Streszczenie:
Interchanges are the key nodes of the freeway. Due to the existence of weaving behavior, the traffic flow situation is more complicated for small spacing interchanges. Continuous auxiliary lanes are usually used to connect the entrance and exit to form a compound interchange to reduce the interference of weaving behavior. However, when it comes to the design of auxiliary lane forms, China lacks relevant design specifications and research in this area. As a result, there often exists the phenomenon of mismatch between the design form and the traffic volume. In this paper, we took a compound interchange in Xi’an as the research object, proposing four auxiliary lane design schemes and using VISSIM (2022 student) software to establish the simulation model. Additionally, various traffic conditions were simulated through sensitivity analysis. Finally, using the factor analysis method and entropy method, we comprehensively assigned weights to the indexes. By obtaining the weighted scores for various schemes, it became possible to determine the applicability of each scheme under different traffic conditions. The results indicate that the gradient auxiliary lane can be applied to most traffic conditions and has a smaller land occupation than the traditional design, which is an optimization and improvement for the traditional design form.

The B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, is following an innovative hybrid curriculum. Conventional lectures are replaced by “structured interactive sessions” (SIS). SIS involves increased interchange between teachers, students, and lecture contents by proper planning and organized efforts. It can promote active learning and heighten attention and motivation. The present study was conducted to enhance active interactions during such sessions. The students were divided into two groups and asked to come prepared for the lectures. Students were encouraged to ask questions and interact informally during lectures. A scoreboard was maintained, and student feedback was taken at the end of the lecture block. The entire student response was reduced to a student acceptability index (SAI). Our results show a statistically significant increase in interactions per student per day. A majority of the responses in the questionnaire and SAI were favorable. Specific comments and suggestions of students were also positive. These results show that simple innovative techniques enhance the interactions during a lecture session.

Pusat Grosir Cililitan (PGC) signalized intersection is one of the 67 traffic-prone locations located in DKI Jakarta Province, this is because in this intersection there are many business centers in Cililitan such as factories, malls, SMEs, markets, street vendors, and schools that operate which causes poor interchange performance. Poor interchange performance leads to queue length, delays, fuel wastage and time loss due to congestion. This research was conducted to analyze and optimize intersections using the PKJI 2014 method and the Student version of PTV Vissim Software. Based on the results of the study, the largest saturation degree (DS) value was obtained, namely 2,298 skr / hour, queue length (QL) of 130.84 meters, the largest average deviation delay (Dsimpang) of 361.65 s / skr. Meanwhile, the results of one of the optimizations of the intersection provide an alternative to the optimization of the interchange performance by changing the previously 4-phase phase to 2-phase and eliminating the movement of the right turn, and a decrease in delay to 48.85 seconds / skr and a change in the interchange performance category from LoS F to LoS E.

Becoming and being a teacher in higher education is a long process of individual transformation. The research aims at highlighting the meaning of time and relations in regard to teachers’ professional self-awareness through their interactions with students in higher education. The research design was qualitative in which the phenomenological methodology according to Max van Manen version was applied. Findings revealed that temporality and relationality are social constructs that shape the teacher-student interactions in higher education as they are loaded with worldviews that guide their educational actions and and their relationships. Thus their subjectivities and life-world educational experiences-based worlds are built on temporalities. A higher education teacher’s professional self-awareness is a developmental process which requires from the person reflection on his/her own experiences. Teachers through interactions with students balance between expectations and requirements which encourage both sides to find ways of integrating creative methods into the teaching and learning processes. Through working with students, teachers step into the “unknown” and learn within togetherness. Being in togetherness brings bilateral interchange between teachers and students, which motivates both sides to be self-aware. These reciprocal interactions invite participants to grow and seek mutual interchange through different experiences and contexts.

The implementation of a distributed system for publishing students' academic courses aims to facilitate and standardize the dissemination of information on students' academic paths. The main objective of this system is to provide a secure and reliable platform where students can view their academic history. Relevant information includes degrees earned, grades, research projects, internships completed, publications, and skills acquired. To set up such a system, it is essential to take into account several aspects. First of all, the confidentiality and security of student data must be guaranteed. It is necessary to implement strict access control and data encryption mechanisms to protect sensitive information. Then, it is important to define a standardized publication framework that allows students to present their courses in a coherent and understandable way for third parties. This may include information presentation models, metadata tags and data interchange standards. In addition, collaboration between the various players in the system is essential. Universities should cooperate to share student academic data securely. Employers and other organizations should also be actively involved in using this system to verify and validate student academic background information. Finally, it is crucial to put in place data verification and validation processes to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the information published. Academic authorities can play a key role in verifying the validity of degrees and certifications.

This study examined how a group of Korean international students enrolled in a writing class in a United States business programme navigated their literacy practices through the use of KakaoTalk, a social networking application for smartphones. On the basis of 29 student interviews and a detailed narrative of one focal student’s activities in KakaoTalk group sessions, the study aimed to elucidate the less studied feature of literacy studies: the social networking methods that students mobilise to make meaning of their school literacy activities collaboratively and individually. The study findings suggest that students’ identities and literacy performances shape one another through the intersection of local and global forces. Theories of identity and the Korean concept of “in-maek” offer important insights into the dynamic interchange of students’ social and literacy practices and identities. This study provides insights into the influence of such identity work on students’ academic experiences and the development of a curriculum for a business programme writing class.

Japan and Indonesia have developed mutual cooperation in academic exchange programs for the past three decades. Japan acknowledges that student interchange plays a significant role in promoting mutual understanding between Japan and foreign countries. Japanese government expects international students, either those who are still studying in Japan or those who have returned to their home countries, serve as a bridge between their countries and Japan. To achieve this goal, Japanese government employs some agencies to undertake academic exchange programs. In Indonesia, particularly, some Japanese agencies such as Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), Japan Foundation, and Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) have played important role in student exchanges. They have various programs to attract Indonesian students getting involved in academic exchanges. This paper describes these agencies’ role in academic exchange programs between Japan and Indonesia. Considering that the Japanese agencies work to promote Japan’s soft power through public diplomacy activities under transgovernmental networks model, I utilize concepts of public diplomacy and transgovernmental networks as a framework for analyzing the case. I argue that Japanese agencies have successfully served as Japanese public diplomacy agents by acting great role in advancing Japan’s soft power through academic exchange activities. However, some challenges appear in the way to achieve Japanese public diplomacy goal to create mutual understanding between Japanese and Indonesian people.

In this paper, we describe our efforts to develop a humanitarian approach to the teaching of behavioural science using animals. Reduction, replacement and refinement of animal use in education are most useful if they help reconnect students and teachers with their underlying feelings, attitudes and ethical values related to animal usage. In order to initiate this reconnection process, we established the Northeastern University Center for Science Education (NUCASE) to encourage the dissemination of information and the development of projects that address ethical issues in college science curricula. Two directions that NUCASE has piloted using a humanitarian approach are outlined: an alternative to the traditional animal laboratory course in learning that uses student-run field experiments with feral pigeons in a park; and a conference designed to promote open interchange about personal concerns and ethical dilemmas in the use of animals in education.

The primary objective of this research was to investigate the execution of the Nusantara Module program at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), Indonesia, and examine its impact on participating students, emphasizing the program’s adaptability and response to the Cianjur earthquake catastrophe in 2022. This study used a mixed-method approach, combining the qualitative analysis of program papers and communication with the quantitative analysis of post-program surveys and verbatim analysis of student responses. This research revealed systematic methods such as regular meetings, rapid issue resolution, monthly reporting, rigorous evaluation, and post-program surveys. The findings show that students were quite satisfied with the cultural interchange, academic and non-academic learning experiences, hospitality, excursions, and amenities provided. However, areas for improvement were highlighted, including extending module destinations, resolving financial issues, addressing social integration obstacles, improving communication, addressing facility concerns, and improving program management. The contributions of this study extend to both academia and practice. Academically, this research augments the understanding of program management, student mobility, disaster response, and community engagement within the Indonesian educational landscape. Practically, this study provides a blueprint for educational institutions aiming to enhance the resilience and effectiveness of their programs in times of crisis. By elaborating on the implications and contributions of this research, we underscore its significant and far-reaching impact on educational practices, disaster management strategies, and community well-being.

Our research is based on the idea that problem solving is a core activity in the study and teaching of mathematics. The traditional curriculum recommended solving problems in one way with one answer. However, at the present time, they began to talk about the need to learn the skills of solving problems in many ways with many answers and to choose the most rational one. Therefore, as part of the Creative Thinking course, we organized the independent activities of student teachers who think in different ways, and conducted research on the development of their problem solving skills over several semesters of the academic year. As a result, they found their own ways to independently solve problems, and as a result of the interchange of ways to solve problems between students and teachers, they were able to complete 26 variants of the same problem. By this we tried to emphasize the importance of solving problems using different methods.

Abstract For Asante our “battle is intense, the struggle we wage for status power is serious and we cannot communicate as equals when our economic position is that of servants” (2008, p. 49), words that resonated with the author throughout her research with Sudanese Australian young women about their educational experiences, as captured in co-created short films. While the work moved between social science and arts-based research the author questioned the basis of her relationship with the co-participants, and the possibility of fluid status positions within educational contexts. This paper interrogates the im/possibility within neoliberal secondary school contexts for activist educational research (Giroux, 2005) to be the kind of ‘interchange’ of which Asante speaks, a source of creative understanding for researchers and co-participants, if it cannot address co-participants’ (and teacher/student) unequal material conditions. In the case presented in this article, materially-influenced communication challenges reflect current curricular and pedagogical tensions, especially for refugee-background students. Where racial, cultural and socio-economic marginalities intersect, pedagogical and curricular possibilities are sometimes foreclosed before students even enter ‘neoliberal’ classrooms.

Objectives: Students' mental health issues often adversely affect their physical as well as emotional well- being. Mental health includes much more than the absence of mental illnesses or diseases. The current study evaluated international students' mental health through a cultural communication approach in Metaverse to examine the moderating influences of cyberchondria and healthcare anxiety in the context of China. The idea of virtual reality in the Metaverse is currently one of the world's most significant and contentious issues. It has influenced the growth of the Internet, which directly affects the physical world. Methods: The data extraction method employed in the study was the questionnaire method, distributed to the Chinese Students. Various units for the variables were used in the questionnaire development, which aided in assessing the variable using measurement scales. Results: The findings showed a substantial connection between internal Chinese students at medical universities' mental health and cross-cultural dialogue in the Metaverse. Healthcare anxiety was observed to have a significant moderating effect, but cyberchondria had a negligible effect on student mental health and cultural communication in the Metaverse. Conclusion: The current study would help foster cross-cultural interaction among international and home-country students to foster a better interchange of cultural values.

his study explores the utility of employing a student-created experiential narrative ePortfolio as a multimodal tool for reflective practice in WIL. It does so by examining a case study situated within the performing arts, where WIL discourses are rarely adopted, and few examples are present in the literature. This paper introduces a circular mentoring framework that extends Kolb’s experiential learning model, whereby learning is facilitated through the interchange of roles through rehearsal and reflection. In this study, participants prepared and performed an opera in a professional venue over a five-day period of intense creative studio work. The 2017 and 2018 Inclusion Project is an innovative teaching and learning opportunity that offered authentic industry-based experience to undergraduate music students in a closely monitored, non-placement WIL setting. Participants (n=18) undertaking a semester long elective, reported their experience through online journaling in an ePortfolio allowing them to create narrative responses. A qualitative analysis using narrative inquiry on the ePortfolio reflections indicated a direct benefit for student’s career readiness as creative artists.

The aeronautical sciences and aerospace industry are by nature international. Coming from this thesis, we decided in 1994 to organise an international meeting, further called the Seminar, devoted to “RECENT RESEARCH AND DESIGN PROGRESS IN AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING AND ITS INFLUENCE ON EDUCATION”. The objective of that first Seminar and following ones was to organise a multinational forum for discussion and interchange of aeronautical issues and subjects, focusing on their influence on university education. Other goals included promoting international co-operation in the study of the problems in aeronautical science and technology in which there was a common interest and facilitating personal contacts between scientists, university lecturers, and industrial engineers. Our area of interest was aeronautical technology, as it is widely understood. The special focus of our Seminars was concentrated on Aircraft Design, Aircraft Oriented Aerodynamics, Flight Dynamics, Helicopter Dynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Materials and Structures, Control and Flight Tests. All these topics and their influence on the teaching process at a technical university were considered — what we believe is a specific feature of our Seminars. We notice a mutual influence between contemporary research and education; it is impossible to deliver a modern university lecture without conducting one’s own serious research or design, and it is almost impossible to become a serious, successful researcher or designer without being a graduate of a good, contemporary university. The other specific feature of our Seminars is a student session. An international jury of professors and deans from aerospace faculties all over the world observes the sessions and awarded the best student papers diplomas (sometimes with small prizes contributed by different institutions). We believe that the student sessions promote personal contacts between students and foreign lecturers and encourage students to work harder in the future. For all of us, it is the promise of a new generation of engineers, designers and scientists.

Experiential learning is a new way of learning. In recent years, the research on experiential learning has been deepening, which has had a certain impact on the traditional teacher-centered teaching mode. As for subject education, language is a subject with strong situational application, and its educational model has also changed under the impact. The student-centered learning concept changes the original teaching. Compared with the traditional teaching mode, experiential learning has its unique innovation and many advantages but also has its limitations. In terms of application, languages are essential tools for cross-cultural interchange, so learning a foreign language is of great importance. However, the process of trying to master it has many challenges both for students and teachers. The integration of experiential learning into foreign language teaching has changed the role of teachers in the previous education system to some extent and also put forward new requirements for students. The starting point of this paper is based on the research status of experiential learning and the current situation of college foreign language teaching and analyzes the application of experiential learning in college foreign language teaching. This paper also introduces the advantages of experiential learning in foreign language teaching compared with the traditional mode, which are creating a language environment, stimulating students' learning initiative, and improving students' language application ability.

This books offers an appreciation of the life and work of Father Mon Van Genechten, a Belgian artist-priest who was a missionary in China from 1930 to 1946. It presents Father Van Genechten as an open-hearted and creative man of faith, and also makes the rather dramatic claim that Van Genechten, whose art combined Chinese styles with Christian iconography, should be seen as a Chinese artist. The book contains two essays: one by De Ridder, on the art-historical context of Van Genechten's work; and the other by Swerts, giving fuller biographical detail. It also includes a brief memoir of Van Genechten by a former student; reproductions of his paintings, woodcuts and photographs; a list of his exhibitions; and a catalog of his known works. This catalogue is, unfortunately, less useful than it might be as it gives neither the current location of a work nor where it is reproduced.Van Genechten is no neglected genius, but he is potentially interesting to students of Christian missionary work in China, of the modern development of Christian art, and also to students of modern Chinese art. His career – which encompassed decorating churches in Inner Mongolia, teaching at the Catholic University of Peking, and being prisoner of war in Shandong – offers a fresh perspective on East–West artistic interchange. But while the book introduces a worthwhile subject, it falls short in analysis and historical contextualization.

This study investigates knowledge structures and scientific communication using bibliometric methods to explore scientific knowledge production and dissemination. The aim is to develop knowledge about this growing field by investigating studies using international large-scale assessment (ILSA) data, with a specific focus on those using Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) data. As international organisations use ILSA to measure, assess and compare the success of national education systems, it is important to study this specific knowledge to understand how it is organised and legitimised within research. The findings show an interchange of legitimisation, where major actors from the USA and other English-speaking and westernised countries determine the academic discourse. Important epistemic cultures for PISA research are identified: the most important of which are situated within psychology and education. These two research environments are epicentres created by patterns of the referrals to and referencing of articles framing the formulation of PISA knowledge. Finally, it is argued that this particular PISA research is self-referential and self-authorising, which raises questions about whether research accountability leads to ‘a game of thrones’, where rivalry going on within the scientific field concerning how and on what grounds ‘facts’ and ‘truths’ are constructed, as a continuing process with no obvious winner.

Streszczenie:
The predominant model of sustainable architecture is based on a sharp differentiation between technical and social realms that tends to situate architectural design practice in an ambiguous and marginalised position. Sustainable architecture as a whole has come to be dominated by a focus on engineering design with a related emphasis on energy efficiency and climate-change strategies that seek to improve the economic performance of buildings whilst providing little or no consideration of the wider contexts of architectural design and production. This paper argues for an expanded understanding of sustainable design and draws on ideas developed within the Philosophy of Technology to point to the broader cultural values and practices that surround particular design choices. From this perspective the work of engineers, architects, and other designers of the built environment provide settings upon which the ongoing dramas of political action are mounted.Through analysis of ‘live’ student design-build projects, the paper explores three distinct conceptualisations of sustainable design practice in which buildings are interpreted as physical manifestations of differentiated frames of design thinking that emphasise either de-contextualised, context-bound or re-contextualising design processes. Although these apparently distinct practices can be analytically differentiated, it is argued that the realisation of sustainable design practices inevitably involves a seamless interaction and interchange between the differentiated dimensions. The conclusion draws on the work of Andrew Feenberg to conceptualise sustainable design as a concrete practice whereby abstract technical concerns and social considerations seamlessly converge to produce artefacts that fit specific contexts.

AbstractObjective:A computer virus outbreak was recognized, verified, defined, investigated, and controlled using an infection control approach. The pathogenesis and epidemiology of computer virus infection are reviewed.Design:Case-control study.Setting:Pharmacy of a tertiary care teaching institution. Results:On October 28, 1991, 2 personal computers in the drug information center manifested symptoms consistent with the “Jerusalem” virus infection. The same day, a departmental personal computer began playing ‘Yankee Doodle,” a sign of “Doodle” virus infection. An investigation of all departmental personal computers identified the “Stoned” virus in an additional personal computer. Controls were functioning virus-free personal computers within the department. Cases were associated with users who brought diskettes from outside the department (5/5 cases versus 5/13 controls, p = .04) and with College of Pharmacy student users (3/5 cases versus 0/13 controls, p = .012). The detection of a virus-infected diskette or personal computer was associated with the number of 5 1/4-inch diskettes in the files of personal computers, a surrogate for rate of media exchange (mean= 17.4 versus 152.5, p = .018, Wilcoxon rank sum test). After education of departmental personal computer users regarding appropriate computer hygiene and installation of virus protection software, no further spread of personal computer viruses occurred, although 2 additional Stoned-infected and 1 Jerusalem-infected diskettes were detected. Conclusions:We recommend that virus detection software be installed on personal computers where the interchange of diskettes among computers is necessary, that write-protect tabs be placed on all program master diskettes and data diskettes where data are being read and not written, that in the event of a computer virus outbreak, all available diskettes be quarantined and scanned by virus detection software, and to facilitate quarantine and scanning in an outbreak, that diskettes be stored in organized files.

This paper aims to examine how a pair of Japanese and Finnish university students collaborate through an original Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project which was introduced as a completely out-of-class activity. Using a case study approach, I focus on the Japanese student’s reflection for an in-depth understanding of her experience of the COIL project over 4 months. The analysis is based on the data collected through an interview and her actual interchange of email messages and letters with her Finnish partner student. The results show (a) that the Japanese student embarked on the project with both expectations of intercultural communication and anxieties about her English proficiency, and (b) that the two students co-constructed their own communication styles as they shared personal information and developed empathy and rapport with each other. I also found (c) that the Japanese student’s obsession with formality and accuracy as well as recognition of her lack of communicative English contributed to the gradual decrease in the number of email messages. However, (d) this helped her to realize her needs and maintain, even enhance, her motivation to study English. The study also sheds light on the necessity of providing well-balanced opportunities for students to learn and use both formal and informal English in order to encourage better communication.

Focusing on a section of the Teaching International Students (TIS) project this article captures student and mentor perspectives within a Project-Based Professional Experience (PBPE) in the context of a large research-intensive university in Sydney, Australia. Animations co-produced with students were part of a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) compulsory upper-level course, leading to a ‘Community Building Framework’. The research goal shifted the educational purpose from didactic physical placements to collaborative dynamics where students, including international students, staff, and industry perspectives were ‘valued’. Prioritizing intercultural learning ‘challenged’ contested attitudes and ‘built’ communities of practice in a workforce focused ecology. Findings emerged from reflective interchanges whilst working iteratively and collaboratively with students, to inform the PBPE online framework.

The unchanging status of Aboriginal health initiated the need for changes to training for Aboriginal Health Workers. Charles Sturt University, in partnership with the Remote and Rural Health Training Unit (RARHTU) initiated, in consultation with the local Indigenous community, a program for upgrading qualifications of Aboriginal Health Workers to degree level. Several unique features were incorporated in the program design: an educational facilitator without a health career background; a challenging first subject based upon student's familial personal history; specialist sessions provided by professional health workers; recognition of prior learning taking into account the many varied levels of existing regional health services training. This paper discusses the course design and evaluation results, including the impact of the program upon lecturer's teaching style, students' personal and working lives and the effects the course may have regarding the status of Aboriginal health in the local area. Results of the initial program evaluation are presented and discussed in this paper.

Research examining teachers' standards and tolerance is reviewed with respect to an interactional model of teacher-student relationships. Because interactional models suggest that participants in behavioral interchanges influence each other reciprocally, the implications of teacher characteristics research relative to the mainstreaming of difficult-to-teach students is considered. In particular, the application of coercion theory to the relationships between teachers and students suggests that, just as mothers are often victims in coercive relationships with their problem children, teachers may also become victims of their students and the systems that hold them responsible for educating atypical learners. Finally, the implications of emerging research on teacher characteristics are discussed in light of the increased attention that calls for reform have focused on issues surrounding the integration of handicapped students into regular education settings.

Streszczenie:
Background: As part of student research at St. Petersburg architectural-construction University continues to develop alternative proposals for the creation of a circumferential highway at the boundaries of communication areas of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. The article presents the results of research works on optimization of routing highways, according to the architectural layout of buildings, transport hubs, to study the effects the pre-tension of the puffs and the guys at the reduction of efforts and deformations of the main elements of the highway, the calculations of the designs of the most high and loaded sea area. The construction of the 8-high-speed transport highway was upgraded due to restrictions related to the reconstruction of Levashovo and Pulkovo airports, the transfer of the capital of the Leningrad region to Gatchina, and linking to the promising metro stations Strelna, Yanino and Kudrovo. The upgraded scheme of the highway is proposed in the form of an open polygon with transport and interchange nodes in the corners and is based on load-bearing trestle structures of arched-cable design that provide the necessary functionality, reliability and safety. Aim: development of a district high-speed transport system on the borders of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, based on the widespread use of electric transport, with passenger traffic comparable to the metro line. Materials and Methods: trestle structures are designed for combinations of operating loads, forces and impacts, including consideration of dynamic aspects and non-linearity, using the "SCAD Office" software package. Results: based on the results of variant design, an arch-cable-stayed version with spans of 180 m and 360 m was adopted as a supporting structure according to the metal consumption criterion, which became the basic one for building a highway of overpass design. From an approximate calculation, it follows that the cost of building a highway on land plots (two-track scheme) compared to the construction of the metro, it is expected to be 5-6 times lower, and on the sea sections 3-4 times lower due to high pylons and deep pile foundations. Conclusion: the estimated volume of passenger traffic per day for the two-track high-speed and two-track high-speed highways will be 208 thousand passengers, and 76 million passengers per year, which is quite comparable to this indicator for the metro line.
