Streszczenie:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to preliminary attempt to deal with the phenomenon of business incubation from the industrial network perspective (Hakansson et al., 2009). The study draws on the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing (IMP) insights on new business formation and development in business networks as a starting point to shed light on the incubator–incubatee relationship content and development to see how this specific relationship influences the development process of a mid-stage business venture. The author believes that the IMP tradition – with its focus on interactions in business relationships – can positively contribute to implementing this neglected topic of incubation research. Design/methodology/approach The paper develops a longitudinal case study describing a mid-stage start-up venture initiating and developing a business relationship with a private business incubator. The relationship is explored through an abductive research design grounded in the IMP ARA model of analysis. The investigation focuses on how the incubation process unfolds through resources’ and actors’ interactions at different scales of analysis: the focal dyad, the incubation internal environment and the surrounding network. Particular “contextual” emphasis is put on new venture’s prior relationships. The study reveals three main findings. Findings Business incubation results as an emergent, and interdependent, process of interaction that develops among the incubator, the incubatee and external networked actors. In this perspective, the paper aims to re-discuss the role of the incubator in the process of forming and developing a new company considering its minor role in the wider developmental setting surrounding the incubatee. Research limitations/implications The paper introduces IMP concepts to business incubation debates, which can positively challenge and provide novel explanations about the recurring gaps of the literature. Further research should provide more detail on the role and functioning of interactive incubation in a business network context, addressing complex topics such as incubation performance and outcomes. Further research should also deepen and discuss the role of incubation relationships within the set of initial relationships of a new venture. Practical implications This analysis can be used to revise the general approach to the management and configuration of business incubators. Present insights could be helpful, in fact, to design more effective incubation offerings and models, as well as develop best managerial practices targeted at interacting with new venture especially in the resource dimension, both within and outside the incubation environment. Originality/value The incubation dyad, as a unit of analysis, has been scarcely addressed in incubation research. This is central for addressing the role of interactions, relationships and networks in incubation, all elements which have been too scarcely investigated. In addition, the paper deals with a private business incubator, a particular model which is in need for more research. Finally, the case of an established new venture which decides to enter a business incubator at a later stage of its development represents a peculiar case which does not fit classical research typically focused on new ventures “born and raised” entirely in incubation.

Abstract. Technology-based startup plays a vital role in improving the Indonesian economy. There are thousands of units of technology-based startups, though most of them are not adequately sustainable. The inadequacy is attributed to the fact that the products or services created are not in line with market needs and do not help understand business processes. Universities play an essential role in developing startups through business incubators to compete in the digital age. There is no conducive learning environment for business incubators in Indonesia, though the national standards are used. This research evaluates the learning process in a Technology Business Incubator in Bandung University using case study methods. Data is collected by performing in-depth interviews with three incubator managers and seven startup founders or tenants who have completed the incubation process. The business industry consists of education, design, printing, and fishery, while thehe interviews cover the process before, during, and after incubation, including the tenant's selection criteria and stages, learning processes in incubators and facilities, after graduation programs, and measurement of the impacts. The results show that the practices fit the ideal conditions, including training-focused and knowledge sharing session programs or skills, knowledge provisions, and expertise improvement programs for tenants, rental system facilities for graduates, and commercialization support. Furthermore, there are opportunities to improve several aspects, including developing tenant admission selection criteria, effective learning approaches, coaching, networking, and broader funding, graduation criteria, monitoring for graduates, and a more comprehensive range of impact measurement. This research helps guide business incubators to prioritize developing aspects of services. Moreover, evaluation using the mixed method is open for further investigation. <em>The Design Thinking approach as a method of problem solving and product innovation is well known in business, management and entrepreneurship. However, various design thinking models created by individual researcher and corporations often confuse users about which model to use. This research was conducted with the aim of observing the suitability of five selected design thinking models to support the development of startups in a business incubator. The research applies qualitative descriptive method using a case study of PT. Jiwa Gelora Juara (PT-JGJ) startup development at the Bakrie University’s UBpreneur business incubator. It observes the design thinking process in the pre-incubation, incubation and post incubation stages. The research findings show that each design thinking model has its own strengths and weaknesses in a certain situation, but most of the models are more suitable implemented in the new product/process development phase. To support the startup’s growth stage, other management tools are needed.</em>

The focus of this study was to determine how business incubation services accelerate the growth of start-ups in Nairobi City County, Kenya. The specific objectives were to examine the effect of networking services, physical incubation infrastructure, management advice, financial resources, and business planning on the growth of startups. The theories of the firm, stochastic theory, social network theory, real option theory and trait theory of entrepreneurship anchored the study variables. A descriptive research design was used, and a sample of 227 respondents was selected using proportionate stratified and simple random sampling techniques from a target population of 567 startups that had been in an incubation process. A questionnaire was used to collect primary data, and the data was analyzed using descriptive and regression statistical techniques. The findings indicated that there was a significant and positive relationship between networking services, physical infrastructure, management advice, financial resources, and business planning and the growth of startups. In order to have access to physical infrastructure, startups are encouraged to join startup associations like the Association of Startups and SME Enablers of Kenya, the Association of Countrywide Innovation Hubs, and other independent incubation facilities. A clear act governing startups can offer tax incentives to startups, reducing costs in the form of financing and providing tax breaks to startup investors, improving their financial standing. Incubator owners are encouraged to take startups through business planning courses that are critical to ensuring they scale up their businesses. Finally, through the triple helix model, business incubators can partner with universities and government agencies to create synergy instead of competing among themselves.

Although a large body of empirical research focuses on listed companies, less is done regarding small and medium enterprises. Under the authorities’ support, Taipei Exchange (TPEx) started Go Incubation Board for Startup and Acceleration Firms (GISA) in January 2014. This research yields insight into earnings management activities around seasoned equity offerings (SEO) based on GISA firms in Taiwan and the effectiveness of external corporate governance. Data for the study come from the GISA Market Observation Post System of TPEx and Taiwan Economic Journal. The results reveal that GISA firms with the incentives of raising funds are prone to upward accrual-based earnings management during SEO to avoid long-term negative consequences. Especially, firms with paid-in capital more than TWD (NT$) 30 million, higher fundraising amounts, or smaller-sized firms, tend to increase discretionary accruals. Finally, Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and Big 4 accounting firms effectively serve as external corporate governance on mitigating earnings management. This study makes some contributions to GISA literature. First, expands the prior research, the different earnings management level before and listed on GISA, to the firms listed on GISA. Second, link up the relationship between the SEO and earnings management of GISA in Taiwan. Finally, it provides several contributions to regulators, for instance, the effectiveness of the counseling system provided by CPAs or Big 4 accounting firms. Also, the CPAs and Big 4 accounting firms serve as supervisors on corporate governance.

A stream of research available in the literature focuses on startup success factors, although there is a lack of consensus in determining what these factors are. In general, there are two critical groups of success factors, organizational and entrepreneurial, both considered to be integral parts of internal startup environment. Since the perception of early-stage (incubation stage) and growth stage (post incubation stage) startup entrepreneurs differ significantly they tend to perceive important success factors distinctively. As a result, attributes of success differ considerably. This paper aims at capturing internal startup environment as it is considered to be crucial in shaping startup’s success in contrast to external environment that is more remote and (usually) not manageable. Primary data were collected using an online survey questionnaire and quantitative approach was used; data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney U test. The final research sample consisted of 70 startups and the findings indicate that the perception of internal environment and its contribution to overall success differs significantly from the perspective of early-stage and growth stage startup entrepreneurs. Out of analysed internal factors, statistically significant differences were identified for prior experience in starting the company and self-confidence (individual’s/entrepreneur’s category factors) and internal startup organization and team-level competencies (organizational category factors). The contribution of this research is evident in identifying important internal factors that determine startup’s success (that aspiring startup founders can benefit from) and providing an insight into the startup community in Croatia, thus contributing to a scarce empirical literature on the topic available. Limitations of the research include sample size and subjective assessment of the success factors, so recommendations for future research include repeating the research on a larger sample, covering the international level and widening a set of key-performance indicators that can be assessed at a higher level of rigour with objective metrics.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide the initial evidence on the role of business incubation (BI) in supporting startups and BI practices from developing communities in Uganda. Design/methodology/approach This study is cross-sectional and a triangulation of quantitative and qualitative data were used. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire and an interview guide from 28 incubators. Findings Results indicate that business incubators play different roles in communities such as business assistance, networking, provision of necessary infrastructure and provision of an enabling environment. Furthermore, BI practices were identified such as networking, human resource, tenant management and assessment practices. Research limitations/implications This study was cross-sectional and thus monitoring changes in behavior of incubatees overtime was not possible. The study was conducted in Uganda, and it is possible that the results of this study can be generalized to developing communities with environments similar to that of Uganda. Practical implications The results are important for business incubators in improving the sustainability of startups in Uganda. The study will enable business incubators to understand their role and incubator practices in as far as supporting small and medium-sized enterprises is concerned. Originality/value While there have been a number of studies on BI, this study provides an initial empirical evidence on the role of BI and BI practices using evidence from developing communities in Uganda.

Diploma or Dropout - it is argued, whether graduation is more important than a successful startup. Students drop either college or their ideas. A presented exploratory study about the incubation of technological startups among students tries to solve this contradiction. The curricula business incubation as the educational discipline inside of the curriculum was offered in opposition to the extracurricular activities of students. There is not a lot of data about this model of student incubation outside of the university's entrepreneurship center and every contribution is valuable. The used research method is Qualitative studies, so the surveys among students are conducted during and after the incubation process on the educational discipline "Startup & Technological Entrepreneurship". At the end of this research, the framework was proposed, a set of actions, for helping students to go all the way from Idea to Product and Techno-Business. The framework is tested on a limited number of students in several universities in developing countries. The experiment is about embedding the syllabus into the Curriculum and measuring of achievements of students. The course is supposed to be elective and only students wishing to develop something are accepted. Later, interviews are conducted with two groups of students: those who passed the offered course and those who tried to develop startups independently. The final aim is to prove whether the inter-curricular framework works and how it overperforms other similar extra-curricular solutions.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the startup models adopted by entrepreneurs in launching platform enterprises, and the effectiveness of business incubators across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).Design/methodology/approachData reflecting origin, models, services, ownership and other variables were collected on over 600 platforms and 196 incubators, and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.FindingsMarket portfolio of the platform startups is dominated by independent models, as incubators and accelerators were found to be inadequate in platform establishment within the region in terms of the services rendered to incubatees. The results also indicate that private ownership still dominates the startup ecosystem with a scant presence of public participation and almost a complete absence of public-private partnerships.Research limitations/implicationsThis exploratory study is constrained by a limited access to information on the platform ecosystem within the SSA region, curbing the scope of empirical work; but serves as a foundation for further investigations within the domain.Practical implicationsThe paper highlights the imperative for African Governments to make conscious efforts in driving enabling policies that will help bridge the gaps identified in facilitating the development of the region’s emergent platform economy.Originality/valueThe paper empirically elucidates the limited availability of critical resources necessary in supporting the successful development and growth of platform startups; and helps explain why the platform ecosystem within the region, though very active in the last decade, has not been laden with landmark and scaled innovations.

Pre-incubation of software startup is a training and coaching activity to improve understanding of knowledge and skills in developing software. The problem that occurs between education in universities and business incubators is the gap, namely the lack of mastery of knowledge and skills in developing software. Learning problems amid a pandemic tend to be one-way. Teachers provide more one-way information and assignments to students without feedback, resulting in boredom for students studying online. Therefore, one solution is given through the startup project leadership (SPL) program. This activity was held on October 31 - November 27, 2020, at three elementary schools: SDN Mangkura III Makassar, SDN 234 Barambang II Maros Regency, and SD IT Asshiddiq Bone Regency, involving as many as 40 students. The results of the activity can be concluded that the SPL Program is a collaborative action of teachers in innovating to create quality education in the pandemic era consisting of 3 stages: Incubation which is the initial planning carried out by designing joint activities with students and parents related to the problems faced by students and solutions that will be applied; Startup which is an active activity for program realization agreed at the incubation stage; and Mobilization which is the final stage through process reflection, evaluation, and conclusion drawing, as well as follow-up to the results of program realization that have been carried out. The implementation of SPL is running well according to the time and targets that have been determined and can increase learning productivity during pandemics.

This study establishes strategies for the science and technology park (STP) operators to develop the support their hosted companies/startups (HCs) need to improve their performance at different stages of maturity. Unlike most of the research concentrated on the STP's viewpoints or used the after-the-fact results to create the policy guidelines for the operators, our paper uses the opposite approach by directly asking the HCs regarding what they need. From our survey results, we have identified two different strategies for improving HCs' performance. A comprehensive internal incubation network is necessary for any startup in a relatively mature development stage but with short settled years. On the other hand, a robust external incubation network is crucial for small-size startups in a low level of development stage but with long-settled years at STPs. We hope that the methodology underpinned in this study could open a new window for future research to better aid HCs in an STP.

In a broad sense, the author’s study was preconditioned by the problem of arranging the efficient system for positioning of the enterprises of venture entrepreneurship acceleration and incubation that today is quite a controversial aspect. At the same time, for today there are no studies and publications related to the identification of approaches to the positioning of clusters of the enterprise innovative activity acceleration that will make it possible to find the most efficient approaches to acceleration. Therefore, this paper is aimed at identifying the basic approaches in the positioning of startup acceleration and incubation institutes. Methodology. The study is based on the algorithms of cluster analysis. Having identified the key parameters of the analysed institutions, using the “Statistics7” program package, we have combined the input data to address the challenge of cluster analysis, consisting in classification breakdown, which meets the criterion of optimality. Proceeding from the research target, the rule “Single Linkage” was chosen as the key function. According to this rule, there are two objects, being the closest to each other. At the next step, the object, which has the maximum degree of similarity with one of the cluster objects, joins them. This method is also called the method of the closest neighbour as the distance between two clusters is defined as the distance between the closest two objects in different clusters. 1 - Pearson is chosen as a degree of distance as far as the given data cannot be presented as points in k-dimensional space. Results. The first part of this research contains a justification of the positioning indicators among the analysed startup accelerators, which were chosen for cluster analysis according to functioning models. In the second part, we consider the distinction of the functioning models of the obtained clusters and the features, typical for every enterprise, which has been involved in the study. Proceeding from the calculation of the configuration of distances of cluster formations using the method of k-means while approaching the process of startup acceleration and incubation, we have identified the aspect, which is of primary importance for the formation of resultative startup-accelerator. Practical implications. The obtained results make it possible to optimize the resources in the process of creation and positioning of startup accelerators and incubators. Value/originality. Based on the developed configuration of the distances of cluster formations using the method of к-means in approached-to-startup acceleration and incubation process, we have found out the best practices in the area of venture business acceleration.

Streszczenie:
Using the Risk Analysis for Initial Needs (RAIN) planning model and its resource-based audit (RBA) tool to support the creation of a time zero startup business plan will improve the perceived value of the startup plan to founders and stakeholders by identifying gaps between the needs and availability of the needed resources at time zero. The case has been made that successful startups are beneficial to all stakeholders in the community, while startups that fail to sustain create significant costs, both actual and opportunity, for both themselves and the community. Depending on the source and the time frame referenced, emerging business failure rates range from 50% to 80% (BLS, 2016). This figure demonstrates the disappointing inefficiency of startups. What is not clear is whether the high failure rate, which has come to be accepted, is necessary. The creation of RAIN was motivated by the desire to seek a solution to the business problem of continuously high failure rates through improved startup business planning. RAIN improves the startup business plan by replacing traditional environmental auditing with resource-based auditing (RBA), and focusing on sustainability and scalability during the post-launch Incubation period. Using the RAIN startup planning model at time zero and throughout the early stages of the business lifecycle should improve sustainability and encourage founders to embrace developing and using startup plans. Experts agree that entrepreneurial enterprises are creators of economic growth. In fact, a recent study by Guzman and Stern looked at the attributable growth for a community based on the quality of the startups (Guzman & Stern, 2016). It was found that “a doubling of the entrepreneurial quality predicts an increase of 6.8% in GDP in 11 years” (Frick, 2016). This study emphasizes the need for more successes, rather than more startups. “We’ve long known that new businesses matter to the economy and that it’s a small group of fast-growing firms that matter most, because of the jobs and innovation they bring” (Frick, 2016). Founders, investors, creditors, incubators, government programs, and entrepreneurial education programs all benefit from improving the sustainability rate of startups. These benefits include job creation, debt default minimization, and expanded economic growth through the multiplier effect of the surviving business entity (Guzman & Stern, 2016). Improving the success rate of new businesses through improved time zero planning will have positive consequences for the community and economy.

The roles and positive impacts of business incubators, including virtual ones, in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in multiple industries, and their consequent contributions to fostering sustainable economic growth and social development, have been highly advocated in the extant literature. Nonetheless, several authors highlight the urgent need to further carry out research concerning these structures’ operation models by involving end users, since knowledge related to this phenomenon remains scant. This study sets out to convey the third phase of a broader research and development project following a design science research methodology. Ultimately, this contributes to the field by proposing a new virtual business incubator model with immediate practical applicability. This model was cocreated and validated with 23 incubator managers and startup founders from 15 business incubation centers during focus group sessions and organized into 8 dimensions concluded as fundamental in future digital incubation programs. Moreover, this study offers knowledgeable guidelines to support academics, practitioners, organization managers, or other professionals interested in building and running virtual business incubators. The main strengths and weaknesses of the proposed model are also highlighted, and several recommendations are provided to surpass the expected challenging stages of its implementation.

Startups contribute significantly to the economic development of a country. Despite their importance and promising future, they are extremely fragile, mainly for their lack of tangible and intangible resources. Since this can be obtained through an incubation process, business incubators (BIs) could have a significant impact on the survival rate of startups. Once defined their core structure and value proposition, there are other players, such as venture capitalists who could guarantee the funds necessary to make the startup’s business grow over time. Drawing on the resource-based view theory, this research explores whether some BIs could represent a certification of startup quality for venture capitalists (VCs). Specifically, we investigate whether some specific attributes of BIs increase the probability that a VC funds startups after being incubated; to this purpose, we carry out an experiment on a European sample of VCs. Results demonstrate that some characteristics of the BI can produce a sort of certification effect to the incubated startups, increasing the probability of being funded by VCs.

Startup companies are expected to become the new engines of economic growth through the rise of new innovation-based entrepreneurs. The Penta Helix framework is widely used as a framework to analyse factors related to the development of innovation-based companies. The use of the Penta Helix framework as the unit of analysis is considered to be relevant because this framework offers a comprehensive perspective and is in line with the economic development innovation and knowledge-based startups. However, there is a lack of research that has been conducted that analyse the nature of support that can be given to startups at their early-stage of creation using the Penta Helix framework that consists of five stakeholders namely Academicians, Businessmen, Government, Communities. This study aims to propose a conceptual model about the nature of support needed by startups in order to survive in their initial stages by using the Penta Helix Framework. This study is a qualitative one using the Focus Group Discussion method, in which participants are made of six early stages technology-based startup founders and CEOs, who were gathered to conduct several discussions regarding the topics. Our results show that obstacles faced by startups include among other: difficulties in obtaining qualified yet affordable workforce in facing existing competitors, difficulties in increasing sales, difficulties in managing product development costs, no adequate support from the government, and ineffective incubation programs. A model that consists of lists of support that startups need, was depict as main contribution from the discussion, named Penta Helix support for startups. This model offers comprehensive practical guide for policy makers to support startups from five perspectives.

There has been limited study on the role of the startup ecosystem in social entrepreneurship. This article addresses the gap by applying a theoretical framework of startup ecosystem to two social enterprises originating from a Singapore university, examining how they engage with stakeholders to create social impact. WateRoam Pte Ltd is a water innovation startup that deploys cost-effective water filtration solutions to rural communities and disaster-hit locations. Tware is a wearable technology startup with a range of therapeutic products for individuals with autism, stress or anxiety. The two cases provide insights on the ecosystem for social ventures in Singapore. The Finance domain is identified as a potential area of improvement, as there is uncertainty on the appropriate growth trajectory for funding. University incubation and mentor networks are found to be pivotal in extending the Markets domain. Finally, this study highlights the Supports domain in the form of university R&D facilities and accelerator programmes that have been instrumental in strengthening connections. Extending beyond the university context, it is evident that infrastructural resources in the ecosystem are crucial. Policymakers may draw on the experience of countries, like Israel, which have successfully built such support facilities to nurture innovation-based social enterprises.

Abstract. Technology Business Incubation Center (TBIC) Puspiptek is a public sector organization that provides business incubation services to startup companies. Communicating the identity of the organization to stakeholders is one effort that can be done to build its own appeal compared to other organizations. This study aims to provide an overview and evaluate the TBIC Puspiptek corporate branding activities through alignment of the vision-culture-image (VCI) model. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis with a qualitative approach, while the research data were obtained through interviews with TBIC management and documentation studies. The results of the study mentioned that TBIC Puspiptek has tried to harmonize its goals, culture and image even though there are still gaps between these components. TBIC has sought to harmonize its identity through the provision of services that foster a spirit of technopreneurship, build a positive communication climate and build good budget management. As for the gaps that arise due to less intense communication with stakeholders, the culture of public sector organizations that are less suited to the private sector as well as the irrelevance of the competencies of incubator managers. The conclusion that can be drawn is that public sector organizations involved in business competition need to do corporate branding in order to have their own appeal compared to other organizations. ABSTRACT: Much needed services & resources for the progression of a business are presented by Business Incubation Centers (BIC) for beginner incubates. A successful business incubate would contribute positively in the region by forming original technologies and reducing unemployment(1, 2). The set up of Business Incubation Centers (BICs) is supported by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan which offers related services for young incubates, contributing to successful and freestanding companies in the country(3). The objectives is to encourage self-employment among the young, commercializing research originating from universities(4), creating alliance between Industry and Academia, & contributing to economic growth by employing & forming viable firms(2). HEC has established thirty business incubation centers in public sector universities of major cities in Pakistan. Among the thirty universities, BICs have been set up in two universities related to medicine and allied health sciences namely Khyber Medical University Peshawar and Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi. The focus of this paper is to highlight this under studied area and center of attention are the startup incubates from health industry. Many ground-breaking inventive projects enlisted on HEC’s website are available for commercialization of research, all originating from engineering and technology, none of which stems from medical universities. Although integrating medicine with technology would positively impact the society many fold yet it appears to be a ground unfamiliar by medical faculty(5) Assessing comments of medical faculty confirms their estrangement regarding BIC(2). There is a lack of knowledge among the faculty concerning BIC; much work has to be done in encouraging medical faculty which will result in positive contributions. Informal surveys and observations that we conducted further illustrate the aforementioned point and confirm inadequate knowledge of faculty and students regarding BICs, their objectives and purpose of formation. BIC in health industry appear to be a foreign ground passing unnoticed by faculty today. One can find many startups emerging in the field of health worldwide from internet sources.(6) In Pakistan many innovative business projects originating from the fields of IT, environmental sciences, agriculture, engineering technology etc have been registered by HEC and are ready for commercialization. Khyber Medical University Business Incubation Center KUBIC is providing an effective platform interconnecting commercial industries and investors inviting multiple incubates across the province to bring forth innovative ideas in the field of health. The future of business incubation appears bright as there are rich opportunities of research today despite the challenges they face as analyzed by past three decades of emerging practice. 5

The ICAR-BPD trainees were mainly attemptingto obtain government employment and were often unaware of the training and otherresources available to help them establish their own enterprise. Almost all of the traineesattributed their progress to the RUDSET Institute’s EDP teaching.

Case overview/synopsis Founded in early 2018, Girlythings was a young startup spearheaded by Tanzila Khan. It aimed at not only improving the availability of sanitary products in the emerging Pakistan market but, over and above, also removing the stigma attached to the topic of menstruation in the society. While the startup was still nestled at an incubation center, the protagonist faced the utmost challenge of deciding the fate of the venture due to the taboo nature of the product. This case is a rich description of the stigma that prevails on the topic of women health in conservative societies like Pakistan. It will help students appreciate the idiosyncrasies of operating in emerging markets and spearheading ventures that deal with sensitive issues. Complexity academic level This case is geared toward undergraduate students enrolled in courses of strategy, strategic marketing and entrepreneurship. Purpose – The development of a model to measure and assess the performance of start-ups in a standard incubation process, based on 99 critical success factors identified as the most relevant for the context.Design/methodology/approach – A total of three sequential steps were developed to reach the objectives proposed (Problem overview; modeling; and usage). The model was tested on four development stage incubation processes start-ups and three maturity stage incubation processes start-ups, located at the Technological Incubator of Santa Maria (ITSM).Findings – After the modeling phase, compromising results were found for only one developed stage start-up evaluated. Meanwhile, for the maturity stage, all three evaluated start-ups are competitive. To support the strategic decision-making process, the scores obtained were stratified to diagnose which perspective may compromise the performance of each start-up.Originality/value – This research proved to be adaptable to the decision context, thus being amenable to be used in different scenarios. The model presented in this work is composed of a systematic tool suitable to support the continuous improvement and learning processes for incubated start-ups, in specific to measure and assess the performance of start-ups.

Streszczenie:
The exploration of entrepreneurship has become a priority for scientific research in recent years. Understanding this phenomenon is particularly important for the transformation of entrepreneurship into action, which is a key factor in early-stage entrepreneurial activity. This gains particular relevance in the university environment, where, in addition to the conventional teaching and research functions, the entrepreneurial university operation based on open innovation, as well as the enhancement of entrepreneurial attitudes of researchers and students, are receiving increased attention. This study is based on a survey conducted among students attending a Hungarian university of applied science in Western Transdanubia Region who have demonstrated their existing entrepreneurial commitment by joining a national startup training and incubation programme. The main research question of the study is to what extent student entrepreneurship intention is influenced by the environment of the entrepreneurial university ecosystem and the support services available at the university. A further question is whether these factors are able to mitigate the negative effects of internal cognitive and external barriers by enhancing entrepreneurial attitudes and perceived behavioural control. The relatively large number of students involved in the programme allows the data to be analysed using SEM modelling. The results indicate a strong covariance between the perceived university support and environment among students. Another observation is the distinct effect of these institutional factors on perceived behavioural control of students.

An increasing concern about the usage of chemical additives in meat products has resulted in the use of natural ingredients instead of chemical additives in meat products. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of incubation period on the physicochemical characteristics of meat products cured with spinach and starter culture containing Staphylococcus carnosus. The pH, color, TBARS lipid oxidation, volatile basic nitrogen, residual nitrite content, and microbial number in cured pork loin were determined by incubating it with spinach and starter culture for the following durations: 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, and 48 h. The pH and TBARS values of cured pork loin incubated with spinach and starter culture decreased in a time-dependent manner. An increase in the incubation time from 3 to 48 h resulted in a significant increase in the redness and volatile basic nitrogen content. The residual nitrite content was observed to be maximum in samples from the I48 group followed by the control (+), preconverted nitrite group, and I24 groups. Thus, we found that incubation with spinach and starter culture for 24 h yields a good-quality cooked sliced cured pork loin.
