Este artículo relata nuestra investigación sobre la relación entre las universidades argentinas, en especial los investigadores de las ciencias duras, con la Fábrica Sin Patrón Zanon. Es el resultado de un viaje por dos semanas – en septiembre de 2008 - a Neuquén y Buenos Aires, con el objetivo de entrevistar trabajadores de Zanon y profesores de la Universidad de Comahue (UnCo), además de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). Primero describimos la rebelión social argentina de diciembre de 2001 en perspectiva histórica, para después analizar las particularidades de Neuquén. La fábrica recuperada Zanon es observada en la tercera sección. Después, hicimos un breve relato histórico del debate sobre ciencia y tecnología (C&T) en la década de 1960 y describimos la ayuda de algunos químicos de la UBA y de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la UnCo para la recuperación de Zanon.

Abstract Proving the resurrection of the body by logic is one of the most challenging issues of our time as many people deny the resurrection nowadays. Badīʿ al-Zamān Saʿīd al-Nūrsī has used thematic exegesis to prove the resurrection of the body through two ways: first, studying this topic through surveying all the verses of the Qurʾān. Secondly, studying the main topic and core of the sūra and then interpreting its verses accordingly. Further, the main aim of this article is first, to explain the logical approach which Badīʿ al-Zamān Saʿīd al-Nūrsī has followed in order to eliminate all the doubts about resurrection possibility and the resurrection of the body. Second, it aims at explaining how thematic tafsīr could be used to explain the major Qrʾānic and creed issues such as resurrection. The methodology used in this article is surveying all the writings of Badīʿ al-Zamān Saʿīd al-Nūrsī to well explain his methodology. Finally, the conclusion reached in this article is that proving the resurrection of the body through logic which is derived from the holy Qurʾān is very easy through the methodology used by Badīʿ al-Zamān Saʿīd al-Nūrsī, and his argument could be used to strengthen the belief in the Day of Judgement and to disprove those who deny it.

Persian archery manuals provide lots of useful information on shooting with a Persian composite bow. The main aim of this article is to provide, for the first time, a full annotated translation of an undated Persian archery manual written by Mohammad Zamān known as Čerāq Beg from the family of Kāmrān Beg Qarānāj. The manual is handwritten and consists of twenty four pages which include twelve chapters. Despite the occasional confusion, the obscure vocabulary, and the odd clumsy description, the text is a mine of information. It shows the continuity of the Persian archery tradition at least to the end of the eighteenth century and increases our knowledge of some of the details once commonplace that are now obscure. The gradual increase in our knowledge of Persian archery is progressing through the discovery and translation of works like this one of Mohammad Zamān. Such manuals introduce new techniques and also confirm the pervasiveness of the basic forms of this ancient art.

El artículo analiza la configuración de identidades colectivas en el marco de los procesos de ocupación y recuperación de empresas por trabajadores en la Argentina de la última década. En primer lugar presenta un marco teórico sobre el proceso político de constitución de identidades colectivas, con énfasis en la dimensión política y en el carácter sobredeterminado de las mismas. A partir de este desarrollo se centra en el caso de la Cerámica Zanón de la Provincia de Neuquén, analizando el lugar que ocupa el clasismo, entre otros códigos culturales, en el proceso de constitución de la identidad los obreros de Zanón y en la construcción de opciones de futuro por parte de los protagonistas. La metodología del estudio se basa en la utilización de diversas fuentes de información en la reconstrucción del mundo de sentido de los actores y de la acción.

Previous work has shown that Turkish has two structurally different ways of forming predicates with a range of effects for phonological stress, the selection of verbal suffixes, and particle placement (Hankamer 2008; Kelepir 2001; Kornfilt 1996; Zanon 2014). I present evidence drawn from a pilot study of a previously unnoticed difference between these predicate types: In vP-sized or larger coordinated phrases which realize a single sentencefinal predicate, verbal predicates are highly degraded when the person features on the conjuncts’ subjects mismatch, while participial predicates are relatively acceptable under the same conditions. Building on Kelepir (2001) & Zanon (2014)’s work on head-movement in Turkish predicates, I argue that gapping generates these strings from different sized coordinations, and explains the grammatical degradation split observed in the pilot study if we assume a more stringent identity requirement in Turkish gapping than we do for English.

Abstract Although overshadowed by his celebrated commentaries on Ibn ʿArabī and Ibn al-Fāriḍ, Dāwūd al-Qayṣarī’s (d. 750/1351) treatise on the philosophy of time – the Nihāyat al-bayān fī dirāyat al-zamān (The Utmost Elucidation Concerning Knowledge of Time) – is a notable milestone in the history of Islamic conceptions of temporality. Composed around the start of Qayṣarī’s tenure as head of the first Ottoman madrasa, the Nihāyat al-bayān rejects the Aristotelian definition of time as the number of motion in favor of Abū l-Barakāt al-Baghdādī’s concept of zamān as the measure of being. Challenging, likewise, portrayals of time as a flux or succession of fleeting instants, Qayṣarī propounds instead an absolutist vision of time as an integral, objectively existent whole. Qayṣarī’s reassessment of dominant medieval theories of temporality – including kalām atomism and the Neoplatonic distinction between time, perpetuity, and eternity – is thus shown to be a key early example of what was to become an abiding Ottoman interest in time and timekeeping.

This essay is written with the aim of presenting, in an infor-mative way, the main words of the Qur’ān relating to time or some aspect of time. The essay begins with a study of Qur’anic vocabulary on time done by Muḥammad b. Mūsā Bābāʻammī in his work Mafhūm al-Zamān fī-l-Qurʼān al-Karīm. However, in the essay we have sought to present the semantic richness of the vocabulary of the Qurʼān that relates to time. The essay can serve as a starting point for other philological, theological, and phil-osophical studies of the terminology of Islam relating to time. God created time (al-zamān). No time existed before that. And God created place (al-makān). No place existed before that. The Absolute (al-Ḥaqq), the Magnificent, He was there although there was no place or time. He is Supreme, no place reaches Him, Nor is He owned by time! (al-Qushayrī, Laṭāʼif al-Ishārāt, 3:145)

Abstract This article provides the editio princeps of a previously unknown maqāma attributed to Badīʿ al-Zamān al-Hamad̠ānī (d. 398/1008). It begins with a review of the scholarship on the manuscripts of Hamad̠ānī’s Maqāmāt and discusses how the text of this lost maqāma was uniquely preserved in one manuscript, Yale University, Beinecke Library, Salisbury collection no. 63. This manuscript, copied in 603/1206, was well-known to European scholarship, having been in the possession of Everard Scheidius (1742-1794), Silvestre de Sacy (1775-1838), and Edward Eldridge Salisbury (1814-1901). The maqāma, preserved therein, describes a fraudulent doctor’s sale of medicinal compounds allegedly composed of rare materia medica. The text of this maqāma, which the editors have entitled al-Maqāma l-Ṭibbiyya, is then provided in facsimile, a critical edition, and a fully-annotated English translation. A detailed analysis of the maqāma follows, in which the form, subject matter, language, and style of this maqāma are discussed in relation to the known corpus of Hamad̠ānī’s other maqāmāt. The article concludes with several hypotheses about the possible authenticity of this lost work.

Partindo de uma discussão existente na literatura acadêmica acerca das transformações em curso na vivência dos tempos/espaços pelos sujeitos sociais e suas repercussões no contexto escolar, buscamos problematizar a forma como essas questões têm sido percebidas por profissionais da educação e estudantes com quem tivemos a oportunidade de dialogar em pesquisas realizadas ao longo dos últimos anos (SILVA, CRISTOFOLI & ZANIN, 2012; ZANIN et al, 2013). Tais pesquisas revelam a falta de sentido do trabalho escolar, sobretudo na perspectiva dos/as estudantes, e a crise de legitimidade que atinge a escola atualmente, colocando em evidência o descompasso existente entre a realidade escolar tal como se apresenta e as novas significações que as categorias de espaço e de tempo alcançaram na contemporaneidade, com implicações para os modos de subjetivação de crianças e jovens, sua escolarização, bem como para a vida em sociedade. As pesquisas nos permitiram acessar, também, as percepções dos sujeitos escolares sobre a forma como a educação integral, concretizada em iniciativas como o Programa Mais Educação, tem impactado suas vivências de tempo/espaço no interior das escolas. No presente artigo, buscamos aproximar esses achados de pesquisa do debate que vem sendo alimentado por outros pesquisadores (CAVALIERE, 2007; GADOTTI, 2009; ARROYO, 2012), os quais apontam tanto a fecundidade das práticas desenvolvidas com base na ideia de educação integral – e, mais amplamente, no questionamento do modelo escolar vigente – quanto as contradições e desafios que acompanham as tentativas de implementá-las no ensino público brasileiro.

AbstractThis paper explores the category of childhood in Sudanese culture in relation to the Sudanese notion of the unhomely in Muhammad Sa'īd Shūlī's Hūsh Hamd and Sayf al-Dīn Hasan Bābikir's al-Zamān al-Fadā'ī al-Mi'waj. The theoretical framework is drawn from Sigmund Freud and Homi Bhabha. Having examined childhood and the Sudanese notion of the homely the paper goes on to inquire into the motif of the "unhomely" in the two novels using tradition, animal instinct, gender violence, intragender guiles and treachery and patriarchal privileges as strategies.

We extend the Curci-Paffuti relation of bosonic sigma models to the supersymmetric case. In the N=1 model, a similar relation is found, while in the N=2 model, a vanishing result ensues for the dilaton β-function. One contribution to the dilaton β-function in the N=2 model is identified as a previous result of Grisaru and Zanon; however, if we remain within a minimal subtraction scheme, other terms coming from finite subtractions appear which precisely cancel that and give a vanishing result. This is in agreement with a recent result of Jack and Jones.

A detailed survey along the coastal regions of Southern India revealed the occurrence of seven Pandanus species, viz. P. kaida Kurz., P. odorifer (Forssk.) Kuntz., P. canaranus Warb., P. furcatus Roxb., P. thwaitesii Mart., P. foetidus Roxb and a new species P. palakkadensis Nadaf, Zanan & Wakte. The fragrance of staminate inflorescences of these species was compared with the fragrance of commercial staminate inflorescences of P. odorifer. P. thwaitesii,P. kaida and P. palakkadensis recorded comparable fragrance with that of P. odorifer. The study reveals the fragrance potential of these species, which could be exploited commercially for extraction of essential oil.

This article provides the editio princeps of three previously unknown maqāmāt attributed to Badīʿ al-Zamān al-Hamadhānī (d. 398/1008). It begins with a review of studies on the collecti4on of Hamadhānī’s Maqāmāt, and recent research by the authors on the manuscript tradition of this work. It discusses how these three maqāmāt are located in approximately one-fourth of the manuscripts of Hamadhānī’s Maqāmāt, including a thirteenth/nineteenth century copy of a sixth/twelfth century manuscript, ms School of Oriental and African Studies 47280. The authors then provide a sample of the manuscripts utilized in the edition, a critical edition of the maqāmāt, and an analysis of their contents. The conclusion considers their authenticity in light of other maqāmāt attributed to Hamadhānī.

H.P. Lovecraft was a twentieth-century American writer whose short story “The Music of Erich Zann” has inspired musical works in several genres. This story was written within Lovecraft’s aesthetic of cosmic horror, an aesthetic which portrays the disintegration of a subject following exposure to the unknown terrors of reality. While cosmic horror shares some characteristics with Immanuel Kant’s and Edmund Burke’s sublime, it differs in that it denies the objective distance and foundation of reason required by Kant and Burke to allow the subject to gain pleasure from the experience. Considering two musical responses to “The Music of Erich Zann” by composers Raymond Wilding-White and Alexey Voytenko, this paper finds a similar distinction between musical expressions of the sublime and cosmic horror. Both compositions use some techniques from the musical topics of ombra and tempesta that scholar Clive McClelland describes as musical emanations of the sublime; however, both also present techniques beyond these topics that deny the listener a foundation in familiarity and any single musical frame. As a result, this paper argues that these compositions exemplify a musical topic of cosmic horror that is similar to but distinct from the topics of musical sublimity. This ‘music of contingency,’ titled in reference to philosopher Quentin Meillassoux’s work, emerged to express the new anxieties and pluralities of the twentieth century.

Infection is an inherent complication in surgery. The high cost, the morbidity and the mortality to which it gives rise require that an effort be made to reduce its incidence. The control of the rates of infection constitutes today a parameter of the quality of the service provided by a hospital. In Brazil the unstructured nature of the vast majority of hospitals makes the recording of hospital infection and any attempt to control it a difficult task.Isolated studies have appeared in the Brazilian literature such as those of Hultzler et al on data from the São Paulo University Hospital, Zanon et al2 from Ipanema Hospital, Rio de Janeiro, and Ferraz et al from the Federal University of Pernambuco Teaching Hospital. Hultzler et al reported in 1973 that the incidence of acquired infection in the patients admitted to the São Paulo University Hospital was 5.95%. The overall rate of post-operative infection in 4,746 operations performed was 6.59%, while that of wound infection was 3.08%.In 1979 Zanon et al reported a 7.5% incidence of wound infection in the Division of General Surgery at Ipanema Hospital (Rio de Janeiro).In 1980 the National Enquiry on Post-Operative Infection was organized under the auspices of the Brazilian College of Surgeons. A questionnaire was sent to 3,225 members of the College throughout the country. Of the 107 questionnaires duly completed and returned (3.31%) only 86 (2.66%) reported controlling infection, and of these, 61 (1.89%) included the outpatient department within the scope of their control of infection. Only 20 of the 107 questionnaires returned gave what were considered answers with regard to surgical wound infection.

The collection of Oirat manuscripts includes “Vadzhrachkhedika Pradzhnya-paramita Sutra”, “The History of White Tara”, “Altn Gerl Nertya Nomin Khurangu Orshv”, prayer-repentance “Tsogt Zandn Orshv”, etc. The article gives the transliteration the manuscript of the letter of the Kalmyk Khan Ayuki to the Astrakhan Governor P. M. Apraksin, translated into the modern Kalmyk language and translated into Russian. The introduction of the transliteration and translation into modern Kalmyk of these manuscripts will contribute greatly to the research of the Kalmyk written culture.

In the 6th century CE, the Sasanian empire was divided into four administrative units already during the second reign of Kavad I, however, it was during the time of Khosrov Anushirvan that these regions were transformed into the military-administrative units – kʻustaks, where the administrative power belonged to the padgospan and the military to the spahbed. The northern kʻustak or kʻust-i-Kapkoh was included the marzpanates: Armenia (divided into the three military-administrative units – Tanutirakan gund, Vaspurakan gund, Syunikʻ), Georgia, Albania and the šahrs: Adharbādhakān, Gīlān, Dlmunkʻ, Zanjān, Ghazvīn, Ṭabaristān and Ray.
