Information literacy is an important skill student must gain, and college teachers are major contributor to this independent lifelong learning and enhance students' library engagement. This study attempted to establish that college teachers’ involvement in the promotion of information influenced students' library engagement. This assumption was verified in one of the higher educational institutions (HEIs) in the Southern part of Bukidnon, Philippines. A concurrent nested mixed method research design using one modified survey questionnaire on the constructs was the main primary source of the quantitative and qualitative data. Three hundred twenty-eight (328) students from one of the HEIs participated and assessed their respective college teachers' involvement in promoting information literacy. Participants were college students scheduled to get their modules from their teachers during the school year 2021-2022. Descriptive statistics, and regression analysis used and complemented with qualitative data from students. The study revealed that teachers' involvement is a significantly influences student engagement in the library. This study hopes to contribute to the scanty research in the Philippines that focused on the involvement of college teachers in promoting

Through the integrated application of Library information system and campus culture of Guangxi colleges as well as the research of Guangxi colleges serving developments of China-ASEAN, and Guangxi Beibu Gulf economic region, this paper provides solution of integrated construction of college campus culture and library information system on informatization condition. In the system of college campus culture construction based on perspective of Gungxi colleges, college library information resource is used as medium to integrate into cultural connotation serving regional economy on the basis of knowledge architecture, with applications of Internet, computer telecom integration technology as well as IVR and TTS technology, communication tools commonly used by college students and teachers are adopted as informatization approaches, concept identification system, activity identification system, visual identification system, subject and specialty service system, environment and culture planning system and other unified information general culture systems are established, and e-mail, voice message, short message, WAP, real time communication, web, VoIP and other campus culture interactive measures are realized. The reconfigurable analysis of aggregate diagnosis flow proves the integrated construction of campus culture and library unified information is feasible.

Reading only textbooks or coursebooks is not enough for English language teachers. In addition to textbooks, they should read several books for their academic advancement. Keeping this in mind, this descriptive survey design under quantitative research tried to find out the book reading habits of the college level English Language (EL) teachers. The participants of the study consisted of 20 English language teachers who have been teaching English in different Tribhuvan University (TU) affiliated colleges located in Banke district. The participants were selected employing simple random sampling technique. The data was collected using a questionnaire which included altogether fifteen questions. The first ten questions were closed ended and the last five questions were open ended. The collected data was analyzed based on the descriptive statistics technique of data analysis. The results of the study showed that the average number of books the college teachers read in a year is approximately four. Similarly, the majority of college teachers have no habits of reading even a single book in a month. Another finding of this study is that college teachers prefer extensive reading over intensive one. Moreover, the college teachers believed that the library is the main source for college teachers to read.

The study aims to determine the impact of awareness, knowledge, and attitude toward plagiarism on the plagiarism activity of college teachers in Maharashtra State, India. Two hundred seventy-two college teachers within Maharashtra State, India, participated in the survey. The study used purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The college teachers have a reasonable awareness and moderate knowledge of plagiarism. The college teachers bore a positive attitude toward plagiarism. The results of multiple regression analysis showed a significant influence of all three independent variables on the plagiarism activities of college teachers. Attitude towards plagiarism was forecasted as the highest predictor of plagiarism activities of college teachers, followed by knowledge of plagiarism.

In spring 2001 students at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at The University of Texas at Austin created a Virtual Library of education resources for pre-service teachers at Northwest Indian College (NWIC) in Lummi, Washington, one of thirty-two tribal colleges in the United States. The Virtual Library includes pathfinders on topics such as emergent literacy and the impact of technology on indigenous peoples. In addition, the Virtual Library includes links to related sources in Information Literacy andlibrary instruction as well as handouts providing instruction on using applications such as PowerPoint Adobe Photoshop, and Flash.

This study analyzed the information seeking behaviour of the teachers and students at College of Engineering, King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In this study, data collected from 150 teachers and students by administering questionnaires on their information seeking and requirements of the College of Engineering, indicates that guidance in the use of library resources and services is necessary to help teachers and students to meet their information requirements. Found that journals, textbooks and electronic information sources are the most popular sources of information for the students’ course work. Recommends that latest edition of textbooks and reference materials should add to the library collections. Suggests that the CD-ROM databases of journal archives and reference books should be added and users should be guided to use the resources of the library.

This paper focuses on the awareness, use, satisfaction and problems regarding the available library resources at Dronacharya College of Engineering. In this study, the perspectives of teachers and students were compared side by side. To collect data from 400 targeted samples (350 students and 50 teachers) with the help of a structured questionnaire designed to cover all possible aspects required to fulfil the study objectives using the descriptive survey method. Based on the responses of 236 valid respondents (59.00%), it can be inferred that although the library offers a sizable collection of print and electronic resources, it is somewhat short on valued and updated materials. Besides, students put the internet facility into serious question. Overall, the teachers are neutrally satisfied with the collection and the students are satisfied enough. Updated collection, demand driven acquisition, expanded internet access, and awareness campaigns are just a few suggested actions that could improve user satisfaction and the effective use of library resources. In this phenomena, education system is one of the major key indicator to evaluate the country’s development and the education system does not remain static/constant. It is a dynamic process in which many rapid changes emerge from time to time according to the requirement of the country’s progress. Education is the bed rock for a healthy and progressive society, the transmission of knowledge, skills and application of these aspects could be learnt through education system. The variables used in this study are Self appraisal, Salary, awards and rewards, performance appraisal, Department Climate, Infrastructure In Terms Of Library, Psychological Advantage, Professional Development And Higher Studies, Locational disadvantage, Infrastructure.This study has designed to evaluate professional commitment of first grade college teachers, the study covers total 800 respondents (permanent Commerce teachers) from all six regions, 400 respondents (permanent Commerce teachers) from Rural colleges and 400 permanent Commerce teachers from city colleges in Karnataka. Out of the 800 respondents 623 respondents have responded, thus making the response rate as 77.86 per cent. Simple linear regression model is used to analyse the data (SPSS 19.0).

Life and career skills are two of many required skills in the 21st century learning. Etiquette lesson becomes essential in preparing college students to cope with the working world. This study aims at comparing the etiquette lesson employed in the English Program of the Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Indonesia and in the Business English Program of the Foreign Language School of Chengdu Textile College (CDTC) China. The data were collected through doing interviews with etiquette teachers, doing observation in both colleges, and conducting library research. Afterwards, the data were categorized into three areas; course syllabus, topics and activities, and assessment; they were then analyzed using Business Etiquette Significant Learning Taxonomy and 21st Century Learning Framework. This study reveals that all aspects of Business Etiquette Significant Learning are employed within the lesson in both colleges.

Institutional repositories have been introduced as an innovative and alternative technology for scholarly communication and have received considerable attention from scholars across disciplines and around the globe. While some universities in Thailand have developed and implemented institutional repositories for nearly a decade, knowledge of the acceptance and use of institutional repositories on the individual level in the country remains limited. As an insufficient knowledge of technology acceptance and adoption at the individual level is considered partially responsible for the underutilization of innovation or of information system implementation, this study seeks to uncover knowledge regarding the level of institutional repository acceptance and use. This study applied the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model and the model of faculty members' self-archiving behavior to investigate factors affecting faculty acceptance and use of university-based institutional repositories. The study employed a mixed methods approach involving a survey followed by semi-structured, one-to-one interview. This study confirms that the success of university-based institutional repositories depends not on a single factor but on multiple factors. The results of the study show that performance expectancy, social influence, and resistance to change were direct determinants of faculty members' intention to use institutional repositories. Additionally, behavioral intention and altruism were found to be the main determinants of actual usage behavior. The findings of this study imply that education in and promotion of open access and institutional repositories are essential and can play an important role in the adoption of institutional repositories. Finally, this study suggests that sustained dialogue and collaborative efforts among faculty members (as contributors and users), libraries/librarians (as institutional repository developers and managers), and other stakeholders within communities are essential for the adoption and success of university-based institutional repositories.

Reading culture and library use in Afghan education area can be a very important issue to be studied particularly, in teacher training colleges because these institutions play a very important role in spreading and developing reading culture and library use among students. Moreover, students of TTCs as teacher students and future teachers get reading habit in order to convey it to their school students and can be very affective to establishment of this culture among them. This study is aimed to find out the view point of teacher educators and teacher students on library use and reading culture among students. The basic and primary factors involved in establishment of reading culture and habit of library use are parental involvement in children’s pre-education ages. They put a critical foundation for this culture in students’ educational life while this study also shows the important role of parental involvement in development of reading habit among students. Teachers also play an important role in establishment of reading habit among students, after students’ primary education by parents then in school education teachers support reading development with the cooperation of parents. In this study, a large number of teacher students have replied that they have got the support of their parents when they were children. In findings of this study many of students responded that they go to library by their own interest and they mostly go there for supporting their background knowledge however they strongly agreed that their family background affected on their reading habit. Furthermore, teacher educators have mentioned that they persuade students using methods of teaching to improve reading habit among them.

The thesis explores the benefit and use of audiovisual materials by teachers and lecturers in Kuwait. The educational system in Kuwait has relied upon traditional teaching styles which are mainly based on the use of printed texts, with very little independent or resource based learning. These approaches may not meet the needs of all learners, and the provision of multi media resources in many other countries inspired the author to explore current and potential AV use in Kuwait. School teachers were interviewed about their use of audiovisual materials, their views on the advantages for teaching, and the problems experienced in identifying and obtaining suitable materials. They provided examples to show how a specific lesson had been enriched by audiovisual materials. Lecturers were interviewed about their use of audiovisual media when teaching student teachers. The student teachers were asked about their response to the use of audiovisual materials by their lecturers, and about their experience of attending courses on AV techniques. The author discusses the general infrastructure for AV media provision in Kuwait and the role of the school library media centre in meeting teachers' needs for such materials. The study concludes that the use of audiovisual materials in teaching benefits both teachers and learners by making concepts easily understandable, overcoming physical difficulties, and stimulating enjoyment, confidence, concentration and teacher/learner communication. There are problems in the procurement and use of audiovisual materials and educational technology supervisors in many of the surveyed schools were considered by teachers to be a source of support if adequately trained and wisely used.

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the patterns of library usage of student teachers and lecturers, the factors influencing their usage behaviour and the methods used by lecturers to promote use. A case study was conducted at Tonota College of Education in Botswana. Questioning data collection methods were used. A total of 172 student teachers and 84 lecturers were selected by means of stratified random sampling. The findings revealed that both student teachers and lecturers made frequent use of the library. Borrowing for curriculum-related use constituted more than half of the reasons why student teachers and lecturers used the library. Most of the lecturers indicated that they adopted topic assignments as a method of motivating students to make use of the library. This was confirmed by the majority of student teachers. Most student teachers perceived the College Library as contributing to their educational success.

This study is a brief history of college libraries in the former Transkei, from 1882 (the period of the missionaries) to 1994 (the year when Transkei was reincorporated into the Republic of South Africa). The history of college libraries in the Transkei has never been fully documented, despite the fact that some of the colleges and their libraries have been in existence for some time. Besides, there were some colleges which were without libraries. Even those that existed had not been fully developed, and the reasons for this have not been articulated. The author, therefore, considered it relevant to research the development of college libraries in this region. Fourteen college libraries were examined chronologically, starting from the colleges established during the missionary period (1882-1953), to the colleges established during the period of independence (1977 -1994) . Other periods covered were those of Bantu Education (1953-1962) and self-government (1963-1976). In order to provide a framework for the study, the historical development of each of the college libraries was examined in terms of the following criteria: adequacy of library accommodation; staffing; budget; the size and type of collection; users and types of services offered. The researcher gathered data by consulting and interviewing relevant people. Both primary and secondary sources were consulted. Conclusions drawn in this study clearly show that college libraries in the former Transkei were far from being centres of teaching, learning and research. Library staff were hampered in their efforts to improve library services, not only by a lack of funds and resources but also by the lack of a clear government policy regarding college libraries and by a lack of moral support.

In the summer of 2021, librarians, professional tutors, and instructors at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester (UNHM) offered a free, online professional development (PD) opportunity for high school English Language Arts (ELA) educators, English learner (EL) teachers, and school library media specialists across the state. The UNHM team aimed to encourage secondary and higher-education teachers to collaborate on teaching strategies for preparing first-generation and EL students to successfully transition to college. Specific workshop topics included strategies related to college-level reading expectations, college composition curricula and practices, writing in the disciplines, information literacy and academic research, and supporting English learners in the classroom. This chapter describes how members of the UNHM team partnered to create the online modules, engage with participants, and assess the workshop outcomes. The chapter concludes by identifying potential best practices for engaging in collaborative, cross-institutional PD based on the authors' experiences.

This chapter seeks to provide an overview of how academic librarians at the University of South Dakota's (USD) University Libraries are making steps to impact pre-college information literacy instruction and college preparation through collaborative outreach. There is much to be gained from establishing an ongoing dialog and formal relationships between academic librarians, campus programs, high school teachers, and school librarians. Using the existing literature and examples of partnership experiences, this chapter identifies best practices, which can improve student information literacy skills upon arrival at college, ensure students' academic success, increase student retention rates and increase exposure of the institution.

Abstract In spite of teachers’ misgivings and students’ complaints, the research paper remains one of the most common assignments in undergraduate college writing programs across the country (Ford & Perry, 1982). In addition, much of the writing that students are expected to produce in courses across the curriculum requires them to locate and use research material (Bridgeman & Carlson, 1985). Most writing teachers would agree that successful writers must be able to gather, interpret, integrate, and acknowledge material from a variety of sources, but many teachers are disappointed in their students’ responses to research paper assignments and disillusioned about their abilities to teach students these critical processes. Surprisingly, in spite of the important role that research plays in academic writing, researchers have only begun to examine how students approach the process of researching a topic for writing (Stotsky, 1990).

This chapter describes the community engagement plan carried out by the Gottesman Libraries at Teachers College, Columbia University to develop a design for “the learning theater,” a flexible space aimed at the educators and students of the future. In order to design a learning space with the potential to inspire innovative use and cutting edge research, library staff conducted outreach and events to involve faculty, students, staff, and other stakeholders in generating use cases and ideas. These activities included immersive full day design events, shorter format design events, lectures, targeted collection development, and multimedia creation.

Room reservation systems are important in an increasingly collaborative library environment. This chapter explores two case studies of libraries experimenting with room-bound, electronic reservation kiosks. Teachers College, Columbia University built a native app to run on room-coded iPads, while Stony Brook University developed custom code to run Steelcase's RoomWizard system in a university environment. This chapter will discuss the particularities and challenges of both systems while addressing the solutions from other libraries discussed in the literature. Room reservation systems are a challenge for libraries of all types and many diverse solutions, from using vendor solutions to creating tools from scratch, have emerged in recent years. This chapter will explore two stories on that spectrum with attention to the potential applications and solutions emerging in this area.

This chapter provides historical and cultural context for London libraries, the education provided for girls and women at the King’s College Department for Ladies, and Greek studies as it traces Virginia Stephen’s experiences in the London Library and British Museum Reading Room, her teachers and her courses in history, Greek, Latin, and German as a non-matriculated student at the college (Appendix 1 outlines her course schedule), and her Greek lessons with Janet Case, a tutor. Venturing beyond home widened and deepened Virginia Stephen’s curriculum; increased the pedagogies she was encountering; taught her lessons about inclusion and exclusion, the nature of schooling for women, and the mystery of languages; and put her in virtual or actual touch with communities of readers and writers, students, and political activists.

Consider the case of George Peabody College for Teachers and Vanderbilt University. The two private schools sat side by side in Nashville, Tennessee. Peabody trained generations of teachers across the United States. Vanderbilt was and remains a research university. For decades, the two schools maintained a partnership or alliance, and it functioned on many levels. Students at one school easily enrolled for classes at the other and transferred credits without trouble. The two schools shared library resources between themselves and a third, religious-oriented school. Athletes on Vanderbilt sports teams earned Peabody degrees. At times, Vanderbilt rented dormitory space from Peabody to house excess students. Separated only by a city street, the schools collaborated but remained distinct. Then in the late 1970s, they announced a merger. Peabody would become part of Vanderbilt. By the early 1980s, the merger was complete. The change was wrenching for Peabody. Many faculty left or were laid off. Tuition increased to match that of Vanderbilt. Today Peabody survives only as the name of the College of Education within Vanderbilt (Dorn, 1996).

Dr. Marie Maynard Daly was the first African American woman chemist to receive a PhD in chemistry. In addition, she was part of a research team that was working on the precursors to DNA . Marie was born Marie Maynard Daly on April 16, 1921, to Ivan C. Daly and Helen Page, the first of three children. Her father, who had emigrated from the West Indies, received a scholarship from Cornell University to study chemistry; however, he had to drop out because he could not pay his room and board, and he became a postal worker. Daly’s interest in science came from her father’s encouragement and the desire to live his dream.” He later encouraged his daughter to pursue his dream, even though she was a woman and had brothers who were twins. In the 1920s, as a result of the women’s suffrage movement, some women began to aspire to achievement in areas outside the domestic sphere. Marie’s mother encouraged reading and spent many hours reading to her and her brothers. Marie’s maternal grandfather had an extensive library, including books about scientists, such as The Microbe Hunters by Paul De Kruff; she read that book and many others like it. Growing up in Queens, one of the boroughs of New York City, she attended the local public school, where she excelled. She was able to attend Hunter College High School, an all girls’ school affiliated with Hunter College for women. Since this was a laboratory school for Hunter College, the faculty encouraged the girls to excel in their studies. Since Marie had an aptitude for science, the teachers there encouraged her to study college-level chemistry while still in high school. One of the many advantages of living in New York City during that time was that students who had good grades could enter one of the tuition-free colleges run by the City of New York. As a result, Daly enrolled in Queens College, then one of the newest institutions in the City College system, in Flushing, New York.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in K-12 schools is critical to inspire young students and prepare them for future college coursework and careers in science and engineering. An effective mechanism for creating and sustaining successful STEM education is to train well-qualified K-12 teachers with a positive attitude and deep knowledge skills in STEM fields. Supported by the National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Teachers program (NSF RET), the RET Site at Michigan State University (MSU) aims to build a multidisciplinary engineering research program for middle and high school teachers and their students, within a coherent theme of “Smart Sensors and Sensing Systems”. This paper presents an introduction to the MSU’s Site program and highlights the learning outcomes and achievements of the RET participants. The MSU Site has four main components including authentic research experience for teachers during an intensive summer program; curriculum development by integrating engineering design units into teachers’ courses; professional skill development through seminars, facility tours, and field trips; and finally classroom implementation of the developed curricula. Throughout the 6-week summer program, teacher participants were given the opportunity to work closely with graduate students and engineering professors on current research projects in university laboratories. The teachers’ research activities culminated with a final poster report and oral presentation during a symposium at the end of the summer program. Follow-up classroom visits helped to build a strong connection between local middle/high schools and MSU to smooth students’ transitions to college. Since 2016, the Site has graduated 21 middle and high school teachers from the greater Lansing-Detroit area that serve large populations of minority and female students. These RET teachers have produced over 24 sets of curriculum plans and classroom activities, 3 sets of which have been published by an online digital library, TeachEngineering.org (TE), and 8 sets of which have been accepted by TE. Finally, from the findings of the RET Site, the paper discusses best practices and recommendations for incorporating teachers into a university laboratory setting.
