Vanadium tailings from vanadium extraction by a sodium roasting process are solid waste and cannot be used in sintering and ironmaking due to their high sodium content. In this paper, a calcification and reduction roasting process was proposed to remove sodium from vanadium tailings. The effects of Ca(OH)2 addition, reduction temperature, and roasting time on the sodium removal behavior and compression strength of pellets were studied. The addition of Ca(OH)2 and the reduction of iron oxides promoted the sodium-containing phases to transform to be simpler, which could enhance sodium removal. The sodium removal rate was up to 93.47% and the compression strength of the reduced products was 4497 N/P, and the metallized ratio of the product was higher than 70% under the optimal conditions: roasting at 1200 °C for 2 h with the Ca(OH)2 addition of 35%. The treated product after removing sodium can be recycled in the ironmaking process in a steel company.

Although many British furniture manufacturers were increasingly aware of design innovation throughout the 1930s, and several even began to employ simpler forms and produce items in steel or plywood, the majority remained faithful to conservative styles. Efforts to educate the public about modern design went some way towards introducing greater levels of understanding – among producers and consumers both – but for many it was easier to play safe and continue along well-worn paths. During the post-war years, when a break with tradition and a culture more open to the Scandinavian aesthetic tentatively developed, the Glasgow firm Morris & Co. were one of those who embraced most fully these new ideas and who made a significant contribution to design innovation. Drawing business and design history together, this article discusses the ways in which the company championed the contemporary styles emanating from Europe and North America, how it positioned itself within the wider British manufacturing industry, and the ways in which its director, Neil Morris, envisaged for both his products and his firm a truly global reputation.

AbstractWhile various scholars of Indian economic history have focused on the progress of import substitution in India after the 1920s, few have studied why this led to hardly any export of industrial products during the colonial period. One of the most probable reasons for the lesser popularity of this issue could be attributed to a commonly shared view that there was less hope for the export of industrial products in colonial India since import substitution had progressed only so far. Although it is accepted that the industrial development of colonial India was generally stagnant, this does not necessarily apply to specific products in specific industries. For instance, the iron and steel industry achieved almost a full self-sufficiency rate for some of its steel products during the 1920s, although the industry hardly exported the products afterward. This paper aims to clarify why hardly any steel of the Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO), the only steel producing company with modern technology until the mid-1930s, was exported. A detailed study of the company's archives will show that the steel export of the company was fundamentally hindered by a fact which had its origin in British imperial policy: the strict quality specifications in the production of steel.

Production control of cashew nuts greatly affects the profits earned by the company. When cashew nut raw materials exceed production needs, it results in storing cashews for an extended period, causing the cashew products to lose freshness, and the quality of processed cashews deteriorates. If the raw materials are damaged, the manufacturer must acquire additional costs to procure raw materials again. Another issue is that cashew nut raw materials are seasonal products and are not always available. To solve these problems, a calculation method is needed to control optimal production inventory to minimize the company's expenditures. The method used is to formulate the problem into a Fuzzy Linear Programming mathematical model using a combination of methods: the Simplex algorithm and Duality Theory. The case implementation focuses on the uncertainty of cashew nut production quantities outside the harvest season. Moreover, the calculation of an optimal production quantity to minimize resulting losses is needed. The output generated is an optimal production prediction using the combination of the Simplex Algorithm and Duality Theory in solving Fuzzy Linear Programming.

PT. SPM is a steel cutting manufacturing company. PT. SPM encountered difficulties during the manufacturing process as a result of the large number of production products classified as defective, particularly flat steel products of the Flat LM type. The company will undoubtedly suffer a loss as a result of the high number of defective products. To reduce the number of defects in manufactured products and to minimize company losses, a study was conducted using the six sigma DMAIC method to ascertain the primary causes of defects and possible improvements. According to the results of the DMAIC analysis, the most prevalent types of defects were dimensional defects that did not match the percentage of 58 percent; non-elbow defects that did not match the percentage of 24 percent; and scratch defects that did not match the percentage of 17 percent. The value of the company's process capability remains less than one (0.776), and the sigma level remains less than six (3.88). There are numerous factors that contribute to defects, including operator negligence, suboptimal machine performance, and an unsupportive work environment. Numerous improvement proposals were made in response to priority issues, including developing SOPs for worker training, developing OPL for the cutting process, and developing machine maintenance checksheets.

The article discloses the accounting and analytical aspect of costs in the enterprise management system. In the production process, material, labor and other own and engaged resources are spent, which causes the occurrence of costs. The amount of incurred costs determines the competitiveness and profitability of the manufactured products, as well as the efficiency of indicators of the production activity of business entities. Management of the company's costs on the basis of the analysis of the elements of operating costs and the constituent items of the planned costing of finished products remains an urgent issue. The investigated metallurgical enterprise is part of the limited liability company «METINVEST HOLDING». In accordance with the legislation of Ukraine, the company maintains records and compiles financial statements according to international financial reporting standards, which ensure transparency and availability of information. It has been found that production is associated with costs, which play an important role in accounting and are of decisive importance in the formation of financial results of the business entity. The authors analyzed the indicators of the financial results of the «Metinvest» Group. The ratio of net debt to EBITDA was calculated, which shows how many years it will take Metinvest Group to repay its debt. Taking into account the production direction of the Private Joint-Stock Company «KAMET-STEEL», the dynamics of the elements of operating costs were determined according to the data of the Reports on the total income. The main tasks of cost accounting are argued and the elements of operating costs in PJSC «KAMET-STEEL» are detailed. It was determined that the biggest increase (negative changes) at the end of the reporting year, compared to the previous one, was material costs. It is proven that the determination of the cost of production is carried out with the help of costing, which is understood as the method of calculating or calculating the cost of a unit of manufactured products and its entire volume. Cost is a monetary expression of costs associated with the production and sale of products. Costing is a form, an accounting calculation, which is presented in tabular form and reflects the costs in monetary terms for the production of a unit of production or its entire volume. The article analyzes the articles of the planned costing of the blast furnace, liquid cast iron section of PJSC «KAMET-STEEL». The importance of calculating the cost price for cost management is summarized, as information is formed based on its data for further analysis in order to find opportunities to improve the efficiency of the company's operational activities.

Visual evaluation of samples on the inner surface revealed rolled defects significant clusters, close to each other, having a longitudinal orientation. The edges of the defects are tortuous, torn. Defects found on the inner surface of the pipes are characterized as steel melting captivity and swelling. The reason for the formation of internal defects of hot rolled pipes «steel-melting captivity and swelling» was the rolling of defects in the macrostructure of the central zone (central porosity and axial liquation) of a continuously cast workpiece with a diameter of 200 mm.

The management of waste, especially ferrous waste, poses great problems in the steel industry due to strict regulations on preventing, reducing, or even eliminating the factors that generate a high degree of environmental pollution (landfills resulting from the steel industry and adjacent industries—mining, energy, etc.). The present paper presents a synthesis of the specialized literature regarding the processes used, both worldwide and nationally, regarding the transformation of raw materials (ores or concentrates) and iron-containing waste (steel mill dust, mill scale and scale, sludge from agglomeration factories, sideritic waste, etc.) into by-products that can be used in the steel industry. For technological reasons, the option of pelletizing powdered waste was applied—in laboratory conditions, according to its own recipes, with results that justify the application of the technology on an industrial scale (appearance after hardening; drop resistance). The aim of the paper was to identify a practical solution; based on this solution, original conceptual models of organizational strategies (management and processing, respectively, recovery of ferrous waste within steel companies) were developed, such as a concentration strategy, diversification, vertical integration, etc. Within graphical representations of the proposed strategies, other processing variants were mentioned: agglomeration; briquetting.

The iron and steel industry plays a major role in Libyan urbanization. Iron and steel products are the main driving forces in the construction manufacturing sector in Libya. This research suggested a set of indicators to evaluate the sustainability of the iron and steel industry in Libya using a rough AHP model. Rough AHP analyses the relative importance of the criteria based on their preferences given by experts. The research results show that the most important criterion is costs followed by emission and waste. We have found that the rough AHP model can play an important role in improving indicators that quantify the advance towards sustainable development, especially when it is in a situation where complex environments (i.e., Libya) exist.

Nowdays, laser hardening of materials brings a comparative advantage over the conventional hardening technique. Fast cooling rate due to the heat distribution through its own bulk material, self-quenching property (rapid cooling without external water or oil), environmentally friendly characteristics since the procedure does not exhaust smoke, the localized heat input due to adjustable laser spot size to avoid distortion and minimum time to finish the operation are some of the advantages to mention. NIKO is a company specialized in making electrical products like socket outlets and switches by using injection molding techniques. Unimax is a kind of stainless steel used by the company to prepare some parts of the injection molding components like a Nozzle. This time, the company is using more and more fiber-reinforced polymers throughout their product line. These composites are far stronger than the polymer, but on the downside, the fibers are quite abrasive. The objective of this research was to harden the Unimax stainless steel using Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) laser technique. First, the laser transverse speed and spot size were identified as the primary process parameters. Then, the traverse speed of 100, 150 and 400 mm/min and spot size of 2164, 2169, 2288 and 2412 um were assigned with 3 replications. Afterwards, thermal simulation was done using COMSOL Multiphysics© followed by the real test on the metal bar. Therefore, the highest hardness of 650 HV was obtained at a speed of 150 mm/min and a spot size of 2169 um diameters. Finally, the corresponding depth of hardness and roughness values of 200 um below the surface and unmelt samples respectively were obtained. HIGHLIGHTS Laser hardening of materials brings a comparative advantage over the conventional hardening technique The laser transverse speed and spot size were identified as the primary process parameters. Afterwards, thermal simulation was done using COMSOL Multiphysics© followed by the real test on the stainless steel bar The depth of hardening and Vickers hardness (HV) increased with the smaller spot size and slow traverse speed of the ND:YAG laser, but this resulted in a melt on the surface of the hardened metal One of the problems of making products using injection molding techniques using fiber-reinforced polymers is the abrasive nature of the fibers which widen the injection nozzle GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

In a steel plant, one of the critical tasks of plant logistics is the transportation of the finished products. A steel company transportation system generally consists of a fleet of load-carrying trailers and rail, which are used to transport finished goods. In this paper, a two-stage mathematical model is developed for an Indian company that helps with strategic planning of the supply of finished construction steel (TMT Bar and Structural Steel) from multiple plant locations to the stockyards and then to the distributors. The transportation cost depends on various factors like the type of transportation mode, loading & unloading charges, and other fixed expenses. The steel demand also varies based on the season and other external factors like COVID-19, government policies, and so forth. The model proposed in the present research facilitates cost-effective network planning by achieving the most appropriate dispatching method considering various factors operating in multiple stages using a mixed fleet of trailers and rail. The model’s key objective is to optimize the transportation cost and demand for construction steel.

Every manufacturing company will strive to create the best quality products. This is also done by PT. CMSM, a steel company, is producing corrugated zinc products. In several production periods, the defective product values were still found that exceeded the tolerance limit value set at 0.5% in corrugated zinc products. These problems are, of course, very detrimental to the company, so it’s essential to control the quality of corrugated zinc products. This study aimed to determine the factors that cause product defects, propose plans to improve product quality, and provide managerial recommendations based on Six Sigma analysis. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the study results, it is known that DPO is 0.000885 and DPMO is 884.6028. At this time, the company is at the level of 4.64 sigma with CTQ (Critical to Quality) folded zinc sheet, cut size is not according to standard, thickness is not according to standard, uneven coating layer and perforated zinc sheet. Based on the analysis, five factors cause product defects: humans, machines, methods, materials, and the environment. To improve quality, the company should improve their quality control through 5W + 1H analysis, namely by providing training to employees, periodic machine maintenance and ensuring that the SOPs that have been made are implemented correctly and adequately. Production planning is a very important activity for companies in considering production factors ranging from the number of products that must be produced, when the product must be completed, and other things needed. Improper production planning risks causing losses to the company because the use of production costs and profit estimates are not optimized. One method that can be used in optimizing production planning is the fuzzy goal programming method. Fuzzy goal programming is an extension of linear programming that can solve problems of more than one goal in the presence of target constraints. This study aims to examine and apply the fuzzy goal programming method which is solved by the simplex method in Ayune Kitchen production planning by maximizing revenue and minimizing raw material costs. The data used in this study include product data (comb bread, dulce, brulee, mentai, lasagna, and briyani rice), production prices, and raw materials for making products from Ayune Kitchen which will be analyzed using linear programming and fuzzy goal programming methods. simplex. Caseoverview Alliance Intercontinental Sourcing Company LLP (ALLISCO) manufactured Steel Blanks for clutch plates used in two- and three-wheeler automobiles. Steel Blank plates further underwent a processing phase which included coating with leather cover to form the finished clutch plate. The primary raw material used by ALLISCO for its manufacturing process was sheet metal. The processing of the principal raw material resulted in the production of three joint products. The first joint product was “Steel Blank”, the main product; the second joint product was “Inner Circle”, which may be classified as a by-product; the third joint product was the left-over waste material and could be categorized as sheet scrap. The approximate increase in procurement cost of 8 per cent had considerably impacted the firm’s profit margins. The dilemma that Rishabh Singla, Managing Partner, ALLISCO, now faced was how the increased differential could be distributed systematically among the three joint products. The challenge for ALLISCO was to preserve the percentage of gross profit margins by altering its existing pricing strategy. Expectedlearning outcomes Understand the concept of multiple joint products; learn about choosing appropriate pricing strategies to price multiple joint products; comprehend how value-based pricing can extract untapped profits; and understand the importance of retaining gross profit margins (%). To compete effectively in the global marketplace of the twenty-first century, manufacturing companies are trying to maintain a high level of flexibility and responsiveness to achieve agility and to remain competitive. Manufacturers are under tremendous pressure to improve productivity and quality while reducing costs. The new competition is in terms of reduced cost, improved quality products with higher performance, a wider range of products and better services all delivered simultaneously to enhance value to customers. In such environment providing good quality product at low cost for a medium scale industry has become very tough. To provide good quality product at low cost, small industries need a formulation of some manufacturing approaches like agile manufacturing to manufacture defect free products within their materials cost limit. Medium scale steel manufacturing industries like Magnum steel limited (MSL), banmore are facing problems of higher rejections in form of wastes so as to increase their cost. This paper aims to analyze the application of agile manufacturing in magnum steel limited in order to reduce wastages through implementing lean tools and techniques. An agility audit questionnaire is used for assessing the agility level of the company to identify the current level of performance within the company with respect to the key elements of agility. The development of the industrial world from the manufacturing sector must always be carried out by each manufacturing company so that the products marketed are not dead in the market because they are less competitive than their competitors. This is what drives companies to always supervise and make improvements to improve the quality of the products produced. PT.XYZ is one of the manufacturing companies engaged in the national steel industry whose main activity is producing concrete reinforcement steel with the main raw material being hot billets. In carrying out its production, PT.XYZ is not uncommon to find the products that are rejected due to defects. This research was conducted to analyze the number of defective goods produced with the aim that the quality of the products obtained increases and the level of income obtained is more leverage using the Six Sigma method. Cause and effect diagrams (fishbone diagrams) and Pareto diagrams are also used in this study to determine the causes of existing problems and the scale of priority problems that must be solved first. Based on the calculation of the percentage of damage, it can be concluded that there are four cases of the highest defect products, namely: 63.93% non-standard length, 15.51% ear defects, 12.67% digestion, and 7.9% cracking. At the end of this study, the results show that the capability and sigma value of company performance in improving product quality amounted to 7916.2 DPMO with a sigma value of 3.916.

Firstly, the current situation in the Iron and Steel Industry in the world and Turkey are briefly discussed. In the second stage, the distribution to the demand point from the factory operating in the Iron and Steel Sector is considered as the basic problem. The demand points were determined as geographical regions. We have two targets: the total cost to be minimized and the total amount of goods to be sent from supply center to the demand centers to be equal to the total demand or supply amount. The optimum solution of the transportation model were solved both the traditional transportation model methods such as Vogels Approximation Method (VAM), Modified Distribution (MODI) method and the linear programming method. The optimal solution for last model was found using the R /SIMPLEX package program. Obtained results by different approachs are discussed. Critical aspect of this problem is to use the single source transportation model, where all demand amounts are met from a single production center.

We are comparing two heuristics, that do not require information of dispatching sequence of any stored products. We simulated the problem at hand with both methods. Our objective is to count the number of reshuffles using each heuristic on randomly generated examples and decide which is better in the long run. Our problem has similarities with storage assignment of steel plates or steel coils for minimization of reshuffling operations. The problem is also comparable to storage assignment of containers in a container yard. In our case we are dealing with a special stacking configuration of products, that demands different approach. We want to demonstrate which heuristic should be used in companies that lack necessary storage information infrastructure.

OJSC “BSW – Management Company of the Holding “BMC” produces a wide range of carbon, high‑quality, alloyed and high‑carbon steel grades, among which a signifi ant share is peritectic grade steels. Basically, the steel of this group is used to produce rolled products intended for the manufacture of components for the automotive industry. The process of production and casting of these steels is characterized by the greatest instability and is often accompanied by rejects and forced sorting of products. This situation is typical for other metallurgical enterprises. Therefore, the search for technological solutions that ensure an increase in the yield while maintaining the existing productivity of metallurgical units is an urgent aspect of improving the technology of continuous casting of peritectic grade steels. At the same time, the main scientific and technical task is to obtain a stable quality of continuously cast billets, aimed at preventing and eliminating the formation of a number of characteristic defects, primarily cracks on the surface of continuously cast billets and rolled products. The search for methods and technological solutions to improve the quality of products made of peritectic grade steel is the goal of the ongoing research.

In the business world, business people are required to produce good quality products to be able to compete with competitors. However, in the process, the production process does not always get good products, sometimes it gets damaged products in every process. There are 2 categories of damaged products requested by the company, namely damaged products that can be resold and also damaged products that cannot be sold anymore. The purpose of conducting this research analysis is to determine the effect of the accounting treatment of damaged products in the calculation of the cost of production. The accounting treatment of damaged products in PT Jatim Taman Steel, MFG Sidoarjo in fact is not in accordance with existing theoretical analysis, in the product price report in the production report section, damaged products that occur annually are included in the final product that is there every year, according to theoretical studies Damaged products are still treated as damaged products instead of being put into finished products. Some theories explain if the cost of goods reported, the cost of damaged goods is charged to the final product which results in higher cost of the final product per unit

The paper presents the main methods of technical-economical analysis of the quality of the metallic material production. The technical - economical analysis of the electric steels quality can be processed both for the product (electric steel) and for the company (electric steelworks). Both the analysis methods for products (A) and the ones for companies (B) are presented in comparison. There are mainly presented and analyzed a specific analysis models for steels elaboration in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). The main elements specific to the two categories of analysis methods, including mathematical models. The quality of the steels elaborated in the EAF is a very important parameter. From this point of view, there is the need of analyzing the electric steels quality in various methods, including by technical-economical ones. The technical - economical analysis of the electric steels quality can be processed both for the product (electric steel) and for the company (electric steelworks). For the technical - economical analysis for the electric steels quality, we can use two methods: methods of the analysis for the products quality (MAPQ); methods of the analysis for the companys (MACQ).

The steel industry, often regarded as the mother of industry, holds a pivotal role in fostering national economic independence and supporting vital infrastructure projects. In Indonesia, the development of the steel industry stands as a key indicator of industrial advancement. However, the landscape has evolved dramatically, with escalating competition not just from PT Krakatau Steel but also from numerous emerging competitors producing similar products. This dynamic situation demands an aggressive sales strategy to secure market dominance, especially given the challenges posed by both local and international competitors. Addressing this, PT Krakatau Steel faces the essential question of how to optimize steel sales, approaching or even matching the plant's installed capacity, amidst this competitive environment. The solution lies in proactive strategic planning, which involves a meticulous analysis of both external and internal factors. Recognizing the need for foresight, the company has employed scenario planning, envisioning potential futures for the steel industry. By considering variables like raw material prices and government policies, four scenarios emerged: Armageddon, The King, The King's Speech, and Cast Away. Each scenario prompts a specific set of strategies and actions. Moreover, the company has established early warning systems to discern which scenario might unfold, enabling timely and precise responses. This forward-thinking approach culminated in a comprehensive strategic plan designed to guide PT Krakatau Steel through the complexities and uncertainties of the business landscape over the next seven years.

Modelling and simulation of industrial systems have become a conventional method for productivity improvement through optimizing design, operation, performance and troubleshooting. This paper analyses the current Shearcut process flow through modelling and simulation. A case study research was undertaken at a steel processing company that transform steel coils into sheets, plates, slits, tubes, blanks and various roofing products. Two models were created using Arena software. The models were a representation of the process flow found in the Shearcut warehouse. The first model was developed from data obtained from production records and time studies that were carried out on some of the operations. Bottleneck stations and non-value adding operations were identified. The second model was created with some improvements that included reduced non-value adding times. Results from the second model had an improved output. This paper contributes to the use of computer simulation as a tool to improve productivity.
