Abstract. The purpose. Modern challenges faced by hop growers in Russia and the Czech Republic are quite similar. Parallels in development are especially obvious with those subjects where the industry has been developing historically, for example, with the Chuvash Republic. Therefore, the purpose of the work was to study the organization of hop production in the Czech Republic, review and analyze the main challenges, as well as identify ways to solve them, implemented in the Czech Republic. Methods. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study was the works of Czech scientists, the country's legislation. The official Internet resources of state and public structures of the Czech Republic became the information base. Scientific novelty. The study of ways to organize production and solve modern problems of hop growing by scientists, social activists and producers of the Czech Republic will serve as a good information base for domestic representatives of the industry. Results. To solve the problems with the obsolescence of hopspalers in the Czech Republic, it is proposed to replace them with shorter ones, which will reduce the cost of their maintenance and simplify mechanical processes. So that these changes do not reduce the volume of harvesting in the country, new varieties of hops are being developed. There are 12 of them in total, but 11 new varieties are expected to be introduced into circulation. Now the most popular and world-famous Czech variety is Saaz, which accounts for about 88% of the total hop area in the country. The high capital intensity of the industry requires large expenditures for any innovation. According to the calculations of Czech scientists, the commissioning and maintenance of a 50-hectare hop-growing field will cost 3.7 million euros. Therefore, an important aspect of the development of the industry in the Czech Republic is the availability of investment support from the state. Another distinguishing feature of the Czech hop industry is the involvement of 113 farmers in a single cooperative “Hop Growing”, which accounts for 90 % of the market share. All industry innovations and innovative solutions in the country are introduced into production through the cooperative.

Abstract Health technology assessment (HTA) has become the systematic evaluation of health technology’s properties and effects that inform decision-makers. The implementation and expansion of HTA can contribute to slowing down burgeoning healthcare costs. In the Czech Republic, elements of HTA are quite standardly used in pharmacoeconomics, but questions arise on the use of HTA of medical devices. The theoretical framework developed is followed by a case study of the Czech Republic to assess whether the use of HTA of medical devices in the Czech Republic is implemented. This study uses publicly available resources, mainly public health acts and public notices related to HTA. We examined the institutionalisation of HTA for medical devices (HTA applied only at a selected area of medical devices) in the Czech Republic and compared Czech’s HTA principles of medical devices to the HTA Core Model. It was found that the HTA process used for medical devices is very limited in the Czech Republic. Our data show that HTA was officially established, but in reality, the medical devices have not been assessed following HTA principles.

The number of students at Czech universities had been growing continuously until 2010. In 2010, almost 400,000 students studied there. Since then, this number has declined every year. Pressure on present-day universities has been accruing due to the competitive environment. The only way to strengthen competitiveness is to improve constantly the quality and image. The objective of this paper is to verify what factors are important for students regarding their satisfaction and what factors could be key for supporting the competitiveness of the Czech universities. To assess student satisfaction, the authors conducted a questionnaire survey where students were asked to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the faculty. The survey was carried out within the Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno (FBE MENDELU) and a selected private university in Brno in 2019. Relative frequencies were used in data processing and statistical hypotheses were tested. In addition to the basic classification according to one feature, a combination classification was also processed, and the independence was tested for different combinations of questions. Of the total number (1,020) of identified strengths at FBE MENDELU, 57.7% of students stated, “quality teachers”, 32.4% “faculty image” and 31.8% “modern environment” as strengths. Regarding the identified weaknesses, the most frequently mentioned were “study difficulty (42.4%),” weaker image of the university with the public “(31.5%) and not enough practical training (23.2%). At the private college, 47.8% of respondents cited “quality teachers”, “interesting lectures and teaching methods” (40.8%) and “study materials for subjects” (29.4%) as the school’s strengths. AbstractThe topic of this contribution is a comparison of the research & development related to the “key enabling technologies” (KETs) in the Czech Republic and the European Union as a whole with selected non-European economies. A further aim of this article is an appraisal of the effect of the European strategies and action programmes which have been implemented since the turn of the decade and which target the lagging of EU in innovations in critical technologies. We use the publication and the patent activities as a proxy to assess the intensity of the KETs oriented R&D. The Asian countries Japan, South Korea and the fast growing China have the highest fraction of KETs oriented publications and patents in their national output. The Chinese State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) recorded in 2015 a half of the world patent applications related to KETs. Measured by their share of publications, the Asian countries exhibit a significantly more intensive R&D in the majority of KETs. Whereas the patent activity of the Asian countries grows the number of patent applications in the EU stagnates in the recent years and EU visibly lags behind the Asian competitors. The EU R&D policies and strategies aimed at the promotion of KET and the financial support does not seem exhibiting visible effects. In the Czech republic KETs became an organic component of the National Research and Innovation Strategy for the intelligent specialisation (National RIS3 strategy) and a number of targeted public financing programmes support KETs related projects. The situation in the Czech Republic has been evolving in a positive way between 2008 and 2016. Both the number of publications and patent applications related to KETs has been increasing and the growth dynamics approaches the Asian countries. The number of publications per research worker in the Czech Republic is on par with the EU. Due to a stronger growth in recent years of the number of patent applications in comparison to EU the Czech republic reached the EU average per researcher and the fraction of the KETs related applications surpasses the EU average and even some developed countries.

Besides agricultural primary production, the food industry and all other branches of the economy /services/ it is the information and communication technology used in retail that is one of the factors that markedly influence food retail. Therefore it is necessary to analyse the effect of electronic transactions that are used by food retail to attract and acquire other target groups of the consumers purchasing food. Though globally the retail companies (for ex. in Great Britain) invest in this technology heavily in order to increase their competitiveness on the market the food e-business in the Czech Republic has been more or less stagnating, though the recent years have been showing slight increase of interest in this form of shopping. This article identifies both the positive and the negative reasons of this situation. The technological level of computer network and its high accessibility proven by the fact that the vast majority of consumers can use internet for purchasing any kind of goods incl. food can be considered the positive reason. On the other hand the poor offer of food presented on the internet by retailers who – for fear of low demand for other kinds of food – focus mainly on beverages and dry food can be considered one of the negatives. The weakest point here is the timely delivery of goods in unchanged quality. Despite these facts the purchasing of food via internet can still serve well for busy or handicapped customers with limited mobility.

The development of digital technology and the Internet by the end of the 20th century has brought several questions to the field of photojournalism and impacted the entire process of photojournalistic material production. Taking the example of the Czech Republic, we examine how photojournalists and photo editors perceive the changes brought on by the adoption of digital technology and how news routines, photojournalistic practices, image content, and professional identity have been reshaped. We conducted in-depth interviews and surveys with 48 photojournalists and photo editors from different Czech news media and magazines. The findings show how Czech photojournalists evaluate the state of their profession after digitalization. We also discuss a new way of image taking, so-called ‘cinematic shooting’, the ‘myth of acceleration’, and new responsibilities laid upon visual news professionals.

Objectives: In the Czech Republic, the health technology assessment (HTA) approaches have been implemented in evaluation of medicinal products since 2008.The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the implementation of HTA and different levels thereof in the evaluation process conducted by the State Institute for Drug Control (SUKL) and to describe the impact of HTA on the entrance of new medicinal entities into out-patient healthcare system including highly innovative and orphan drugs. Methods: Materials supporting this overview were collected using the records in the database of administrative proceedings of SUKL, in-house standard operating procedures, and the legislation in force. Based on these sources as well as the hands-on knowledge of the current practice, a brief description of the general rules of administrative proceedings involving HTA of varying complexity was elaborated. Characteristic features of the individual types of proceedings, basic differences in the complexity of HTA employed, and its most important challenges were summarized. Results: In Czech Republic, HTA in the formal administrative proceedings ensures a transparent process of introduction of new medicinal products into clinical practice and leaves space for restriction of reimbursement conditions to minimize budget impact. Conclusions: As a robust as well as pragmatic HTA methodology has been implemented by SUKL, relevant stakeholders (marketing authorization holders, Health Care Funds, clinical expert groups) are now able to influence reimbursement of new technologies.

The first constructed wetland (CW) for wastewater treatment was built in the Czech Republic in 1989. This recent survey shows that at the end of 1999 101 systems are in operation and several more are under construction. 95 CWs are designed with sub-surface horizontal flow, 6 systems are hybrid with a combination of vertical and horizontal flow beds. Most systems (56) were designed for the treatment of municipal and domestic sewage while 38 CWs were designed for the treatment of wastewater from combined sewer systems. The most commonly used size of vegetated beds is 1,001-2,500 m2 (31 systems) followed by the area between 51-250 m2 (19%). The area of vegetated bed of the largest system is 4,493 m2. Size distribution is quite evenly spread from very small systems (PE = 3 or 4) up to 1,000 PE. However, most systems (44) were sized to treat wastewater from sources between 101 and 500 PE. The most commonly used macrophyte is Common reed (Phragmites australis) which is used in 34 systems as a monotypic stand and in 44 systems in combination with other macrophytes, most frequently with Reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea) (31 systems) and cattails (Typha spp.) (8 systems).

External environment factors influencing Czech wine production industry went have been significantly changing in the past 20 years. Objective of this paper is to identify and describe selected external environment factors influencing this industry.Changes in the Czech Republic in 1989 significantly influenced all industries in the Czech economy, including wine production. The most significant include the transition from planned socialistic economy to the market economy, establishment of the Czech Republic (January 1, 1993), entrance European Union (May 1, 2004). For the wine production industry it brought for example opening the domestic market to competition, simplifying international trade with EU-member countries, stabilization of the area of vineyards including the ban on their extension, establishment of the Wine Fund, establishment of non-governmental organisations supporting activities of wine producers (e.g. Union of wine producers of the Czech Republic, National Wine centre, Moravín, Partnership foundation), etc. Significant changes can be found also in the field of wine-marketing and promotion of wines. Wines from the Czech Republic are sold in foreign markets and achieve awards within international trade fairs and wine exhibitions, Czech Republic organises wine trade fairs, e.g. Vinex or Wine and distilled products, Wine fund have registered the trademark „Svatomartinské víno“ (St. Martin Wine), etc. Other significant factors identified within macro-environment analysis include continuous changes in wine production technology. Here we can expect that in the future, there will grow the use of PET bottles, which could replace the classical glass bottles, just as it happened in the soft-drinks production industry. Changes happened also in the field of legislature, and were connected with updating the law on winegrowing and wine production, change of the VAT to 19 %, cancellation of the consumption tax on wine or new titles of subsidies. Also the buyer behaviour goes through a gradual development and it is influenced by many factors. Therefore the paper includes statistical evaluation of dependence between the average monthly wages and wine consumption. Calculated values show a semi-strong positive linear dependence of these two factors.

AbstractThe objective of the DOPAS international project is to design a sealing-plug system for deep geological repository (DGR) use, to provide detailed plans for the design of such plugs, to test the characteristics of the materials to be used and the construction technology and to install four experimental in situ plugs. The Czech experimental pressure and sealing-plug (EPSP) experiment is being conducted in a rock environment consisting of granitoids at the Josef Regional Underground Research Centre. The concept of the experiment is based primarily on the use of materials and technology available in the Czech Republic and the principal aim is to demonstrate the technical viability and functioning of a pressure-resistant plug located in a future DGR. The completion of the EPSP experiment will contribute towards both the demonstration of how sealing-plug systems behave under real underground conditions and the long-term safety of a future DGR in the Czech Republic.

The study of organizational transformation has emerged from the foundations established by contingency theory and research. While institutional approaches to organizational analysis have preferred to focus on the tendency towards organizational continuity and inertia, recent developments have begun to con sider institutional pressures leading to change, and to provide clues about how contingency and institutional theories might complement each other in improv ing our understanding of organizational change. The evidence presented in this paper, drawn from a study of organizational transformation in the Czech Republic, allows exploration of the relationship between transforming state enterprises and the wider processes of social, economic and institutional change. The values, motives and actions of the key enterprise managers are shown to be essential factors in explaining both the process of transformation in state enterprises, and the role of institutional factors in that process.

Purpose: The goal of this paper is to model customer satisfaction of smartphone select manufacturers in the Czech Republic (CR). Furthermore, the paper aims to model the factors which affect customer satisfaction of the smartphone. Methodology/Approach: A questionnaire was sent to 1,063 respondents in CR to collect data. Using structural equation modelling, relationships between factors of customer satisfaction within three models of customer satisfaction of select smartphone manufacturers were modelled. Findings: Effects of all investigated factors of customer satisfaction were verified, as well as all items which constituted the factors. Additionally, the functioning of the factor of total satisfaction with dimensions of general satisfaction and price tolerance was verified. Research Limitation/Implication: The research is limited by its focus exclusively CR, the number of manufacturers included in the research is rather low and small number of factors and items included in those factors. Originality/Value of paper: The models differed from each other in terms of the strength and direction of the relationships between the factors, which has implications for these recommendations. In general, each manufacturer has its own strengths and weaknesses (factors) that affect customer satisfaction with its product. Individual manufacturers can increase customer satisfaction by strengthening the positive factors or by learning from their competitors and eliminating or improving the factors that currently affect customer satisfaction negatively.

The determination of minimum residual flow (MRF) follows diverse methodology in Europe due to differing hydrological conditions, ecosystem requirements, water abstraction requirements, and legislation. Methodologies in individual countries are difficult to compare qualitatively. However, individual approaches can serve as examples for countries undergoing the process of developing new methodologies, either for legislative purposes or to improve environmental standards on watercourses. This is exactly the situation in the Czech Republic which, has been working on the Regulation of the Government of the Czech Republic for ten years, since the amendment to the Water Act in 2010, defines the methods and criteria for determining the MRF on watercourses. T.G. Masaryk Water Research Institute, p.r.i., was commissioned to develop a new methodology to serve as the basis for the wording of aforementioned regulation. The new methodological approach took into account modern trends concerning the preservation of ecological standards, and used standard hydrological characteristics for its calculations. The newly proposed approach is undergoing a complicated approval process as the authors seek to increase the MRF compared to the current approach. The new approach assumes an MRF setting between Q97 and Q90. It defines four areas within the Czech Republic, by their hydrological and hydrogeological conditions, where the MRF is determined in different ways. This article describes the development of a new methodological approach, including the use the available Czech Hydrometeorological Institute data sets, the proposed regional division for MRF calculations, the determination the MRF below reservoirs, and the current state of the issue.

In the Czech Republic numerous constructed wetlands were designed and built for point and non-point pollution abatement in recent years. The contribution brings a concise survey of the progress made in the research and practical application of these systems. Appx. 39 constructed wetlands were in operation or under construction in 1995. Their treatment effect and function have been monitored and evaluated. The greatest constraint is a lack of practical experience. To prevent unnecessary mistakes it is desirable to use the experience from countries with a longer tradition in construction and operation of such systems. Nevertheless, the research results, which have been obtained in the Czech Republic could be also useful for designers in other countries.

The use of renewable resources has been on the rise in recent years. The use of renewable resources is also related to state support, either in the form of a fixed price for the purchase of energy or in the form of direct investment aid. The present article analyzed the use of RES in the Czech Republic and the number of installations depending on state support, which represents a significant factor affecting the end user. The article presented the development of the legislative framework that formed the basis of RES support during the years since independence and the country’s entry into the EU. The breaking points of support, when support was increased, and the impact of this support on the number of new installations were indicated. The development of energy production from RES was analyzed on the basis of historical data. A numerical model using a neural network was developed to illustrate the impact of government measures. The time interval for training the network was chosen on the basis of legislative changes, while the possible course was monitored if the change did not occur, or if the support remained the same. The results of the numerical simulation point to the fact that without adequate legislation and state support, there would probably not be an expansion of the use of RES. On the other hand, if the initial high support were to remain, there would probably be a significant distortion of the energy market. Finally, a prediction for the near future was presented, while a stabilization of the situation was assumed.

During three years (2010 – 12) The Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre in cooperation with The Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic and The Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic are providing mapping of the entire area of the Czech Republic by Airborne laser scanning (ALS) technology. The goal of this project is to derive a highly accurate Digital Terrain Model (DTM) for purposes of administration like detection of flooded areas, orthorectification of areal images etc. Such data set also seems to be an interesting da ta source for mapping of human activities in countryside. Human settlements, agriculture or mining activities left significant scars on natural landscape. These significant man-made structures are a part of so called cultural landscape. Man-made structures include ancient settlements, remains of medieval mining activities or remains of settlements abandoned during 20th century. This article generally presents how to derive information about the man-made structures from raw LiDAR. Examples of significant findings of man-made imprints in countryside are also presented. Goal of this article is not to describe a certain archeological site but to inform about strengths of ALS data to map human activities in countryside, mainly in forested areas.

In the last few years, interest in the collection of data using remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) has sharply risen. RPAS technology has a very wide area of use; one of its main advantages is its accuracy, timeliness of data, frequency of collecting data and low operating costs. RPAS can be used for the mapping of small, dangerous and inaccessible areas in contrast with ordinary aerial photogrammetry. In the cadastre of real estates of the Czech Republic, it is possible to map out areas by using aerial photogrammetry, so it has been done in the past. However, this is a relatively expensive and complex technology, and therefore we are looking for new alternatives. An alternative would be to use RPAS technology for data acquisition. The testing of the possibility of using RPAS for the cadastre of real estates of the Czech Republic is the subject of this paper. When evaluating results we compared point coordinates measured by geodetic method, GNSS technology and RPAS technology.
