SVPWM (Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) technique is type of traditional PWM method that efficiently utilizes its dc link voltage and generates high voltage pulses with low harmonic content and high modulation index. VSI (Voltage Source Inverter) with SVPWM generates adjustable voltage and frequency signals for VSDs (Variable Speed Drives). This research work presents the simplified SVPWM technique for controlling the speed and torque of induction motor. The performance of developed SVPWM technique is analyzed in terms of its switching losses and harmonic content and compared with SPWM (Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation). Mathematical modeling for induction motor control through two-level VSI with SVPWM and SPWM is presented. The voltage and current TDHs (Total Harmonic Distortions) of the drive with SVPWM technique are 73.23 and 63.3% respectively as compared to 101.99 and 77.89% with SPWM technique. Similarly, the switching losses with SVPWM technique are 178.79 mW and that of with SPWM are 269.45 mW. Simulink modeling and laboratory setup are developed to testify the efficacy of SVPWM and SPWM techniques. The modulation factor of SVPWM technique is 0.907 which is higher as compared to SPWM technique with 0.785 modulation factor.

A simulation analysis of a voltage source inverter using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) to control the speed of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) has been presented in this research. PMSM is an AC drive that widely helps in high power propulsion systems. SVPWM is one of the best PWM techniques. The SVPWM is powered by a voltage source inverter connected to the PMSM. Space vector modulation is responsible for developing pulses to control the switches of the inverter. This research introduces an SVPWM-fed three-phase voltage source inverter for controlling the speed of PMSM drives using MATLAB/Simulink.

This paper analyses the harmonic distribution of current and voltage of inverter output based on RSVPWM control strategy and compares the result with normal SVPWM strategy. It gives the random strategy and verifiesthe strategys feasibility. Experimental results show that RSVPWM control method makes harmonic energy evenly distributed in wide frequency band, and changes the original discrete harmonic spectrum into a continuous spectrum on the whole frequency band as much as possible. Random switching frequency SVPWM control scheme could reduce the harmonic energy which focuses on the integral multiple of switching frequency, thus reducing electromagnetic noise and mechanical vibration.

Memory, speed, reliability, and efficiency are the main characteristics of concern in new contemporary control techniques of electric power converters. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is a widespread digital compute-intensive control technique used in the control of power converters. This study aims to overcome the large number of calculations needed by the SVPWM algorithm, which limits its implementation in many advanced industrial applications. This paper presents a low-cost software implemented simplified SVPWM technique. The proposed strategy generates the inverter switching times in a straightforward manner with no need for complicated and time-consuming sector identification and look-up switching tables. A simulation study has been done using MATLAB/SIMULINK environment for the three-phase voltage source converter (VSC). The results in terms of total harmonic distortion (THD) in the converter line voltage are compared for the proposed technique, conventional SVPWM, and space pulse width modulation (SPWM). The execution time is reduced considerably with a slight increase in the value of THD and about 14.4 percent DC-link voltage utilization over the SPWM.

The model of a three-phase voltage source inverter is examined based on space vector theory. SVPWM offers an improved outcome with the inverter as compared to the conservative SPWM technique for the inverter. There is a 15.5% upsurge in the line voltage of the inverter. SVPWM better exploits the available DC-link power with the SVPWM inverter. It has been revealed that the SVPWM method utilizes DC bus voltage extra competently and produces a smaller amount of harmonic distortion and easier digital realization in a three-phase voltage-source inverter. For converter‘s gating signals generation, the space-vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy lessens the switching losses by restricting the switching to two-thirds of the pulse duty cycle. A hypothetical study regarding the use of the SVPWM the three-level voltage inverter and simulation results are offered to prove the usefulness of the SVPWM in the involvement in the switching power losses lessening, output voltages with fewer harmonics. Nevertheless, despite all the above-cited benefits that SVPWM enjoys over SPWM, the SVPWM technique used in three-level inverters is more difficult on account of a large number of inverter switching states. The attained simulation outcomes were satisfactory. As prospects, future experimental works will authenticate the simulation results. A software simulation model is developed in Matlab/Simulink.

This article presents a SVPWM technique for inverter with two levels to operate the IM drive (induction motor) with Buck Boost converter. SVPWM are increasingly gained importance in high power industrial drive applications. SVPWM technique is preferred in order to decrease the THD value, switching losses and ripples. If any fault occurs in the main supply, the Buck Boost converter which acts as a battery storage device is used as supply to continuously drive the induction without any interruption. The main advantage of Buck Boost converter is it has continuous flow of input current. In the proposed scheme, the two-level SVPWM technique strategy fed IM has been modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique is an advanced computation-intensive PWM method. It is the best among all PWM techniques for three-phase induction motor (TIM) drive applications because of its superior performance characteristics. In this paper, the use of artificial neural network (ANN) based SVPWM technique avoids the computational complex used in conventional SVM implementation. An ANN scheme structure is suggested to identify and approximate the conventional SVPWM for decrease the computational problem. Moreover, proportional-integral (PI) controller tuning is achieved using a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to improve the TIM speed controller’s response performance. By designing an appropriate PSO algorithm, kp and ki of the PI speed controller parameters are tuned for TIM to attain the best parameter values.

<p>This paper presents new modified space vector pulse width modulation techniques (Phase disposition-Space vector pulse width modulation, Alternative Phase Opposition disposition- Space vector pulse width modulation and Phase Opposition disposition-Space vector pulse width modulation) are analyzed for three-phase cascaded multi-level inverter fed induction motor from the point of view of the Phase voltages, line voltage, stator current,speed,torque and Total harmonic distortion.in the proposed modified technique the reference signals are generated by adding offset voltage to the reference phase voltages.This modified SVPWM technique does not involve region indentification,sector identification for switching vector determination as are required in the conventional multi level SVPWM technique,it is also reduces the computation time compared to the conventional space vector PWM technique.The necessary calculations for generation of new modified SVPWM for the modulation strategies have presented in detail. It is observed that the modified SVPWM modulation ensures excellent, close to optimized pulse distribution results and THD is compared to for five-level, seven-level, nine-level and eleven-level Cascaded H-Bride Multi-level Inverter fed to Induction motor. Theoretical investigations were confirmed by the digital simulations using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.</p>

Abstract A highly popular alternative in medium voltage and high-power applications is multilevel converters because of their superior performance over conventional two-level converters. The most commonly used control methods in the case of multilevel inverters are sine pulse width modulation (SPWM) and space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) methods. Among these two control strategies, SVPWM has superior performance over SPWM in terms of DC bus voltage utilization along with a reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD) of line voltages. The classical SVPWM method has various drawbacks such as computational complexity for identifying the location of reference voltage vector, sector identification, region identification, memory requirement to store lookup tables for switching vectors. The novel simplified SVPWM technique is presented for cascaded H-Bridge multilevel inverter (CHBMLI) in this paper. This simplified SVPWM method has overcome the drawbacks of the classical SVPWM method. This new technique has been implemented into a five-level CHBMLI to evaluate performance and also to compare with the SPWM method. The simulation has been performed in MATLAB software.

Electric Vehicles is call for today and tomorrow and induction motor drives are best chosen for the motional part in the system because of their enormous advantages. Three phase inverter fed induction motor drives are being used in the vehicles that have been made yet and research are still going to reduce the cost and complexity along with increased reliability to meet it at consumer ends without compromising its performance. In this dissertation an effort is made to reduce the cost of system by utilizing four-switch three phase inverter to feed induction motor drive. Also if conventional six switch inverter system incurred a fault in any one leg then shifting the motor load to four switch three phase alternatives would increase the reliability to great extent. Performance analysis for three induction motor drives with FS3P topology is presented along with the comparison between the conventional six-switch and proposed four switch inverter is made and discussed. Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation technique is used in proposed topology to produce three phase voltages at the output of four switch inverter, also SVPWM has advantages like better DC voltage utilization, Switching losses reduction and easier digital implementation. The validity of FS3P topology and performance of induction motor drives is verified by simulated results and MATLAB/SIMULINK platform has been utilized for simulation purpose.

The thesis discusses the analysis of DSP-based multilevel-inverter with novel SVPWM technique powered by the photovoltaic energy. The complete system consists of a novel ZVT charge and discharge converter and a multilevel inverter with novel SVPWM techniques. The capabilities of this system involve the maximum power point tracking (MPPT), zero voltage transition (ZVT), the battery charge and discharge to balance the power system, and the multilevel output of inverter. In the novel ZVT charge and discharge converter, it reduces some element to save the cost and does not influence the normal operation. This topology can make the maximum power point tracking, and the main switch also has the capability of ZVT to minimize the loss caused by the transition of the switch. By the way, the energy transformed from the switch could be transferred to the battery and recharge the battery. The battery could also be charged and discharged to achieve the energy balance of the system. In the part of multilevel inverter, in accordance with the characteristics of topologies and photovoltaic cells, which could produce a bulk of separate dc sources, the “Cascade” frame is chosen and utilized as the dc-ac inverter. As for PWM techniques, some common PWM techniques applied to three-phase multilevel inverter are explained. Nevertheless, for the single-phase multilevel inverter, these SVPWM techniques for the three-phase inverter are not applicable; therefore this thesis proposes novel SVPWM techniques for the single-phase multilevel inverter to expect to have the superior performance. The realization of all the above-mentioned functions uses TI Company’s TMS320LF2407A digit signal processor to integrate the complete system.

In general speed control is essential in drive system. This involves variable frequency and voltage. Many pulse width modulation techniques are used for obtaining variable frequency and voltage from an inverter. The space vector pulse width modulation method with proportional integral control of induction motor drive is widely used in high performance drive system. It is due to its characteristics like good power factor and high efficiency. In this dissertation the voltage source inverter type space vector pulse width modulation using proportional integral control, ANN control and ANFIS control model design and implementation has been done through MATLAB/Simulink software for the speed control of induction motor. The performance of speed is increased by PI controller, ANN controller and ANFIS controller. The simulation results provide a smooth speed response and high performance under various dynamic operations. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is more efficient among all other pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques due to its key characteristics like better DC voltage utilization, switching losses reduction and easiness in digital implementation. The complete mathematical model of the system is described and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink.

The problems of global warming, a decrease of the available natural resources and many other problems in the world that happen recently become the major cause for increasing the demand for a new type of vehicle. That vehicle can be an environmental friend and so that a new generation of vehicles has been invented and tried to solve and avoid many problems. In this chapter, the proposed system is called the Multi-Converter/Multi-Machine system (MCMMS) which consists of two Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) that drive the two rear wheels of Pure Electric Vehicle (PEV). The SynRM speed and torque are controlled by using three different strategies of the PID controller. The PSO algorithm has been used as an optimization technique to find the optimal PID parameter to enhance the drive system performance of the PEV. In this system, the space vector pulse width modulation inverter for voltage source (VS-SVPWMI) has been employed to convert the DC battery voltage to three-phase AC voltage that feeds the SynRM motor in the PEV. The linear speed of the vehicle is controlled by an Electronic Differential Controller (EDC) which gives the reference speed for each driving wheel which depends on the driver reference speed and the steering angle. The specified driving route topology with three different road cases has been applied to acting and show the resistive forces that affected on the PEV during its moving on the road. In addition, to test the efficiency and stability of the PEV on the roads. Hence, this chapter has a full design, simulation and several comparison results for the propulsion electric vehicle system and it has tested implemented in the Matlab/Simulink environment version R2020a.

This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) traction motor drive, and analyses the impact of different modulation techniques. The most widely used modulation methods in traction motor drives are Space vector modulation (SVPWM), over-modulation, and six-step modulation have been implemented. A two-dimensional electromagnetic finite element model of the motor is co-simulated with a dynamic model of a field-oriented control (FOC) circuit. For accurate tuning of the current controllers, extended complex vector synchronous frame current regulators are employed. The DC-link voltage utilization, harmonics in the output waveforms, torque ripple, iron losses, and AC copper losses are calculated and compared with sinusoidal excitation. Overall, it is concluded that the selection of modulation technique is related to the operating condition and motor speed, and a smooth transition between different modulation techniques is essential to achieve a better performance.
