Pełny tekst źródłaThis history of the representations of ski touring offers a unique perspective on the study of the evolution of well-being, particularly through the lens of the history of outdoor sports. This research topic has led to an analysis of the evolution of various forms of ski touring practices from the early 20th century to the first part of the 21st century. The aim of this thesis is to understand whether the evolution of ski touring representations reflects changes in conceptions of well-being. Specifically, it seeks to clarify the suggestive power of these representations, which drive the momentum toward suggested forms of practice, describe the sensations brought about by the activity, and sometimes establish connections with health. Indeed, these representations have diversified in line with the social, economic, and cultural transformations of France. This mountain-based physical activity underwent major changes throughout the 20th century, initially serving utilitarian purposes before being considered a vector of well-being, a symbol of autonomy and personal adventure, and eventually being influenced by the democratization of mountain sports and leisure activities. The evolution of the broad representations of ski touring and its influence on utilitarian and collective well-being is analyzed through three distinct periods. In the first period (1900-1950), the thesis highlights the difficult recognition of ski touring in cultural representations. This practice, originally utilitarian, developed discreetly and remained on the fringes of structured winter sports. Despite the emergence and spread of technical advances in representations, the practice appeared rudimentary, and its enthusiasts were marginalized. The imagery surrounding this activity was strongly marked by risk and adventure, with a pronounced contemplative and hygienic dimension. Moreover, Scandinavian influences were decisive, offering a technical or even philosophical model that enriched French representations of ski touring. In the second period (1950-1990), characterized by the rise of a leisure society, ski touring entered a favorable context for its development in representations. During this period of increasing sportification, ski touring stood out and gained popularity due to its contemplative aspects, which placed it within a countercultural movement. In representations, ski touring became a symbol of autonomy and personal adventure, in contrast to an increasingly mechanized society. Through elements like the mountain refuge, practitioners sought well-being and quietude through this activity, which they did not find in other forms of mountain sports. The third period (1990-2022) shows a broad democratization of ski touring representations, driven by a diversification of motivations and practitioners. Today, we speak of "ski tourings," shared between the nostalgic visions of the past and modern hybrid practices. These debates, illustrated by the "collant-pipette" phenomenon, contribute to embedding ski touring within the landscape of mountain sports. Additionally, while technological advancements have made the activity more accessible and safer, the COVID-19 pandemic, marked by the closure of ski lifts, acted as a significant catalyst for the spread of ski touring in cultural representations

Pełny tekst źródłaThe birth of skiing in France leads us to focus on an animated period of French history : the hinge between the 19th and the 20th century. As a result of the empirical work, we are able to figure out two main conjuntures : the first one (1872-1900) deals with the conditions allowing the importation of skiing in France. We will point out that this importation results from the state of relationship -actual or built- between Italia and France. In this part, we will especially show to which extent the French military institutions conduct a "cultural smuggling" strategy against their transalpine neighbour. The second one (1900-1913) deals with the conditions allowing the primary diffusion of skiing in France. We will analyse the key role of the army in the legitimation phase on this practise, as well as the obvious collaboration, which occurs between the FAC and the FTC. A collaboration, whose main objective, will be to spread skiing over the highlander population
Kosch, Arlette. "« Wanderung » et « Wanderschaft » : le voyage pédestre dans la littérature non fictionnelle de langue allemande entre 1770 et 1850". Thesis, Paris 4, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PA040022.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe ultimate goal of this work is to clarify the precise definitions of Wanderschaft and Wanderung in non-fictional writing in the German language between 1770 and 1850. Those two concepts refer to any journey, mainly done on foot, undertaken for a variety of motives, but they can also take on a metaphorical sense, primarily religious. By use of both synchronic and diachronic analysis of the lexical network, as well as with the help of a multidisciplinary approach to a variety of documents, integrating literature, linguistics, theology, historical texts, visual arts, music and journalism, it has been possible to establish, not only the polysemy of the two words, but also which functions these terms cover, by putting them into their global context. Preference has been given to non-fictional writing (accounts by travellers, correspondence, educational works). The authors of accounts of travels on foot in this period come from two distinct social classes: on one hand, the cultural elite (a composite group, just coming into being and originating mainly from the affluent bourgeoisie) and on the other hand, the Companions, ranging in different cases from the middle to the working class, suddenly given social validation by the publication of their travel notes. They all come from German-speaking countries, including parts of the Kingdom of Denmark as well as of Switzerland. The evolution of the use and functions of those two words, as well as their associative fields, mirrors that of the social, economic and cultural structures between 1770 and 1850. At the same tine, the scaling down and virtualisation of the pedestrian journey, initiated in aristocratic English-style parks, continue in urban panoramas, the rooms or the garden of grand houses, as well as in society's games. Finally, the analysis is completed by examining how the two notions are dealt with in newspapers, periodicals and almanacs, as well as in didactic literature for young people, popular songs and the visual arts
