Mathematics is mostly related to human life, thus, humans are required to have the mathematical understanding ability in solving life problems since in the elementary school age. Therefore, mathematics learning at school should have relevance value to construct mathematical concept that can be used in real life. Innovative mathematics learning through Contextual Learning (CTL) model based on Sundanese Culture Ethnomathematics as a local wisdom at which humans use mathematics in their real life, was chosen as a deep solution to increase the mathematical understanding ability, because students live in their culture and society. This study employsan experimental method by conducting pretest and postest control group design. The purpose of this study is to determine the increasing of students’ mathematical understanding ability on experiment class (using CTL model based on Sundanese Ethnomathematics) and control class (using conventional learning model). The result of this study produced conclusion that CTL based on Sundanese ethnomahtematics and conventional model can increasethe mathematical understanding ability significantly. However, the application of CTL model based on Sundanese Ethnomathematics was significantly better than conventional model (62.29%) to increase students’ mathematical understanding ability on learning the basic concepts of rectangular geometry for 4th grade students of elementary school.

The escalating use of English as a primary mode of communication in Bandung City is impacting the younger generation's interest in learning and using the Sundanese language. This quantitative study investigates the correlation between English and Sundanese language usage among 100 respondents aged 12-21, employing correlation and simple linear regression tests. Results indicate a negative influence of English on Sundanese usage, with higher English usage correlating with lower Sundanese use (correlation coefficient: -0.622, English's effect on Sundanese: 59.5%). The decline in Sundanese usage is attributed to environmental factors, education, and peer interactions. Recommendations include promoting Sundanese among Generation Z to preserve the language.

This research focuses on a comprehensive comparison of phonemes between Sundanese and Indonesian languages. The analysis employs content analysis to delineate the intricate differences between the two languages. Sundanese, as revealed in the study, comprises seven vowel phonemes, whereas Indonesian has five primary vowels. Vowel classification in both languages involves lip position, tongue's front-back movement, and tongue height during pronunciation. Sundanese has 18 consonant phonemes, while Indonesian possesses 21 consonant phonemes. Interestingly, despite Sundanese having 29 vowels, some are unable to occur consecutively with other vowels. Conversely, in Indonesian, words with diphthongs, i.e., a sequence of two vowels in one syllable, are considered separate cases. Another significant difference is the presence of an additional phoneme in Sundanese, namely /é/, which is absent in Indonesian. The existence of this phoneme adds complexity to Sundanese phonological patterns. Additionally, noticeable differences in consonant phonemes exist, with Sundanese having only 18, while Indonesian has 21, creating intriguing phonetic diversity between the two languages.

The difficulty of comprehending a mathematical concept is one of the challenges students experience when learning mathematics. The primary contributor is learning methods that do not connect mathematics with real-world situations and cultural backgrounds. Culture can serve as a bridge between students' backgrounds and their mathematical learning. Sundanese Ethnomathematics is the study of the relationship between mathematics and Sundanese culture. The objective of Sundanese Ethnomathematics Learning is to enhance students' mathematical comprehension. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a Non-equivalent control group design. The object of research comprised two classes, including the experimental class with Sundanese Ethnomathematics Learning and the control class with instructors or without Sundanese Ethnomathematics Learning. The t-test results demonstrated that a significance value of 0.001 was less than 0.05. thus, H0 was rejected implying that there was a difference. The gain test revealed that the experimental class had moderate and high gains and that the student’s views towards Sundanese Ethnomathematics Learning exhibited a positive trend. This indicates that Sundanese Ethnomathematics Learning effective students' mathematical comprehension.

Elementary pupils who used to be multilingual speakers began to change into monolingual. Giving Indonesian language as a language of unity to the elementary students does not mean hoping regional languages to become extinct, especially with the Sundanese language which is the top five in the number of speakers in Indonesia. Therefore, the researchers conducted research in several schools in Bogor with the aim of 1) knowing the level of institutional and government support in maintaining the use of Sundanese language in Bogor; 2) knowing the implementation of Sundanese language learning in Bogor; 3) knowing the process of multilingual learning. A quantitative method was used by distributing questionnaires to several primary schools in Bogor with a total of 47 teachers and doing observations of elementary students. Findings indicate that negative attitudes toward the Sundanese language are shown by elementary students with occasional use of Sundanese language in interacting with their friends. Institutions and governments are less supportive by not requiring each elementary to have a special Sundanese-speaking day school within a week and not allowing teachers to improve their abilities. The ability of Sundanese language teachers in elementary schools in Bogor is still low in scientific writing using Sundanese language. Keywords: Sundanese language, language maintenance, multilingual learningPOTRET PELESTARIAN BAHASA SUNDA DALAM PENBELAJARAN MULTI-BAHASA DI BOGORAbstrak Siswa sekolah dasar yang dulunya bermulti-bahasa sudah mulai berbahasa tunggal. Swearing is used in every human language activity. Swearing can be found in films as a form of literary work that provides entertainment and describes the phenomenon of social reality. The Yowis Ben 2 film is a youth comedy genre film that contains swear words using local languages, Javanese and Sundanese. This research focuses on a sociopragmatic study of Javanese and Sundanese swearing in the film Yowis Ben 2 to look at the references, functions, and implicatures of swearing speech acts in both languages. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The primary data is in the form of swearing in Javanese and Sundanese in the form of words, phrases, sentences, and scenes for each character in the film, and the secondary data is in the form of previous studies related to swearing in Javanese and Sundanese. Data collection techniques are carried out by documenting, listening, recording, and analyzing content. Data analysis techniques are carried out by reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions and by using pragmatic equivalent studies in order to reveal swearing implicatures in two languages. The results of the research show that not all swearing in Javanese and Sundanese languages found in the film "Yowis Ben 2" encompasses the entire classification of swearing. The Sundanese language presents a more diverse variety of profanity vocabulary compared to Javanese. Implicatures from the use of profanity in both languages include expressions of feelings such as annoyance, anger, disappointment, surprise, admiration, and familiarity. This research has significant implications for understanding how profanity is used within specific cultural and social contexts, such as in teen comedy films. Furthermore, further research can explore how film translators work to translate profanity vocabulary from regional languages into Indonesian or foreign languages, providing further insights into the cultural adaptation process in the film industry.

This paper aims to describe the Jaipongan drumming strokes in Lagu Gedé. Lagu Gedé is a type of song in Sundanese Karawitan that has a large embat (rhythm). This song includes a dish of drums vocals accompanied by gamelan pelog-salendro with characteristics that have tone, barrel, surupan, embat, gending, slow tempo, embat opat wilet, and bound by the standard rules. Observations were made by appreciating Jaipongan’s performances in Bandung and Karawang. Besides, the author conducts interviews with several primary informants who are directly involved in the arrangement of Jaipongan. Gedé’s point here is to look at it with a smooth, soft, slow serving. The Kiliningan genre has a specific punch motif name for Gede’s song. The name of this variation is called tepak melem. Melem has a delicious or gentle meaning. Tepak melem to accompany Sekar Gending songs in Kiliningan genre. The phenomenon that happens that Lagu Gede is served in Kiliningan dish and used to attend Jaipongan dance. When Jaipongan’s work uses Gedé’s song, it generates innovations. Gedé’s song is no longer presented with a glued drum but with a tepak diteunggeul. Diteunggeul contains the meaning of being hit hard, powerful, dynamic, and fast. This research concluded that jaipongan drumming strokes in Lagu Gedé is realized that drummers and dancers must explore many spaces because it has the freedom to work. After all, they present it in an embat opat wilet (big rhythm). This affects the widening of the number of beats, the position of kenongan, pancer, and gongan. Artists have the freedom to do creativity in working on Gede’s songs. The space of artists in their work can ultimately foster new creativity that impacts the growth and development of Sundanese karawitan.

Mathematical literacy and ethnomathematics are the two main approaches to understanding mathematics in everyday life. Research on the two aspects should be conducted in an integrated manner. It is expected to be a reference for the development of urban mathematics education based on the social requirements of mathematics and individuals' mathematical competence in a cultural group. The primary goal of this research is to describe the Sundanese people's mathematical literacy through an ethnomathematical perspective. The research is focused on living equipment systems and technology, which is one of the elements of the seven universal culture elements. The study employed phenomenographic and ethnomethodological approaches with a realist ethnographic design. Participant observations and interviews were chosen as data collection techniques, while content analysis, triangulation, and identification of patterns were chosen as data analysis techniques. Ethnomathematics in living equipment systems and technology consists of counting, measuring, explaining, discovering, designing, and explaining activities. The results show that the ethnomathematics of the Sundanese community are relevant to the aspects of mathematical literacy consisting of content, context, and mathematical processes. The study's results emphasize that mathematical literacy and ethnomathematics cannot be separated from daily life.

Abstract. Erawan TS, Alillah AN, Iskandar J. 2018. Ethnobotany of ritual plants in Karangwangi Village, Cianjur District, West Java, Indonesia. Asian J Ethnobiol 1: 53-60. According to Sundanese tradition, each Sundanese village community practice some distinctive traditional rituals in which diverse plants grown in different local ecosystems are used. The objectives of this study were to document the traditional rituals performed by the people of Karangwangi Village, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia and various plants used in these traditional rituals, by employing qualitative and quantitative ethnobotanical approaches. To collect primary data, techniques namely observations and deep interviews were applied. The results of the study showed that 6 kinds of traditional rituals have been practiced by the village people of Karangwangi. These traditional rituals are locally named as srokalan (the traditional ritual of naming the baby), nikahan (the traditional ritual of wedding), nujuh bulanan (the traditional ritual associated with seventh month of pregnancy), nyepitan (the traditional ritual of circumcision), upacara pare (the traditional ritual of planting rice) and upacara nelayan (traditional ritual of fishermen before going to sea). As many as 26 species representing 17 families of plants are used in these rituals. The plants used in traditional rituals were harvested mainly from the homegarden systems and most of these species also commonly used as spices. As the plants used in the traditional rituals have been predominantly cultivated in the homegardens, these plants are indirectly conserved by the village people.

For an emerging economy such as Indonesia, income taxes significantly contribute to her revenue generation profile. The efficacy of tax education during taxpayers' educational trajectory stands as a pivotal factor in achieving successful tax revenue collection. The primary objective of this study is to examine the impact of tax education on tax compliance among students from diverse ethnic backgrounds. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Open-ended questionnaires were developed, tested, and distributed to students. A total of 372 valid responses were returned and the data was analyzed using the Smart PLS tool. Findings from the analysis revealed a significant effect of tax education on tax compliance across all ethnic groups (Javanese, Sundanese, Batak, Minang, Malay, and Others) with the maximum and minimum effect recorded in the Sundanese (73.5%) and Batak (47.2%) respectively. This study contributes to bridging the research gap in tax education and tax compliance from a multi-ethnic approach in Indonesia. It is recommended that public tax awareness campaigns, targeted at both students and the public in Indonesia be sustained, as this drives an increase in tax compliance across all ethnicities in the medium to long term. This research makes a theoretical contribution by highlighting the significance of tax education as a determining factor. From a policy perspective, this study offers valuable insights to education policymakers, emphasizing the necessity for regular enhancements and adaptations in tax education practices.

This paper discusses the Hadith Study Method in Modern Islamic Boarding Schools is unique in conveying hadith material through the applied methods. The method problem is fascinating because each science has its way of discussing its scientific material, including hadith. This article aims to analyze the uniqueness of the method applied in providing hadith studies to its students. This paper uses a qualitative method with a field research approach. The primary data sources include observations and interviews, and supporting data sources include essential literature related to hadith study methods. The results of this research show that the resource person at this Islamic boarding school provides a study of hadith using the tahlili method, the explanation of which combines the bi al-ma'tsūr (verses explained with hadith) and Bi ar-Ra'yi (hadith explained using Sundanese language and culture) methods). The book chosen is the secondary book Riyādh al-shālihīn. The process begins with tawasul to the Prophet Muhammad, his family, and friends. Then, the teacher translates the word mufradat, explains the meaning of the hadith, and analyzes it in the current context. The method taken by the kiai is, of course, based on the knowledge of the source or looking at the target object (the students). In providing explanations, the resource person added Sundanese advice and humor. This method is intended to make it easier for students to remember the basis of the content of the hadith.

AbstractThe Redwater Shale Member (Oxfordian) of the Sundance Formation was deposited in the foreland basin of the Cordillera during the last and largest marine transgression of the Jurassic in North America. One ichthyosaur (Ophthalmosaurus natans), two cryptocleidoid plesiosaurs (Tatenectes laramiensis, Pantosaurus striatus) and one pliosauromorph (Megalneusaurus rex) are known from the Redwater Shale Member. Ichthyosaurs are much more abundant than plesiosaurs, making up almost 60% of the fauna. No actinopterygian fish have been found, although four species have been identified from the lower Sundance Formation. At least one hybodont shark and one neoselachian are known from rare isolated teeth. The main food source for the marine reptiles was belemnoids, as indicated by preserved gut contents for all four species. In comparison, the better known and slightly older Peterborough Member of the Oxford Clay Formation of England, has a much higher taxonomic and ecological diversity, especially in the plesiosaurs, marine crocodiles, and fish. The lower diversity in the Redwater Shale Member probably reflects a much lower primary productivity in the Sundance Sea, as well as restricted migration from the open ocean to the north.

This study focuses on the language characteristics of multilingual female teenagers in Bandung, a city with a diverse ethnic population. The research is based on a small sample of 16-18 year old students from a private high school and uses a descriptive-analytic method to analyze recorded conversations as primary data and interviews as secondary data. The study categorizes and analyzes the language variations and characteristics of the teens' speech, using theories from Lakoff (2017) and Holmes (2022). The results suggest that some, but not all, of the language features proposed by Lakoff are present in the teens' speech. Additionally, the study identifies six language functions used, including lexical hedges, tagging questions, empty adjectives, reinforcers, emphasis stress, and rising intonation. Due to the participants' multilingualism, the conversations often involve a mix of Indonesian, local (Sundanese), and English codes.

Looking at the cultural area landscape, Tatar Sunda certainly inherited different rich culture then other regions. It not only inherited tangible cultural wealth but also intangible. However, in the midst of an increasingly advanced civilization, now the Sundanese cultural heritage has changed its existence. Functionally many spiritual traditional cultural products have been replaced by commercial-modern products. This phenomenon can be studied from the social changes that occured in the Kampung Naga in Tasikmalaya regencies, which on the one hand still maintains its traditional values, on the other hand this traditional village has undergone many changes. This study intends to determine the existence of Sundanese cultural products, as well as products of a national, Indonesian culture in general from the influence of the development of modernism. In addition, by examining the phenomenon of community life in the traditional village of Kampung Naga, it is hoped that the indicators that cause these changes will be known. All objects of this study will be investigated using the qualitative-interpretive methods. This study uses cultural theory, Social Change theory, and semiotic theory as the main reference literature. The data sources used are main (primary) data and secondary data. The main data was obtained directly through interviews with the people of Kampung Naga. Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained from written sources such as: books from previous research, scientific journals, personal documents, photos, statistics, audio and video recordings. Therefore, starting from these initial observations, at least the root cause of social change in Kampung Naga can be described, and its cannot be separated from both internal and external factors behind it, for example: 1) The influence of global modernization, 2) The influence of modernization brought by the people of Kampung Naga who live outside the Traditional Village, 3) The adaptive attitude of the Kampung Naga people living in the Traditional Village. 4) Economic demands and community welfare. These factors are the main source of modernism in Kampung Naga. Keyword: Cultural change, Kampung Naga, Modernism, Traditional Village, Sunda.

There are two mothods to embed the ideology to the community of pesantren mil1ieu through Tafsi>r Jala>lain: First, orally, bandongan by reading or teaching it to the students. Second, literally, by translating the Tafsi>r into the local language (Indonesian, Javanese, Maduranese and Sundanese). In turn, Aswaja ideology was rooted in the pesantren and ascertained by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) organization founded in 1926.
