Cette thèse étudie la participation du patronat à la formation des ouvriers en France en traitant de l'école Renault de Boulogne (1919-1989). Elle examine l'inscription d'un enseignement professionnel dans la production en posant la question de son autonomie et de la promotion sociale des jeunes formés. La vision d'un enseignement professionnel dépendant essentiellement de l'Etat est refutée par cette recherche insistant au contraire sur l'implication de divers acteurs. Ainsi, la situation de la ville de Boulogne illustre les enjeux de la formation : aide a la mobilité sociale d'enfants des classes populaires du côté de la municipalité de gauche ; constitution d'agents acquis à la rationalisation du côté de la direction de l'enseignement technique et des industriels. Paradoxalement pour une telle école, son évolution s'est pourtant faite selon une séparation du travail. La participation du patronat à la formation s'est d'abord déroulée sur des bases issues du travail (1920-1950). Puis au terme de l'appropriation par les acteurs de l'entreprise d'une hiérarchie des savoirs reléguant les savoirs de métier derrière les savoirs scientifiques et techniques, la formation est devenue peu différente de celle des écoles d'Etat (1950-1980). Cette évolution a conduit à la fermeture d'une école qui a contribué a la composition de l'encadrement de Renault : comme dans le modèle allemand, les jeunes débutaient dans des emplois d'atelier avant d'accéder à des emplois à responsabilités. Leurs carrières montrent que l'expérience a longtemps prévalu sur la possession d'un titre dans l'industrie.

Tutkielma käsittelee oululaisen Onnelan lastenkodin historiaa sen toiminnan kahden ensimmäisen vuosikymmenen ajalta. Onnelan nimellä tunnettu, yhä toiminnassa oleva, lastenkoti perustettiin Kastellin alueelle vuonna 1922. Sen perustaja oli Oulun Orpokotiyhdistys, joka aloitti toimintansa vuonna 1919 ylläpitämällä Laanilassa pientä orpokotia, jota voi pitää Onnelan edeltäjänä. Tutkielman kattama ajanjakso sijoittuu vuosiin 1919–1939.
Tutkielman lähdemateriaali on koottu arkistokokonaisuuksista, joihin kuuluvat Onnelan lastenkodin, Koteja Kodittomille Lapsille ry:n vastaanottokodin kannattajayhtymän, Oulun Orpokotiyhdistyksen ja Pelastakaa Lapset Oulun osasto ry:n arkistot. Lähdemateriaalin hajanaisuus johtuu lastenkotien ylläpidon mutkikkaasta historiasta. Onnelan taustalla on vaikuttanut useita yhdistyksiä, jotka ovat jättäneet jälkeensä tietoja lastenkodin menneisyydestä. Tärkeimpiä lähteitä ovat yhdistysten ja lastenkodin toimintakertomukset sekä Onnelan nimikirjat.
Onnela perustettiin huolehtimaan kansalaissodan vuoksi orvoksi jääneistä ja muista huollon tarpeessa olevista lapsista. Oulun Orpokotiyhdistys ylläpiti Onnelaa vuoteen 1929 saakka, jolloin lastenkoti tuli Koteja Kodittomille Lapsille ry:n hoidettavaksi. Koteja Kodittomille Lapsille ry:n Oulun läänin vastaanottokodin kannattajayhtymä oli ylläpitänyt vuosina 1926–1929 Oulussa lasten vastaanottokotia, joka toimi lasten väliaikaisena asuinpaikkana ennen uusiin kasvatuskoteihin sijoittamista tai kotiinpaluuta. Vuonna 1929 Onnela jatkoi tätä vastaanottokotitoimintaa.
Onnela toimi pääasiassa valtion ja kuntien avustusten ja huoltomaksujen turvin, mutta yksityisillä lahjoituksillakin oli merkitystä. Taloudellinen tilanne oli jatkuvasti tiukka, etenkin 1930-luvun alun pula-ajan seurauksena, mutta lastenkoti pystyi sopeutumaan ja jatkamaan toimintaansa. Niukkuus näkyi lastenkodin tiloissa ja henkilökunnan määrässä: suurimmaksi osaksi lastenkodissa oli vain kaksi työntekijää. Etenkin pitkäaikaisen johtajattaren Signe Airon työpanosta pidettiin suuressa arvossa.
Ensimmäisten toimintavuosikymmenten aikana Onnelassa asui 12–23 lasta. Huollettavien lasten määrä vaihteli, etenkin 1930-luvulla, kun Onnela toimi vastaanottokotina. Kaikkia avun tarpeessa olleita lapsia ei pystytty resurssien puutteen vuoksi ottamaan vastaan. Eniten kyselyjä hoitopaikoista tuli taloudellisesti vaikeimpina vuosina. Huollon tarpeen taustalla oli varsinaisen orpouden lisäksi monenlaisia perhesyitä kuten köyhyyttä ja huoltajien sairauksia. Suuri osa lapsista pääsi aikanaan palaamaan omaan kotiinsa. Monille hankittiin myös uudet kasvatuskodit, jotka ajan tavan mukaisesti sijaitsivat maaseudulla.
Onnelassa asuessaan lapset kävivät koulua, harjoittelijat kotitöitä ja leikkivät. Heitä pyrittiin kasvattamaan kristillisesti. Tarkastuskertomuksissa Onnelan elämää kuvaillaan myönteisesti: niukkuudesta huolimatta lapset olivat terveitä ja hyväkäytöksisiä. Onnelan arki pyrittiin järjestämään siten, että lapset pystyisivät elämään mahdollisimman normaalia elämää.

L'ampleur globale des destructions sur le Chemin des Dames (Aisne) est incontestablement sans précédent au lendemain de la Première Guerre mondiale et justifie une étude à part entière sur sa reconstruction. La gestion et la digestion de " l'événement ruine " et par là même la Reconstruction de ce pays rural apparaissent fortement contrastées. L'immense machine administrative d'après guerre digère plutôt bien tous les cas particuliers grâce à ses formulaires et répond aux besoins les plus pressants confirmant une tendance à un changement de nature de l'Etat sur le Chemin des Dames. Les inégalités demeurent néanmoins bien présentes confirmant ce que certains appellent dès 1921 " Le scandale des régions libérées ". De cette interaction des cultures, des droits, des techniques ; de ce subtil mélange de tradition et modernisme, permanence et mutation ; de cette confrontation à un milieu, va naître une société des ruines dont cette thèse tente de dresser le portrait.

A l'encontre d'une certaine tradition en histoire de l'art au Québec qui fait remonter les débuts de la modernité dans les arts visuels aux premières abstractions produites dans les années quarante, cette thèse veut démontrer que l'émergence d'une pensée esthétique et d'une pratique artistique se réclamant de la modernité est à retracer dans les années vingt et trente. Encore minoritaire au sein d'une société conservatrice dominée par un catholicisme et un nationalisme rétrograde, ce courant contribue à l'ouverture de la culture québécoise aux tendances internationales, européennes comme américaines. La première partie de cette thèse tente de cerner, à travers les articles des principaux critiques d'art, les paramètres d'une première expression d'une pensée esthétique moderne. Dénonçant les contraintes de l'académisme et du nationalisme en art, ces critiques, tenants d'un réalisme contemporain, défendent un "art vivant" dont la pratique repose sur une réinterprétation subjective du réel. La seconde partie veut retracer, dans les œuvres produites par ces artistes qui, pour la plupart, comptent parmi les membres fondateurs de la société d'art contemporain de Montréal, en 1939, ce qui caractérise, d'un point de vue iconographique et formel, les débuts de la modernité picturale. A travers des procédés qui empruntent au postimpressionnisme et à l'expressionnisme, ces œuvres révèlent l'intérêt des peintres pour de nouveaux sujets<br>In contrast to a certain part of Quebec's art history which dates back to the first abstractions produced in the forties, the beginning of modernity in visual art, this study will demonstrate that the first expressions of modern artistic thought and practice emerged in the twenties and the thirties. Still a minority in a conservative nationalist and catholic society, this current is opening Quebec’s culture to international artistic tendencies : European as American. Based on the articles of the major modern art critics, the first part of the tensis studies the main characteristics of that first modern esthetic thought. Against the constraint of academism and nationalism in art, these critics, in favor of a contemporary realism, defend an" art vivant" (living art), based on subjective and personal reinterpretation of reality. From works produced by artists who where, for the vast majority, founders members of the contemporary arts society of Montreal in 1939, the second part investigates the iconographic and formal aspects of that first pictural modernity. Using post-impressionist and expressionist processes, these artists painted new subjects, different of those of the Quebec tradition

La convention franco-polonaise du 3 septembre 1919 permet l'arrivée massive en France des ouvriers polonais, majoritairement catholiques, mais ne prévoit pas leur encadrement religieux. Deux initiatives polonaises vont organiser la vie religieuse des ouvriers immigrés : la Mission catholique polonaise datant de 1836, dirigeant le travail des prêtres ; et l'Union des Associations catholiques polonaises fondée en 1924. L'étude analyse le fonctionnement et les activités de ces deux institutions, en particulier : - leur genèse, l'évolution de leur structure, le statut des prêtres polonais et leurs relations avec le clergé français, la répartition géographique, l'apport des congrégations religieuses ; -les différentes formes de pastorale, les activités des sociétés catholiques, les actions en faveur des enfants et des jeunes, la presse religieuse, l'engagement dans l'enseignement du polonais, l'adhésion aux syndicats, les relations avec les autres associations et les autorités polonaises. Le thème dominant entre 1919 et 1949 est la position des organisations catholiques par rapport aux autorités polonaises. La question pousse le bloc catholique à lancer, dès 1927, l'idée d'une fédération des sociétés polonaises de France, où son rôle serait déterminant. De 1919 à 1939, les municipalités rémoises sont marquées par la domination des radicaux, alliés d'abord à la SFIO puis ensuite à la droite et largement dominées par la personnalité de Paul Marchandeau. Après 1945, la situation apparaît beaucoup plus fluctuante. De 1945 à 1959 on a affaire à des municipalités fragiles qui voient se succéder à leur tête successivement un communiste, un RPF, un radical et deux MRP. C’est là le résultat cumulé du scrutin proportionnel et de l’isolement du PCF qui fait que les majorités ne peuvent se constituer qu’entre les partis non communistes aux rivalités incessantes. Mais les municipalités, ce sont aussi des individus. Deux générations d’édiles peuvent être individualisées. Celle de l’entre-deux-guerres qui vieillit progressivement en fonctions, sans se renouveler, et celle de la Quatrième République qui connaît un renouvellement plus important et apparaît davantage en phase avec la société rémoise des années 1950<br>From 1919 to 1939, the municipalities of Reims were marked by the domination of radical party allied to the SFIO and then to the right and largely dominated by the personality of Paul Marchandeau. After 1945 the situation appeared much more variable. From 1945 to 1959 we are dealing with fragile municipalities headed successively by a communist, an RPF, a radical and two members of MRP. This is the cumulative result of proportional representation and isolation of the FPC which led to the fact that majorities could be formed only between the non-communist parties in which was incessant rivalry.. But municipalities are represented by individuals. Two generations of councilors can be individualized. This study focuses on describing and analyzing monetary policy in Czechoslovakia between 1919 and 1929. Initially devoted to theoretical definition of monetary policy and approaches to the nature of money. The analytical part describes the most important events of the decade in terms of monetary policy. Particular emphasis is placed primarily on monetary reform, which made Alois Rašín in 1919. The work also describes a change in direction from the deflationary policy to monetary stabilization, on which has the largest merit Engliš, second significant figure in the Czechoslovak monetary policy in those years. As Rašín and Engliš contributed significantly to successful monetary developments in postwar Czechoslovakia. Rašin deal with strong inflationary pressures and gave rise to solid and credible crown. Engliš is behind the most significant economic boom in the history of republic.

Romain Rolland et Gaston Thiesson se rencontrent en août 1912 en Suisse mais leur amitié se renforce lors des deux séjours du peintre dans ce pays durant la première Guerre mondiale, entre septembre 1915 et avril 1916. Sur les 166 lettres présentées ici, 86 lettres sont échangées durant cette période. La venue de Thiesson, au moment où Rolland décide de se retirer de la mêlée, est un réconfort pour l’écrivain attaqué par la presse nationaliste qui l’accuse de défaitisme à la suite de ses articles parus au Journal de Genève. Rolland voit en lui un homme courageux et dévoué qui, après la parution du libelle de Henri Massis Romain Rolland contre la France, veut recueillir avec l’aide des journalistes Jacques Mesnil et Georges Pioch des témoignages de soutien à paraître dans Les Hommes du Jour. L’engagement du peintre pour la défense des idées pacifistes de l’auteur de Au-dessus de la mêlée, est semée d’embûches (les réactions de P.-H. Loyson notamment) et la parution des témoignages est un succès en demi-teinte. Touché par cet homme au cœur tendre, dont les mésaventures le remplissent de compassion, Rolland exprime dans ses lettres sa foi dans les forces de l’art et de la bonté. Après son installation au bord du lac Léman, Thiesson séjourne à Montana avec le poète Pierre Jean Jouve. Après un voyage à travers la Suisse, il rentre en France où il meurt trois ans plus tard. Cette correspondance révèle la volonté exigeante de Romain Rolland de mettre en accord une pensée, une vie et un art pour mieux les opposer tous ensemble aux forces destructrices de la haine, dans la recherche héroïque et périlleuse d’une entente entre les êtres et d’une harmonie entre les peuples<br>Romain Rolland and Gaston Thiesson first met in August 1912 in Switzerland but their friendship got stronger when the painter happened to spend some time in that country, during World War I, twice between September 1915 and April 1916. Among the 166 letters presented here, 86 were exchanged during that period. Thiesson’s coming to support him, at the very time when Rolland decided to retire, was very comforting for the writer who was being attacked by the nationalist press that accused him of defeatism after he had published some leading articles in the Journal de Genève. Rolland saw him as a brave and devoted man who, after Henri Massis published his pamphlet Romain Rolland contre la France, wanted to gather, with the journalists Jacques Mesnil et Georges Pioch’s help, expressions of support to be published in Les Hommes du Jour. The painter’s commitment in favour of the author of Au-dessus de la mêlée, is full of ups and downs (P.-H. Loyson’s reactions particularly) and the publishing of the testimonies a half tone success. Moved by this soft-hearted man, whose misadventures fill him with compassion, Rolland expressed, in his letters, his faith in the strength of Art and kindness. After settling near the Lac Leman, Thiesson stayed in Montana for a while with poet Pierre Jean Jouve. After travelling around Switzerland, he went back to France, and died there three years later. This correspondence gives away Romain Rollands’s demanding will that a way of thinking has to match a way of living and a way of seeing Art but then he wants to oppose them all to the destroying forces of hatred, in the heroic and perilous search of meeting of minds between people and harmony between peoples

L'oeuvre de journaliste de Jean Guéhenno (1890-1978), déjà étudiée pour les périodes d'exercice à Europe (1929-1936) et à Vendredi (1935-1938), mérite d'être appréciée sur l'ensemble de cet entre-deux-guerres, pour la vision de l'histoire qu'elle propose et parce qu'on y voit se dessiner la thématique fondatrice de Caliban, qui est une thématique de l'affranchissement. Elle épouse étroitement les préoccupations de l'époque dont elle est un miroir : elle témoigne de la liquidation de la guerre, tant au plan diplomatique qu'au plan spirituel, mais elle retrace aussi l'engagement et les difficultés d'un pacifiste confronté à la montée du fascisme et du nazisme, à la guerre d'Éthiopie, à la guerre d'Espagne et aux difficultés du Front populaire, vécu comme l'avènement messianique d'une lueur à l'Ouest. L'âpreté de l'engagement politique (il est contraint de céder du terrain sur le pacifisme juridique wilsonien ; il vit durement les contradictions du soutien à une formation politique pendant la guerre d'Espagne ; il répugne, par solidarité, à combattre frontalement le bolchévisme, mais doit dénoncer les procès de Moscou), n'en fait pas un partisan aveugle ; cet humaniste plaide pour l'individu, non pour l'individualisme. Cette oeuvre souligne la présence chez lui d'une mystique qui transcende les objectifs politiques immédiats, et met en lumière le talent du journaliste de combat.

Cette etude a pour objectif d'analyser l'engagement politique d'une avant-garde artistique et litteraire, le surrealisme. La demarche surrealiste est en soi politique, leur volonte de "transformer le monde" et de "change la vie" suppose une esthetique et une ethique revolutionnaires qui les orientent du cote des mouvements politiques revolutionnaires. Les debuts du surrealisme sont marques par une influence libertaire : la revolte individuelle est le ferment contestataire du mouvement. Leur politisation au milieu des annees vingt, qui se traduit par un engagement aux cotes du parti communiste, peut s'analyser sous l'angle d'une nouvelle problematique : les surrealistes entendent participer a l'elaboration de la ligne culturelle du parti cummuniste et lutter pour obtenir la reconnaissance du surrealisme comme esthetique revolutionnaire. L'echec de cet engagement ne signifie pas, apres la seconde guerre mondiale, la fin de leur engagement politique. Le soutien des surrealistes aux mouvements trotskyste puis anarchiste, leurmobilisation a l'occasion d'evenements tels que la guerre d'espagne, le mouvement de "citoyens du monde", la guerre d'algerie ou encore la lutte en faveur des objecteurs de conscience font de ces annees une periode politiquement tres active<br>The aim of this thesis is the study of the political engagement of an artistic and literary vanguard : surrealism. The surrealist thought is itself political, its will of "transformer le monde" and "changer la vie" presumes a revolutionary aesthetics and ethics which lead them towards political revolutionary movements. Their politicization in the twenties years, towards the communist party can be analyse through a new problematic : the surrealists want to take part in the cultural line of the communist party and they want take part in the cultural line of the communist party and they want to gain the recognition of surrealism as a revolutionary esthetics. The falure of this engagement doesn't mean the end of their political engagement. Their support of the troskyst and anarchist movements, their mobilization in favour of some events like the spanish war, the "citoyens du monde" movement, the algerian war or their struggle for conscientious objection transrorm these years in a very active peroid

Cette thèse vise à contribuer à la connaissance de l’École des Hautes Études Urbaines (1919-1924) et de l’Institut d’Urbanisme de l’Université Paris (1924-1919). Elle explore notamment les travaux de fin d’études, études menées entre le début des années 1920 et les années 1970. Ce corpus de travaux de fin d’études, c’est-à-dire, les thèses, font l’objet de la recherche de ce travail. Les thèses sont d’ailleurs l’aboutissement d’un parcours plus large qui mène à l’obtention d’un diplôme délivré par l’Université de Paris et qui prend le nom de « Diplôme d’étude spéciales d’Urbanisme ». Notre contribution cherche à rendre compte de la nature des exercices pédagogiques de fin d’études soutenus de 1922 à 1972, des profils des diplômés en urbanisme du XXe siècle et des relations entre les cours et les systèmes d’enseignement dans le champ particulier qu’est l’urbanisme. Elle a été réalisée dans différentes archives de Paris, mais principalement à partir des ressources de la Bibliothèque Poëte et Sellier, fonds historique de l’École d’Urbanisme de Paris (EUP), connu sous le nom de Fonds ancien de l’IUP.Les thèses étaient un produit spécifique de l’EHEU/IUUP et constituent un corps théorique essentiel et de référence qui donne des indices sur l'histoire de l'urbanisme en France et dans divers pays d'Amérique, d'Europe, d'Afrique et d'Asie, car, d'une part, elles s'inscrivent dans une longue période d'évolution des doctrines de l'urbanisme et, d'autre part, elles ont été réalisées par des étudiants venant d'horizons différents, qui, au fil du temps, ont tissé un réseau complexe de circulation de savoirs, de connaissances et de savoir-faire<br>The aim of the present thesis is to contribute to the knowledge of l’Ecole des Hautes Études Urbaines [School of Advanced Urban Studies] (1919-1924) and l’Institut d'Urbanisme de l'Université Paris [Urban Planning Institute of the University of Paris] (1924 -1919), exploring in particular the completion studies carried out between the early 1920s and the 1970s. The subject of study of this research comprises this body of works, that is, the urban planning thesis. Indeed, the theses are the result of extensive studies that lead to a certificate named «Diplôme d'étude spéciales d'Urbanisme» ["Certificate of special study of Urban Planning], delivered by l’Université de Paris.Our contribution aims to show the nature of the completion pedagogical exercises carried out and examined in these two institutions between 1922 and 1972 and, at the same time, to show the profiles of these certificates in urban planning during the 20th century and the relations between the subjects and the education systems in that particular area of urban planning. This research is a partial biography on the Italian political leader Riccardo Lombardi (Regalbuto, Enna 1901 – Rome 1984). The figure of Lombardi is studied both from the political and the intellectual point of view. I particularly deepen the first phase, not very studied till today, of his career, which goes from 1919 to 1949, from the young militancy in the left wing of the Catholic Party to his participation to the events of the Resistance and of the second post-war in the Partito d’Azione and then in the Socialist Italian Party. Thanks to the analysis of many sources both from the press and from the archives I try to underline Lombardi’s peculiarity in comparison with the principal tendencies of the Left in Italy and, at the same time, his irreducibility to an ideal type of the Left which is too often generically seen as “social-democratic” or “reformist”.
The first chapter is focused on the political commitment in the Catholic Trade Unions and in the little Labour Christian Party, which he founded in 1921 with Romano Cocchi and Giuseppe Speranzini. Then, I analyse his contribution in the underground struggle against the Fascist regime with the Communist Party and also with the group of Giustizia e Libertà.
The second chapter talks about his vicissitudes during the Resistance and the second postwar. In these years Lombardi had an important role in the program and in the strategy of the Partito d’Azione, also because he was considered a mediator between the socialist and the liberal wing of the party. After participating in the fallen negotiation for the surrender of Mussolini in April 1945, he became prefect of Milan. At the end of the year, after the fall of Parri’s government, he took part in the first government led by De Gasperi as Transport Minister.
The third chapter is dedicated to the period of the Constituent Assembly. In July 1946 Lombardi became the leader of Partito d’Azione. I underline his political economy program, his opposition to the collaboration of socialists and communists with the Democrazia Cristiana, seen as a conservative force, and his attempt to promote the renewal of the Socialist Party.
The thesis ends with the beginning of the socialist militancy of Lombardi, from October 1947 to the defeat of his political line in May 1949<br>Questa ricerca consiste in una parziale biografia del leader politico italiano Riccardo Lombardi (Regalbuto, Enna, 1901 – Roma 1984). La figura di Lombardi viene studiata dal punto di vista tanto dell’azione politica quanto dell’attività intellettuale. Ci si focalizza soprattutto sulla prima fase, finora poco conosciuta, del suo impegno politico, che va dal 1919 al 1949, ovvero dalla militanza giovanile nella sinistra popolare alla sua partecipazione alle vicende della Resistenza e del secondo dopoguerra nel Partito d’Azione, sino al suo ingresso nel Partito socialista. Attraverso l’analisi di numerose fonti sia a stampa che d’archivio si cerca di mettere in luce la peculiarità di Lombardi rispetto ai filoni principali della sinistra in Italia e, al tempo stesso, la sua irriducibilità ad un modello di sinistra troppo spesso genericamente inteso come “socialdemocratico” o “riformista”.
Il primo capitolo si concentra sulla militanza nelle organizzazioni sindacali di ispirazione cattolica, nel Partito popolare e nel piccolo Partito cristiano del lavoro, che contribuisce a fondare nel 1921 insieme a personalità come Romano Cocchi e Giuseppe Speranzini. Successivamente si analizza il suo impegno nella lotta clandestina contro il regime fascista, condotta prima insieme ai comunisti e poi nel gruppo di Giustizia e Libertà.
Nel secondo capitolo si ricostruiscono le vicende che lo vedono protagonista nella Resistenza e nell’immediato dopoguerra. Lombardi svolge in questi anni un ruolo rilevante nella definizione del programma e della strategia del Partito d’Azione, anche perché viene considerato un mediatore tra l’anima liberale e quella socialista del partito. Dopo aver partecipato alle trattative per la resa di Mussolini nell’aprile del 1945, Lombardi assume la carica di prefetto di Milano, che tiene sino alla caduta del governo Parri e alla formazione del nuovo governo De Gasperi, nel quale entra come ministro dei trasporti.
Il terzo capitolo è dedicato al periodo della Costituente. Lombardi ricopre per un anno, dal luglio 1946 al giugno 1947, la carica di segretario del Partito d’Azione. Viene messo in evidenza l’impegno di Lombardi a favore di una politica economica, la sua critica della politica di collaborazione di socialisti e comunisti con la Democrazia cristiana e il suo tentativo di promuovere un rinnovamento del Partito socialista.
Il lavoro termina con l’inizio della militanza socialista di Lombardi, dall’entrata nel partito (ottobre 1947) sino alla sconfitta della sua mozione politica un anno e mezzo dopo. Dal luglio 1948 Lombardi assume la direzione del quotidiano del partito nei difficili mesi della “restaurazione liberista”, dello scoppio della “guerra fredda” e della battaglia contro l’entrata dell’Italia nel Patto atlantico, e difende una linea che pur rifiutando la prosecuzione del Fronte con i comunisti, si oppone fermamente al governo De Gasperi e respinge l’entrata dell’Italia nel Patto atlantico

Dissatisfied with social, hygienic, and aesthetic aspects of the recent housing construction, between 1908 and 1919 the Amsterdam municipal council approved 87 housing projects to be built by housing societies and the municipality itself under the auspices of the 1902 Housing Act. In the attempt to improve housing design by public means and for collective benefit, the municipality drew on expertise from a variety of professions: medicine, architecture, law, and social work. However, the professionalization of housing design generated a number of conflicts: struggles between professions for authority, disagreements between laymen and experts, between middle and working class values, and between political and cultural progressives and conservatives. A close investigation of the first 87 housing projects, the societies which built them, and the experts who shaped them, reveals fundamental dilemmas in the professionalization of housing design. Experts had to perform two potentially conflicting tasks: 1) to advance their profession and its discipline; 2) to serve the collective needs of a socially diverse society. In the case of the plan, housing professionals attempted to standardize the type, but the diversity of views represented by the various housing societies succeeded to a limited extent in expressing a pluralism of forms. In the case of the facade, the strength and autonomy of the architectural profession succeeded in using housing design as an opportunity to advance the, discipline through the development of an innovative style, but the commitment to a partisan aesthetic position which was necessary for that development conflicted with the government's requirement for official neutrality. This thesis examines the 'healthy-hungry thirties' debate from a Scottish perspective by analysing public health in Glasgow between 1919 and 1939. The extent to which British health improved or deteriorated in the period between the two World Wars is a point of contention among historians. Traditionally, 'optimist' historians such as Stevenson, Aldcroft and Winter have argued that mortality and morbidity rates improved, while 'pessimists' like Mitchell and Webster argue that the economic recession impacted adversely upon health. More recently however, writers like Jenkinson and Thompson have emphasised the importance of considering this debate from a regional perspective and on the intricacies and complexities of public health statistics according to different social criteria. Eschewing the optimist- pessimist visions of the Depression that dominate the literature, this study focuses upon highlighting divergences in experience according to variables such as location, social class, e mployment position, age, marital status and gender. It explores the role of individual agency and emphasises the multiplicity of social, economic and cultural exchanges which fashioned health experiences. By analysing both qualitative and quantitative material from sources including medical journals, parliamentary papers, newspaper articles, contemporary literature, autobiographies and oral testimonies, this research suggests that a multi-dimensional, comparative approach to explaining public health during the interwar years is most appropriate. Statistics can be interpreted to support either historical stance and a closer analysis reveals diverging health experiences according to a number of variables. By evaluating public health records and the popular perceptions of interwar Glaswegians, it is shown that Glasgow was an 'unhealthy city' as historians propose. However, this research argues that health experiences were complex, were characterise explained in terms of inequalities between and within individual groups of the population, rather than conclusive improvements or deteriorations in health.

A la veille de la premiere guerre mondiale, le cameroun est une colonie allemande de 750 000 km2 avec une population de 2,5 a 3 millions d'habitants. La colonie est ouverte au sud-ouest sur l'ocean atlantique, a l'ouest sur le nigeria, limitee a l'est par l'oubangui-chari, au nord par le lac tchad et le territoire du tchad et au sud par le gabon et le mouni espagnol. Des aout 1914, les troupes de l'aef (afrique equatoriale francaise), commandees par le general aymerich s'emparent de bonga et zinga. Un corps expeditionnaire franco-britannique prend pied sur la cote et occupe douala, edea, bouea et victoria. Dans le nord, le colonel largeau lance lui aussi ses troupes a l'assaut des postes allemands. Garoua est investie et kousseri dans l'extreme nord est occupe. Partout des succes sont remportes, mais ces succes restent sans lendemain, il convient de coordonner les efforts du corps expeditionnaire et des troupes de l'aef. C'est le but de la conference interalliee qui s'ouvre a douala le 12 mars 1915. Cependant, les operations du printemps-ete n'ont pas apporte un grand changement, la force vive des allemands reste entiere, d'ou l'idee d'une nouvelle conference interalliee tenue a douala les 25 et 26 aout 1915. Yaounde devient l'objectif unique donne a toutes les troupes alliees. Le 2 janvier 1916, les troupes anglaises entrent a yaounde; elles seront suivies par les troupes de l'aef. Les allemands se refugient en territoire neutre de la guinee espagnole, la garnison de mora se rend le 18 fevrier. La france et l'angleterre, apres avoir envisage un condominium, se partage le cameroun par l'accord du 4 mars 1916, la france obtient les 2 3 du cameroun et l'angleterre, une bande de territoire en bordure de la nigeria. Le traite de versailles ne fait qu'enteriner le partage deja effectue, la societe des nations place le cameroun sous le nouveau regime du mandat international, le cameroun devient un territoire sous mandats francais et britannique.

La peinture sous l'influence occidentale en chine entre 1919 et 1949 a pu etre appele "occidentalisme". Non pas pour son interpretation totale de la peinture occidentale moderne, mais parce que les exigences, soit le realisme renovateur, soit le formalisme ou soit la popularisation de l'art, se presentent essentiellement comme une reponse au defi occidental d'une modernisation de la peinture, de la pensee et de la societe sur une base anti-feodale et anti-imperialiste, afion que l'expression et la nature de l'art soient etroitement liees aux besoins de la societe. Le fait que leurs oeuvres d'art correspondent aux besoins de la societe temoigne de deux choses : d'une part, l'etat d'alienation du monde intellectuel chinois dans une epoque de desarroi ou tout le passe est en cause, et ou la societe est en pleine decomposition sous la pression economique, lapolitique et culturelle de l'occident moderne; d'autre part, la science sociale qui permet de demolir le systeme de mystification de l'esthetique spirituelle et contemplative du neo-confucianisme<br>The painting under occidental influence in china between 1919 nd 1949 was not formed to interpret modern painting of the west world but was derived from the internal calls of the society. It reflected renovated realism, formalism, or popularization of arts during that period and was, essentially, response to challenges from the west. The movement was founded on anti-feudalism and antiimperialism and represented a trend of painting, philosophical, and social modernization. Its artistics essence and characteristics were tightly connected with the contemporary needs of chinese society. Art works that corresponded to social calls reflected two thoughts : on the one hand, they were chinese intellectual's alienate status from the chaotic era and collapsing tradition resulting from press of western economics, politivs, and culture; on the other hand, they revealed artists' awareness of the development of social science and, consequently, formed a force to destroy the system of esthetic mystification and spirit of neo-confucianism
