Living in a technological world that is upgrading day by day, there is one major problem that should be dealt with. Garbage, which is the issue preventing us from developing into a sanitary, clean, and healthy society. In our daily lives, we frequently encounter trash cans that are overflowing with junk. Neither our environment nor our growth benefit from situations like this. Due to the abundance of flies and mosquitoes that breed on the garbage, this issue has a significant negative impact on health. As a result, this project is designed to prevent the trashcan from becoming overfilled by giving it the ability to alert itself when it needs to be cleaned. The smart trash bin system in this project is built on a microcontroller and has ultrasonic sensors on each of the two trash cans to display the garbage's current status on an LCD screen and a smartphone.

Abstract: In Sri Lanka, garbage dumping has long been a problem. The regional organizations have made various attempts to address this issue. But unfortunately, no appropriate action has been taken thus far. As a consequence, there are several environmental issues as well as human health issues, particularly among children. As a result, we have suggested some approaches to resolving these issues so that we can advance the nation. The prime objective of the suggested system is to provide a nation free from waste, and the suggested solutions support this objective as well. The suggested approach will benefit the municipality council in a variety of ways, reducing both labour and capital costs. The proposed system will calculate the amount of garbage that has been piled up effectively, giving truck drivers information that can be tracked via a mobile application. The system will warn pedestrians if they attempt to dump garbage out of the bin and also if they pile particular garbage in a different type of a bin other than designated bin. This will aid road cleaners in efficiently collecting garbage other than focusing more collecting trash from the roads. It will improve the garbage segregation process because the designated types of bins are also kept separately and can be utilized by the local bodies as they require, which helps to achieve our objective of this system

Waste management is necessary in today's world because, with the growing population, waste generated by the human is also increasing. Million Tons of waste is being produced by the people all over the world every day. If waste is not properly disposed off, it may lead to huge health issues and it may have adverse effects on our environment also. Among all, waste collection and transportation are one of the costliest stages in solid waste management. As the truck driver must go to each bin every single day and check whether the bin is full or not. If the bin is not full, it is not only waste of time but also wastes of fuel for truck and it also increases pollution due to smoke released from trucks, needs more men for checking all the bins in different routes. In this paper, we are going to propose a smart solution for this problem using the Internet of Things. We use an ultrasonic sensor to measure the size of the bin, and raspberry pi to process the information further. This sensor data will be sent to the cloud using Wi-Fi module of raspberry pi, from the cloud the data is sent to android app. When the trash inside the bin crosses the certain threshold level, that bin and its location are shown in the App using google maps, and the current location of the truck driver is detected, and shortest path is shown. By this the garbage bins can be emptied before the dustbin overflow.

IoT –internet of things has become a buzzword nowadays. There are many IoT based researches but researches on garbage management system based on IoT are not sufficient. Insufficient and inefficient garbage management system causes severe environmental problem. It also makes the air toxic. This problem has become a common problem in the world especially in Bangladesh. Dhaka city, the capital of Bangladesh lacks well organized and efficient garbage management system. Maximum roads of Dhaka city are surrounded by garbage. The bad smell of garbage affects people’s mental health, inhaling toxic causes many diseases. Lack of dustbins, throwing of garbage here and there, misuse of dustbins are making city life very unhealthy and also causes a threat to environment. The dustbins are being stolen or damaged which is also a great problem. In this paper, we proposed about an efficient garbage management system based on IoT. This research works aims to provide a minimal solution to this problem using the IoT technology. We propose for a smart garbage system, which consists of sensors, RFID, IR sensors, admin and user website, Wi-Fi module etc. These smart bins will monitor the level of garbage when it will reach 75% of its capacity, it will give notification to the admin website, so the authority concerned can collect the garbage from the bins timely and there will be no overflow of garbage as the authority will get notified earlier. There will be a feature in user website that will let the user know about the nearest smart garbage bins current condition, so if there is any condition that the garbage bin of their place is full they can use the nearest bin. This research work also aims to have secured smart garbage bins, as there is chance the bins to be stolen and damaged so in this research we talk about security of the sensors and the bins will have cement body. So this research is for implementing an efficient garbage management system which will reduce expense on this sector, misuse of bins. Making a clean country, pollution free environment with an efficient and well organized garbage management system can bring a new era. It is expected that the proposed garbage management system will reduce financial cost in this sector as well as reduce problems related to waste management.

Environmental sanitation is very essential for healthy living. In our daily livelihood, garbage bins are usually kept without proper monitoring until they are filled to the point of overflowing onto the surroundings and spilling out, resulting in environmental pollution, which has serious health-related issues to human beings and the environment. For smart cities, garbage bins need to be monitored and controlled to ensure a healthy and clean environment. In the present technological advancement, real-time monitoring and control of waste disposal is a challenging area that needs urgent attention by the research community. The traditional approach of monitoring waste in garbage bins placed in strategic locations is a very tedious and inefficient way that consumes time, human effort, and cost, and this is also not in agreement with smart city requirements. This research paper presents the design and implementation of an internet of things (IoT) based Arduino microcontroller working with the ultrasonic sensors that detects the level of waste in the garbage bin placed in garbage locations and constantly at regular intervals display the status information as “filled”, “half-filled”, or “empty” on an LCD screen, as well as send the content level information at those intervals to a central web-server system that displays the garbage bin levels graphically. This is achieved using a microcontroller, a Wi-Fi module, and ultrasonic sensors. The programming of the Arduino Uno microcontroller was done with an Arduino IDE and embedded C programming language. The communication with the web server was done using the hypertext preprocessor PHP scripting programming language. The prototype was designed and simulated using Proteus 8.0 professional simulation software. This process helps to automate garbage bin monitoring and control. Experimental results demonstrate a promising solution to waste management and control. A number of testing runs were performed to evaluate the device workability in real situations. The measured distances from the garbage bins were transmitted to a website; this web page performs analytic and visualization and displays a bar chart showing the levels of the garbage waste, time, and location in real time for viewing. The proposed prototype is an innovative system that will help to keep the smart cities clean and tidy using ultrasonic sensors.

Abstract: Indian Municipal waste management remains a main problem in urban areas, leading to consequential health and environmental issues. Therefore, trash bins are placed in many places to handle municipal solid waste, but dustbins can overfill and spread around the area, spoiling the environment, and creating disturbance to the public. Therefore, a real-time remote monitoring system is required that warns the level of garbage to the firm of waste management or municipality. The proposed structure consists of an ultrasonic sensor to measure the garbage level in the dustbin. ESP32 is a microcontroller board with integrated Wi-fi and Bluetooth that controls the system operation. It is supposed to display messages on the IOT Cloud server regarding the garbage level of the dustbin, whether it is full or empty, so the municipality or respective garbage monitoring company can take required actions in time. Also, there will be a Solar panel to generate the power required to run the system. Furthermore, a system is proposed to contribute to improving the efficiency of solid waste disposal management.

Streszczenie:
The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, which analyses and controls city processes in real-time, serves essential for enhancing applications relevant to smart cities. Solid waste management, which has an adverse impact on both the environment and the overall wellness of the society, is one of the most vital issues connected to smart city applications. Waste produced by city inhabitants and disposed into the garbage cans is where the traditional waste management process starts. On an assigned schedule, trucks from the municipal department collect and transport the discards to the recycling facilities. Outdoor dumpsters receive little attention by municipalities and garbage management firms, making it difficult to know when to clean them or when they are filled. In order to get beyond the drawbacks of conventional waste management systems, this work proposes an IoT-enabled solid waste management approach for smart cities. The proposed layout includes a LoRaWAN gateway, a sensor-enabled anti-littering system, and a bin monitoring system with a GPS module, which are used to track bins in public and residential regions. This approach infers the location and the level of the garbage can, processes the information, and sends it to a central monitoring station for storage and analysis. The garbage collection authority may observe and assess the unfilled status of each trash can, due to an evident Graphical User Interface. Numerous data have been gathered to validate the suggested system architecture, and direct visits to the dump yards have been made in order to analyse the current scenario. As a result of the proposed smart waste management solution using IoT, the life expectancy of living things is said to increase, and this will be clearly visible.

In Malaysia, approximately 38,000 metric tons of garbage are generated due to human daily activities. This is due to the growing population in the urban area, hence increasing the tendency of overflowing garbage due to the insufficient space in the garbage container. In addition, the tight schedule of the garbage collection allows the spreading of the toxic odor as the garbage start to rotten up, hence leading to air pollution. Therefore, a systematic waste management system is important to provide a healthy and clean environment to the community. In this work, a communal garbage monitoring system has been developed to notify the administrator of the status of the container. Besides monitoring the level of garbage, the system is also designed to monitor the temperature, humidity, and air quality of the garbage container. These monitored data will be uploaded at the cloud for real-time monitoring. Compared to the other work, a real test-bed implementation has been conducted considering different types of waste including food waste, paper, bottles and metal; to determine the accuracy of the developed system. The results show that the system has high reliability and high accuracy with 96% for food waste and 98% for other types of waste.

The Internet of Things (IoT) will be able to integrate a wide range of various and heterogeneous end systems transparently and smoothly, while also offering open access to chosen subsets of data for the creation of a wide range of digital services. Solid waste management, which apart upsetting the ecological balance also has negative consequences on societal health, has been one of the key environmental issues. One of the main issues in the modern era is the identification, monitoring of wastes. The conventional method of manually checking the wastes in bins requires more human labor, takes longer, and costs more money. It is in no way compatible with modern technologies. This is a cutting-edge approach to automated garbage management. This project IoT Garbage Monitoring system is a very innovative system which will help greatly in preserving the environment and also makes us benefit from garbage and sell it on form raw materials to be recycled again by recycling factories. System is linked to an android application to show us the current level of each type of garbage using Ultrasonic Sensor and give a warning when the level of any of them is filled.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a commonly used technology because of its various advantages. Building an overall architecture for the IoT is subsequently an unpredictable task, essentially due to the very large variety of gadgets and interface layer advancements. These days many steps are made to provide cleanliness in the country and to make the climate ecofriendly. One of the principle worries with our current scenario has been solid waste management which not only impacts the wellbeing as well as climate. The indication, observation and management of garbage dustbins are one of the fundamental issues of the ongoing time frame.. The traditionally used techniques of physically monitoring the garbage in bins is an awkward cycle and uses more human exertion, time and cost which can undoubtedly be stayed away from with our current innovations. Therefore objective of this paper is to design automated garbage Monitoring System. By using this proposed model people don’t have to screen all of the systems actually and warning will be issued if the container will get filled.

Abstract: Garbage bins or dust bins are those that are put in public places in cities and are currently overflowing due to an increase in waste every day. It harms people's health by spreading deadly infections. To avoid this, smart bins will be designed with sensors such as an infrared sensor, a weight sensor, a photoelectric sensor, and radio frequency identification (RFID) card reader. If someone throws trash into the smart bins, a photoelectric sensor will identify the clear representation objects, and a weight sensor will be positioned beneath the smart bin to calculate the percentage of garbage present it will forward the information to the authorities in charge of that specific location. As a result, the relevant authorities can get messages until the bin is squished, and each bin is assigned a unique ID, which will appear on the screen of the respected officer, allowing them to take fast action. If a person is within two meters radius of the bin that contains an RFID CARD READER, the RFID reader will read all of that person's information and send a message to him about what they placed into the bin, as well as an appreciation message for using the bin. Today, detecting waste, collecting it, processing it, and getting rid of it are among the most significant environmental issues in developing and undeveloped counties. It has been observed that a large amount of garbage remains strewn on the roadside. This study presented a garbage detection technology such as machine learning and gadgets connected to the Internet of Things (IoT), such as an IP-enabled CCTV camera, to take pictures and send them to the city’s main server. The input images are transformed into a two-dimension array of integers using Python modules and divided into the garbage and no garbage classes. There is an 80:20 split between the training and testing datasets from the input dataset. Preprocessed images are then utilised as inputs for a wide range of machine learning and neural network models for classification; these include K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), Logistic Regression (LR), Naive Bayes (NB), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The test data sets are applied, and a confusion matrix is formed for all models to analyse the efficiency and performance of the trained models. Results from the confusion matrix are contrasted with those from the area under the Receiver characteristics operating curve (AUC). As a result, the ConvNet model is best suited for classifying garbage or no garbage present in open space, and the LR model proposed best suits the garbage detection problem. The proposed models are best suitable for improving the efficiency of existing garbage identification systems and developing a new system for smart cities.

Municipal Solid Waste generated by India in urban areas is 62 million tonnes. Only 70% of the total waste is collected and 20% is treated. Most of the solid waste is dumped in landfill sites. This paper targets the reduction in the size of the solid, particularly wet waste. Similar problems have been tackled in other parts of the world. We propose a solution that fits the Indian context. The key idea of Smart Municipal Solid Waste Management system (SMSWM) is to allocate a weekly garbage limit per household in a residential society. The DSS (Decision Support System) designed for this purpose allows the authenticated user to access the smart dustbin. The smart dustbin is equipped with the electronic circuitry where the weight of the garbage in the bin is measured and the value is updated in the database. The database of the families will be created and maintained by the municipality. A web portal gives the involved people and authorities access to the related information. A house is penalized for every kilogram more than the allotted garbage weight limit. Further enhancements are explored. Thus, the residents are incentivized to produce lesser waste.

<span>Smart trash cans use a proximity sensor (ultrasonic) to detect the height of the trash, the PIR (Passive Infra Red) sensor to detect human presence and Arduino as the data processing center. This trash can also has an LED that functions as an indicator and the buzzer functions as an alarm when the trash can is full. If the garbage reaches half of the trash, the LED will turn yellow, if the garbage reaches a height of 4cm from the trash lid, then the LED will turn red and so the trash can will be locked even though the PIR sensor detects humans. Buzzer will live to attract the attention of cleaning officers to dispose of trash. To dispose of garbage, the clerk needs to shift the open and close trash button so that the lid will open. The author hopes that this smart trash can can increase public awareness to dispose of garbage in its place. The results of study show that PIR sensors work by well in detecting the presence of humans and ultrasonic sensors in detecting the height of garbage are not accurate, so that if the trash if the trash can is empty, sometimes the garbage is minus, whereasif the garbage is &lt; 3.5 cm, the sensor fails detect it.</span>

Abstract: During the process of smart city construction, city managers always spend a lot of energy and money for cleaning street garbage due to the random appearances of street garbage. Consequently, visual street cleanliness assessmentis particularly important. However, the existing assessment approaches have some clear disadvantages, such as the collection of street garbage information is not automated and street cleanliness assessment is not real-time. To address these disadvantages, this paper proposes an urban street cleanliness assessment approach using mobileedge computing and deep leaning. First the sensor are installed inside the dustbin and obtain up to the particular threshold . then Mobile edge service is used to store and extract street image information temporarily.
