In order to improve the efficiency of the switching power supply in whole load range, the controller with PWM, PFM and BURST operating modes is designed in this paper, which changes the operation mode automatically according to the load. The operating principle and the advantages and disadvantages of the three operating modes are analyzed and compared. PWM mode is used in heavy load; PFM mode is used in light load to reduce switching losses by reducing the switching frequency and BURST mode is used at the standby time to further reduce switching losses. The main control module is designed and simulation results verify the feasibility of the designed circuit.

This paper designs a low-power flyback switching power supply using current-mode PWM control chip UC3843. The design of control circuit and high-frequency transformer’s parameters of single-ended flyback converter is given. Simulation model of switching power supply is established by saber software. Simulation result shows that the power supply both have a good line regulation and load regulation with high efficiency, and verifies the correctness and feasibility of the design scheme.

In order to keep the stability of the control circuit of electric vehicle, a flyback switching power supply was designed in this paper. The flyback switching power supply adopting current control mode PWM chip UC3842, and the output power of flyback switching power supply is 25W. In the design process of flyback switching power supply, the component parameters of control loop are worked out thoroughly. The flyback transformer was designed by considering the maximum pressure value of power switch. From the experimental results, the flyback switching power supply can work stably in the full load condition. The flyback switching power supply has excellent stability and dynamic characteristics.

Abstract Switching power supply is easy to produce electromagnetic interference in the working process. Switching power supply is both an interference source and a sensitive device. Therefore, the boost circuit of switching power supply is modelled and simulated. It is concluded that the surge current and peak voltage generated by the boost circuit are the main causes of electromagnetic interference. According to the reasons, the electromagnetic interference suppression measures are proposed. It mainly includes three measures, namely adding capacitors at both ends of the switching tube, adding a filter circuit at the low voltage input end of the switching power supply, adding an optical coupler equipment and adding a common-differential-mode synthetic choke coil filter. These measures all effectively reduce the influence of electromagnetic interference of the switching power supply, and they are beneficial to improve the reliability of the switching power supply.

In this paper, a new discrete-time sliding mode predictive control (DSMPC) strategy with a PID sliding function is proposed for synchronous DC-DC Buck converter. The model predictive control, along with digital sliding mode control (DSMC) is able to further reducing the chattering phenomenon, steady-state error, overshoot, and undershoot of the converter output voltage. The proposed control method implementation only requires output error voltage evaluation. The effectiveness of the proposed DSMPC is proved through simulation results executed by the MATLAB/SIMULINK software. These results demonstrate its performance is superior to DSMC. The selected synchronous Buck converter in this paper has 380 V input voltage and 48 V output voltage that can be applied in sections of DC distribution systems.

With the development of power electronics,the technology of Switching Mode Power Supply(SMPS) is gradually perfected. However,there is no end to the demand for a high power and high performance power supply. Nowadays, Power Factor Correction (PFC) technique is widely researched. This paper mainly analyzes the fundamental configuration of the switching power supply. And we study the basic structure and the operating principles of ZVT-boost soft-switching PFC circuit and the implementing principle of soft switch. For the power requirements, the two-stage PFC circuit is used. The forward stage is a single-phase Boost Power Factor Correction circuit and the backward stage main circuit is a full-bridge converter with the phase-shifting control soft-switching technique. Finally the simulating analysis is performed to the designed system.

The hybrid microgrid with distributed power supply which includes wind turbine (WT), photovoltaic (PV) inverter and power converter system (PCS), not only could be connected to the power distribution network, but also can operate independently. It is realized switch from grid-connected mode to off-grid mode through the microgrid controller. Whether the microgrid can achieve smooth switching from grid-connected to off-grid has great influence on the safety and stability of the power grid. In order to accurately evaluate the influence of the microgrid switch to the distribution network, it is needed to research on the distributed source modeling technology, and establish an accurate microgrid model. In this paper, using a 400V voltage grade microgrid system with PV, WT and PCS as an example, model the internal equipment and the microgrid control system, and establish a microgrid model for simulation. At the meantime, it carries out the microgrid switch testing, and compare with the measured waveform to verify the accuracy of the model. It is confirmed the accuracy of the microgrid model by the contrast result.

This paper discusses the automatic transfer switch (ATS) in solar power plants. ATS is used to transfer the main electrical power to a backup power source (battery). PLN power cannot supply electricity continuously due to non-standard ATS installations, blackouts, disturbances to the generating system, and distribution system. Two ATS systems are proposed to control the switching process of PLN and PLTS automatically using inverter standby mode (ISM) and inverter off mode (IOM). The results of the application of ISM to PLN and PLTS can supply power needs based on switching techniques to avoid equipment damage. While IOM can save battery for inverter power supply.

User-side battery energy storage systems (UESSs) are a rapidly developing form of energy storage system; however, very little attention is being paid to their application in the power quality enhancement of premium power parks, and their coordination with existing voltage sag mitigation devices. The potential of UESSs has not been fully exploited. Given the above, this paper proposes a hierarchical power supply strategy for premium power parks (PPPs) based on the coordination of UESSs and dynamic voltage restorers (DVR). Firstly, the topology and control strategy of the UESS for voltage sag mitigation are devised. Further, we construct a prototype device, and experimental tests are conducted to verify its effectiveness in voltage sag mitigation. To avoid the negative effects caused by the UESS control mode switching between the voltage sag mitigation mode and the peak-shaving and valley-filling modes—namely, the long control mode switching time and low state of charge (SOC)—a hierarchical power supply strategy is proposed. The basic idea is to supply three levels of power quality service for loads with different sensitivities in PPPs by coordinating UESS with DVR. Several cases are explored to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed strategy.

Floating nuclear power plants contain sensitive loads of nuclear reactors. After equipment faults, fast and efficient power supply recovery should be realized. To realize the unified analysis of system topology and power flow distribution, a power supply recovery strategy based on Petri nets is proposed. Considering that systems of different voltage levels cannot be connected instantaneously, a two-stage power supply recovery mode is adopted. Emergency power supply is put in first, and then the whole network is reconstructed. In the network reconstruction process, load transfer is realized through switching the transformation to redistribute the load of each switchboard and adjust the power output of each power source. Corresponding to the Petri net model, the above process is similar to the dynamic transmission process of a token in each library by firing the transition. Therefore, the topological model of system is constructed based on the Petri net, and a power flow analysis is proposed through its dynamic updating mechanism. The objective function of the network reconstruction is established by integrating load recovery amount, switch operation cost and generator operation efficiency, and the optimal switching state combination scheme that satisfies the system constraints is obtained by the multi-population genetic algorithm (MPGA). Simulation results show that the proposed method can provide complete power supply recovery.

The correction power supplies are working in the Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) of NSRRC. They are required to output current at high quality and with high performance and that has long-term stability, with output current ripple required to be less than 10ppm. The TPS comprises more than 1200 units of independent power-supplymodules working together when the beam current is at3-GeV status. The power supplies are all working in current mode. We willplan to build a new measurement laboratory for conduction Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) to measure and to test the switching DC power bus thatfeeds the correction power supplies. We can get conduction electromagnetic interferencenoise from the measurement equipmentto measure the switching DC power bus is an AC-to-DC voltage bus source.With the LISN obtainingthe conduction noise, it is a high-frequency voltage noise generated by the switching mode of the power-supply conduction noise. The current signal passes an AC source-impedance stabilized network LISN, and a spectrum analyzer obtains the conduction noise. We use a noise separator to separate the common EMI noise and the difference-mode EMI noise for EMI filtering design. The measurement results are illustrated in this paper.

This article discusses such an important issue as the power factor of Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) and its improvement through Power Factor Correction (PFC). The power factor shows how effectively uses the consumption of electric energy by certain loads connected to the power distribution system with Alternative Current (AC), which is very critical for the electricity-producing industry. The number of power factors is a dimensionless value that can vary from -1 to 1. Thus, in an electric power system, a load with a low power factor draws more current than a load with a high power factor for the same amount of transferring useful power, which may cause overloading of the power grid and lead to over-expenditure of electricity. Otherwise, designing power factor correction (PFC) into modern switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) has evolved over the past few years due to the introduction of many new controller integrated circuits (IC). Today, it is possible to design a variety of PFC circuits with different modes of operation, each with its own set of challenges. As the number of choices has increased, so has the complexity of making the choice and then executing the new design. In this article, the design considerations and details of operation for the most popular approaches are provided.

The research interest of this paper is to explore practical ways of incorporating advantages of digital control in Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS). The two most important issues are the design and implementation of Digital Pulse-Width Modulation (DPWM) and high-performance digital control algorithms for digital controlled SMPS. A Hybrid DPWM method based on digital clock management (DCM) and digital dithering is adopted to generate high-frequency high-resolution PWM. A digital V2 control algorithm is implemented to improve the system performance. The buck converter is studied to analyze the digital V2 control application in SMPS. The simulation and experimental results are presented.

System model of the push-pull switching power supply is established on PSpice, and research on the output performance of the push-pull switching power supply. By the parameter sweep analysis of load, the push-pull switching power supply can stabilize output in full load and light load conditions, and load regulation rate comply with the design requirements.

A steady output single-ended flyback switching power supply using L6561 current mode PWM controller designed in this paper. The designed circuit consists of single-ended flyback topology and based on the peak current PWM technology. The circuit has input voltage range from 85V AC to 265V AC and about output drive capability of 12V/2A. Based on the specific chip L6561, the novel single-ended flyback AC/DC converting circuit is adapted for mobile or office equipment, off-line battery chargers. The low-power Switched-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) are the most noticeable examples of application that this configuration can fit. The testing results show that the design of this method can reduce the switching power supply ripple, and ensure stable voltage output.

Research about power supplies has been developed for various requirement. The power supply is used to supply electronic devices and laboratory-scale equipment, one of which is electrospinner. Electrospinner is an instrument used to make nanofibers consisting of several components, namely: power supply, high voltage, syringe pump, and collector drum. Electrospinner requires a stable supply of voltage so that the system can work well and requires a lot of voltage supply to supply components from the electrospinner. Arduino-based switching mode power supply (SMPS) is designed in this research. Arduino-based SMPS makes it possible to produce a stable supply with many outputs. Arduino as a PWM generator is used to control the power supply output voltage based on duty cycle. The results of the study addressed the duty cycle affecting the output of the power supply. The output voltage generated by the power supply can be set from 0-100 V with an accuracy of 98.19%, an error of 1.81% and a precision of 0.02% which is stated by the variation of the coefficient. The power supply produced also has an extra output voltage of 15 VCT and 15 V.

In view of the unstable output voltage of the new double full bridge ZVZCS converter of beam power supply when it is disturbed by external disturbance or internal parameter change in practical application, combined with the characteristics of the beam power supply system model, this paper proposes a beam power supply control strategy based on linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC). Firstly, the working principle of the new double full bridge ZVZCS converter of beam power supply is analyzed, and considering the parasitic parameters and effective duty cycle of circuit components, the small signal equivalent model under two working modes is established. Secondly, combined with the system model and linear active disturbance rejection control theory, a double closed-loop controller is designed, which takes the second-order LADRC as the outer voltage loop and PI control as the inner current loop. Finally, the simulation and experimental results show that the designed controller has stronger robustness, anti-interference and better dynamic response speed than the traditional double closed-loop PI controller in load switching and dual-mode switching, and has a good development prospect.

Purpose The research purpose of this paper is to confirm that internal overvoltages in the push–pull power inverter can be used to improve the discharge ignition in the gliding arc discharge (GAD) plasma reactor. Design/methodology/approach Investigations are based on the acquisition of voltage changes that occur together with the development of the discharge column and the imaging the GAD with the use of a high-speed camera. Findings The power supply has the distinctive feature of not having the switching overvoltages completely extinguished, as it is in typical push–pull inverters. The overvoltages still exist but only dangerous peaks are cut off. The remaining ones, of a dumped resonance character (Figure 3), are transferred to the secondary coil of the transformer. Correctly shaped overvoltages are used for ignition improvement in the GAD reactor. Practical implications GAD plasma reactors have many applications for pollution control, disinfection and sterilization of surfaces and for plasma deposition, surface functionalization, as well as in agricultural and medical treatment. Investigations prove the push–pull inverter’s advantages in comparison with the transformer-type power supply. According to the soft-switching pulsed SAW (Submerged arc weld) weld power supply based on the double closed-loop constant current control mode, a small signal mathematic model of main circuit of soft-switching SAW inverter was established by applying the method of three-terminal switching device modeling method, and the mathematic model of double closed-loop phase-shift control system circuit was established by applying the method of state-space averaging method. Dynamic performance of the inverter was analyzed on base of the established mathematic model, and the tested wave of dynamic performance was shown by experimentation. Research and experimentation show that relation between structure of the power source circuit and dynamic performance of the controlling system can be announced by the established mathematic model, which provides development of power supply and optimized design of controlling parameter with theoretical guidance.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in switched reluctance motor when it is widely used in the field of electric vehicles for its simple structure, low cost, high reliability, wide speed range, high response speed, high operating efficiency and strong renewable braking ability. The performance and structure of the power converter will directly affect the efficiency, cost and reliability of SRM, so the reasonable design of SRM power converter is the key to increase the cost performance of the whole SRM speed control system. Based on the principle and advantages of SRM, an improved asymmetrical half-bridge structure power converter with soft-switching is proposed for SRD in the paper. The DC / DC switching mode power supply for switched reluctance motor drive system is also successfully designed based on LT1247 integrated chip. Experiment results show that the new type of power converter and the DC / DC switching mode power supply can work better on electric vehicles.

A novel switching mode power supply (SMPS) with input/output isolation is presented, which compounds the three-phase power factor corrector (PFC) with a full bridge converter in a single-stage. It solves the problem of over-voltage on the DC link due to pseudo-phase-shifting control (PPSC) mode. Its operating principle and critical parameters are analyzed. Experiment results of an isolated 10 Kw prototype show that the power factor of the system is above 0.99 and the soft-switching mode reduces most of the EMI.

For the distribution area with a high penetration rate of new energy, the traditional power supply system has some problems, such as a single form of power supply and low utilization of new energy. Because the multi-port energy router can realize the interconnection and complementation of multiple energy forms, it has become the key piece of equipment in the hybrid AC/DC distribution area. Nevertheless, restricted by the existing control strategy, the performance of the energy router in complex operation mode switching and coordinated control still needs to be further improved. To address this issue, the free switching control strategy is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the topology and model of the multi-port energy router are designed and established. Secondly, the operation mode of the system is analyzed, and the control strategy of each port is designed. Then, a reference power calculation method suitable for multi-mode operation is derived. Based on this, the control strategy does not need to be changed when operation modes are switched. Furthermore, the extended state observer is introduced to track and compensate for the new energy disturbance, which can improve the power quality of the system. Finally, the simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control strategy of the multi-port energy router can realize flexible and controllable power transmission among various modules in the distribution area and the free switching of multi-operation modes without changing the control strategy.

Solusi dari mitigasi EMI tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan filter EMI. Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) merupakan sumber daya bagi hampir seluruh perangkat elektronik, namun SMPS ini juga sumber EMI untuk perangkat lain atau bahkan perangkat itu sendiri. Banyak perangkat elektronik yang beredar dipasaran namun belum memenuhi standar EMC. Dalam hal ini mitigasi EMI yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan menggunakan filter EMI eksternal pasif. Dengan filter pasif ini EMI dari SMPS dapat diredam tanpa memerlukan energi tambahan untuk filter itu sendiri. Penelitian ini akan melakukan perancangan filter EMI untuk meredam noise conducted emission menggunakan sebuah passive EMI filter (PEF) pada SMPS. Filter PEF yang telah dirancang dan diujikan dapat digunakan pada SMPS 1 dan SMPS 2 dengan noise conducted emission sebelum filter sebesar 97,86 dBµV yang diredam menjadi 33 dBµV dan menghasilkan redaman noise conducted emission yang sangat baik (hingga 64,86 dBµV) dan memenuhi standar yang ditetapkan (CISPR22 Class B).

The Positive Channel Two Input Two Output (PCTITO) converter is a third Order MIMO DC-to-DC unidirectional and non-isolated switching converter that is derived from the non-inverting buck-boost converter. Negative and Dual Channel TITO converters are also presented. In steady state one of the PCTITO outputs is positive while the other is negative. Although the outputs could be regulated to provide different absolute values, an interesting application of the new converters is to provide symmetrical outputs (i.e. 15 V) to supply balanced loads. Since the absolute value of the outputs could be greater or smaller than the input voltage, the PCTITO converter will be suitable for present 14 V (from 9 to 16 V) or for future 42 V (from 30 to 50 V) automotive voltage distribution buses. To regulate the outputs two in phase equal-switching frequency PWM-based multivariable control loops have been designed. The closed-loop system must provide low audio susceptibility and good line and load regulation at both outputs. In addition, the common mode voltage between the two outputs that could appear in unbalanced load operation has to be minimized. With these general guidelines, several control parameter adjustments have been considered validated using an averaged model of the system, and tested by simulation.

Abstract The hydrocarbon industry leans heavily upon advanced technologies to extract oil and gas from greater depths and in harsher environments. The challenge to electronics manufacturers and designers is to make complex electronics work at the high temperatures, vibration, and extreme pressures encountered in these locations. Among the more critical electronic systems required for high temperature down-hole operations is high efficiency switching mode power supplies (SMPS). The use of high frequency switching permits not only decreasing the size of inductors and capacitors in the circuit design, but also obtaining typical power efficiencies up to 90%. Generally a SMPS is composed of a controller, a converter and silicon carbide (SiC) power switches. High temperature down-hole gauges operate with low voltages either 3.3V or 5.0V; however, wire-line surface power equipment utilizes higher voltages above 250 V CD. Hence, SMPS requires efficient power dissipation circuits to reduce the DC input voltage. This work describes a high temperature SMPS that has a DC input range from 150 V CD to 300 V CD, ± 6 V CD output voltages and 12 W total power. The SMPS design uses a CA start up pulse provided by a programmable surface power supply via a mono-conductor wire-line cable; subsequently, the SMPS sustains its operation by powering itself using one of the voltage outputs. The obtained laboratory tests results of the down-hole SMPS, using changes in temperature from 25 °C – 200 °C, provide a firm basis for testing and evaluating the DC-CD power supply in high temperature gauges in the field.

Abstract Targeting the situation that the wireless communication terminal commonly exists in the pilot project of distribution automation has an unstable power supply under extreme conditions, this paper proposes a non-real-time online working mode that is different from the traditional real-time online working mode. The switching method of the two working modes was designed, and the comparison and analysis between the two working modes were performed in terms of the timeliness of event active reporting, communication flow, the impact on the processing mechanism of the master station system and the impact on the working duration of the power supply. The results show that the average power consumption of the wireless communication terminal under the non-real-time working mode is reduced from the watt level to the mill watt level, thus the power supply problem of the wireless communication terminal under extreme conditions is solved.

In this study, we propose a design methodology for a switching-mode RF CMOS power amplifier with an output transformer. For a given supply voltage, output power, and target efficiency, the initial values of the transistor size, output inductance, and capacitance can be sequentially determined during the design of the power amplifier. The breakdown voltage of the power transistor is considered in the design methodology. To prove the feasibility of the proposed design methodology, we provide the design example of a 2.4-GHz switching-mode CMOS power amplifier with 180-nm RF CMOS technology. From the measured results, the feasibility of the proposed design methodology is proved.

The article provides a comparative assessment of various ways of powering a synchronous motor with permanent magnets (PMSM) in the mode of a thyratron motor (TM). Numerically, on analytical and computer models, mechanical ω = f(M), the dependence of speed on electromagnetic torque, and energy ηэ = f(M), the dependence of elec-tromagnetic efficiency are calculated from the moment, the characteristics of the motor with sinusoidal power supply and discrete switching with different values of the relative inductance of the winding. Moment pulsations are investigated. The three most common methods of discrete degree commutation are considered – 120, 180 and 150. It is shown that discrete 120 degree commutation provides the highest value of ηэ in comparison with other methods, and the mechanical character-istics are approximately the same in appearance with different power supply methods. The study of moment pulsations has shown that discrete switching without additional measures cannot compete in this indicator with the case of sinusoidal power supply, which theoretically has zero moment pulsations. However, the use of 150 degree commutation makes it possible to significantly reduce them, bringing them closer to 2…3 %. Curves are given that allow an approximate estimate of the expected moment pulsations for all discrete switching methods. Practical recommendations on the choice of the method of powering the PMSM are given.

Switch-mode power supplies represent a particular class of variable structure systems (VSS). Thus, they can take advantage of non-linear control techniques developed for this class of systems. In this paper the so called sliding mode control is reviewed and its application to switch-mode power supplies is discussed. Sliding mode control extends the properties of hysteresis control to multi-variable environments, resulting in stability even for large supply and load variations, good dynamic response and simple implementation. Application to dc–dc converters, as well as rectifiers and inverters, is analyzed and provisions to overcome the inherent drawbacks of sliding mode control, i.e. variable switching frequency and possible steady-state errors, are described. Experimental results are also reported, which allow a comparison between the sliding mode approach and other standard control techniques, e.g. current-mode control, showing its effectiveness.

ObjectivesThe aim of the study is to increase the energy efficiency of an arc furnace’s power supply system and low-voltage circuit. According to the aim of the research, the relevant tasks of determining the capacitor capacity for reactive power compensation and selecting a rational location for its installation are posed.MethodsWithin the framework of the previously developed concept of changing the parameters of the switching transformer in the series compensation circuit, issues of efficient use and consumption of electrical energy by a high power linear load under sinusoidal mode are considered. The installation of static compensators using a direct compensation method with automatic control including 12 stages of regulation is proposed as a means of increasing the efficiency of the arc furnace. Challenges involved in increasing the efficiency of electric power supply to alternating current arc furnaces using compensating reactive power in a low-voltage circuit are considered.ResultsThe viability of using the series compensation circuit of reactive power with the switching of capacitors in the winding of the higher voltage of the series switching transformer is demonstrated.ConclusionIt is shown that for efficient use and consumption of electric energy by highpower linear load under sinusoidal conditions, it is advisable to apply the series compensation of reactive power with the switching of capacitors in the winding of the higher voltage of the series switching transformer. This makes it possible to increase the efficiency coefficient of electric arc furnace power supply devices by reducing the power losses in the power supply system and in the furnace lowvoltage circuit by 1.6 times, as well as reducing the total load in the power transformer by 1.36 times.

Soft-switching technique is used to improve output efficiency of induction cooker. Switch voltage regulation by fuzzy control are used to adjust output power of induction cooker. Soft-switching inverter consists of resonant DC link and LC resonant network. Resonant DC link is used to realize ZVS, and resonant network is used to eliminate harmonics. Fuzzy control based on look-up table is adopted to adjust duty cycle of switch mode regulated power supply, which changes the DC supply voltage, so that amplitude of AC signal inverted by induction cooker is changed to adjust output power of induction cooker according to the requirement, , ensuring the operating temperature aligned with the target temperature.
