Streszczenie:
Abstract: It is now essential for power and energy engineers to keep an eye out for sustainable, economical and environmental friendly alternatives to conventional energy sources, such as the sun, wind, geothermal, ocean, and biomass. However, these renewable energy sources are not always available throughout the year, so the hybrid renewable energy systems concept has come. Hybrid renewable energy system is the best choice for power generation. However, In these kind of systems, stability issues may arise. This is a review of the hybrid power system's stability. This paper analyses the stability issue and discusses various controllers that have an impact on the hybrid power system's output power. Stability and power quality are the two main issues with hybrid systems. Numerous fact devices and other techniques are used to improve these issues. The use of hybrid power systems is growing today. The majority of the work is based on using various controllers and controlling techniques to generate the most power possible from a hybrid system while maintaining power quality.

Streszczenie:
This paper considers the finite time stability of stochastic hybrid systems, which has both Markovian switching and impulsive effect. First, the concept of finite time stability is extended to stochastic hybrid systems. Then, by using common Lyapunov function and multiple Lyapunov functions theory, two sufficient conditions for finite time stability of stochastic hybrid systems are presented. Furthermore, a new notion called stochastic minimum dwell time is proposed and then, combining it with the method of multiple Lyapunov functions, a sufficient condition for finite time stability of stochastic hybrid systems is given. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

Streszczenie:
A method is proposed to infer stability properties for non-linear switching under continuous state feedback. Continuous-time systems which are dissipative in the multiple storage function sense are considered. A partition of the state space, induced by the cross-supply rates and the feedback function, is used to derive a restriction on switching. Then, conditions are proposed, under which, systems controlled by the feedback function and switching according to the rule are stable. In particular, Lyapunov and asymptotic stability are proved, both in a local and in a global context. Further, it is shown that the approach can be extended when one uses multiple controllers, and, therefore, is able to construct multiple partitions; conditions for this case are also presented. Finally, it is shown that, for the switching families that satisfy the switching rule posited by the results, one is able to find elements (that is, stabilising switching laws for the system) which are non-Zeno. Additional rule-sets that allow this are provided. It is argued that the conditions proposed here are easier to verify and apply, and that they offer additional flexibility when compared to those proposed by other approaches in the literature. The same infrastructure is used in the study of hybrid systems. For a general class of non-linear hybrid systems, a new property is proposed, that retains some of the properties of dissipativity, but it differs from it, crucially in the fact that it is not purely input-output. For systems having this property, it is shown that the partition used in the switching case can also be used. This, along with a set of conditions allows for the characterisation of the system behaviour in two scenaria. First, when the continuous behaviours and the jumping scheme act co-operatively, leading the system to lower energy levels (from the dissipativity point of view). Second, when the continuous behaviours are allowed to increase the stored energy, but the jumping is able to 6 compensate this increase. In the first case, it is shown that the equilibrium point under study is stable; in the second, it is shown that the system exhibits a type of attractivity, and, under additional conditions, it is asymptotically stable. Besides stability, a collection of stabilisation results are given for the case of dissipative switching systems. It is shown that one may design state feedback functions (controllers) with the objective that they satisfy the conditions of the stability theorems in this work. Then, systems under the designed controllers are shown to be stable, provided that the switching adheres to a specific switching rule. This problem is approached using a variety of tools taken from analysis, multi-valued functions and the space of non-switching stabilisation. In addition to the main results, an extensive overview of the literature in the area of switching and hybrid systems is offered, with emphasis on the topics of stability and dissipativity. Finally, a collection of numerical examples are given, validating the results presented here.

Modeling of many phenomena in nature escape the rather common frameworks of continuous-time and discrete-time models. In fact, for many systems encountered in practice, these two paradigms need to be intrinsically related and connected, in order to reach a satisfactory level of description in modeling the considered physical/engineering process. These systems are often referred to as hybrid systems, and various possible formalisms have appeared in the literature over the past years. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the stability of particular classes of hybrid systems, by providing Lyapunov-based sufficient conditions for (asymptotic) stability. In particular, we will focus on non-differentiable locally Lipschitz candidate Lyapunov functions. The first chapters of this manuscript can be considered as a general introduction of this topic and the related concepts from non-smooth analysis. This will allow us to study a class of piecewise smooth maps as candidate Lyapunov functions, with particular attention to the continuity properties of the constrained differential inclusion comprising the studied hybrid systems. We propose ``relaxed'' Lyapunov conditions which require to be checked only on a dense set and discuss connections to other classes of locally Lipschitz or piecewise regular functions.Relaxing the continuity assumptions, we then investigate the notion of generalized derivatives when considering functions obtained as emph{max-min} combinations of smooth functions. This structure turns out to be particularly fruitful when considering the stability problem for differential inclusions arising from regularization of emph{state-dependent switched systems}.When the studied switched systems are composed of emph{linear} sub-dynamics, we refine our results, in order to propose algorithmically verifiable conditions. We further explore the utility of set-valued derivatives in establishing input-to-state stability results, in the context of perturbed differential inclusions/switched systems, using locally Lipschitz candidate Lyapunov functions. These developments are then used in analyzing the stability problem for interconnections of differential inclusion, with an application in designing an observer-based controller for state-dependent switched systems

Streszczenie:
Hybrid singularly perturbed systems (SPSs) with time delay are considered and exponential stability of these systems is investigated. This work mainly covers switched and impulsive switched delay SPSs . Multiple Lyapunov functions technique as a tool is applied to these systems. Dwell and average dwell time approaches are used to organize the switching between subsystems (modes) so that the hybrid system is stable. Systems with all stable modes are first discussed and, after developing lemmas to ensure existence of growth rates of unstable modes, these systems are then extended to include, in addition, unstable modes. Sufficient conditions showing that impulses contribute to yield stability properties of impulsive switched systems that consist of all unstable subsystems are also established. A number of illustrative examples are presented to help motivate the study of these systems.

Streszczenie:
Modern complex dynamical systems typically possess a multiechelon hierarchical hybrid structure characterized by continuous-time dynamics at the lower-level units and logical decision-making units at the higher-level of hierarchy. Hybrid dynamical systems involve an interacting countable collection of dynamical systems defined on subregions of the partitioned state space. Thus, in addition to traditional control systems, hybrid control systems involve supervising controllers which serve to coordinate the (sometimes competing) actions of the lower-level controllers. A subclass of hybrid dynamical systems are impulsive dynamical systems which consist of three elements, namely, a continuous-time differential equation, a difference equation, and a criterion for determining when the states of the system are to be reset. One of the main topics of this dissertation is the development of stability analysis and control design for impulsive dynamical systems. Specifically, we generalize Poincare's theorem to dynamical systems possessing left-continuous flows to address the stability of limit cycles and periodic orbits of left-continuous, hybrid, and impulsive dynamical systems. For nonlinear impulsive dynamical systems, we present partial stability results, that is, stability with respect to part of the system's state. Furthermore, we develop adaptive control framework for general class of impulsive systems as well as energy-based control framework for hybrid port-controlled Hamiltonian systems. Extensions of stability theory for impulsive dynamical systems with respect to the nonnegative orthant of the state space are also addressed in this dissertation. Furthermore, we design optimal output feedback controllers for set-point regulation of linear nonnegative dynamical systems. Another main topic that has been addressed in this research is the stability analysis of large-scale dynamical systems. Specifically, we extend the theory of vector Lyapunov functions by constructing a generalized comparison system whose vector field can be a function of the comparison system states as well as the nonlinear dynamical system states. Furthermore, we present a generalized convergence result which, in the case of a scalar comparison system, specializes to the classical Krasovskii-LaSalle invariant set theorem. Moreover, we develop vector dissipativity theory for large-scale dynamical systems based on vector storage functions and vector supply rates. Finally, using a large-scale dynamical systems perspective, we develop a system-theoretic foundation for thermodynamics. Specifically, using compartmental dynamical system energy flow models, we place the universal energy conservation, energy equipartition, temperature equipartition, and entropy nonconservation laws of thermodynamics on a system-theoretic basis.

Computing reachable sets is a de facto approach used in many formal verification methods for hybrid systems. But exact computation of the reachable set is an in- tractable problem for many kinds of hybrid systems, either due to undecidability or high computational complexity. Alternatively, quite a lot of research has been focused on using set representations that can be efficiently manipulated to com- pute sufficiently accurate over-approximation of the reachable set. Zonotopes are a useful set representation in reachability analysis because of their closure and low complexity for computing linear transformation and Minkowski sum operations. But for approximating the unbounded time reachable sets by positive invariants, zonotopes have the following drawback. The effectiveness of a set representation for computing a positive invariant depends on efficiently encoding the directions for convergence of the states to an equilibrium. In an affine hybrid system, some of the directions for convergence can be encoded by the complex valued eigen- vectors of the transformation matrices. But the zonotope representation can not exploit the complex eigenstructure of the transformation matrices because it only has real valued generators. Therefore, we extend real zonotopes to the complex valued domain in a way that can capture contraction along complex valued vectors. This yields a new set representation called complex zonotope. Geometrically, complex zonotopes repre- sent a wider class of sets that include some non-polytopic sets as well as polytopic zonotopes. They retain the merit of real zonotopes that we can efficiently perform linear transformation and Minkowski sum operations and compute the support function. Additionally, we show that they can capture contraction along complex valued eigenvectors. Furthermore, we develop computationally tractable approx- imations for inclusion-checking and intersection with half-spaces. Using these set operations on complex zonotopes, we develop convex programs to verify lin- ear invariance properties of discrete time affine hybrid systems and exponential stability of linear impulsive systems. Our experiments on some benchmark exam- ples demonstrate the efficiency of the verification techniques based on complex zonotopes

Streszczenie:
Switched systems belong to a special class of hybrid systems, which consist of a collection of subsystems described by continuous dynamics together with a switching rule that specifies the switching between the subsystems. Such systems can be used to describe a wide range of practical applications, such as orbital transfer of satellites, auto-driving design, communication security, financial investment, neural networks and chaotic systems, just to name a few. For these switched systems, the occurrence of impulses and delay phenomena cannot be avoided. For example, in some circuit systems, switching speeds of amplifiers within the units’ individual circuits are finite, and hence causing delays in the transmission of signals. The abrupt changes in the voltages produced by faulty circuit elements are exemplary of impulsive phenomena. On the other hand, it is well known that stability is one of the most important issues in real applications for any dynamical system, and there is no exception for switched systems, switched systems with impulses, or delayed switched systems. With the motivations mentioned above, we present, in this thesis, new developments resulting from our work on fundamental stability theory and design methodologies for stabilizing controllers of several types of switched systems with impulses and delays. These systems and their practical motivations are first discussed in Chapter 1. Brief reviews on existing results which are directly relevant to the subject matters of the thesis are also given in the same chapter. In Chapter 2, we consider a class of impulsive switched systems with time- invariant delays and parameter uncertainties. New sufficient stability conditions are obtained for these impulsive delayed switched systems. For illustration, a numerical example is solved using the proposed approach. In Chapter 3, new asymptotic stability criteria, expressed in the form of linear matrix inequalities, are derived using the Lyapunov-Krasovskii technique for a class of impulsive switched systems with time-invariant delays. These asymptotic stability criteria are independent of time delays and impulsive switching intervals. A design methodology is then developed for the construction of a feedback controller which asymptotically stabilizes the closed-loop system. A numerical example is solved using the proposed method. In Chapter 4, new asymptotic stability criteria, expressed in the form of linear matrix inequalities, and a design procedure for the construction of a delayed stabilizing feedback controller are obtained using the receding horizon method for a class of uncertain impulsive switched systems with input delay. For illustration, a numerical example is solved using the proposed method. In Chapter 5, we consider the stabilization problem for cellular neural networks with time delays. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, we obtain new sufficient conditions for asymptotical stability of the delayed cellular neural networks and devise a computational procedure for constructing impulsive feedback controllers which stabilize the delayed cellular neural networks. A numerical example is given, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method. In Chapter 6, we consider a class of H∞ optimal control problems with systems described by uncertain impulsive differential equations. A new design method for the construction of feedback control laws which asymptotically stabilize the uncertain closed-loop systems is obtained. Furthermore, it is shown that the H∞ norm-bounded constraints on disturbance attenuation for all admissible uncertainties are satisfied. New sufficient conditions, expressed as linear matrix inequalities, for ensuring the existence of such a control law are presented. A numerical example is solved, illustrating the effectiveness of the proposed method. In Chapter 7, we conclude the thesis by making some concluding remarks and giving brief discussions on topics for further research.

Streszczenie:
Introduction: Intraarticular fractures of the tibial plateau and periarticular fractures of the proximal tibia, caused by high energy trauma pose a therapeutic dilemma. Such fractures are associated with extensive soft tissue damage with or without compound injury. The management of such high velocity injuries become a challenge to the trauma surgeons. The goals of these periarticular fractures management are 1. Restoration of joint congruity by anatomic reduction 2. Stable xation of fractures thus allowing early movements 3. Proper care of injured soft tissues. In earlier days uniplanar external xation were used with various complications like pin track infections and decreased stability. In this study we present the use of hybrid external xation system which includes Ilizarov ring xator and AO rod external xator connected with indigenously manufactured connecting clamps and short shafts augmented with or without minimal internal xation. The purpose of this study is to assess the utility of this hybrid external xation system and to analyse the functional outcome, soft tissue healing and fracture union. To assess the performance of the Hybrid External Fixator Aim and Objective: in the treatment of different types of proximal tibial fractures, to evaluate the functional outcome, soft tissue healing and fracture union and radiological outcome, to evaluate the biomechanical and biological advantage of hybrid external xator, to assess the utility of the indigenously made connecting clamps. Material and Method: The study included 21 cases of periarticular fractures of the proximal tibia which were treated by use of 5/8th Ilizarov ring, AO tubular external xator and with indigenously manufactured connecting clamps & short shaft in a hybrid mode. All cases were prospectively followed up and studied. Almost all the cases (99%) had sustained Road trafc Accidents (high velocity injuries) except one case which had sustained injury by fall of cement wall over her leg. Minimum follow up – 1.5 months, maximum follow up – 12 months, mean follow up – 6.42 months. All fractures were followed according to a protocol. All fractures were treated with either CLOSED REDUCTION AND HYBRID EXTERNAL FIXATION OR WITH MINIMAL OPEN REDUCTION AND A HYBRID SYSTEM. The study group was consisted of 16 males (76%) and 5 females (24%) with an average age for males of 43.06 years (range 25 to 65) and for females of 53.4 years (range 41 to 59). All the patients were in the age group of 26 to 65 years, mean age is 43.09. In the present s Result: tudy of 21 cases, the use of Hybrid external xation, as a denite treatment, for high – energy proximal tibia bicondylar fractures proved to be benecial.

Streszczenie:
This research project was a collaboration of several research organizations, product manufacturers and fire service representatives to examine hazards associated with residential flooring systems to improve firefighter safety. Funding for this project was provided through the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Grant Program. The main objective of this study was to improve firefighter safety by increasing the level of knowledge on the response of residential flooring systems to fire. Several types (or series) of experiments were conducted and analyzed to expand the body of knowledge on the impact of fire on residential flooring systems. The results of the study have been prepared to provide tactical considerations for the fire service to enable improved decision making on the fire scene. Experiments were conducted to examine several types of floor joists including, dimensional lumber, engineered I-joists, metal plate connected wood trusses, steel C-joists, castellated I-joists and hybrid trusses. Experiments were performed at multiple scales to examine single floor system joists in a laboratory up through a full floor system in an acquired structure. Applied load, ventilation, fuel load, span and protection methods were altered to provide important information about the impact of these variables to structural stability and firefighter safety. There are several tactical considerations that result from this research that firefighters can use immediately to improve their understanding, safety and decision making when sizing up a fire in a one or two family home. This report summarizes the results from each of the experimental series and provides discussion and conclusions of the results.
