Objective The original user version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale (uMARS) is an English-language questionnaire that was designed to allow non-expert app users to assess the quality of health apps. We aimed to translate into the Greek language and validate the uMARS. Methods This was a qualitative prospective study. The World Health Organization translation process was followed and a readily available and free-of-charge app was used for the validation process. Internal consistency and reliability were tested twice within one month by 91 Greek medical students. Results The total uMARS score showed excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.86). The internal consistencies of its subscales were also very high (engagement alpha = 0.71; functionality alpha = 0.71; aesthetics alpha = 0.67; information alpha = 0.63), with the notable exception of the satisfaction alpha, which was 0.61. The uMARS total score demonstrated almost perfect agreement levels in most of the subscales according to the rWG index from baseline to 1 month. Conclusions The Greek uMARS is a reliable and valid tool for assessing the quality of mobile apps.

Abstract Objective While the professional version of the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) has already been translated, and validated into the Spanish language, its user-centered counterpart has not yet been adapted. Furthermore, no other similar tools exist in the Spanish language. The aim of this paper is to adapt and validate User Version of the MARS (uMARS) into the Spanish language. Materials and Methods Cross-cultural adaptation, translation, and metric evaluation. The internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Spanish version of the uMARS were evaluated using the RadarCovid app. Two hundred and sixteen participants rated the app using the translated scale. The app was then rated again 2 weeks later by 21 of these participants to measure test-retest reliability. Results No major differences were observed between the uMARS original and the Spanish version. Discrimination indices (item-scale correlation) obtained appropriate results for both raters. The Spanish uMARS presented with excellent internal consistency, α = .89 and .67 for objective and subjective quality, respectively, and temporal stability (r > 0.82 for all items and subscales). Discussion The Spanish uMARS is a useful tool for health professionals to recommend high-quality mobile apps to their patients based on the user’s perspective and for researchers and app developers to use end-user feedback and evaluation, to help them identify highly appraised and valued components, as well as areas for further development, to continue ensuring the increasing quality and prominence of the area of mHealth. Conclusion uMARS Spanish version is an instrument with adequate metric properties to assess the quality of health apps from the user perspective.

Abstract Introduction: Low medication adherence is associated with worse outcomes among patients with breast cancer (BC). Retrospective studies have shown decreased survival in patients with BC who are non-adherent to endocrine therapy, but less is known about newer oral cancer therapies and the impact on adherence to medications for chronic non-cancer conditions. New strategies to improve global medication adherence are needed. We assessed the feasibility and patient satisfaction of the Medisafe smartphone application in the initial phase of a trial to increase global medication adherence. Methods: Patients treated with oral anti-neoplastic therapy for treatment of BC were eligible. Enrolled patients received individualized instruction on Medisafe app installation and use. The Medisafe app sends patients push notification reminders at the times specified for each of their standing oral medications. Patients self-report whether each medication dose was taken or missed directly in the app. Patients were followed for 12 weeks. The primary endpoint was feasibility, defined as completion of the 12-week study intervention. uMARS (end-user Mobile Application Rating Scale) questionnaires were used to assess patient satisfaction with the Medisafe app at week 12. The objective feedback component of the uMARS contains 16 questions and includes 4 objective quality subscales: engagement, functionality, aesthetics, and information quality. Each question is answered on a 1-5 scale (5 indicates highest satisfaction), and mean responses were used to calculate an overall satisfaction score and a satisfaction score for each subsection. Results: Between July 2020 and July 2021, 58 patients were enrolled. The mean participant age was 58 years (range 31 - 87). As of June 30,2020 20 patients reached the 12-week endpoint. Of these patients, 18 (90%) completed the 12-week intervention. Of the 17 patients who completed the uMARS questionnaire, the mean overall uMARS score of the Medisafe app was 3.8 (SD 0.6). Table 1 displays the results for the uMARS subscales, which include a mean functionality score of 4.0 (SD 0.7) and mean information quality score of 4.1 (SD 0.7). Notably, 70.6% of participants reported that the app was easy to use and clearly designed, and 76.5% reported that the app’s content was appropriately designed for its specific target audience. Of the 13 patients who reported viewing educational information within the app, 84.6% reported that the information seemed credible. Almost half of patients (43.8%) reported that the app increased their awareness of the importance of addressing health behavior. Conclusions: Our early findings suggest that the use of a smartphone application to improve medication adherence among patients with cancer is feasible, with a high rate of participant completion. Furthermore, high patient-reported satisfaction with the Medisafe app suggests acceptability to promote long-term behavior change. Online nutrition consultations are one of the strategic measures utilized to address complex nutritional issues. The use of smartphones in Indonesia is on the rise, particularly smartphones with the Android operating system. Indonesia has entered the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, which involves the application of technology in a variety of fields, including the healthcare industry. One application of this technology is the creation of the android application "dietducate." Using the uMARS (End-User Version of The Mobile Apps Rating Scale) method, this study aims to assess the feasibility of the android-based health application "dietducate" for nutritionists. Utilizing the uMARS research method and a 5-point scale, the research design is quantitative. Using a technique of purposive sampling, up to 35 nutritionists were gathered as subjects. The application evaluation was conducted using the uMARS questionnaire. The results indicated that the application quality score was within the acceptable range (4.05 out of 5). The component outcomes are determined by four supporting factors: involvement, functionality, aesthetics, and information. The results of each score are 3.97, 4.03, 4.02, and 4.23, respectively. It can be concluded that nutritionists can utilize the dietducate application. This app is also regarded as user-friendly and efficient for completing nutritionists' work. However, there are too many advertisements and minor bugs that need fixing to optimize app performance.

One of the key steps in Network-on-Chip-based design is spatial mapping of cores and routing of the communication between those cores. Known solutions to the mapping and routing problems first map cores onto a topology and then route communication, using separate and possibly conflicting objective functions. In this paper, we present a unified single-objective algorithm, called Unified MApping, Routing, and Slot allocation (UMARS+). As the main contribution, we show how to couple path selection, mapping of cores, and channel time-slot allocation to minimize the network required to meet the constraints of the application. The time-complexity of UMARS+ is low and experimental results indicate a run-time only 20% higher than that of path selection alone. We apply the algorithm to an MPEG decoder System-on-Chip, reducing area by 33%, power dissipation by 35%, and worst-case latency by a factor four over a traditional waterfall approach.

The objective of the article is to evaluate the usability of a mobile application (Healthfy) that makes the prevention and control of overweight and obesity in adults. For the evaluation, a questionnaire adapted from the uMARS method was applied, which was validated by Cronbach's Alpha analysis. Healthfy was used by 26 employees for 21 days of exclusive Home Office. The Pareto method was used for the quantitative statistical analysis, and for the free field responses, the Bardin Content Analysis method. The uMARS validation achieved acceptable reliability (??=0.79). The application met the expectation and encouraged changes in health-related behaviors with a 73.03% agreement. The qualitative analysis of 53 testimonies showed a greater recurrence of records related to behavior to change habits (45%). Thus, it is possible to conclude that the application has characteristics that interfere in the behavior and motivation for healthy habits by workers in an exclusive home office, although there seem to be users limitations in planning and execution of activities.

Background Cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of death worldwide. Mobile health apps could help in preventing cardiovascular diseases by improving modifiable risk factors such as eating habits, physical activity levels, and alcohol or tobacco consumption. Objective The aim of this study was to design a mobile health app, Prevent Connect, and to assess its quality for (1) assessing patient behavior for 4 cardiovascular risk factors (unhealthy eating, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol, and tobacco consumption) and (2) suggesting personalized recommendations and mobile health interventions for risky behaviors. Methods The knowledge base of the app is based on French national recommendations for healthy eating, physical activity, and limiting alcohol and tobacco consumption. It contains a list of patient behaviors and related personalized recommendations and digital health interventions. The interface was designed according to usability principles. Its quality was assessed by a panel of 52 users in a 5-step process: completion of the demographic form, visualization of a short presentation of the app, testing of the app, completion of the user version of the Mobile App Rating Scale (uMARS), and an open group discussion. Results This app assesses patient behaviors through specific questionnaires about 4 risk factors (unhealthy eating, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol, and tobacco consumption) and suggests personalized recommendations and digital health interventions for improving behavior. The app was deemed to be of good quality, with a mean uMARS quality score of 4 on a 5-point Likert scale. The functionality and information content of the app were particularly appreciated, with a mean uMARS score above 4. Almost all the study participants appreciated the navigation system and found the app easy to use. More than three-quarters of the study participants found the app content relevant, concise, and comprehensive. The aesthetics and the engagement of the app were also appreciated (uMARS score, 3.7). Overall, 80% (42/52) of the study participants declared that the app helped them to become aware of the importance of addressing health behavior, and 65% (34/52) said that the app helped motivate them to change lifestyle habits. Conclusions The app assessed the risky behaviors of the patients and delivered personalized recommendations and digital health interventions for multiple risk factors. The quality of the app was considered to be good, but the impact of the app on behavior changes is yet to be demonstrated and will be assessed in further studies.

AbstractPaper-based dietary assessment tools such as food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) and especially dietary screeners are making way for versions that use technology. Amidst low intakes of dairy and dairy-related nutrients in South Africa, and to increase public awareness thereof, we aimed to develop and evaluate the usability of an application (app) to screen for dairy intake in higher income South African adults. In a consultative process, a dairy intake screener (‘Dairy Diary’) was developed as an eight-item quantitative FFQ with four types of commonly consumed local dairy products: milk, maas (fermented milk), yoghurt, and cheese. For each dairy product, usual frequency of consumption and portion size per eating occasion were scored resulting in three risk classes: <1 serving daily; 1≤2 servings daily; ≥2 servings daily. Digitalisation included product- and portion-specific graphics with linkage to risk class-relevant preliminary dairy-related guidance as part of a web-based mobile app. For the evaluation of the usability, the 26-item end-user version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale (uMARS) was used in an online cross-sectional survey (Qualtrics; April 2020). Items were scored on a 5-point Likert-type scale, resulting in three final app scores. From a conveniently recruited sample of 1102, 703 (64%; 81% female; mean age 29.8 ± 11.0 years) were retained for analysis. uMARS-informed descriptive statistics summarise the findings. The uMARS app mean objective quality score (3.9 ± 0.85), app subjective quality score (3.5 ± 0.77), app-specific score (3.6 ± 0.94), and additional question on e-portion (4.3 ± 0.78) met the minimum acceptability score of ≥3.0. For the subscales, the mean score for aesthetics was the highest (4.4 ± 0.82), followed by information (4.3 ± 0.90) and functionality (4.0 ± 1.33). Engagement scored lowest (3.0 ± 1.55). The ‘Dairy Diary’ is a user-friendly screener for dairy intake.

Background Poor oral hygiene is a great public health problem worldwide. Oral health care education is a public health priority as the maintenance of oral hygiene is integral to overall health. Maintaining optimal oral hygiene among children is challenging and can be supported by using relevant motivational approaches. Objective The primary aim of this study was to identify mobile smartphone apps that include gamification features focused on motivating children to learn, perform, and maintain optimal oral hygiene. Methods We searched six online app stores using four search terms (“oral hygiene game,” “oral hygiene gamification,” “oral hygiene brush game,” and “oral hygiene brush gamification”). We identified gamification features, identified whether apps were consistent with evidence-based dentistry, performed a quality appraisal with the Mobile App Rating Scale user version (uMARS), and quantified behavior scores (Behavior Change score, uMARS score, and Coventry, Aberdeen, and London-Refined [CALO-RE] score) using three different instruments that measure behavior change. Results Of 612 potentially relevant apps included in the analysis, 17 met the inclusion criteria. On average, apps included 6.87 (SD 4.18) out of 31 possible gamification features. The most frequently used gamification features were time pressure (16/17, 94%), virtual characters (14/17, 82%), and fantasy (13/17, 76%). The most common oral hygiene evidence-based recommendation was brushing time (2-3 minutes), which was identified in 94% (16/17) of apps. The overall mean uMARS score for app quality was high (4.30, SD 0.36), with good mean subjective quality (3.79, SD 0.71) and perceived impact (3.58, SD 0.44). Sufficient behavior change techniques based on three taxonomies were detected in each app. Conclusions The majority of the analyzed oral hygiene apps included gamification features and behavior change techniques to perform and maintain oral hygiene in children. Overall, the apps contained some educational content consistent with evidence-based dentistry and high-quality background for oral self-care in children; however, there is scope for improvement.

A análise estrutural de um maciço rochoso tem por finalidade fornecer elementos para uma melhor compreensão dos parâmetros de descontinuidades. Salienta-se que o controle destes parâmetros constitui o norte científico para orientar a lavra de rochas ornamentais, pois, as dimensões e qualidade dos blocos obtidos dependem principalmente da natureza e equidistância dos fraturamentos associados à distribuição das tensões atuantes em um maciço rochoso. Neste trabalho, apresenta-se a análise estrutural do Sienito Marrom Imperial, localizado em Umari, zona rural do Município de João Alfredo – PE. Ao fornecer tais informações o responsável técnico poderá definir a melhor sistemática tecnológica no plano de aproveitamento econômico a ser adotado, sem provocar o aparecimento de fraturas de alívio na rocha. Os dados coletados durante a visita técnica constituíram um banco de dados utilizado na determinação das projeções estereográficas (rede de Schmidt) e diagramas de rosetas. A análise do fraturamento mostrou que as fraturas de cisalhamento situam-se nas direções 30º Az e 340º Az. A bissetriz do ângulo formado pelo cruzamento destes cisalhamentos corresponde à direção de compressão máxima atuante representada por 1 e disposta na direção 5°Az. Perpendicularmente a essa, encontra-se a direção de distenção, 3. Com base no exposto pode-se concluir que a melhor orientação de corte, para o desenvolvimento dos trabalhos de abertura da pedreira, de modo a provocar o alivio das tensões e evitar o aparecimento de fraturas durante os serviços de lavra, é a direção SE-NW. Quanto à caracterização tecnológica, os resultados obtidos foram comparados aos estabelecidos pelas normas ABNT NBR 15844:2010, NBR 12042: 1992 e ASTM C 615:1992. Os índices físicos - massa específica aparente seca e saturada, porosidade e absorção aparentes - atenderam satisfatoriamente aos requisitos da ABNT NBR 15844:2010 e americana ASTM C615: 1992. Os resultados dos ensaios de resistência à compressão simples e resistência à flexão quando comparados com os valores requisitados para granitos, mostram que a rocha suporta uma compressão mediana, levemente inferior ao estabelecido por estas normas. Já o ensaio de desgaste Amsler ficou abaixo de 1mm/m, como especificado pela norma brasileira NBR 15844:2010. A avaliação dos ensaios do Marrom Imperial, juntamente com a análise petrográfica, possibilitou um melhor conhecimento da inter-relação dos resultados, e podendo assim relacionar diretamente a uma melhor aplicação do material objeto de estudo. A rocha pode ser aplicada sem restrições, salvo locais úmidos que requerem impermeabilização e de intenso tráfego.
Structural analysis of a rock mass is intended to provide elements for a better understanding of discontinuities parameters. It is noted that the control of these parameters is the scientific north to guide the mining of dimension stones, therefore, the size and quality of the blocks obtained depend mainly on the nature and equidistance of fracturing associated with the distribution of stresses acting on a rock mass. In this paper is presented a structural analysis of the Syenite Brown Imperial, located in Umari, rural municipality of Joao Alfredo - PE. By providing such information the responsible technician can determine the best technology in the systematic economic exploitation plan to be adopted, without causing the onset of relief of fractures in the rock. The data collected during the technical visit constituted a database used in determining the stereographic projections (Schmidt network) and rosettes diagrams. The analysis of fracturing showed that shear fractures are located in directions 30º and Az 340º Az. The bisecting the angle formed by the intersection of these shear is the maximum active compression direction represented by 1 and arranged in 5 ° Az direction. Perpendicular to this, it is the direction of distention, 3. Based on the above it can be concluded that the best cutting guidance for the development of the opening work of the quarry, so as to cause the relief of the stresses and prevent the occurrence of fracture during the mining services is the direction SE- NW. As for technological characterization, the results were compared to the standards established by the NBR 15844: 2010, NBR 12042: 1992 and ASTM C 615: 1992. Physical indices - apparent dry and saturated especific mass, porosity and apparent absorption - satisfactorily met the requirements of NBR 15844: 2010 and American ASTM C615: 1992. The results of tests on the compressive strength and flexural strength when compared to the values required to granites, showed rock that supports a median compression, slightly lower than that established by these standards. However Amsler wear test was less than 1 mm / m, as specified by the Brazilian standard NBR 15844: 2010. The evaluation of the tests of the Imperial Brown, along with petrographic analysis enabled a better understanding of the interrelationship of the results, and thus being able to relate directly to a better implementation of the object of study material. The rock can be applied without restriction, except wet locations that require waterproofing and high traffic.

Background: The epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the pediatric population, with a focus on racial and ethnic disparities and impact of societal public health measures, remains poorly understood. Methods: This large observational study used electronically abstracted data from pediatric (≤ 19 years of age) patients who received a molecular test for SARS-CoV-2 at a UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) site between March 8, 2020 and April 3, 2021 which was further supplemented by manual chart review of a subset of pediatric SARS-CoV-2 cases. Multivariable logistic regression models with interaction terms were used to identify risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Segmented regression analysis using Poisson models was used to estimate the effect of public health measures on the weekly incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Results: A total of 25,426 unique pediatric patients were tested for SARS-CoV-2 among whom 2,920 (11.5%) tested positive. The average age of those who tested positive was 10.8 years (SD: 5.8) and 48.1% were female. In the subset analysis, nearly three-quarters (75.9%) of SARS-CoV-2 diagnoses occurred through a telephone encounter, meaning that the child was not physically examined by a provider prior diagnosis and only 2.0% were admitted for inpatient care at diagnosis. Results of multivariable regression revealed that children or parents who self-reported Black race, Hispanic ethnicity, and non-English primary language were associated with approximately twice the odds of testing positive in comparison with White or English-speaking patients. Furthermore, increasing age was associated with increased odds of testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 (aOR: 1.1 (1-4 years), 1.2 (5-9 years), 1.4 (10-14 years), 1.6 (15-17 years), 1.7 (18-19 years)). However, this association between age and positivity rate, varies by race/ethnicity and primary language such that Non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and non-English speaking children had markedly greater odds of testing positive during adolescence in comparison to Non-Hispanic White and English-speaking counterparts. Results from segmented regression analysis demonstrated a decline in weekly incidence of cases 9.9% (95% CI: 7.8 – 11.9) after the Massachusetts state mask mandate was implemented. During the winter holidays, the rate of increase in the weekly incidence of cases was 12.1% (95% CI: 11.9 – 12.3) in this pediatric population. Conclusions: Many SARS-CoV-2 cases have been diagnosed at UMMHC sites and notable racial/ethnic disparities exist that vary based on patient age. Public health measures are effective at preventing transmission of SARS-CoV-2 among children.

This thesis is a research into the growth in Nigeria of Modern Arabic Literature, from the impact of modern secular thought on the medieval Arabic-Islamic literary tradition. In chapter one the spread to Nigeria of Islam and the growth within its cultural context of Arabic literature are discussed in the light of the classical Arabic literary theory. Cultivated as an integral part of Islamic traditional sciences, Arabic literature throughout its development in Nigeria had remained the function of Islamic religion. All the literary men were essentially Muslim jurists (al-fuqaha') writing in a sacred medium. The various aspects of this religious literary tradition, al-taqlid, are described with illustrations in chapter two. In chapter three the process of how modern European literature had given birth in Egypt and Greater Syria to Modern Arabic Literature, and its major currents are described. Thus inspired, Modern Arabic Literature is not Islamic but Arab nationalist oriented with very little to offer the non-Arab Muslims in the name of the Islamic Commonwealth. The non-Arab Muslims have accordingly embarked on developing their own national literature in English, French or a vernacular. This phenomenon, seen in Turkey, Iran and Senegal is also demonstrated in Nigeria by the birth of modern Hausa literature instead of Arabic. This development is discussed in chapter four within the context of the Western cultural impact on Islamic Nigeria. But the study of Arabic and Islamic religion in secular institutions imposed by modern political order has begun to challenge the existing religious literary tradition. Nigeria has now produced some Arabists, including Christians, in whose literary innovations Arabic language and literature is no longer an exclusive function of Islamic culture. Influenced by neo-classical Arab writers, the most outstanding contribution to this new trend is the diwan (anthology) of 'Umar Ibrahim, the literary exposition of which is made in chapter five. In conclusion, the scope of the literary innovations introduced into Nigerian Arabic literature is highlighted with an attempt to determine its prospect.

This thesis examines the concept of multiculturalism and its equivalence in Islam. It investigates the Islamic core sources of the Qur'an and Sunnah (Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad) in relation to the ‘other’, i.e. those who are seen as different. In this view, the thesis looks into the Qur'anic injunctions and those Prophetic traditions that deal with issues concerned with the treatment of non-Muslims, their status in Islam, and the Islamic codes of ethics and conduct that outline the basics of the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims, with a particular reference to Ahl Al-Kitāb, i.e. the People of the Book, in multicultural diverse context. By highlighting these issues the thesis aims to explore the Islamic theoretical concept of multiculturalism and the contribution this framework can make to diverse multicultural societies in our present time. To draw on the application part of the Qur'anic perspective in relation to others, this work examines two historical documents that represent the early Muslim applications of the Qur'anic code of conduct with regards to non-Muslims. The first is the “document of Madīnah” which was concluded by the Prophet Muhammad in the first year of Hijrah (622 CE) in the context of Madīnah of Arabia. The second document is ‘Umar’s Assurance of Safety’ that was granted by the second Caliph ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattāb to the Christians of Aelia (Jerusalem) shortly after the first Muslim conquest of 637 CE. The objective of this study is to create a paradigm through which Islam as a major religion can contribute to the discourse of multiculturalism in terms of building bridges between Muslims and their non-Muslim fellows. This work investigates how Islam looks at difference and diversity and the basics on which the relation between Muslims and non-Muslims stands.

Resumo: A presente tese é um estudo sobre mulheres que se relacionam afetiva e/ou sexualmente com mulheres, realizado a partir da cidade de São Paulo. O foco analítico recai sobre as relações que se estabelecem entre práticas eróticas, identidades, corporalidades e convenções sociais acerca de gênero e sexualidade, enfatizando a intersecção entre diversos eixos de diferenciação social. A pesquisa em campo foi conduzida de modo a obter a maior diversidade possível em termos de classe, geração, "raça"/cor, trajetórias e identidades afetivo-sexuais. Para tanto, realizou-se observação etnográfica no circuito comercial de lazer paulistano freqüentado por essas mulheres e em espaços privativos de sociabilidade, complementada por entrevistas em profundidade. A fim de diversificar os estilos e identidades acessados e evitar a associação de uma "comunidade" a espaços delimitados, realizou-se ainda observação e entrevistas com mulheres integrantes de duas redes: as jovens que se classificam como "minas do rock" e as freqüentadoras de um clube voltado para a prática do BDSM (bondage, disciplina, dominação e submissão, sadismo e masoquismo). Para além do diálogo teórico no interior dos estudos de gênero e sexualidade nas Ciências Sociais, este estudo procura oferecer subsídios para debates sobre as demandas por direitos humanos e por formulação de políticas públicas para sujeitos políticos específicos
Abstract: The present thesis is a study conducted primarily in the city of Sao Paulo and concerns women who have affective and/or sexual relationships with other women. The analytical focus is based on relations between erotic practices, identities, corporalities and social conventions related to gender and sexuality, emphasizing the intersection between several axes of social differentiation. The research was conducted in order to obtain a field as diverse as possible on variables such as class, gender, race/color and sexual-affective trajectories and identities. Aiming to achieve this goal, an ethnographic observation was conducted in the commercial circuit of leisure where these women could be found and also in private spaces of sociability. The ethnographic observation was complemented by indepth interviews. In order to diversify styles and identities accessed, as well as to avoid an association of a "community" linked to delimited spaces, observation and interviews were also done with women identified with two other networks: young women who classify themselves as "minas do rock" (riot grrrls) and women who attend to a BDSM club (bondage, discipline, domination and submission, sadism and masochism). Beyond the theoretical dialogue inside gender and sexuality studies in Social Sciences, this study aims to contribute to debates about human rights and public policies demands for specific political subjects

Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a coluna de jornal denominada ...umas, assinada pela artista Lenora de Barros no Jornal da Tarde, de São Paulo, entre 1993 e 1996. Nesta coluna foram veiculadas imagens de suas obras e de outros artistas, bem como poemas visuais e experimentações gráficas, extrapolando o caráter informativo do jornalismo impresso. A pesquisa se deu através da análise de edições de ...umas, mantidas por Lenora de Barros como arquivo em seu ateliê, e de outras obras suas. A artista retomou diversas proposições publicadas em ...umas em seu processo de criação atual, desdobrando assim a coluna ...umas em novas obras. Desta forma, são abordados os deslocamentos entre a coluna de jornal e outros espaços legitimados do sistema das artes. A coluna ...umas é considerada neste estudo sob três principais aspectos: como coluna de jornal, como proposição artística e como arquivo. Evidencia-se, nesta análise, que a mesma traz uma concepção singular de apresentação da arte, pois inseriu-se em um veículo de comunicação e não em uma instituição museológica.
This study’s goal is to analyze the newspaper column titled …umas, by the artist Lenora de Barros, published in the Jornal da Tarde, from São Paulo, between 1993 and 1996. In this column were published images of works by Lenora de Barros’ and of other artists, as well as visual poems and graphic experiments, extrapolating the informative features of the newspaper media. This research occurred through the analysis of works by Lenora de Barros and of different editions of …umas, kept as an archive in the artist’s studio. Taking into account that de Barros has resumed several propositions originally published in …umas in her current creative process, unfolding this column into new works, the displacements between newspaper column and other legitimized spaces in the art system are discussed in this study. Therefore, …umas is considered under three main features: as a newspaper column, as an artistic proposition and as an archive. This analysis points to the fact that …umas has a particular conception of the artwork’s appearance, for it was inserted in a communication vehicle and not in a museum institution.

Streszczenie:

A decade ago, the architecture department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst partnered with the Yestermorrow Design Build School to envision and create a study-away design/build semester experience. This program has flourished since then, and the tenth anniversary year provides a logical moment for celebration and reflection. This presentation showcases the work of the past decade, and highlights the ways in which novel goals and aspirations underpin this particular collaboration.
