The population in this study were students of class X- IPA - 2 SMA Negeri 2 Makassar with a size of population of 68 students. Because all population units can be reached and it is possible not If data is damaged, this study uses census research. As for the variables that studied in this study, namely: (1) satisifier in studying physics which includes achievement individual achievement of students in physics lessons, recognition or self-actualization in PBM physics, learning physics itself, self-responsibility to study physics, and development individual potential of students in studying physics, and (2) dissatisfiers in studying physics which includes family socio-economic conditions, PBM physics conditions, policies and administration school (teachers), student relations, and the quality of teacher supervision. Data collection tools that used in this research is a questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed by the technique of descriptive. The results showed that student satisfaction in studying physics can achieved by satisfiers factors. Student dissatisfaction in studying physics will occur by condition dissatisfier. Based on results study on could it is concluded that if condition satisfiers could achieved, so will give motivation for learn physics, so that possible capable create satisfaction student in learn physics, which Finally, good achievement will be obtained in studying physics. If the condition dissatisfiers could achieved, so no will give motivation for learn physics, so that it is possible to create student dissatisfaction in studying physics that finally won't obtained achievement achievement good in learn physics.

One of the aims of the Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) Physics syllabus is “to provide the basis for further study of the subject”. This research determined the extent to which the syllabus is fulfilling this aim. In this study, seven post-secondary Physics teachers participated in semi-structured interviews and 200 students provided feedback to a questionnaire. Areas in which the SEC Physics syllabus is not preparing students well enough to further their studies in the subject were identified and suggestions were given to help improve the situation. This study confirmed that there is an academic disparity between SEC and Advanced Matriculation (AM) Physics. This disparity is highlighted in the problem-solving skills necessary for success at both levels, mathematical physics, language and in concepts which are highly abstract. The study also confirmed that there is a large amount of rote learning involved in SEC level Physics. As a result, students learn superficially and struggle to grasp the complex concepts taught in A-level Physics. In order to prepare students better for post-secondary education, SEC Physics students should be asked to answer questions which involve higher levels of thinking and to solve more complex mathematical problems. Furthermore, more frequent practical sessions, a greater degree of student involvement and a greater emphasis on the link between theoretical ideas and practical work is also recommended. A shift of emphasis is required from teaching content to teaching higher order thinking skills.

Ideally, students who study Computational Physics are required to think computationally. However, student learning outcomes tend to be low. Low learning outcomes are suspected by students having difficulties. One of the causes of learning difficulties is students' attitude in responding to learning. This study aims to determine student attitudes in studying Computational Physics and the factors influencing student learning difficulties. This research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were students of Physics FMIPA UNP. The sample in this research is students who take Computational Physics courses in January-June 2021. The data analysis technique used is the multivariate analysis based on factor loading testing with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) using Lisrel 8.80. The results showed that students' attitudes toward Computational Physics were good, with a percentage of student responses of 67.16%. Factors that influence learning difficulties are internal factors in the form of psychological factors in the aspect of interest (65%), motivational aspects (58%), and aspects of study habits (49%). Meanwhile, external factors do not affect students' difficulties in studying Computational Physics. Further research, it is necessary to carry out a similar analysis by taking into account other factors that are thought to influence the attitudes and difficulties of students in studying Computational Physics, both internal and external factors, so that they are better in determining the next steps to overcome student difficulties in studying Computational Physics.

Problem-solving in the Quantum Physics course which requires a very mathematical description and analysis is considered difficult by students, especially if the learning is done online. This study aims to find out the difficulties of learning Quantum Physics courses through online learning for physics education students in class 2018 FKIP USK. The subjects in this study were students of physics education class 2018 who took the Quantum Physics course, totaling 49 people. The research approach used is descriptive quantitative. Data collection was carried out using a closed questionnaire based on the google form. The results showed that students had learning difficulties using online learning in the Quantum Physics course from internal factors, namely cognitive indicators with a total score of 841 while external factors, namely community environmental indicators, with a total score of 457. Conclusions Based on the difficulties experienced by students in this study, it can be seen that students have some difficulties in studying Quantum Physics material online.

Several different effects in electroweak quantum corrections are explored separately through the latest data on the weak-boson masses. The leading-log approximation, the improved-Born approximation and the nondecoupling top-quark effects are studied without depending on the recent CDF data about mt, and the results are given in a form independent, of the Higgs mass. On the other hand, the bosonic and the nondecoupling Higgs effects are examined by fully taking account of those CDF data. It is emphasized that future precision measurements of MW and mt are considerably significant not only for further studies of the electroweak theory at higher confidence level but also for new-physics searches beyond it.

Each year, many students opt to study physics at higher education level in the UK – at the University of Glasgow, this number is around 180. A small number of these students, though, choose to leave this area after only one year. Over two academic years (2018-2019 and 2019-2020), there were 16 students such students. The work presented here explores the reasons why they left. Whilst the structure of degrees at UofG allows for students to make such a change, it was important to understand why students would choose to make such a significant change in case it pointed to negative factors in the way the course was being delivered. A study of literature found five main broad factors that influenced the decisions of students to change degree topic: content of course (including how it was delivered), gender stereotypes, peers and the wider university community, salary and job opportunities, and staff. These areas were explored in interviews and emails. It was found that course content and job prospects played a stronger role in influencing the students’ decisions than the other factors. Positives in other disciplines, and poor communication of the positives within physics, contributed to the students’ decisions. Similar issues may exist in any discipline; therefore, a better understanding of these motivating factors will allow us to improve our teaching and advising provisions to ensure that no-one is unnecessarily lost from a particular path.

The research aimed at investigating the improvement of students’ interest in studying physics to students of class XI IPA-1 at SMA Negeri 1 Lappariaja of Bone by utilizing outdoor study method in teaching-learning management. This study was a classroom action research consisted of two cycles of teaching-learning management which covered: (1) the planning, (2) the action stage, (3) the observation stage, and (4) the reflection stage. The collected data covered: (1) the data result of studying physics before conducting the treatment, (2) the data of students’ interests in studying physics, (3) the data result of studying physics of cycle I and II, and (4) the data result of observation/teachers’ notes on each of research cycles. Those data were obtained through questionnaire on the students’ interests in studying physics, the test result of physics cycle I and II, and students’ observation sheets. The data then was analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative analysis. The result of the research shows that there is improvement in studying physics both in cycles I and II to students at SMA Negeri 1 Lappariaja of Bone, the average of the mastery level in studying physics is in high category, and the readiness, the willingness and students’ activeness in following the learning process was improved. The analysis indicated that there was improvement of students’ interests in studying physics at SMA Negeri 1 Lappariaja after conducting the teaching-learning management by utilizing Outdoor study method.Keywords: Outdoor Study Method; Kinematics Physics; Interest in Learning Physics; Learning Outcomes Physics.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatkan minat dan hasil belajar Fisika siswa kelas XI IPA-1 SMA Negeri 1 Lappariaja Kabupaten Bone dengan menggunakan metode Outdoor Study dalam pengelolaan pembelajaran. Penelitian ini termasuk Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), yang terdiri dari 2 siklus pengelolaan pembelajaran yang mencakup: (1) perencanaan, (2) tahap pelaksanaan tindakan, (3) tahap observasi, dan (4) tahap refleksi. Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi: (1) data tentang hasil belajar Fisika sebelum pelaksanaan tindakan, (2) data tentang minat belajar Fisika siswa, (3) data tentang hasil belajar Fisika siklus I dan siklus II, dan (4) data hasil observasi/catatan-catatan guru pada setiap siklus penelitian. Data tersebut diperoleh melalui angket tentang minat belajar Fisika siswa, tes hasil belajar Fisika sebelum pelaksanaan tindakan, tes hasil belajar Fisika siklus I dan siklus II, serta lembar observasi belajar siswa. Data tersebut selanjutnya dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar Fisika siswa SMA Negeri 1 Lappariaja Kabupaten Bone baik pada siklus I maupun pada siklus II, rata-rata tingkat penguasaan materi belajar Fisika berada pada kategori tinggi, dan kesiapan, kesungguhan dan keaktifan siswa mengikuti proses pembelajaran semakin meningkat. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan minat dan hasil belajar Fisika siswa SMA Negeri 1 Lappariaja setelah dilakukan pengelolaan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode Outdoor Study.Kata kunci: Metode Outdoor Study; Fisika Kinematika; Minat Belajar Fisika; Hasil Belajar Fisika.

The article describes the expediency for students to acquire the skills to use software tools, the use of which gives the opportunity to form their information competence, to implement pedagogical methods of individualization and differentiation of their educational activities. The aim of the paper is to show the expediency and necessity of using the elements of computer simulation while learning Physics as a basis for the formation of information competence of the student. The main research methods were aimed at establishing the level of information competence of students using the elements of computer simulation in Physics lessons. The approach to the use of computer simulation elements in Physics lessons is considered, in particular, when studying the section “Atomic nucleus. Nuclear Energy” in the 9th form of general secondary education institutions.It has been found out that the study of Physics using the elements of computer simulation allows to increase the students’ interest in learning physical phenomena and processes, the level of mastering knowledge through the use of visual means of educational materials, to stimulate the development of cognitive activity and creative thinking, which in general will promote the formation of the information competence level in students. Based on the experimental study, it was found that the process of forming the students’ information competence using the elements of computer simulation has ensured the high achievements for the majority of students of the experimental class.

A coupled atmospheric/wildfire behavior model is described that utilizes physics-based process models to represent wildfire behavior. Five simulations are presented, four of which are highly idealized situations that are meant to illustrate some of the dependencies of the model on environmental conditions. The fifth simulation consists of a fire burning in complex terrain with non-homogeneous vegetation and realistic meteorological conditions. The simulated fire behavior develops out of the coupling of a set of very complex processes and not from prescribed rules based on empirical data. This represents a new direction in wildfire modeling that we believe will eventually help decision makers and land managers do their jobs more effectively.

Understanding the concept and having a positive attitude towards studying physics is a requirement to succeed in studying physics. Studies have shown that students have low conceptual understanding and do not yet have positive attitudes toward learning physics. This research aims to analyze students' conceptual understanding of Straight Motion for class X, analyze students' attitudes towards learning physics, and analyze the correlation between conceptual understanding and students' attitudes towards teaching physics. This type of research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach and the population of all students of class X SMAN in Payakumbuh City and a sample of 205 students. The sampling technique used the purposive sampling technique using the Four-Tier Multiple Choice and Likert Scale. The research results revealed: Students understood the concept of 33.93% in the medium category. Students' attitudes towards studying physics are good, but the indicators of interest in increasing the time to study physics tend to be in the reasonably good category. The correlation between conceptual understanding and student attitudes with a significance value of 0.000 and a correlation value of 0.490 means that the correlation between the concept understanding variable and the student attitude variable is moderate.

The study of acoustic black holes has been undertaken to provide new insights about the role of high frequencies in black hole evaporation. Because of the infinite gravitational redshift from the event horizon, Hawking quanta emerge from configurations which possessed ultra high (trans-Planckian) frequencies. Therefore Hawking radiation cannot be derived within the framework of a low energy effective theory; and in all derivations there are some assumptions concerning Planck scale physics. The analogy with condensed matter physics was thus introduced to see if the asymptotic properties of the Hawking phonons emitted by an acoustic black hole, namely stationarity and thermality, are sensitive to the high frequency physics which stems from the granular character of matter and which is governed by a non-linear dispersion relation. In 1995 Unruh showed that they are not sensitive in this respect, in spite of the fact that phonon propagation near the (acoustic) horizon drastically differs from that of photons. In 2000 the same analogy was used to establish the robustness of the spectrum of primordial density fluctuations in inflationary models. This analogy is currently stimulating research for experimenting Hawking radiation. Finally it could also be a useful guide for going beyond the semi-classical description of black hole evaporation.

According to the results of the entrance control, the training level from the general course of physics of the first year students studying in technical specialties was analyzed. The object of the study - the training level of the general course of physics of the first year students, studying in technical specialties. Purpose of the study - analyze the level of general education in physics of the first year students, studying in technical specialties with the help of entrance control, whose tasks represented the problems of the specified academic discipline. Method of the study - for the purpose of the study, the following methods were used: analysis, synthesis, generalization, formulation of conclusions. In this paper, the results of entrance control of knowledge from the physics of the first year students studying in technical specialties that was carried out in the beginning of 2018-2019 academic year are presented. The tasks of the entrance control were the problems, the complexity of which did not go beyond the limits of the program of physics for general-education institutions of the standard level. The analysis of the entrance control results revealed a rather low level of general education from the physics in most students. On the basis of the performed analysis of the entrance control results, it was concluded that the existing level of general education on the physics in most of the first-year students is not sufficient for the successful study of the specified academic discipline of the technical university level. The results of the article can be introduced into the educational process while teaching the general physics course to students of technical and pedagogical universities. Forecast assumptions about the object of study - consideration of scientific methods that enhance the motivation of students of technical universities to study the course of general physics. AbstractThe convection-enhanced paradigm behind core-collapse supernovae (SNe) invokes a multi-physics model where convection above the proto-neutron star is able to convert the energy released in the collapse to produce the violent explosions observed as SNe. Over the past decade, the evidence in support of this engine has grown, including constraints placed by SN neutrinos, energies, progenitors and remnants. Although considerable theoretical work remains to utilize this data, our understanding of normal SNe is advancing. To achieve a deeper level of understanding, we must find ways to compare detailed simulations with the increasing set of observational data. Here we review the current constraints and how we can apply our current understanding to broaden our understanding of these powerful engines.

At present, with the continuous growth of scientific and technological progress, the study of physics plays an important role. University students are required to master competencies aimed at developing skills for applying physics knowledge in solving research problems. However, university students often have difficulties in studying physics. The purpose of the study is to propose a research method for studying physics based on a system-activity approach for the formation of general professional competence which in its turn aimed at the formation of ways of activity while solving research problems by university students. The author proposes a research method of studying physics including tasks for mastering fundamental knowledge of the nature, the acquisition of practical skills, and the formation of a skill to use knowledge in the research activity. The paper presents a model of the phased implementation of the research method of training based on a system-activity approach indicating the types of tasks and the content of competence indicators. The author considers the method of application of the proposed methodology with the description of the order of executing a research task in the physics section “Waves”, conducts a pedagogical experiment using testing of knowledge of physics among the technology university students. The author carried out the statistical analysis of experimental data using the Student’s t-test. The study shows that students who studied physics based on the research method of teaching physics have successfully mastered the system of knowledge, practical skills, and acquired skills that contribute to the formation of a general professional competence. This shows the effectiveness of the author’s methodology based on the research method of teaching physics to university students.

We present new methods for patterning and controlling the cross-section of the CDW conductor niobium triselenide crystals to sub-micron dimensions using photolithography and electron beam lithography. Experiments demonstrating these techniques are presented: accurate four-probe measurement of the c-axis resistivity as a function of temperature, and measurements of width and thickness-dependent size effects on the CDW condensate. In all samples, a region with near-perfect rectangular cross-section is left to provide a control, eliminating the need to compare different samples and reduces the role of sample-to-sample variations in the analyses.

Interdisciplinary science teaching in (lower) secondary education can lead to out-of-field teaching in countries with a discipline-specific teacher education. For example, the discipline-specific teacher education in Germany does not fit the current demands of interdisciplinary science teaching, especially in comprehensive schools. Self-rated content knowledge (srCK)—a specific part of academic self-concept—of (prospective) teachers is important in the context of motivational orientations and due to the reciprocal relation of academic self-concept and performance. Previous research did not focus on the long-term development of core idea-based srCK regarding secondary education. Thus, we surveyed 271 (prospective) teachers of biology, chemistry, and physics three times (2019–2021). In addition, we surveyed seven chemistry and physics pre-service teachers participating in a biology content knowledge (CK) course. Taking into account measurement invariance, we used structural equation modeling and latent change models. The srCK of biology, chemistry, and physics showed a high relative and absolute stability. We did not find any correlation between srCK of biology and chemistry. SrCK of chemistry and physics always showed a small positive correlation. SrCK of biology and physics always had a strong negative correlation. Supporting these results, studying physics had a negative effect on the srCK of biology, and studying chemistry had a positive effect on the srCK of physics. Additionally, studying the subject of the srCK in question always had a strong positive effect. Though srCK seems to be time-stable, a biology CK course for pre-service chemistry and physics teachers showed strong positive changes in their srCK of biology. Thus, training in an unstudied subject could help to cope with the undesired time-stability of srCK. In addition, the strong negative correlation between the srCK of biology and of physics needs to be addressed in teacher education.

We have developed an analytical model for the implosion of a heavy ion beam driven multilayered cylindrical target. The target consists of a thick metallic shell, typically made of lead which is filled with a low density material, for example frozen hydrogen, and it is axially irradiated with a heavy ion beam with an annular focal spot. The model describes the expansion of the absorption region, the implosion of the pusher, the trajectories of the incident and reflected shocks and the final quasi-isentropic compression. The model is expected to be very helpful to optimize detailed simulations of such problems which are of close relevance to the GSI plasma physics experimental program, planned for the future upgraded accelerator facilities.
