Streszczenie:
The purpose of the article is to explore the evolution of French literature between the late 19th century and early 21st century. Although French literature has long been dominated by rationalistic ways of thinking, based on the thoughts of René Descartes and John Locke, authors have used different means to express their perceptions of society. The novel Madame Bovary (1856), including its depiction of conjugal relationships, can be considered to have pioneered realism in French literature. During the Second World War, existentialism and absurdism appeared as new ways of examining not only the relationship among humans, but also between humans and God. In the late 20th century, magical realism emerged as a new literary stream that explicitly recognized the irrationality of human thinking. This article finds that the rationality of realism was necessary for magical realism to be accepted; in this rationality, although works of magical realism were irrational, they had to be recognized as fine examples of French literature that embodied such revolutionary ideas as liberté (liberty), égalité (equality), and fraternité (fraternity). To study this phenomenon, we examine the history of french literature by applying archeological method in order to understand the world views of the authors and how they change over time.

Streszczenie:
Magic realism or magical realism is a genre where magical or unreal elements play a natural part in an otherwise realistic environment. Although it is most commonly used as a literary genre, magic realism also applies to film and the visual arts. An example of magic realism occurs when a character in the story continuous to be alive beyond the normal length of life and this is subtly depicted by the character being present throughout many generations. On the surface the story has no clear magical attributes and everything is conveyed in a real setting and breaks the rules of our real world. Magic realism is term used to describe the everyday reality with supernatural events. The two terms ‘magic’ and ‘realism’ have become to intertwined that strange, unearthly happenings become almost an accepted, even normal part of daily life. Magic realism considers being a postcolonial phenomenon. Magic realism is to be found only in the post colonial texts. The writers of colonized countries incorporate magic realism in their writings as a mode of resistance to western rationalism. There is no place for logic in magic realism. In countries like India, People believe in myths and ghosts as they believe in history. Magical things do not constitute the Indian culture. There is realism also. Diaspora writers’ characters make use of magic realism to escape to a world of fantasy for it provides them pleasure, relief, and an escape from the excruciating pain they experience in an alien land. The term magical realism was introduced by Franz Roh, a German art critic in 1952. When Roh coined the term the mean it to create an art category the strayed from the strict guidelines of realism, but the term did not name an artistic movement until the 1940s in Latin America and the Caribbean. Magic realism or Magical realism is a genre of 20th century English literature. This paper deals Magical Realism in Indian literature and its authors.

Streszczenie:
Entire layers of fiction in retrospective light might escape the attention of modern literary criticism. Russian speaking writers and poets living in Kazakhstan introduce elements of Kazakh culture into their work: these are details of Kazakh life, song culture, and the bright imagery inherent in Kazakh literature and its unique artistic flavor. Regional Russian literature, connected by roots with Slavic literature, contributed to the development and mutual enrichment of literary ties between Kazakhstan and Russia. Already by the beginning of the 1920s, two directions in the approach to the Kazakh theme emerged: a contemplative attitude towards the historical past of the Kazakh people, the desire to idealize antiquity in a traditionally romantic sense, and a progressive perception and coverage of everything connected with the life of the Kazakhs. Russian-language literature in Kazakhstan has gone from socialist realism to magical realism. It is closely connected with the reality, history and traditions of the ethnic groups of Kazakhstan. Historical and revolutionary themes were developed in the spirit of the dominant ideology. The range of material covered included the period of collectivization before the development of virgin lands and the problems of the scientific and technological revolution. Magical realism gives literary texts a unique originality.

Streszczenie:
Sensation fiction, which flourished in England from the 1850s to the 1880s, was viewed by Victorian establishment figures as a threat to prevailing social values. This dissertation focuses on the work of Charles Reade, who along with Wilkie Collins and Mary Elizabeth Braddon, was among the most well-known sensation novelists. While several novels by Collins and Braddon have been rediscovered by scholars since the 1980s, Reade's fiction remains neglected. With its explicit critique of the emerging regimes of power/knowledge in the fields of medicine, criminal justice, and sexual mores, Reade's work anticipates Michel Foucault's theories elaborated a century later. Although previous readings of Victorian fiction have drawn on the ideas of Foucault in an attempt to identify sensation novels as cultural productions complicit with a developing bourgeois hegemony, I argue that these novels represent a narrative genre that challenges and resists these disciplinary constraints. In addition, Reade's work provides a rare glimpse of alternative sexualities and gender identities in nineteenth-century fiction that can be read in light of feminist and gender theory. This dissertation recovers the fiction of Charles Reade as a body of work that anticipates recent trends in literary and cultural theory and that speaks to us today with an uncanny familiarity.

Streszczenie:
Realism and Naturalism are two of the main literary movements in the XIX-th century European Literature. In fact, Naturalism is a form of radical Realism, which appears towards the end of Realism. The most important realis is Honore de Balzac, as Realism appeared in France at the end of the XVIII-teen century due to many political and social events, such as:The French Revolution from 1789, The Revolution between 1830-1831, the impact of Restauration, The Revolution from 1848 and the Industrial Revolution in England. The main goal of realism is to reflect reality as in a mirror. On the other hand, Naturalism is a literary movement developped from Realism as a more brutal reflection of reality, the impact of society and genetic pathologies upon human being.

Streszczenie:
Joseph Stalin, as the ruler of the USSR, invited Maxim Gorky (who was living in Europe at that time) to return home to preach and consolidate socialist realism, and so socialist realism was established in Russia in the 1930s. Gorky played an important role in Russian literature during this time, while in China, different writers also introduced socialist realism through various literary translations of Russian writers, among which Gorky’s works were the most translated. Gorky advocated for the combination of realism and romanticism. He described positive heroes in his works and valued humanity. These thoughts, however, were interpreted in diverse ways by various Chinese writers, which were split into two teams. One team was represented by Zhou Yang (周 扬) and Xiao San (萧三), who underlined the political function of literature; the other team was represented by Hu Feng (胡风) and Mao Dun (茅盾), who were instead in favor of the fusion of the idea of humanism with socialist realism. This article begins with an introduction of Gorky’s thought through various literary works translated in the 1930s, representing the spread of Gorky’s ideas throughout China. The author then focuses on the different interpretations of his thoughts presented by Zhou Yang, Xiao San together with Hu Feng, and Mao Dun. The purpose of this article is first to elaborate on the significance of Gorky’s thoughts for Chinese literature in the 1930s, then to analyze the different interpretations of his thoughts, which serves to explain the reasoning for different interpretations and the objectives of these Chinese writers who put forward different perceptions of Gorky’s word. Finally, this article will conclude by analyzing whose interpretation is closer to Gorky’s original thoughts.

Streszczenie:
Virtual environments (VEs) are developed to invoke feelings of presence in the digitally created representations, which leads to people perceiving and enacting actions as they would in corresponding real world environments. Even though significant strides have been made in enhancing the level of realism of virtual systems, there is still a long way to go toward a system that could provide full immersive experiences. Furthermore, the development cycle of a high realism system can be time consuming and costly. On the theoretical side, this desire of achieving the feeling of presence is not always consistent with the body of literature on grounded cognition, where the environment is known to significantly impact the user’s perception and action. Nevertheless, many studies have shown that people reported the feeling of presence even though the VEs they interacted with were far from realistic representations of the actual environments. This raised a question as to what dimensions of the environments are essential in triggering the feelings of presence. Instead of taking the approach where a fairly immersive system is used and a particular variable is investigated to ascertain its effects on the feelings of presence, the approach used in the current work investigated whether people reduce the potential injury to an avatar by starting out with a low to medium visual realism environment and scaling up to a higher visual realism. The results in the current study suggest that compared to enacting actions in the real world with one’s own body, people are more likely to bring injury to an avatar. This indicates that high visual realism may not be the essential ingredient in invoking the feelings of presence that regulate risk taking behaviors. The limitation and the next step of this research are discussed.

The background color of Russian literature and Russian painting art in the 19th century is gloomy and heavy, and there exists text intertextuality between them, which is different from single text and single painting. Literary words and painting invisible words quote, permeate, insinuate and rewrite each other. Literature is the writing of painting, and painting is the color of literature. The main line of literature development and the main line of painting development seem to be twisted together like a rope, presenting spiral development, closely linked, complementary and inseparable. The same value orientation and aesthetic purpose have intertextuality, mutual influence, mutual interaction and mutual transformation, no matter in creation method, theme, artistic style or creation background. Direct description or sharp pen, or by the protagonist of indirect irony, using realistic and critical realism creation method, revealing the tsarist autocracy savage, dissatisfaction with the reality in protest of rebellion, as well as being bullied and oppressed pain and struggle, at the same time reflects the immortality of the Russian national literature and art achievement.

Streszczenie:
Wang Meng is one of the Chinese writers whose works have been most translated in Russia, and even the sales of translations of the same work in Russia have greatly exceeded the sales in China. It can be said that Wang Meng’s influence on Russia is the same as that of Russian literature on Wang Meng’s life, and the latter is an indispensable cause of the former. This paper takes the period from the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the late period of 1980s as the timeline, the influence of Soviet literature on Wang Meng’s writing during the Sino-Soviet period, and the variation of Wang Meng’s acceptance of Russian and Soviet literature in the new period. Combined with text analysis, the author explains the literary phenomenon of writer Wang Meng. First of all, the influence of Soviet literature on Wang Meng’s writing during the Sino-Soviet period was divided into two parts: one is the “invisible” imitation of Russian and Soviet literature by contemporary Chinese writers; the other is Wang Meng’s inheritance and influence of Soviet literature. Among them, the Slavic spirit in Wang Meng’s works and the “revolutionary” theme in Wang Meng’s novels are the innovations of this article. In the second, the author separately analyzes three aspects: Wang Meng’s practice of Bakhtin’s carnivalized poetics, the change from idealism to realism, and the Orthodox spirit, Lao Zhuang thought and Wang Meng’s literary worldview. According to the language expression, the author’s creative style and the writers’ literary thought analysis, author explored Wang Meng’s acceptance and transformation of Soviet literary theories, literary genres, and Russian national spirit after the 1980s, and revealed Wang Meng’s reform and innovation in the literary path. Furthermore, from this perspective, examine the reasons why Wang Meng’s novel creation can stand on its own, repeatedly innovate, and the literary charm is evergreen.
