Foodborne pathogens pose a significant hazard to food safety. Most cases of foodborne illnesses are caused by bacterial pathogens that have infiltrated the food chain at some point, from farm to kitchen. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately one-third of individuals in developed countries are affected by foodborne pathogens each year. Although there are studies on Hypericum perforatum L. in the literature, research in Turkey remains limited. Therefore, the aim is to contribute to the literature by studying H. perforatum samples from the Yaraş region of Muğla province in Turkey. This study specifically aims to investigate the antimicrobial activities against foodborne pathogens and the antioxidant activity of H. perforatum in Muğla. The in vitro antimicrobial activities of flower components from plants grown in Mugla were evaluated using the disc diffusion method and broth dilution test. Additionally, the extracts underwent ABTS (2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethyl benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) free-radical testing to evaluate their antioxidant activity. The extract exhibited a maximum inhibition zone of 16 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes. Notably, S. aureus and L. monocytogenes demonstrated the lowest sensitivity to H. perforatum methanol extract (1625 µg/mL). The methanol extract displayed moderate antioxidant activity, with a 53% ABTS radical scavenging capacity. Consequently, the extracts of H. perforatum exhibited both antimicrobial and antioxidant potential.

Tourism is an important economic activity in our country as it is all around the world. It is also defined as an industry which is related to other economical sectors. Therefore, governments need to manage, develop and market the tourism facilities so that tourism industry can help economical growth effectively. Tourism planning means to manage large amount of data. Therefore, it is desirable to integrate Geographic Information Systems and also Remote Sensing to planning. The aim of the thesis is to define how to increase the contributions of GIS for site selection purposes for new tourism types. The case study is chosen as Bodrum Peninsula that is the hearth of Turkey in tourism sector. The fast and unplanned tourism development is causing some problems in nature, transportation, social and technical infrastructure of Bodrum. Summer houses, hotels, holiday villages are built up increasingly, so a huge difference occurs between winter (97.000) and summer (1.500.000) populations, which produce one of the reasons for problems. In this study, new tourism types, which are camping, caravanning, grass-skiing, site-parachuting and biking activities, are suggested in Bodrum Peninsula. Site selection process for these types is performed according to the requirements defined by the Youth and Sport Association. Slope, aspect, and proximity analyses are performed in order to find the suitable areas for each tourism type. Then, analytical hierarchy process technique is used to give weight to each criterion to emphasize their effects. Finally, site selection results are compared with the environmental plan.

This chapter aims to analyze the renewable energy production and economic evaluation of five MW solar power plant installations in Turkey using the RETScreen program. For this purpose, all provinces of Turkey are analyzed first in terms of their global radiation values. Provinces with a global radiation value less than 1620 kWh / m2 per year have been eliminated, and the analysis proceeded with 45 provinces. The study includes three different scenarios. The first is based only on the government's guarantee of purchase. The second adds the greenhouse gas reduction incentive to the first scenario. The third scenario adds domestic production incentives to the first and second scenarios. According to the first scenario analysis, the payback period is 5.553 years for Muğla and 6.530 years for Antalya. According to the second scenario, the payback period is 5.230 years for Muğla and 6.184 years for Antalya. Finally, in terms of the third scenario, the payback period is 3.479 years for Muğla and 4.101 years for Antalya.

Throughout the membership process of the EU, Turkey has undergone various transformations in public administration structure. For this reason, the financial and public transformation experienced by Turkey in the Europeanization process must be evaluated. Financial localization and financial sustainability (FS) in local governments are one of the reflections of this transformation. Despite being a non-profit structure, financial sustainability seems to be extremely important in terms of local government units. Financial and economic crises, especially those at global level, have highlighted the need to address FS in non-profit bodies. In the light of the above-mentioned explanations, this chapter analyses the potential correlation between organizational structure and FS in Turkish Local Government—focusing on 14 municipalities in Muğla City—by conducting in-debt interviews. Therefore, the main aim of this chapter is to show the interest of local governments to use voluntary reporting, in terms of ethical-social-environmental, as a tool for financial sustainability.

"During the National Struggle, Muğla was occupied by the Italians on 23 July 1919. The importance of Muğla is that it is a border to the Greek occupation area. For this reason, thousands of Turks who had to migrate from the Greek occupation zone took refuge in the Menteşe Sanjak. The people of Menteşe provided great assistance in hosting these immigrants and meeting their needs. During the War of Independence, Muğla gave great support to the National Struggle movement initiated in Anatolia under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. This support has been done in several ways. First of all, all kinds of needs of Kuvȃ-yı Milliye (National Forces) units were met. Two leaders of National Forces, Demirci Mehmet Efe and Yörük Ali Efe frequently visited Muğla and met their needs from here. Muğla was the center of the Kuvȃ-yı Milliye units fighting against the Greeks in Aydın Province. The support of the people of Muğla to the National Struggle is not limited to this. Representatives of Muğla have also attended local and national congresses. Representatives of the Menteşe Sanjak also served in the last Assembly in Istanbul and the Turkish Grand National Assembly opened in Ankara. The people of Muğla also supported the National Struggle with the newspapers Menteşe and Anadolu’da İnkılȃb."

Humour has always been prevalent in Muslim communities. This chapter examines various aspects of Islam, Muslims and humour with an emphasis on humour in popular culture today. The focus is on humour performed by comedians with a Muslim background rather than humour about Muslims from non- Muslims. First, a historical context from the Muslim world is presented, including the many humorous stories about the figure Mulla Nasruddin who lived 700 years ago in what is now Turkey. The main part of the chapter, however, concerns Muslim humour in a modern context, including both humour in the Muslim world today and Muslim humour in the West. Muslim stand-up comedians, represented by the American comedian group Allah Made Me Funny, and humour about and with Muslims in sitcoms, such as the Canadian series Little Mosque on the Prairie, are examined.

In this study, the concentrations of Se were determined in muscle and liver of chickens, white part of eggs, and yellow part of eggs by using Microwave digestion and Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (HG-AAS). The samples of farm chickens, village grouse chickens, and eggs of them were collected from the Mugla region of Turkey. To confirm the accuracy of this method, DOLT 5 Dogfish Liver was used as standard reference material. The concentrations of Se in muscle and liver from samples of chicken and village grouse chicken were found as the lowest not determined and the highest 1.88 mg/kg. The average concentrations of Se in the samples of the yellow part of the farm chicken eggs and the village grouse chicken eggs were determined as 0.44 and 0.88 mg/kg, respectively.
