La transition écologique fait écho à la plus récente étape d’un processus d’intégration du paramètre écologique dans les sociétés humaines. Héritière du courant de la modernisation écologique, elle peut avantageusement être mise en dialogue avec les travaux des économistes qui se sont intéressés aux réformes du système économique impulsées par les impératifs environnementaux. Plus spécifiquement, l’économie écologique institutionnaliste offre des outils pour penser la transformation du système économique non plus comme un ajustement exclusivement technique, mais comme un processus social. Dans son versant pratique, le courant de la transition est aussi nourri par une première génération de débats autour du développement durable. Mais les enjeux de transformation de l’économie y sont plus explicites, sans pour autant que s’impose une lecture univoque de la trajectoire vers une économie verte. Traversée par des courants réformateurs tout autant que par des discours et des pratiques de rupture, la transition semble ainsi devenue le lieu d’un travail social où se construit peu à peu une société post-écologique.

Résumé Résumé : Ce propos introductif au colloque sur la modernisation de l'entreprise met en relief l'origine des oppositions profondes entre l'entreprise française et polonaise, évoluant dans deux types de sociétés industrielles. Or, après plusieurs décennies de "modernisations" socio-économiques fictives, l'économie du Parti en Pologne vient de s'écrouler. Un champ nouveau s'ouvre alors à une réflexion sociologique sur les modalités de transition d'un type d'entreprise industrielle à un autre. Une mise en relief des spécificités d'une société postsoviétique pourrait permettre d'apporter des correctifs aux remèdes "à l'occidentale" qu'on cherche à appliquer aujourd'hui aux économies est-européennes.

Depuis la fin des années 1980, de « nouvelles fondations privées » ont vu le jour, caractérisées par une volonté d’innover dans le domaine de la philanthropie. Issues d’une culture de marché, elles s’inscrivent dans un processus actif de redéfinition de la gouvernance des sociétés et des responsabilités respectives du marché, de l’État et des organisations de la société civile. À propos d’un exemple québécois, l’article développe l’idée que l’émergence de ces « nouvelles fondations » signale une transition en cours d’un « régime institutionnel » caractéristique d’une « économie de marché coordonnée » à celui d’une « économie de marché libérale », ou du moins que beaucoup d’élites économiques voudraient voir libéralisée, ce qui ne semble toutefois pas être l’aspiration d’une majorité de la population.

Cette these a pour objet d'expliquer l'etat identitaire des femmes dans la societe iranienne entrainee dans un processus de transformations economiques et culturelles. Ce processus presentant des moments de rupture et de crise, n'est pas assimile avec le meme rythme par les differentes couches de la population. C'est dans cette situation de crise que le probleme de l'identite se pose et que la nostalgie d'une "territorialite de l'identite cotoie le desir d'evasion vers des horizons inexplores. La problematique de l'identite se posant a la frontiere du meme et de l'autre, il s'agit de reconnaitre le meme dans toutes ses manifestations et chez tous ses detenteurs. Dans une societe frappee par l'autoritarisme, c'est la loi du pere qui delimite les contours du meme et rejette tout ce qui ne s'y situe pas. C'est du positionnement des femmes par rapport au code du pere et de la delicate distance qu'elles doivent etablir entre elles et ce code qu'il s'agit dans ce travail. C'est une recherche faite dans un vaet-vient entre l'heritage identitaire ideologique passe et recent et l'actualite de la vie des femmes. Elle essaie de mettre en lumiere des elements de structure de l'identite et ceux qui relevent de la conjoncture historique de l'etat identitaire. Au terme de cette recherche il apparait que le sentiment de valeur est le point nodal de l'identite des femmes iraniennes. La periode de la transition s'accompagne d'une confusion axiologique pour les femmes. Confusion qui est due a l'inscription dans leur vie d'une equation dont les termes sont : feminite=enfermement=devalorisation. .
THE SUBJECT OF THIS THESIS IS TO EXPLAIN IDENTITARY STATE OF WOMEN IN THE IRANIAN SOCIETY INVOLVED IN A PROCESS OF ECONOMICAL AND CULTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS; THIS PROCESS WHILE PRESENTING MOMENTS OF RUPTURE AND CRISIS, IS NOT ASSIMILATED WITH THE SAME RHYTHM BY THE DIFFERENT STATAS OF THE POPULATION. IT IS IN A SUCH SITUATION OF CRISIS THAT THE PROBLEM OF IDENTITY IS SET AND THAT THE NOSTALGIA OG A "TERRITORIALITY" OF IDENTITYCOAST WITH THE DESIR OF ESCAPE TOWARDS UNEPLORED HORIZONS. IN A SOCIETY SRUK BY AUTHORITARISM IT IS THE LAW OF THE FATHER WHICH DELIMITS THE OUTLINES OF THE SELF AND REJECTS ALL WHICH IS NOT COMPRISED IN IT. THE POSITION OF WOMEN WITH REGARD TO THE CODE OF THE FATHER AND THE DELICATE DISTANCE THEY SHOULD SET BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND THIS CODE IS THE QUESTION OF THIS WORK. IT IS A research MADE INTO A COME AND GO BETWEEN THE FORMER AND THE RECENT IDEOLOGICAL INHERITANCE AND THE ACTUALITY OF WOMEN'S LIFE. Chaque moment de I'histoire voit naître des modes particuliers d'expression artistique qui sont en correspondance avec Ies manières de penser, les goûts et Ie caractère politique. Dans Ie monde d'aujourd'hui, la société iranienne, héritière d'une civilisation ancienne, est en qu&te de son identité. Ce pays, dans Ie domaine des arts visuels, avait ses propres particularités aujourd'hui remises en question. La photographie est un moyen d'expression typique d'une société établie sur la civilisation technicienne, consciente des buts qu'elle s'assigne, d'esprit rationaliste et fondée sur une hiérarchie de professions. En m&me temps, elle est devenue pour cette société un instrument de premier ordre. A partir d'un expose sur I'évolution de la photographie en Iran, nous nous demandons si Ie dispositif technique pourrait permettre la prise en compte des valeurs traditionnelles, que nous nommons aussi «régionales », du pays. Cette recherche implique une interrogation sur la capacité de I'acte photographique lui-m&me. S'agit-il d'un moyen a travers lequel Ie patrimoine historique et culturel d'une société comme celle d'iran. Puisse se manifester ? Au contraire Ies limites du dispositif d'une part, la dominance de la culture capitaliste, attaché a I'économie mondiale, de I'autre, n'affaiblissent elles pas la culture, les goûts et les arts régionaux pour finir avec une sorte d'harmonisation et d'homogénéisation des valeurs ? Au-delà de ces interrogations générales, Ia thèse évoque des limites liées a I'idéologie souveraine qui a eu des effets sur les activités artistiques dont celles de la photographie. Toute analyse des caractéristiques de la photographie iranienne doit tenir compte de cet élément. Mais finalement les obligations de I'industrie et Ie développement technologique dépendent de lois scientifiques et de calculs techniques qui échappent a I'idéologie. S'agissant de I'appareil technologique qu'est la photographie, aussi prégnantes soient les opinions « régionales et Ies valeurs traditionnelles, des lois de production et de fonctionnement tendent a imposer leur logique propre. L'objectif d'un artiste utilisant un tel appareil technique est de découvrir les productions particulières qui ne peuvent être créée que par I'intermédiaire de cet appareil. Une telle rencontre avec Ie dispositif technique suscite une sorte d'affaiblissement dans I'approche idéologique de I'artiste, condition d'une libération ultérieure.

Depuis la fin des années 1980, les réformes agraires, la transition vers l'économie de marché, l'assouplissement des mouvements de population, l'autorisation de commerce privé, la nouvelle loi foncière et l'urbanisation dynamisent les mutations du monde rural, les processus de périurbanisation et métropolisation. L'épuisement des réserves foncières, l'élargissement des limites urbaines, les investissements internationaux marquent l'extension de Hanoi. Ce mouvement " rénovateur " constitue le moteur de l'agriculture périurbaine au cœur de nouveaux enjeux. Le retour à l'économie familiale permet de diversifier les systèmes de production et d'améliorer les revenus. L'augmentation de la demande, du niveau de vie et des exigences de consommation entraînent le développement d'une ceinture maraîchère, fruitière et horticole. La décollectivisation et la restructuration des coopératives ne font pas disparaître les structures communautaires. L'Etat appelle à la participation des acteurs privés pour le développement de l'industrie agroalimentaire, des marché de gros et des filières. Les investissements publics faibles et le cadre législatif flou, laissent place aux réseaux privés. Face à la différenciation économico-sociale, les agriculteurs sont attentifs aux possibilités de valorisation du foncier et d'insertion aux marchés dans le cadre de stratégies multifonctionnelles. Outre les problèmes environnementaux, la concurrence entre activités urbaines et agricoles renvoit à l'utilisation du foncier et la reconversion des ruraux. A partir d'enquêtes, nous dégageons la spécificité des espaces périurbains et leur trajectoire d'insertion urbaine qui aboutit à de nouveaux paysages
Since the late 80s, changes in rural areas, a periurbanization and metropolization process have been generated by agrarian reforms, economic transition policies, easier population movement, private business approval, new land use regulations and urbanization development. Hanoi's extension is characterized by the decline of land availability, enlargement of urban limits, and international investments. This "reformist" movement is the driving force of periurban farming that reflects new socio-economic and political issues. The return to household's economy enables a variety of production systems and an improvement of family income. Increase of the demand for consumer goods and new urban living standards are leading to a development of an agricultural belt. Low public investments, and vagueness of the regulatory framework set an open range for private networks. While the State calls for private economic sector participation in order to develop agro-industries and marketing channels, decollectivization and the restructuring of cooperatives haven't erased communal structures. Socio-economic differentiation leads to a greater awareness among farmers in terms of land speculation or commercial and employment opportunities trough strategies of multi-activities. Besides the land use problems, the competition between urban and agricultural activities also raises new issues related to environmental degradation and socio-economic reconversion of the rural population. Initiating by field surveys, we extricate the specificity of suburban spaces and their path within urban insertion through these strategies leading to the apparition of new landscapes

Le but de cette thèse est de suivre les sabbatéens saloniciens pendant la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. La vie économique, sociale et culturelle des individus sabbatéens est analysée dans le contexte d’une ville portuaire, Salonique, qui a vécu des transformations économiques, sociales, urbaines, démographiques et administratives. Ce travail analyse la participation des individus sabbatéens à ces changements, à la fois comme sujets et objets, en se concentrant sur le rôle des sabbatéens dans ces transformations et l’impact de celles-ci sur la vie des sabbatéens, à la fin du XIXe siècle, à Salonique. Il met en évidence la pluralité économique, sociale et culturelle des sabbatéens vivant à la même époque et souligne les ruptures et les continuités sur trois générations de sabbatéens, du milieu du XIXe à la première décennie du XXe siècle. Cette thèse analyse aussi les relations complexes qu’entretiennent les sabbatéens avec les autres Saloniciens et la ville de Salonique. Elle cherche à répondre aux questions suivantes : Peut-on parler d’une « communauté sabbatéenne » ? Quand on se réfère à la communauté sabbatéenne, que désigne-t-on exactement ? Cette appartenance communautaire détermine-t-elle l’identité des acteurs, ou existe-t-il d’autres identités qui comptent autant ou davantage à leurs yeux, et leur permettent de se constituer en tant qu’individus ?
The aim of this thesis is to trace Salonican Sabbatians during the second half of the nineteenth century. Economic, social and cultural life of Sabbatian individuals is analysed in the context of a port city, Salonica, which lived through economic, social, urban, demographic and administratif transformations. It analyzes the participation of Sabbatian individuals to these changes, as subject and objects, by concentrating on the role the Sabbatians have in these transformations and the impact of these changes on the Sabbatians’ lives at the end of the nineteenth century in Salonica. It highlights the plurality of economic, social and cultural lives of Sabbatians living at the same time and the ruptures and the continuities in three Sabbatian generations, from the middle of the nineteenth to the first decennie of the twentieth century. Through this examination, this thesis analyzes also the complex relations that the Sabbatians maintain with the other Salonicans and the city of Salonica. It seeks to answer the following questions : Can we talk about a « Sabbatian community » ? What do we understand exactly when we refer to the Sabbatian community ? Does this belonging determine their identity or are there other identities which count more in their eyes and allow them to form themselves as individuals ?

Le muriani, pieve (canton) regroupant 5 communes, constitue la region frontiere de deux micro-regions du nord-est de la corse, la castagniccia et la plaine orintale. De la conquete francaise a l'epoque actuelle, les espaces littoraux et montagnard de la pieve vont evoluer, passant d'un modele d'auto-subsis-tance pre-capitaliste endogene au developpement de nouvelles economies motrices de type capitaliste. Jusque vers les annees 1860 on peut considerer le modele traditionnel comme dominant les influences exogenes. Organisee autour des modes de production agricole (principalement castaneicole) et pastoral, la societe de muriani se hierarchise en fonction de l'acces a la propriete fonciere, jalousement conservee et transmise de generations en generation. Avec le second empire se produit une acceleration des mutations economiques, destabilisant les anciens equilibres socio-economiques et orientant les activites de production vers la specialisation, tant agri-cole (cedrats) qu'industrielle (usines de tanin). Parallellement on assiste au renforcement du role joue par l'etat et ses organismes, et a une mise en dependance generalisee des diverses couches sociales, souvent placees devant le choix de l'emigration ou de l'assistance. Vers les annees 1960, une nouvelle structuration economique succede a la faillite de toutes les anciennes formes de developpement tentees jusque alors. Tandis que la plaine se specialise dans les cultures de primeurs (clementiniers) et le tourisme, la montagne voit la regression de ses activites traditionnelles avec la mise en place d'un pastoralisme debride. Les remodelages touchant de facon discriminatoires les espaces depeu-ples de la montagne et les concentrations en voie d'urbanisation de la plaine, posent a la societe du muriani les questions que l'on peut etendre a la corse dans son ensemble, relatives au developpement capi-taliste et a ses consequences sur les societes peripheriques.

Cette thèse analyse la fonction politique et identitaire du football en Espagne pendant le franquisme et la transition démocratique, en se focalisant particulièrement sur deux clubs : le Real Madrid et le FC Barcelone. L’un est considéré comme le meilleur ambassadeur de l’Espagne à l’étranger. L’autre, un instrument pour la mobilisation de l’opposition démocratique, et surtout un refuge pour les revendications de types identitaires à cette époque. Réaliser une étude sur le football peut sembler a priori ne pas s’inscrire dans une démarche scientifique. Pourtant, au-delà du sport et du divertissement, le football est un fait social, dont l’analyse est essentielle à la compréhension des sociétés contemporaines. Il mérite de ce fait une attention particulière, notamment lorsque l’on s’intéresse à l’histoire de l’Espagne, laquelle est extrêmement révélatrice des enjeux socioculturels et politiques que revêt le football dans ce pays
This thesis analyzes the political and social function of football in Francoist Spain and during the democratic transition, focusing particularly on two clubs: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. One is considered the best ambassador of Spain abroad. And the other is an instrument for the mobilization of the democratic opposition, and above all a hub for ethno-social identity related claims at that time. A study about football may at first seem to not to belong within the scientific approach. Yet, beyond sport and entertainment, football is a social phenomenon, the analysis of which is essential to the understanding of contemporary societies. It deserves attention, especially when one is interested in the history of Spain, which is extremely revealing of the socio-cultural and political stakes that football has in this country

La thèse étudie le rôle des "think tanks" dans le processus de la transition, dite démocratique, en Bulgarie après la chute du mur en 1989. C'est une des recherches pionnières sur ces nouveaux acteurs dont les pratiques et les discours s'imposent non seulement à l'Est, mais aussi à l'Ouest de l'Europe, contribuant à une transformation profonde des institutions de la modernité, autant dans le domaine académique et universitaire. Ce travail analyse à la fois les processus et les conditions historiques locales qui ont permis l'émergence de cette nouvelle élite, proche du milieu académique et intellectuel et du monde des ONG, tout en situant les think tanks bulgares à l'échelle des processus globaux et des réseaux internationaux des experts en démocratisation. Ainsi, la thèse contribue à affiner et enrichir les études anthologiques récentes sur la culture des projets, sur le rôle politique de la société civile et l'interaction entre le local et le global
This doctoral thesis studies the role of "think tanks" in the process of transition and democratisation in Bulgaria after the end of the cold war in 1989. It is a pionneer research on these new political and social actors expanding their practices and discourse not only in Eastern, but also in Western Europe, thus contributing to the deep transformation of the institutions of modernity, in the political as well as in the academic field. This study analyses both the local process and historical conditions that gave birth to this new elite, close to the academic and intellectual field as well as to the NGO sector, but also situates the Bulgarian think tanks in the context of the globalisation process and its international networks of democracy makers. Thus, the thesis contritbutes to sharpen and widen the recent research in anthroplogy and political science on international poject culture, civil society and interaction between the local and the global

Notre étude porte sur les vallées de Cize et Baïgorry, en Basse-Navarre (Pays Basque nord). Après la constitution d'un important socle documentaire, trois étapes ont été déterminées dans la construction des systèmes pastoraux et sociaux. La 1ère va du milieu du XIIIe s. à la fin du XVe s. , avec la constitution de vastes espaces pastoraux représentant des enjeux de multiples acteurs. La 2ème étape est celle des XVIe et XVIIe s. Durant lesquels la Basse-Navarre, qui appartenait à la Navarre depuis le XIIe s. , est réunie à la France. La frontière franco-espagnole bouleverse les espaces pastoraux. Au XVIIIe s. , de nouvelles catégories de maisons se différencient par leurs droits sur les espaces pastoraux. Malgré des conjonctures variables, toute la période étudiée est marquée par la lutte des maisons dominantes pour la préservation du système social et pastoral traditionnel. The valleys of Cize and Baïgorry belong to Basse-Navarre (North Basque Country). This study has begun by the search for documentation. Social and pastoral systems had been built in 3 stages. During the 1st one, from the XIIIth c. To the end of the XVth c. , large pastoral spaces are made up, being stakes for various actors. The 2nd stage is during the XVIth and the XVIIth c. : the frontier between France and Spain changes the pastoral spaces. This period is distinguished by the writing of pastoral agreements and the begin of a social mutation. In the XVIIIth c. , new categories of houses become differenciated by their rights in the pastoral spaces. In spite of variable situations, all the studied period is characterized by the struggle of the predominant houses to the preservation of the traditional social and pastoral system. The last part relates the mecanisms of transitions wich end up at the construction of the landscapes and the territories

Principales places d’importations et de transformation des énergies d’origine fossile, les espaces portuaires concentrent des défis de mutations industrielles, de réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre et de diversification du bouquet énergétique. En mobilisant les cadres théoriques de l’écologie industrielle et de la complexité, ce travail de de thèse vise à à mieux comprendre et caractériser les processus d’adaptation actuels développés au sein de ces territoires. Appréhendé dans une acception large de son périmètre, le territoire portuaire se révèle être un formidable terrain d’expérimentations de nouvelles pratiques basées sur une plus grande coopération entre acteurs, à la croisée des chemins entre une économie circulaire globale et une écologie industrielle locale. Partant d’un retour d’expériences mené à l’échelle internationale de démarches d’écologie industrielle, ayant permis la mise en évidence de différents modèles territoriaux d’organisation, ce travail de recherche a ensuite comparé l’évolution socio-écologique de trois territoires portuaires européen et asiatiques. Si la dynamique de métropolisation semble apparaître comme une constante dans la plupart de ces grands espaces côtiers, celle-ci contribue aussi à la complexification de la matrice territoriale portuaire. De nouvelles approches d’ordre organisationnel viennent ainsi compléter les évolutions technologiques. Dans une troisième partie, l’étude de l’espace portuaire de Marseille-Fos a ainsi permis de mettre en lumière un phénomène d’interactions fonctionnelles opéré au sein du territoire, au profit de sa transition progressive vers une société à bas-carbone
One of the major issues facing our industrialized societies is the energy transition, which induces major industrial and social transformations. Port and harbor areas, which are strategic places concerning import and transformation of fossil fuels, concentrate these industrial challenges, dealing with mitigation of emissions of greenhouse gases and diversification of energy mix. By mobilizing the theoretical frameworks of industrial ecology and complexity, this PhD work aims to better understand and characterize current adaptation process developed within these territories. In this work, we consider the industrial, urban and agricultural subsystems present in a port area. When doing this, the port area is proving to be a formidable field of experimentation of new practices based on greater cooperation between players at the crossroads between a global circular economy and a local industrial ecology. Starting from an international feedback which enabled the identification of different territorial organization models, this research then compared the socio-ecological evolution of three European and Asian port areas. If the dynamics of metropolisation seem to appear as a constant in most of these large coastal areas, it also contributes to the whole complexity of the port territorial matrix. Indeed, new organizational approaches now complement technological developments. In the third part, the study of the port area of Marseille-Fos has enabled to highlight a phenomenon of functional interactions operated within the territory for the benefit of its gradual transition to a low-carbon society

AbstractMolecular crystals have a regularly packed structure, and their physical properties often depend on intramolecular and intermolecular interactions. Here, we review the crystal jumping phenomena under a thermal stimulus (thermosalient phenomenon). Thermosalient phenomena are characterized by thermal phase transitions and anisotropic lattice expansion/contraction at a microscopic scale and jumping behavior through bending/deformation/rotation/cleavage of crystals at a macroscopic scale. The absence of strong intermolecular interaction in the crystal and the misalignment of the crystal plane associated with the phase transition are explained as factors causing the thermosalient phenomena. In this chapter, various case studies with representative molecular crystals that exhibit the thermosalient phenomenon are explained in detail.

Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) rotor hover predictions are obtained using computational fluid dynamics simulations. Laminar-turbulent transitional modeling predictions are made with the OVERFLOW 2.2 compressible flow solver on structured, overset grids. Solutions are generated based on a tip Mach number of 0.58 for varying collective pitch angles. In addition to isolated rotor predictions, results are generated for rotor-fuselage interactions using the PSP rotor and Rotor Body Interaction (ROBIN) fuselage. Hover performance is assessed and compared to available measurements obtained in the NASA Langley Research Center Rotor Test Cell (RTC). Grid generation techniques and computational methods for both cases are described. Rotor flow field behavior and transition locations are discussed for both cases along with the impact of transition modeling.

Previous efforts demonstrated the ability to achieve a 30% weight reduction for a MIL-DTL-27422D Phase I test cube construction with Protection Level A gunfire performance, using a lightweight 2-ply exoskeleton design to replace the 4-ply construction otherwise required to meet crash impact test requirements. An additional 20% reduction in weight was projected by replacing the natural gum rubber (NGR) used in conventional fuel bladder constructions with a lightweight formulation. This paper reviews the technical efforts executed to support the transition of the lightweight exoskeleton construction to the Apache AH-64 helicopter. The fuel bladders made with the lightweight sealant were 15.5% lighter for the AH-64 FWD fuel bladder and 13.2% lighter for the AFT. Additional weight savings based on the 2-ply exoskeleton construction was not realized as the existing AH-64 fuel bladders are already relatively lightweight constructions. The final AH-64 fuel bladders demonstrated the ability to be qualified to all MIL-DTL-27422E performance requirements; however, the program concluded without demonstrating Protection Level A gunfire performance. Importantly, there did not appear to be any discernable difference in the self-sealing performance of the fuel bladders made with the lightweight sealant and the constructions based on conventional NGR sealant. While additional work may be required to address this performance deficiency, there were several issues that were noted during the Phase II gunfire testing that should be reviewed and resolved prior to additional testing.

Transition from hover to forward flight and vice versa represents the most critical flight phase of tiltwing aircraft. Despite its importance to ensure a safe operation, the aerodynamics of this maneuver are not sufficiently understood. This paper focuses on the study of transition flight for NASA's six-passenger tiltwing air taxi by means of high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics simulations. On the basis of a static trim solution, four points within the transition corridor are analyzed: transition mode at wing tilt angles of 60! and 44!, and airplane mode at airspeeds of 110 kt and 155 kt. We investigate the balance of forces and moments for rotor-borne and wing-borne regimes, and how rotor-on-rotor and rotor-on-wing interactions affect performance. The simulations indicate that during the early stages of transition, the vortices remain in close proximity to the proprotors, inducing large fluctuations on the order of the mean blade loading. Additionally, the blowing and swirling effects of the proprotor wakes delay flow separation over a portion of the wing. The mid-transition conditions appear to be critical, with extensive regions of separated flow over the wing. In airplane mode, proprotor-wing slipstream effects can be exploited to enhance lift generation. The results of this paper contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex aerodynamic interactions during transition flight to enable a safer and more efficient operation of tiltwing aircraft.

La transition énergétique ne pourra pleinement se réaliser que si le droit lui sert de véhicule. Or, l’épreuve qu’elle fait subir à celui-ci est particulièrement intense. D’abord le droit se doit-il de formaliser et de mettre en cohérence des objectifs politiques diffus, tant d’un point de vue géographique (une articulation devant être trouvée entre les trajectoires internationale, européenne, nationale et locale sur ces sujets), que d’un point de vue matériel (les priorités énergétiques ne se construisant pas systématiquement en phase avec celles du climat, de la science ou de la société). Ensuite, le droit doit se parer d’outils pour atteindre ces objectifs énergétiques, en tenant pleinement compte des résistances démocratiques et sociales qui peuvent légitimement indexer la réalisation de ces derniers. Contraints, qui plus est, par une injonction climatique de plus en plus pressante, ces équilibres délicats induits par la transition énergétique perturbent la stabilité du droit. Il suffit, pour s’en convaincre, de constater le flot ininterrompu d’ajustements, sinon de renouvellements complets des règles juridiques intéressant le secteur de l’énergie. Au fond, c’est autant le contenu substantiel des règles de droit, que la construction, l’efficacité et la résilience de celles-ci qui se trouvent continuellement mises à l’épreuve de la transition énergétique.

Au Brésil, pendant le XXe siècle, les corps et les pratiques homosexuels étaient constamment réprimés et censurés ; la prédominance d’une morale conservatrice a contribué à la promotion d’actions discriminatoires de la part de la société civile et de l’État. Aujourd’hui, l’émergence des discours qui promeuvent la reconnaissance des LGBTQIAP+ cherche à répondre aux demandes sociales et médiatiques. Les demandes sociales se réfèrent à l’inclusion de cette minorité qui se constitue comme une « identité concessive » (Oliveira 2021) par rapport à des constructions identitaires hétérocisnormatives. Les demandes médiatiques correspondent aux intérêts marchands qui s’adaptent aux exigences sociales et donnent lieu à l’insertion de personnages LGBTQIAP+ dans diverses sphères de communication. Afin d’aborder ces transitions socioculturelles et médiatiques, nous mobilisons des concepts de la sémiotique pour comparer la répression des homosexuels qui a été mise en évidence dans les articles d’opinion du journal Lampião da Esquina (1978-1981) avec la présence de nombreux corps LGBTQIAP+ dans les productions médiatiques contemporaines.

Fethullah Gülen’s works and movement have aimed to mend the tensions and fissures, spe- cifically along racial and ideological lines on both practical and theoretical levels that are emerging in this rapidly globalising world. Within a civil society theoretical framework, this paper addresses the knowledge developed on Islamically inspired forms of activism, before proceeding to an examination of key civil society actors with focus on the Gülen movement. Islam-based forms of organisation are conventionally presented as deficient in ‘civility’ or even antithetical to civil principles. The danger is that they are then simply excluded from normative definitions of civil society and their positive role in it diminished. In this respect, this paper argues for expanding the concepts through which we view and come to judge civil- ity and citizenship. The role of shared values in building civil society is facilitated by expand- ing the concepts through which we measure and exclude crucial components. Recognising the value systems behind Islamic forms of organisation helps develop better tools for deci- phering the shared values among various parts of civil society. Focusing on the Gülen movement, through an investigation of its beliefs, values and prac- tices, the paper illustrates not only its contribution in terms of expanding civil societies in- ternationally, but also how – according to the criteria used for measuring its effect – it is positioned as a leading example of dealing with contemporary challenges. It is hoped that this work will contribute to laying the epistemological groundwork for those struggling against Islamophobia and striving to expose the values shared among all actors in a healthy and vibrant civil society.

Civil society is generally associated with the presence of voluntary, non-governmental civic and social organisations, which are run by informed citizens and assume responsibility for monitoring state bodies and operations and mobilising available resources to maintain order and efficiency in the functioning of both state and society. Early civil society theorists argued the relevance of such voluntary associations to achieving a stable and functioning democracy. But what if the local conditions prevent the formation of such associations – if the social landscape is characterised by communal conflicts stemming from deeply entrenched ethno- religious differences? The reality of such conditions makes it imperative that strategies are re-formulated in ethno-religiously fractured societies, where what divides different segments of the population is more than what unites them. This paper argues that it is possible to develop such strategies. The argument is based on field research in Mardin on the activities of the faith-based Gülen movement. This group has succeeded in forging policies and programmes that bring different ethno-religious communities together as a necessary first step towards civil society: common problems facing the different ethno-religious communities are identified, then solid services to address those problems are provided, requiring collaborative effort by the different ethno-religious communities. In this way the social potential of those communities is mobilised and channelled to achieve shared goals which enrich the society as a whole.

Pour permettre la transition énergétique en Suisse, SCCER BIOSWEET (i) a évalué les potentiels actuels et futurs de l’énergie primaire provenant des différents types de biomasse ligneuse en Suisse ; (ii) a développé et mis en oeuvre des technologies innovantes pour l’utilisation de la biomasse dans les domaines de la chaleur, de l’électricité et des carburants ; et (iii) a étudié le rôle futur de la biomasse ligneuse dans le système énergétique. SCCER BIOSWEET a commencé avec l’objectif de 100 pétajoules (PJ) de consommation d’énergie primaire par an provenant de la bioénergie d’ici 2050, ce qui signifie un doublement de la consommation d’énergie actuelle provenant de la biomasse. Selon les résultats des analyses réalisées par SCCER BIOSWEET, cet objectif est réalisable et la biomasse ligneuse pourrait y contribuer à hauteur de 50 %. Néanmoins, en ce qui concerne l’efficacité des ressources et la décarbonisation de l’industrie et de la société, la priorité doit être accordée à l’utilisation matérielle du bois (utilisation en cascade), par exemple comme produits chimiques dans les bioraffineries. En Suisse, l’utilisation du bois à des fins énergétiques devrait idéalement inclure la production de chaleur à haute température pour le chauffage des processus industriels, ainsi que de carburants sous forme gazeuse et liquide pour les transports terrestres et aériens. Un autre point essentiel est la nécessité de compenser les fluctuations de la production d’autres sources d’énergie, notamment solaire.

Les mégatendances influant sur les familles sont étroitement liées. L’adaptation des familles à l’évolution des dynamiques sociale, économique, culturelle et environnementale entraîne des changements démographiques. Ces changements peuvent à leur tour provoquer une migration à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur des frontières nationales. La migration est liée à une urbanisation croissante, les familles cherchant à optimiser leur bien-être grâce aux ressources généralement concentrées dans les régions urbaines. Or, de nombreuses familles migrant vers ces régions ont du mal à se nourrir de façon adéquate et peinent à y trouver un logement approprié et abordable, un emploi convenable, des soins pour les enfants et les adultes à charge, ainsi que les soins de santé dont elles ont besoin. Ces défis nous incitent à réfléchir aux moyens déployés par les gouvernements et les organisations de la société civile pour favoriser le bien-être des familles dans un tel contexte de transition et d’incertitude. Le présent article s’intéresse aux liens entre trois mégatendances mises en relief par les Nations Unies1qui ont une incidence sur le bien-être des familles – les changements démographiques, la migration et l’urbanisation –, en tenant compte des répercussions que peuvent avoir les politiques sur les familles au Canada. Il met l’accent sur deux grandes tendances démographiques que l’on observe également dans d’autres pays à revenu élevé : la baisse du taux de fécondité et le vieillissement de la population. L’augmentation de la proportion d’immigrants au pays, une autre tendance démographique, est également examinée et une attention particulière est accordée aux conséquences pour le bien-être des familles.

The findings reported in this paper provide insights into the power dynamics and distributional politics that shape resistance to phasing out coal and to opportunities for change, as part of a broader project comparing these lessons and experiences in Colombia, South Africa and Indonesia, aiming to understand challenges to a just energy transition in coal-producing countries in the Global South. The current Colombian government has helped centre the concept of a just energy transition in public debate, encompassing a broad range of questions and concerns. National, regional and local discussions have different frameworks and visions for a future beyond fossil fuels, particularly regarding coal, which is a major export commodity but not a major fuel for domestic use in Colombia. For thermal coal–producing regions in Colombia, this debate touches on the challenges of both the legacy of extractive activities and the repercussions of losing a significant industrial sector, affecting local and regional economies and communities. Drawing on a series of workshops, a literature review, and interviews around transitions from coal in the Colombian departments of Cesar and La Guajira, researchers identified different visions of a just energy transition put forward at the national and regional levels, as well as some of the interests and strategies leveraged by different actors and groups in pushing certain visions of such a transition. In addition to presenting these results, the authors of this report provide insights into the power dynamics that shape resistance to phasing out coal and opportunities for transitions to more sustainable futures, with a strong emphasis on the efforts of civil society to create and achieve their visions of transition.

n line with Scottish Net Zero targets and the national strategy for a Just Transition, the Northeast of Scotland is transforming towards a low carbon future with a number of high-profile industry and policy initiatives. With the region home to global energy companies and historical high levels of energy sector employment, the narrative on transition is predominantly framed within an industrial and technological context, including narratives on new opportunities in green jobs, green industrial development, technical innovation and new infrastructure to support energy transition. As the energy landscape shifts in the North-East of Scotland, the impacts will be felt most keenly in communities from shifts in employment to changes to local supply chains. It is important to note that Net Zero ambitions will also change the nature and structure of communities in the region, for those within a shifting oil and gas industry and those without. A just transition ensures that all voices are heard, engaged and included in the process of change, and that communities, including those who have benefited and those who have not, have a stake in determining the direction of travel of a changing society and economy of the North-east. As a result, there is a need for a community-oriented perspective to transition which discusses a range of values and perspectives, the opportunities and resources available for transition and how communities of place can support the process of change toward Net Zero. Social transformation is a key element of a just transition and community engagement, inclusion and participation is embedded in the principles laid down by the Just Transition Commission. Despite this high-level recognition of social justice and inclusion at the heart of transition, there has been little move to understand what a just transition means in the context of local communities in the NorthEast. This project aims to address this imbalance and promote the ability of communities to not only engage but to help steer net zero transitions. It seeks to uncover and build a stronger local consensus about the vision and pathways for civil society to progress a just transition in the Northeast of Scotland. The project aims to do this through bringing together civil society, academic, policy and business stakeholders across three interactive workshops to: 1. Empower NE communities to engage with the Just Transition agenda 2. Identify what are the key issues within a Just Transition and how they can be applied in the Northeast. 3. Directly support communities by providing training and resources to facilitate change by working in partnership. The project funding supported the delivery of three professionally facilitated online workshops that were held over 2021/22 (Figure 1). Workshop 1 explored the global principles within a just transition and how these could apply to the Scottish context. Workshop 2 examined different pathways and options for transition in the context of Northeast Scotland. Workshop 3, in partnership with NESCAN explored operational challenges and best practices with community participants. The outcomes from the three workshops are explored in detail.

Throughout history, technology and its evolution have significantly impacted the societal modes of production and organisation. The highest rise in technological evolution has been observed under the capitalist system. Technology has not, as of yet, proved to be capitalism’s demise. However, some believe that advances in Artificial Intelligence and automation render them radically different technologies to those of the past and will mean capitalism’s demise and the dawn of a new, postcapitalist era. This paper will assess this claim by looking at historical evidence and contemporary theoretical and empirical work to argue that, while it is possible that such technologies are radically different to those of the past and might bring about the fall of the capitalist system, such claims cannot yet be substantiated due to the early stage of the aforementioned technologies’ development.

The government of Rafael Correa (2007-2017) embarked on an ambitious project of diversifying the national economy to transition from a primary resource exporting economy to a competitive Knowledge Society and a Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy as biodiversity was conceptualized as the country’s most significant comparative advantage. This paper traces how peoples’ and nationalities’ knowledges, so-called ancestral knowledges, were elicited in unprecedented ways in this context of bringing about a change of the productive matrix. While knowledge in general was reframed as an infinite resource, ancestral knowledges were made productive for a state-led project of capitalist modernization.

This paper explores post-Nazarbayev state-building in Kazakhstan, focusing on domestic and foreign policy implications of the power transition. After thirty years of incumbency, President Nursultan Nazarbayev stepped down in 2019, smoothly transferring the power to his nominee, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and thus plunged the country into a sensitive phase of power transition. This study suggests that the power transition in Kazakhstan has not led to significant improvements in terms of human rights and political freedoms protection, leaving the state of the weak opposition and constrained civil society intact. Kazakhstan keeps maintaining the core features of oil-rich countries, with hydrocarbon-based economy and regime stability stemming from an “authoritarian bargain” between the state and society. Besides, there has been continuity in foreign policy, with Kazakhstan further pursuing a multi-vectoral foreign policy agenda.
