Streszczenie:
Background: The large percentage of research in this area focuses on the triple-bottom line of sustainability, which entails understanding the economic, social, and environmental outcomes of supply chain process. A few sustainability measures have been proposed in the literature to recognize supply chain sustainability, assisting interested parties in making strategic decisions. Researchers and practitioners alike have become more aware of and interested in sustainable supply chain management. The majority of these studies, however, focus on supply chains in wealthy countries, with little research on sustainable supply chains in poor countries. Existing research focuses solely on the triple bottom line approach to supply chain sustainability, and more study is needed to identify and quantify additional components of supply chain sustainability. Although the lack of empirical evidence in the current conceptual study, it intends to propose this index to improve the evaluation and health coverage of public health supply chains. It will serve as a starting point for more study and will allow for actual testing of the index in public health supply chains.

Purpose Around the world, protecting environment and purchasing green products by the manufacturing firms progressively becomes a popular and important issue. Manufacturers are realizing the importance of producing green products under green practices. This study aims to propose an appraisement platform to evaluate the overall performance index of a firm under green practices. Furthermore, the study also helps in identifying ill-performing areas, which necessarily require future attention to augment green supply chain (GSC) of a firm. A case research is conducted to assess the real-life application by the proposed approach. Design/methodology/approach The authors used fuzzy performance index to measure the overall performance index of a firm. Beside this, they proposed a degree of similarity approach amalgamated with fuzzy performance importance index to classify the ills and strong indices in GSC extent. Finding The intermittent assessment of green practices and their metrics in the organizational supply chain management (SCM) is indeed necessary. The present study provides an appraisement module to assess overall GSC fuzzy performance index and also helps in identifying the ill-performing areas which require future augmentation toward successful green implementation. Originality/value The exposed research work dealt with chains of subjective indices (measure and their interrelated metrics), which are induced into hierarchical appraisement module. To tackle the uncertainty of indices, the subjective indices are transposed into interval-valued fuzzy number set (IVFNS), as IVFNs are preferred to undertake the uncertainty of GSC indices. The proposed approach is demonstrated with a case research to justify its validity and originality.

Pharmaceuticals companies manufacture and maintain the stocks of several medicines. Presently, hospitals maintain stock to supply the appropriate medicine to patients under their care. The availability of medicines is dependent on the service level of suppliers. In last decade, the pharmaceutical supply chains have been an increasingly important topic. Pharmaceutical supply chains of the medicine manufacturing firm are based on traditional supply chain strategies. But, the concept became obsolete, replaced by modern supply chain strategy. The modern supply chain better analyzes pharmaceutical architectures such as green, service, agile, resilient, flexible manufacturing and is called the pharmaceutical G-F-A-L-R supply chain. To evolve a new model for the pharmaceutical supply chain, a 2nd second level pharmaceutical hierarchy G-F-A-L-R supply chain module structure has been constructed, where a Fuzzy Performance Index model has been applied on the module to compute the overall performance of individual pharmaceutical companies.

Risk for an organization is associated with uncertainties in all areas of its operations. As firms move toward global sourcing, supply chain risk increases dramatically, which is linked to lower financial performance and market value. One major type of supply chain risk is disruptions caused by natural or man-made disasters. In this paper, major factors causing supply chain disruptions are identified based on resource dependency theory and contingency theory. As a result of the study, a comprehensive supply chain risk index for natural disasters is proposed by including two major factors (i.e. location and single source). Actions are suggested for supply chain managers to lower disruption risks within a supply chain when they use the risk index as a measure.

The risk management for agricultural products supply chain is more complex than that for typical manufacturing supply chain. Agricultural production is vulnerable to severe weather such as heavy rain, cyclones, and cold wave, which challenges the matching of random output with random demand for agricultural products supply chains. The goal of this paper is to design an effective risk transfer mechanism for managing severe weather risks so as to ensure the stable operation of the agricultural products supply chain. We study the coordination of two-level agricultural products supply chain with a single company and a single farmer under the influence of severe weather. Taking rainstorm weather as an example, this paper designs a risk transfer mechanism based on weather index (rainfall) insurance: “rainfall index insurance + revenue sharing + risk transfer fee.” It is found that this risk transfer mechanism can overcome distortion of the farmer’s agricultural investment level under the influence of severe weather. When the contract parameters meet certain conditions, using the risk transfer mechanism can achieve the supply chain coordination and a win-win situation. More importantly, weather change does not affect the Pareto improvement of the company and the farmer under the risk transfer mechanism. In addition, we also find that the company can incentivize the farmer to purchase weather index insurance and use the insurance market to shift the severe weather risk encountered during the agricultural production to protect the company’s and farmer’s income and the stable operation of the supply chain.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the supply chain leagility proposing all supply chains are leagile with different magnitudes of leanness and agility. A new index, “Deviation from Leagility” (DFL), is introduced, aiming to optimise supply chain design and investigate the relationship between supply chain leagility and firm performance. Design/methodology/approach The partial least squares (PLS) method was employed to analyse data collected from 299 Australian firms by administering a structured questionnaire. Findings The results indicate that most companies adopt the leagile supply chain rather than the lean or pure agile design. Furthermore, better business performance is achievable when deviation from a balanced supply chain in which both aspects of leanness and agility are equally embedded is minimised. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to a number of constraints that measure leagility; further research is needed to incorporate different aspects of agility. Practical implications The findings of this study could provide a guideline for supply chain executives to improve their company’s performance by designing a more balanced leagile supply chain. Originality/value This study is unique in its in-depth empirical investigation of modelling of leagile supply chain using a new index, and also addressing: first, the current mismatch between the well-known mutually exclusive strategies (lean/agile); and second, what has later been found when the proposed models were quantitatively tested.

The necessity for food traceability has been increased over the years with the expansion of food supply chains globally over these years due to stringent of food safety regulations. Enhancing the access to quality food safely is one of the essential requirements of food supply chain traceability. Conversely, significant percentages of postharvest losses available especially in developing countries due to poor supply chain and logistics practices thereby threatening food security. Unless there is a possibility to trace the Supply chain, it is difficult to take remedial actions. When it comes to Sri Lanka, currently it is harder to have the traceability in most of the foods supply chains commonly on most of the elementary supply chains such as fruits and vegetables. This has led to postharvest losses since it is harder to identify when and where damages occur, who are accountable, harvested and transient times, supply demand mismatch too. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the feasibility of tracing of fruit and vegetable supply chain in Sri Lanka and contribute theoretically to facilitate authorities and decision makers for future traceability improvement. Availability of secondary information on fruits and vegetables traceability was examined referring to government agencies. Basic structure of supply chain was identified based on secondary data and a case study was conducted based on supply chains linked to Thambuththegama and Keppetipola Dedicated Economic Centers to gather primary data. To quantify the feasibility of tracing, a feasibility index was developed. Developed index was used to assess the feasibility towards improved traceability of selected chains where it can be applied for other food and non-food supply chains as well. The feasibility index can be used for other fruits and vegetables supply chains too to assess the feasibility prior to implementation of a traceability system. Furthermore, it can be used for non-food supply chains with some modifications. Analysis revealed that poor feasibility of wholesalers compared to farmers and retailers. Product identification technologies, awareness and willingness for traceability improvement were ranged low to fair for all the entity categories. Hence, enhancement of record-keeping and information sharing, adopting product identification and quality measurement technologies, and strengthening of legislation were identified as key improvements for enhanced fruits and vegetable traceability and efficient postharvest management of studied supply chains

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an update to the Supply Chain Volatility Index (SCVI), and expand on prior work by presenting a conceptual framework illustrating how firms can deal with persistent volatility, the ensuing risk and mitigate the cost implications for their supply chain operations. Design/methodology/approach The authors use long-term time series of secondary data to assemble a “basket” of key indicators that are relevant to the business context within which global supply chains operate. The authors also report on five years of feedback gained from presentations of the SCVI to scholars and practitioners. Findings Volatility has reduced from record levels experienced during the global financial crises, yet remains at levels considerably higher than prior to the crisis, with no sign of a return to the more stable conditions that prevailed when many current supply chain networks were designed. Research limitations/implications The authors reaffirm that new mental models are needed which embrace volatility as a factor in supply chain design, rather than seek to eradicate it in supply chain operations. Traditional static “network optimisation” based on a simple definition of low unit cost seems no longer appropriate under conditions of persistent volatility. Practical implications The authors provide a conceptual link of volatility, risk and cost in the supply chain, and outline how firms can develop a supply chain strategy by managing their exposure to volatility. Originality/value The authors challenge the common assumption that volatility invariably leads to risk and higher cost in the supply chain. Instead the authors argue that the supply chain structure can mitigate the exposure to supply chain risk. The authors introduce the concepts of recovery and resilience cost within a framework designed to help firms manage volatility-induced risk by minimising the adverse cost implications of volatility in their supply chains.

Global markets are now becoming volatile in most industries and the importance of their abilities to adapt to rapid and unexpected changes have surfaced. Modern organizations have to respond quickly to their customers’ dynamic demands without compromising on quality, productivity and cost. Achieving agility lies in de-signing agile friendly processes and thus firms need to concentrate on their supply chains and its enablers in the attempt of redressing themselves as responsive supply chains. To evaluate and improve the levels of supply chain agility, a model called Total Agile Design System (TADS) is proposed. TADS as a methodology identifies supply chain enablers and prioritize them in order to achieve supply chain agility. In this scoring model, agility index before and after implementation of TADS are measured and discussed. The results validate the proposed model and lend evidence to the current thinking of impinging on agile concepts in traditional supply chains for competitive advantage and survival.

Supply chains today amass huge amounts of data. To remain competitive in a global economy, organizations need to constantly derive meaningful information from this plethora of data to make critical business decisions. The process of gaining meaningful and actionable knowledge from supply chain related data is referred to as Supply Chain Analytics (SCA). As a result of demonstrated benefits from SCA, organizations are spending considerable amount of resources to develop these analytical capabilities. However, due to complexities of such undertakings, many SCA projects fail to achieve the desired results. It is argued that a major reason for such failures is lack of organizational readiness to embrace analytics. This paper presents an index for measuring the readiness of organizations to successfully implement SCA. The Supply Chain Analytics Index, henceforth referred to SCAX, was developed by surveying 112 SCA professionals from 7 countries and from various industries and professional backgrounds. Using this index, organizations can tangibly assess their readiness to take full advantage of the power of SCA.

This paper aims to estimate the impact of ICT and technological development of countries on supply chain trade. As proxy measures of supply chain trade, the author applies domestic value added (DVAFX) included in gross-foreign exports, and foreign-value added included in domestic exports (FVA) from the Eora MRIO database while constructing the ICT variable by using confirmatory factor analysis. Furthermore, as a proxy variable for the country’s technological development, the author applies the economic complexity index developed by Harvard’s Growth Lab, conducting her analysis based on the structural gravity model estimated with the Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood Estimator (PPML). Together with the standard gravity regressors, the model includes the bilateral position of countries in the supply chain. Our panel dataset covers the 2000-2019 period, including 130 world countries. To control for the potential source of endogeneity, the model includes reporter and partner country fixed effects, yearly fixed effects, and country-pair fixed effects. The results confirm a statistically significant relationship between the country’s technological development and supply-chain trade. Technological development enables a country to produce more complex, higher value-added products and thus to be more upstream positioned in the supply chain. The more upstream the country is in the supply chain, the higher the domestic value added is included in its exports.

Building a resilient and stable supply chain has become an important strategy for many countries. Studies have shown that the application of additive manufacturing (AM) technology in construction can help offset the negative impact of “black swan events” on supply chains. This study examines the construction industry based on AM technology and analyzes the impact of changes in the industry chain on the supply chains. The specific factors that affect the resilience of AM construction supply chains were identified through literature research and expert interviews, including 7 dimensions and 21 secondary indicators. An intuitionistic fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (IFAHP) evaluation model was established. Finally, an example of an AM construction manufacturer, YC Enterprise, was introduced to quantify the various factors and determine the weights. The results show that the essence of building a supply chain with AM is creating a closed-loop supply chain. The impact of AM construction manufacturers on supply chain resilience (SCR) is the most critical, followed by that of regulatory authorities and general contractors. The AM construction SCR assessment index system and evaluation method constructed in this paper have important significance in filling the gap in the quantitative evaluation of the impact of AM on supply chains.

Based on Stackelberg's master–slave game theory and green index decision-making conditions, this paper studies the benefit coordination of a supply chain network composed of a business flow network and logistics network, discusses the decision-making behavior of the main body of the supply chain network under the performance of green contracts or speculative behavior, respectively, and further constructs the supply chain network collaborative benefit coordination model under the guidance of a manufacturer considering a green development index. The supply chain network interest coordination model analyzes the relationship between the dominant manufacturer behavior and the supply chain network green index and network profit. The results show that fulfilling green contracts helps improve the profitability and sustainability of supply chain networks. A counter-intuitive but interesting result is that the dominant manufacturers increase the cost-sharing ratio or penalties of the logistics network, which will reduce the profit level and green index of the logistics network, and increase the cost-sharing ratio or punishment of the suppliers. Strength will increase the profitability and green index of the logistics network. Finally, we validate the relevant conclusions of the model through numerical simulation analysis.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify a classification scheme which represents the variation in business and supply chain performance of supply chains in Indian manufacturing industry. Classification is done by presenting an empirical taxonomy of clusters representing supply chains in Indian manufacturing industry based on variation in supply chain excellence index (SCEI) and business performance index (BPI). Design/methodology/approach The clustering of supply chains in Indian manufacturing industry is done by considering BPI and SCEI as clustering variables, which were found by using survey responses and results of a prior empirical study which was carried out in Indian manufacturing industry. The cluster analysis is performed by using Ward’s agglomerative hierarchical clustering followed by using K-means clustering algorithm to establish final set of clusters. Findings It was found that supply chains in Indian manufacturing industries can be clustered in four major clusters which are named as strategic, celebrity, capable and undeveloped cluster. The characteristics of these clusters reveal some major characteristics of supply chains in Indian manufacturing industry. Originality/value The research work presented in this paper takes a novel way to introduce the clusters of supply chains in Indian manufacturing industry. The researchers who are seeking patterns in large data sets of manufacturing companies of Indian industry will be benefitted by using the proposed clusters. While practitioners who are seeking to move their supply chain one step ahead will also reap the benefits of the paper by seeking the characteristics of particular cluster.

An information system is very important in today's changing world, and therefore choosing the proper system is becoming a very important decision. With the time, the information systems have become more crucial, with multiple problems affecting the supply chain and the continuous writing of performance areas. The principle of chain management aims at chain values. The working of chain management states that chain management enhances the value of the chain by establishing operational units. Traditional manufacturing supply chains bear a lot from additional, costs, delays and information loss due to information middleware’s. Therefore, we propose a blockchain oriented supply chain architecture to reduce intrusion in traditional ones. Current approaches to private-key security include signature schemes based on bio-metrics, index-hidden private key design, and post-quantum block chain schemes. Nevertheless, recovering the lost private key is difficult in all approaches. Here we proposed an optimal key formation procedure using a fitness-based self-adaptive sea lion algorithm for secure information sharing in SCM using block chain.

At present, there are widespread financing difficulties in China's trade circulation industry. Supply chain finance can provide financing for small- and medium-sized enterprises in China’s trade circulation industry, but it will produce financing risks such as credit risks. It is necessary to analyze the causes of the risks in the supply chain finance of the trade circulation industry and measure these risks by establishing a credit risk assessment system. In this article, a supply chain financial risk early warning index system is established, including 4 first-level indicators and 29 third-level indicators. Then, on the basis of the supply chain financial risk early warning index system, combined with the method of convolution neural network, the supply chain financial risk early warning model of trade circulation industry is constructed, and the evaluation index is measured by the method of principal component analysis. Finally, the relevant data of trade circulation enterprises are selected to make an empirical analysis of the model. The conclusion shows that the supply chain financial risk early warning model and risk control measures established in this article have certain reference value for the commercial circulation industry to carry out supply chain finance. It also provides guidance for trade circulation enterprises to deal with supply chain financial risks effectively.

Digital transformation and sustainability are both at the forefront of current supply chain developments. However, the specific mechanisms of how digital transformation and green supply chain development interact still need to be clarified, which can help supply chain business operators to enhance supply chain sustainability more effectively. This paper focuses on how the companies’ organization structure and the socio-economic environment interact with digital technologies under the process of green supply chain development. Based on the “Technology–Organization–Environment” (TOE) framework, this paper analyze how digital transformation can drive green supply chain development. To test the TOE theoretical analysis framework, this paper calculates the digital transformation and green supply chain development index at the provincial level in China and conducts an empirical study. The main findings and implications of this paper can be summarized in the following aspects: First, according to the TOE theory, the external environment dimensions, such as the market and policy environments, affect the role of digital technology in promoting GSC development. Second, in the organizational dimensions, labor–capital relations, company size, and ownership factors can all affect the contribution of digital transformation to green supply chains. Third, there are differences in the impact of different types of digitization technologies on GSC development.

Prefabricated building is an objective requirement to achieve sustainable development of the construction industry. However, it should be noted that Chinese enterprises are characterized by an immature supply chain management mechanism, and weak environmental protection awareness and social responsibility awareness. Therefore, from the perspective of sustainable development, a performance evaluation system for a prefabricated building supply chain was established based on SEM (Structural Equation Model) and virtual frontier SBM–DEA (Slacks-Based Measure and Data Envelopment Analysis). Upon summarization of a great deal of literatures, the most influential 34 indexes were selected, after which the weight calculation and index screening were performed using SEM method. Second, the performance evaluation was conducted using the virtual SBM–DEA method. Horizontally, a comparison is made on the performance and total performance of the four sub-units (supply chain operation, economic benefit, environmental protection and social liabilities) in the supply chain; vertically, the dynamic changes of the supply chain in time dimension are assessed. After the evaluation system was applied into enterprises, research results show that factors affecting the performance of the corporate supply chain are ranked as: supply chain operation > economic benefits > environmental protection > social responsibility. At the same time, the performance of 14 supply chains was evaluated, in order to provide guidance for supply chain management in enterprises.

In recent years, the agent technology has been successfully applied in supply chains, thanks to its excellent interactivity, proactivity, and autonomy. However, the existing research on multi-agent green supply chain (GSC) stops on the strategic and tactical levels, failing to implement the relevant supply chain models. To overcome the limitation, this paper designs a multi-agent GSC management system for retailers, with the aim to obtain scientific collaboration strategies among multiple agents and to make effective logistics decisions for the supply chain. Firstly, a 3-layer hierarchical evaluation index system (EIS) was established under the framework of the multi-agent GSC management system. Next, the authors modeled the supply-demand relationship and dynamic game of multi-agent GSC, and discussed the cooperation and negotiation models among multiple agents. Experimental results show that the proposed multi-agent GSC management model is highly effective. The research findings provide a reference for the application of multi-agent technology in other types of supply chain enterprises.

Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) has becoming an imperative issue for several supply chains (SCs) due to environmental burdens defined by international legislation and to increasing costs of such a resource. The present paper proposes a decision support system aiming to evaluate more effective GSCM strategies. Thus, environmental performance of the whole supply chain, and consequently of each supplier involved, must be compared in a standardized and quantitative way. Thus, the proposed approach integrates index methods for Environmental Performance Evaluation (EPE) in developing a multi-criteria model based on the Analytic Network Process (ANP) technique. The integration overcomes criticalities of the two models. The approach has been validated in a real case study concerning the glass windscreen production supply chain.

Maritime security is facing many challenges due to war conflicts, geopolitics, sanctions, and pandemics. The supply chain for maritime containers has faced considerable obstacles as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Numerous factors, such as port closures, travel restrictions, and a decreased workforce, have impacted the supply chain. The risk of cargo theft, piracy, and other security events has increased as a result of these difficulties. Therefore, it is essential to look at the risk variables that may affect the security of the marine container supply chain during the pandemic. This research paper highlights those risks through the following three indexes: the likelihood index (LI), severity index (SI), and average risk index (ARI) by analyzing 64 risk factors that were prepared and designed by incorporating the Delphi expert survey technique to prepare a systematic questionnaire. The article addresses worries over the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on international supply networks. The causes of the most recent global shipping industry disruptions and their impact on supply chains have been thoroughly examined. In order to reduce the number of disruptions in global supply chains and lower the direct and indirect costs for consumers, the authors have also mentioned the necessary actions that must be implemented. The results concluded after the analysis pointed to “management activities,” such as human resources or the working environment as having the highest possibility of going wrong, whereas “operation activities” were judged to likely be the fatal ones if the security of maritime containers was ever compromised. The main objective of the study is to evaluate how the COVID-19 epidemic may affect international shipping, particularly container shipping, which is currently the most important link in the world’s multimodal land–sea supply chains.
