Objectives: Female family members affect both the likelihood of adolescent pregnancy and the outcome of that pregnancy. We examined the degree to which an older sister’s adolescent reproductive outcomes affect her younger sister’s reproductive behavior, and whether relationships in adolescent pregnancy among sisters born to adolescent mothers differ from those born to nonadolescent mothers. Methods: We followed a birth cohort in Manitoba, Ontario, Canada, to age 20 using linkable administrative databases housed at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. The cohort consisted of 12 391 girls born in Manitoba between April 1, 1984, and March 31, 1996, who had 1 older sister. We used logistic regression models to examine the relationships among familial adolescent pregnancy outcomes. Results: Compared with adolescent girls whose older sister did not have an adolescent pregnancy, adolescent girls whose older sister had an adolescent pregnancy were more likely to have a pregnancy (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 2.57), regardless of whether that pregnancy was completed (aOR = 2.56) or terminated (aOR = 2.59). Relationships in adolescent pregnancy among sisters were much stronger for those born to nonadolescent mothers (aOR = 3.16 [older sister completed adolescent pregnancy] and 3.18 [older sister terminated adolescent pregnancy]) than to adolescent mothers (aOR = 1.65 [older sister completed adolescent pregnancy] and 1.77 [older sister terminated adolescent pregnancy]). For younger sisters having an adolescent pregnancy, the odds of her completing the pregnancy were reduced if her older sister had terminated an adolescent pregnancy and her mother had not been an adolescent mother (aOR = 0.38). Conclusions: Younger sisters of adolescents who had a pregnancy may benefit from targeted interventions to reduce their likelihood of adolescent pregnancies.

The interactions between siblings holds potential for creating and sustaining literacy learning (Goldfarb, 2000; Gregory, 2001; Volk, 1999). In this paper, we examine three literacy events that take place between a school-aged child and her younger sibling to reveal how the sisters’ interactions and relational practices support and extend the literacy abilities of both children. The findings reveal how the older sister, through her use of questions, her modeling of literacy strategies, and her support of her sibling’s growing literacy abilities, serves as a teacher to her sibling through her implicit and explicit modeling. The younger sister, through her use of questions and her engagement in the three events serves as a trigger to further her older sister’s understanding and use of authentic and emerging literacy skills and strategies. The findings also highlight how play provides a context that is mutually beneficial to and supportive of the sisters’ literacy development.

This retrospective cohort study evaluated pregnancy outcomes and similarities between pairs of nulliparous sisters with a singleton fetus who delivered between 2013 and 2020. The “Sister-1 group” was defined as the sibling who delivered first, while the “Sister-2 group” included the siblings who gave birth after Sister-1. Obstetrical complications and delivery outcomes were compared. The relative risk for recurrence of a complication in Sister-2 was calculated. The study included 743 sister pairs. There were no between-group differences in maternal BMI, gestational age at delivery, gravidity, smoking, or epidural rates. The Sister-2 group was older than the Sister-1 group (26.4 ± 5 vs. 25.8 ± 4.7 years, respectively, p = 0.05). Higher birthweights and more large-for-gestational-age infants characterized the Sister-2 group compared with the Sister-1 group (3241 ± 485 g vs. 3148 ± 536 g, p < 0.001 and 7.7% vs. 4.8%, p = 0.025, respectively). There were no between-group differences in the rate of small-for-gestational-age, gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, pre-term births, vacuum extraction, or cesarean deliveries. Logistic regression analysis found that if Sister-1 underwent vacuum extraction, her sibling had an increased risk for vacuum delivery (adjusted RR 3.03, 95% CI 1.4–6.7; p = 0.003) compared with those whose sibling (Sister-1) did not. There was a three-fold risk of vacuum extraction delivery between sisters. This finding could be related to biological inheritance, environmental factors, and/or psychological issues that may affect similarities between siblings’ delivery outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to compare female adolescent victims of sexual abuse and their nonabused adolescent sisters with matched nonvictim control subject sister sets on measures of personality adjustment and attitudes. The study involved 60 girls between the ages of 11 and 21:15 victims of child sexual abuse, 15 nonabused adolescent sisters, and 15 nonvictim control sister sets who were matched to the victim sister sets on age, socioeconomic status, birth order of daughters, number of children in family, and race. This is the first study that has attempted to assess the adjustment of siblings in sexually abusive families. Results of a multivariate analysis of variance revealed no differences among the four groups. Results of 12 paired t-tests revealed only one significant difference between the victim sister and control sister groups. These unexpected findings are discussed, and suggestions for future studies are made.

This paper analyzes the career of two Sister-Principals who began their religious life in the same congregation: Mother Mary Edward (Catherine) McKinley and Mother Mary of Providence (Catherine) Horan. Depending on whose version of history you read, these women were rival religious or virtuous sisters in habit. Drawing on archival sources and their own writings, the paper analyzes the perceptions, in their own words, of the experiences Mother Mary Edward McKinley and Mother Mary of Providence Horan as Sister-Principals. It also provides an assessment of the historical significance of their careers as case studies of Sister-Principals. The careers of the two Sister-Principals reveal much: both members of the Sisters of Providence of Vincent de Paul (Kingston), both committed to the social welfare of the poor, both forced unwillingly to be Sister-Principals; both elected as congregational leaders; both memorialized in the public domain as powerful women leaders.

Akan tetapi, ditemukan masih ada dosen yang belum register dan mengisi data diri mereka di SISTER dengan lengkap dan benar. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan tentang pengoperasian SISTER bagi dosen dilingkungan Fakultas Ekonomi dan Ilmu Sosial UIN Suska Riau. Kegitan pengabdian ini berupa pelatihan dan pendampingan pengoperasian sister yang dilaksanakan secara virtual menggunakan perangkat Zoom Meeting. Materi yang disampaikan meliputi pengenalan SISTER, cara mendaftar, login, cara mengisi data profil, biodata, dan tridarma dosen di SISTER. Panduan langsung yang diberikan adalah berupa bimbingan dan asistensi kepada dosen dalam mengisi data diri mereka di SISTER. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini bahwa pelatihan SISTER telah membantu dosen dalam mengisi data diri mereka di SISTER dengan lengkap dan benar.

IntroductionFolie a deux is a rare psychiatric disorder where an identical or similar mental disorder affects two or more individuals usually with close emotional ties. Management of patients with folie a deux may require multiple types of treatment including separation, family therapy and antipsychotics.ObjectivesNarrative case of Folie a deux in 2 elderly sistersMethodsClinical case presentation through retrospective review of clinical notesResultsWe present a case of 2 sisters living together of 76 and 74 years of age. The elder sister, Sister A, presented to Singapore’s Institute of Mental Health on October 2021 after she was referred from court for disturbed behaviour with more than 10 years history of paranoid delusions against their neighbours, eventually extending to strangers in general. She was admitted and stayed in hospital from October 2021 to February 2022. She was referred to community psychiatric services to perform home visits due to her unwillingness to attend subsequent follow ups after discharge. During these home visits, it was determined that her sister, Sister B, was displaying delusional thinking as well. Sister A was started on antipsychotics while Sister B was managed non-pharmacologically. After commencement of antipsychotics, Sister A showed good response with improvement of symptoms, while Sister B continued to display delusional thinking. Discussion was made with the next-of-kin of both sisters, their nephew, and the decision was made to continue to observe these symptoms and monitor for their resolution with continued treatment of Sister A. A multidisciplinary approach was also used to attempt to reintegrate them into society to rebuild trust in the public. Currently both sisters still report vague paranoia of strangers in general and a multidisciplinary team is involved in improving their symptoms further.ConclusionsWith this case report, we hope to raise awareness of the different methods that are useful in the management of Folie a deux along with the challenges faced when managing these cases.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

When Sophocles wrote Electra's story, he gave her a sister, Chrysothemis. In their two scenes together, the sisters warn, entreat, cajole, insult, spar with, and proclaim affection for each other. While Electra maintains her public mourning for their father Agamemnon, Chrysothemis chooses not to openly defy his murderers, Aegisthus and their mother Clytemnestra, believing that resistance that accomplishes nothing is futile. Time has not been kind to this more pragmatic sister. In English-language criticism, she has acquired her own epithet, ‘timid’; her femininity has been dismissed as vacuous and her morality as driven by material self-interest. For many critics, she is a shallow and conventional figure whose main purpose is to act as a foil to the exceptional Electra. Since the pairing of a ‘stronger’ and a ‘weaker’ sister recurs in the depiction of Antigone and Ismene in Sophocles’ Antigone, this portrait of two contrasting sisters has been recognised since antiquity as distinctively Sophoclean, and the corresponding reduction of the sister–sister bond to a template has frequently precluded deeper examination of this relationship in both plays.

The focus of this research is on the effectiveness of the online service based on the Integrated Queuing System (SISTER) at Plasa Telkom Garut. This SISTER is an innovation and modernization of Telecommunication company services for fulfill customer needs in the PSBB situation. Simply by using a smartphone, customers can access the SISTER application anywhere and anytime according to the service schedule. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of SISTER Plasa Telkom Garut online services. The research method used is descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out by observation, documentation, and interviews with 8 informants who considered representative consisting of Plasa Telkom Garut as service providers and customers. The assessment of the effectiveness of sister services is seen from 3 aspects, namely the achievement of program objectives, integration and adaptation of services. The results of the study show that the SISTER is still not effective in giving customer service needs, there are still customers who have not been able to access technology, the socialization of services are still fixated on the distribution of brochures or flayers. In addition, from the results of the study, it is known that the supporting and inhibiting factors of the implementation of SISTER services at Plasa Telkom Garut.

SISTER is an application that is used so that educators, namely lecturers, can manage and manage and integrate all educator data services. This makes it easier because SISTER is integrated with the DIKTI database so that the tridharma activities of higher education carried out by lecturers are well documented. Musi Charitas Catholic University (UKMC) which has urged all its lecturers to use SISTER since 2020. In using this new application (SISTER), it will definitely cause problems for some lecturers. These constraints such as several points in SISTER that are different from the BKD guide, when saving data will appear: something went wrong, if there is a revision by the assessor, the lecturer cannot see it and only the college admin can see it. The constraints above show how users are prepared and behave when facing new technology. This study will use the TRAM method to see Technology Readiness and User Acceptance of SISTER. The result is that all independent variables affect the dependent variable except for the discomfort and insecurity variables. And the respondents agree with all the existing hypotheses based on the evidence in the discussion section because they are in accordance with what they feel while using SISTER. For the level of readiness of information technology, SISTER is included on a scale of 9 because SISTER is no longer a prototype but has also become a complete system

A goal of evolutionary biology is to understand the roles of geography and ecology in speciation. The recent shared ancestry of sister species can leave a major imprint on their geographical and ecological attributes, possibly revealing processes involved in speciation. We examined how ecological similarity, range overlap and range asymmetry are related to time since divergence of 71 sister species pairs in the California Floristic Province (CFP). We found that plants exhibit strikingly different age-range correlation patterns from those found for animals; the latter broadly support allopatric speciation as the primary mode of speciation. By contrast, plant sisters in the CFP were sympatric in 80% of cases and range sizes of sisters differed by a mean of 10-fold. Range overlap and range asymmetry were greatest in younger sisters. These results suggest that speciation mechanisms broadly grouped under ‘budding’ speciation, in which a larger ranged progenitor gives rise to a smaller ranged derivative species, are probably common. The ecological and reproductive similarity of sisters was significantly greater than that of sister–non-sister congeners for every trait assessed. However, shifts in at least one trait were present in 93% of the sister pairs; habitat and soil shifts were especially common. Ecological divergence did not increase with range overlap contrary to expectations under character displacement in sympatry. Our results suggest that vicariant speciation is more ubiquitous in animals than plants, perhaps owing to the sensitivity of plants to fine-scale environmental heterogeneity. Despite high levels of range overlap, ecological shifts in the process of budding speciation may result in low rates of fine-scale spatial co-occurrence. These results have implications for ecological studies of trait evolution and community assembly; despite high levels of sympatry, sister taxa and potentially other close relatives, may be missing from local communities.

In JRS 97 Sabine Huebner argued that the brother-sister marriages in Roman Egypt could be explained as marriages between an adopted son and a natural daughter, a widespread family strategy in the Eastern Mediterranean. Remijsen and Clarysse now return to the traditional view that Egyptians did marry their full sisters. Ancient authors considered brother-sister marriages as a peculiarity of the whole Egyptian population and, moreover, papyrological sources do not prove any connection between adoption and brother-sister marriage. Neither the household size nor the onomastic pattern in families with brother-sister marriages are consistent with the usual adoption practices of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Sister-chromatid cohesion, thought to be primarily mediated by the cohesin complex, is essential for chromosome segregation. The forces holding the two sisters resist the tendency of microtubules to prematurely pull sister DNAs apart and thereby prevent random segregation of the genome during mitosis, and consequent aneuploidy. By counteracting the spindle pulling forces, cohesion between the two sisters generates the tension necessary to stabilize microtubule–kinetochore attachments. Upon entry into anaphase, however, the linkages that hold the two sister DNAs must be rapidly destroyed to allow physical separation of chromatids. Anaphase cells must therefore possess mechanisms that ensure faithful segregation of single chromatids that are now attached stably to the spindle in a manner no longer dependent on tension. In the present review, we discuss the nature of the cohesive forces that hold sister chromatids together, the mechanisms that trigger their physical separation, and the anaphase-specific changes that ensure proper segregation of single chromatids during the later stages of mitosis.

Ideally in the family, the order of marriage starts from the eldest child. Then followed by the second child, the third child and so on. But the reality is different. There are many cases that the youngest child preceded the older brother or sister in marry. In many areas, stepping over older siblings in marriage is commonplace. It doesn't matter whether the one who gets married is a man or woman. However, in Tabu Baraie Nagari Paninjauan Tanah Datar, stepping over an older siblings in marriage is taboo, in particular an older sister. It is forbidden for a sister or brother to step over her/his older sister in marriage. Generally, the older sister who is stepped on by her sister's marriage, her life is single. The aims of this study was to determine the origin of the taboo to step over the marriage of older sisters in a sociological study.Keywords: marriage, stepping over the marriage, older sister.

Aplikasi SISTER merupakan aplikasi baru yang diluncurkan oleh Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya Iptek Dikti diharapkan mampu menjadi portal pada Perguruan Tinggi. Aplikasi dengan nama SISTER ini merupakan singkatan dari Sistem Informasi Sumber Daya Terintegrasi yang digunakan sebagai layanan yang berisi data pendidik, seperti portofolio, perubahan data dosen, dan proses-proses lain terkait dengan kepangkatan atau karir dosen. Setiap dosen memiliki berbagai informasi terkait dengan aktivitas tridarma, mulai dari latar belakang pendidikan, aktivitas pengajaran, aktivitas penelitian, aktivitas pengabdian kepada masyarakat, dan aktivitas pendukung. Seringkali data-data formal terkait aktivitas-aktivitas tersebut masih tercecer dan sulit ditemukan ketika dibutuhkan. Melalui SISTER, setiap dosen dapat membangun portofolio yang mengkompilasikan seluruh aktivitas tridarma yang pernah dilakukannya. Melalui SISTER juga, portofolio tersebut dipakai untuk proses-proses pengembangan karir dosen. Data yang ada di 3 portofolio dapat diklaim dalam proses penilaian angka kredit, sertifikasi dosen dan proses lainnya. Kemudian asesor/reviewer melakukan penilaian aktivitas dan produk yang telah di klaim tersebut. Integrasi antara SISTER dengan Pangkalan Data Dikti akan mengurangi beban dosen dalam pengisian portofolio. Semua aktivitas pengajaran tidak perlu diisikan ulang di SISTER. Data yang diisikan oleh dosen ke dalam SISTER dapat divalidasi oleh kepegawaian PT, pimpinan PT, pimpinan Kopertis, dan Kemenristekdikti.

As aspects of objectivity, emphasis on accuracy and ethical neutrality are the foundation for any credible “scientific” research. In the fields of social sciences, the altering, hiding, or mistaking of facts would lead only to confusion and diminished ability in addressing problems that beset the wellness of a social group. Consequently, all aspects of the present study are based on original Arabic texts.One ignored (sometimes deliberately concealed) aspect of the social life of Arab peoples is the “Brother-Sister Syndrome”. Its core component is the love between a brother and his sister and hostility between husband and wife. The syndrome is portrayed in a myriad of forms of traditional expressions including folktales, songs and jokes, as well as actual patterns of social interaction within the family. The present short story by a prominent novelist represents a case of elite literary creativity. Yet, it conforms to the attributes of the Brother-Sister Syndrome. In this respect, it shares the same narrative core of the Trilogy by Nigeeb Mahfouz, a Nobel Laureate novelist. The affective core of the Trilogy is the love of a young boy for his beautiful sister, and the fact that he is traumatized by her marriage and moving away. Having spied on her during the consummation of her marriage, he later in life associates this mental image of his sister in bed during that event with the consummation of marriage of an unattainable aristocrat maiden, CAydah Shaddad. A recent report deceptively ignores these salient facts. Thus, the Brother-Sister bond was totally missed and any opportunity to explore this critical psychosocial phenomenon was lost.
