Streszczenie:
Russian Russian Language and Culture of Speech textbook consists of two books: "Russian language and culture of speech. Theory" and "Russian language and speech culture. Practicum". The study of the Russian language in professional educational organizations implementing the educational program of secondary general education has its own characteristics depending on the profile of vocational education, which is expressed through the content of training. When mastering the professions of technical, natural-scientific, socio-economic profiles of vocational education, the Russian language is studied at the basic level of secondary education. When mastering the specialties of secondary vocational education in the humanities, the Russian language is studied in depth as a specialized academic discipline that requires a higher level of language training of students. In this regard, much attention is paid to functional styles of speech, especially the official business style, and the specifics of the use of language units in accordance with the speech situation, which has practical application not only for students of secondary vocational education, but also for a wide range of business people. Russian Russian vocabulary and stylistics are outlined in the textbook, which instills the skills of using the norms of Russian speech. In addition, attention is drawn to the norms of Russian literary pronunciation, the rules of text construction are given. The main part is devoted to the culture of Russian speech in the study of grammar and syntax. A separate chapter is devoted to punctuation of the Russian language. Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of secondary vocational education of the latest generation. For students of secondary vocational education, applicants and high school students.

Streszczenie:
This is an advance summary of a forthcoming article in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Politics. Please check back later for the full article.Narrowly understood, social choice theory is a specialized branch of applied logic and mathematics that analyzes abstract objects called preference aggregation functions, social welfare functions, and social choice functions. But more broadly, social choice theory identifies, analyzes, and evaluates rules that may be used to make collective decisions. So understood, social choice is a subfield of the social sciences that examines what may be called “voting rules” of various sorts. While social choice theory typically assumes a finite set of alternatives over which voter preferences are unrestricted, the spatial model of social choice assumes that policy alternatives can be represented by points in a space of one or more dimensions, and that voters have preferences that are plausibly shaped by this spatial structure.Social choice theory has considerable relevance for the study of legislative (as well as electoral) institutions. The concepts and tools of social choice theory make possible formal descriptions of legislative institutions such as bicameralism, parliamentary voting procedures, effects of decision rules (e.g., supramajority vs. simple majority rule and executive veto rules), sincere vs. strategic voting by legislators, agenda control, and other parliamentary maneuvers. Spatial models of social choice further enrich this analysis and raise additional questions regarding policy stability and change. Spatial models are used increasingly to guide empirical research on legislative institutions and processes.

The manual is designed primarily for motivated readers. This is what defines its unique style of presentation. It is not a «classic» textbook strictly adhering to the curriculum and work programs. The author's task was primarily to stimulate thought and intellectual reflection. The main provisions are of an author's nature, in fact, the result of many years of research. The work updates personal position on all the issues discussed. At the same time, the peculiarities of the genre (manual) dictate their limitations and rules. Therefore, all parts of the book are framed with a framework of questions and topics for discussion. At the same time, the book is considered as some field of reasoning within the subject of undergraduates on the Methodology and methodology of scientific research. Included are those sections that cause ambiguous interpretation in the literature. Relevant didactic materials are prescribed. The literature generally meets the requirements of the training course.

Streszczenie:
Social scientists have theorized the rise of transnational private authority, but knowledge about its consequences remains sparse and fragmented. This chapter builds from a critique of “empty spaces” imagery in several leading paradigms to a new theory of transnational governance. Rules and assurances are increasingly flowing through global production networks, but these flows are channeled and reconfigured by domestic governance in a variety of ways. Abstracting from the case studies in this book, a series of theoretical propositions specify the likely outcomes of private regulation, the influence of domestic governance, the special significance of territory and rights, and several ways in which the content of rules shapes their implementation. As such, this theory proposes an explanation for differences across places, fields, and issues, including the differential performance of labor and environmental standards.

Streszczenie:
Social Practices of Rule-Making in World Politics identifies a class of social practices of rule-making, interpretation, and application, demonstrating the causal importance of these practices (and the procedural rules that constitute and govern them) in explaining outcomes in world politics. The book utilizes rule-oriented and practice-turn constructivist approaches to argue that procedural rules about rule-making, or secondary rules, shape the way that actors present and evaluate proposals for change in the rules and institutions that structure international systems. The book examines four important international security cases: the social construction of great power management after the Napoleonic Wars; the creation of a rule against the use of force, except in cases of self-defense and collective security, enshrined in the Kellogg-Briand Pact; contestation of the international system by al-Qaeda in the period immediately following the 9/11 attacks; and United Nations efforts to establish norms for state conduct in the cyber domain. The book makes several contributions to International Relations theory. It provides insight into how actors know how and when to engage in specific forms of social construction. It extends the application of practice-turn constructivism to processes of making and interpreting rules. It improves upon existing tools to explain change in the rules and institutions of the international system. Finally, it demonstrates the utility of the book’s approach for the study of global governance, the international system, and for emerging efforts to identify forms and sites of authority and hierarchy in world politics.

Pearce, Kenneth L. Berkeley’s Theory of Language in Alciphron 7. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/acprof:oso/9780198790334.003.0004.

Streszczenie:
Berkeley’s most detailed discussion of the philosophy of language appears in Alciphron. Although Berkeley’s discussion is motivated by problems about religious language raised by John Toland, his response is not to develop a theory of religious language as a special case but rather to defend a general theory of language and show that the meaningfulness of these religious utterances is a consequence of that theory. The theory Berkeley adopts holds that words get to be meaningful when they are used according to conventional rules as part of a public social practice aiming at practical ends. Berkeley does not endorse a sharp distinction between emotive and cognitive language, but rather holds that one and the same word is typically associated with a wide variety of rules, which may instruct users not only to have ideas but also to feel emotions or perform a variety of linguistic or non-linguistic actions.

Streszczenie:
Our human lives involve remarkable forms of practical organization: diachronic organization of individual activity, small-scale organization of shared action, and the organization of institutions. A theory of human action should help us understand these multiple forms of human practical organization and their interrelations. This book argues that a key is our capacity for planning agency. Drawing on earlier work on the roles of planning agency in the cross-temporal and small-scale social organization of our agency, this book focuses on the role of our planning agency within our organized institutions. It draws on ideas, inspired by H. L. A. Hart, that our organized institutions are rule-guided, and that to understand this we need a theory of social rules. This book draws on the planning theory of shared intention and the underlying theory of plan rationality to understand social rules. It understands an organized institution as involving authority-according social rules of procedure. It provides a model of organized institutions that makes room for pluralistic divergence. This leads to a model of institutional intention and—drawing on ideas from Harry Frankfurt—institutional intentional agency. The account charts a path between views of, among others, Kirk Ludwig, Philip Pettit, and Scott Shapiro. It sees our capacity for planning agency as a core capacity that underlies not only string quartets and informal social rules but also, thereby, the rule-guided structure of organized institutions and institutional agency. And it supports adjustments in views of mind, intention, and agency that are built into Donald Davidson’s field-shaping work.

Streszczenie:
This chapter seeks to advocate a specific avenue for reconstructing the theory of sources beyond naïve objectivism. It looks at how the theory of sources came to be crafted as a platform for the objectivizing of meaning and a bridle to crude politics, and how it failed in that liberal project. Yet, it argues thereafter that this possible failure of the classical theory of sources should not be construed as a failure of the principle of such a theory, but rather the failure of the specific (representation of the) theory of sources as it was inherited from the twentieth century and depicted by its critiques. More specifically, this chapter puts forward a social theory of sources that makes it possible to construe the theory of sources as a tradition and a practice rather than as a set of rules that operates mechanically.

Streszczenie:
This chapter demystifies Carl Schmitt by interpreting his main insights through the lens of modern social sciences,. There is a large literature in political science on the political foundations of democracy, constitutionalism, and the rule of law. This literature emphasizes that legal rules, by themselves, cannot create a political equilibrium, which always depends on the expectation of political actors that other actors will contribute to preserving the constitutional regime rather than subverting it. This insight allows us to interpret Schmitt’s distinction between legality and legitimacy more concretely than in extant work. There is also a large literature in law and economics on ex ante rules versus ex post standards. Schmitt’s theory of the exception can be understood as an argument that governance through ex post standards, rather than ex ante rules, is inevitable and even desirable where political, economic, or military conditions change rapidly.

Streszczenie:
Inclusive fitness theory, originally due to W. D. Hamilton, is a popular approach to the study of social evolution, but shrouded in controversy. The theory contains two distinct aspects: Hamilton’s rule (rB > C); and the idea that individuals will behave as if trying to maximize their inclusive fitness in social encounters. These two aspects of the theory are logically separable but often run together. A generalized version of Hamilton’s rule can be formulated that is always true, though whether it is causally meaningful is debatable. However, the individual maximization claim only holds true if the payoffs from the social encounter are additive. The notion that inclusive fitness is the ‘goal’ of individuals’ social behaviour is less robust than some of its advocates acknowledge.

Power is a complex topic that is viewed in entirely different ways by different writers. Power can be seen as a property of agents, with some agents having more power than others. It can be seen as a property of social systems, where structures hold power. It can also be seen in terms of specific actions by people to coerce or dominate, or it can be regarded as a subliminal force that leads people to think and behave in one way rather than another. It can be analyzed descriptively to try to explain how it is distributed, and critically to argue for changing structures to provide a more egalitarian and fairer distribution.Power studies flourished in the great community power studies of the 1950s and 1960s. Some of these works suggested that democratic nations were controlled by powerful elites who ruled in their own interests; some that power was more widely distributed and elites could not simply rule for themselves; others that in capitalist societies, despite some counterexamples, elites generally ruled in favor of developers and capitalists. Later studies examined how people’s interests are defined in terms of the structural positions in which they find themselves, and how the very ways in which we think and express ourselves affect our individual powers.

This article examines methodological debates in legal philosophy by focusing on two (related) methodological claims in H. L. A. Hart’s 1961 book, The Concept of Law: that Hart’s theory is both general and descriptive, and an exercise in both linguistic analysis and descriptive sociology. It considers what these claims reveal about Hart’s theoretical ambitions and methodological commitments, and what light they shed on debates in legal philosophy since then. In particular, it discusses the most important elements of Hart’s theory, such as the union of primary and secondary rules in law, the “rule of recognition” as a social rule, and the relationship between legal and moral norms. It also explores several objections to Hart’s approach to the problems of legal philosophy, including one that questions the fruitfulness of the methodology of conceptual analysis. Finally, it analyzes the argument of Hart and all legal positivists that legal systems are social constructs.

Drawing on real-life examples and the philosophical literature on moral rules, this chapter discusses the problems that can arise because organizations are rule-based structures. From a moral perspective, rules are double-edged: there are good moral reasons to obey them, especially in organizational contexts, but they are blunt tools that can do injustice to the underlying social reality, which is far more fine-grained and complex than rules could ever grasp. In addition, rules have a psychological dimension, especially when they are tied to incentives: they can refocus our attention, and crowd out the intrinsic motivation to do the right thing. To live with the ‘iron cage’ of organizational rules, individuals and organizations need to remain attentive to their double-edged character, and install mechanisms for preventing injustice to atypical cases. This analysis also throws light on the use of ‘codes of ethics’ in organizations.

The parents in the Social Capitalist network introduce a set of new ideas about the meaning of relationships with donor siblings. Rather than trying to squeeze themselves into any preexisting model of family, they actively negotiate their own rules for interaction and for language (including use of the word “dibling”). They also introduce a set of new ideas about the benefits the group can provide. They state quite clearly that they value the social and cultural capital available through group membership. The parents scurry to become members early (while their children are under the age of five) because they want both to influence the group’s formation and to secure the benefits they hope their children will receive in years to come. Because the children are so young, we hear only from the parents.
