This project aims to investigate the effect impacting a high speed golf ball on TiN coated metal plate, a simulated golf club head. It was found that the surface coating caused greater deformation of the golf ball. It can be said that a club with this coating will absorb less energy from the impact. The result of this is that the energy will that was not absorbed by the club threw deformation will remain in the golf ball. This extra energy will be transformed into two forms of kinetic energy. The other will be used up by the forces acting on the ball during flight. This research is important as large golf club and golf ball companies have great interest and motivation to further their understanding of new ways to improve their golf clubs.

The concept that golf clubs should have a uniform weight distribution means that manufacturers invest significant time and money tailoring the swingweight of their clubs. If golfers are unable to perceive significant changes in swingweight, however, and the effect of swingweight on club performance is small, the current manufacturing tolerances on swingweight can be widened, allowing time and cost savings in the assembly process. Testing was conducted using 30 skilled golfers each performing ten tee-shots with four differently weighted drivers. Clubhead mass was varied using screwed inserts of different known masses and the effects on impact location and clubhead speed were both measured. Changes to golf club weight distribution, measured using the swingweight concept, were found to have little effect on player performance and, in general, golfers were unable to perceive small changes in club swingweight. Manufacturing tolerances for component masses appear to offer sufficient control over golf club weight distribution, suggesting that mass balancing procedures may be relaxed during club assembly to provide production time and cost savings.

The aim of the study was to determine the variability of golf swing execution in lower and upper body parameters for two golf clubs. Eleven elite female golfers of junior age volunteered in the study and performed 10 trials with mid-iron and with driver at laboratory conditions. A 3D motion capture system was used to measure the lower and upper body movement parameters and club head speed. To assess variability, the coefficient of variation (CV%) and biological coefficient of variation (BCV%) were calculated. Two-tailed t test was used to identify differences between mid-iron and driver variability for each selected kinematic parameter. Any significant difference in variability of kinematics parameters was found between mid-iron club and driver club. However, for both clubs, we found high stability of performance in timing parameters and of lower limbs kinematic parameters at three selected moments of the golf swing. We conclude that timing stability may be the key to achieve the effective and repeatable golf swing in both golf clubs types and that high intra-individual variability of performance may be due to large age range in the study group.

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between split times within sprint tests over 30 m and 40 m in elite Australian Rules footballers. Methods:Data were analyzed from two Australian Football League (AFL) clubs. The first club (n = 35) conducted a 40-m sprint test and recorded split times at 10 m and 20 m. The second club (n = 30) conducted a 30-m sprint test and recorded splits at 10 m and 20 m. Analyses included calculation of Pearson correlations and common variances between all the split times as well as “flying” times (20–40 m for the first club and 20 to 30 m for the second club). Results:There was a high correlation (r = 0.94) between 10-m time and 20-m time within each club, indicating these measures assessed very similar speed qualities. The correlations between 10-m time and times to 30 m and 40 m decreased, but still produced common variances of 79% and 66% respectively. However when the “flying” times (20–40 m and 20–30 m) were correlated to 10-m time, the common variances decreased substantially to 25% and 42% respectively, indicating uniqueness. Conclusions:It was concluded that 10-m time is a good refection of acceleration capabilities and either 20 to 40 m in a 40-m sprint test or 20 to 30 m in a 30-m sprint test can be used to estimate maximum speed capabilities. It was suggested that sprint tests over 30 m or 40 m can be conducted indoors to provide useful information about independent speed qualities in athletes.

Purpose – Golf started on September 30th, 1982, when Zhang Junlin registered and established Shenzhen Golf Club Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen Municipal Market Supervision Administration. In September of the same year, it was approved by Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government. The establishment of the first established golf club in China also marks the official entry of modern golf into the Chinese market. In 1997, Shenzhen University established the first golf major in China, and now there are nearly 600 golf courses in China. China’s golf industry is still developing at a high speed despite policy restrictions. However, there are still some deficiencies in golf vocational training in China. Through the analysis of the shortcomings, the reasonable development direction is put forward. Design/Methodology/Approach – With the development of golf industry, supporting education has also been carried out in China. Since Shenzhen University, many colleges and universities have also carried out related majors. Golf industry is not limited to golf, but also includes lawn planting, garden art, fashion design, sporting goods manufacturing, hotel management, real estate development, golf education and training, etc., which makes the golf industry bring a variety of jobs and personnel needs. It also makes golf clubs pay more attention to talent cultivation. In this paper, the problems existing in the training of golf talents in clubs and universities are listed and analyzed by means of investigation, to find out the appropriate direction. Findings – Children are an important member of golf club staff. How to carry out good caddy training and improve caddy’s professional level and comprehensive quality has become the task focus of golf club managers. At present, the common problems of golf caddies in China are: 1. There is no uniform training standard, which makes the quality of caddies uneven. 2. The income of caddies is unstable. 3. Most of the temporary employment relationships between caddies and clubs. 4. Caddy talent reserve can’t meet the needs of club staff. 5. Caddy occupation requires physical condition, and it is difficult to transform after unemployment. Research Implications – A good teaching foundation is an important way to cultivate talents, and only the mutual communication between clubs and colleges can help improve the ability of golf vocational training in China.

Transportation is an important factor affecting the balance of regional economic pattern. The construction of high-speed railway enhances the mobility of population, capital, technology and information resources between urban and rural areas. Will it further affect the income gap between urban and rural areas? Based on the nonlinear time-varying factor model, this paper analyzes the convergence of urban-rural income gap with the angle of high-speed railway. After rejecting the assumption of overall convergence in the traditional four economic regions, three convergence clubs of urban-rural income gap were found. For these ordered logit regression model is used to explore the initial factors that may affect the formation of “convergence club”. Empirical results show that the construction of High-speed railway has effectively narrows the urban-rural income gap in China, but it is not the cause of the formation of the three convergence clubs. The convergence effect of High-speed railway on the urban-rural income gap in China is still relatively weak.

ObjectivesTo describe the perceived importance of suggested hamstring injury risk factors according to chief medical officers (CMOs) of European male professional football clubs. A secondary objective was to compare if these perceptions differed between teams with a lower-than-average hamstring injury burden and teams with a higher than average hamstring injury burden.MethodsFirst, CMOs of 15 European professional male football clubs were asked to suggest risk factors for hamstring injury in their club. The perceived importance of the suggested risk factors was then rated by all participants on a 5-graded Likert scale. Participating teams were divided in two groups depending on their hamstring injury burden during the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons. The LOW group consisted of seven teams that had a lower than average hamstring injury burden. The HIGH group consisted of eight teams that had a higher-than-average hamstring injury burden.ResultsTwenty-one risk factors were suggested. The majority were extrinsic in nature, associated with coaching staff, team or club rather than players themselves. ‘Lack of communication between medical staff and coaching staff’ had the highest average importance (weighted average=3.7) followed by ‘Lack of regular exposure to high-speed football during training sessions’ (weighted average=3.6). The HIGH group perceived the player factors fatigue and wellness as more important than the LOW group.ConclusionAccording to CMOs recruited in this study, most risk factors for hamstring injuries are extrinsic and associated with the club and coaching staff, and not the players themselves.

Economic convergence has long been a declared objective of the EU and considered the fundamental mechanism for achieving socioeconomic cohesion. The recent economic crisis had an uneven impact across EU countries and brought a halt to the process of economic and social convergence. In response to this situation, the Europe 2020 strategy, launched in 2010, aimed to deliver social and territorial cohesion in the Member States. In this paper we evaluate the poverty and social exclusion pillar of the Europe 2020 strategy by analysing whether it has promoted convergence across the EU countries in the indicators devised to capture risk of poverty, severe material deprivation, and the number of persons living in households with very low work intensity. Our results for all three rates indicate that convergence occurs in heterogeneous clubs that do not follow a geographic east‒west or south‒north pattern. Convergence within each club, especially for the severe deprivation rate, takes place by means of a catching-up process, with Eastern European levels converging on the Western levels. Finally, not only is there club convergence, but there is no tendency for the clubs to convergence. Poverty and social cohesion indicators show a multi-speed Europe, casting doubt on the sustainability of the overall convergence process in the EU.

The article comprise issues related to the development of floorball in Ukraine and Volyn. The purpose of the study: to investigate the historical aspects of floorball development in Ukraine and Volyn. Materials and methods of research. The study was conducted by a group of teachers of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and Lutsk National Technical University from September 2021 to March 2022. Theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological data have been used. Results of the research. Floorball has been developing in Ukraine since the 2000s. The first efforts to create the floorball federation dates back to 2005. Public Association "Ukrainian Floorball Federation" was established on October 22, 2016. The federation is based on the club system. The UFF consists of 33 clubs. UFF is a member of the International Floorball Federation. The beginning of floorball development in Volyn is connected with the formation of the Wild-West team which was set up in schools 25, Lutsk. It was not the first team in the city , since previously there was a floorball club in 2008 that was based on the youth organization YMCA. This team hasn’t existed for a long time due to the lack of motivaion and development. Thanks to the hard work of Wild-West team leaders and responsible attitude, they have become a club that has grown and developed , namely functions properly to this day Conclusions. Floorball in Ukraine has demonstrated a high speed of popularization and systemic development. The democratic management scheme has added life to the UFF, and pointed to the real influence of clubs on the development of floorball in Ukraine. At various stages, there are problems that hinder the speed of development of this type of game, but usually the problems are not critical or unresolved. These are the things that will definitely make floorball in Ukraine and Volyn a stronger sport and over time they will have a positive impact on the development of floorball in the world.

AbstractThis study examined how the volume of trunk muscles and its bilateral asymmetry are related to club head speed in golfers. Fourteen right-handed male golfers performed five driver shots, and the club head speed for each trial was calculated from a three-dimensional reflective marker position of the club head immediately before impact. The volume of each side of the rectus abdominis, erector spinae, psoas major, quadratus lumborum, lateral abdominal wall muscle, and multifidus was determined using magnetic resonance imaging. For each muscle, the ratio of the larger to smaller side in muscle volume was calculated to assess bilateral asymmetry. The club head speed correlated positively with the volume of each side of the rectus abdominis and erector spinae, left quadratus lumborum, and the asymmetric ratio of the psoas major (r=0.595–0.747), but negatively with the asymmetric ratio of the quadratus lumborum (r=−0.641). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the right erector spinae volume and the asymmetric ratio of the psoas major were significant contributors for the club head speed (R2=0.797). These results indicate that the variation in the club head speed can be strongly explained by the absolute volume and bilateral asymmetry of specific trunk muscles.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine whether the electricity consumption patterns across Indian states do converge. Design/methodology/approach This study considers 18 Indian states spanning over the period 1970-1971 and 2014-2015, using the recently developed Phillips and Sul panel convergence technique that accounts the multiple steady states. Findings The results provide the following insights. First, the authors find evidence of convergence in electricity consumption among all Indian states. This suggests that electricity consumption patterns for Indian states are converging to a common steady state. Second, to provide broader insights, we further investigate the convergence in electricity consumption among user groups such as agriculture, industry, commercial, domestic and miscellaneous. The results reveal that commercial, domestic and miscellaneous groups are also converging. Third, the non-convergence patterns in agriculture and industry enable us to investigate the possibility of clubs or the multiple common steady states. The results indicate the occurrence of three clubs in case of agriculture and two clubs in case of the industry. Fourth, this study also inspects the relative speed of convergence among the user groups. The results reveal the higher speed of convergence in case of the domestic user group. Practical implications The findings enable policymakers to formulate an appropriate energy policy to accommodate the future electricity demand across Indian states and prioritize low electricity consumption states so that they receive a greater share. Originality/value This is the first study that examines the convergence in electricity consumption across Indian states at aggregate and user groups using a new panel club convergence technique.

In daily life, people tend to use mental shortcuts to simplify and speed up their decision-making processes. A halo effect exists if the impression created by a dominant attribute influences how other attributes of an object or subject are judged. It involves a cognitive bias that leads to distorted assessments. However, the halo effect has barely been researched in a sports-related context, although it can substantially contribute to understanding how sport fans think and behave. The objective of this paper is to answer the question that is of interest for both theory and practice of sports marketing: Is there a halo effect in sports? Does the sporting success or failure of a professional soccer team radiate or even outshine other sports-related and non-sports aspects and influence or distort how the club is perceived by its fans? Fans of six soccer clubs selected from the first German soccer league Bundesliga were interviewed. This paper presents the results of an empirical study based on a data set consisting of a total of 4,180 cases. The results of the analyses substantiate the distortion of the fans’ perception with regard to a very diverse range of aspects that is triggered by the sporting success or failure of their favorite club.

When the golf swing is involving all body segments and is thus considered as one of the most complex of sports motions. The aim of this study was to determine the selected kinematic parameters of movement of pelvic and segments of the upper body (shoulder rotation, hip rotation, X-Factor, stretch X-Factor) that affect the club head speed at ball contact in elite golfers. To build the upper body segment model were used spots and their position during the measurement was scanned by 3D kinematic analyzer CODA Motion System. To determine the interindividual stability of performance the coefficient of variation was used and for statistical analysis of the relationship between kinematic and temporal parameters and the club head speed at ball contact the Pearson's correlation coefficient was used. We found a high interindividual stability in maximized shoulders rotation and club head speed at ball contact parameters. When analyzing relationship between the club head speed at ball contact and the observed kinematic parameters of the movement of the upper body only a high relationship with the stretch X-factor parameter was found.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic not only impacted the health of school children directly through SARS-CoV-2 infections, but the associated closures of schools and sports facilities also resulted in long-term negative side effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of COVID-19-related mitigation measures on the health and fitness status of primary school children in Austria. A total of 303 primary school children participated in the longitudinal study. Data on height, weight, and fitness were collected before the COVID-19 pandemic (September 2019) and at one-year intervals (September 2020 and September 2021) during the course of the pandemic. In the first year, from September 2019 to September 2020, there were alarming increases in body mass index (BMI) standard deviation scores (SDSs) (from 0.32 to 0.49) and dramatic decreases in both cardiorespiratory endurance (CRE) (from 0.49 to −0.43) and action speed (from −0.31 to −0.64). In the second year (September 2020 to September 2021), the BMI scores stabilized, and improvements in CRE were observed, especially in the subgroup of children who were members of sports clubs. In the future, more initiatives and projects, in addition to sports club activities, should be started and expanded, particularly in schools, to specifically counteract the observed health damage and, thus, have a positive effect on the development of all children, especially those without sports club membership.

Football clubs in Spain, mainly the First and Second Division ones, have experienced a few changes regarding the forms of communication in the last ten or fifteen years. The communication offices are so professionalized areas that they carry out an intense informative activity, using all the channels at their disposal to get the message to all their audiences, including the media. This study will give a specific vision regarding how these departments behave with news reporters that usually give out information about these clubs; what assets they have, what inconveniences are there, what can they do when they are broadcasting information on a football match, or a training session. In addition, the role of social media will be examined, both the club as a whole and the individual players’. For this, the in-depth interview technique has been used, taking the pulse of eighteen journalists who daily cover the information of the main soccer clubs that are the object of this investigation. The results show that clubs, and therefore the communication departments, do not need the journalist to inform, as the informers have had to develop new habits and, the greater the importance of the entity, the greater are the inconveniences regarding the developing of its informative duty. The way of this research has been more complex than expected. Not all journalists have been open to carry out this work, for this reason the time for its development has been longer than expected. It can be noted that at least one journalist who has been interviewed works in cover the work of the main soccer teams in Spain, most of them in the First Division and others historical at the moment play in the Second Division. Those who have seen fit to ask the interview for the investigation were predisposed from the first moment, even offering to provide data and comments on the differences that exist between their first years of work as journalists of these clubs to current days. They find more difficulties than facilities, which prevent them from carrying out their work as journalists. One of the most important details during the conversations has been the speed with which they have had to adapt to the new demands, having to be up-to-date as far as social networks are concerned. These tools are essential to be able to be informed, in many cases, of what footballers do or say when they do not want to attend to the media, either due to the demands of the club or the player, who is reluctant to answer the questions from journalists. Applications such as Twitter or Instagram have become the best allies for journalists to reach the news on more than one occasion, considering themselves as a primary source. Thequestion is different nowadays because these football players' messages can be read at the same time for the followers. Another surprising aspect of the investigation is the different way some clubs treat journalists. There are remarkable differences between the so-called ‘big clubs’ with the rest of them. There are clubs that prohibit the access to team training sessions or that open the possibility that fans can see how some squads work.

Several golf swing movements have been correlated with the production of club speed in skilled golfers. However, less skilled golfers, such as senior golfers, may not be capable of many of those movements. One golf swing—Minimalist Golf Swing—reduces the downswing range of motion through which a golfer’s body must move to reach the impact positions seen in skilled golfers. The purpose of this study was to assess whether the MGS could improve senior golfers’ ball flight and consistency, and increase their motivation to play golf. Twenty-two seniors (16 males, 6 females), aged 54–81, participated in an 11-session study comprising pretest, intervention, and posttest sessions. During the test sessions, participants hit 20 shots with each of their own 6-iron and driver clubs. Ball movement immediately after impact was measured using a camera-based ball launch monitor. Participants’ motivation to play golf before and after the intervention was assessed using the Sports Motivation Scale II. A mixed effects model was used for the statistical analysis of this repeated measures study, in which participants served as their own controls. Statistically significant per-session results were an increase in the ball’s speed (6-iron and driver) and trajectory (6-iron), and a change in direction (both clubs) from left to slightly right (for right handed golfers). Consistency of ball flight, total motivation and intrinsic motivation increased slightly post-intervention, while amotivation decreased, none significantly. Therefore, some senior golfers can improve ball flight, consistency, and motivation to play golf after six MGS training sessions.

Streszczenie:
This paper offers a quantitative analysis of tentacle extension in squid that integrates several levels of structural organization. The muscular stalks of the two tentacles of squid are rapidly elongated by 70 per cent of resting length during prey capture. A typical duration of the extension is 30 ms in Loligo pealei (with a contracted tentacle length of 93 mm and a strike distance of about 37 mm). In a successful strike, the terminal clubs hit the prey and attach to it via arrays of suckers. A forward dynamics model is proposed for the extension of the tentacular stalk and the forward motion of the terminal club. The stalk is modelled as a longitudinal array of thin muscular discs with extensor muscle fibres oriented parallel to the disc planes. As a disc contracts radially, it lengthens because its volume is constant. The equations of motion for the linked system of discs were formulated and solved numerically. The inputs of the model are the dimensions of the tentacle, passive and active muscle properties such as Hill's force–velocity relationship, myofilament lengths and activation of the muscle fibres. The model predicts the changing geometry of the tentacle, the pressure and stress distribution inside the tentacle and the velocity and kinetic energy distribution of the stalk and club. These predictions are in agreement with kinematic observations from high–speed films of prey capture. The model demonstrates also that the unusually short myosin filaments (reported range 0.5–0.9 micrometre) that characterize the extensor muscles are necessary for the observed extension performance. Myosin filament lengths typical for vertebrate sarcomeres (1.58 micrometre) would lead to a significant reduction in performance. In addition, the model predicts that, to maximize peak velocity of the terminal club, the myosin filaments should be longer at the base and shorter at the tip of the stalk (0.97 micrometre at the base and 0.50 micrometre at the tip for the tentacle size above). This results from differences in dynamic loading along the stalk. Finally, the model allows exploration of the effects of changes in the dimensions and mass of the tentacle and intrinsic speed of the myofilaments on the optimum myosin filament lengths.

Although technical skills are a prerequisite for success in basketball, little is known about how they develop over time. In this study, we model the trajectories of technical skill development in young basketball players and investigate the effects of training experience, training volume, body composition, maturity status, physical performance, and club characteristics on skill development. A total of 264 male basketballers from five age-cohorts (11 to 15 years of age) were followed consecutively over three years using a mixed-longitudinal design. Technical skills, training experience and volume, basic anthropometrics, body composition, biological maturation and physical performance were assessed bi-annually. A multilevel hierarchical linear model was used for trajectory analysis. Non-linear trends (p < 0.01) were observed in speed shot shooting, control dribble, defensive movement, slalom sprint, and slalom dribble. Being more experienced and physically fitter had a significant (p < 0.05) positive effect on technical skill development; greater fat-free mass negatively affected skills demanding quick running and rapid changes of direction with or without the ball (p < 0.05). Training volume and biological age did not explain differences in technical skill development (p > 0.05). Moreover, belonging to different clubs had no significant influence on the technical skills trajectories of players. Our findings highlight the important role that individual differences play, over and beyond club structure, in developing skills. Findings improve our understanding on how technical skills develop during adolescence through training, growth, and biological maturation.

This study aimed to measure the ball trajectory, club face control, and body movements of a long-drive distance golf player (LDP) who excels in international competitions. The participant randomly executed 10 shots of three trajectory types—straight, draw, and fade—using a driver in an indoor facility. The results indicated that the fade shot exhibited a significantly longer ball carry distance (S: 329.7 ± 31.7, D: 301.8 ± 30.6, F: 345.7 ± 18.4 yards). The offline distance also showed a significant increase (S: 3.6 ± 37.3, D: −12.0 ± 26.4, F: 30.8 ± 42.2 yards) for the fade shot. If shots exceeding the 60-yard width of the offline distance resulting in invalid attempts were counted, there were 2 of 10 attempts for straight, 0 of 10 attempts for draw, and 4 of 10 attempts for fade. Analysis of the ball trajectory of draw shots revealed a statistically significant trend towards lower peak height and descent angle. In all three trajectories, there were no significant differences observed in ball speed (S: 189.3±6.3, D: 192.1±5.0, F: 193.3±4.1 mph) and club head speed (S: 137.2 ± 1.6, D: 137.0 ± 1.2, F: 137.7 ± 2.2 mph). For the draw shots, the club path exhibited in-to-out trajectory, moving the club face, and the face angle was open during the ball impact. It is evident that even in golf players aiming for the maximum distance in a single shot, club head speed and grip speed tend to remain relatively constant. The findings indicate that the LDP executes precise movement and face control tailored to the three ball trajectories, demonstrating sophisticated motor control.

The aim of this study is to produce the game-based ABC running exercise model for children ages 6-12 years by testing the effectiveness of increasing the speed of 30 meters short distance running in athletes aged 6-12 years. The research method used in this study is the research and development method of Borg and Gall by using 10 stages. The research subjects in this study are at the age of 6-12 years of athletic at the athletic club in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The study begins with a data analysis of requirements, planning, product making, testing, revision and final products. The model feasibility test presents 3 experts consisting of 2 athletic lecturers and 1 national athletic trainer. The effectiveness test model uses a 30 meters speed parameter test involving 40 athletes aged 6-12 years consisting of 2 athletic clubs in Yogyakarta Province. Increasing the running speed of 30 meters shows the significance of t-count = 45.64, db = 19 and p-value = 0.00 < 0.05, for the average N-gain of 56.30, which means that the category of interpretation is "quite effective”. This means that there are significant differences in the 30 meters run speed of athletes before and after being given a training model. It can be concluded that the game-based ABC running exercise model developed is effective enough to increase the running speed of 30 meters in athlete’s ages 6-12 years.

The on-plane rotations of the inclined axle-chain system on the functional swing plane (FSP) can represent the angular motions of the golfer–club system closely. The purpose of this study was to identify key performance factors in golf through a comprehensive investigation of the association between the angular motion characteristics of the axle-chain system and clubhead speed in skilled golfers. Sixty-six male golfers (handicap ≤ 3) performed full-effort shots in three club conditions: driver, 5-iron, and pitching wedge. Swing trials were captured with an optical motion capture system, and the hip/shoulder lines, upper lever, club, and wrist angular positions/velocities were calculated. Time, angular position, range of rotation, and peak angular velocity parameters were extracted and their correlation coefficients (Pearson and Spearman) to actual and normalized clubhead speeds were computed (p < 0.05). Higher clubhead speed was associated with shorter downswing phases, larger rotation ranges (hip/shoulder lines, and upper lever), larger hip–shoulder separation at impact, delayed transitions (hip line and upper lever), faster rotations (backswing, downswing, and impact), and larger angular velocity losses (hip line and upper lever) with additional club- and body-specific correlations. Clubhead speed was not well associated with wrist cock angles/ranges, X-factors/stretches, and timings of the downswing peak.

Objective:To investigate whether the structural connectivity of the brain's rich-club organization is altered in patients with primary progressive MS and whether such changes to this fundamental network feature are associated with disability measures. Methods:We recruited 37 patients with primary progressive MS and 21 healthy controls for an observational cohort study. Structural connectomes were reconstructed based on diffusion-weighted imaging data using probabilistic tractography and analyzed with graph theory. Results:We observed the same topological organization of brain networks in patients and controls. Consistent with the originally defined rich-club regions, we identified superior frontal, precuneus, superior parietal, and insular cortex in both hemispheres as rich-club nodes. Connectivity within the rich club was significantly reduced in patients with MS (p = 0.039). The extent of reduced rich-club connectivity correlated with clinical measurements of mobility (Kendall rank correlation coefficient τ = −0.20, p = 0.047), hand function (τ = −0.26, p = 0.014), and information processing speed (τ = −0.20, p = 0.049).Conclusions:In patients with primary progressive MS, the fundamental organization of the structural connectome in rich-club and peripheral nodes was preserved and did not differ from healthy controls. The proportion of rich-club connections was altered and correlated with disability measures. Thus, the rich-club organization of the brain may be a promising network phenotype for understanding the patterns and mechanisms of neurodegeneration in MS.

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to compare the game movement demands between professional club and senior international rugby union players. Data were obtained from 188 players from 4 professional club teams (Rabo Direct Pro12) and the affiliated international team during the 2014–15 season. Players were tracked by global positioning system (GPS) sampled at 10 Hz and were categorized into 6 different positional groups (front row forwards, FRF; second row forwards, SRF; back row forwards, BRF; half backs, HB; centres, C; outside backs, OB) and separated into playing standard (club vs. international level). Data on distance, distance per minute, high speed running, maximum velocity, sprint distance and efforts as well as repeated high-intensity locomotion efforts (RHILE) were collected. Significant effects (P<0 .05) between club and international were found for RHILE in all 6 positional groupings with a higher number of RHILE in international vs. club games. Significantly (P<0.05) greater total distance and meterage were also shown in international compared to club for OB position. The RHILE differences between club and international games whatever the positions appear of practical relevance for coaches and performance staff to concentrate on training protocols to enhance this quality as well as evaluation methods.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the club characteristics and vertical force distribution of pitch and lob shots of 20 and 30 m in female golfers from the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (age: 21.3 ± 1.7 years; height: 161.5 ± 4.4 cm; body weight: 60.3 ± 5.6 kg; career: 7.5 ± 1.7 years). Ten infrared cameras and two force plates were used to record the swing of each golfer. The test golf swings included a pitch and lob shot to target distances of 20 and 30 m. The carry distance for the 20 and 30 m shots was affected by club shaft angle, loft angle, projected ball angle, and club head speed. Pitch and lob shots were distinguished by ball position, club shaft angle, loft angle, vertical force distribution, projected ball angle, and club head speed. For the lob shot, the ball was positioned about 6 cm toward the left foot from the center of the heel marker, compared to the ball position in the pitch shot for the 20 and 30 m shots. In addition, the loft angle was 10° wider and the vertical force of the right foot was 4% greater than for the pitch shot. The projection angle of the ball for the 30 m lob shot was 57°, while that for the pitch shot was about 47°. Taken together, the within-player between-task design and the realistic well-practiced goal-directed experimental tasks provided an opportunity to determine how individual players modify their control strategies to regulate shot distance and ball trajectory when using the same club. These findings have practical implications for coaches and for golfers aiming to improve their short game ability.

Golf is a skill-based sport which requires optimal swing mechanics to improve golf performance. As practitioners seek training methods to improve swing kinetics without compromising swing kinematics, loading through wearable resistance is one training modality which enables the golf swing to be performed in an overloaded manner. The purpose of this research therefore was to explore the acute effects of wearable resistance on golf swing performance measures. A randomised cross-over design was used with five skilled female golfers (22.0 ± 2.5 years, 163.1 ± 3.3 cm, 57.1 ± 3.4 kg and handicap 4 ± 1.2) who performed a series of golf shots with and without wearable resistance of 1.6 kg (∼2.8% body mass) attached laterally to the posterior trail side of the body. Flightscope launch monitor and force plate technology were used to quantify changes in club head speed and ground reaction forces. Using a paired t-test used for statistical analysis, significant ( p < 0.05) acute increases were found in club head speed (3.5%, p = 0.03), relative vertical ground reaction forces (11.4%, lead side, p = 0.01) and relative mediolateral ground reaction forces (7.1%, trail side, p = 0.03) with wearable resistance as compared to the unloaded condition. Wearable resistance enables a player to perform golf shots in an overloaded manner resulting in significant improvements in club head speed. Future research is required to assess the long-term adaptations to this form of loading on golf swing performance.
