Mulberry is a dioecious species but, is usually cultivated as low bush or dwarf tree form by repeated pruning. Apart from its importance in silkworm rearing, it is also valued for its delicious fruits, medicinal properties in infusions, and ornamental shade tree. The conservation of mulberry genetic resources for future use and their subsequent usage in plant breeding are two critical areas of action in any genetic resource management programme. The current study used morphological, reproductive, anatomical, biochemical, propagation, growth, and yield variables to know the potential value of 22 mulberry accessions. Based on multiple trait analysis, the accessions MI-0946, MI-0945, MI-0953, MI-0948, MI-0935, MI-0948, MI-0936 and MI-0952 were identified as top performers for anatomy, propagation, biochemical, growth and yield parameters. These accessions may serve as potential parents for the future breeding program.

Mulberry plants have wide range of variations in characters in view of its adaptability to cross pollination with no inter-specific reproduction barrier rendering it a heterozygous species. Every plant being different from the other in natural population, this great diversity makes it difficult to gather information and carry out studies on effect of different edaphic factors on the expression of genotypic characters for adjudging the variations. In lieu of this known diversity for posterity, the collection of mulberry genotypes from diverse genetic sources, their conservation, evaluation and consequent documentation is of prime importance. In the present study, 69 mulberry accessions were characterized for morphology, anatomy, and reproductive parameters. Evaluation for propagation, growth and yield characters were also carried out. Based on multiple trait analysis, 14 top performing accessions viz., MI-0879, MI-0882, MI-0908, MI-0931, MI-0907, MI-0940, MI-0881, MI-0941, MI0892, MI-0913, MI-0937, MI-0934, MI-0865, MI-0886 were identified. These accessions could serve as resources for further evaluation aimed at trait-specific crop improvement.

From December 1987 to February 1988 using the UTR-2 radiotelescope, we recorded the emissions of PSR 0823+26 and PSR 0943+10 at 25 and 16.7 MHz. Both pulsars are of considerable interest; PSR 0943+10 is one of several pulsars having two emission modes (Suleymanova and Izvekova 1984), and PSR 0823+26 has interpulse emission (Backer, Boriakoff, and Manchester 1973, Downs 1979) and dispersion measure, 19.466 pc cm–3. It is known that using the Arecibo telescope at 25 MHz one could succeed in recording only PSR 0919+06 with DM = 27.25 pc cm–3 (Phillips and Wolszczan 1989, 1990). In these papers, the presence of the two modes of PSR 0943+10 emission was confirmed.

AbstractPulsar 0943+10 demonstrates very obviously that the mode switching phenomenon includes simultaneous and dramatic alterations of all principal properties of radioemission, i.e. intensity, polarization (both linear and circular) and drifting behaviour of individual pulses over a broad frequency range. On the basis of observations of PSR 0943+10 at the frequencies 40 and 430 MHz, a complete scenario of the transition process between two modes of radiation has been revealed. The ‘pre-switching transition process’ is found which manifests itself as attenuation of the pulse intensity of the current mode during hundreds of the pulse periods preceding a switch.

2566 Background: Both RAS/RAF/MEK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways are deregulated in many tumor types. Targeting both pathways may be more efficacious than targeting either pathway alone. In preclinical models, concurrent administration of GDC‑0973, a potent, selective, MEK1/2 inhibitor and GDC-0941, a potent class I PI3K inhibitor, shows improved efficacy compared to either agent alone dosed continuously or intermittently. Methods: A phase Ib dose-escalation study with 3+3 design was initiated in patients (pts) with advanced solid tumors to evaluate the safety and pharmacokinetics (PK) of oral dosing of GDC-0973 and GDC-0941. Pts received: concurrent GDC-0973 + GDC-0941 once daily (qd) on a 21 day on/7 day off (21/7) schedule; intermittent GDC-0973 on Days 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18 of a 28 day cycle + GDC-0941 qd on a 21/7 schedule (MEK int); or GDC-0973 + GDC-0941 qd on a 7 day on /7 day off schedule (7/7). Starting doses were 20 mg GDC-0973 + 80 mg GDC-0941 (21/7), 100 mg GDC-0973 + 130 mg GDC-0941 (MEK int); 40 mg GDC-0973 + 130 mg GDC-0941 (7/7). Serial plasma PK samples, FDG-PET, and CT scans were obtained. Results: 78 pts have enrolled. DLTs were G3 lipase (n=1), G4 CPK elevation (n=1). Compared to the 21/7 MTD of 40 mg GDC-0973 + 100 mg GDC-0941, higher doses of GDC-0973 + GDC-0941 were tolerated on the MEK int schedule. Overall, adverse events related to the study drug combination in ≥ 20% pts were diarrhea, rash, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, decreased appetite, dysgeusia, and elevated CPK. Preliminary analysis indicated PK of GDC-0973 and GDC-0941 are not altered when dosed in combination. Of 46 evaluable pts, 26 had an FDG-PET partial metabolic response (≥ 20% decrease in mean SUVmax from baseline) at ≥1 time points. Partial responses were observed in 3 pts (mBRAF melanoma, mBRAF pancreatic ca, mKRAS endometrioid ca); 5 pts had stable disease ≥ 5 months. Conclusions: Combination dosing of GDC‑0973 and GDC-0941 is generally well tolerated, with toxicities similar to those observed in single agent GDC-0973 and GDC-0941 phase 1 trials. There are early signs of anti-tumor activity. Dose escalation on MEK int and 7/7 schedules continues and updated data will be presented.

This report presents the biography of the composer Antonio Vivaldi, background of his composition Gloria, musical characteristics and analysis. Moreover, for a successful performance, rehearsal plans and techniques are also included. Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), one of the representative composers in Baroque period (1600-1750), wrote Gloria, in the early 18th century. The composition date is still disputed between scholars. He composed three settings of the Gloria text: RV 588, 589 and 590. Out of them RV 589 is the most performed setting. Gloria consists of twelve movements and orchestration of trumpet, oboe, strings, and continuo. Homophonic and polyphonic style is prevalent in this work. In addition, focus should be placed on the harmonic suspensions, the flow of chromatic melodic lines and melismas. For the recital, Chamber Singers consisted of 23 people who were the members of Concert Choir who have training focusing on clean and light tone with non-vibrato style.

In 1838, Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax created the saxophone. The saxophone was officially patented on June 24, 1846. Sax became the first Professor of Saxophone at the Conservatoire de Paris. This conservatoire has been and continues to be a historically important school of music in Europe. There have been four saxophone professors at the Conservatoire National Supèrieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris since the instrument’s creation. These professors include: Adolphe Sax (1814-1894), Marcel Mule (1901-2001), Daniel Deffayet (1922-2002), and Claude Delangle (born 1957). Each instructor has championed the saxophone to new heights by refining pedagogical approaches and by advocating for the creation of new saxophone compositions. The music examined in this document represents pieces composed for each of the four saxophone professors who have taught at the Conservatoire de Paris. Paul-Agricole Génin’s composition Variations sur un thème espagnol: pour saxophone alto et piano was inspired by Adolphe Sax, Fernande Decruck composed Sonata in C-Sharp for Alto Saxophone and Piano (1943) for Marcel Mule, Ida Gotkovsky wrote Variations pathétiques: pour Saxophone Alto et Piano (1980) for Daniel Deffayet, and Sequenza IX for Alto Saxophone (1980) by Luciano Berio was dedicated to Claude Delangle. All of these pieces demonstrate how composers continually strive to expand the boundaries of the skilled saxophonists’ musical style, technical facility, and overall flexibility on the saxophone. This master’s report, presented as extended program notes, includes biographical information about the composers, a historical and stylistic overview of the selected compositions, and a harmonic and formal analysis of the music with respect to performance considerations.

Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Orchestra is considered a master concert work in saxophone literature. The work was written for saxophone pioneer Sigurd Rascher who was active in commissioning new works for the instrument. Piet Swerts’ Klonos, composed over 40 years after Dahl’s Concerto, is a much newer composition. The work has gained national recognition as a popular competition piece and is a synthesis of new and old compositional styles. These two works strongly showcase the flexibility and virtuosity capable of the skilled saxophonist. This master’s report, presented as extended program notes, includes biographical information about the composers, a historical and stylistic overview of the selected compositions, and a harmonic and formal analysis of the music with respect to performance considerations.

This report provides detailed analyses of several orchestral works. Current orchestras have striven to rejuvenate their programs by balancing canonical literature with newer or less familiar works; such a practice has become especially important in an age when audiences are dwindling and orchestras are disbanding. The works included in this report follow that balanced blueprint, including staples such as Haydn’s Symphony No. 103 in E-flat Major (the “Drumroll”) and Berlioz’s “Hungarian March” from The Damnation of Faust to new orchestrations of 20th century works, such as Bryce Craig’s arrangement of the toccata from Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, as well as works composed within the last six years, such as Casey Cangelosi’s Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra No. 2. Each work’s formal design is straightforward, and the technical skills required are not virtuosic. The chapters below explore each work from a historical, theoretical, and performance perspective.

Various challenges face rural areas when providing programs similar to those offered by their suburban counterparts. It is difficult for rural areas to provide experiences that larger urban and metropolitan areas can offer. Cooperation is vital to developing arts programming in rural areas. Development and Perceptions of Rural Arts Experiences: A Case Study of the Marshall County Arts Cooperative (MCAC) represents a unique setting where students, teachers and community members were given opportunities to collaborate for the common good of all participants. On September 2nd, 2005 a two-year plan was approved to make a Community Arts Program a reality and operational in all parts of Marshall County, Kansas. Under the guidance of Kansas State University Music Education Department, the researcher developed and studied the Marshall County Arts Cooperative (MCAC). Perceptions of Marshall County students, parents, educators and community members were analyzed. MCAC programs worked in continued cooperation with area public and private schools and eleven arts organizations within Marshall County. The plan provides for the documentation of the project with a completed doctoral dissertation entitled: Development and Perceptions of Rural Arts Experiences: A Case Study of MCAC. The research design is framed into four main categories: (1) MCAC Development, (2) Rural Locale Codes, (3) Arts Experiences and (4) Perceptions of MCAC. A diverse collection of samples include, direct and indirect observation, interviews, documents, artist rosters and audio/video artifacts. Following a thorough analysis, emerging themes provide insight into the development and implementation of the MCAC. Results indicate that cooperation from a variety of people including staff, artists, students, educators and community members played a significant role in the success of MCAC and experiences created diversity in remote and isolated areas.
