SUMMARY The Western Alps shows a complex crustal organization due to the subduction of the European Plate beneath the Adriatic Plate and exhumation of the mantle wedge. The lithospheric structure of the Western Alps, that may hold significance for understanding orogenic processes and evolution, has been the subject of many geophysical studies, but the Moho profile remains unclear and this has led to controversies about the depth and extent of the European Plate beneath the Adriatic Plate. With the goal of retrieving detailed information on crustal constitution, we use autocorrelation of seismic ambient noise as a tool to map the body wave reflectivity structure at the subduction zone under the southwestern Alps. We use data recorded by the China–Italy–France Alps (CIFALPS) seismic transect, that includes 45 stations located approximately 5–10 km apart along a profile crossing the Alpine continental subduction in the Western Alps. We analyse the data set in four different frequency bands between 0.09 and 2 Hz. We automatically pick the arrival time of the Moho reflection in the second derivative of the envelope of the autocorrelation stack using prior Moho information. The 0.5–1 Hz frequency band mostly gives the best result due to the clear changes in reflectivity along the waveforms of the autocorrelation stacks after the picked arrival times of the Moho reflections. We find spatial coherence between 18 and 23 km depth in the western portion of the profile, indicating relatively homogeneous crustal rocks, and highly reflective structure under the central mountain range, due to the existence of a highly faulted zone. The very thin crust and the underlying mantle wedge known as the Ivrea body show instead high transparency to seismic waves and absence of reflections. The subduction profile of the European Plate shows a steep trend as compared to previous studies. We discuss autocorrelation stacks and Moho depths obtained from the arrival times of the picked reflectivity change in comparison with previous studies to validate the different reflection structures. Stacked ambient noise autocorrelations reliably image varied crustal properties and reflectivity structures in the highly heterogeneous region of the southwestern Alps.

Orthotrichum dentatum T. Kiebacher & Lüth est signalé pour la première fois en France sur la base d’observations réalisées dans la haute vallée du Var (Alpes-Maritimes), à l’extrémité sud-ouest de la chaîne des Alpes, ce qui représente une extension d’aire de l’ordre de 300 km. Les spécimens observés sont conformes à la description initiale, effectuée sur des spécimens provenant des Alpes centrales. Le matériel est décrit et l’écologie locale précisée. La découverte de ce taxon démontre que le genre est encore insuffisamment connu en France. Le nombre d’espèces appartenant au genre Orthotrichum ss est désormais de 24 en France.

Bombus gerstaeckeri Morawitz, well-known as a bumblebee specialized on monkshood (Aconitum, Ranunculaceae), was observed in August 2006 in various localities of the Parc Naturel National des Ecrins (Hautes- Alpes, France). In one of the stations, the author noted regular visits of this bumblebee on Delphinium dubium (Rouy et Fouc.) Pawl. (Ranunculaceae), which has never been reported before.

The occurrence of the nautiloid genus Anglonautilus Spath in France was limited to the report of Anglonautilus dorsoplicatus (Wiedmann) from the Albian of Escragnolles (Alpes-Maritimes) and Anglonautilus sp. from the Aptian of Les Ferres (Alpes-Maritimes). Here we document the presence of the successive species Anglonautilus praeundulatus Lehmann et al., Anglonautilus undulatus (Sowerby) and Anglonautilus dorsoplicatus (Wiedmann) from the Cretaceous of France. The stratigraphic range of Anglonautilus Spath, hitherto unknown before Aptian times is extended downward to the Hauterivian. The Hauterivian species Nautilus begudensis Kilian & Reboul, sometimes assigned to the genus Anglonautilus Spath, is revised and re-assigned to the genus Cymatoceras Hyatt.

Note about some boreo-alpine March-flies, with special reference to Bibio brunnipes (Fabricius, 1794), new species for the fauna of France (Diptera, Bibionidae). The presence in France of the boreo-alpine species Bibio brunnipes (Fabricius, 1794) is ascertained for the first time from localities in department Hautes-Alpes, at altitudes of 2300-2480 m. A preceding record of the species from a low altitude locality is discarded, as it is based on a wrong identification. The presence of the species in Hungary, based on a wrong attribution of locality, is discarded. A new locality in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is given for the rarely observed B. lautaretensis Villeneuve, 1924. The situation in France of B. brunnipes, B. lautaretensis and a third boreo-alpine bibionid, Dilophus borealis Skartveit, 1993, is discussed.

Eleocharis obtusa (Willd.) Schult. in the Loire (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France) : a recent discovery ? The discovery of Eleocharis obtusa (Willd.) Schult. in the Loire is an interesting discovery. It is a species of North American origin recently observed in Belgium and France. Discreet and very close to Eleocharis ovata (Roth) Roem. & Schult, it could be undervalued in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and more generally in France. Field surveys confirm that the species is well established in the Forez Plain and in several localities. Apart from a recent part (2001), the consultation of different and ancient parts of herbaria did not confirm the species elsewhere. Finally, the determination criteria derived from the North American keys have been tested on the local populations and are, with some precautions, discriminating.

Tout d'abord, le 19 septembre, un épisode cévenol intense apporte 700 mm en 12 heures sur la région de Valleraugue. Puis, le 1er octobre, la tempête Alex traverse le nord-ouest de la France, où les rafales atteignent 186 km/h à Belle-Île-en-Mer en raison de la présence d'un sting jet. Le lendemain, un nouvel épisode fortement précipitant déverse localement 500 mm de pluie sur les Alpes-Maritimes. Ces trois phénomènes ont tous relevé d'une vigilance rouge. During fall 2020, France is concerned by three extreme weather events. First, on september 19th , an intense cévenol event brings 700 mm in 12 hours over Valleraugue area. Then, on October the 1 st , Alex windstorm crosses northwestern France where gusts reach 186 km/h over Belle-Île-en-Mer because of the occurrence of a sting jet. The day after, a new heavy precipitation event spills a 500 mm rainfall locally over Alpes-Maritimes. All those three events received a red warning.

The data were collected through observation, document study, literature review, and questionnaires. The result of the study implies that there are aspects that are implemented very appropriately, namely aspects of land use, aspects of energy efficiency, aspects of environmental management, and aspects of operational management. The aspects that are implemented accordingly are aspects of water conservation, aspects of the use of space materials, and aspects of Environmentally Friendly Hotel Operations. The Green practices has been applied appropriately to support the Green hotel concept implementation at Grand Hotel des Alpes, Chamonix, France. Grand Hotel des Alpes has implemented Green practices and Green hotel in line with the Green Hotel Association concept.

AbstractThe European pond turtle, Emys orbicularis, is a wide ranging species, distributed from Northwest Africa over a large part of Europe and Asia Minor to the Caspian and Aral Seas. For 106 pond turtles from France mtDNA sequence variation has been assessed, using a 1031 bp portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Three of nine haploclades currently known from the entire species' range were found in France. One clade (II) is represented with four very similar haplotypes, differing by one mutation, and the two other clades (V, VI) are represented with one haplotype each. A syntopic occurrence of clades II and V is reported for the first time for the Camargue. Besides, clade II occurs in the French regions Aquitaine, Centre-Val de Loire, and Rhône-Alpes. Outside of France, it is found mainly in the catchment areas of the Danube and Oder rivers and in the Balkans. Haploclade V, which is also known from the Apennine peninsula, Sardinia, and the northern Mediterranean coast of Spain, is restricted in France to Corsica and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. A single individual bearing a haplotype of an Iberian and North African clade (VI) was found in Aquitaine near Pau. This could indicate gene flow between the Iberian peninsula and West France, if the specimen is native. The distribution of the distinct haploclades in France probably reflects Holocene range expansions, especially of haploclade II turtles. In the postglacial, haploclade II terrapins arrived from the east and spread over the Rhône corridor to the Mediterranean coast. In the southern Rhône area they met and hybridized with haploclade V turtles. Further research is needed to clarify whether this hybridization is a locally restricted phenomenon.

La comparaison des spécimens alpiens avec des spécimens d’herbier collectés dans les Scandes ou en Écosse permet de mettre en évidence une certaine plasticité morphologique, probablement à mettre en relation avec le microhabitat très particulier de l’espèce. Seules des colonies constituées majoritairement d’axes flagelliformes ont été observées en France, ce qui est interprété comme une adaptation à la violence du courant. A la limite sud-ouest de son aire de répartition, Hygrobiella laxifolia semble strictement cantonnée à des berges de torrents pentus, biotopes permettant une imbibition permanente des colonies.

Résumé Les économies française et italienne ont traversé, au cours des dernières décennies, des turbulences à bien des égards comparables. Les politiques économiques menées de part et d'autre des Alpes ont cependant résulté de choix parfois divergents, aboutissant, dans les années 1980-1990 à des évolutions macroéconomiques très contrastées. Pour faire partie du premier cercle de la monnaie unique européenne, les deux pays ont dû opérer des ajustements macroéconomiques de grande ampleur, qui ont eu d'importantes conséquences sur l'augmentation du chômage et sur les facteurs de la compétitivité des producteurs français et italiens. Cet article propose un bilan parallèle des évolutions économiques et des grandes orientations de politique économique de deux des membres fondateurs du Marché commun et des itinéraires qui les ont conduits jusqu'à l'Union monétaire.

La brucellose à Brucella melitensis touche les ruminants domestiques et sauvages, ainsi que d’autres mammifères, dont les humains. Bien que la France soit officiellement indemne depuis 2005, deux cas humains reportés en Haute-Savoie en 2012 ont conduit à la découverte de l’infection dans un élevage bovin et chez les bouquetins des Alpes (Capra ibex) du massif du Bargy. Nous présentons dans cette synthèse les principales découvertes de ces dix dernières années sur le système brucellose-bouquetins. Nous discuterons également de l’apport de la recherche et de l’expertise sur l’évaluation de l’efficacité des mesures de gestion sanitaire mises en place dans le massif du Bargy pour lutter contre la brucellose.

This paper presents a comparative study of the development of national and regional identities in three different border regions of France: the Basses-Alpes, the Moselle and French Flanders. It demonstrates that in spite of political, economic and social differences between the regions, the presence of the border and interaction with foreigners in specifically border regions similarly influenced identity formation in interwar France. In each case hierarchies or degrees of foreignness were developed, and a specific form of national identity came to be dominant which was determined more by a differentiation from ‘others’ than through an identification with shared, centre-generated national images.

At the end of May 2003, the Marseilles Hospital Centre’s virology laboratory informed the French public heath institute of 5 cases of confirmed measles among young adults living in Marseilles. An investigation was conducted, consulting different community and hospital health services, to determine the virus circulation in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region by the southern interregional epidemiological cell. The investigation identified 259 cases: 183 clinical, 74 serologically confirmed and 2 epidemiologically linked cases. The first cases were identified during the first six months of 2003, with a peak in April. This outbreak of measles in the PACA region was favoured by poor vaccination coverage, which created groups of susceptible population. The real number of cases was probably higher than the number identified. This investigation has outlined the limitations of the measles surveillance system in France: the sentinel network had not detected any case for this period. France needs to reach the WHO objective of measles elimination by 2010 and the surveillance tools used must be those already used in the most countries that are furthest advanced in the elimination process. To reach this goal, the Direction Générale de la Santé has nominated a working group to be in charge of proposing a national plan to interrupt indigenous measles transmission in France.

En France, les personnes âgées immigrées extracommunautaires ( pai ) figurent parmi les groupes les plus sévèrement affectés par la Covid-19. Les conséquences sociales, économiques et psychologiques sont particulièrement accablantes pour de nombreuses pai , déjà vulnérabilisées par des parcours migratoires, professionnels et résidentiels complexes, et des parcours d’accompagnement social et d’accès aux soins inadéquats. D’autres facteurs structurels, tels que la méconnaissance par les pouvoirs publics de leurs problématiques, ainsi qu’une inattention systémique vis-à-vis de leurs besoins spécifiques, contribuent à engendrer un processus d’invisibilisation sociale exacerbant leur marginalisation. Cet article présente un pan des résultats d’une recherche-action conduite dans six régions françaises durant la pandémie de Covid-19 : Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Île-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur et Occitanie. L’objectif était d’identifier et de mieux comprendre les difficultés, les besoins et les facteurs de résilience des pai dans le contexte de la pandémie. L’article s’appuie sur des données qualitatives issues d’entretiens et de groupes de discussion avec 79 pai . L’analyse des données montre comment la crise liée à la Covid-19 a engendré des effets disproportionnés poussant le processus d’invisibilisation sociale à son paroxysme. En outre, l’étude identifie et explore les ressources individuelles et collectives mobilisées comme stratégies de résilience par les pai pour faire face aux défis de cette crise sanitaire.

Abstract Because of the worldwide distribution of the Barn Owl (Tyto alba) and the easily way to find its pellets, it is often used to diet studies. To investigate the eco-geographical impact of mountainous areas on its diet, we conducted studies in the Jura, Alpes, Central and Pyrénées mountains and we also did pellet analysis from 8 sites in the Jura mountains. Analysis of the tooth and skull content of pellets allowed us to draw up two types of change in the diet of Tyto alba in correlation with mountain elevation. The first one concerns the Jura, Alpes and Central mountains, where the diversity of the diet declines with the increase in elevation. The second one concerns the Pyrénées mountains, where there is no change in the diversity of the diet, perhaps because of the higher diversity of small mammals caused by mediterranean influence. Thus, it seems that elevation cau ses a decrease in diet diversity of Tyto alba in continental mountains (Jura, Alpes and Central mountains) probably because of more homogeneous landscapes dedicated to grass production. However, in Mediterranean mountains (Pyrénées), a more diversified small mammal guild provides a constant level of diet diversity.
