The International Thematic Proceedia titled „Psychology in the world of science” is a publication from the 16th International Conference “Days of Applied Psychology” held on September 25th & 26th 2020 at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš. This is a traditional annual nonprofit conference which has been organized since 2005 by the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Niš, with the support and co-financing of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. The conference started with the idea of gathering researchers and practitioners who discuss the link between science and practice in different psychological areas. From the very start, this gathering has welcomed international participants, and year after year this number is on the rise. This scientific publication contains 18 peer-reviewed articles which can be classified as original scientific papers and as review papers. The authors of these manuscripts come from six countries: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Republic of Serbia.

Charles Bell was an internationally renowned teacher of anatomy and surgery and an eloquent advocate of natural theology. His writings on the anatomy of expression had a major influence on art and on the training of painters and artists, and they gave birth to physiological psychology. Bell founded his own anatomy school, took over the well-known Hunterian school in Great Windmill Street, was a clinical teacher at one of the great London hospitals, was the most famous professor appointed to the medical department when the University of London was established, helped to found the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, and, finally, held a prestigious chair of surgery at the University of Edinburgh. His association with the University of London was brief, however, because his role was unclear, the institution was mismanaged, and the environment was acrimonious.

The constructed and presented knowledge in this book is the reflection of a high level of commitment and discipline of the research staff, who voluntarily accepted the invitation of the university to strengthen their training processes in the research aspect, simultaneously contributing to the development of psychology as a discipline and profession. Readers will find in the work a production of high academic quality, oriented from various methodological perspectives and study techniques through which a response is given to the research problems addressed. This book presents investigative advances in psychology related to the lines of research of the Department of Psychology of the Catholic University of Colombia, whose central purpose is the generation of new knowledge with social repercussions. In this sense, the studies presented within the framework of the lines of Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Health and Addictions, Psychobiological and Behavioral Processes, Legal Psychology and Criminology, Social, Political and Community Psychology, and Research Methods applied to the behavioral sciences, although oriented from different perspectives and methodologies, they unite in the same purpose: to strengthen their approach towards problems of social relevance without losing their contribution to psychological discipline. As a consequence, this book presents an enriched thematic variety directly related to the lines of research such as credibility of the testimony, adolescent domestic violence, cognitive training in older adults, family functioning and quality of life, emotional reparation in survivors of sexual violence in the middle of the Colombian armed conflict, dissatisfaction with body image, relational therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy in victims of the Colombian armed conflict, the relationship between physical activity and academic performance, and organizational change. The results of the studies can be problematized and vitalized in different application contexts.
