Males of Haplochromis burtoni have ritualized fights with physical contact and they assess the relative persistence of their opponents by their reactions, following their own behavior patterns. For this the fighter has to know which reactions have a typical winner or loser meaning and thus which reactions could point at more or less persistence. I evaluated the meanings out of a preliminary data sample of 27 fights by calculating information values, with a formula developed, for each reaction in each fighting stage. In general, it seems that Displaying Long, that is, being Rammed for a long time has a typical winner meaning, indicating more persistence. The hypothetical reactions were tested with a second sample. In 20 out of 23 fights the number of typical winner reactions of the winner is greater, up to the last fighting stage. Because this difference is only in the last fighting stage significant, I postulated a "Critical Fighting Stage". The fighter comes into this stage when he feels a little weariness. From this stage on, and not before, his assessment of his opponent should become relevant for him. A fighter with this strategy has three advantages : 1. Each bluff will be ineffective if it does not happen in the "Critical Fighting Stage". Therefore, a fighter should by no means show he is in this stage. 2. A fighter cannot give any information about how long he will fight, because he does not know it himself. 3. He does not know it himself because he adapts his persistence to the fighting of his opponent. ` The results brought the following new aspects to sociobiological hypotheses: 1. A bimodal function of the ESS nearly agreed with the frequency distribution of the duration of 50 fights. I tried to describe the suitable penalty function on the basis of my observations. 2. I found that the assessment improved with the fighting stages. Therefore, the information acquired in each stage is not constant. 3. The concept of the "Critical Fighting Stage" allows for the best adaptation of a fighter's persistence to the fighting of his opponent.

Introduction. The article considers a systematic approach to assessing the effectiveness of the preparation and use of fire-fighting vessels. Using the Pattern method, a study of the use of a fire-fighting boat for solving problems of extinguishing fires on water transport was conducted. Goal and objectives. The purpose of the study is to improve the methodology for determining the effectiveness of the preparation and use of fire-fighting vessels according to the selected evaluation criteria, with the determination of the impact of each criterion on the overall effectiveness of fire extinguishing. Methods. In the article, the process of evaluating the effectiveness of the preparation and use of fire-fighting vessels can be divided into two stages. At the first stage, a verbal presentation of the research task is carried out with the identification of the most "weak" training measures and during the application of fire-fighting vessels using the Pattern Method. At the second stage of the study, an assessment of the state of the identified "weak" measures is carried out with the definition of measures to improve the technical readiness of the material part or organizational and technical measures during the operation of fire-fighting vessels. Results and discussion. The author obtained a particular analytical solution for improving the efficiency of operation of fire-fighting vessels for the case of using a fire-fighting boat. A method for calculating the evaluation criteria is proposed. Conclusions. Thus, the proposed modification of the model of preparation and application of fire-fighting vessels consists in the representation of organizational and technical processes in the form of a logical "tree of goals". The directions of further research in terms of the development of the results obtained in the analysis of the operation of fire-technical equipment on fire-fighting vessels and fire-fighting vessels themselves are determined. AbstractDetailed contest behaviour of the Japanese horned beetle, Trypoxylus dichotomus septentrionalis, was examined in the field. Male-male interactions have three sequences, and in these sequences four behavioural stages were recognized. After two males encountered (Stage 1), they always faced and shoved each other with their horns (Stage 2: 'Shoving'). Then, if the horn length or body size difference between the contestants was large, one male began to retreat and was chased by the other male, and the interactions terminated (Stage 4A: 'Chasing'). If the difference was small, the interactions proceeded to the escalated fighting stage (Stage 3: 'Pry'), in which two males put their horns under their opponents and push and try to flip them up each other. The interactions, which proceeded to Stage 3, have two ways of termination. If the body size difference was large, one male was flipped up by the other male, and the interactions was terminated quickly (Stage 4B). If the difference was small, the interactions was not terminated so quickly and continued until one male began to retreat, proceeding to Stage 4A. It is suggested that males with shorter horns relative to the opponents avoid the escalated fighting stage, 'Pry', after perceiving the horn length difference during 'Shoving', which would be an appraising behaviour. Thus, 'Shoving' is the most important stage among all the interaction processes in that the highest proportion of judgement is made here. The great allometric variation of horn length would presently function more greatly for enhancing the efficiency of mutual appraisal than that in actual fighting.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a chronic liver disease which is closely associated with components of the metabolic syndrome. Its high clinical burden results from the growing prevalence, inherent cardiometabolic risk and potential of progressing to cirrhosis. Patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease show variable rates of disease progression through a histological spectrum ranging from steatosis to steatohepatitis with or without fibrosis. The presence and severity of fibrosis are the most important prognostic factors in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This necessitates risk stratification of patients by fibrosis stage using combinations of non-invasive methods, such as composite scoring systems and/or transient elastography. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment is advised, centred on amelioration of cardiometabolic risk through lifestyle and pharmacological interventions. Despite the current lack of licensed, liver-targeted pharmacotherapy, several promising agents are undergoing late-phase clinical trials to complement standard management in patients with advanced disease. This review summarises the current concepts in diagnosis and disease progression of non-alcoholic liver disease, focusing on pragmatic approaches to risk assessment and management in both primary and secondary care settings.

Introduction. The article deals with improvement of the differential model of training for decision-making when setting standards of training with fire-fighting equipment. Using a differential training model, the study of the setting training standards with new models of technology and fire-technical equipment was carried out. Goals and objectives. The aim of the study is to improve the training model for calculating the training standards and predicting the number of approaches to ensure the successful development of the training in the framework of the management of professional training of firefighters. Methods. The process of obtaining new scientific results can be divided into three stages. At the first stage, when improving the training model, methods for solving differential equations with separable variables were used. At the second stage of the study, the Student's criterion and elements of probability theory were used in the development of training standards with fire-fighting equipment. At the third stage, the Pearson determination criterion was used in the process of assessing the adequacy of the results. Results and discussion. The authors obtained a partial analytical solution of the general differential training model for the case of linear dependence of the training function on the results of the exercise. A method for calculating standards for exercises with fire-fighting equipment based on truncated data is proposed and the results of calculating standards are compared with the generally accepted method for setting standards for exercises with fire-fighting equipment. A method has been developed for determining the values of the function of training based on the results of repeated exercises, taking into account the training factor. Conclusions. Thus, the proposed modification of the training model consists in establishing a linear dependence of the results of the exercises on the number of approaches, which allows planning actions for the successful implementation of exercises with fire-fighting equipment. The directions of further research in terms of the development of the results obtained in the management of professional training of personnel in fire departments have been determined. The Catholic revival in the sixteenth century coincides with the opening of the commedia dell’arte stage to women, leading to progress for female performers. However, the presence of women in the commedia dell’arte immediately shows contradictions and disagreements with the teaching of the Catholic Church. At this time, women were depicted as an emblem of Catholic morality: they were supposed to be devoted mothers and wives and their life was confined within the domestic household. In my paper, I analyze how difficult it was for women to prevail against religious and cultural prejudices and gain respect and recognition as actresses. My aim is to point out how the presence of women on the stage brought about a revolution for women’s role in Western culture offering a freedom of expression against traditional moral patterns and giving female performers a chance to demonstrate cleverness and professionalism.

The initial fire-fighting facility design plan may need to be changed during the construction of fire-fighting facilities because of alterations in the architectural design or the flexibility of the site situation. The difference between the 'design drawings at the stage of consenting for building approval' (Original design drawings) and the 'design drawings at the stage of consenting for use approval' (Completion drawings) ultimately leads to changes in the construction cost and in the performance of the fire-fighting facility. Therefore, to secure the fire safety of buildings and prevent human casualties, relevant case analyses and consequent institutional and systematic supplementation are necessary. In this study, six recently completed buildings were selected as target sites, the application rate of each fire-fighting facility in the initial design was analysed, and the need for institutional supplementation was suggested. As a result, owing to the design change, the construction cost and net construction cost could be reduced by up to 19% compared to those based on the original design. In particular, In particular, the sprinkler facility was found to match only 78.7% of the original design drawing in the completion drawing, showing the largest rate of design change among fire-fighting facilities.

BACKGROUND: Handling mental health problems in children and adolescents greatly help prevent the emergence of more severe problems. Early detection and treatment as early as possible can prevent a decrease in productivity and health costs and reduce the burden on families and communities AIM: This study aims to develop a family empowerment model based on modifications and additions of existing designs that are applied operationally by families and health workers. METHODS: The design of this study used a mixed method, the first stage of the study used a descriptive qualitative approach and the second stage of the study was a quasi-experiment. Respondents were 14 parents that had the risk of mental health problems in their adolescents. In the reconnaissance and reflecting stages, the data were analyzed qualitatively and the acting phase was included in the family empowerment model. After all the actions taken were completed, it was followed by observation and comparing of data before and after applying the empowerment model. RESULTS: The reconnaissance stage was carried out to obtain the theme for the family behavior in overcoming mental health problems through early detection, education, and participation. The planning phase was developed using the early mental health detection instrument and workbook. During the acting stage, assistance was provided by the family through information in developing the designed model. The dependent t-test showed an increase in family knowledge after applying the empowerment model (p = 0,000; alpha = 0.05). This indicated that there was a significant effect in the implementation of the model in overcoming mental health problems in children and adolescents. CONCLUSIONS: Family empowerment models include the detection of children with mental health issues, provision of education according to these problems, and participation in the care of those at risk of experiencing it.

The author of the article points out that the quality of the investigation of criminal offenses is deteriorating, the number and quality of criminal proceedings reaching the court is declining. Not the least role in this negative trend is the state of special knowledge applying. That is why it is necessary to improve this activity direction. In the article the author analyzes the historical aspect of special knowledge using while fighting against crime and identifies the following stages of development of such activities: the emergence of forensic knowledge in the ancient world; development of forensic knowledge during the Middle Ages and early modern times; formation of expert criminology as a scientific discipline in modern times. The first stage is characterized by inconsistency in applying special knowledge while fighting against crime, an attempt to develop certain methods of crimes detecting. Often, these techniques were based on person’s psychophysiological reactions, using the knowledge of a person obtained through the usual activities not related to the investigation and crime prevention. The second stage is characterized by the emergence of forensic knowledge, the creation of areas of forensic research, especially in the medical field and in the field of document research, as at that time was widespread concealment of murders using toxic substances and counterfeiting banknotes, bills, wills, etc. The third stage is characterized by the formation of forensic science as a scientific discipline, the use of special expert knowledge not only in order to investigate crimes, but also while carrying out activities related to their prevention. This stage is characterized by the start of systematization of expert’s scientific, special knowledge in these areas, the transition from church to social paradigm of crime, outlining the requirements for legislation as acts that protect the population, not its ruling elite. In future, the development of criminology as a science becomes more systematic, forensic schools are created, that develop certain methods of using special knowledge, generalize them and implement them in the practice of law enforcement agencies. Objective:Although surgery for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is generally considered curative, the outcome is still unsatisfactory, leaving patients faced with uncertainty and fear of recurrence for a long time after surgery. The purpose of this study was to clarify the course of patients' mental adjustment after surgery for NSCLC and to identify predictors of long-term outcome. Methods:A total of 205 patients completed a baseline interview for patient characteristics at 1 month after curative resection of NSCLC and for social support at 3 months, and the Mental Adjustment to Cancer scale at 3 and 12 months. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify predictors of their psychological outcome. Results:The helplessness/hopelessness subscale score improved slightly after curative resection (p< .001), but the score on the fighting spirit subscale score was unchanged (p= .659). Significant predictors of helplessness/hopelessness at 12 months included helplessness/hopelessness at 3 months and advanced disease stage, and satisfaction with confidants. Significant predictors of fighting spirit at 12 months included fighting spirit at 3 months existence of confidants.Significance of results:The results suggested that mental adjustment improved slightly after curative resection for NSCLC. They also suggested the need to maintain continuity of psychosocial care that provides social support, and that an approach that includes careful attention to patients with advanced stage disease may be a strategy for improving mental adjustment after surgery for NSCLC.

The analysis of concepts and technologies of improvement and transformation of infantry fighting vehicles at the present stage of development is carried out. The problem of inconsistency of combat capabilities of modern infantry fighting vehicles with their original purpose, the so-called problem of passivity, is covered. A detailed analysis of the characteristics of modern and promising infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers is presented in order to assess their combat and technical characteristics. According to the results of the analysis, it is indicated that none of the considered samples of combat armored vehicles is fully applied to autonomous or joint actions along with tanks due to insufficient level of protection, limited capabilities or complete passivity of the landing party. Particular attention is paid to the study of ways of constructive transformation of the infantry fighting vehicle on the platform of the T-64 tank of domestic production. Compromise approaches to the layout of modern infantry fighting vehicles with an optimal combination of fire capabilities, security, mobility and improving the maintainability and operational qualities of the combat vehicle are proposed. A well-founded analysis of the existing models of heavy infantry fighting vehicles in service in the armies of different countries has been carried out. Tactical and technical requirements for a promising heavy infantry fighting vehicle of domestic production based on the T-64 tank are substantiated. Ultraviolet (UV) signals are used in female mate choice in numerous taxa; however, the role of UV signals in male contests remains relatively unexplored. We experimentally reduced throat UV of free-ranging lizards ( Platysaurus broadleyi ) to test whether UV acts as a signal of fighting ability during male contests. We found that UV-reduced males were more likely to be challenged than control males. However, contest outcome was not influenced by UV-reduction, and this was despite other obvious asymmetries between opponents, such as body size and residency. Throat UV was confirmed as a signal of fighting ability because contests were more likely to escalate when one contestant had reduced UV. Therefore, throat UV, not body size or residency, was used during the initial stage of opponent assessment, but this did not influence contest outcome. The results suggest that UV overrides other traits that could function as signals during rival assessment.

Purpose – Is globalization instrumental in fighting corruption? Do wealth effects matter in this fight? Are findings valid when linearity assumptions are dropped? The purpose of this paper is to assess the Lalountas et al. (2011) hypotheses (conclusions) in the African context. Design/methodology/approach – Though not form, yet in substance the intuition and motivation are compatible with those of Lalountas et al. (2011). Four hypotheses are tested from different methodological and contextual standpoints. In the analysis, while the economic and social dimensions of globalization are reflected in the human development index, the political dimension is captured by good governance indicators. A two-stage least squares-instrumental variable (TSLS-IV) estimation technique is applied where-in globalization instruments of trade and financial liberalization are instrumented on human development and government quality to account for corruption (corruption-control) effects. Thus the intuition is assessing how globalization is instrumental in the fight against corruption through human development (economic and social dimensions) and government quality (political dimension). Findings – H1: globalization is a powerful tool in fighting corruption (True). H2: globalization is an important tool in fighting corruption only in middle- and high-income countries (partially true). H3: for low-income countries globalization has no significant impact on corruption (true). H4: H1 and H2 are valid only under linearity (false). Social implications – In countries with high levels of per capita, emphasis is placed on the political and social dimensions of globalization and as a result the effects of this phenomenon on corruption-control are significant. Conversely, in nations with low levels of per capita income, emphasis is given to the economic dimension of international integration and as a result the effect of globalization on corruption is limited. As a policy implication, persistent globalization as an effective means to reduce corruption in developing countries might lead to inappropriate policies in low-income countries. Originality/value – This paper has tested the Lalountas et al. (2011) hypotheses in the continent where concerns of globalization, human development and corruption are most acute.

ABSTRACT The juvenile stage of ontogeny is often characterized as a time of inactivity and quiescence for the immature reproductive system. The principle social behaviour by juveniles of many mammalian species is a rough-and-tumble activity known as play-fighting. An experiment is reported in which play-fighting by male rats was observed after various manipulations of gonadal steroids. Rats were housed in groups and castrated either on day 1 or day 10, times which are respectively during and after the sensitive period for androgeninduced organization of neural tissues in rats. Animals were injected with either 40 μg testosterone propionate or vehicle between 21 and 45 days of age, and play-fighting with unoperated, unfamiliar rats was examined. Castration on days 1 and 10 suppressed play-fighting. The behaviours remained suppressed in rats castrated on day 1 and injected with testosterone propionate, but testosterone propionate restored play-fighting to near-normal levels until 35 days of age in rats castrated on day 10. Moreover, gonadally intact juvenile males exposed to the androgen antagonist flutamide play-fought less than intact control males, although their social activity increased appreciably after day 35. It is concluded that the juvenile is not experiencing endocrine quiescence. Behavioural and physiological data suggest a reproductive system which is active, although differently from that in the adult. Hypersensitivity to testosterone and surges of gonadotrophin-releasing factors and LH at 35 days of age may be the events responsible for changes in play-fighting resulting from manipulations of gonadal steroids in juvenile rats. Socially vulnerable groups of the population did not refer for medical assistance in a timely manner due to the lack of the disease danger understanding and also in connection with the high cost for them of medical aid. At the second stage, simultaneously with the restrictive measures introduced by the government, the entire health care system was rebooted: free medical care for patients with COVID-19 was provided and the strictest infection control measures were implemented, multi-level contact tracking system using IT technologies was organized, and the capacity of hospitals was increased many times. Through the joint efforts of ministries, mass media, social networks and volunteer movements, an unprecedented social mobilization of the population was achieved. Strict implementation of the entire set of measures aimed at fighting the epidemic allowed to take it under strict control at the third stage and practically eliminate the epidemic after 2,5 months. China’s response to the COVID-19 epidemic can be useful to other countries, in fighting the current pandemic and in preparing for a response to biological threats in the future.

Background. Patients adjust to cancer in a continuous process that follows the course of the disease. Previous research has considered several illness-related variables and demographics, quality of life, personality, and social factors as predictors of adjustment to cancer, which can be maladaptive (e.g., helplessness-hopelessness and anxious preoccupation) or adaptive (e.g., fighting spirit). Aims. Assuming a biopsychosocial view, we test an empirical model in which disease stage, patient’s age, and gender are viewed as the distal antecedents of positive and negative adjustment to cancer for chemotherapy patients. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has a key role, interposing between the distal antecedents and adaptational outcomes. Social support and positive thinking are also included in the model as related to adjustment. Methods. One-hundred-sixty-two consecutive cancer patients receiving adjuvant or standard chemotherapy participated in the study. Patients completed the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer, the Brief-COPE, the Social Provision Scale, and the SF-12 Health Survey. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied for model building and hypotheses testing. Results. We found a negative association between advanced stage and physical functioning, a strong positive link between physical functioning and mental health, and significant relations between mental health and helpless-hopelessness, anxious preoccupation, and cognitive avoidance. Social support and positive thinking were related to fighting spirit and fatalism. Cancer stage and female gender were indirectly associated with adaptational outcomes through HRQoL. The patient’s age had no significant relationships in the model. Discussion. HRQoL (both physical and mental) is a key factor for preventing maladjustment in chemotherapy patients. Social support and positive thinking coping style fosters fighting spirit and fatalism on health outcomes. Two potential lines of action seem promising: preventing maladaptive and promoting adaptive adjustments working on patient’s mental health individually and involving significant others in supportive care, respectively.

Abstract: A fire outbreak is a hazardous act that leads to numerous consequences. Detecting a fire at an early stage and extinguishing it can aid in prevention of various accident. Till now we rely on human resource. This often leads to risking the life of that person . Therefore, fire security becomes an important aspect to save human lives. In this paper a fire extinguishing robot has been proposed and designed which detects the fire location and extinguish fire by using sprinkler on triggering the pump. This robot uses three flame sensors for accurate fire detection. This proposed model of Fire Extinguishing Robot using Arduino used to detect presence of fire and extinguishing it automatically without any human interference. It contains gear motors and motor driver to control the movement of robot when it detects any presence of fire and will automatically start the water pump to extinguish that fire breakout. This model robot has a water ejector which is capable of ejecting water at the fire breakout place. The water ejector pipe can be move towards the required direction using servo motor .The whole operation is controlled by an Arduino UNO micro controller. The human visual system is remarkably sensitive to stimuli conveying actions, for example the fighting action between two agents. A central unresolved question is whether each agent is processed as a whole in one stage, or as subparts (e.g. limbs) that are assembled into an agent at a later stage. We measured the perceptual impact of perturbing an agent either by scrambling individual limbs while leaving the relationship between limbs unaffected or conversely by scrambling the relationship between limbs while leaving individual limbs unaffected. Our measurements differed for the two conditions, providing conclusive evidence against a one-stage model. The results were instead consistent with a two-stage processing pathway: an early bottom-up stage where local motion signals are integrated to reconstruct individual limbs (arms and legs), and a subsequent top-down stage where limbs are combined to represent whole agents.

Fighting fish (Betta splendens) is one of the fresh water ornamental fish with highly commercial value. This fish has a distinctive morphological shape which is aesthetic and is easy to maintain. Demand for this fish increased leading to opportunities for cultivation. Quality and quantity of fries were constantly needed, and this could be achieved by manipulating reproduction. Photoperiod regimes could play a role to do this. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of photoperiods on the testis development of halfmoon strains of fighting fish. A completely randomized design was run to test 3 treatments in quintuplicates. The fish were reared under treatment P1 (10 hours light L and 14 hours dark D), treatment P2 (14 hours L and 10 hours D) and treatment P0 (12 hours L and 12 hours D). The fish were maintained for 35-d, in Aquatic Resources Laboratory of FPIK Unsoed. The results showed that treatment P2 was significantly different (P<0.05), which the highest spermatogenesis stage (54.78 ± 16.64%) was obtained. The study concluded that male fighting fish under P2 photoperiod could accelerate testicular maturation.

Background: Type-2 diabetes mellitus accounts for 80-90% of diabetic patients. So far, the treatment of diabetes mainly aims at elevating insulin level and lowering glucose level in the peripheral blood and mitigating insulin resistance. Physiologically, insulin secretion from pancreatic β cells is delicately regulated. Thus, how insulin-related therapies could titrate blood glucose appropriately and avoid the occurrence of hypoglycemia remains an important issue for decades. Similar question is addressed on how to attenuate vascular complication in diabetic subjects. Methods: We overviewed the evolution of each class of anti-diabetic drugs that have been used in clinical practice, focusing on their mechanisms, clinical results and cautions. Results: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists stimulate β cells for insulin secretion in response to diet but not in fasting stage, which make them superior than conventional insulinsecretion stimulators. DPP-4 inhibitors suppress glucagon-like peptide-1 degradation. Sodium/ glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors enhance glucose clearance through urine excretion. The appearance of these new drugs provides new information about glycemic control. We update the clinical findings of Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, DPP-4 inhibitors and Sodium/glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors in glycemic control and the risk or progression of cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients. Stem cell therapy might be an alternative tool for diabetic patients to improve β cell regeneration and peripheral ischemia. We summarize the clinical results of mesenchymal stem cells transplanted into patients with diabetic limb and foot. Conclusion: A stepwise intensification of dual and triple therapy for individual diabetic patient is required to achieve therapeutic target.

Why are some factions fighting for greater national self-determination (SD) more violent than others? While previous explanations of violence in these disputes have focused on the number of factions, their internal structures, and power distributions among factions, we find many factions that do not follow the expectations of these theories. In this article, we center on religious ideology, its unique transnational character, and the opportunity it creates for political elites from competing factions within the same SD movement to mobilize support. We argue that “religious factions” have a greater incentive to use violence than other factions. Violence serves as a costly signal, and it can be used to demonstrate a faction’s religious credentials to transnational networks and contacts, as they compete with each other on the international stage for the same potential benefactors. We code original data on the religious ideology of factions. We find that an increasing number of religious factions is associated with increased religious faction use of violence. Furthermore, our findings point to a critical insight: it is not religious ideology, but competition between religious factions, that generates violence.

Objectives: The herbicide glyphosate, a pesticide used in agriculture to control weeds, both in food crops and in other agricultural areas, has been identified as an endocrine modulator through the inhibition of aromatase activity and the activation of estrogen receptors. The present study examined the effects of a glyphosate-based herbicide (Roundup® (GLY-BH) on sexual dimorphism of rats after perinatal exposure to low and high GLY-BH in males and females offspring. Methods: Two groups of pregnant rats were treated with two doses of GLY-BH (50 or 150 mg/kg) from day 15 of gestation (GD15) to postnatal day 7 (PND7). Play fighting behavior was observed at the juvenile stage and during social and sexual behaviors in adulthood. Results: Perinatal GLY BH exposure reduced male and female body weight at 28, 75, and 90 days of age. The play fighting behavior was decreased in both sexes, but female rats were more affected. The sexual behaviors were reduced only in females. Conclusions: Perinatal exposure to both doses of GLY-BH promoted sexually dimorphic effects in both juvenile and adulthood stages. These effects were attributed to the inhibition of aromatase activity induced by exposure to GLY-BH in the perinatal period.

A prominent debate in the civil war literature asks whether commodity price shocks incentivize fighting, but existing analyses find inconsistent results. This paper shows these results arise, in part, because research conflates the decision to form a militant campaign with the start of civil conflict. Using original data on 973 militant groups, I sequentially disaggregate between civil conflict onset and the earlier stage of militant mobilization. I use fixed effect regression methods to test for indirect and interaction effects that could obscure the shock-civil conflict relationship. First, I estimate the effect of export commodity price shocks on mobilization onset. Second, I re-examine the shock-civil conflict relationship conditioning on the number of militant groups mobilizing at the time of the shock. The results show economic shocks indirectly increase the risk of civil conflict by driving militant formation. Disaggregating these stages of militant activity advances research about two-stage conflict processes as well as the indirect causes of violence.

This paper addresses autonomous fire-fighting missions with a heterogeneous team of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). We use UAVs with different capabilities to extinguish cooper- atively fires on the ground and on facades of high-rise buildings. The former is done by deploying fireproof blankets, whereas a water-jet system is used to extinguish fires on building facades. First, we propose two novel mechanisms on board UAVs for fire extinction: a system to deploy a blanket on the ground automatically, and a device to shoot water at facade fires. Then, we describe our software architecture for cooperative multi-robot missions in outdoor and unstructured environments, where robustness and reliability play a key role. The system was particularly developed for the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge (MBZIRC), where we achieved the best performance in the fire-fighting Challenge. However, the conceptual design of our extinguishing devices and our software architecture are more general and could be applied to other search and rescue situations. We present not only our results in the final stage of MBZIRC but also our simulations and field experiments throughout the months previous to the competition, during which we assessed our system and tuned its performance.

Objective. Analysis of experience of the medical help delivery to the wounded persons, suffering a gun-shot fighting abdominal trauma and treated in Military–Medical Clinical Centre of Eastern Region, determining a further steps, concerning optimization of the treatment-diagnosis measures in this category of patients. Materials and methods. Medical cards of 27 stationary patients with a gun-shot penetrating woundings of abdominal cavity, who were operated on the first stage in mobile hospitals with further transportation to Military–Medical Clinical Centre of Eastern Region, were studied. Concerning the missile characteristic, causing the wounding, there were 20 fragmentation woundings (іsolated – 2, multiple – 5, combined – 13), the bullet – 7 (іsolated – 1, multiple – 3, combined – 3). There were also 7 thoraco-abdominal woundings, of them 6 – the fragmentation, 1 – the bullet. In 18 patients the treatment consisted of a one-staged operative intervention performance, in 9 of them –in several stages. Among the wounded persons, who needed multi-staged treatment, 77.8% have had the large bowel damage. Results. The reoperations performance, which were more characteristic for the wounded persons with the large bowel damages, was folllowed by morbidity (adhesional ileus, peritonitis, etc.), enhancement in 2.6 times of purulent complications of postoperative wound, and in 2 times – of the average index of stationary stay, what have demanded a proportionally enhanced expenses from the health-care military system. Conclusion. Among the gun-shot penetrating woundings of abdominal cavity the multiple and combined fragmentation woundings prevailed. As a result, a statistically significant association between damages of large bowel and enhancement of prediction for the morbidity development and the treatment duration was established, using the method of correlation-regression analysis. The large bowel woundings constitute a predictor of more severe course of fighting abdominal trauma and development of complications, what leads to necessity for elaboration of differentiated approach to operative treatment of this wounded persons’ category with objective to reduce a stationary stay and possibility of the morbidity development.

It is crucial because it permits to avoid humility, for all those who feel that humility is beyond their power or below their will, while keeping the fighting and ambitious spirit of hubris. Nowadays, ship’s engine room is fire protected by automatic fire fighting systems, usually controlled from a place located outside the engine room. In order to activate the water mist extinguishing system automatically, at least two different fire detectors have to be activated. One of these detectors is a flame detector that is not hampered by various air flows caused by ventilation or draft and is rapidly activated and the other is smoke detector which is hampered by these flows causing its activation to be delayed. As a consequence, the automatic water mist extinguishing system is also delayed, allowing for fire expansion and its transfer to surrounding rooms. In addition to reliability of the ship’s fire detection system as one of the crucial safety features for the ship, cargo, crew and passengers, using a systematic approach in this research the emphasis is placed on the application of new methods in smoke detection such as the computer image processing and analysis, in order to achieve this goal. This paper describes the research carried out on board ship using the existing marine CCTV systems in early stages of smoke detection inside ship’s engine room, which could be seen as a significant contribution to accelerated suppression of unwanted consequences.

One of the types of such products is fireproof paints, varnishes and coatings - Fire Retardant Coatings (hereinafter – FRC). Application of FRC is based on increasing the fire resistance of building structures to the level regulated by the existing regulations depending on the degree of fire resistance of the building. Frequently, problems with FRC quality are only detected at the stage of checking the performance of fire protection works when applying FRC which do not meet the fire safety requirements.

Crime rate in Malaysia is almost in awareness stage. The centre for Public Policy Studies Malaysia reports that the ratio of police to population is 3.6 officers to 1,000 citizens in Malaysia. This lack of manpower sources ratios alone are not a comprehensive afford of crime fighting capabilities. Thus, dealing with these circumstances, we present a comprehensive study to determine bandit behavior with Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Support vector machine (SVM) and k Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) Classifier. This system provided a good justification as a monitoring supplementary tool for the Malaysian police arm forced.

This study aims to explore the changes of Chinese coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) policy topics in the eclipse, outbreak, and convalescent stage of COVID-19 based on 4982 textual policies. By using the co-occurrence clustering network method, we find that the strict prevention and control of the epidemic is the only topic of policies in the eclipse stage. In the outbreak stage, strict epidemic prevention and control is still the most important policy topic. The policies of resuming work of “essential” enterprises and stabilizing market prices are important support and guarantee for fighting against COVID-19. In the convalescent stage, as the prevention and control of COVID-19 has become regular, promoting and ensuring the resumption of work in all sectors of society is the most important topic of the policies. Moreover, the success of Wuhan City’s fight against COVID-19 reflects China’s governance characteristics of “concentrating power to do a major event”. Finally, the possible improvements for Chinese COVID-19 policies are discussed, which can provide practical suggestions for government departments on how to effectively respond to public health emergencies.

Abstract Deriving from the internal structure of Article 6 of the EU Anti-Tax Avoidance Directive, the abuse of tax law is overcome in two stages—elimination and requalification. While the elimination stage (addressing how not to tax) is harmonized by the EU for the purpose of fighting against aggressive tax planning, the requalification stage (addressing how to tax then) remains under the sovereignty of Member States. Applying such a two-level mechanism becomes problematic if there is a mismatch between these two stages so that the harmonized GAAR requires elimination of an arrangement, but the domestic law does not provide an alternative basis for taxation of it. This raises a question of whether Article 6 of the ATAD requires the Member States to impose new taxable objects regardless of the literal interpretation of Article 6(3) which recognizes the full sovereignty of Member States to decide what to tax. By applying interpretation methods used by the CJEU in its case-law—i.e., literal, contextual, teleological and comparative—the author argues that the answer to this question is “no”. This is supported by all the interpretations under the above method, while the dysfunctionality of these two stages could be overcome by treating the economic reality test as an objective test regardless of the notion of “commercial reasons” used in Article 6(2).

During bullfights, bulls undergo physiometabolic responses such as glycolysis, anaerobic reactions, cellular oedema, splenic contraction, and hypovolemic shock. The objective of this review article is to present the current knowledge on the factors that cause stress in fighting bulls during bullfights, including their dying process, by discussing the neurobiology and their physiological responses. The literature shows that biochemical imbalances occur during bullfights, including hypercalcaemia, hypermagnesaemia, hyperphosphataemia, hyperlactataemia, and hyperglycaemia, associated with increased endogenous cortisol and catecholamine levels. Creatine kinase, citrate synthase, and lactate dehydrogenase levels also increase, coupled with decreases in pH, blood bicarbonate levels, excess base, partial oxygen pressure, and oxygen saturation. The intense exercise also causes a marked decrease of glycogen in type I and II muscle fibres that can produce myoglobinuria and muscular necrosis. Other observations suggest the presence of osteochondrosis. The existing information allows us to conclude that during bullfights, bulls face energy and metabolic demands due to the high intensity and duration of the exercise performed, together with muscular injuries, physiological changes, and high enzyme concentrations. In addition, the final stage of the bullfight causes a slow dying process for an animal that is sentient and conscious of its surroundings.

All countries suffer from corruption to a greater or a smaller degree. An effective combination of measures aimed at preventing and fighting corruption guarantees success in counteracting this destructive, harmful phenomenon. The role of community in fighting corruption is growing at the current stage of the development of the state and the society. Thus, the right of the public to take measures to counteract corruption is embedded at both the international (the UNO Convention against Corruption) and the national (the Constitution of Ukraine, the laws of Ukraine «On Corruption Prevention», «On Petitions of Citizens», «On Access to Public Information», etc.) levels. This right can be exercised in three forms. The first is the participation of individual citizens who have attained majority in fighting corruption. The second form is the participation of public organizations. Thus, there are about 200 anti-corruption NGOs currently active in the country. The third form is the activity of mass media, for example, spreading information on the anti-corruption investigations. There are also two groups of methods that the public can use to exercise its right to counteract corruption: information-consulting and dynamic (active). The first group includes: the possibility to request and obtain information, in the amount and according to the procedure not prohibited by law, on the activities of preventing and fighting corruption from the bodies of state and local governance; the possibility to take part in parliamentary hearings; the possibility to report the revealed facts of corruption or corruption-related violations, of real or potential conflict of interests to specially authorized subjects in the sphere of counteracting corruption, to National Agency of Corruption Prevention, to the management or other representatives of the body, company, institution or organization where these violations happened or whose employees have a conflict of interests; the possibility to introduce initiatives to the subjects of the legislative initiative on improving the legislative regulation of relations emerging in the sphere of preventing corruption, and on taking measures aimed at informing the public on preventing corruption. The group of dynamic methods includes the possibility to initiate and conduct a public anti-corruption expertise, as well as scientific and sociological research on the problems of preventing corruption, and also the possibility to have public anti-corruption control. Besides, the legislation provides for a possibility to implement other anti-corruption measures that are not prohibited by law. One of the key methods of counteracting corruption is the anti-corruption training of the potential subjects of corruption offences. The authors conclude that the public is a key full-fledged subject of fighting corruption in Ukraine.

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1980-0037.2016v18n4p471 The benefits that the regular practice of physical activity (PA) provides to health and its importance in preventing and fighting chronic diseases. The aim of this study was to identify the Stages of Behavior Change (SBC) for PA among technicaladministrative servers and its association with sociodemographic and health risk factors. This cross-sectional study investigated 622 technical-administrative servers (337 women) from a Brazilian federal university. SBC for PA, sociodemographic information (gender, age, marital status and educational level) and health risk factors (inadequate eating habits, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, commuting and PA at work) were collected through questionnaires. Multinomial regression with adjustment for the hierarchical level was applied and significance level of 5% was adopted. The distribution of technical-administrative servers in SBC for PA identified prevalence of 9.1% and 6.5% in the pre-contemplation stage, 24.6% and 33.5% in contemplation, 33.3% and 22 6% in preparation, 5.6% and 12.2% in action and 27.4% and 25.2% in maintenance stages between men and women, respectively. Lower odds ratio of being in the preparation stage was identified among women (OR=0.62; CI95%=0.41; 0.93) while those with inadequate eating habits were more odds to be in the “pre-contemplation + contemplation” (OR=2.77; CI95%=1.85; 4.15) and preparation stages (OR=1.75; CI95%=1.12; 2.70). Over 60% of technical-administrative servers are insufficiently active (pre-contemplation, contemplation and preparation stages) and factors associated with SBC were female sex and inadequate eating habits.

Streszczenie:
This research aims to evaluate the education of street children at Rumah Impian Foundation in Yogyakarta. This is an evaluation research using a responsive evaluation model with a naturalistic qualitative approach. The evaluation stages carried out in this study consist of Rational, Anteccendent, Transaction, and Outcome. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with snowball sampling because the data were obtained from the community of the subjective sample, or in other words, the sample used is very rare and is grouped in a set. The data were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques by Milles and Huberman. The results of the study show that, at the rational stage, the background of the educational concern for street children starts with a sense of caring about the street children’s future that is worth fighting for. In the antecedent stage, there is a conformity input between the volunteer, apprenticeship membership, and the street children’s education needs, in the form of policies and recruiting volunteers to be a companion to street children. At the transaction stage, the process between the foundation and street children education is appropriate, meaning that the foundation has facilitated the education needed by street children both formally and non-formally, in the form of increasing their skills through courses. Thus, there is a match between what was done in the previous stages and its results, showing that there are street children who reach their dreams, as a result of the foundation's efforts to continue knitting their dreams through intensive activities and assistance.
