Abstract: This dissertation has as goal to investigate the musical performance of the American drummer Bill Stewart, detainer of a peculiar way of playing and one of the predominant jazz musicians nowadays. Continuing the research "The peculiar language of Bill Stewart on drumset", which determinate some defining elements of his performance on the instrument, this dissertation aims to identify whether those characteristic traits are similar to the approach of other drummers, which acted in the decades of 1950 and 1960, such as Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and Roy Haynes. The methodology utilized in this research consists of definition of the repertory, transcription of selected works, and a further comparative study. The interviews with Stewart served to cross check the information and to confirm some of the outputs of this analysis. This study allowed us to organize a comparative material that discuss if the similarities founded between the Stewart's approach and the musical language of the drummers of the preceding decades to him could be considered as his musical influences on drumset

Pełny tekst źródłaThe study of single-axis systems has been developed and used to build a six-axis isolator. A six degrees of freedom active isolator based on Stewart platform has been designed manufactured and tested for the purpose of active vibration isolation of sensitive payloads in space applications. This six-axis hexapod is designed according to the cubic configuration; it consists of two triangular parallel plates connected to each other by six active legs orthogonal to each other; each leg consists of a voice coil actuator, a force sensor and two flexible joints. Two different control techniques have been tested to control this isolator :integral force feedback and Lag-Lead compensator, the two techniques are based on force feedback and are applied in a decentralized manner. A micro-gravity parabolic flight test has been clone to test the isolator in micro-gravity environment.
ln the context of this research, another hexapod has been produced ;a generic active damping and precision painting interface based on Stewart platform. This hexapod consists of two parallel plates connected to each other by six active legs configured according to the cubic architecture. Each leg consists of an amplified piezoelectric actuator, a force sensor and two flexible joints. This Stewart platform is addressed to space applications where it aims at controlling the vibrations of space structures while connecting them rigidly. The control technique used here is the decentralized integral force feedback.

Pełny tekst źródłaBorn in 1941 in East Belfast, Stewart Parker came to prominence as a playwright in the 1970s. When he died in 1988, he left behind him an impressive body of work which included stage plays, radio plays and screenplays. Although he came to be recognized as one of the leading theatrical stylists of his generation, his work has received little attention in academic circles and no comprehensive study has been published yet. This study looks into the quest for identity in his stage plays. First, it explores his quest for identity as a writer who was born and raised in the Northern-Irish Protestant community, but always claimed to belong to a wider Anglo-Irish theatrical tradition. This thesis seeks to show how Parker, faced with the Northern Irish crisis, committed himself to reinventing theatre all over again with new ways of showing. It also explores his quest for identity as a playwright, who claimed to be non-political, but nevertheless believed firmly in the power of drama to change perceptions, and wrote extensively about the responsibility of the artist to his own people in a time of crisis. Finally, this thesis explores the quest for individual and collective identity in his plays. Aware of the stake of the question of identity in Northern Ireland, he was the first playwright to overtly question and subvert the Unionist notion of a singular Ulster Protestant identity. This thesis shows how, rejecting the traditional binary opposition between Catholics and Protestants, British and Irish, republican and loyalist, he was devoted to create a model of wholeness on stage that would finally lead the people of Northern Ireland to acknowledge their common identity

Pełny tekst źródłaThe objective of this work is to build a testing machine for prosthesis. The machine should be able to reproduce the same dynamic and kinematics conditions applied on the prosthesis during the normal use.Numbers of amputation, and causes of amputation were collected. Different types of prosthesis were classified according to the leg prosthesis per amputation height, passive and active prosthesis, differentiated by the nature of their actuator. Most of the testing machine for the prosthesis were studied form the technological and capability prospective. Determining all the limitations of most of existing testing machines, and the needs to develop a new machine to full fill these needs were developed. Then we studied and analyzed the dynamics of the human gait and run. The equations of motion by taking into consideration the masses and moments of inertia of skeletal segments. Most of the parameters of gait were extracted. In conclusion, we have the kinematic requirements of the human center of gravity to generate 6 DOF that the testing machine should carry out to emulate the normal human gait and run.Three designs were proposed to implement the testing machine; Articulated robot arm, Cartesian manipulator, and Stewart Platform (SP). After implementing the three solutions we found the most suitable solution is the SP attached with it an artificial active hip. We have chosen the hydraulic power as it is the most suitable actuation technique for our solution knowing the required actuation forces. To help in controlling the SP motion, a novel Closed-form solution of direct Geometric model for planer and 6-6 Stewart Platform using the rotary sensors instead of liner sensors as wanted to the hydraulic actuators was developed. Sensitivity analysis was studied for that solution, and analytical calculation for computing the workspace was also developed. The conclusion from this testing machine is that we can create all the dynamics of the human body, i.e. walking or running or going up and down stairs. The developed solution can carry testing procedures for either passive or active prothesis

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this Master of Science thesis a problem that has been a part of an ongoing project at ElektaInstrument has been examined and a solution has been suggested. The problem has been to develop a servo unit that is able to position an instrument in fivedegrees of freedom (three translational and two rotational) with high precision and that is able tohold that instrument in its position with high stiffness. The problems were solved by specifying the requirements of the servo unit and compare themwith existing concepts. The concepts were evaluated and the best concept, the Stewart-Goughplatform, was chosen and was thoroughly studied and analyzed. The analysis was conducted in two steps, the first step was to calculate the forces and the leglengths as a function of a position for a Stewart-Gough platform. The second step was to realizethe calculations and implement them in code and hardware to control physical motors and makethem behave as desired according to the calculations. The result of the first step was a MATLAB program that can calculate the inverse kinematicsand leg forces for any Stewart-Gough platform that is subjected to any force and momentumvector. The program can also iterate the calculations for a number of positions and loads for theplatform and display relevant extreme values. The result of the second step is a LabView program for simultaneous control of six motors andhardware that is able to control and drive the motors. The control system has successfully beentested on existing motors. The result of the thesis shows that the Stewart-Gough platform is a feasible solution that willmeet the specified requirements on the servo unit. During the thesis project all necessarycalculations for control of a Stewart-Gough platform has been made and the hardware needed tocontrol it has been developed. A mechanical solution has been developed simultaneously duringthe thesis project by engineers at Elekta Instrument AB and when the thesis project is complete afirst prototype of the Stewart-Gough servo unit is not far away.

Movement simulators are mechatronic systems that reproduce the main attitudes and movements of a vehicle. In this study are examined simulators based on 3 and 6 degrees of freedom mechanisms. In the second case, the mechanism is able to reproduce all the attitude angles (roll, pitch and yaw) and all the linear displacements (sway, heave and surge) with limitations, but with sufficient amplitude to enable the main movements associated with the vehicle. The use of linear displacement transducers in these articulated mechanisms introduce high inertia effects and increase the mass, decreasing the load/weight ratio and efficiency. Currently, the great development of the inertial central type sensors (IMU – Inertial measurement unit) increased the availability of these transducers on market and greatly reduced cost. Since this is a conjunct of triaxial accelerometers with triaxial gyrometers, sensors such as these ones can be used to determine the position and orientation in space of mechanisms with six degrees of freedom, such as the Stewart Platform. In this work it will be developed a methodology for modeling the kinematics of parallel mechanisms based on derivatives of their jacobian matrices. This methodology is evaluated in a planar parallel mechanism of three degrees of freedom and on a Stewart Platform. With the modeling methodology validated, a control strategy based on the use of an inertial unit type sensor for controlling the position, velocity and acceleration of these mechanisms is implemented. The simulations results indicate the possibility of using these sensors in these types of equipment and point to the need to evaluate this methodology in experimental tests.

This thesis addresses the on-line servo system design for a Stewart platform. The conventional servo design for the Stewart platform depends on the well-known inverse kinematics to calculate off-line the desired motion trajectory. The servo system then reflects the desired attitude by achieving the required leg lengths from the inverse kinematics calculation. This approach does not allow any on-line attitude feedback or any sudden change in the attitude command. In this thesis, we restructured the servo control scheme for the Stewart platform. The new design incorporated an incremental interpolator to receive on line servo command. The research also covers an exclusive operation range search on the allowable attitude as well as the allowable attitude speed. A near optimal speed approximation algorithm is then proposed. Experimental results show fast responses to the on-line joy-stick input commands. The operator is able to manipulate the platform at any attitude permitted by the work-space limitation.

This paper mainly explores on the stress analysis and safety factor of the key components used in the 6-DOF motion platform for traveling. It’s a spatial parallel motion mechanism that passing through the length of the six elastic support bars to accomplish the six different basic motions of the platform and its combinations. It’s also a set of multi-field technology in a motion control mechanism. The motion simulation platform can be driven through servo-hydraulic system or electric system. 6-DOF motion platform is mainly used in simulating different motions of motion mechanism such as flight motion simulation, vehicle driving simulation and marine vessel simulation. This study used the motion platform of Stewart platform as vehicle to discuss the stimulation of maintaining motion and coordination of motion analyzed in the change of motion and dynamics in a motion cycle under different platform bearings. First, it used the motion of SolidWorks to complete the kinematic analysis. Then, it re-input the information to the platform system according to the load and platform motion method and focusing on the material selections and geometric modifications of the key components using the stress condition of Workbench, a simulation system software, to promote the safety coefficient of the components to serve as a reference for the companies in developing an actual product. Last, it explored on the velocity and angular velocity analysis of the axles and motion platform according to the chosen law of motion to serve as references for the future motion and power researches.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis deals with the simulation of an orthopaedic device of osteogenesis, the 3d depiction concerning the constructional aspect as well as with the complete study of the movement with the planning of kinematics and inverse kinematics. More concretely the study concerns the category of a Stewart platform and the use of this platform as an exterior appliance for osteogenesis. Our first concern is the description of the phenomenon of osteogenesis and the comprehension of the operation and growth of bones (Chapter 2). Then we proceed in an analytic presentation of devices of osteogenesis that exist, with specific analysis of the operation of any kind that exists in the industrial field leading to the platform that we will study (Chapter 3). Following, we present the kinematical analysis of the Stewart platform as well as the study of the dynamic analysis of this fixator (Chapter 4). Taking into consideration all the above, we advance in the simulation of the Stewart platform, beginning with the planning of kinematical equations, continuing with the simulation in the Simmechanics and finally creating a 3d depiction of the device in the VRML toolbox of Matlab where we can watch the movement of the platform in the xyz space (Chapter 5). Finally, the conclusions and the prospects of this work are represented (Chapter 6).

Expanding the facilities of traditional Stewart platform, the thesis foucses on hexaglide Stewart platform.Firstly, the thesis analyses the kinematics and dynamics of hexaglide Stewart platform in general form, and solves the forward kinematic equation, inverse kinematic equation, dynamic equation, and inverse dynamic equation of the general form. Then we apply these equations to the specific form, which is include parallel hexaglide platform and triangle hexaglide platform. The hexaglide Stewart platform is a nonlinear system. For achieving the high precising tracking control of acceleration, the controller must have an inverse dynamic feedforward compensator. But it is needed to know system parameters before using the feedforward compensator. So we use an online parameters estimator to learn system parameters in real time. The computer simulation result that the parameters estimator can obtain the almost actual values of system parameters. It is concluded that the controller with the inverse dynamic feedforward compensator can achieve the high accelerating performance of the motion platform as wanted.
