AbstractLet $G$ be a locally compact group, $A$ a continuous trace $C^*$-algebra, and $\alpha$ a pointwise unitary action of $G$ on $A$. It is a result of Olesen and Raeburn that if $A$ is separable and $G$ is second countable, then the crossed product $A\times_\alpha G$ has continuous trace. We present a new and much more elementary proof of this fact. Moreover, we do not even need the separability assumptions made on $A$ and $G$.AMS 2000 Mathematics subject classification: Primary 46L55

Introduction: Typhoid fever is a disease caused by Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi A, B, C. An estimated 200,000 people die each year from about 21.6 million people infected with typhoid fever. This study aims to determine the hematological profile in typhoid fever cases in children under five at Idaman Banjarbaru Hospital. Methods: The research was carried out with a retrospective descriptive approach with a consecutive sampling technique. The research subjects were children under five diagnosed with typhoid fever recorded in the Idaman Banjarbaru Hospital's medical records for July 2018 to January 2019. Results: The sample consisted of 58 patients, 32 boys, and 26 girls. Most patients were found in 12 - <36 months, namely 28 (48.28%) children. Thirty-eight (65.52%) children have a normal weight. The hematological profile showed that 46.55% of the patients had iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Hematocrit levels decreased in 51.72% of patients. Erythrocyte levels in 86.21% of patients were normal. Low MCV, low MCH, IDA were found in 46.55%, 36.21%, 46.55% of patients. Leukopenia was present in 17.24% of children. All patients had normal basophil values. Eosinopenia, band neutropenia, segmented neutropenia, lymphocytosis, monocytosis were found in 69.09%, 90.90%, 56.37%, 58.18%, 58.18% of children, respectively. Thrombocytopenia and thrombocytosis were found in the same percentage, 13.80%. Conclusion: The haematological profile of typhoid fever patients in children under five can have different results depending on each child's body's response to S. typhi and S. paratyphi that enter the body.

We describe a variant of the Cuntz–Krieger relations which applies to graphs with sources, and describe a local convexity condition which characterizes the higher-rank graphs that admit a non-trivial Cuntz–Krieger family. We then prove versions of the uniqueness theorems and classifications of ideals for the $C^*$-algebras generated by Cuntz–Krieger families.AMS 2000 Mathematics subject classification: Primary 46L05

Long time considered in Niger as a ruderal but also a weed of crops, Senna obtusifolia is now a useful species, deliberately kept in fields during the rainy season. It is used in animal feed and even more in human food, and has generated substantial income for vulnerable populations, especially in rural areas. The present study conducted on the experimental plot of the Faculty of Agronomy of the Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey aimed to study the possibilities of growing Senna obtusifolia during the dry period of the year. The experimental device was used composed of 16 plots of 6 m2 including 8 exploited and 8 others not exploited as controls. The seeds used were observed at the end of September 2020. Seedling emergence was observed from the 4th day after sowing (75%). It was continued until 8 days when all viable seeds germinated (96%). The highest plant height was recorded at the level of the control plots with the spacing of 30 cm (46.55 ± 7.16 cm) followed by the control plots with the spacing of 20 cm (42.75 ± 4. 68cm). In these plots, the plants of S. obtusifolia had reached senescence before those of the exploited plots. The flowering rates of the plants in the exploited plots (72.00±6 and 68.00±7) were higher than those of the plots that were not exploited (48.00±4 and 50.00± 5). At each harvest, foliar production was significantly different between the exploited plots. The total production was 1304.20 and 745.70 kg/ha respectively for the 20 cm and 30 cm spacing plots

AbstractComplete positivity of ‘atomically extensible’ bounded linear operators between $C^*$-algebras is characterized in terms of positivity of a bilinear form on certain finite-rank operators. In the case of an elementary operator on a $C^*$-algebra, the approach leads us to characterize k-positivity of the operator in terms of positivity of a quadratic form on a subset of the dual space of the algebra and in terms of a certain inequality involving factorial states of finite type I.As an application we characterize those $C^*$-algebras where every k-positive elementary operator on the algebra is completely positive. They are either k-subhomogeneous or k-subhomogeneous by antiliminal. We also give a dual approach to the metric operator space introduced by Arveson.AMS 2000 Mathematics subject classification: Primary 46L05. Secondary 47B47; 47B65

Computer simulation of the operator/system interface is a useful tool for supporting system software design. Simulation is also a flexible and cost effective method for applying human engineering analysis techniques as required by MIL-H-46855 (Human Engineering Requirements for Military Systems, Equipment and Facilities). This paper describes the integrated methodology used to model the operator/computer interaction for a newly developed military system. The operator/computer interface was potentially complex since the operators were required to control several sensors as well as communicate intelligence information within specified time constraints. In order to focus the design process and optimize the operator/computer interface, a computer simulation using the Micro SAINT software package was performed. This simulation provided a dynamic and integrated approach for performing subsequent design trade offs and developing software interface specifications and requirements.

Abstract Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) such as HER2 ADC Enhertu and TROP2 ADC Trodelvy have been proved to be the promising therapeutic agents in portion of cancer diseases. However, there are still numerous patients refractory to the therapy, indicating that the efficacy of ADCs may need to be further optimized. Here, we report that the excessive cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) can serve as a fibrotic barrier, to the detriment of anti-tumor effects from ADCs by alleviating their tissue penetration. Mechanistically, the cancer cells can transform the normal fibrotic cells into CAFs which are featured by the hyperactivated focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signaling. The fast-growing CAFs would decrease the tumor uptake of the big molecules, conferring drug resistance of ADCs to the cancer cells. Targeting FAK with a small molecule inhibitor IN10018 is capable to reduce CAFs associated tumor barrier, elevating the tissue penetration of different types of ADCs regardless their respective targets. The combination regimen comprising IN10018 and the ADCs targeting either HER2 or TROP2 outperformed each monotherapy with respect to antitumor outcomes in different animal experiments. The plant Plumbago Zeylanica is known for its traditional medicinal use because of its wide phytochemical constituency. On same basis its screening for anti-microbial and anti-arthritis activity was carried out. The results showed that the stem of Plumbago Zeylanica could be used as best remedy against bacterial and fungal originated diseases. Among plant extracts, chloroform extract showed highest rate of inhibition against all the concerned bacterial strains followed by petroleum ether extract. The water extract did not show much response as an antimicrobial agent. Also the antifungal activity was observed for all the extracts, but ethanolic extract showed more inhibition potential followed by petroleum ether extract. The results of anti-arthritis activity shows, lowest IC50 (46.55) value for water extract, hence high inhibition potential, followed by ethanolic extract (IC50) 48.50. Over all the plant showed good response as biomedicine against microbial originated diseases and against arthritis.

Fifty-eight ornamental fish species belonging to five orders, 13 families and 36 genera occur in Himachal Pradesh. The dominant family is Cyprinidae (46.55%) followed by Nemacheilidae (15.51%); Sisoridae, Poeciliidae, Osphronemidae (9.89%); Cobitidae (5.17%); Amblycipitidae, Ambassidae, Badidae, Gobiidae, Helostomatidae, Cichlidae and Characidae (1.72%). Of the 58 species, 27.58% are exotic and have been mainly imported for aquarium keeping. The exotic species are being introduced in the region without any regulation, subsequently turning invasive and threatening the indigenous fauna. Thus, there is a need for developing scientific guidelines and regulatory mechanisms for importing exotic aquarium fishes. On the other hand, the breeding and culture of indigenous fishes can be a profitable venture, provided there is an availability of a standardized breeding technology. Such an enterprise will go a long way in conservation of native fishes, improving livelihoods as well as raising the socio-economic status of local communities.

The UK Chinese are known for their underutilisation of western healthcare services. Reasons for this underutilisation are complex. The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) is a widely used model of social cognition, which in the present study is being applied to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) utilisation and satisfaction with TCM services. Two hundred and seventy-two UK Chinese aged between 15 and 91 years (M=46.55; SD = 18.53) enrolled in the study. TCM utilisation was associated with gender, age, cultural attachment, and subjective norms. TCM users were more likely to be female and older and have a strong attachment to Chinese culture, and be influenced by the views of important others. Findings highlight the potential of the TPB in exploring TCM utilisation, whilst also throwing light on other factors influential in the use of TCM and satisfaction with TCM service provision among Chinese in the UK.

Background In May 2022, a case of monkeypox (currently known as “mpox”) with no history of overseas travel was reported in the United Kingdom, followed by reports of infections reported in Europe, the United States, and other countries worldwide. Due to the significant overlap in immune responses among viruses of the genus Orthopoxvirus (including smallpox virus, mpox virus, and vaccinia virus), it is believed that cross-immunity can be achieved by administering the smallpox virus vaccine. In Japan, a smallpox vaccine (LC16m8 strain vaccine) has been approved; however, there was no regulatory approval for the mpox vaccine during the design of this study. Although it is believed that individuals exposed to the mpox virus may receive smallpox vaccination as mpox prophylaxis, the existing evidence is not clear. Objective The primary objective was to evaluate the efficacy of the LC16m8 strain vaccine, approved for smallpox in Japan, for postexposure prophylaxis against mpox when administered to close contacts of individuals with mpox. The secondary objective was to investigate the safety of the vaccine for postexposure prophylaxis against mpox. Methods The study aimed to enroll 100 vaccinated participants who had been identified as close contacts of individuals with mpox. Consent was obtained, and the participants are inoculated with the vaccine. Daily recordings of symptoms (body temperature, headache, rash, and side effects) were made until day 21 and then again on day 28. Furthermore, additional evaluations of adverse events were performed by the investigators on days 7, 14, 21, and 28. Considering that the maximum incubation period for mpox is 21 days, the primary end point is the presence or absence of the disease 21 days after close contact. The primary analysis focused on cases within 4 days of intense contact as it has been reported that vaccination within this timeframe can reduce the incidence of the disease. Results The first trial participant was enrolled on July 28, 2022, and the research period concluded in March 2023. The study results will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Conclusions This study allowed us to investigate the efficacy and safety of the LC16m8 strain vaccine in postexposure prophylaxis against mpox. Abstract Background Social media data may augment understanding of the disease and treatment experiences and quality of life of youth with chronic medical conditions. Little is known about the willingness to share social media data for health research among youth with chronic medical conditions and the differences in health status between sharing and nonsharing youth with chronic medical conditions. Objective We aimed to evaluate the associations between patient-reported measures of disease symptoms and functioning and the willingness to share social media data. Methods Between February 2018 and August 2019, during routine clinic visits, survey data about social media use and the willingness to share social media data (dependent variable) were collected from adolescents in a national rheumatic disease registry. Survey data were analyzed with patient-reported measures of disease symptoms and functioning and a clinical measure of disease activity, which were collected through a parent study. We used descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression to compare patient-reported outcomes between youth with chronic medical conditions who opted to share social media data and those who did not opt to share such data. Results Among 112 youths, (age: mean 16.1, SD 1.6 y; female: n=72, 64.3%), 83 (74.1%) agreed to share social media data. Female participants were more likely to share (P=.04). In all, 49 (43.8%) and 28 (25%) participants viewed and posted about rheumatic disease, respectively. Compared to nonsharers, sharers reported lower mobility (T-score: mean 49.0, SD 9.4 vs mean 53.9, SD 8.9; P=.02) and more pain interference (T-score: mean 45.7, SD 8.8 vs mean 40.4, SD 8.0; P=.005), fatigue (T-score: mean 49.1, SD 11.0 vs mean 39.7, SD 9.7; P<.001), depression (T-score: mean 48.1, SD 8.9 vs mean 42.2, SD 8.4; P=.003), and anxiety (T-score: mean 45.2, SD 9.3 vs mean 38.5, SD 7.0; P<.001). In regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, study site, and Physician Global Assessment score, each 1-unit increase in symptoms was associated with greater odds of willingness to share social media data, for measures of pain interference (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR] 1.07, 95% CI 1.001-1.14), fatigue (AOR 1.08, 95% CI 1.03-1.13), depression (AOR 1.07, 95% CI 1.01-1.13), and anxiety (AOR 1.10, 95% CI 1.03-1.18). Conclusions High percentages of youth with rheumatic diseases used and were willing to share their social media data for research. Sharers reported worse symptoms and functioning compared to those of nonsharers. Social media may offer a potent information source and engagement pathway for youth with rheumatic diseases, but differences between sharing and nonsharing youth merit consideration when designing studies and evaluating social media–derived findings.

Determining the extent of adoption of modern variety potato production technologies by the potato growers was the main focus of the study. The study was conducted in the Rajshahi district. Out of 1547 potato growers, 232 respondents were randomly selected as a sample for data collection from twenty villages. A pre-tested interview schedule was used to collect data from the respondents during July 2010 to February 2011. For measuring the adoption of modern variety potato production technologies by the potato growers, 11 technologies on modern potato production were considered. Majority (46.55%) of the growers had medium adoption compared to high (29.74%) and low (23.71%) adoption. Among the extent of adoption of eleven selected technologies recommended ‘irrigation’ was at top highest ranking as indicated by the adoption index where as plant spacing was bottom lowest. The adoption variations in different technologies will not be improved unless effective steps are taken to increase growers’ exposure to get benefits of using such technologies as per recommendations.

We employ results from KK-theory, along with quasidiagonality techniques, to obtain wide-ranging classification results for nuclear C*-algebras. Using a new realization of the Cuntz picture of the Kasparov groups we show that two morphisms inducing equal KK-elements are approximately stably unitarily equivalent. Using K-theory with coefficients to associate a partial KK-element to an approximate morphism, our result is generalized to cover such maps. Conversely, we study the problem of lifting a (positive) partial KK-element to an approximate morphism. These results are employed to obtain classification results for certain classes of quasidiagonal C*-algebras introduced by H. Lin, and to reprove the classification of purely infinite simple nuclear C*-algebras of Kirchberg and Phillips. It is our hope that this work can be the starting point of a unified approach to the classification of nuclear C*-algebras.2000 Mathematical Subject Classification: primary 46L35; secondary 19K14, 19K35, 46L80.

Abstract Introduction Lymphoid aggregates are commonly associated with better prognosis and enhanced response to immune modulators in several cancers. Considering the immune-privileged status of the eye we sought to investigate the immune, genomic and prognostic significance of 12-chemokine TLS gene signature in UM patients. Methods A previously validated 12-chemokine gene signature established in cutaneous melanoma was used (CCL2-5, CCL8, CCL18, CCL19, CCL21, CXCL9-11, CXCL13). Clinical, genomic and transcriptomic data was retrieved from The Cancer Genomic Atlas UM cohort (n = 80) and the GSE22138 dataset (n = 63) from the gene expression omnibus. The signature was constructed using principal component (PC) analyses based on the first PC1. Patients with a PC1 score > +4 or < -4 were considered gene expression profile (GEP) high and low, respectively. The CIBERSORT algorithm was used to estimate the immune composition in tumor tissue. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) was conducted using the Hallmarks gene sets. A cytotoxic T cell (CTL) score was calculated based on the coordinate expression of CD8A, CD8B, GZMA, GZMB and PRF1. Results The 12-chemokine score was higher among epithelioid vs. spindle cell or mixed histology (mean: 7.84 vs -4.91 vs 1.22, p = 0.038) and there were no differences across different tumor sites or stages. GEP low patients had significantly better overall survival (HR: 0.10, 95% CI: 0.03-0.36, p < 0.001) and disease-free survival (HR: 0.23, 95% CI: 0.06-0.88, p = 0.031) compared to GEP high. Metastasis-free survival was not significantly different in the second cohort (0.47, 95% CI: 0.16-1.42, p = 0.182). The EIF1AX and SF3B1 driver mutations were significantly more frequent among GEP low (22.5% and 35%) compared to GEP high patients (3.7% and 7.4%). Tumor mutational burden and other driver mutations (BAP1, GNA11, GNAQ) were similar between both groups. GSEA revealed significant enrichment of inflammatory response (IFN-α/γ, TNF-α signalling via NF-κB, IL2-STAT5, IL6-JAK-STAT3 signalling), Epithelial Mesenchymal Transition (EMT), reactive oxygen species, and angiogenesis pathways in GEP high patients. GEP low patients had lower CTL scores compared to GEP high patients (31.3 vs 11.4, p < 0.001). M1 macrophages, CD8+ and regulatory T cells were enriched in GEP high patients whereas CD4+ memory T cells and activated dendritic cells were more prevalent in GEP low patients. Conclusion Uveal melanoma patients with a high GEP score had inferior survival and were enriched for inflammatory, angiogenic, and EMT pathways, while patients with a low GEP score were more likely to express prognostically favourable driver mutations (EIF1AX, SF3B1). Our results suggest a variable prognostic role of lymphoid aggregates in the setting of UM compared to other solid tumors, warranting further investigation for their differential underlying mechanisms. Introduction. The growing amount of stored waste from TPPs has a negative impact on the environmental and economic situation in Russia. The content of ash dumps leads to pollution of nearby areas and increase in energy prices. To solve this problem, it is proposed to use TPP waste as a component of solutions. Materials and methods. The equipment on which the experiment was performed is listed. For the test of compressive strength, the press TP-1-350 Universal was used. For the test of flexural strength, MII-100 machine was used. Specific surface area of TPP waste was determined on PSKh-12 device. The samples gained the strength in the chamber of normal hardening. The chemical composition of TPP waste was determined by the X-ray fluorescent method. Results. The experimental data on the strength of specimens with the replacement of part of the cement by waste thermal power plants of different genesis are presented. The part of the samples were cured under normal conditions, and part was subjected to heat and humidity treatment. Specific cement consumption per unit of compressive and flexural strength was calculated. Compressive strength of mortars with replacement of 20% of cement by Kuznetsky TPP ash makes it possible to obtain samples with strength by 8% less than the control sample under normal curing conditions. The use of acid ash from Omsk TPP and Kuznetsky TPP under heat and moisture treatment makes it possible to obtain the samples with compressive strength higher than the control sample up to 13%. The introduction of 30 % of the basic ash from Novosibirsk TPP instead of cement allows to obtain samples with compressive strength up to 46,55 MPa. The calculation of specific consumption of cement per unit strength showed that the use of the proposed compositions is more cost-effective than the control ashless sample up to 30%. Discussion and conclusions. It has been proved that replacement of up to 30% of cement by TPP wastes makes it possible to obtain mortars with strength not lower than that of the control cement sample. Depending on curing conditions and the type of used TPP waste it is possible to receive samples with compressive strength up to 46,55 MPa and bending strength up to 9,31 MPa. It was found that the use of heat and moisture treatment for the samples using basic ash does not give an increase in strength, compared to acidic ash.
