The Brazilian fauna of Lestidae contains two genera (Archilestes Selys, 1862 and Lestes Leach in Brewster, 1815) with 14 species, many of which are poorly defined and/or known only by primary literature. To improve the knowledge of the Brazilian species of the genus Lestes we examined 97 specimens pertaining to 11 of the 13 described species. Additionally, a new species is described here in honor to Prof. Dr. Paulo De Marco Júnior: Lestes demarcoi (Holotype and Allotype: Brazil: Amazonas, Manaus, Reserva Adolpho Ducke, Acará trail, 02º55’46” S & 59º58’22” W, 62 m, 13.iv.2009, collected in tandem, U.G. Neiss leg. and deposited in FAAL). Diagnostic illustrations of all species are provided. Color photographs of live individuals of Lestes dichrostigma Calvert, 1909, Lestes forficula Rambur, 1842 and Lestes paulistus Calvert, 1909 are also presented.

Abstract This is the first review of life cycles of trematodes with parthenitae and larvae in freshwater gastropods from forest biocoenoses of Ukrainian Polissia. Altogether 26 trematode species from 14 families were found circulating in 13 ways in molluscs from reservoirs connected with forest ecosystems of the region. Three-host life cycle is typical of 18 trematode species, two-host life cycle has found in 7 species, and four-host cycles has found in one species. Alaria alata Goeze, 1782, has three-host (Shults, 1972) and four-host cycles. Opisthioglyphe ranae (Froehlich, 1791) can change three-host life cycle to two-host cycle replacing the second intermediate host (Niewiadomska et al., 2006) with the definitive host. Species with primary two-host life cycle belong to Notocotylidae Lühe, 1909, Paramphistomidae Fischoeder, 1901 and Fasciolidae Railliet, 1758 families. Trematodes with three-host cycle have variable second intermediate hosts, including invertebrates and aquatic or amphibious vertebrates. Definitive hosts of trematodes are always vertebrates from different taxonomic groups. The greatest diversity of life cycles is typical for trematodes of birds. Trematodes in the forest biocoenoses of Ukrainian Polissia infect birds in six ways, mammals in three, amphibians in four, and reptiles in one way. The following species have epizootic significance: Liorchis scotiae (Willmott, 1950); Parafasciolopsis fasciolaemorpha Ejsmont, 1932; Notocotylus seineti Fuhrmann, 1919; Catatropis verrucosa (Frölich, 1789) Odhner, 1905; Cotylurus cornutus (Rudolphi, 1808); Echinostoma revolutum (Fröhlich, 1802) Dietz, 1909; Echinoparyphium aconiatum Dietz, 1909; Echinoparyphium recurvatum (Linstow, 1873); Hypoderaeum conoideum (Bloch, 1782) Dietz, 1909; Paracoenogonimus ovatus Kasturada, 1914; Alaria alata Goeze, 1782.

Parafia Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła w Spring Valley, Ill., została założona 30 września 1891 r., a nowo wybudowany drewniany kościół został poświęcony 14 sierpnia 1892 r. Na początku do tej parafii należało około 200 rodzin Polaków i Litwinów. Po kilku latach Litwini wznieśli własny kościół. W 1901 r. Polacy wybudowali szkołę i plebanię. 17 grudnia 1906 r. pożar doszczętnie zniszczył świątynię. Ocalała plebania i szkoła. – ks. Michał Peża, od 1900 r. – ks. Antoni Drewnicki, od 1903 r. – ks. Marcin Piechota, od 1908 r. – ks. Hieronim Błażyński i od 1909 r. – ks. Józef Cieśla.

Resumo:
The generic taxonomy and host specialization of Xenidae have been understood differently by previous authors. Although the recent generic classification has implied a specialization on the level of host families or subfamilies, the hypothesis that each xenid genus is specialized to a single host genus was also previously postulated. A critical evaluation of the classification of the genera of Xenidae is provided here based on morphology in accordance with results of recent molecular phylogenetic studies. External features of the female cephalothoraces and male cephalothecae were documented in detail with different techniques. Diagnoses and descriptions are presented for all 13 delimited genera. The earliest diverging genera are usually well characterized by unique features, whereas deeply nested genera are usually characterized by combinations of characters. Three new genera are described: Sphecixenosgen. nov., Tuberoxenosgen. nov., and Deltoxenosgen. nov. Five previously described genera are removed from synonymy: Tachytixenos Pierce, 1911, stat. res.; Brasixenos Kogan & Oliveira, 1966, stat. res.; Leionotoxenos Pierce, 1909, stat. res.; Eupathocera Pierce, 1908, stat. res.; and Macroxenos Schultze, 1925, stat. res. One former subgenus is elevated to generic rank: Nipponoxenos Kifune & Maeta, 1975, stat. res.Monobiaphila Pierce, 1909, syn. nov. and Montezumiaphila Brèthes, 1923, syn. nov. are recognized as junior synonyms of Leionotoxenos Pierce, 1909, stat. res.Ophthalmochlus Pierce, 1908, syn. nov., Homilops Pierce, 1908, syn. nov., Sceliphronechthrus Pierce, 1909, syn. nov., and Ophthalmochlus (Isodontiphila) Pierce, 1919, syn. nov. are recognized as junior synonyms of Eupathocera Pierce, 1908, stat. res. A preliminary checklist of 119 described species of Xenidae with information on their hosts and distribution is provided. The following 14 species are recognized as valid and restituted from synonymy: Tachytixenos indicus Pierce, 1911, stat. res.; Brasixenos acinctus Kogan & Oliveira, 1966, stat. res.; Brasixenos araujoi (Oliveira & Kogan, 1962), stat. res.; Brasixenos bahiensis Kogan & Oliveira, 1966, stat. res.; Brasixenos brasiliensis Kogan & Oliveira, 1966, stat. res.; Brasixenos fluminensis Kogan & Oliveria, 1966, stat. res.; Brasixenos myrapetrus Trois, 1988, stat. res.; Brasixenos zikani Kogan & Oliveira, 1966, stat. res.; Leionotoxenos hookeri Pierce, 1909, stat. res.; Leionotoxenos jonesi Pierce, 1909, stat. res.; Leionotoxenos louisianae Pierce, 1909, stat. res.; Eupathocera luctuosae Pierce, 1911, stat. res.; Eupathocera lugubris Pierce, 1909, stat. res.; Macroxenos piercei Schultze, 1925, stat. res. Ophthalmochlus duryi Pierce, 1908, nomen nudum and Eupathocera lugubris Pierce, 1908, nomen nudum are recognized as nomina nuda and therefore unavailable in zoological nomenclature. The species diversity of Xenidae probably remains poorly known: the expected number of species is at least twice as high as the number presently described.

Currently, an alien fish species, the silver Prussian carp Carassius gibelio is widespread in almost all reservoirs of Belarus due to its high competitiveness. The introduction of silver Prussian carps in commercial reservoirs of the Republic caused significant replacement of the native species, the crucian carp. Potentially, alien helminth species introduced in water bodies by the silver Prussian carp have affected the crucian carp population. The helminth fauna of the silver Prussian carp in Belarussian water bodies is represented by 16 species: 1 nematode species (genus Philometroides Yamaguti, 1935), 2 cestode species (1 of the genus Neogryporhynchus Baeret Bona, 1960, and 1 of the genus Khawia Hsu, 1935); 6 monogeneas (4 of the genus Dactylogyrus Diesing, 1850; 1 of the genus Gyrodactylus Nordmann, 1832, and 1 of the genus Diplozoon Nordmann, 1832); 7 trematode species (1 of the genus Rhipidocotyle Diesing, 1858, 2 of the genus Posthodiplostomum Dubois, 1936, 1 of the genus Diplostomum Nordmann, 1832, 1 of the genus Ichthyocotylurus Odening, 1969, 1 of the genus Paracoenogonimus Katsurada, 1914, and 1 of the genus Tylodelphys Diesing, 1850). The helminth fauna of the crucian carp is represented by 13 species: 1 acanthocephalan species (genus Acanthocephalus Koelreuter, 1771); 1 nematode species (genus Camallanus Railliet et Henry, 1915); 3 cestode species (1 of the genus Caryophyllaeus Gmelin, 1790, and 2 of the genus Khawia Hsu, 1935); 3 monogeneas (1 of the genus Dactylogyrus Diesing, 1850, 1 of the genus Gyrodactylus Nordmann, 1832, and 1 of the genus Diplozoon Nordmann, 1832); and 5 trematode species (1 of the genus Echinochasmus Dietz, 1909, 1 of the genus Paracoenogonimus Katsurada, 1914, 1 of the genus Tylodelphys Diesing, 1850, 1 of the genus Allocreadium Looss, 1900, and 1 of the genus Phyllodistomum Braun, 1899). The helminth fauna had low similarity (4 species) in the silver Prussian carp when compared with the crucian carp.

The literature related to microwave and ultrasound working simultaneously is rather infrequent. The reason is obvious: microwave irradiation is of electromagnetic origin while ultrasound is a mechanical vibration energy. Moreover, the optimal settings for ultrasound propagation throughout a reaction media do not coincide with the conditions required for application of microwaves. Therefore, the challenge is to find a way to best combination of these sources of energy into one apparatus to allow researchers to take advantage of the features of each technology. The oldest paper describing such a combination – microwave and ultrasound is having just 20 years [1] and describe an apparatus which uses a probe system delivering ultrasound through decalin to a vessel holding the reagents dipped in the MW cavity (fig. 1a). Another possibility using a normal MW oven is described by Peng [2] (fig.1b), but this setup is having radiation leakage problems and needs a proper protection. Ragaini et all proposed another type of setup [3] (fig. 1c), not easy to reproduce, but describing calibration and parameters which show an additive increase of thermal energy delivered when MW and US works simultaneous. Insert here uploaded pictures Figure 1. Some MW-US simultaneous setups Few years ago, Cravotto and Cintas [4], disccussed for the first time the potential of using MW and US in sequential or tandem setups. Their paper discuss all possible setups for using mostly glass probe for devlivery of ultrasonic energy or classical setup (fig. 1a). Slowly the concept gain popularity and the paper of Lionelly and Mason [5] prompts to the potential industrial applications, naming the combination of microwave with ultrasound a hybrid technology. The challenge in using this “hybrid technology” is to find a vesatile and reproducible apparatus able to deliver both microwave and ultrasound at a full controlable parameters. In our laboratory we have and use the setup like in the fig. 1a, but the ultrasonic energy is delivered by an ultrasonic cleaning device attached to microwave device (SAIREM Miniflow 200SS). To achieve the above mentioned outcome launched a project to build a device which could work with MW and US in tandem (as Cravotto mentioned [4]) using an US device able to deliver more than a single ultrasonic frequency at a full controlled power. It is our believe that such a device could significantly contribute to MW-US tandem equipment development. Based on our expertise and potential proposed interaction of US with reagents [6] we will investigate the influence (if any) of ultrasound upon MW field. In this paper we will present the earlier results of “Tandem Microwave Ultrasound” energy influence on chemical reagents. References 1. Lagha, A., et al., Analusis, 1999. 27(5): p. 452-457. 2. Background: Dietary practices are an aspect of dietary quality that indicates general nutritional adequacy. Lack of diversified diet is a severe problem in the developing world, where diet are predominantly starchy staples with few animal products, seasonal fruits and vegetables. The nutritional status of a woman during pregnancy is important as a suboptimal diet impact negatively on the health of the mother, and the newborn. There is limited knowledge in the area of dietary practices and nutritional status of pregnancy factors affecting it among pregnant women despite evidence showing that maternal nutrition has important direct and /or indirect consequences for all other age cohorts. The study aimed to asses factors affecting dietary practices and nutritional status of pregnant adolescents. Method: Cross sectional analytic design was used and the study was carried out in Ol’Lessos village. A Sample size of 129 pregnant women was targeted with the first respondent being randomly selected and thereafter systemic sampling was used until the required sample was reached. Mid upper arm (MUAC) of the left arm of the respondents of the women were measured to determine the nutritional status. Data were collected using researcher administered questionnaires and focus group discussion guide. Data collected using 24-hour recall was analyzed by Nutrisurvey. Results: There were significant differences in the mean macronutrients and micronutrients with regard to the dds where respondents with a higher DDS (.> six) were more likely to have a higher macro and micronutrient intake compared with those who had a lower. The mean energy intake was 1909 Kcal +630 which is below the Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA)of 2400 kcal for pregnant women. Based on MUAC cut offs, 31.7 percent were malnourished (MUAC< 21.0 CM) while 68.3 percent of the respondents were normal (MUAC >21.0cm). MUAC was positively correlated with the socio-economic status. Based on the WHO cut offs,73.6 percent were anaemic. Regression showed that the age of the mother and the numbers of births were significant predictors of the MUAC of the pregnant women (p=0.001). Conclusion: It’s is recommended that guidelines for nutrition and diets be carried out through practical demonstrations in the community and health facilities. The findings of the study may be used by Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation (MOPHS) and other organizations to promote and implement programs aimed at improving dietary practices and nutrition status among pregnant in the county.
