Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis proposes the use of instrumental measures of the texture of food vegetables to improve their cooking processes. The first part points out that the texture is linked to human perception. The sensory analysis is so the direct way of its assessment. Main instrumental tests are then presented and experimental protocols are described. Each of the following three chapters deals with an application of the instrumental measure of the texture for a better knowledge of the products quality. The first objective consists in identifying the kinetics of textural modification of vegetables within sterilization temperatures. Using models of the literature, our results al verifying that a simple first order kinetic is not enough to characterize the evolution of texture of canots or French beans. It is then interesting to assimilate the final phase of texture cooking to a plateau. The fractional conversion model used leads to a satisfactory description. The identified parameters of the model are useful to optimise heating processes. Instrumental measures are applied as a time-temperature integrator in a pressure cooker. At constant textural cooking, the effects of the process parameters are evaluated on the keeping back of vitamin. The characterization of the texture allowed improving this way of preparation of vegetables by reducing significant nutritional losses. The last chapter proposes a method to estimate the presence of strings in French beans. The comparison of two instrumental measures on the same piece of vegetable leads to predict a stringy character of the beans

Pełny tekst źródłaIn the era of personalized medicine, genomics and targeted therapies, the availability of quantitative tools assisting the interpretation of medical images is essential. In Positron Emission Tomography (PET), beyond measurements of uptake intensity, it is possible to derive quantitative index characterizing the metabolic volume or the tumoral heterogeneity. The objective of this work was to investigate the value of new quantitative indices to enhance PET imaging, allowing for a more comprehensive analysis of the whole tumor. The first part of the work deals with methodological issues associated with the measurement of tumor heterogeneity using textural index. In particular, we identified the most robust and informative textural index for clinical applications. Two sets of patients have then been used to explore the contribution of metabolic volume and texture analysis in PET. In lung cancer patients, our results suggest that the measurement of tumor heterogeneity gives some information regarding the histological features of the tumor. A second set of results shows that metabolic volume is more relevant than conventional indices for evaluating the impact of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced stages. A correlation between quantitative changes during treatment and post-treatment histology results was used to demonstrate the relevance of these indices. In breast cancer patients, our results suggest that tumors with aggressive immunohistological patterns, particularly triple-negative phenotype, have a more heterogeneous texture than other types. In summary, our results suggest that a more comprehensive quantitative characterization of the metabolic activity distribution in tumor using PET imaging improves the pre-therapeutic and prognostic evaluation of cancer

Pełny tekst źródłaConventional prostate MRI, enhanced by diffusion and perfusion sequences, and then named multiparametric, showed high performances for detection of prostate cancer using visual scoring. Indications in stratification, prognosis, treatment planning and follow up are currently under investigations.First part of this work attached itself to describe, elaborate and use a non-rigid image fusion method in 3D between gold standard histology of radical prostatectomy and MRI. Investigations captured the significant differences in shape and volume of in vivo and ex vivo prostate using MRI. The developed multimodality fusion method was applied to a cohort of patients who underwent MRI prior surgery. Results showed a stratified underestimation of cancer volume by MRI. Clinical output resides in detection, stratification and surgical planning. The second part proposed some texture analysis of sequences and quantitative maps. As a multiparametric approach, the Entropy Score is applied in a pilot cohort at time of biopsy and showed some potential usefulness to select MRI targets without compromising detection of significant cancer. By positively correlating with the Gleason Score and the maximal core length of cancer, Entropy Score participates of stratification of cancer. The third part explored application of image registration in the longitudinal follow up of an emergent therapy, said focal (FT). As a conservative approach, FT induces very local deformation of the gland which appears to be appropriately modelled by non-rigid registration, then opening possibilities to guide further control biopsy and radiologic assessment

Pełny tekst źródłaThe characterization of geometric, water and physical surface soil parameters for semi-arid regions is a key requirement for sustainable agricultural management and natural resources conservation. In this context, the current study aims to estimate the spatio-temporal variability of soil properties (soil moisture, roughness and texture) using multi-temporal X-band radar images acquired at high spatial resolution over bare agricultural site in Tunisia. In the first section of this work, a new roughness parameter was proposed; it was the Zg parameter which combines the three most commonly used soil parameters: root mean surface height "s", correlation length "l", and correlation function shape, into just one parameter. A strong correlation was observed between this new parameter and the radar backscattering simulations. The parameter Zg was validated using large database acquired at several agricultural sites in France. Secondly, the sensitivity of X-band TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed sensors to soil moisture and different roughness parameters (s, Zs=s2/l and Zg parameters) was analyzed. The radar measurements acquired at different configurations (HH and VV polarizations, incidence angles of 26° and 36°) were found to be highly sensitive to the various soil parameters of interest. After that, the performance of different physical and semi-empirical backscattering models (IEM, Baghdadi-calibrated IEM and Dubois models) is compared with SAR measurements. Considerable improvements in the IEM model performance were observed using the Baghdadi-calibrated version of this model. Thirdly, an empirical change detection approach was developed using TerraSAR-X data and ground auxiliary thetaprobe network measurements for the retrieval of surface soil moisture at a high spatial resolution. The accuracy of the soil moisture retrieval algorithm was determined, and validated successfully over numerous test fields. Maps of soil clay percentages at the studied site were derived from the mean of the seven soil moisture radar outputs (a root mean square error equal to 108 g/kg). To retrieve surface soil roughness, empirical expressions were established between backscattering TerraSAR-X coefficients data and the roughness parameters (s and Zg). By inversing radar signals, resulting surface roughness maps have revealed that is possible to use spatial roughness variability observations at plot scale to identify soil surface changes between multi-temporal images. Finally, a Bare Soil HYdrological balance Model "MHYSAN" was developed to estimate surface evaporation fluxes and soil moisture time series over our study site. The present section of this work highlighted the feasibility of calibrating our proposed MHYSAN model through the use of multi-temporal TerraSAR-X moisture products

Pełny tekst źródłaIn the domain of vineyard precision spraying research, one of the most importantobjectives is to minimize the volume of phytosanitary products ejected bya sprayer in order to be more environmentally respectful with more effectivevine leaf treatments. Unfortunaltely, even if lot of works have been carriedout at a parcel scale, mainly on losses caused by drift, less works have beencarried out at the leaf scale in order to understand which parameters influencethe spray quality. Since few years, recent improvements in image processing, sensitivity of imaging systems and cost reduction have increased the interestof high-speed imaging techniques. Analyzing the behavior of droplets afterimpact with the leaf thanks to high speed imaging technology is a relevantsolution. By this way, we propose a droplets behavior analyzing process invineyard spraying context based on high-speed acquision system combinedwith image processing techniques. This process allows us to extract dropletsparameters. Therefore, a statistical study is processed in order to determinethe effects of droplets parameters on leaf impact or to predict behavior of asingle droplet. Since this behavior is strongly related to leaf surface, we alsopropose to validate a natural leaf roughness characterization method basedon texture analysis

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis deals with textured objects recognition by monocular vision as well as their localization and tracking in the camera coordinates system. We have developed a mixed approach, based on the matching of visual primitives between the image to analyse and the images of a training base, but which uses the knowledge of the 3D object model to validate the result of the recognition process and to locate the object. In a context of textured objects the most relevant features seems to be keypoints. These points are located in image zones having a high information content. We propose a local description of such features directly based on the luminance signal. It is insensitive to image rotations ans translations and we also present a multi-scale implementation of these description in order to recognize objects in spite of important scale changes. Before the recognition, a training stage is carried out. It consists in the genration of synthetic images of the object then in the creation of a data base gathering the extracted primitives and their characterization vector. After that the data are organize in order to scan the base as fast as possible. The use of synthetics images allows them to compute the 3D coordinates of the keypoints extracted at the training stage. So, after the matching done, we obtain a set of 2D/3D pairs between the image and the object model. Thus, we compute the object position with a robust method which introduce a strong geometrical constraint on the 2D/3D pairs. In the case of a images sequence, once the object position known in the first image, the process can be considerably accelerated : the features extraction is limited to a part of the image and the data base scanning is initialized by the preceding 3D position of the object

Pełny tekst źródłaRegistration is a very important task in Augmented Reality (AR). It provides the spatial alignment between the real environment and virtual objects. Unlike tracking (which relies on previous frame information), wide baseline localization finds the correct solution from a wide search space, so as to overcome the initialization or tracking failure problems. Nowadays, various wide baseline localization methods have been applied successfully. But for objects with no or little texture, there is still no promising method. One possible solution is to rely on the geometric information, which sometimes does not vary as much as texture or color. This dissertation focuses on new wide baseline localization methods entirely based on geometric information, and more specifically on points. I propose two novel point pattern matching algorithms, RRDM and LGC. Especially, LGC registers 2D or 3D point patterns under any known transformation type and supports multipattern recognitions. It has a linear behavior with respect to the number of points, which allows for real-time tracking. It is applied to multi targets tracking and augmentation, as well as to 3D model registration. A practical method for projector-camera system calibration based on LGC is also proposed. It can be useful for large scale Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR). Besides, I also developed a method to estimate the rotation axis of surface of revolution quickly and precisely on 3D data. It is integrated in a novel framework to reconstruct the surface of revolution on dense SLAM in real-time

Pełny tekst źródłaArrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies (ACM) constitute a spectrum of genetically-determined cardiac diseases of which the main consequence are ventricular arrhythmias potentially leading to sudden cardiac death. Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies have a diverse range of clinical-imaging phenotypes, and a continuously evolving landscape including concealed structural changes requiring multiparametric assessment. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is central in their evaluation, given the growing identification of biventricular and left-ventricular(LV)-predominant ACM variants. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), while not as established, offers potential utility as either an adjunct or alternative tool. In this thesis, we took advantage on our large ACM cohort to pursue three aims able to extend the boundaries of cardiac imaging for ACM diagnosis and functional characterization. First, we developed and evaluated a novel feature-tracking CMR parameter that integrates both longitudinal and radial right ventricular (RV) dynamics, which was effective in distinguishing ACM patients, particularly those lacking major structural criteria, from healthy subjects, implying that a two-dimensional representation of RV dynamics is crucial to capture the complex physiology of ACM. Second, we described the CMR features of Desmoplakin (DSP)-related ACM, a specific entity associated with particularly worse outcomes amidst the wide diversity of ACMs, and for the first time compared them to those found in ACM with LV involvement. We found that the presence of diffuse late gadolinium enhancement extending beyond the inferolateral LV combined with an end-systolic LV-to-RV volume ratio ≥0.8 may be considered as indicative of a high pre-genetical test results likelihood for DSP-ACM. Third, through a transversal multimodality study, we showed there was overall a low spatial concordance between the arrhythmogenic substrate and morpho-functional abnormalities or RV fat, at a segmental level. This finding paves the way for an integration of EP data into ACM diagnostic criteria and suggest that routine practice cardiac imaging cannot reliably exclude the presence of an EP substrate in a given RV location. Determinant improvements are currently being undertaken to increase the impact and generalizability of the three sets of results

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this thesis we address three computer vision problems: (1) the detection and recognition of flat text objects in images of real scenes; (2) the tracking of such text objects in a digital video; and (3) the tracking an arbitrary three-dimensional rigid object with known markings in a digital video. For each problem we developed innovative algorithms, which are at least as accurate and robust as other state-of-the-art algorithms. Specifically, for text recognition we developed (and extensively evaluated) a new HOG-based descriptor specialized for Roman script, which we call T-HOG, and showed its value as a post-filter for an existing text detector (SnooperText). We also improved the SnooperText algorithm by using the multi-scale technique to handle widely different letter sizes while limiting the sensitivity of the algorithm to various artifacts. For text tracking, we describe four basic ways of combining a text detector and a text tracker, and we developed a specific tracker based on a particle-filter which exploits the T-HOG recognizer. For rigid object tracking we developed a new accurate and robust algorithm (AFFTrack) that combines the KLT feature tracker with an improved camera calibration procedure. We extensively tested our algorithms on several benchmarks well-known in the literature. We also created benchmarks (publicly available) for the evaluation of text detection and tracking and rigid object tracking algorithms

Since Drach in 1937, the German utterance has often been divided into fields. This case will be composed of a corpus (tome 2) made up of examples from the press as well as from literary works and its purpose is to bring out textual functions. We will first demonstrate that a syntactic difference may lead to a semantic one. We will then present a certain number of phrases which are part of the enunciative framework. Finally, we will tackle what is commonly called the double occupation of the prefield. All the analyses will be performed through a textual analysis

Pełny tekst źródłaIn her creative research, Matte examines poetry and vocality using three different approaches, combining each with experimentation and theoretical refinement. The first approach was pragmatic, leading her to develop a poetry performance in which 12 international poets participated (Mois de la poésie, 2012). Titled VI_ DE_ DI_EU, the performance was based on a sound collage created by the researcher. It featured the voices of Francophone poets, over top of which Matte performed. The technological tools developed for this performance permitted the manipulation and spatialization of the soundtrack and of the written text that was projected onto different surfaces. She then studied the performative aspect of poetry and, more particularly, its development starting in the second half of the 20th century. From a historical viewpoint, this research examines action poetry, including concrete poetry and sound poetry. It then analyzes how these have integrated into Québec City’s art scene, becoming part of what is now an international performance art network. Finally, the research borrows from the theory of the Gutenberg Parenthesis, following the perspective of McLuhan (1968), who suggested that the age when writing dominated and consequently, orality was diminished (Paul Zumthor, La Lettre et la voix, 1987) has declined due to the influence of new means of communication developed through technology. Delving into the outer edges of the parenthesis, the researcher studied the earliest Western lyric poetry from the Middle Ages, thereby closing the so-called parenthesis in a decreasing chronology. Vocality, avant-garde art and media, digital poetry and performance, differance and deconstruction, mise en abîme and distancing effect, strangeness and impossibility, the death of God and courtly love; through her broad-reaching and multifaceted research, Matte examines subjects that may appear divergent at first, but that achieve a certain degree of coherence when placed on the outer edges of the Gutenberg Parenthesis and when involved in the staging of VI_DE_DI_EU. The thesis brings together a vast array of thinkers and poets. Among others, Nietzsche, Derrida, Camille Dumoulié, Claude Lévesque, McLuhan and Paul Zumthor encounter Guillaume IX, Antonin Artaud, Achille Chavée, Alain Dantinne, Jean Désy, Serge Pey, Alix Renaud, Vincent Tholomé, Carl Bessette, CéZure, Edmé Étienne, Pilote the hot and Pierre Lavallée. While seeking the operating values that lie at the origin of research and creation — or of thinking and poetry — Matte remains thirsty for knowledge, yet critical of the different perspectives. Drawing from the many avenues of her investigation, she creates a historical and philosophical overview that is both original and imbued with poetry.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study on the Dharmadharmatāvibhāga (DhDhV) looks at the practical aspect of this text. It provides a French translation of the versified version, of the Sanskrit fragments and of Mipham's commentary. It then provides an analysis of the stanzas giving historical and philosophical background according to the work of Bugault, Mathes, Brunnhölzl, etc. More precisely, these translations and analysis look at the Buddhist logical conclusion called 'emptiness' as a key to the adaptability of the Buddhist tradition through time and cultures. How can such a conclusion provide meaning, particularly at this critical time in which our societies are going through profound changes? Even though the idea of emptiness may seem closer to abort the search for meaning, even though the use of rational mind seems at odds with a conclusion already established, that of emptiness, this research shows that the DhDhV has something important to say about these questions.

Pełny tekst źródłaThe first section of this thesis analyses the second person narrative in Édouard Levé's story, Suicide. Built upon studies in narratology on the problems of second person narrative, the analysis shows the voice in Suicide is part of an oscillation, which is also employed in the tense of the narrative, resulting in a neutral text in the sense defined by both Roland Barthes and Maurice Blanchot. The second section of the thesis presents a creative text; more specifically four short stories narrated by the same narrator-protagonist-narratee and linked by the same central theme of identity and representation. Through confession or inner trial, a young man in his thirties, Jérôme Borromée, revisits important friendships of his life, which left him with a feeling of guilt. This guilt arises primarily from doubts he has been having about his sexual orientation and from his aspiration to attain a prestigious socioprofessional identity. What links the two sections of this thesis is the use of the pronoun "you". Indeed, to showcase the protagonist's inner trial, Jérôme Borromée, like Suicide, is narrated in the second person singular.

Pełny tekst źródłaThe main purpose of this work is to give access to the discourses, fragments and testimonials of Alcidamas of Elea (4th century BC), a rhetor born in Asia Minor, Gorgias' disciple and Isocrates’ great rival. This author is a relatively unknown figure of the history of philosophy. This work includes a first part introductive and methodological where are treated the problems posed by the very nature of the fragmentary corpus and of the quotation in Ancient Greece, the state of investigation and the motives why it is necessary to retranslate Alcidamas’ works. The second part is the translation itself: the discourses, fragments and testimonials are edited with an updated critical apparatus, an introduction, a translation and numerous complementary notes. A synthetic lexical study of the psychological vocabulary makes up the third part and aims to prove the existence in Alcidamas’ works of a philosophically consistent psychological vocabulary. This study will allow us to show the reason why a psychological vocabulary puts the emphasis on the coherence and innovative view of Alcidamas

Pełny tekst źródłaThe aim of this thesis is the study of the different deictic systems that govern french and portuguese languages. These systems are analysed from a comparative point of view, and the approach is based on the principles of contrastive linguistics, as they were exposed by h. Adamczewski and c. Delmas in their english grammar. The analysis is chiefly based on a written corpus composed of 3 of camus'works : 2 novels ( "the pest" , "the fall" ) and a drama ( "caligula" ). The thesis begins with a historical introduction to the notion of deixis. The first part is a contrastive study of basic deictics - i. E. Spatial, temporal, personal ones - in french and portuguese. The second part is an approach of secondary deictics which work implicitely, such as verbal tenses and prepositions deprived of their nominal head. The aim of the third part is to valid the results of the preceeding parts by testing them on the tokens of an oral corpus, and to point out the chief translation difficulties raised by the discrepancies that exist between the two deictic systems

Pełny tekst źródłaSix short stories, which can be grouped into one long story, provide different styles for the narrator: a third-person narrative, an ‘’I’’ narrative, a ‘’we’’ narrative, and a ‘’you’’ narrative. This particular text is a reflection about the act of creating as a progressive construction as well as a reflection on the effects of narration. As a concrete proof, the last part is identical to the first one, but having the whole story in mind gives the same text a different meaning. The fantastic mood emerges with the reader’s hesitation of how to interpret the facts that are presented to him. Globally, this text plays with the instances that provide a literary text and the ones that receive it. The narrative in a fantastic text is very important, and has to create tension in the reader, who will not be able to explain certain aspects of the story. Often, the plot is told in the first person, hence merging the narrator with a character, thus creating a double personality. We try to shine the light on the role of the narrator in a fantastic text by analyzing how the plot unravels and which narrative methods are used in three short stories: La Vénus d’Ille (Mérimée), Apparition (Maupassant), and Ligeia (Poe).

Pełny tekst źródłaLa Ceinture des Parques engages in a deadly dialogue with sea level rise. Focusing on the invisible and pragmatic hardships of that natural phenomenon, this post-apocalyptic fiction dives into the daily psychological suffering haunting those who live behind the dikes and wait in helplessness. Two survivors of the global submergence embody the idea that, when facing the oceanic invader, the worst is not in the storms but in what lies between them. The story then aims to turn the reader into a watcher. It thus takes the page as a wall and the text as its flaw: every letter is a gash in the dam, a crack into which a threatening drop might seep. Through these rifts, the sea reshapes the language, erasing any rigidity in the words, imposing the rhythm of its waves that absorb the usual limits of writing to model them on the constant instability that defines coastline and tides. The more the text is developed, the more it condemns itself to be dissolved, letting the water come into the text to achieve a complete blend when the endings of the narrator, of its language and of the environment mix in a common dilution. Neuf Gouttes is an essay exploring the hidden textual network spread by a narrator’s repetition and rumination. An enigmatic novel, La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes accumulates many frequent phrases throughout 200 pages. These similar words are trivial at first glance, but through them Gaétan Soucy’s text offers an alternate textual dynamic that differs according to the reader’s pragmatic cooperation level. The textual rumination stands out as the main force of the story, used by the narrator to adjust her writing speed in order to reach a safe balance between two converging endings: a material one and a psychological one. Between these two threats that get closer at each sentence, Alice Soissons must solve her family’s mystery before the writing becomes impossible, but also avoid rushing and crashing her testimony in an emotional explosion. The main goal of this essay is to analyse this paradox in which the plot uses reverses as the best way to make progress until its solving.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis M.A. Thesis combining research and creative writing is divided in two parts: a poetic narrative and an essay. Ma mère est une porte is structured in fragments and contains the mise en abyme of ruins in order to demonstrate that they closely relate to the ideas of absence, genetic footprint, memory and death. Ruins suggest fragments, thus the narrative’s esthetical form. The second part, Approche génétique : un monument à la mémoire des disparus emportés par le temps de l’écriture, is an essay reflecting on the metaphorical link between manuscript, ruins, archives and memory. Divided in three sections, it posits that new technology will cause modern manuscripts to disappear and the methodology behind genesis of text’s to evolve. Moreover, this will change how creative writing’s memory is preserved, hence affecting our cultural heritage.
