The Christian life is not static, but marks an expected, if often unspecified, trajectory of growth into maturity. The study of these practices that encourage growth is often called “Spiritual Formation,” and yet a survey of recent literature in the field reveals no real consensus regarding the definition for this process or its objectives. This essay will attempt to bring clarity to the practice of Christian formation through an analysis of the concept of formation, three key scriptural warrants, the role of the Church in its execution, and especially to the telos of formation. While typical accounts of Christian formation point to a vision for “Christlikeness” as the telos of its practices, in this essay I will argue that a more fundamental grounding—based on the nature of worship—should be located in the Triune Imago Dei. A given doctrine of God tacitly forms the ecclesiological environment in which a given Christian is being formed—or mal-formed.

It is necessary to define factors that affect the process of shaping future teachers’ spiritual worldview. The knowledge factors influencing the formation of a spiritual worldview allow us to elicit the most effective ways and means to shape future teachers’ professional self-awareness. Therefore, this paper is devoted to studying factors that play an important role in future teachers’ spiritual worldview formation. Reflection determines the prerequisites and consequences of the future teachers’ spiritual worldview. It is noted that only a spiritually rich teacher can solve the problems of modern education. Eighteen factors for forming future teachers’ spiritual worldviews are revealed. The authors briefly describe the contributions of various scientific disciplines to this topic, which are widely used in modern science, especially pedagogical and psychological ones. The authors do not rely on any religious experience, aspects, or approaches. There can always be an influence of subjectivity and the prevalence of religious approaches over scientific concepts in such an approach. In conclusion, findings regarding the factors involved in forming future teachers’ spiritual worldviews are presented.

Modern Christians often polarize the otherwise inseparable realities of academic reading and personal reading of Scripture. While generally not declared outright, many Christians consider the two methods discontinuous. This article deems this bifurcation unnecessary and dangerous to the spiritual formation of individuals and the spiritual health of the church. It examines Bonaventure's insightful use of the quadriga in order to contribute to today's discussion of spiritual reading of Scripture. The article shall argue that (at least a variation of) Bonaventure's quadrigal method ought to be retrieved today for the spiritual health of scholarship and the church. This thesis will be attained organically. It will first survey his proposed method of interpretation in his Breviloquium and Commentary on the Gospel of Luke; then, it will appeal to scriptural and pastoral support to show that his method is a helpful route for retrieval.

In this thesis, I demonstrate that a consistent and powerful imagining of spiritual formation shapes Tolkien’s legendarium, such that the world of Arda and its inhabitants are deeply marked by both dysformation and euformation, and this is not accidental. Because I am convinced that Tolkien’s fiction is “capable of elucidating truth,” I have focused on redescribing his world and characters in order to draw Arda’s deep formational dynamics to the surface. I show that his legendarium in general and The Lord of the Rings in particular are compelling tales of formational imagination. I have not focused on drawing out moral implications for the primary world (though I do suggest the shape some implications might take), but have focused instead on Tolkien’s sub-created world and allowed it to encourage our reimagining of formational possibilities. The first part of this thesis examines Arda in light of Tolkien’s theory of sub-creation, demonstrating how Arda’s marring offers a creative reimagining of sin and evil that shape the way he then imagines the potential for redemption. But Arda is more than just background; it has its own formational story in which the stories of characters moving toward euformation or dysformation make sense. In the second part of this thesis, I examine the formational journeys of Saruman, Gollum, and Frodo, demonstrating that each follows a path that shapes the way he interacts with the world. Where Frodo’s euformation makes him more like the Elves, Saruman and Gollum’s dysformation makes them like the orcs and wraiths respectively. Through their stories, Tolkien invites us to see Arda and its inhabitants as marred, yet capable of redemption. In attending to these things, I show that Tolkien’s work of formational imagination can be read as a distinctive contribution to the theological tradition and deserves a place within its conversations.

'Spiritual formation' is a popular term today, but definitions of its meaning vary. It is usually thought of from the perspective of the disciple rather than from the perspective of the mentor, who accompanies and guides the disciple in the formation process. This thesis seeks to contribute to a greater understanding of the spiritual formation process by a close examination of Paul's perspective as one forming the protégé. Chapter 1 surveys writers who have written on topics related to spiritual formation, and then formulates research questions based on the surveys. Then, current definitions of spiritual formation are compared, identifying areas of agreement and disagreement and notes that there has been only limited study of this theme in Paul's writings. Chapter 2 offers a definition of spiritual formation based on 1 Thessalonians, and explores its key features on the evidence of this letter. From 1 Thessalonians, it is stated that Paul would find the term 'spiritual formation' inadequate and suggests the term 'Christian formation' instead. Also, impartation is identified as an important element in this Christian formation process. Chapter 3 surveys the other letters generally accepted as Pauline, arguing that, while Paul’s basic understanding of Christian formation remains consistent throughout his ministry, certain developments in his understanding can also be identified. Chapter 4 analyses and compares methods of impartation from his contemporary world that may have influenced Paul. Chapter 5 studies Paul’s method of impartation. The verb in 1 Thess. 2:8, metadidōmi, sheds light on the impartational activity practiced by Paul and his associates. Three dimensions of impartation can be discerned: the cognitive, affective, and relational dimensions. The issue of Paul and power based on the postmodern perspective is also discussed. Chapter 6 draws conclusions from the study and reflects on possible implications for the practice of Christian formation today.

The purpose of the article is to consider the worldview as an indicator of personality development, which involves solving problems of defining concepts: personality, the structure of the worldview and the factors of its formation. Research methods are philosophical and general logical. Research results. Worldview, as the highest stage of human development, is characterized by consistency and theoretical justification. Among the factors that create a personality, the person himself is decisive, making himself the object of critical analysis, becoming a formative subject, which indicates his spiritual (personal) maturity.

The problems of the correlation of cosmopolitan and national identities are too complex to be unambiguous assessment, let alone alternative values (related to the ecological paradigm and the spiritual traditions of other cultures). However, it is obvious that without preserving the national identity, the integrity and independence of the national state becomes problematic. On the other hand, without taking into account the consequences of information wars and aggressive cosmopolitan tendencies of global media culture, there is a threat of losing the national information space and displacing it to the periphery of socio-political and economic life in Ukraine and in the modern world. In the process of working on research issues, the author of the article came out on the principles of objectivity, systematic and determinism, which in combination of their observance made it possible to determine the influence of the post-industrial information society on the formation of a new type of mass consciousness. As a result of the influence of globalization processes, there was a filling of the domestic information space with a supernational mass culture of entertainment, which in most cases leads to the spread of a primitive world outlook based on the ideology of consumption society, without leaving places to preserve sociocultural traditions and national identity. Therefore, given the problems of preserving national identity, it is necessary should be mentioned the information security of the state, which occupies one of the most important places, among various aspects of information security, since the unresolved problem of protection of the national information space significantly complicates the processes of formation of national identity.

The subject of the study is the cooperation of S. Efremov with Western Ukrainian periodicals as a page in the history of Ukrainian journalism which covers the relationship of journalists and scientists of Eastern and Western Ukraine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Research methods (biographical, historical, comparative, axiological, statistical, discursive) develop the comprehensive disclosure of the article. As a result of scientific research, the origins of Ukrainocentrism in the personality of S. Efremov were clarified; his person as a public figure, journalist, publisher, literary critic is multifaceted; taking into account the specifics of the memoir genre and with the involvement of the historical context, the turning points in the destiny of the author of memoirs are interpreted, revealing cooperation with Western Ukrainian magazines and newspapers. The publications ‘Zoria’, ‘Narod’, ‘Pravda’, ‘Bukovyna’, ‘Dzvinok’, are secretly got into sub-Russian Ukraine, became for S. Efremov a spiritual basis in understanding the specifics of the national (Ukrainian) mass media, ideas of education in culture of Ukraine at the end of XIX century, its territorial integrity, and state independence. Memoirs of S. Efremov on cooperation with the iconic Galician journals ‘Notes of the Scientific Society after the name Shevchenko’ and ‘Literary-Scientific Bulletin’, testify to an important stage in the formation of the author’s worldview, the expansion of the genre boundaries of his journalism, active development as a literary critic. S. Yefremov collaborated most fruitfully and for a long time with the Literary-Scientific Bulletin, and he was impressed by the democratic position of this publication. The author’s comments reveal a long-running controversy over the publication of a review of the new edition of Kobzar and thematically related discussions around his other literary criticism, in which the talent of the demanding critic was forged. S. Efremov steadfastly defended the main principles of literary criticism: objectivity and freedom of author’s thought. The names of the allies of the Ukrainian idea L. Skochkovskyi, O. Lototskyi, O. Konyskyi, P. Zhytskyi, M. Hrushevskyi in S. Efremov’s memoirs unfold in multifaceted portrait descriptions and function as historical and cultural facts that document the pages of the author’s biography, record his activities in space and time. The results of the study give grounds to characterize S. Efremov as the first professional Ukrainian-speaking journalist.

This electronic resource contains a critical summary of the problems of sovereign statehood and the responsibility of public authority in the light of an interdisciplinary systemic organic approach. The author reveals the essence and content of the categories “sovereign statehood” and “responsibility of public authority” as key factors of the state legal system for ensuring the life of the Russian Federation in the conditions of the emergence of a new world order. It is shown that the multi-valued category of “statehood” (statehood, stateness, nationhood, nationness) reflects the complexity of the concept, which characterizes the status and ability of the state to carry out its functions, and on the other hand, reflects the cultural-historical and spiritual-ideological unity of society, which is the deepest internal semantic content both preceding the state and completing its sociohistorical formation in the course of state development and historical transformations. Based on the systemic-organic approach and within the framework of the structure of the Aristotelian tetrad, the author reveals an integral model of the political and legal phenomenon of “statehood”, in which the final cause (ethion) is determined by “sovereign statehood”, which presupposes unity, integrity, actual autonomy, independence, independence and self-sufficiency states in making decisions that ensure the historical existence and development of the country. The work presents a theoretical understanding of social (public) solidarity as a legal construct and instrument of social harmony and integrity of the state-legal body of the Russian Federation. It is shown that public solidarity, as a constitutional and administrative-legal phenomenon in its positive and negative forms, creates the necessary basis for the implementation of the principle of mutual responsibility of the individual, society and state. An idea of the responsibilities of the state, its bodies and officials to the individual and society is given, the role and place of public legal responsibility of holders of power in the solidary social mechanism is outlined. In general, the results of interdisciplinary research are aimed at identifying key factors in social theory and practice that contribute to the acquisition of true independence and self-sufficiency of Russian statehood and the preservation of the civilizational foundations of a multinational Russian society. The manual will be useful to undergraduate and graduate students studying social and political sciences, and anyone interested in the theory and practice of government.
