Streszczenie:
Sustainability is a key area of concern for manufacturing firms’ long-term success. However, the manufacturing industry has not been fully conscious of the potential sustainable values across manufacturing system. There is a need to better understand how companies can improve sustainable value creation. Recent research and practices have shown that sustainable operations can be one way to create sustainable values (e.g. economic, environmental and social). This review article focuses on the available empirical studies on the impact of lean and sustainability practices on sustainable performance from 2000 to 2018 in the context of manufacturing firms. Integrating lean and sustainability practices into manufacturing system confrontы operations managers with paradoxical tensions of sustainability objectives. Theoretically having paradoxical mindset will help firms’ managers make sense of and responв to such paradoxical tensions. In the context of sustainable operations studies, the issue of paradoxical mindset has been given less emphasis. Therefore, through the lens of the paradox theory, this study has developed a new conceptual framework for future research to investigate how paradoxical mindset moderates the impact of lean and sustainability practices on the sustainable performance of manufacturing industry. This study may add to the understanding of the circumstances, under which lean and sustainability practices impact sustainable outcomes.

The issues of tightness and abrasion resistance of the new design of the ZMS-type valve are considered. An analytical expression was obtained to determine the relative pressure generated across the check valve of the improved valve. Checked the condition of the valve tightness and abrasion resistance. The new valve design was tested at JSCO “NEFTGAZMASH”, and as a result of the tests it was found that the new valve fully complies with these conditions. Keywords: leakage, relative pressure, seal, improved, ZMS, abrasion resistance.

The study of the sustainability level of Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest, is intended to determine the status of sustainabilty, and lever attributes in the management of Bukit Betabuh protection Forest. This study was conducted with a multi-dimensional scaling analysis (MDS) approach with the help of Rapfish software. The research was conducted from August-september 2019 in the Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest area. Research objectives are analyzing the existing condition of Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest, Analying the sustainability status of Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest, Analyze levers that take effect Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest, and Designing the formulation of Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest. The research methods include : 1) Data collection methods (surveys, field measurements, sampling, intervies, and library research), 2) Data analysis methods (descriptive analysis of the ecological characteristics of protected forest, economic and social communities around the Bukit Betabuh Protection Forest, MDS analysis with Rapforest techniques to determine the level of sustainabillity in the management of the Bukit Batabuh Protection Forest). Based on the research that has been done, it turns out that the management of Bukit Batabuh Protection Forest shows that there is an imbalance in the dimensions (ecological, economic and social). The sustainability status of Bukit Batabuh Protection Forest is currently multidimensional, including the catagory of moderately sustainable with a sustainability index value of 55 %. Meanwhile, the result of the analysis of each dimension showed that the ecological dimension of the sustainability index was 63,4 % and the social dimension was 61,25 % which meant that it was quite coninous. Whle yhe economic dimension of sustainability index is 43,0 % which means it is not sustainable.

Streszczenie:
Sustainability of intensive irrigated agriculture in Egypt has become a critical issue, as land and water resources are limited on the one hand and population is increasing rapidly on the other. Salinization, heavy input use, nutrient export and pollution all threaten the health of soils that have been feeding Egypt for centuries. At the same time, the build-up of newly reclaimed desert soils to economically sustainable productive capacity is a major challenge. In a collaborative effort between the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Egypt and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), a long-term resource management programme, funded by the European Union, has been developed to address the issue of resource management in a multidisciplinary way. Long-term agronomic trials (with such variables as water quantity, water quality, nutrient inputs and crop rotations) have been set up at sites representing the old lands, the newly reclaimed areas and the rainfed areas. These trials are complemented by extensive long-term monitoring in villages close to the experimental sites. This covers farmers' perspectives, farming practices and the condition of farmers' soils and crops and is aimed at identifying over time the sustainable and non-sustainable production practices and the social and economic factors that underline them. The project activities began with a Preparatory Phase which comprised inventory studies, rapid rural appraisal and multi-disciplinary surveys. This knowledge was used in the planning of the two closely related activities of long-term trials (LTT) and long-term monitoring (LTM). As the programme was implemented, the complementarity of the LTT and LTM approaches became the most important feature of this programme.

Streszczenie:
Purpose – Academic approaches to the challenge of enhancing sustainability in research in university contexts illustrate that universities are affected by the very same values and socio-ecological issues they set out to address, making transformation difficult at every level. A theoretical and practical framework designed to facilitate cultural transformation is therefore necessary for conceptualising the problem and delineating possible strategies to enhance sustainability in research. Organisational change is also required, possibly on a university-by-university basis, where cross-institutional learning may be possible with personal behaviours that enhance collaboration across disciplinary and administrative divides. Design/methodology/approach – This paper contends that action research, in particular, community action research (CAR), offers the best approach to this task because it focusses on learning and change, and these are both essential to cultural transformation. A case study from a university in Western Australia is used to demonstrate this approach. Findings – The case study analysis shows some evidence for the presence of knowledge for organisational transformation, and that future monitoring cycles will be needed to detect the extent of the change. Originality/value – The paper introduces CAR as an approach to advance the change for sustainability in higher education and discusses some of the implications for universities who are looking to incorporate sustainability as a major part of their culture.

Experimental studies are a valuable tool to test effective strategies for encouraging sustainable behavior but have not been used much in corporate sustainability research. In this article, we describe the benefits and challenges of the randomized field experimental method for research in corporate sustainability. We draw on the examples of our own research in energy conservation behavior to illustrate some of the hurdles that need to be overcome for the successful implementation of field experiments.
