Streszczenie:
The lightness of magnesium makes it an attractive material for applications where weight reduction is critical, in particular, consumer electronics and transportation industries. Despite its advantages as a material the use of magnesium worldwide is a tiny fraction of other materials (steel, plastic, aluminium). Amongst the reasons for this, the metal’s price has not been a significant factor until recently. Throughout the period of 2001-2006, magnesium has been cheaper than both aluminium and zinc on a volumetric basis. An issue that magnesium presently faces is a perceived insecurity of supply. 77% of primary magnesium is produced within China and the price has seen some enormous shifts. In late 2005 the magnesium price (primary FOB China) was about 1500USD/t. By the third quarter of 2008 it had risen to over 6000USD/t only to fall in recent month to below 3000USD/t. The current pricing levels of around 3000USD/t could prove beneficial if maintained over a long period, if it led to the establishment of new producers and a diversification of the supply base.

Logo is available on an increasing number of microcomputers, and many teachers arc considering Logo as an alternative to BASIC for young children. Should you consider Logo? By all means; Logo is an excellent language that can easily be learned by young children. But do not choose Logo as an alternative to BASIC, choose Logo as a companion language. Logo is excellent for some graphics, procedures, and structural programming and is available at an extra cost for some additional memory. For Cartesian graphing and most mathematics, BASIC is excellent and widely available at no extra cost. To illustrate Logo, let me introduce you to some elementary programs for your students.

Streszczenie:
Purpose – The literature on volition indicates that the only dichotomous measure that differentiates voluntary from involuntary temporary workers is unable to fully explain temporary workers’ attitudes. There are more detailed explanations of why workers choose temporary work. The purpose of this paper is to develop and validate a scale of reasons for choosing temporary employment. Design/methodology/approach – The study is divided into two parts. In the first part, 32 items were selected based on the literature. They were administered to a sample of 337 Italian temporary agency workers. Then, an exploratory factor analysis was used. In the second part of the study, previous findings were subjected to a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) considering a sample of 325 Italian temporary agency workers. Findings – A two-factor solution (i.e. integrated regulation and identified regulation) emerged from the CFA. The authors present the scale with means and standard deviations for the measurement of the constructs. The integrated regulation subscale appears sensitive enough to differentiate the contract preference. Research limitations/implications – The two samples were from a single temporary work agency, thus they did not represent the entire heterogeneous population of temporary workers. Originality/value – This study proposes a first attempt to construct a questionnaire about the reasons for choosing temporary employment in Italy that raises questions about how institutional factors within various labor markets influence issues of volition and employment contract choice.

Streszczenie:
An analysis of Scripture uncovers a new model of God’s election and predestination of souls, which fits under the umbrella of the Calvinist theologies, but where this model involves an answer to the long-standing question of why God chose some, rather than all. It will be explored how before souls were elected (or condemned), God looked at them and knew them in a pre-election state, which God used to predestine each soul in physical reality. This analysis reveals why it could be no other way but where God only would choose some, rather than all souls during the physical embodiment stage of the soul, and the vexing centuries-old Calvinist question of why God elected some not all has an answer.

Streszczenie:
For the career development of chief executive officers (CEOs), the existing literature lacks research from the perspectives of gender and the environment. Starting with the perspective of the environment, and through the adoption of the World Bank Survey Data on Chinese Enterprises and China’s Comprehensive Social Survey (CGSS), this paper addresses the question: “Why do companies choose female CEOs?” The analysis examines 15 aspects, including enterprise scale, age, industry, owner, product market, market environment, city level, etc. The research findings are as follows. (1) The corporate environment has an impact on CEO gender, and there are differences in its nature and the degree of impact. Enterprise size, state-owned shareholding, radiation effect, market environment, and gender culture have a significant negative impact on female CEOs, while product features, industry characteristics, and female owners have a significantly positive impact on female CEOs. (2) In terms of the impact mechanism, the impact of the meso-environment on female CEOs is significantly adjusted by the macro-environment. This paper extends the existing theory from the perspectives of gender and the environment. Relevant policy recommendations are proposed to provide a theoretical basis for the government to promote women’s employment policies and provide effective suggestions for promoting women’s career development.

Research into human eating behavior is complex. Innate preferences for sweet and aversions to bitter tastes may explain why we choose certain foods. Some segments of the population, called “supertasters,” are more sensitive to bitter-tasting foods because of a genetic polymorphism. These individuals may reject bitter vegetables like broccoli, potentially putting them at risk for obesity and chronic disease. However, learned associations with food, including rewards, social experiences, and modeling, have also been shown to explain food choice. The respective roles of taste and learning in food choice are explored here in a classroom investigation designed for undergraduates.
