Pełny tekst źródłaIn 1950, this small region in the "deep" mezzogiorno manifested symptoms of acute underdeveloppement : over population of the land, much of which is rugged ; continuing soil erosion ; extreme inequalities of land ownership ; poverty ; underprovision of infrastructure. In the following 30 years, it has seen several important changes. The elimination or reduction of long standing problems : malaria and problems of water management. These improvements have contributed more than agrarian reform has to the renewal of lowland agriculture. Outmigration has alleviated the population problems of the mountains and hillcountry. Improvements to the communication network have reduced isolation. The construction of several industries has brought a rapid, though fragile, modernisation ; moreover the growth of services and the urbanisation of a society better integrated into the outside world, had contributed to this modernisation. Spatial re-organisation is being experienced as a result of this, with the growing importance of the lowlands and of the regional capital (favoured by the regionalisation), in contrast to the mountain cantons which are now experiencing problems of depopulation which are common to many mountainous coastal regions of the north mediterranean. Do these changes mean that developpement has been accomplished ? developments elsewhere in italy and the still-unfulfilled promise

Pełny tekst źródłaWhether is it an exception or not, Vietnam remains at any rate a lucky choice for a case study that fits any sociological analysis. The methodology is how to choose the domain for such analysis. That research field has been found out and is demonstrated here to the readers as: the salaried staff in this several decade long tight closed country. How the agricultural workers are employed and paid during the French colonial period? What is the composition of the salaried staff in Vietnam during sixty years long period? What is the profile of the ghost named as bureaucracy depicted in the real faces of these salaried people? How is the life of workers, white and blue collars, peasants and intellectuals in this so rich country in natural and human resources and so poor physically and spiritually? Using tables and graphics, interviews and descriptions, the essay would like to present the true face of Vietnam with the hope to work out for a (while remaining blurring vague) outline named as Hope

Pełny tekst źródłaWith the recent advancement in multimedia technologies, in conjunction with the rapid increase of the volume of digital video data and the growth of internet ; it has becom mandatory to have the hability browse and search through information stored in large multimedia databases. For this purpose, content based video retrieval (CBVR) has become an active area of research durinf the last decade. The objective of this thesis is to present applications for temporal video segmentation and video retrieval based on different mathematical models. A shot is considered as the elementary unit of a video, and is defined as a continuous sequence of frames taken from a single camera, representing an action during time. The different types of transitions that may occur in a video sequence are categorized into : abrupt and gradual transition. In this work, through statistical analysis, we segment a video into its constituent units. This is achieved by identifying transitions between adjacent shots. The first proposed algorithm aims to detect abrupt shot transitions only by measuring the similarity between consecutive frames. Given the size of the vector containing distances, it can be modeled by a log normal distribution since all the values are positive. Gradual shot transition identification is a more difficult task when compared to cut detection. Generally, a gradual transition may share similar characteristics as a dynamic segment with camera or object motion. In this work, singular value decomposition (SVD) is performed to project features from the spatial domain to the singular space. Resulting features are reduced and more refined, which makes the remaining tasks easier. The proposed system, designed for detecting both abrupt and gradual transitions, has lead to reliable performances achieving high detection rates. In addition, the acceptable computational time allows to process in real time. Once a video is partitioned into its elementary units, high-level applications can be processed, such as the key-frame extraction. Selecting representative frames from each shot to form a storyboard is considered as a static and local video summarization. In our research, we opted for a global method based on local extraction. Using refined centrist features from the singular space, we select representative frames using modified k-means clustering based on important scenes. This leads to catch pertinent frames without redoudancy in the final storyboard

Pełny tekst źródłaThe subject of this thesis is : - to analyse the reinterpretation to which the operation (surgical act) is relevant, in the whole of representations relating to excision that explain its perenniality ; - to examine whate kind of relations excision (or its renunciation) maintains, with a series of factors (school attendance, ethnies mingling, social status, etc. ). In the first part of this research, we present the populations examined, their social structure and the conditions of the study. The second part deals with the meaning and the evolution of excision in the societies where modernity is marked by the development of the mass-media and population mingling ; and with the rush of excision in the immigration surroundings where it had never been practised before and where it is producing a culture schock. The last part emphasizes reflections about changes and prospects in the practice of excision

Pełny tekst źródłaThe agricultural modernization of the plain of b. Amir-b. Moussa has led to a sweeping change of the rural society. During the pre-colonial phase, the land system was characterized by its communal relations corresponding to a collective appropriation of the soil, as a strategic mean of output. But on the one hand, with the prevalence of the private form of the landed property and, on the other hand, with the introduction of agro-industrial cultures, the land system has experienced a change in its nature. Henceforth the process of labor requires the intervention of several factors of production. The Moroccan state by supervising almost all these factors has changed the small land-owners into agricultural workers. The reproduction of this modern system is ensured by the relevant role of a fatalistic peasant ideology

Pełny tekst źródłaIfugao province, in the Philippine Cordilleras, is an arena where symbolic confrontations clearly appear in rice-farming. Social interactions that were centered around the rice production and consumption are shifting towards another carrier of value: money. This thesis explores this shift, putting forward an ethnography of social change that gives room to individual initiatives and debates, and take into account the everyday actions of the members of Ifugao society, who are everything but passive viewers of world mutations. This book seeks to understand what it describes as the uncertainty of actors about what their society is and about how it may reproduce in a context of rapidly changing social norms. The inquiry about norms, and the way they are performed or reshaped, is tightly connected to an empirical fieldwork. It focuses primarily on the topic of exchange values; the local Ifugao rice varieties (tinawon) are dedicated to interpersonal exchanges, fostering a cycle of social debts and reciprocity that cement the bonds between persons. This crucial role of Tinawon, however, is contested by money, a pure exchange value. The analysis does not consider money as destructive and anti-cultural, but rather as deeply socialized and flooded with lasting representations that used to be attached to rice. This migration of value, a symptom of norm uncertainty, reveals the architecture of social change in Ifugao. These dynamics, however, can be understood only by taking their political dimension into account, in a period extending beyond the limits of the contemporaneous. Thus, the central part of the thesis is dedicated to a historical study, built on archives, looking at the genesis of Philippine nationalism. It sets a comparison between the narrative the latter has created, and the history of the inclusion of the Cordilleras within a political archipelago born from colonial drives. Such an approach aims at avoiding the localist trap of considering Ifugao province as an isolated “here and now”. One must be equally thorough in investigating multi-scaled phenomena when considering the power relationships in present day Ifugao. The concept of scales lay at the core of the third part of this book, in which the analysis attempts to demonstrate how strongly the everyday construction of governance is linked to transversal events that imply diverse geographical and ideological spaces, from municipalities to international networks of Philippine immigration

Pełny tekst źródłaA hundred years after the rural exodus, subsistence economy and community life are no longer at the base of village society. The traditional structure of family life, of local relation ships and of production systems was dismantled by technical innovations and urbanisation. We are participating in a narrow intedependance between rural and urban societies, and in an encroachment of the urban way of life on the daily or seasonal life in the countryside, at an individual and family level. This development brings into question both the mechanisms of an allenglobing society and those of local societies. Demographic, technical, economic factors may be the motor of social change, but they dont explain it. Social actors deliberately intervene, defining their objective as that of changing society or that of obstructing these changes. The problem of village indentity is therefore brought up at the same time social change radically breaks up the traditional framwork of rural society, necessitating its adjustement. It leads local society to search for a new equilibrium, a new indentity

Pełny tekst źródłaIn the context of accelerated social change in contemporary Turkey, we have enquired the role of values education in preschool in the process of parents' self-construction, parentality being understood as a stage in global adult development. We have thus analyzed the implementation in a group of schools in Ankara of a method based on behavioural assets aiming at character-building in young children, by the examination of its translation through the formal, actual and hidden curriculum. The space opened up to school-family cooperation has been investigated through the diverse channels of communication used to connect with the families. The form given to parental support has been acknowledged as based upon a pedagogy of exemplarity and emotional proximity. By means of a survey addressed to the parents of five schools on different domains of self-efficacy related to parental engagement in school life (the latter articulated in actions, desires and satisfaction), we have apprehended the contribution of the perceived efficacy in transmitting one's values to one's children to parental and synoptic self-efficacy, as well as the interconnection of parental self-efficacy with the other domains of self-efficacy taken into consideration. We suggest to employ these analytical tools to back up targeted parental support practices aiming at the multiple dimensions of the self

Pełny tekst źródłaThe purpose of this thesis is to understand the transformations undergone by power and social relations in contemporary Lao society. Laos is a choice field of investigation for these issues, because of the major political shift of 1975, when the Buddhist monarchy was replaced by a communist regime, which upset a well established symbolic order and further weakened an already little developed economy. After more than twenty years of isolationist policy, however, the government of Laos chose to promote market economy. In this context, the new urban elites are engaged in frantic social competition in order to legitimize their status. Using as its starting point the wedding receptions, which are vital events of Lao social life and the places par excellence of the representation of power and its holders, this thesis illustrates the changes brought about by the transition from a mode of legitimization of authority based on descent to a mode of clan-oriented political working. The increasingly asserted emergence of a desire for distinction is part of the major transformations observable during fieldwork. By privileging the point of view of "the relational individual" in the social construction, this work finally proposes a relational typology liable, on the one hand, to contribute to a synthesis of emergent social dynamics and, on the other hand, to lead to a "minimal model of the subject" allowing to foresee the ways along which an individual, as an interacting person, will act efficiently or not. For this purpose, special attention is focused on the study of relational emic mechanisms such as the piep (self-esteem), the kiet (honorability, worthiness) and the "face" (na)

Pełny tekst źródłaThe development of photography, a result of economic growth, has led to its appropriatio by individuals (trought the democratization of the portrait and amateur photography). Anthropologists also used photographs then films (for illustration as participant observers) before becoming interested in them as an object of study in their own right. This research proposes the analysis of family usesof photographs and video in France (1990-2000). Work carried out on recent developments in the family and that related to family uses of photography define its context. Besides the actual subject of the views taken, what do these uses represent in themselves, how are they related to the functioning of contemporary families ? To what extent do the use of photographs or video reveal, translate, participate in and/or organise ways of "being" part of a family ? Observation of the corpus, together with an analysis of the way 37 people use photographs/video, complemented by their commentaries, confirms the central position and selective nature of the "album", but also its role in the contruction and fragmentation of time. These two points are expression of autobiographical intention of the organiser. The analysis also underlines the importance of the other photographs which are not included in the album. The intermingling of family rites and photographic/video rituals on the occasion of formal marriage celebrations or unofficial ones, or on the arrival of a child (by birth or adoption) proves that photography and video reflect and are a part of changes in family arrangements. Divorce, separation, re-formed families, all these have had an effect on their use. The way they are used is revealing of current attitudes in the face of death (the corpse as "taboo" and also of how the family's photographic inheritance is managed and transmitted. It is thus, that photographs and video, by provoking speech and expressing affects, provide an insight into their link with individual and family memories

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis relies heavily on the concept of "normative transformation of both innermost and social being ", transformations induced by changes in the economic and social environment to an exacerbation of individualism on the one hand referring to executives social and ideological and partly to the psyche of individuals often challenged by the turmoil transformational. Faced with this rapidly changing environment, this thesis describes, from a business case, the use of "marketing war" in the social sphere and considers the fragility and managing the optimal pace of learning the dynamics of a process of change. From the study of this research-action is deduced the potential importance of social cognitive mediation. An attempt to model the results concerning the interplay of interactions and feedbacks on multiple pathways of the future of individual freedom generated by the difficult process of subjectivation is added. The necessary development of sociocognitive mediation intra-company or inter-company is required to solve (purge) interpersonal conflicts and deploy otherness

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis, in two parts is a socio-psychological study of the social changes within selected tribal societies in lebanon. Part one, which was prepared in 1980, is a study of a lebanese village of 6000 inhabitants all belonging to the same tribal group. This research revealed that the community was torn between rural and tribul values from a sode in contrast with urbanized modern values on the other. The second part has been prepared in 1992 after 16 years of civil war in lebanon came to a close. Emphasis in part two focused on the change at the authoritative level among the elite of the village. This shift was the main objective of the new research. It was noticed that the tribal mind-set was becoming more rural in outlook and that the tribe was submerging itself in the society as a whole. Even so the vendetta metality persisted as the symbol of the tribal spirit. Thze methodology of this research honred conventional practices of direct observation, interviews, questionnaires and informants as well as through review of all pertinent documents that were available

Pełny tekst źródłaVideo games interrogate more and more the clinical psychology since early 2000's. They are in the center of numerous controversies about its uses and its alleged misdeeds. Despite this, some videogame practices tend to trivialize today. However, the discourse of addictologists, media, parents and educators, players themselves or of psychoanalysis, often convey a truth obscured by the language that continues to question us. Notably, it raises the issue of the origins, history, and the effects of this truth on the subject that interests us. Say that play "maybe like drugs" is very eloquent about the representations we make, as a society, relating to the game, as the video game. But it's very eloquent, too, about some discontent about new technologies and youth in general. It is this discontent, we think carefully collect in certain demands, and in some symptomatic clinical manifestations, even in some "synthomatical" manifestations. This thesis attempts to question the history and characteristics of the video game as a playful object, before presenting the reports of the video game to the clinic, to finally conclude with a reflection on the discourse about the videogame and their possible effects in the clinic

One of the successes in prevention and sanitary education is the exemple of the catholic private dispensaries in Senegal. By studying health as a complicated element of a cultural system, we show that , behind the proper qualities of theses dispensaries, we must look for the conditions of the sanitary behaviouring change in the transformation of the interaction system of the designed social group. This transformation is the product of foreign constraining elements and inner elements of the system. The emigrated workers'situation is a good picture of it. By the comparative studying of two ethnic groups of economical immigrated people in France, we tend to show that sanitary education is subjected to complicated sociological mechanisms, especially in acculturation, and that it cannot be alone, mover of change in its sphere

Pełny tekst źródłaAt the end of Duvalier government in 1986, peasant organization of a new type came into exisance in Haiti. In a changing of social and political area, their emergence appears as a means of survival compared with the dominant groups and also as a struggle for a social and political emancipation. Work on profesional training and conscience awarness of a party of the church (claiming direcly or indirecly the latino-american liberation theology) on one hand, and on the other, political leaders and NGO aid for development, contribute to this effort. At the instigation of low-level rural development project supported by those institutions, opposition of the objectives and diversified functionning multiplied. But, taking shape at the same time within the peasant dynamics, a triangular “leaders/opportunities/alliances” and a situation of proliferation in which peasant sometimes get real difficult to find their way. Analysis of their movement in terms of social legitimancy has been as a result, complicated, but interesting for searchers in human and social sciences. The study hopes to contribute to the analysis of social movement in Haiti. It is pleading for the recognition for the peasant movement and its integration into the wider field of classic social movement. The study is trying to find element of explanation in a double ambivalance that determines peasant movement functionning : a movement initiated and also supported by external forces (Church, State, NGO), torn between development aids and search for identity; on the other hand, a field of classical analysis and interpretation that pushes certain collective movements into the background and gives them a treatment that alters their legitimancy. A procedure which obviously damages the sociology of knowledge and the global analysis of social movement

Pełny tekst źródłaThis research emanates from a field survey we conducted in the Department of Drôme, France, which deals with the analysis of a variety of valorization methods of local food productions we sought to explain. Local food productions are a traditional production rooted in time and space, regardless the organizational and strategic variety of valorization methods. In the Drôme territory, we found a variety of productions and a variety of organizational and strategic valorization methods. But those patterns are not sufficient to explain what we observed in the field. We observed also another form of reference to location of these productions than only the reference to tradition. From there, in addition to the analysis of the organizational diversity of valorization methods of local food production in Drôme, the characterization of a new form of reference to location of production we spotted is the main issue of this research. To analyze the organizational and symbolic diversity, we conceptualize the valorization methods as systems of domination (in the sense of Max Weber). Indeed, the system and the strategy of valorization are pointed out as well as the shape of the legitimacy on which the social significance of the production is expressed. In this framework, we analyzed six variations of localization types by reference to tradition and one emergent way of localizing productions. This last is assessed through the fact that productions are produced, processed and sold locally by small local farmers, often neo-rural, according to production knowledge and expertise, processing and selling organization built through sharing and selling networks constructed among these farmers. These networks, either formal or informal, are either created through agricultural associations, or either were built autonomously. In this framework, each farmer aims to produce and sell, but also to “build a community” while keeping its independence from peers and institutional actors. Therefore, these farmers, through their relationships to the production and to their community, induce the emergence of knowledge and know-how rooted in “here and now” cultural bedrock crystallized in the representation of the small local farmer

Pełny tekst źródłaThree kinds of change have marked the evolution of rural society in Karia. Contrary to the great upheavals we are concerned of in the 20th century, the change that occured during the 18th and 19th centuries was generally slow, and superficial. The political change has contributed to the constitution of lords domains by acted on the land and the tribe, and not within the tribe. It’s in the colonization period that the bases of tribal organization began to go through significant changes. At the origin of that fact there were two processus: destruction and inbalance. The former affected economic relations, political and juridical systems. The latter had a direct impact on social order of lineages, and disturbed the cultural schema. These caracteristic conditions of the colonial situation remained marked by social disorder. With the implementation of national reforms and plans, rural society entered an era of new evolution dominated by general dynamics of restructruring. Henceforth social organization sharply leaves its old structures. The system of capitalist production is imposed on all sectors. The clear establishment of social classes completely modifies traditional hierarchies. Village organization has replaced tribal organization. The change from the extended family to the conjugal family is linked with the extension of urban and administrative infrastructure. The last facts, combined with great effect of the mass-media and schooling make important cultural changes. Dynamics and contraints, conflicts and elaborations call society into question in permanent basis; they contribute to the construction and demonstration of its plurality. To analyses and demonstrate the specific dimensions of this very plurality is a study ahead

Pełny tekst źródłaAs it takes place in the context of bwa village communities of burkina faso who practise self-subsistence and self-sufficiency, the dynamic of social change reveals is importance when put in the context of commercial cultivation of cotton. The starting hypothesis is that cotton acts in traditional structures as a new dynamic, the effects of which partakes of the agricultural production as well as of the consumption, the social relationships and the whole social structures. In order to detect the changes occurring in these communities, it seemed necessary for us to redefine the image of the society as reconstructed by ethnologists, ands as the tradition presents us today. On the basis of these recallings, the analysis of the effects of cotton growing appeared as an overall view of the effects of introducing business relationships into the traditional structures and into the community relations. These effects are the individualization of production units, the weakening of social changes and community relationships. Cotton is also an element which opens the communities on to the external world. Through this, peasants henceforth take to public policies which attempt to curb the recent crisis of production. This crisis can be summed up in few words : fall of price of pruchase to the producer, rise of the price of fertilizers and more peasants running into debts

Pełny tekst źródłaThe work of this thesis considers the organizational culture as a dependent variable, crossing multiple influences, possibly impacted by the changing of the law of January 02nd, 2002 renewing the medical and medical-social action. Il does not try to extract universal laws, but joins rather in an idiographic prospect and pursues a double objective: -1- describe the transformation of the culture of an establishment according the model of the competing values of Quinn (Quinn and Cameron, 1983; Quinn and Rohrbaugh, 1983; Cameron and Quinn, 2006), -2- qualify and quantify the implementation of the tools’slaw as well as the perception of the agents in this respect. Whereas the social and medical- social sector presented a professional culture of model type of public utility ( Sainsaulieu , 1985; Francfort and al , 1995). For this prospect, we have observed an institution that we think representative of this sector during three years while the tools laws have been elaborated then implemented. We postulated that the organization culture of this institution would be directed towards human relations during the first collecting data. We postulated also that it will go progressively toward the rules with the implementation of the tool’s law: this one is more representative of organizations that are guide to the rules values. The research proves that organizational culture is mixed, that the rule takes the lead before human relations, as early as the first collecting data. In another way, the professional cultures and the personal preferences are oriented toward human relations. During the implementation of the tool’s law, according managerial practices that respect the principles of organizational justice, and that favor organizational commitment, we observe an integration of the cultural pattern on a level of personal preferences and professional cultures

Pełny tekst źródłaSocial exclusion and isolation of the aged is a new problem in algerian society and it raises a number of questions. What are we dealing with when we address social exclusion both of the aged and especially of institutions designed to care for them? their social and cultural situation is disturbed by the changes in contemporary algeria. The social and psychological consequences weigh heavilly on the aged. To the physical handicaps of old age, they add the loss of status and of a meaningful role to play in a society in evolution. If the traditional society respected the old person for their wisdom and acquiescee to them as possessors of the authority and knowledge of the ancestors, in modern algeria the old person is being treated as something of a handicap. Losing his former acquisitions, the old person is becomong a tramp, a vagabond relative to membership in a group, and more and more rejected and isolated in specialized insitutions not adapted to social integration of the aged. Their social exclusion is paralleled in that of abandoned children. This research analyses this phenomenon as well in search of similarities with the rejection of the aged. These are found in historical, social, political, and religious events. This is why we use qualitative methods, especially in interviews and in

Pełny tekst źródłaThe ethno-sociological study of the arche de bonnecombe" community and of the people living in this community, presents the problem of the dynamics of the worldview in a context of social change, as well as the problem of the "meaning", of the religious in our modern society. When analysing the movement of the individual from the society to the community as a process of conversion and social rupture, the study shows : on the one hand that this process is triggered off by the tensions experienced by the individual in society, due to the fact that a gap exists between his system of values and the prevailing way of life; that a restructuring of the individual's way of life and his worldview is carried out in the course of this process. Based on the analysis of the biographical progress of the people living in this community and on the analysis of the procedure of initia tion and integration of the individual into the group, the study sho ws how the conversion process can be viewed as a way of resolving the tensions experienced by the individual in society and how the community can build a new structure of credibility
