The inverse degree r(G) of a finite graph G = (V,E) is defined as r(G) = ?v?V 1/d(v), where d(v) is the degree of vertex v. In Discrete Math. 310 (2010), 940-946, Mukwembi posed the following conjecture: Let G be a connected chemical graph with diameter diam(G) and inverse degree r(G). Then diam(G) ? 12/5 r(G) + O(1). In this paper, we settle the conjecture affirmatively.

Методом ионно-лучевого распыления двух мишеней (одна из сплава CoFeB, вторая из TiO2) на вращающуюся ситалловую подложку получена серия образцов с градиентом состава и толщины композита (CoFeB)x(TiO2)1–x. На дифрактограммах aморфных композитов обнаружено гало, соответствующее среднему межатомному расстоянию, близкому по величине к значениям межплоскостных расстояний самых интенсивных дифракционных линий в сплавах CoFe. Методом ИК-спектроскопии проведена идентификация мод, соответствующих межатомным связям в аморфных композитах (CoFeB)x(TiO2)1–x различного состава. Установлено наличие связей с кислородом всех элементов композита Fe–O, Co–O, Ti–O, B-O, а также образование промежуточных химических связей Ti–O–B, Ti–O–Co между атомами диэлектрической и металлической компонент композита. На основе полученных данных предложена модель аморфных композитов (Co45Fe45B10)x(TiO2)1–x, в которой металлические частицы представляются в виде ядра из металлических кластеров CoFe с оболочкой из оксидов и боридов/оксиборидов d-металлов, распределенных в диэлектрической матрице диоксида титана TiO2–х.

ObjectivesOptimum transfusion trigger for adults undergoing cancer surgery is uncertain. Published guidelines recommend restrictive transfusion strategies in hospitalised adults. We aimed to measure the red cell transfusion rate and haemoglobin trigger in patients undergoing cancer surgery and how closely practice reflected published guidelines.DesignRetrospective cohort study.SettingSingle tertiary centre.ParticipantsAdult patients undergoing surgery for upper gastrointestinal or liver malignancy.ExposurePostguideline change (2015–2017) versus preguideline change (2011–2012).Outcome measuresPrimary: transfusion rate, secondary: transfusion trigger. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess factors and adjust for confounders affecting our outcome measures.Results1578 surgical records were identified for 1520 patients. 946/1530 (62%) patients had preoperative anaemia. The transfusion rate decreased from 23% in 2011–2012 to 14% in 2015–2017. This change remained significant after adjusting for other variables associated with transfusion rates. Mean pretransfusion haemoglobin in those who were transfused was 78±13 g/L in 2011–2012 and 80±15 g/L in 2015–2017. This change in haemoglobin transfusion triggers was not significant.ConclusionTransfusion rate has decreased over the study period in patients undergoing surgery for malignancy and is consistent with a restrictive transfusion strategy.

AbstractLet G be a non-abelian finite simple group. In addition, let $$\Delta _G$$ Δ G be the intersection graph of G, whose vertices are the proper non-trivial subgroups of G, with distinct subgroups joined by an edge if and only if they intersect non-trivially. We prove that the diameter of $$\Delta _G$$ Δ G has a tight upper bound of 5, thereby resolving a question posed by Shen (Czechoslov Math J 60(4):945–950, 2010). Furthermore, a diameter of 5 is achieved only by the baby monster group and certain unitary groups of odd prime dimension.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. IRGM1 is an important protein in the innate immune response against intracellular pathogens by regulating autophagy. Polymorphisms in the IRGM genes are known to influence expression levels and may be associated with outcome of infections. This case-control study was done on 150 patients with PTB and 150 healthy subjects to determine whether the IRGM polymorphisms at positions −1208 A/G (rs4958842), −1161 C/T (rs4958843), and −947 C/T (rs4958846) were associated with PTB. The polymorphisms were determined using tetra-amplification refractory mutation system-PCR (T-ARMS-PCR). The results showed that the IRGM −1161 C/T and −947 C/T polymorphisms were associated with decreased susceptibility to PTB (OR = 0.06, 95% CI = 0.03–0.13,P < 0.001 and OR = 0.27; 95% CI = 0.013–0.55,P < 0.001, resp.). No significant difference was found among the groups regarding −1208 A/G polymorphism. In conclusion we found that the IRGM −1161 C/T and −947 C/T polymorphisms but not −1208 A/G polymorphism provide relative protection against PTB in a sample of Iranian population.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the actions offered in the Teacher Development Program from the perceptions of the teachers of the medical course of a public university that has been working with active teaching and learning methods since 2002. After each action of the program, an evaluation instrument was applied to the participants, and the answers were submitted to content analysis and then organized into three categories: infrastructure and logistics, the teaching-learning strategies and the developed content. Teachers highlight the importance of organization and planning of activities and the environment in which these actions are developed; they emphasize the importance of using teaching–learning strategies that allow greater re?ection on own practice and the integration of theory and practice. They point out that the themes proposed were timely and necessary, they recognize the importance of being in development, they talk about the motivation from the experiences lived. It is concluded that the Teacher Development is a process through which the teacher is in transformation, through a conscious and constant reflection of his own practice. This process can be promoted by institutional investments and by the regulatory mechanisms of institutions, constituted of an evaluation referenced in objective indicators, consistent with the goals to be achieved. In this sense, it is necessary to invest in permanent education, because long-term programs allow the development of the teacher´s and the institution´s needs.ResumoO objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as ações oferecidas em um Programa de Desenvolvimento Docente a partir da percepção dos professores do curso de medicina de uma universidade pública que utiliza métodos ativos de ensino-aprendizagem desde 2002. Após cada ação do programa, um instrumento de avaliação foi aplicado aos participantes, e respostas foram submetidas à análise do conteúdo e em seguida foram organizadas em três categorias: infraestrutura e logística, estratégias de ensino-aprendizagem utilizadas, e conteúdo desenvolvido. Os professores destacam a importância da organização e planejamento das atividades e do ambiente em que essas ações se desenvolveram; Enfatizam a importância de utilizar estratégias de ensino-aprendizagem que possibilitem maior reflexão sobre a própria prática e a integração da teoria e a prática. Apontam que os temas propostos foram oportunos e necessários, reconhecem a importância de estarem em desenvolvimento, falam sobre a motivação a partir das experiências vivenciadas. Conclui-se que o Desenvolvimento Docente é um processo pelo qual o professor está em transformação, por meio de uma re?exão consciente e constante de sua própria prática. Esse processo pode ser promovido pelos investimentos institucionais e pelos mecanismos reguladores das instituições constituídos por uma avaliação referenciada em indicadores objetivos, coerentes com as metas a serem alcançadas. Abstract Background Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are becoming more frequently isolated in microbiology laboratories. There is no standardized diagnosis, treatment, and/or monitoring of patients with NTM disease. We described the experience of the Panama National Mycobacterial Laboratory in isolating NTM in patients suspected to have active tuberculosis in Panama. Methods Data registries of the National TB Program Laboratory of Panama between 2012 and 2015 were reviewed. Demographic information, relevant history, sample source, and isolate identified for each specimen obtained at the time of specimen submission was extracted. Identification of mycobacterial species were made using culture and PCR. Data were exported to an Excel workbook and a descriptive analysis was performed using STATA. Results A total of 4,545 samples were received during this period. Of these, 288 (6.3%) were not processed. From the remaining 4,257 samples, 705 (16.5%) were negative, 2,783 (65.3%) were positive for M. tuberculosis, and 769 (18%) were confirmed NTM. NTM species identification was achieved in 715 (93%) using PCR. Median age was 55 years (0 – 92); 49.4% were male. The most frequent NTM isolate was M. avium complex in 172 (22.3%) samples, followed by M. fortuitum in 131 (17%). M. chelonae was isolated in 98 (12.7%) samples, M. gordonae in 50 (6.5%), M. scrofulaceum in 20 (2.6%), and M. triviale in 16 (2.0%). NTM isolation steadily rose over the study period with 490 (63.7%) of the samples being from 2015 and 465 (94.5%) of these typified by PCR. Specimens mainly originated from the Panama metropolitan area (88.2%) and were mostly sputum samples (70.8%). Conclusion Nontuberculous mycobacteria represented an important proportion of isolates among TB suspects in Panama. The implementation of more sensitive diagnostic techniques is increasing the recovery of NTM. Results of two bottom grab surveys in the Olyutorsky Bay of the Bering Sea conducted in 1985 (37 stations with 60 samples in the depth range of 20–200 m) and 2012 (26 stations with 48 samples at the depths of 51–270 m) are compared. Average biomass of macrozoobenthos was rather stable: 561.1 ± 95.2 g/m2 in 1985 and 581.3 ± 94.5 g/m2 in 2012. Sea urchins, bivalves and polychaetes dominated by biomass in 1985 (84.7 % of the total biomass for these 3 groups), but sipunculids appeared in the list of the dominant taxonomic groups in 2012 when 91.3 % of the total biomass consisted of the top 4 groups. The main communities of macrozoobenthos practically retained their location and quantitative parameters. There is concluded that composition, distribution and abundance of macrozoobenthos in the Olyutorsky Bay were stable over a quarter of century.

The allotropes composed of close-packed (CP) structures that differ only in the stacking order in the system are called the CP polytypes [1]. The CP polytype is also considered one of the physical systems realizing the Kepler conjecture [2]. Since the significant changes in physical properties due to the intentional polytype formation have been reported in various fields of metallic and semiconductive systems [3-5], the material engineering demand for polytype phase control is diverse. The acquisition and deepening of scientific knowledge for the polytype phase control is therefore promising to lead to the creation of new functional materials. However, the scientific control of the polytype stacking order is still incomplete in the field of practical materials engineering. This is because the polytype control technology has many uncertainties since the formation mechanism of polytype is physically unsolved yet. Predicting polytype phase stability for a material has also been a long-standing issue in condensed matter physics and/or materials science. This situation stems from the fact that the atomistic interactions on polytype energetics might be surprisingly quite complex and delicate despite the simplicity of their geometrical structure. In the previous paper, we have presented an analytical theory on the total energetics for the CP polytypes based on the geometrical analysis for the correlation between interlayer interactions and interatomic ones in CP polytypes [6]. Our theoretical studies have shown that the long-range nature of interatomic interactions is an important factor for reproducing the static polytype energetics [6,7]. Based on our theory submitted [6], we have tried to construct an EAM (Embedded Atom Method) [8] type interatomic model for metallic La reproducing the theoretical polytype energetics. Our primary motivation for the present study is to grasp why long periodic polytype structures other than 2H and 3C ones appear as the stable phase under the crystal growth for the specific elemental systems. Therefore, we aim to develop the interatomic potential to reproduce the theoretical polytype energetics and to adopt it to the dynamical simulations for the long-periodic polytypes systems. The ground state for La is the 4H structure which is the simplest long-periodic polytype and La can exist in both 4H phase and the 3C phase under 583K [9]. Thus, it is possible to investigate the essential factors determining the polytype selection rule through the atomistic dynamics for metallic La. From our research so far, we have succeeded in constructing an EAM-type potential that mimics the energetics of metallic La with the 4H as the ground structure [10]. The following three procedures are found to be essentially important for deriving an interatomic interaction model with the 4H structure as the ground state; (i) The cutoff radius should be set to have a relatively longer distance (three or more interlayer distances in the 4H stacking structure). (ii) The equations of state (EOS) for the energetics of 2H, 3C, and 4H structures need to be reproduced as accurately as possible. (iii) The adiabatic potential along important transition paths between crystal structures such as the Bain path for the bcc-fcc transition must be exactly considered [11]. These procedures have made the interaction model describable for not only the energetics but also the lattice dynamics such as dynamical instability, which is known to be generally significant for the phase transition phenomena [11, 12]. Работа посвящена обобщению результатов исследования анодирования алюминида титана (γ-TiAl) во фторсодержащих электролитах. Установлены оптимальные условия анодирования, приводящие к формированию самоорганизованных нанопористых анодных оксидных пленок (АОП) на поверхности образцов, сплава Ti-40 wt. % Al. Показано, что при оптимальных условиях образуются рентгеноаморфные оксидные пленки гетерогенного состава (Al2O3:TiO2 @ 1:1) с размерами пор в диапазоне от 40 до 80 nm. Полученные результаты свидетельствуют о перспективности применения анодного наноструктурирования порошков Ti-40 wt. % Al для получения фотокаталитически активных материалов с расширенным до видимого света спектральным диапазоном поглощения.

We demonstrate a simple dip-coating method of covering standard AFM tips with nanodiamonds containing color centers. AbstractThe present study was undertaken to analyse the genetic variation in coding sequences, splicing sites and regulatory sequences of FABP4, PPARγ and SCD genes in five breeds of sheep raised in Poland with different purposes: meat (Suffolk, Ile de France), dairy/prolific (Olkuska sheep, Kołuda) and primitive breeds (Polish Mountain Sheep). To identify genetic variability HRM-PCR, sequencing and PCR-RFLP method were used. Determining the genetic structure of the mentioned genes revealed six SNPs: FABP4 – c.73 + 13A>T and c.348 + 85G>A, PPARγ – c.391 – 66C>T (c.481 – 66C>T) and c.529 + 27G>C (c.619 + 27G>C), SCD – c.*945G>A and c.*1116A>G. For the c.*1116A>G SNP, a potential association with specific sheep body type and breeding purpose was found. In turn, the substitution c.*945G>A located in the regulatory region of the 3'-UTR of the Ovis aries SCD gene was identified for the first time. Based on the relationship demonstrated between sheep body constitution and productive type (dairy, meat) and the polymorphism of the SCD gene, further research is needed. The correlation between c.*1116A>G polymorphism and growth rate, slaughter and carcass value as well as meat quality of lambs needs to be studied in more detail. Such studies may lead to more effective selection processes in sheep breeding in the future.

Abstract The protective effect of higher platelet count at diagnosis of Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) was reported in some papers (Carobbio A. 2011, Palandri F. 2012, Montanaro M., 2014). As at our knowledge, there is no study specifically addressing this point; in this retrospective analysis we have examined 1201 ET patients (pts) followed in 11 Hematological centers of our region from 1/1978 to 12/2010. The diagnosis of ET was made with PVSG, WHO 2001 and WHO 2008 criteria, respectively, according to the period of 1st observation. The main features of our cohort were as follows: median age 62,9 yrs (19-96), male/female 435/766 (36.2%/63.8%), median WBC count 8,8 x 106/L (1.2-57.7), median Hb level 14.0 g/dl (6.0-20.5), median platelet count 813 x 106/L (457-3582), JAK-2V617F mutation in 498/834 performed pts (59,7 %) with a median allele burden of 19.6% (0.2-99.9%), spleen enlargement in 226 pts (18.7%), previous thrombosis in 17.9% of pts (arterial 14.1%, venous 3.8%). The median follow-up of the entire cohort was 7.75 yrs. Thrombosis-free survival curves were plotted according to Kaplan-Meier method and independent risk factors were identified with the Cox proportional-hazards method. At the multivariate analysis, negative prognostic factors for TFS resulted: previous thrombotic events (p= 0.012), age ≥60 yrs (p= 0.008) and spleen enlargement (p= 0.039): on the contrary, platelet count ≥ 944.109/L resulted a protective factor for TFS [p= 0.031 with an HR 0,57 (C.I. 95% 0,35-0,95)]. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses based on thrombotic events during follow-up were used to identify the baseline platelet count of 944 x 109/L as the best threshold for predicting thrombotic events. Thrombotic events according to this cutoff were 40/384 (10.3%) in pts with platelet count ≥ 944 x 109/L and 109/817 (13.3%) in pts with platelet count < 944 x 109/L. The sites of thrombosis are reported in the table. A comparison of the main features in these two populations showed that pts with PLT count < 944 x 109/L were older (median age 60.4 yrs vs 57.1 yrs, p= 0.016), had a lower median WBC count (8.8 x 109/L vs 10.6 x 109/L, p< 0.0001), an higher median Hb level (14.1 g/dL vs 13.6 g/dL, p< 0.0001) and an higher rate of JAK-2V617F mutation (67.2% vs 41.6%, p< 0.0001); no differences were observed between the two groups as to thrombotic events before diagnosis, spleen enlargement and cardiovascular risk factor (p=NS). As to the treatment, both groups resulted equally treated with anti-aggregant agents (84,6% vs 87,4%, p= 0,76) while in pts with platelet count <944 x 109/L the oral anticoagulants (7.1% vs. 3.1%, p= 0.01) were more often used. Pts with higher platelet count were more frequently treated with cyto-reductive drugs (90,4 % vs 76,4 %, p< 0.0001). No significant difference resulted for Hydroxyurea (70,8 % vs 64,3%, p= 0,34) and Interferon ( 11,7% vs 6,9%, p= 0,07); on the contrary, more pts with higher platelet count were treated with anagrelide (10.7% vs 5.0%, p= 0.001) and alkylating agents (8.9% vs 5.1%, p= 0.03). In conclusion, our retrospective analysis confirmed the protective role for thrombosis of an higher platelet count at diagnosis. Pts with platelet count ≥ 944 x 109/L were more frequently treated with cyto-reductive drugs and this could possibly explain the better TFS, even if the platelet count closer to the occurrence of a thrombotic event resulted near the normal values in both groups. On the other hand, the higher rate of JAK-2V617F mutation in the group of pts with a baseline lower platelet count could be responsible of this counterintuitive finding: it is worth of note, however, that in our series the JAK-2V617F mutation did not result a significant factor for TFS. Abstract Introduction:Febrile neutropenia (FN) is a serious side effect of myelosuppressive chemotherapy that often requires immediate hospitalization. FN is associated with lengthy hospital stays, increased mortality, and high costs. Prophylaxis with granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (G-CSFs) such as pegfilgrastim can reduce risk of FN. Per indication, pegfilgrastim should not be administered between 14 days before and 24 hours after cytotoxic chemotherapy. In most clinical trials, G-CSF has been administered the day following chemotherapy, and administration 1-3 days after chemotherapy may result in a lower risk of infection than same-day administration (Burris et al, J Oncol Pract, 2010; Cheng et al, Anticancer Drugs, 2014; Weycker et al, J Clin Oncol, 2015 [abst e17697]). Thus, both NCCN and ASCO recommend pegfilgrastim be given 1-3 days after chemotherapy when possible. A recent retrospective analysis of US health care claims databases showed that same-day pegfilgrastim was used in 13% of cycles (Weycker et al, Blood, 2014). Here we compare the costs of same- vs next-day use of pegfilgrastim (Neulasta®) from a US payer perspective. Methods: We used a published health economic model on the budget impact of G-CSFs to US payers (Taylor et al, Am J Pharm Benefits, 2012) to estimate differences in per-patient costs associated with same- vs next-day pegfilgrastim use among adult patients with early-stage breast cancer (ESBC) or NHL treated with 1 course (6 cycles) of myelosuppressive chemotherapy (TAC for ESBC; R-CHOP for NHL). Data from 2 phase 2 trials (Burris 2010) and 2 large retrospective studies (Weycker 2015; Cheng 2014) identified in a literature search for studies of FN risk with same- vs next-day use of pegfilgrastim in patients with ESBC or NHL were used to derive plausible ranges of estimated cost differences. Ranges were based on variability in the difference of FN risk between groups as reported in or estimated from these studies. The model assumed patients received prophylactic pegfilgrastim and 1 complete blood cell (CBC) count in each chemotherapy cycle. Percentage of FN events requiring hospitalization and costs associated with pegfilgrastim acquisition, administration, lab work, and FN treatment were derived from published literature and public data sources consistent with Taylor 2012. Chemotherapy costs were assumed to be independent of same- vs next-day pegfilgrastim use and were excluded. All costs are presented in 2015 US dollars. Results: Costs for ESBC were $944 to $6,920 greater per patient per course of chemotherapy with same- vs next-day use of pegfilgrastim. Costs for NHL were $629 to $3,775 greater per patient per course of chemotherapy with same- vs next-day use of pegfilgrastim. See table. Conclusions: This analysis suggests that adherence to next-day use of pegfilgrastim is associated with lower costs than same-day use. Cost differences appear to be driven by FN risk and FN treatment, indicating that these results can be reasonably extrapolated to other regimens with an intermediate/high risk of FN. Table. Regulatory region of milk protein alpha S1-casein (αS1-CN) gene was sequenced, characterized, and analyzed to detect variations among 13 Indian cattle (Bos indicus) breeds. Comparative analysis of 1,587 bp region comprising promoter (1,418 bp), exon-I (53 bp), and partial intron-I (116 bp) revealed 35 nucleotide substitutions (32 within promoter region, 1 in exon-I, and 2 in partial intron-I region) and 4 Indels. Within promoter, 15 variations at positions −1399 (A > G), −1288 (G > A), −1259 (T > C), −1158 (T > C), −1016 (A > T), −941 (T > G), −778 (C > T), −610 (G > A), −536 (A > G), −521 (A > G), −330 (A > C), −214 (A > G), −205 (A > T), −206 (C > A), and −175 (A > G) were located within the potential transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs), namely, NF-κE1/c-Myc, GATA-1, GATA-1/NF-E, Oct-1/POU3F2, MEF-2/YY1, GATA-1, AP-1, POU1F1a/GR, TMF, GAL4, YY1/Oct-1, HNF-1, GRalpha/AR, GRalpha/AR, and AP-1, respectively. Seventy-four percent (26/35) of the observed SNPs were novel to Indian cattle and 11 of these novel SNPs were located within one or more TFBSs. Resumen: El objetivo de la presente investigación es explorar la estructura y el contenido de una red de usuarios de abuso sexual basado en imágenes en Twitter. Para ello se analizaron los perfiles de Twitter que contienen la palabra "Quemón o “Nudes” utilizando análisis de redes, técnicas de procesamiento natural del lenguaje. Entre 2017 y 2018 hubo una comunidad de abuso sexual basado en imágenes en Twitter. Al menos 329 usuarios se dedicaron y se auto describieron como cuentas sexualmente explícitas, vengativas, y en donde contenido sexual no consensual podía ser compartido de forma anónima. Ya con seguidores, la red comprende a más de 130,000 personas. Esta es una estimación conservadora, más cuentas podrían utilizar diferentes palabras clave, no tener ninguna descripción, o formar parte de comunidades privadas. Estos resultados sugieren que los consumidores de contenido de abuso sexual basado en imágenes son los principales responsables de su propagación. Abstract: This study aimed to explore the structure and content of an image-based sexual abuse user network on Twitter. For this purpose, Twitter profiles containing the word “Quemones” or "Nudes" were analyzed using network analysis, natural language processing techniques. Between 2017 and 2018 there was a community of image-based sexual abuse on Twitter. At least 329 users engaged in and self- described themselves as sexually explicit, vindictive accounts, and where nonconsensual sexual content could be shared anonymously. Already with followers, the network comprises more than 130,000 people. This is a conservative estimate; more accounts could use different keywords, have no description, or be part of private communities. The measurements show that despite the relatively high values of indices (Ra, Rf i Rg) not all tested lamps are suitable for use on a photo set, as indicated by the value of TLCI index. We have developed a novel spray gelation-based method to synthesize a new series of magnetically responsive hydrogel nanoparticles for biomedical and drug delivery applications. The method is based on the production of hydrogel nanoparticles from sprayed polymeric microdroplets obtained by an air-jet nebulization process that is immediately followed by gelation in a crosslinking fluid. Oligoguluronate (G-blocks) was prepared through the partial acid hydrolysis of sodium alginate. PEG-grafted chitosan was also synthesized and characterized (FTIR, EA, and DSC). Then, magnetically responsive hydrogel nanoparticles based on alginate and alginate/G-blocks were synthesized via aerosolization followed by either ionotropic gelation or both ionotropic and polyelectrolyte complexation using CaCl2or PEG-g-chitosan/CaCl2as crosslinking agents, respectively. Particle size and dynamic swelling were determined using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and microscopy. Surface morphology of the nanoparticles was examined using SEM. The distribution of magnetic cores within the hydrogels nanoparticles was also examined using TEM. In addition, the iron and calcium contents of the particles were estimated using EDS. Spherical magnetic hydrogel nanoparticles with average particle size of 811 ± 162 to 941 ± 2 nm were obtained. This study showed that the developed method is promising for the manufacture of hydrogel nanoparticles, and it represents a relatively simple and potential low-cost system.

RESUMO Entre os tipos de alface cultivados atualmente, tem-se destacado a alface americana, que visa atender, principalmente, as redes de fast foods. Com o objetivo de avaliar o comportamento produtivo de cultivares de alface americana nas condições do Submédio do Vale do São Francisco, foram conduzidos dois experimentos, em 2013 e 2014, em Petrolina-PE. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso com doze genótipos em 2013 e vinte e dois genótipos em 2014, com três repetições. Foram avaliados produção total e comercial por planta; produtividade total e comercial; circunferência da “cabeça” comercial e comprimento do caule em cada ano de cultivo. Para as cultivares avaliadas nos dois anos, efetuou-se a análise conjunta. Em 2013 a produção e produtividade total apresentaram diferenças significativas entre tratamentos, sobressaindo-se os genótipos Havassu (940 g/planta e 78,3 t/ha), Perovana (922 g/planta e 76,8 t/ha), Laurel (903 g/planta e 75,2 t/ha) e Balsamo (875 g/planta e 72,8 t/ha). Já no cultivo de 2014, a massa fresca e produtividade total variou entre 526 e 816 g/planta e 43,8 e 67,9 t/ha, com melhores respostas produtivas para os genótipos Laurel (816 g/planta e 67,9 t/ha) e Silvana (809 g/planta e 67,4 t/ha), sem contudo diferirem entre si. Pela análise conjunta, pôde-se verificar que todas as características avaliadas foram afetadas significativamente pela interação entre os fatores ano e cultivares. Conclui-se que é viável o cultivo dessa hortaliça na região. As cultivares Ironwood, Havassu, Laurel, Flora, Perovana, Raider Plus, Balsamo e Silvana são as mais indicadas.

The electrochemical behavior of metoprolol (MTP) was studied via experimental and computational approaches. Theoretical calculations were performed at the B3LYP/6-31+G(d)//AM1 level whereas experimental studies were carried out on a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) and glassy carbon electrode (GCE). According to the computational results, both HOMO and LUMO of MTP were located at the phenyl ring. Hence, oxidation and reduction are expected to take place at the phenyl ring. Experimental studies on HMDE were based on reversible reduction at approximately –1.4 V and studies on GCE were based on irreversible oxidation at approximately 0.9 V versus Ag/AgCl (3 mol L−1 KCl) in Britton−Robinson buffer. Voltammetric methods with and without adsorptive stripping modes were developed. Proposed methods were successfully applied to tablet solutions and spiked human serum samples. Results are satisfactory with recovery values between 94.5% and 102.5% and a relative standard deviation lower than 6%.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of pancreatic enzyme substitution (PES) in selected very low birthweight (VLBW) infants with poor postnatal growth despite intensified nutritional support.DesignRetrospective historic cohort study with matched controls.SettingSingle level III neonatal intensive care unit.PatientsInfants with a gestational age at birth <32 weeks and birth weight <1500 g born between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2014 (n=26) who received PES for restricted postnatal growth despite intensified enteral nutritional support in comparison with infants matched for birth weight, birth year, gestational and postnatal age (n=52).InterventionsPES 15–93 mg/g fat with enteral feeds.Main outcome measuresThe difference in SD score (SDS) differences for weight during the 7 days before and after onset of PES and weight gain in g/kg/d. Data are presented as median (P10–P90).ResultsGestational age was 26.6 (24.4–29.9) weeks in enzyme substituted versus 26.4 (24.7–29.9) weeks in matched controls, and birth weight was 648(420–950)g versus 685(453–949)g. SDS differences for weight improved after onset of PES by 0.18(−0.12 to 0.53) in PES infants versus −0.04(−0.31 to 0.44) in controls. Weight gain increased in the PES group from 13.6 (4.2–22.9) g/kg/day in the week before to 19.0 (10.9–29.1) g/kg/day in the week after the onset of PES. There was no difference in weight gain in substituted subgroups receiving formula/pasteurised human milk versus unpasteurised human breast milk or who had pancreatic-specific elastase-1 concentrations in stool >200 µg/g versus≤200 µg/g. No adverse effects were noted.ConclusionsPES in selected VLBW infants with growth failure despite intensified enteral nutritional support was associated with a significant increase in weight gain in the first 7 days of PES.k

Several numerical studies have shown that non-convex sparsity-induced regularization can outperform the convex ℓ1-penalty. In this article, we introduce a new non-convex and non-smooth regularization. This new regularization is a continuous and separable function which provides a tighter approximation to the cardinality function than any ℓq-penalty (0 < q < 1). We then apply the Proximal Gradient Method to solve a regularized optimization problem with the new regularization. The convergence analysis shows that the algorithm converges to a critical point and we also provide a pseudo-code for fast implementation. Intelligent LED lamps are most often used in intelligent lighting installations. They frequently use one of two different ways to obtain white light. The first is the mixing of monochrome lights R, G and B. The second way is to mix the light of the blue diode with the yellow phosphor radiation. Adjusting the luminous flux in RGBW LED lamps causes greater changes in the position of the chromaticity point than in the case of CW WW LED lamps. In the case of big changes, this can lead to a visible change in the perceived color. In this study, nutritional values and seasonal availability were estimated for 25 local feedstuffs for pigs in western Kenya, based on analyzed nutrient contents and a review of the literature. Characteristics considered included: crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), ether extract (EE), Ca, P, standardized total tract digestible (STTD) P, total Lys, standardized ileal digestible (SID) Lys (all as g kg−1 of DM), and digestible energy (DE) (kcal kg−1 DM). Contents of total Lys, SID lysine, STTD P, and DE were estimated. Overripe improved-variety avocado (Persea americana) had the greatest estimated DE (5280 kcal kg−1 DM) and EE content (521 g kg−1 of DM). Cattle rumen content had the greatest NDF content (664 g kg−1 of DM). Sun-dried fish (Rastrineobola argentea) had the greatest estimated STTD P content (13.5 g kg−1 of DM). Amaranthus spinosus L. had the greatest Ca content (26 g kg−1 of DM). Fresh cattle blood had the greatest CP and estimated SID Lys content (944 and 83.0 g kg−1 of DM, respectively). Feedstuffs availability periods are: March through May plus September and October; June through August; and November through February. Local feedstuffs of sufficient nutritional value for pigs are seasonally available. Estimated nutritional values may assist in diet formulation.

Abstract Objectives Maternal genetic risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) can influence offspring birthweight through shared offspring genetic risk and by altering intrauterine glycemic status. The aim of this study was to estimate the independent effects of maternal and offspring genetic risk scores (GRSs) of T2D on offspring birthweight and the extent to which intrauterine glycemic traits mediate the effect of maternal GRSs on offspring birthweight. Design The study involved 949 mother–offspring pairs of African ancestry from the Hyperglycemia Adverse Pregnancy Outcome study. GRSs of T2D were calculated separately for mothers and offspring as the weighted sum of 91 T2D risk alleles identified in a genome-wide association study meta-analysis in African Americans. Linear regression models were fit to estimate changes in birthweight by quartiles of GRSs. Mediation analysis was implemented to estimate the direct and indirect effects of maternal GRS on offspring birthweight through cord blood C-peptide and maternal fasting and postchallenge glucose levels. Results Maternal and offspring GRSs were independently and differentially associated with offspring birthweight. Changes (95% CI) in birthweight across increasing quartiles of maternal GRSs were 0 g (reference), 83.1 g (6.5, 159.6), 103.1 g (26.0, 180.2), and 92.7 g (12.6, 172.8) (P trend = 0.041) and those of offspring GRSs were 0 (reference), −92.0 g (−169.2, −14.9), −64.9 g (−142.4, 12.6), and 2.0 g (−77.8, 81.7) (P trend = 0.032). Cord blood C-peptide mediated the effect of maternal GRS on offspring birthweight, whereas maternal postchallenge glucose levels showed additive effects with maternal GRS on birthweight. Conclusions Maternal and offspring GRSs of T2D were independently and differentially associated with offspring birthweight.

Se estudiaron los rendimientos de producción del camarón Litopenaeus vannamei en estanques del Golfo de Nicoya, Costa Rica, para evaluar el efecto de las enfermedades diagnosticadas durante el fenómeno de El Niño 2015. Se utilizaron dos sistemas de cultivo: tres ciclos cortos (CC) al año en fincas con baja incidencia de enfermedades y dos ciclos largos (CL) al año en las fincas más afectadas con episodios de altas mortalidades. La sobrevivencia fue menor en aquellas con 2 CL (35.3 ± 3.2%) con respecto a las de 3 CC (63.1 ± 3.2%). Se registró una relación inversa entre el peso promedio alcanzado a la cosecha y la densidad final de cultivo (20.3 ± 0.8 g en 2 CL y 15.2 ± 1.6 g en 3 CC) y una compensación en el crecimiento (1.29 ± 0.12 y 1.08 ± 0.10 g/semana en 2 CL y 3 CC, respectivamente). La producción final fue directamente proporcional a la sobrevivencia con un promedio de 717 ± 8 kg/ha en 2 CL y de 941 ± 53 kg/ha en 3 CC. La productividad se redujo prácticamente a la mitad en 2 CL (1434 kg/ha*año) con respecto a 3 CC (2823 kg/ ha*año). No se encontró un beneficio en la productividad al mantener los cultivos para lograr tallas más grandes con los sobrevivientes luego de eventos de mortalidad severas.

To evaluate whether women with anaemia or high haemoglobin (Hb) in early pregnancy would be at higher risk of miscarriage, this population-based cohort study involved 9453 women whose pregnancies were monitored at primary care centres between 2007 and 2012. The computerised clinical histories were used to collect: Hb measurements (up to 14 weeks of gestation), miscarriage before or by 24 weeks of gestation, and other maternal characteristics. The relation between anaemia (Hb < 110 g/L), normal Hb (110–140 g/L, reference), and high Hb concentrations (≥140 g/L) with miscarriage were expressed as adjusted OR with 95%CI. Restricted cubic spline models were applied to evaluate the dose-response relationships. A total of 520 (5.5%) women were recorded as having a miscarriage. The rate of miscarriage in anaemia, normal Hb, and high Hb concentrations was 8.4%, 5.1%, and 10.2%, respectively. Compared with women with normal Hb at the first trimester, the multivariable-adjusted OR for miscarriage was 2.11 (95%CI, 1.38–3.21) for women with anaemia and 1.83 (95%CI, 1.29–2.58) for women with high Hb. Hb concentrations showed a U-shaped association with miscarriage, with the lowest incidence among women with Hb of 120–130 g/L. These data highlight the importance of considering anaemia and high Hb levels in early pregnancy as harmful indicators for miscarriage.

Aim. To compare 10-day standard triple therapy versus sequential therapy as first-line treatment in patients infected withH. pylori.Methods. One hundredH. pyloripositive patients (diagnosed by rapid urease test and histology), with average age of 47.2, M/F = 28/72, were randomized to receive either standard triple treatment (TT) as follows: lansoprazole 30 mg, clarithromycin 500 mg, and amoxicillin 1 g, b.i.d. for ten days, or sequential treatment (ST) as follows: lansoprazole 30 mg, amoxicillin and placebo 1.0 g b.i.d for the first five days, followed by lansoprazole 30 mg, clarithromycin 500 mg, and tinidazole 500 mg b.i.d, for the remaining five days. Eradication rates were determined 60 days after treatment by urease, histology, or13C-urea breath test.Results. In intention to treat (ITT) analysis, the rate ofH. pylorieradication in the TT and ST groups was the same for both regimens as follows: 86% (43/50), 95% CI 93,3 to 73.4%. In Per protocol (PP) analysis, the rate ofH. pylorieradication in the TT and ST groups was 87.8% (43/49), 95% CI 94,5 to 75.3% and 89.6% (43/48), 95% CI 95,8 to 77.3%, respectively.Conclusions. Abstract. The smallest marine phytoplankton, collectively termed picophytoplankton, have been routinely enumerated by flow cytometry since the late 1980s, during cruises throughout most of the world ocean. We compiled a database of 40 946 data points, with separate abundance entries for Prochlorococcus, Synechococcus and picoeukaryotes. We use average conversion factors for each of the three groups to convert the abundance data to carbon biomass. After gridding with 1° spacing, the database covers 2.4% of the ocean surface area, with the best data coverage in the North Atlantic, the South Pacific and North Indian basins. The average picophytoplankton biomass is 12 ± 22 μg C l−1 or 1.9 g C m−2. We estimate a total global picophytoplankton biomass of 0.53–0.74 Pg C (17–39% Prochlorococcus, 12–15% Synechococcus and 49–69% picoeukaryotes). Future efforts in this area of research should focus on reporting calibrated cell size, and collecting data in undersampled regions.

BACKGROUND Patients with Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) stage B hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are considerably heterogeneous in terms of tumor burden, liver function, and performance status. To improve the poor survival outcomes of these patients, treatment approaches other than transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), which is recommended by HCC guidelines, have been adopted in real-world clinical practice. We hypothesize that this non-adherence to treatment guidelines, particularly with respect to the use of liver resection, improves survival in patients with stage B HCC. AIM To assess guideline adherence in South Korean patients with stage B HCC and study its impact on survival. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from 2008 to 2016 obtained from the Korea Central Cancer Registry. Patients with stage B HCC were categorized into three treatment groups, guideline-adherent, upward, and downward, based on HCC guidelines recommended by the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). The primary outcome was HCC-related deaths; tumor recurrence served as the secondary outcome. Survival among the groups was compared using the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test. Predictors of survival outcomes were identified using multivariable Cox regression analysis. RESULTS In South Korea, over the study period from 2008 to 2016, a notable trend was observed in adherence to HCC guidelines. Adherence to the EASL guidelines started relatively high, ranging from 77% to 80% between 2008 and 2012, but it gradually declined to 58.8% to 71.6% from 2013 to 2016. Adherence to the AASLD guidelines began at 71.7% to 75.9% from 2008 to 2010, and then it fluctuated between 49.2% and 73.8% from 2011 to 2016. In contrast, adherence to the APASL guidelines remained consistently high, staying within the range of 90.14% to 94.5% throughout the entire study period. Upward treatment, for example with liver resection, liver transplantation, or radiofrequency ablation, significantly improved the survival of patients with BCLC stage B HCC compared to that of patients treated in adherence to the guidelines (for patients analyzed according to the 2000 EASL guidelines, the 5-year survival rates were 63.4% vs 27.2%, P < 0.001), although results varied depending on the guidelines. Progression-free survival rates were also significantly improved upon the use of upward treatments in certain groups. Patients receiving upward treatments were typically < 70 years old, had platelet counts > 105/μL, and serum albumin levels ≥ 3.5 g/dL. CONCLUSION Adherence to guidelines significantly influences survival in South Korean stage B HCC patients. Curative treatments outperform TACE, but liver resection should be selected with caution due to disease heterogeneity.

In search of pharmaceutically active products to control type 2 diabetes, five brown seaweeds (Silvetia compressa, Cystoseira osmundacea, Ecklonia arborea, Pterygophora californica, and Egregia menziesii) from the Northwest Mexican Pacific coast were investigated. Proximate composition and total polyphenol content (TPC) as phloroglucinol equivalents (PGE) were determined for the five seaweed powders and their respective hydroethanolic (1 : 1) extracts. Extracts were screened for their radical scavenging activity (DPPH and ORAC) and glycosidase inhibitory activity. HPLC-DAD, HPLC-MS-TOF, and ATR-FT-IR methodologies were used to identify the most abundant phlorotannins and sulfated polysaccharides in the extracts. Hydroethanolic extracts contained minerals (17 to 59% of the dry matter), proteins (4 to 9%), ethanol-insoluble polysaccharides (5.4 to 53%), nitrogen-free extract (NFE) (24.4 to 70.1%), lipids (5 to 12%), and TPC (2.6 to 47.7 g PGE per 100 g dry extract). S. compressa and E. arborea dry extracts presented the lowest ash content (26 and 17%, respectively) and had some of the highest phenolic (47.7 and 15.2 g PGE per 100 g extract), NFE (57.3 and 70.1%), and soluble polysaccharide (19.7 and 53%) contents. S. compressa and E. arborea extracts had the highest antioxidant activity (IC50 DPPH 1.7 and 3.7 mg mL−1; ORAC 0.817 and 0.801 mmol Trolox equivalent/g extract) and the highest α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory capacities (IC50 940 and 1152 μg mL−1 against α-amylase and 194 and 647 μg mL−1 against α-glucosidase). The most abundant phlorotannins identified in the extracts were phloretol, fucophloroethol, and two- and three-phloroglucinol unit (PGU) phlorotannins. Laminarin, fucoidan, and alginate were among the sulfated polysaccharides identified in the extracts. The bioactivities of S. compressa and E. arborea extracts were mainly related with their contents of three PGU phlorotannins and sulfated polysaccharides (e.g., fucoidan, laminarin, and alginate). These results suggest S. compressa and E. arborea are potential candidates for food products and nutraceutical and pharmaceutical preparations, and as additives for diabetes management.

Abstract. Weaning performance of 7 032 purebred Hungarian Fleckvieh calves (3 650 male and 3 382 female) born between 1981 and 2003 from 1 452 cows mated with 113 sires were analysed in two farms. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of environmental factors on weaning traits. Farm, age of cows, year of birth, season of birth and sex of calves as fixed, while sire as a random effect was treated. Data were analysed with HARVEY’s (1990) Least Square Maximum Likelihood Computer Program. The overall mean value and standard error of weaning weight, preweaning daily gain and 205-day weight were 214 ± 3.01 kg, 980 ± 17.31 g/day and 236 ± 3.40 kg, respectively. The mean age of the analysed calves was 181 ± 33 days. The results of the examination show that weaning weight, preweaning daily gain and 205-day weight increased as far as the 6 year age cows (the maximum were 226 ± 3.13 kg, 1 049 ± 17.89 g/day, 251 ± 3.54 kg). As for the season effect the calves born in summer were smaller (208 ± 3.12 kg, 946 ± 17.84 g/day and 230 ± 3.52 kg) than that of born in the other seasons (P<0.001). The male calves were heavier than females, the difference was 12 kg, 50 g/day, 16 kg, respectively (P<0.001). The best year was 1985, the worst 2000.

ABSTRACT One of the contributions of the Islamic banking sector to Indonesia’s economy is channeling funds to MSMEs in the form of financing since a number of them could not access financial services. Interestingly, the MSMEs grew as the Islamic Banking sector rose. However, no single study analyzes such an impact on unemployment in both rural and urban areas. This paper aimed to reveal the effect of MSMEs financing in Islamic banks on unemployment in Indonesia. It further aimed to discover such an effect on unemployment in Indonesia's urban and rural areas separately. Dynamic panel GMM two-step analysis is used in this research to estimate cross-province data in Indonesia between 2010 and 2019. The results of the study reveal that MSMEs financing in Islamic Banks contributed significantly to the reduction of unemployment in Indonesia as a whole. It is also found that the unemployment in urban areas is reduced by MSMEs financing in Islamic Banks. On the other hand, there is no significant relationship between MSMEs financing in Islamic Banks and unemployment in rural areas. These findings can be the basis for Islamic banks to increase MSMEs financing and for the government to expand Islamic banks' role in every part of Indonesia to reduce unemployment, especially in rural areas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pengaruh pembiayaan UMKM di bank syariah terhadap pengangguran di Indonesia. Hal ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui lebih jauh pengaruh tersebut terhadap pengangguran di daerah perkotaan dan pedesaan secara terpisah di Indonesia. Analisis dua langkah GMM panel dinamis digunakan untuk mengestimasi data lintas provinsi di Indonesia antara tahun 2010 dan 2019. Hasilnya mengungkapkan bahwa pembiayaan UMKM di Bank Syariah berkontribusi signifikan terhadap pengurangan pengangguran di Indonesia secara keseluruhan. Ditemukan juga bahwa pengangguran di perkotaan berkurang dengan pembiayaan UMKM di Bank Syariah. Di sisi lain, tidak ada hubungan yang signifikan antara pembiayaan UMKM di bank syariah dengan pengangguran di pedesaan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi dasar bagi bank-bank syariah dalam meningkatkan porsi pembiayaan UMKM dan dasar bagi pemerintah untuk memperluas peran perbankan syariah di seluruh bagian Indonesia untuk mengurangi pengangguran, khususnya di area pedesaan. BACKGROUND: Celiac disease (CD) is mostly recognized among subjects with a Caucasian ethnic ancestry. No studies have explored conditions predisposing Amerindians to CD.OBJECTIVE: To prospectively assess environmental, genetic and serological conditions associated with CD among members of the Toba native population attending a multidisciplinary sanitary mission.METHODS: An expert nutritionist determined daily gluten intake using an established questionnaire. Gene typing for the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II alleles was performed on DNA extracted from peripheral blood (HLA DQ2/DQ8 haplotype). Serum antibodies were immunoglobulin (Ig) A tissue transglutaminase (tTG) and the composite deamidated gliadin peptides/tTG Screen test. Positive cases were tested for IgA endomysial antibodies.RESULTS: A total of 144 subjects (55% female) were screened. The estimated mean gluten consumption was 43 g/day (range 3 g/day to 185 g/day). Genetic typing showed that 73 of 144 (50.7%) subjects had alleles associated with CD; 69 (94.5%) of these subjects had alleles for HLA DQ8 and four had DQ2 (5.5%). Four and six subjects had antibody concentrations above the cut-off established by the authors’ laboratory (>3 times the upper limit of normal) for IgA tTG and deamidated gliadin peptides/tTG screen, respectively. Four of these had concomitant positivity for both assays and endomysial antibodies were positive in three subjects who also presented a predisposing haplotype.CONCLUSION: The present study was the first to detect CD in Amerindians. The native Toba ethnic population has very high daily gluten consumption and a predisposing genetic background. We detected subjects with persistent CD autoimmunity and, at least, three of them fulfilled serological criteria for CD diagnosis.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the amount of macronutrients in aggregate of human milk samples after preterm delivery during the first 2 months of lactation.MethodsAnalysis of the donated single milk samples, gained by complete emptying of the whole breast at the same daytime between 24+0 and 35+6 gestational age (GA), was designed as prospective observational cohort trial. Two milk samples were analysed every postnatal week up to the discharge from the hospital, week 9 or loss of lactation. 24-Hour milk collection was not done. Analysis was performed using the MIRIS Human Milk Analyser (MIRIS AB, Uppsala, Sweden).ResultsA set of 1917 human milk samples donated by 225 mothers after preterm labour was analysed. Group A (24–30 GA) contains 969 milk samples; group B (31–35 GA) contains 948 milk samples. No difference in milk composition between the groups was identified. Median of true protein content decreased from 1.6 g/dL in group A and 1.5 g/dL in group B in the first week of life, to 1.1 g/dL in both groups at the end of week 3, and then remained stable up to week 9. Content of carbohydrates and fat was stable during the whole observation, with interindividual differences.ConclusionHuman milk does not differ as a function of degree of prematurity. Protein content of preterm human milk is low and decreases during the first 3 weeks of lactation. Recommended daily protein intake cannot be achieved with routine fortification in majority of milk samples.

AimsThalassaemia is one of the most common genetics disorders in the world, especially in southern China. The aim of the present study was to investigate the feasibility of combining the gap-PCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS) for thalassaemia carrier screening in the Chinese population.MethodsBlood samples were obtained from 944 prepregnancy couples; thalassaemia carrier screening was performed by using a routine haematological method and a combination of gap-PCR and NGS method.ResultsWe found that the α thalassaemia carrier rate was 11% (207/1888); the β thalassaemia carrier rate was 3.7% (70/1888); the composite α thalassaemia and β thalassaemia carrier rate was 0.4% (8/1888). We also identified seven novel mutations, including HBA1: c.412A>G, −50 (G>A), HBB: c.*+129T>A, HBB: c.-64G>C, HBB: c.-180G>C, HBB: c.*+5G>A and HBB: c.-113A>G. By comparing the combined gap-PCR and NGS method, the MCV+MCH and HbA2 detection strategy showed a lower sensitivity of 61.05% (105/172) and a higher missed diagnosis ratio of 38.95% (67/172) for α thalassaemia mutations. The sensitivity was improved with the MCV+MCH and HbA2 detection screen when compared with MCV+MCH detection for β thalassaemia (98.51% vs 85.90%).ConclusionsOur study suggests the combined gap-PCR and NGS method is a cost-effective method for the thalassaemia carrier screening, particularly for the α thalassaemia mutation carriers.

Определены температурные зависимости параметров решеток моноклинной фазы a-Ga2S3 (Cc) и гексагональной слоистой фазы b-GaS (P63/mmc), причем показано, что параметр c последней существенно зависит от температуры вследствие увеличения ван-дер-ваальсовой щели.

Background: Anemia in pregnancy increases the need for blood transfusion during and after delivery and is associated with an increased risk of maternal and fetal mortality, therefore preventing maternal anemia may improve outcomes. Iron deficiency is the most common pathologic cause of anemia in pregnancy and is estimated to affect about 30% of pregnant women in the third trimester in the US. The baseline peripartum blood transfusion rate at our institution is 3.2%. Historically, patients who may have benefited from intravenous (IV) iron were continued on oral iron and subsequently delivered with persistent iron deficiency anemia. If identified to need IV iron, these patients were usually referred to a hematologist. However, in the absence of a structured protocol, referral was provider-dependent. Objective: We formed a multidisciplinary work group consisting of members from the departments of Hematology, Obstetrics, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Blood Bank to reduce peripartum blood transfusions by developing a process to manage pregnant patients with iron deficiency anemia. The treatment algorithm utilized at our institution was adapted from "How I treat anemia in pregnancy: iron, cobalamin, and folate" (Achebe & Gafter-Gvili, 2017), which recommends IV iron for hemoglobin less than 11 g/dL and ferritin less than 30 µg/dL in the third trimester and for hemoglobin less than 10.5 g/dL and ferritin less than 30 µg/dL in the second trimester along with recommendations for iron repletion in the first trimester. The primary endpoint was the utilization of blood transfusion. Secondary endpoints included an increase in maternal hemoglobin after treatment and evaluating the safety of IV ferric carboxymaltose as measured by side effects and frequency of hypophosphatemia. Five months after initiation of the IV iron recommendations, we performed an audit to assess its use. Methods: A retrospective IRB-approved chart review of anemic, iron-deficient pregnant women who received IV ferric carboxymaltose from 1/30/19 - 6/30/19 was performed. Thirty-six patients were identified and their charts were reviewed to determine the hemoglobin and ferritin levels prior to IV iron, the number of IV iron infusions received with any side effects, phosphorus levels on days of IV iron, hemoglobin level after IV iron, and need for peripartum blood transfusion. Results: Of the 36 patients who received IV iron for anemia in pregnancy, post-IV iron hemoglobin and blood transfusion information was only available for 26 patients. The remaining 10 patients had not delivered as yet or had delivered at another institution so data were not available. Of these 26 patients, the median age was 26.0 years and all received IV iron during their third trimester. No patients required a blood transfusion peripartum. The average hemoglobin prior to IV iron was 9.3 g/dL and the average hemoglobin after 1-2 IV iron infusions was 11.3 g/dL, an increase of 2.0 g/dL across the total group (Figure 1) (p<0.0001). Of these 26 patients, 7 patients received 1 dose of IV iron and 2 patients experienced heartburn or nausea during or soon after the IV iron infusion. Phosphorus levels were checked in 24 patients and 6 experienced hypophosphatemia with no attributable side effects. No patient experienced a serious adverse effect or reaction requiring discontinuation of IV iron therapy. Conclusion: Results from the first 5 months of this project suggest using a standardized iron deficiency anemia treatment protocol including IV iron to reduce the need for peripartum blood transfusion and increase hemoglobin levels. Additionally, our data suggest IV ferric carboxymaltose is well-tolerated in these patients. These results also support using multi-professional teams to improve the quality of healthcare delivery to pregnant patients with iron deficiency anemia. We have created an IRB-approved database to study more patient-centered postpartum outcomes such as quality of life among IV iron recipients as well as lactation rates and fetal outcomes. We plan to expand this strategy to other patients who have a predictable and likely preventable need for intermittent blood transfusion, such as patients with chronic gynecologic blood loss. A field study was carried out at Main Agricultural Research Station (MARS), Dharwad during kharif 2010-11 and 2011-12 to study the effect of organic manures and micronutrients on cotton. The results of the two years pooled data revealed that, application of enriched compost (EC) (1/3) + vermicompost (VC) (1/3) + gliricidia leaf manure (GLM) (1/3) equivalent to recommended dose of fertilizer (5 tonnes/ha FYM) recorded significantly higher kapas yield (1 944 kg/ha) and mean boll weight (4.57 g) over EC (1/3) + VC (1/3) + GLM (1/3) equivalent to recommended dose of nitrogen. Foliar spray of panchagavya @ 5% recorded significantly higher kapas yield (2 038 kg/ha) and mean boll weight (4.76 g) over foliar spray of bio-digester @ 20% (1 874 kg/ha). Among the organic treatment combinations, combined application of EC (1/3) + VC (1/3) + GLM (1/3) equivalent to RDF with foliar spray of panchagavya @ 5% recorded significantly higher kapas yield (1 999 kg/ha) and mean boll weight (4.70 g) over other organic combinations. Application of EC (1/3) + VC (1/3) + GLM (1/3) equivalent to RDF recorded significantly higher gross returns, net returns and B:C ratio (Rupees 110380, 77335/ha and 3.34, respectively) over other manurial treatments. The foliar spray of panchagavya @ 5% recorded significantly higher gross returns, net returns and B:C ratio (Rupees 108542, 76048 ha and 3.34, respectively) over foliar spray of bio-digester @ 20%. Among the treatment combinations, combined application of EC (1/3) + VC (1/3) + GLM (1/3) equivalent to RDF with foliar spray of panchagavya @ 5% recorded significantly higher gross returns, net returns and B:C ratio (Rupees 113574, 80199/ha and 3.40, respectively) over EC (1/3) + VC (1/3) + GLM (1/3) equivalent to RDN with foliar spray of bio-digester @ 20%. Higher yield, yield parameters and economics can be obtained in cotton with combined application of EC (1/3) + VC (1/3) + GLM (1/3) equivalent to RDF with foliar spray of panchagavya @ 5%.

Recalls and/or outbreaks associated with Salmonella contamination in peanut-containing products were reported over the past several years. There are very limited data available on the prevalence and concentration of Salmonella on raw shelled peanuts in the United States. The objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence of Salmonella on raw shelled peanuts in the United States and to estimate that concentration of Salmonella. Samples of Runner- and Virginia-type raw shelled peanuts from the 2008, 2009, and 2010 crop years were proportionately sampled from each growing region, based on 2007 production volume. Of 944 raw shelled peanut samples (375 g each), 22 (2.33%) were positive for Salmonella by the VIDAS Salmonella assay. Salmonella serovars identified in this study included Agona, Anatum, Braenderup, Dessau, Hartford, Meleagridis, Muenchen, Rodepoort, Tennessee, and Tornow. The concentration levels of Salmonella in positive samples, as determined by a most-probable-number assay, were <0.03 to 2.4 MPN/g. These data will be useful when designing and validating processes for the reduction or elimination of Salmonella in peanuts and/or peanut-containing products.

Our meta-analysis aggregated existing results from relevant studies to comprehensively investigate the correlations between genetic polymorphisms in dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPYD) gene and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) toxicities in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The MEDLINE (1966∼2013), the Cochrane Library Database (Issue 12, 2013), EMBASE (1980∼2013), CINAHL (1982∼2013), Web of Science (1945∼2013), and the Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM) (1982∼2013) were searched without language restrictions. Meta-analyses were conducted with the use of STATA software (Version 12.0, Stata Corporation, College Station, TX, USA). Seven clinical cohort studies with a total of 946 CRC patients met our inclusion criteria, and NOS scores of each of the included studies were ≥5. Our findings showed thatDPYDgenetic polymorphisms were significantly correlated with high incidences of 5-FU-related toxicity in CRC patients. SNP-stratified analysis indicated that there were remarkable connections of IVS14+1G>A, 464T>A, and 2194G>A polymorphisms with the incidence of marrow suppression in CRC patients receiving 5-FU chemotherapy. Furthermore, we found that IVS14+1G>A, 496A>G, and 2194G>A polymorphisms were correlated with the incidence of gastrointestinal reaction. Ethnicity-stratified analysis also revealed thatDPYDgenetic polymorphisms might contribute to the development of marrow suppression and gastrointestinal reaction among Asians, but not among Caucasians. The present meta-analysis suggests thatDPYDgenetic polymorphisms may be correlated with the incidence of 5-FU-related toxicity in CRC patients.

King sago palm or sago cycas are the other name of Kangi palm (Cycas revoluta) sago palm has been used as an indoor and outdoor landscape plant for centuries. The present study was conducted to estimate the effect of different priming treatments on seed germination of sago palm (Cycas revoluta L.) in the research area of Department of Horticulture PMAS, University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The Experiment consisted of ten treatments; the seeds without pulp were soaked in solution of 500, 750 and 1000 ppm GA3 and 2%, 3% and 4% solution of KNO3 for 24 hr at room temperature. In case of hot water treatment, seeds were primed at 80oC, 90oC and 100oC for 30, 20 and 10 minutes respectively. The effect of different concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA3), potassium nitrate (KNO3) and hot water on various parameters like germination rate, germination percentage, germination value, decayed seed percentage, time of germination, number of leaves and seedling height were studied. Significant results of germination rate (55.56 days), germination value (192.19) were achieved from 500 ppm GA3. Maximum germination percentage (73.33%) and number of leaves (2) were observed in KNO3 at 2% followed by 500 ppm GA3. Similarly lowest decayed seed percentage (26.66%) and time of germination (59.41 days) were noted in 2% KNO3. The seedling height was optimum (19.33 cm) in 3% KNO3 followed by 2% KNO3. Best germination results were obtained due to permeability of hard seed coat made by low concentrations of priming treatments (KNO3 @ 3%).Key wordCycas revoluta, gibberellic acid, potassium nitrate, germination parametersINTRODUCTIONThe sago palm (Cycas revoluta L.) is one of the important cycad commonly known as Kanghi palm or Japanese sago or simply sago palm. The cold hardy sago palm has been used as an indoor and outdoor landscape plant for centuries. It is used as a significant or focal point in any landscape design. Despite its importance in ornamental industry, it is facing certain problems regarding its germination due to its hard seed coat. It has been estimated that over 25% of all palm species require over 100 days for germination and they have less than 20% total germination (Tomlinson, 1990). So, there is a serious need of consideration to sort out this major issue. The reasons for this remain obscure, as little research work has been accomplished on seed dormancy in palms. Certain mechanical and chemical scarification, pretreatments were proved to be effective in germination of the hard-seeded species of Cycas and some other species (Frett, 1987; Chauhan et al., 2009; Rouhi et al., 2010). Cycad seeds respond to various pretreatment, including scarification, depulping and exposure to some chemical materials like gibberellic acid (GA3), potassium nitrate (KNO3) and soaking in hot water for specific period of time.The overall development of plant is regulated by the growth hormones, nutrient and environmental factors. They also vary in their germination requirement (Chauhan et al., 2009). KNO3 is most widely used chemical for promoting germination. Solutions of 0.1 to 0.2% KNO3 are common in routine germination testing and are recommended by the Association of Official Seed Analysts and the International Seed Testing Association for germination tests of many species (Copeland and McDonald, 1995).OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the present research was to minimize the time period of seed germination and to enhance percentage of germination by breaking the external dormancy through different levels of chemicals including GA3, KNO3 and hot water.MATERIALS AND METHODSThis study was conducted in the research field of Department of Horticulture PMAS, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. An experiment was conducted by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD).The seeds of sago palm were collected from 10-15 years old female stocks growing at a commercial garden located in suburb of Islamabad city. Uniform, equal and the same weight and healthy seeds were selected. The seeds had diameter 2.54 to 5.08 cm. Seeds were soaked in fresh water for two weeks to remove pulp from the upper surface of hard seed coat. Seeds without pulp were soaked in solution of 500, 750 and 1000 ppm GA3 and 2%, 3% and 4% solution of KNO3 for 24 hr at room temperature. In case of hot water treatment, seeds were primed at 80oC, 90oC and 100oC for 30, 20 and 10 minutes respectively (Table 1). Then seeds were washed with few drops of tween twenty in order to remove surface tension. Seeds were dried at 24oC room temperature. After sterilization, 10 seeds of sago palm were planted in each pot of 14 inch diameter containing sterilized soil media ( Sand, soil, FYM 1:1:1) at 4-8 cm depth and incubated in a greenhouse at daytime temperature of 25±2°C and relative humidity of 60-80% and watered weekly depending on weather conditions. Germination was evaluated at the end of 10 months. Seed emergence was recorded as germination index. The data for germination rate (days), germination percentage (%), germination value, seed decayed percentage (%) and time of germination (days) were recorded during the course of study. After seed germination, observations were recorded for number of leaves an d seedling height. The data collected was compiled and analysed statistically by using computer software germination; observations were recorded for number of leaves (Steel and Torrie, 1980).RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONAnalysis of data showed that parameters related to germination significantly affected by hydro and chemical priming treatments (Table 2). Seeds treated with 500 ppm GA3 showed maximum germination rate (55.56 days) which was statistically significant with control. Hot water treatments observed average germination rate. Minimum germination rate (159.88 days) was recorded in unprimed seeds. Gibberellin encourage germination by inducing hydrolytic enzymes that weaken the hurdle tissues such as the endosperm or seed coat, inducing mobilization of food reserves in seed and stimulating expansion of the embryo (Bewley and Black, 1994; Dhoran and Gudadhe, 2012).Germination rate (days) and germination percentage (%): The data regarding germination percentage indicated that difference between primed and non-primed seeds was statistically significant. Lower concentrations of potassium nitrate (KNO3) @ 2% and gibberellic acid (GA3) @ 500 ppm treatments significantly affected the germination percentage 73.33% and 70% respectively as compared to control (33.33%). Significant improvement in seed germination might be due to enhanced breakdown of reserve metabolites present in seed. The lower concentration of KNO3 has promoting effect on seed germination as compared to its higher concentration. This leads to supposition that higher concentrations exercise decreasing effects on seed germination by causing death of cells and ultimately result in loss of seed viability (Nascimento, 2003; Ramzan et al., 2010).Germination value: Analysis of variance revealed that germination value was affected by various priming treatments (Table 2). Result regarding germination value (192.19) was highest in T1 (500 ppm GA3) followed by 186.42 in T4 (3% KNO3) and 184.12 in T2 (750 ppm GA3). Minimum germination (74.43) was noted in control. The gibberellic acid has positive effect on germination value due to its hormonal regulation capability and retarding effect against abscisic acid present in dormant seeds (Var et al., 2010; Zarchini et al., 2013; Pipinis et al., 2015).Decayed seed percentage (%): Data regarding decayed seed percentage have displayed in Table 2. The difference between primed and non-primed seed was significant and primed seed have minimum decayed seed percentage as compared to non-primed seeds. Lowest decayed seed percentage (26.66%) was recorded when 2% KNO3 was applied followed by 30% when 500 ppm GA3) was applied. Whereas maximum decayed (66.66%) of seeds was occurred in untreated seeds. It is reported that scarified treatments have improved germination as compared to non-scarified seeds. Decayed seed percentage might be highest in control due to impermeability of hard seed coat (Fallahabadi et al., 2012).Time of germination (days): Potassium nitrate showed a statistically significant effect on reducing the germination time (Table 2). Minimum time of germination (59.41 days) was recorded in seeds treated with 2% KNO3 followed by 3% and 4% KNO 3 levelswhich took 63.81 days and 72.15 days respectively while maximum time duration was taken by control (204.58 days). Reduction in seed germination time was occurred when seeds of Descurainia sophia and Plantago ovate were primed with 0.3% KNO3 (Ali et al., 2010; Gashi et al., 2012). Stimulating effect of nitrate for seed germination might be due to dormancy breakage (Hilhorst, 1990). It stimulates oxygen uptake (Hilton and Thomas, 1986) and KNO3 act as co-factor for phytochrome (Mavi et al., 2006).Number of leaves: Analysis of data showed that number of leaves influenced by different treatments. Hormonal priming with 2% KNO3 gave maximum number of leaves per seedling followed by priming with 3% KNO3, 4% KNO3 and in 500 ppm GA3, 750 ppm GA3 and 1000 ppm GA3 in improving number of leaves per seedling as compared to other physical priming treatments, while results of minimum number of leaves were achieved in non-primed seeds. It was suggested that potassium is an important macronutrient that plays a key role in carbohydrate metabolism and photosynthesis (Marschner, 2011; Kazemi, 2013).Seedling height (cm): Analysis of variance exposed that there was a significant difference between primed and non-primed seed for seedling height (Table. 2). It was found that maximum seedling height was 19.33 cm influenced by 3% KNO3 while minimum 11.33 cm observed in 90oC hot water. It is reported that foliar application of K, improved the chlorophyll and fruits-NK content (Sarrwy et al., 2010; Marschner, 2011; Kazemi, 2013).CONCLUSIONThe present study was undertaken to assess the effect of different priming treatments on seed germination of Cycas revoluta L. The results of the study clearly indicated that germination rate and germination value were maximum at lower concentration of gibberellic acid (500 ppm GA3). While, germination percentage, maximum number of leaves, maximum seedling height , decayed seed percentage and time required for seed germination were observed minimum at lower concentration of potassium nitrate (2% and 3% KNO3). AbstractDeveloping more organic nucleating agent with different molecular structure is very instructive to improve the crystallization of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) and explore the crystallization mechanism. In this study, N, N’-sebacic bis(hydrocinnamic acid) dihydrazide (HAD) was synthesized to serve as a nucleating agent for PLLA. The effects of HAD on the non-isothermal crystallization, melting behavior, thermal stability and optical performance of PLLA were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and light transmittance meter. The melt crystallization behavior showed that HAD was able to promote the crystallization of PLLA via heterogenous nucleation in cooling, and it was found that, upon the cooling of 1°C/min, the incorporation of 1 wt% HAD made the crystallization temperature and non-isothermal crystallization enthalpy increase from 94.5°C and 0.1 J/g to 131.6°C and 48.5 J/g comparing with the pure PLLA. Additionally, the melt crystallization significantly depended on the cooling rate and the final melting temperature. For the cold crystallization, when the nucleation density from HAD and PLLA itself was saturated, the influence of the HAD concentration on the cold crystallization process of the PLLA/HAD samples is negligible. The melting behavior after isothermal or non-isothermal crystallization further confirmed the crystallization accelerating effect of HAD for PLLA, and the appearance of the double melting peaks was attributed to the melting-recrystallization. Unfortunately, the addition of HAD decreased the thermal stability and light transmittance of PLLA.

Neste estudo pretendemos analisar o modo como alunos da licenciatura em Letras-Português da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, durante o estágio curricular, atuam para ensinar seus alunos a refletir sobre a língua, concretizando um dos eixos de ensino desse componente curricular que é a análise linguística. A pesquisa, do tipo qualitativo-descritiva, teve como corpus projetos e relatórios de estágio, além de depoimentos dos estagiários, captados no seminário de encerramento das atividades de regência de turma do ensino fundamental. Para montar o referencial teórico, buscamos autores que tratam da formação docente, do estágio e do ensino de análise linguística. Os resultados mostraram que os futuros professores trabalham numa perspectiva sociointeracionista e exploram uma diversidade de gêneros textuais, como indicado nas orientações mais recentes para o ensino de língua portuguesa. No entanto, a maioria deles explicita pouco os procedimentos didáticos realizados, não indica as dificuldades dos alunos quando da avaliação da aprendizagem e aborda determinados conhecimentos linguísticos de forma expositiva e dedutiva.Referências:ALMEIDA FILHO, J. The knowledge of the science of human body parts for early childhood is very important so that children have the ability to recognize and support the cleanliness and health of members of the body, as well as so that they recognize their identity. In addition, introducing environmentally friendly material for early childhood teachers to enrich learning media. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in science using environmentally friendly media. The topic raised in this search was about recognizing body parts and their benefits and treatments. This type of research is action research. Respondents involved 19 early childhood students. The results showed that there was an increase in subjects' understanding of swallowing extremities and treatment 60% in the pre-cycle phase, 80% in the first cycle and 93% in the second cycle. The findings show that the use of happy body media has a positive effect on limb recognition. Further research is recommended on environmentally friendly media and ways of introducing limbs to early childhood through media or strategies suitable for the millennial era.

Solar cells based on c-Si/porous-Si/CdS/ZnxCd1-xO heterojunctions were synthesized by depositing CdS films on c-Si/porous-Si (PS) substrates by electrochemical deposition (ED). PS layers with systematically varied pore diameter (8-45 nm) and were fabricated on p-type c-Si wafers using electrochemical etching. The window layers of ZnxCd1-xO with several Zn concentrations(x=0.2; 0.4; 0.5 and 0.6) were also deposited on the CdS buffer layers by ED. The photoelectrical properties of heterojunctions were studied as functions of PS pore size and Zn content in ZnxCd1-xO. The optimal pore size and Zn contents were found to be 10 nm and x=0.6, respectively. These yielded a solar cell sample exhibiting an efficiency of 9.9%, the maximum observed in this study.
