Not being a string player himself, Mark-Anthony Turnage approached his first concerto for a string instrument with some trepidation. It turns out that while the writing for the viola is idiomatic enough, Turnage has something of a love/hate relationship with traditional ideas about the concerto. Divided into two movements – Turnage admitted that in the unlikely event of his writing a symphony it would have three, five or six movements, never four – the new concerto (completed in 2001 and here given its UK première) has the expected cadenza but one that appears only 36 bars in! Such challenging attitudes to an old form characterize the new piece, subtitled On Opened Ground. Even so the work's structure – scherzando opening with slower coda, slow second movement and brisk chaconne finale – bring us back to the more usual reference points for a concerto. While he acknowledges the surprising influence of Walton ‘in the second movement’, the influence of that composer's own viola concerto is actually more pervasive than Turnage would have us believe. Even the title, while apparently making reference to Seamus Heaney's collection Opened Ground, seems to point more fruitfully to the ground bass of the second movement's chaconne. One thing is certainly as described: On Opened Ground is, as he claims, one of Turnage's most lyrical pieces and might win him an audience for whom the earlier astrigencies were too great.

In fulfillment of a commission from the BBC for a work in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the BBC Symphony Chorus, Mark-Anthony Turnage produced Calmo, an untypically quiet and gentle work for chorus with handbells – and, what has become something of a signature instrument for him, desk bells. The text of the work consists of the words ‘Dona nobis pacem’ and their translations in several languages. It is dedicated to the memory of Turnage's friend Sue Knussen. Calmo's intense eloquence was enhanced by its brevity, and, both despite and because of it, stood out in a program of music for chorus, harp, and organ by an assortment of older and newer Czech and British Composers, including Janáček, MacMillan, Holst, and Eben, presented by the BBC Symphony Chorus, conducted by Stephen Jackson.

Even Turnage himself expressed doubts initially about whether his music was diverse enough to withstand such exposure. His worries were unfounded, as the chance to explore his recent output, in particular, revealed a composer who is constantly growing in stature and breaking out in new and fruitful directions.

In a baffling case of unhelpful scheduling, major new works by Mark-Anthony Turnage were showcased by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra in concerts held at the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool and London's Barbican, respectively, on the same evening – 7 February 2013. Apart from necessitating an explanation for the composer's absence from the RLPO concert in their season's programme book, this double booking resulted in audiences being unable to experience live performances of two of Turnage's most substantial recent orchestral pieces. Surely one of these significant premières could have been rescheduled to another date – or, if not, a different time of day, creating a sporting chance to experience both events? Fortunately, the LSO concert was broadcast, enabling those of us who chose to attend the Liverpool concert to catch the London première retrospectively.

Way back in the mists of time, in the decade when I was a card-carrying Prommer (1977–87), the BBC used to arrange (and maybe still does) a meeting between us regular Prommers and the Controller, Music – the man whose choices governed two months of our lives every year. Robert Ponsonby was the incumbent when I first had a season ticket and John Drummond was at the helm when I left London for a job in Paris. We never had the impression that anything we said made a blind bit of difference, but at least it allowed us to get things off our chests; all the Controller had to do was fend off our questions and comments with the oiliness then customary with the high functionaries of the BBC (they're all wonderful now, of course) and our silence was obtained for another year. (I remember Drummond contemptuously dismissing the music of Respighi as being beneath the dignity of the institution; Roger Wright, I gratefully note, does not share Drummond's snobbish ignorance, but I also note that neither the Concerto gregoriano for violin and orchestra nor Metamorphosen, both orchestral masterpieces, has yet been heard there.)

Robin Holloway's brief illustrative list of composers who populate the ‘continuing or reconstructed mainstream’ begins in Britain, with ‘Tippett and Britten, hence Maw and both Matthewses’ and ends with the broader international sweep of ‘Takemitsu, Knussen and Lieberson (stemming equally from serialism à la Berg and à la late Stravinsky); hence Lindberg, Benjamin, Turnage, Anderson, Adès and all’. Whilst these groupings, which position David Matthews and Thomas Adès towards opposing ends of the continuum, might be inadvertent, the premieres of their latest works, given over consecutive (and swelteringly hot) nights in July, would appear to strengthen such a polarity.

John Lambert, who celebrated his 60th birthday in 1986, is known better as a teacher than as a composer, and despite a formidable list of past pupils, which includes the likes of Javier Alvarez, Simon Bainbridge, Gary Carpenter, Oliver Knussen, Jonathan Lloyd, Ian McQueen, and Mark-Anthony Turnage, that is a situation he and many others view as slightly unfair. His output is not especially prodigious—excluding the chamber opera, A Family Affair, to be performed at the Brighton Festival this year the numbered oeuvres run to 26 in all—yet the quality and frequently the bold originality of his music, readily acknowledged by colleagues like Ligeti and Dutilleux, surely merits wider acknowledgement than it has as yet received.

Mark Anthony Turnage's Frieze – performed by the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, conducted by Vasily Petrenko, on 11 August – and Nashit Kahn's The Gate of the Moon, a concerto for sitar and orchestra – performed by Kahn himself with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by David Atherton on 12 August – both raise the question of how, in a new piece, one can meaningfully reference other music. Turnage's work was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society to celebrate the organisation's bicentennial and to share a programme as their most famous and, probably, greatest commission, the Beethoven Ninth Symphony; this shorter work, which is clearly modelled on the Beethoven in its general layout, is a sort of gloss in Turnage's own language on the older one. Kahn's concerto brings together an orchestra of western instruments and a single Indian one and aims at joining their indigenous musical languages in a meaningful way.

Our laboratory previously demonstrated that MAPK activation is an important signal during cytokine-induced endothelial permeability (Nwariaku FE, Liu Z, Terada L, Duffy S, Sarosi G, and Turnage R. Shock 18: 82-85, 2002). Because GTP-binding proteins have been implicated in MAPK activation, we now hypothesize that the GTP-binding protein Rho is a mediator of TNF-induced MAPK activation and increased endothelial permeability. Transmonolayer permeability was assessed in human lung microvascular cells by measuring transmonolayer electrical resistance. MAPK activity was assessed by using a phospho-specific immunoprecipitation kinase assay and by comparing Western blots for phospho-MAPK with total MAPK. MAPK inhibitors used were SB-202190 and PD-098059, whereas Clostridium botulinum C3 transferase was used as a Rho inactivator. Rho-associated coiled-coil kinase was inhibited with Y-27632. TNF increased pulmonary endothelial permeability in vitro and caused a rapid, sustained increase in endothelial p38 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase MAPK activity. Inhibition of p38 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase MAPK with SB-202190 and PD-098059, respectively, decreased TNF-induced endothelial permeability. C3 transferase attenuated TNF-induced MAPK activation and blocked TNF-induced endothelial permeability. Finally, inhibition of Rho-associated coiled-coil kinase with Y-27632 prevented both MAPK activation and TNF-induced decreases in transmonolayer resistance. Rho acts upstream of mitogen-activated protein kinases in mediating TNF-induced pulmonary endothelial leak.

Physiol.82(2): 530–536, 1997.—This study examines the hypothesis that intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury contributes to renal dysfunction by altered renal eicosanoid release. Anesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats underwent 60 min of sham or superior mesenteric artery (SMA) occlusion with 60 min of reperfusion. The I/R groups received either allopurinol, pentoxifylline, 1-benzylimidazole, or carrier before SMA occlusion. In vivo renal artery blood flow was measured by Transonic flow probes, the kidneys were then perfused in vitro for 30 min, and the effluent was analyzed for eicosanoid release and renal function. Intestinal I/R caused a twofold increase in the ratio of renal release of thromboxane B2to prostaglandin E2and to 6-ketoprostaglandin F1αcompared with the sham level, with a corresponding 25% decrease in renal sodium and inulin clearance and renal blood flow. Pentoxifylline or allopurinol pretreatment restored renal eicosanoid release and renal sodium and inulin clearance to the sham level but did not alter renal blood flow. Pretreatment with 1-benzylimidazole restored renal function, eicosanoid release, and renal blood flow to sham levels. These data suggest that severe intestinal I/R contributes to the downregulation of renal function. The decrease in renal function is due in part to toxic oxygen metabolites, which occur in the milieu of altered renal eicosanoid release, reflecting a decrease in vasodilator and an increase in vasoconstrictor eicosanoids.

Physiol. 82(2): 592–598, 1997.—This study examines the hypothesis that intestinal reperfusion (IR)-induced pulmonary thromboxane A2(TxA2) release increases local microvascular permeability and induces pulmonary vasoconstriction. Sprague-Dawley rats underwent 120 min of intestinal ischemia and 60 min of IR. Sham-operated animals (Sham) served as controls. After IR or Sham, the pulmonary vessels were cannulated, and the lungs were perfused in vitro with Krebs buffer. Microvascular permeability was quantitated by determining the filtration coefficient ( K f), and pulmonary arterial (Ppa), venous (Ppv), and capillary (Ppc) pressures were measured to calculate vascular resistance (Rt). After baseline measurements, imidazole (TxA2 synthase inhibitor) or SQ-29,548 (TxA2-receptor antagonist) was added to the perfusate; then K f, Ppa, Ppv, and Ppc were again measured. The K fof lungs from IR animals was four times greater than that of Sham ( P = 0.001), and Rt was 63% greater in the injured group ( P = 0.01). Pc of IR lungs was twice that of controls (5.4 ± 1.0 vs. 2.83 ± 0.3 mmHg, IR vs. Sham, respectively; P < 0.05). Imidazole or SQ-29,548 returned K fto baseline measurements ( P < 0.05) and reduced Rt by 23 and 17%, respectively ( P < 0.05). IR-induced increases in Pc were only slightly reduced by 500 μg/ml imidazole (14%; P = 0.05) but unaffected by lower doses of imidazole (5 or 50 μg/ml) or SQ-29,548. These data suggest that IR-induced pulmonary edema is caused by both increased microvascular permeability and increased hydrostatic pressure and that these changes are due, at least in part, to the ongoing release of TxA2.

Pembelajaran yang diperkirakan mampu meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa dengan menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar. Tujuan penelitian ini: mengetahui proses belajar mengajar dengan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar; mengetahui kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika dengan pembelajaran active learning teknik turnamen belajar; mengetahui kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa yang menggunakan model konvensional; perbedaan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa yang menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan model konvensional pada sub pokok bahasan kubus dan balok. Adapun hasil yang diperoleh: persentase rata-rata aktivitas siswa pada tiap pertemuannya meningkat yaitu dari pertemuan I (56,69%) ke pertemuan II (61,61%) ke pertemuan III (63,40%). dari pengolahan data hasil posttest kelas VIIIA sebagai kelas eksperimen, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar diperoleh rata-rata 81,06% dengan kriteria penilaian tinggi; kelas VIIIA sebagai kelas kontrol dengan menggunakan model konvensional kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa rata-ratanya adalah 74,44% dengan kriteria penilaian cukup; berdasarkan hasil perhitungan menggunakan SPSS 16.0 for window diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar lebih baik dibandingkan pembelajaran dengan model konvensional pada sub pokok kubus dan balok sehingga dapat meninggkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa.

. Pembelajaran yang diperkirakan mampu meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa dengan menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar. Tujuan penelitian ini: mengetahui proses belajar mengajar dengan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar; mengetahui kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika dengan pembelajaran active learning teknik turnamen belajar; mengetahui kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa yang menggunakan model konvensional; perbedaan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa yang menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan model konvensional pada sub pokok bahasan kubus dan balok. Adapun hasil yang diperoleh: persentase rata-rata aktivitas siswa pada tiap pertemuannya meningkat yaitu dari pertemuan I (56,69%) ke pertemuan II (61,61%) ke pertemuan III (63,40%). dari pengolahan data hasil posttest kelas VIIIA sebagai kelas eksperimen, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika menggunakan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar diperoleh rata-rata 81,06% dengan kriteria penilaian tinggi; kelas VIIIA sebagai kelas kontrol dengan menggunakan model konvensional kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa rata-ratanya adalah 74,44% dengan kriteria penilaian cukup; berdasarkan hasil perhitungan menggunakan SPSS 16.0 for window diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model active learning teknik turnamen belajar lebih baik dibandingkan pembelajaran dengan model konvensional pada sub pokok kubus dan balok sehingga dapat meninggkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pengaruh skema insentif turnamen terhadap esklasi komitmen, pengaruh pernyataan diri terhadap eskalasi komitmen, dan pengaruh moderasi pernyataan diri terhadap hubungan antara skema insentif turnamen terhadap eskalasi komitmen. Oleh karna itu, membutuhkan sebuah wadah tempat rekreasi yang baru di tengah – tengah tempat rekreasi yang sudah ada di kota Jakarta ini khususnya untuk tempat bermain dengan teknologi yang tengah berkembang saat ini namun masih belum memiliki wadah khusus. Tempat bermain dengan teknologi yang tengah berkembang saat ini salah satunya ialah E-sport. E-sport ini sendiri adalah sebuah jenis permainan yang tengah sangat berkembang di seluruh penjuru dunia dan juga tentunya di Indonesia juga, namun belum memiliki sebuah wadah yang khusus untuk kita bisa menikmati bersama E-sport itu , khususnya di kota Jakarta yang sangat padat ini. E-Sport ini sendiri menunjukan perkembangan yang sangat pesat di Indonesia. Salah satunya adalah cabang E-sport yang di perlombakan pada ajang Asean Games 2018. Untuk itu penulis mengkaji dan menganalisis tentang E-sport ini sendiri untuk dapat merancang sebuah wadah E-sport yang belum ada di Jakarta. Adapun mahasiswa yang menjadi target utama dalam kegiatan ini adalah mahasiswa/mahasiswi PJKR yang berada pada semester III dan V. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan memberikan kesempatan kepada mahasiswa untuk terlibat langsung dalam semua kegiatan dengan bimbingan dan arahan dalam praktik yang dilakukan oleh tim pengabdi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan konsentrasi dan keaktifan belajar matematika konsep gradien dan persamaan garis lurus pada siswa kelas VIII A SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Depok, dengan menerapkan model kooperatif tipe Team Group Turnamen (TGT). Data penelitian tindakan kelas diperoleh dengan cara: pengamatan, rekaman proses pembelajaran, serta angket siswa. Data yang telah dikumpulkan pada siklus I, didiskusikan bersama kolaborator, kemudian dilakukan tindakan perbaikan pada siklus II. Data yang dikumpulkan pada siklus I dan II dibandingkan, dibahas, dan disimpulkan, bahwa ada peningkatan presentasi aktif dari 69% menjadi 87%, diskusi kelompok dari 60% menjadi 90%, aktivitas peserta games turnamen dari 60% menjadi 94 %, serta hasil pengisian angket refleksi dari 72% menjadi 75%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Model kooperatif tipe TGT dapat meningkatkan konsentrasi dan keaktifan belajar matematika siswa pada konsep gradien dan persamaan garis lurus di kelas VIII A SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Depok Sleman rata-rata peningkatan dari 65% menjadi 84%. Hasil capaian ini diatas kriteria yang ditetapkan 75%. Sehingga model Kooperatif tipe TGT dapat dijadikan alternatif dalam pembelajaran matematika karena siswa akan lebih konsentrasi, aktif, dan menyenangi matematika karena ada unsur games turnamen.

This paper proposes an odor source localization method based on bionic olfaction. The special nasal cavity and turnable head make mammalian have excellent odor source localization ability. According to this principle, a turnable bionic odor sensing device is proposed by this paper for odor source localization system. This sensing device can rotate freely within the range level 360°, and the detection directions of its sensing channels are different. This also proposes a pattern recognition algorithm based on K-L transform to analyze the data collected by odor sensing device, and the features of odor source are extracted correctly. Experimental results for odor source localization demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS) siswa dengan penerapan model kooperatif tim game turnamen (TGT) di kelas IV Sekolah Dasar Negeri 011 Kembang Harum Kecamatan Pasir Penyu Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (Classroom Action Research) yang mencakup kegiatan perencanaan (planning), tindakan (action), observasi (observation), refleksi (reflection) atau evaluasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, dilihat dari skor dasar hasil belajar siswa memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 63.21 dengan ketuntasan sebesar 48.7%, pada siklus I nilai rata-rata siswa sebesar 72.61 dengan ketuntasan 74.3%, dan pada siklus II nilai rata-rata siswa sebesar 85.71 dengan ketuntasan 87.1%. dengan hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa dengan menerapakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tim game turnamen (TGT) dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar IPS siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar Negeri 011 Kembang Harum Kecamatan Pasir Penyuh Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu. ABSTRACTThis study aims to improve the learning outcomes of students' Social Sciences by applying the cooperative model of the tournament game team in class IV of the Primary School 011 Kembang Harum, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu. This research is a classroom action research that includes planning, action, observation, reflection or evaluation activities. The results showed, seen from the basic score of student learning outcomes obtained an average value of 63.21 with completeness of 48.7%, in the first cycle the average value of students was 72.61 with completeness 74.3%, and in the second cycle the average value of students was 85.71 with 87.1% completeness. with these results it can be concluded that by applying the cooperative learning model the tournament game team can improve social studies learning outcomes of fourth grade students of 011 Kembang Harum Primary School Pasir Penyuh District, Indragiri Hulu.Keywords: tim game turnamen (TGT), Social Sciences learning outcomes.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik kelas VIIE pada materi greeting, taking leave, thanking dan apologizing. Pada kondisi awal, pembelajaran yang dilakukan menggunakan metode ceramah. Pembelajaran membosankan dan kurang merangsang pikiran dan minat peserta didik, banyak yang kurang memperhatikan dan kurang memahami materi yang disampaikan. Hal ini mengakibatkan nilai rata-rata pretest sebesar 59,87 dengan ketuntasan belajar 39,39 %. Berdasarkan kondisi tersebut, maka penulis membuat sebuah inovasi pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran ‘turnamen dalam permainan tradisional boy boyan’ agar materi lebih mudah dipahami. Teknik pengumpulan datanya menggunakan tes dan non tes. Tes untuk mengukur hasil belajar dan tingkat pemahaman peserta didik, non tes untuk mengukur validasi alat peraga atau media dan materi yang dipelajari, respon peserta didik terhadap pembelajaran yang telah dilakukan, kualitas guru dalam pembelajaran dan validasi instrumen tes. Instrumen tes berupa soal pertanyaan dan non tes berupa angket atau kuesioner. Data hasil tes ditabulasikan dalam persentase dianalisis dengan deskriptif komparatif. Turnamen dalam permainan tradisional boy boyan diaplikasikan pada peserta didik kelas VIIE SMP Negeri 2 Merbau Mataram Semester Ganjil Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019 berjumlah 33 orang, terdiri dari 17 orang laki-laki dan 16 orang perempuan. Hasil aplikasi menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata hasil belajar sebesar 74,93 dengan ketuntasan belajar 62,50%, berarti terjadi peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 37,50 dan ketuntasan belajar 23,11%. Berdasarkan hasil analisis disimpulkan bahwa Turnamen dalam permainan tradisional boy boyan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik kelas VIIE SMP Negeri 2 Merbau Mataram semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2018/2019.

Ciptaan dalam bentuk suara tidak diatur secara jelas apakah termasuk bentuk ciptaan yang dapat dilindungi oleh hak cipta menurut ketentuan yang ada di dalam Undang-Undang Nomor 28 Tahun 2014 Tentang Hak Cipta. Hal ini berimbas kepada suara komentator yang ada di dalam turnamen game DOTA 2 yang tidak menemukan kejelasan apakah termasuk ciptaan yang dapat dilindungi oleh Hak Cipta. Valve Corporation sebagai pemilik dari game DOTA 2 mengambil kesempatan dari hal tersebut dan memperjualbelikan suara komentator tanpa sepengetahuan dari komentator yang diambil suaranya tersebut. Valve Corporation yang memperjualbelikan suara tersebut mempunyai peluang unuk dikatakan sebagai pelanggaran di dalam bidang Hak Cipta. Di dalam skripsi ini menggunakan metode penulisan doctrinal research yakni dengan mengacu kepada bahan hukum primer dan sekunder seperti peraturan perundang-undangan. Skripsi ini akan membahas suara komentator dari segi perlindungan Hak Cipta dan akan menganalisis apakah kegiatan jual beli yang dilakukan oleh Valve Corporation termasuk pelanggaran Hak Cipta serta metode penyelesaian sengketa di bidang Hak Cipta.
