The aims of study were identify the Morphological description and histological structure of pancreas gland in the Saw-scaled viper snake, (Echis carinatus scochureki). The study was conducted on 6 snakes collected from the city of Nasiriya in Dhi Qar province, Doped snakes was dissected to isolate the pancreas gland, and the histological slides prepared after samples fixation by fixative solutions, the routine stains Haematoxylin– Eosin were used. Morphological Description study showed that the pancreas gland was compact in type with one lobe, white-pink in colure. The pancreas Located at the level of the Gall bladder associated with it’s caudal side, The spleen is adjacent to pancreas completely in the dorsal side .and duodenum linked to pancreas in the ventral side. The pancreas is mixed gland (endocrine and exocrine) surrounded by a capsule which extends trabeculae with blood vessels inside the gland. The exocrine part represent by the acini which were consisted of pyramidal cells with basal spherical nuclei, attached with each other forming a lumen in the center of the acinus penetrated by centro-acinar cells (flat epithelial cells) Opening in intercalated duct which lined by simple squamous epithelial Tissue, leading to intralobular duct then to interlobular ducts, both lined by simple cuboidal epithelial tissue these ducts leading to the main pancreatic duct which Lined by Ciliated columnar epithelium, as well as, interlobular and Main ducts surrounded by dense connective tissue, While The endocrine part of the pancreas is represented by islets of Langerhans Scattered in the peripheral part of the stroma, varied in forms : Rounded, Oval, and Irregular in shape, also varied in their sizes: small, medium and large. Saw-scaled viper snake had giant islets prevalent in the region adjacent to the spleen.

Three new isotypic heteropolynuclear complexes, namely pentaaquacarbonatopentakis(glycinehydroxamato)nitratopentacopper(II)lanthanide(III) x-hydrate, [LnCu5(GlyHA)5(CO3)(NO3)(H2O)5]·xH2O (GlyHA2− is glycinehydroxamate, N-hydroxyglycinamidate or aminoacetohydroxamate, C2H4N2O2 2−), with lanthanide(III) (Ln III) = gadolinium (Gd, 1, x = 3.5), dysprosium (Dy, 2, x = 3.28) and holmium (Ho, 3, x = 3.445), within a 15-metallacrown-5 class were obtained on reaction of lanthanide(III) nitrate, copper(II) acetate and sodium glycinehydroxamate. Complexes 1–3 contain five copper(II) ions and five bridging GlyHA2− anions, forming a [CuGlyHA]5 metallamacrocyclic core. The Ln III ions are coordinated to the metallamacrocycle through five O-donor hydroxamates. The electroneutrality of complexes 1–3 is achieved by a bidentate carbonate anion coordinated to the Ln III ion and a monodentate nitrate anion coordinated apically to one of the copper(II) ions of the metallamacrocycle. The lattice parameters of complexes 1–3 are similar to those previously reported for an EuIII–CuII 15-metallacrown-5 complex with glycinehydroxamate of proposed composition [EuCu5(GlyHA)5(OH)(NO3)2(H2O)4]·3.5H2O [Stemmler et al. (1999). Inorg. Chem. 38, 2807–2817]. High-quality X-ray data obtained for 1–3 have allowed a re-evaluation of the X-ray data solution proposed earlier for the EuCu5 complex and suggest that the formula is actually [EuCu5(GlyHA)5(CO3)(NO3)(H2O)5]·3.5H2O.

Streszczenie:

Against the background of the global environmental crises, landscape ecology and related disciplines become increasingly important. Higher education should therefore contribute to the development of experts and potential stakeholders who have not only scientific skills but also interdisciplinary, intercultural, and communication skills to be applied in diverse contexts throughout the world. A 10-years program, funded by the Stemmler Foundation within the German Stifterverband supported studies abroad with excursions, summer schools, and workshops with students from the Bachelor, Master and doctoral level of various study programs. Students from 39 countries from all over the world benefitted from this program. In summer schools, particularly ecosystem restoration and nature conservation were addressed in lectures and during field trips as well as with students’ input of case studies from their country of origin. During international excursions to various countries, land use and culture, land-use history, and sustainable development were topics, with close interaction with local land users and stakeholders. Bridging the natural with the social sciences was achieved by involving respective experts as well as stimulate students to cross-disciplinary thinking and judgements. Master students were offered exploratory learning environments abroad within ongoing landscape ecological research projects for their thesis. Students’ feedback reflect an overall successful approach, which prepared students for the global environmental challenges with hard and soft skills.

Cilj je ovoga istraživanja bio ispitati interindividualne razlike u elektrodermalnim reakcijama na iznenadni podražaj. Za ispitivanje toga cilja korištene su različite metode procjene elektrodermalne reakcije. Procjena reakcije kao jednostavna razlika prosječne elektrodermalne razine prije i poslije podražaja uspoređena je s pristupima koji modeliraju krivulju elektrodermalne reakcije kroz vrijeme. Ispitana je povezanost takve reakcije, modelirane na različite načine, s upitničkim mjerama osobina ličnosti. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 97 studenata u dobi od 18 do 28 godina, većinom ženskoga spola (60 %). Svaki je ispitanik ispunio kratku mjeru neuroticizma i ekstraverzije iz Petofaktorskoga inventara ličnosti (BFI; John i sur., 1991, 2008) te je sudjelovao u jednome laboratorijskome mjerenju elektrodermalne reakcije na iznenadni događaj u trajanju od 8 minuta. Elektrodermalna aktivnost modelirala se na tri načina: 1) kao razlika u reakcijama prije i poslije podražaja; 2) uključujući i linearne efekte vremena; 3) uključujući i kvadratne efekte vremena. Ishodi takvoga modeliranja korelirani su s upitničkim mjerama neuroticizma i ekstraverzije. Rezultati su pokazali da uzimajući u obzir efekte protoka vremena sama procjena krivulje elektrodermalne aktivnosti značajno bolje pristaje stvarnim izmjerenim podacima. Isto tako, procjene elektrodermalne reakcije koje uzimaju u obzir efekte protoka vremena rezultiraju višim prosječnim razinama i većim interindividualnim varijabilitetom. Tako modelirana elektrodermalna reakcija (linearno i kvadratno) pokazuje nešto blago više i značajne pozitivne korelacije s neuroticizmom, iako su razlike između različitih načina modeliranja relativno male. Dobiveni rezultati podupiru ideju o većoj pobudljivosti vezanoj uz crtu neuroticizma. Iako su korelacije iznimno male, ne odstupaju od onih dobivenih u drugim istraživanjima, pogotovo jer je riječ o jednome mjerenju (Stemmler i Wacker, 2010). S obzirom na intenzitet reakcije, moguće je da pobudljivost vezana uz neuroticizam i nije specifično vezana za valenciju podražaja koji tu reakciju pobuđuje. Rezultati također pokazuju da se i na malome uzorku i korištenjem samo jednoga mjerenja, uz adekvatno modeliranje elektrodermalne aktivnosti, može detektirati povezanosti s osobinama ličnosti.

Central and southern Iraq in the area adjacent to and between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, known as Mesopotamian plain. The Mesopotamian plain is a geological depression filled with rivers sediments which covers the central and southern part of Iraq. It is plain of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, beings north of Baghdad and extends to southern Iraq, bordered by High Mountain in the east, desert from the west, and Persian Gulf from the south. An area of diverse physical features leading to rich biodiversity. An investigation of the status of snakes in central and southern Iraq was carried out from September 2013 to May 2015. A total of 138 specimens were collected and identified. Five families, 13 genera, and 17 species are represented, including Lyptotyphlopidae: Lyptotyphlops macrorhyncha (Jan, 1861); Boidae: Eryx jaculus jaculus (Linnaeus, 1758), Eryx jaculus familiaris Eichwald, 1831, Eryx cf. miliaris (Pallas, 1773); Lamprophiidae: Psammophis schokari (Forsskål, 1775), Malpolon insignitus (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1827), Rhagerhis moilensis (Reuss, 1834); Colubridae: Dolichophis cf. caspius (Gmelin, 1789), Dolichophis jugularis (Linnaeus 1785), Dolichophis cf. schmidti (Nikolsky, 1909), Spalerosophis diadema cliffordi (Schlegel, 1837), Platyceps ventromaculatus (Gray, 1834), Natrix tessellata (Laurenti, 1768); and Viperidae: Pseudocerastes persicus fieldi K. Schmidt, 1930, Macrovipera lebetina (Linnaeus, 1758), Cerastes gasperettii gasperettii Leviton et Anderson, 1967, and Echis carinatus Stemmler, 1969. According to the literature, 41 species of snakes were found in Iraq and according to the results of this survey 17 species and subspecies (~41%) of them occur in central and southern Iraq. Of these, 10 species are aglypha, 3 species opisthoglypha and 4 species proteroglypha. This study was conducted in 27 sampling localities and these project areas represent typical environment and climate of the central and southern regions of Iraq.

BackgroundPain significantly impacts life of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (1). Besides articular pain due to systemic inflammation, neuropathic pain (NeP) represents another challenge that can pose a considerable burden on the life of patients (2).ObjectivesTo investigate persisting pain in RA patients and to analyse NeP along with patient-reported outcomes (PROs).MethodsPAIN-CONTROL is a prospective, non-interventional study in rheumatology centres in Germany. Inclusion criteria were fulfilment of the 2010 ACR/EULAR RA classification criteria, disease duration ≤ 8 yrs, DAS28 > 3.2, SJC > 3, CRP normal or above reference range, and pain rating ≥ 50 (0-100 VAS). Eligible subjects had to be scheduled for escalation of anti-inflammatory treatment according to national guidelines. At wk 24 subjects were allocated to three subgroups given DAS28-CRP change and VAS pain: i) reference group: VAS pain < 50 with either DAS28 improvement > 1.2 or DAS28 ≤ 3.2, ii) non-responders: DAS28 improvement ≤ 1.2 and DAS28 > 3.2 with or without pain alleviation, iii) persisting pain: VAS pain ≥ 50 with either DAS28 improvement > 1.2 or DAS28 ≤ 3.2. For groups 1 and 2 end of study was at week 24, patients with persisting pain continued until wk 48. Patients were assessed for NeP using a score of ≥ 19 in the painDETECT questionnaire (PD-Q) (3). Pain-related PROs, i.e. the Rheumatoid Arthritis Impact of Disease Questionnaire (RAID) and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), were analysed along with demographic background information (1,4). Descriptive results are presented as mean (SD) or mean (SD) | Nvalid, as well as n (%) or n (%) | Nvalid, respectively.Results567 subjects were analysed with the following distribution: Reference group 337 (59.4%), non-responders 102 (18.0%), and persisting pain 128 (22.6%), of which 115 patients were available at wk 48. Subgroups showed similar demographic baseline characteristics but differed in PROs (Table 1). Until wk 24, proportion of patients with NeP indication decreased in the reference group (-19.8%) and slightly in non-responders (-6.0%) and persisting pain group (-9.5%). Non-responders showed the highest NeP proportion at wk 24 (35.0%) (Table 1). Of 115 patients with persisting pain at wk 24, 47 (40.9%) tested NeP negative at wk 48, 21 (18.3%) tested unclear, 28 (24.3%) were missing and 19 (16.5%) tested positive. Of the latter 9 patients (47.4%) still had persisting pain at week 48, while this was the case for 14 patients (29.8%) in the former group. 49 (42.6%) of 115 patients with severe persisting pain at wk 24 reported pain alleviation at wk 48 and fulfillment of reference group criteria. BackgroundThe anti-CD19 CAR T-cell products Axicabtagene Ciloleucel (Axi-cel) and Tisagenlecleucel have been approved by the EMA for the treatment of patients (pts) with relapse/refractory (r/r) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in August 2018. In clinical trials, both cell products induced ongoing complete responses in heavily pretreated patients. However, this activity was associated with significant toxicity. We evaluated the outcomes of DLBCL pts treated with Axi-cel and Tisagenlecleucel at the LMU Munich.Materials and MethodsCAR T cell product characteristics, toxicity and response rates of pts treated at our center between January and October 2019 were retrospectively assessed.ResultsAs of October 2019, 24 out of 34 r/r DLBCL pts (71%) with confirmed CAR T cell treatment indication were leukapheresed. Four apheresed pts died before CAR T cell therapy due to rapidly progressive disease. So far, 17 DLBCL pts have been treated. Median age was 60 years (range 19–74). ECOG was 0–1 in eleven, and 2–3 in six pts. Eight pts had undergone prior stem cell transplant (6 autologous, 2 allogeneic SCT). 13 pts received bridging chemotherapy between leukapheresis and CAR T cell transfusion. Only 6 (35%) of the 17 transfused pts would have met the inclusion criteria of the pivotal clinical trials (JULIET, ZUMA-1).CRS occurred in all pts (53% CRS °1, 29% °2 and 18% °3) with a median onset on day 2 (range days 0–7) and a median duration of 4 days (range 1–21). Tocilizumab was administered at least once in all pts. Ten pts (59%) experienced Immune Effector Cell associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome (ICANS, 30% °1, 10% °2, 30% °3, 20% °4 and 10% °5) with a median onset between day 7 and 8 and a median duration of 8 days (range 3–49). Cytopenia was significant following CAR T-cell treatment: all but one pts had neutropenia <500/µl for more than seven days.Response assessment four weeks after CAR T-cell transfusion was available for 15 pts.Objective response rate (ORR) at this early follow-up was 67%, with complete remission (CR) in four (27%) and partial remission (PR) in six pts (40%). Interestingly, ORR was higher in the four pts not receiving bridging chemotherapy between leukapheresis and CAR T-cell therapy than in pts in which bridging was applied (100% vs. 55%). Responders had significantly higher LDH levels at apheresis, start of lymphodepletion and CAR T-cell transfusion than non-responders.ConclusionsSince January 2019, the CAR T cell program has been successfully initiated at the LMU Munich, and 17 r/r DLBCL pts have been treated at our center to date. CAR T cells induced responses in heavily pretreated pts with response rates within the expected range. Toxicity was significant but manageable in most pts. Involvement of a multidisciplinary ImmunoTaskforce was a key element for adequate patient care. BackgroundRheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) are characterized by a deterioration of bone mass, bone microstructure and biomechanics [1, 2]. However, little evidence is available on the long-term evolution of these bone properties and the impact of autoimmunity, disease activity and targeted anti-inflammatory therapy.ObjectivesTo evaluate the longitudinal course of peripheral volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD), microstructure and biomechanics in patients with seropositive RA (RA+), seronegative RA (RA-) and PsA (i) by diagnosis (ii) disease activity and (iii) ever use of biologic/targeted synthetic (b/ts) DMARDs.MethodsRA+, RA-, PsA patients who had at least one high-resolution CT scan were included. Prospectively collected longitudinal data from the distal radius. vBMD, microstructure and biomechanical properties were assessed and data on treatments and disease activity (DAS-28) were collected. We described and summarized the time course of these measurements, using linear regression models as age and sex adjusted time-conditional means and mean differences by disease category, time-varying weighted average disease activity and intervening b/tsDMARD treatments.ResultsWe analyzed 946 scans from 412 patients (193 RA+, 68 RA-, 151 PsA) with a median CT follow-up duration of 24 months (IQR 0 to 47). (Table 1). Overall, bone quality showed a downward course over time. RA+ patients showed lower total and trabecular bone densities compared to patients with psoriatic arthritis throughout the time course. (Figure 1a). RA+ patients also showed decreasing trabecular number with increasing trabecular thickness, trabecular irregularity and trabecular separation over time in comparison to PsA (Figure 1 b) suggesting a gradual disappearance of the thinner trabeculae. We detected significant time/DAS-28 interactions in PSA patients indicating faster cortical bone loss over time with increasing DAS-28 (p interaction =0.049), in RA- patients showing faster trabecular bone loss over time with higher disease activity (p.interaction 0.044) and in RA+ patients for trabecular density (p interaction 0.038), bone stiffness (p interaction 0.022) and failure load (p interaction 0.034) indicating a faster deterioration of bone quality over time with increasing disease activity. Interestingly, RA+ patients exposed to b/tsDMARDs had numerically lower bone density compared to unexposed patients, whereas the temporal pattern suggested a more stable vBMD over time as opposed to a deteriorating pattern in the unexposed. However, the uncertainty in these analyses was large and none of the time-exposure interactions or pairwise differences over time between ever vs. never exposed categories were significant.ConclusionAutoimmunity impairs bone health over time and is particularly associated with impaired trabecular bone quality. Good control of disease activity in RA+, RA-, and PsA patients may be helpful in preventing bone loss and deterioration of bone microstructure, and biomechanics. BackgroundT cell bispecific antibodies (TCBs) are extremely potent T cell engagers, harboring a 2+1 format with one binder to the CD3ε chain and two binders to specific tumor antigens. Crosslinking of CD3 with tumor antigens triggers T cell activation, proliferation and cytokine release, leading to tumor cell killing.1 2 TCB treatment is sometimes associated with safety liabilities due to on-target on-tumor, on-target off-tumor cytotoxic activity and cytokine release. Patients treated with TCBs may experience a Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), characterized by fever, hypotension and respiratory deficiency and associated with the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-1β.3 Off-tumor toxicity may occur if target antigens are expressed in healthy cells, which may potentially result in tissue damages and compromise the patient‘s safety. Rapid pharmacological blockade of T cell activation and proliferation is a promising approach to mitigate these life-threatening toxicities. Tyrosine kinases such as SRC, LCK or ZAP70 are involved in downstream signaling pathways after engagement of the T cell receptor and blocking these kinases might serve to abrogate T cell activation when required. Dasatinib was identified as a potent candidate that switches off CAR T cell functionality.4 5MethodsUsing an in vitro model of target cell killing by human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, we assessed the reversible effects of dasatinib combined with CEA-TCB or HLA-A2-WT1-TCB on T cell activation and proliferation, target cell killing and cytokine release. At assay endpoints, T cell phenotype and target cell killing were measured by flow cytometry and supernatants were analyzed by Luminex to assess cytokine release. To determine the effective dose of dasatinib, the Incucyte system was used to follow kinetics of target cells killing by TCB in the presence of a dose response of dasatinib concentrations.Results100 nM dasatinib prevented TCB-mediated target cell killing when added in the system upon restimulation of activated T cells (figure 1). Dasatinib concentrations above 50 nM fully switched off target cell killing (figure 2) which was restored upon removal of dasatinib. These data confirm that dasatinib act as a potent and reversible on/off switch for activated T cells at pharmacologically relevant doses as they are applied in patients according to the label.6ConclusionsTaken together, we provide evidence for the use of dasatinib as a pharmacological on/off switch to mitigate off-tumor toxicities or CRS by T cell engaging therapies. With a grant from the National Board of Medical Examiners' Stemmler Fund, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and University of Central Florida (UCF) have introduced an intelligent formative assessment system (www.Osmosis.org) into the preclinical phase of their MD curricula. This web‐browser based and mobile application presents students with individualized regimens of study questions that aim to leverage the testing effect, spaced repetition and the mixed‐practice effect to aid long term retention. In the first semester of use, 90 of 120 UCF students tried to use the system answering an average of 136 items per individual though subsequent use of the system has continually decreased. We performed two initial focus groups with first year medical students to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the IFAS and what factors have affected students' decisions about what study aids to adopt. Groups of 4–5 students gave informed consent and the discussions were audio taped for transcription and thematic analysis. A preliminary coding of the audio files suggests that student decisions about what study aids to use in medical school are strongly affected by advice from upperclassmen in the early part of the first year. Near‐peer advice appears to have high face validity and is readily accepted. The data also suggested that concerns for lack of time and demand for efficiency weigh most heavily on student decisions about what tools to use. The data suggest that high quality orientation is needed when introducing new technology, with widespread consultation in the learning community, including faculty and upperclassmen. Psychological- and sociological-criminological research refers to, for example, cumulative risk factor models (e.g., Lösel & Bender, 2003) and Situational Action Theory (SAT; e.g., Wikström, 2006). The German longitudinal study “Chances and Risks in the Life Course“ (research project A2, Collaborative Research Center 882; e.g., Reinecke, Stemmler, & Wittenberg, 2016) focuses upon the development of antisocial behavior from a psychological and sociological point of view. Two-wave panel data of two cohorts (children and adolescents) were utilized to test the power of developmental path models investigating the development of antisocial behavior. Individual risk seems to have both direct and indirect influences on antisocial behavior, supporting the ideas of risk factor models; antisocial behavior might be the outcome of the interaction between propensity and criminogenic exposure, so there is evidence for SAT. Additionally, empathy seems to be related to both propensity and low parental supervision. Implications for the study of antisocial behavior in childhood and adolescence are discussed in line with developmental criminology.
