The main objective of this study is to arrive at the formulation of a model through which to predict the mechanical specifications of the products of the longitudinal rolling mill of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company, using the multiple linear regression method, and in a simple, accurate manner through which the quality of the products can be controlled within the specifications approved by the Libyan Iron and Steel Company Given the proportions of the added chemicals, the mechanical specifications of the products were predicted from yield stress, tensile strength and elongation ratio, and the error rate in predicting these mechanical specifications was very close to zero. This research also contributes to introducing the Libyan Iron and Steel Company to the importance of prediction models for mechanical properties, which work to reduce the rate of uncertainty, especially with the development of forecasting methods that allow improving the degree of accuracy and help in making sound decisions.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the implementation of the ISO 9001-2015 management system on improving the quality standards of bridging steel products, this research method is quantitative. Data collection through questionnaires was carried out using simple random sampling technique and the number of respondents was 539, consisting of 493 executive employees and 27 respondents who were elements of the leadership of a reinforcing steel company in Jakarta. Data processing uses SPSS version 21 and uses the help of Microsoft Excel. The results of this study conclude that there is a strong and significant relationship between the ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System and the Reinforcing Steel Product Quality Standards in Jakarta. Taking into account the Pearson correlation value, it can be said that the relationship between both variables are very strong and dominant. The ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System that is positive in this case is the desire to be appreciated in carrying out work so that it can produce Quality Standards for Reinforcing Steel Products in accordance with applicable standards. The novelty of this research is the influence of the quality management system which has a significant effect on the quality standards of steel allowances. Vanadium tailings from vanadium extraction by a sodium roasting process are solid waste and cannot be used in sintering and ironmaking due to their high sodium content. In this paper, a calcification and reduction roasting process was proposed to remove sodium from vanadium tailings. The effects of Ca(OH)2 addition, reduction temperature, and roasting time on the sodium removal behavior and compression strength of pellets were studied. The addition of Ca(OH)2 and the reduction of iron oxides promoted the sodium-containing phases to transform to be simpler, which could enhance sodium removal. The sodium removal rate was up to 93.47% and the compression strength of the reduced products was 4497 N/P, and the metallized ratio of the product was higher than 70% under the optimal conditions: roasting at 1200 °C for 2 h with the Ca(OH)2 addition of 35%. The treated product after removing sodium can be recycled in the ironmaking process in a steel company.

Although many British furniture manufacturers were increasingly aware of design innovation throughout the 1930s, and several even began to employ simpler forms and produce items in steel or plywood, the majority remained faithful to conservative styles. Efforts to educate the public about modern design went some way towards introducing greater levels of understanding – among producers and consumers both – but for many it was easier to play safe and continue along well-worn paths. During the post-war years, when a break with tradition and a culture more open to the Scandinavian aesthetic tentatively developed, the Glasgow firm Morris & Co. were one of those who embraced most fully these new ideas and who made a significant contribution to design innovation. Drawing business and design history together, this article discusses the ways in which the company championed the contemporary styles emanating from Europe and North America, how it positioned itself within the wider British manufacturing industry, and the ways in which its director, Neil Morris, envisaged for both his products and his firm a truly global reputation.

AbstractWhile various scholars of Indian economic history have focused on the progress of import substitution in India after the 1920s, few have studied why this led to hardly any export of industrial products during the colonial period. One of the most probable reasons for the lesser popularity of this issue could be attributed to a commonly shared view that there was less hope for the export of industrial products in colonial India since import substitution had progressed only so far. Although it is accepted that the industrial development of colonial India was generally stagnant, this does not necessarily apply to specific products in specific industries. For instance, the iron and steel industry achieved almost a full self-sufficiency rate for some of its steel products during the 1920s, although the industry hardly exported the products afterward. This paper aims to clarify why hardly any steel of the Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO), the only steel producing company with modern technology until the mid-1930s, was exported. A detailed study of the company's archives will show that the steel export of the company was fundamentally hindered by a fact which had its origin in British imperial policy: the strict quality specifications in the production of steel.

Abstract The process of production and processing and preparation for distribution of steel products is associated with the requirements of maintaining appropriate procedures. They allow, in accordance with industry standards to avoid unforeseen problems associated with the preparation, implementation and finalization of activities aimed at achieving the intended purpose, which is a finished product of adequate quality and customer satisfaction. It is not always possible in the production process to meet all the requirements and technological, organizational and human factor recommendations. The analysis of selected problems, which includes the content of the article allows to significantly determine the factors and parameters associated with the preparation and technical implementation affecting the implementation of the intended objectives of the company, i.e. achieving an appropriate level of quality and minimizing the defects in the process of steel sheet preparation. Analysis of selected parameters was made on the basis of data obtained in the company operating on the international market Company Steel Service Poland. At the request of company representatives, the name has been changed due to the production data used in the article, which may be considered as sensitive. The article contains data based on research carried out in Steel Service Poland. Selected problems are the subject of analysis of steel sheets cutting processes with the analysis of causes of customer complaints with reference to the produced steel products. Selected steel grades and factors affecting the efficiency of the technological process are presented. The analysed set of factors translates into the level of product quality and reduction of arising defects.

The purpose of the study is to highlight the effectiveness of linear programming in determining of optimal combination of various products that an organization produces to maximize contribution. For this purpose, data for the month of July 2013 of a paint company in Pakistan has been obtained for one of the main products “Plastic Emulsion, " produced in three different sizes (quarter, gallon, and drummy). The simplex method is used to determine the optimal mix of these sizes to be produced to maximize contribution. The results show that the company can earn maximum contribution by only investing its resources (raw material) in the production of gallons and producing 444 units of it thus generating a contribution of Rs. 162038. This study will recognize this company and also the other manufacturing companies, particularly in Pakistan, with the effectiveness of linear programming for making decisions about the optimal combination of products to be produced to obtain the maximum return.

This paper aims to examine the application of strategic analysis with the TIROCA (Tangible Asset, Intangible Asset, and Organisational Capability) model as a basis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a company, namely, PT Steel Pipe Industry of Indonesia, Tbk. (PT SPINDO, Tbk.). The company is one of the steel pipe manufacturers in Indonesia. The company has the largest production capacity in Indonesia and has experience in producing various kinds of steel pipes / tubes and various other related products. The company is one of the largest steel pipe manufacturers with the largets production capacity in Indonesia. The paper used a case study research method in order to explore the strategic strengths and weaknesses of the company through its: tangible asset, intangible asset, and organisational capability. The results of the study show the company's superiority come from the following three-resources: (1) tangible resources are derived from the sophistication of machinery and factory equipment; (2) intangible resources are generated from the innovation and creativity of the firm’s HR in creating various products; and (3) organizational capability resources derived from the firm’s competencies and skills in managing product development and the ability to recruit HR.

The study evaluate advertising and performance of quoted multinational corporations in Nigeria using simple method in order to see if firm maximize their sale volume or not. The study use historical data from the period of 2000- 2009. The period is chosen because of the availability of the data. The population of this study included all the 16 quoted multinational corporations in Nigeria and 3 multinational corporations were selected. The use Q and M for windows to analysis the data and findings indicates that Nigerian Bottling Company, PZ and Unilever Plc maximize sales through the activities of advertising in various media in Nigeria. The study suggested that Nigerian Bottling Company, PZ and Unilever Plc should concentrated in their advertising programmes and also concentrated in developing a good product quality by ensuring that their products satisfy the needs and want of the host community. Nigerian Bottling Company and PZ should try to maximize sales through advertising but Unilever Plc should not maximized sales through advertising programmes. Nigerian Bottling Company and Unilever Plc should concentrate on profit after tax through advertising and PZ should realized that advertising can maximize profit after tax.

After joining in the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Taiwan’s steel import tariff has been comprehensively reduced to almost nil customs duties (duty-free) since the year 2004. As a result of overwhelming importation of steel products and continuous investment in enhancing and enlarging output capabilities made by local steel manufacturers, the domestic steel markets are showing a tendency to a surplus status of supply over demand. However, due to the increasingly strong demand of steel materials made by the China mainland in the recent years, it has been not only greatly helped put off the execution of the world-wide scattered anti-dumping trade remedy assistance measures since the year 2000, but also benefited the domestic major steel manufacturers adjusting and improving their market structure and profit advantages in time. This enables the local steel producers to gradually enlarge their export quantity and aggressively expand their steel output on China mainland in the meantime. While the steel industries are boomingly developing, the international steel prices are rising and the steel market bargains are boosting, I am firmly confident that only the steel enterprises are able to concentrate their attention on what the anti-dumping measures formulated by WTO are stated, and to take appropriate dealing actions in the meantime, the competitive edge will be able to be elevated by the domestic steel producers. Therefore, to immediately setup information system on the forecast of dumping prediction and the knowledge of anti-dumping measures is a prerequisite to facilitate enhancing the enterprise’s competitive edge and superiority. The results of this research are made into two fields on the application of a dumping prediction about the coated/galvanized plate steel products. i.e. (1) In line with the WTO regulations and the US anti-dumping law, I have made various collection concerning the information of law articles, dumping items, documents as well as miscellaneous information and have combined them into one consolidated concept to construct an up-dated dumping pre-warning alarm system. (2) Further study was made on the pre-warning subject concerning price negotiations and price finalizations of the S company’s marketing department between the phases of order reception and goods issue. The result I discovered is that it is critically important for the enterprise to systematically pin down and appropriately structure its sales prices in advance and timely notice the pre-warning alarm measures in linking with the marketing model team before the entrepreneur is facing an international anti-dumping complaint or accusation in this regard.

Stainless steel pipe is widely used in machinery manufacturing industry, mainly used as steam, liquefied natural gas, natural gas, various petroleum products transmission pipeline. China is the largest consumer of stainless steel tube in the world, and in recent years the total consumption of stainless steel accounted for more than 20% of the total consumption in the world. Stainless steel pipe has good mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance, so it is widely used in the ocean engineering and shipbuilding industry, which is widely used in offshore oil and gas fields, deep water pumps, offshore drilling platforms, seabed mining devices, warships and other aspects. In this paper, the leakage of stainless steel seamless steel pipe used by a company is studied to discuss the failure behavior of stainless steel seamless steel pipe. The microstructure analysis shows that the fracture surface has the characteristics of stress corrosion crack. Chemical composition analysis, chemical composition of the sample GB/T 13296-2013 “Seamless Stainless Steel Tubes for Boilers and Heat exchangers” requirements for S31708 stainless steel; SEM and EDS detection: the corrosion products of seamless steel pipe fracture and the scale composition in the tube were detected. The corrosive medium Cl was found in the scale composition detection, and no obvious corrosive medium was found in the corrosion products of the fracture surface.

House building projects are distinctive, and the degree of customisation creates bottlenecks in the design process and challenges for production, which results in longer lead time and higher costs. Aligned with a product platform approach, previous studies have introduced cost-effective approaches such as standardisation, modularization, configurators, etc. Still, components that cannot be completely modularized and configured due to high complexity level, may require a lot of engineering efforts during development. A platform approach that can be used to support engineer-to-order products that change over time still needs to be explored. The application of parametric modelling to automate the design process in the construction industry has the potential to further increase both the design and production efficiency. Thus, the objective of this research is to apply parametric modelling in the design of steel connectors used in a glulam based post and beam building system as part of a flexible product platform for increased design and production efficiency. A single case study has been carried out with a Swedish multi-storey house building company. Empirical data were gathered from a workshop with the design team followed by interviews, and document analysis. A computer-supported method for the steel bracket connectors has been developed, that connects post and beam components with pre-defined rules and constraints as part of the platform development. The result contributes to expanding knowledge about the development of a flexible product platform for improved design process and downstream production of customised components with parametric modelling support in the industrial post and beam buildng system.

Abstract The API flange design is a well-known commonly used solution. The flange concept was developed in late 1920s and 1930s by Waters and Taylor. The design methodology of the flange was published in 1937[1], well known as the “Taylor Forge method”. This is still the basis of the present ASME flange calculation. The design is based on the simple elastic principles and linear stress analysis/calculations. The conventional flange type dimensions are described in API 6A [2] and analyzed in API 6AF [3] and 6AF2 [4]. On the other hand, the Compact Flange concept was presented first by Webjørn in 1989 VCF joint [5]. It is based on plastic theory equations and plastic collapse capacity. In 1989 the initial concept was adopted by the Steel Product Offshore (SPO) company for oil industry by equipping flange with HX seal ring for raiser and subsea use. After that a topside budget version (with simpler IX seal ring) was prepared by SPO and presented on PVP 2002 conference [6][7][8]. The Compact Standardized and simplified flange design with IX seal ring is defined and described in ISO-27509 [9]. As for today, along ASME B.16.5 [10] pressure classes range, SPO CF 5K, 10K, 15K and 20K rating flange classes were designed and are in use. The main advantages for CF design are reliability, low weight/compact dimensions and static behavior compared to the conventional design. The design is already well known and commonly uses for European region (mostly Norway). Despite its benefits, CF is still rare outside Europe region. A comparison between those two different concepts will be presented in this paper followed by the examples and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). In case of FEA the Compact Flange design is more suited to the plastic collapse analysis than to elastic stress evaluation as it is for API, therefore comparison between different FEA approaches will be studied in addition.

Edging of slab is an important process to reduce and control width in the roughing area of hot strip mills. Width reduction amount that is required for edger in every pass is computed in the form of a very complicated on-line computer model. The model which previously was used for computation of width in roughing strip mill of Iran’s Foolad Mobarakeh Company did not have acceptable accuracy and caused many problems in final product width. Obviating these problems and adopting a reasonable and optimal way in allocating the width reduction amount of edger in every pass, the process of width reduction was put under close examination and an off-line computer model was written that precisely computes the width reduction. The performed computations by this model in roughing strip mill of this company were put to use; this was followed by very satisfactory results. Finally, according to the obtained results, the on-line model was corrected. Correction of the aforementioned model has had a significant effect in increase of quality and decrease of damages of hot strip mill products.

When frictional sliding is initiated, the coefficient of friction is often high during the initial transient running-in process. After that, the coefficient of friction reaches its stationary value. Running-in is interpreted as friction-induced self-organization stage in that two sliding surfaces adjust to each other due to surface roughness evolution. Shannon entropy was proposed as a surface roughness parameter, and its decrease can be used as a simple test for self-organization. Sliding experiments were conducted on the hard steel plate using a soft Al-Mg alloy pin under both dry and lubricated conditions. Based on the results of the surface profile evolution, obtained by an optical profilometer, during running-in, we discuss change of Shannon entropy for various surface textures. Various textures which are characterized in terms of roughness parameters were produced on the steel plates. We compare how self-organization occurs for different textures during running-in stage.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Let’s start with the uncomfortable truth, climate change is happening, and the automotive industrial network is one of the main industries contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">SKF is an energy intensive business – directly using energy, mainly in the form of electricity and gas, in its operations around the world. In addition, SKF utilizes materials, predominantly steel, and services which can be energy and carbon intensive – such as transports and raw material in production and processing. The combined impact of these direct and indirect energy uses (scope 1, 2 and 3 upstream) generates an excess of over two million metric tons of CO2e per year. This figure would however be significantly higher were it not for the actions SKF has taken to reduce both energy and carbon intensity. In 2000, we were one of the first companies to start to report and set climate targets. Acting on energy and material efficiency improvements and by switching to renewable energy, SKF is targeting decarbonizing its operations by 2030 and reaching net zero emissions throughout the value chain, by 2050. Those targets are SBTi approved.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">To drive the decarbonization journey, we have to quantify how much emissions are embedded in our products in order to drive actions and compare alternatives to reduce them. SKF has in portfolio different tools that have been developed to calculate the footprint of our products. These tools permit to compare different scenario and drive our customers towards more sustainable solutions. SKF is able to run emission analysis at different level, from simple methods, based on publicly available data, to more complex calculation that are using mainly primary data.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">In the transportation segment, the impact on emissions during use phase is and remains a major area of focus. The market is progressively moving toward zero tailpipe emissions vehicles, and our products play a key role in increasing vehicle autonomy through ultra low friction features.</div></div>

Abstract To achieve 24% portion of natural gas in targeted national energy mix in 2050, Indonesia government has integrated Pertagas, biggest transmission company into PGN, biggest distribution company under Oil & Gas Holding Pertamina. But survey from PWC in 2004 resulted that around 75% post-merger companies reported integration difficulties, especially both companies have long history of competition. Even more, government mandated 6 USD gas price policy at plant gate, which create enormous urgency to accelerate pipeline and digital integration in the most efficient way. Especially, in this pandemic era, midstream industry needs to foster digital transformation by rethinking outdated business models and strategically applying technology to change rather than focusing on simply cutting costs. From this integration, Pertagas with more than 2,418 km pipeline in 12 provinces spread from Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan has a big potency to be synergized with PGN, as Sub Holding Gas with the total of 10,169 km of pipeline which represent 96% of national gas infrastructure. During 2020. Both companies resulted more than 1.255 MMSCFD of transported gas and 828 BBTUD of sales gas to more than 460 thousand customers. So, PGN and Pertagas management has high expectation on this digital integration to transform from previous fragmented pipeline to be interconnected network to give flexibility in reaching unmet growing demand of strategic industry like refinery, fertilizer, electricity, steel and petrochemical in post-COVID recovery. In this paper, will be described the challenges and its solutions as a success story in digital integration. The important steps start from strategy development, digital assessment, creating coalition, culture acculturation, and change management are explained as guiding pathway for sustainable implementation. It will also portray the measured benefit and value from investment cost efficiency, time effectiveness from the initiation until launched, billing improvement, product development, and up to developed real-time integrated management dashboard for better decision making and part of the milestone for future National Dispatching Center for optimizing Sub Holding Gas portfolio of gas supply and subsidiary's infrastructure to meet growing Indonesia's demand.

Abstract Saudi Aramco has been a major player in the LPG (Propane and Butane) market since the 1960s and the company continues to be the source of benchmark pricing in the industry. A variety of refrigerated storage tank concepts have been developed to support international export of LPG products. Currently the industry has shifted to the use of safer full containment tank systems which have the capability to contain liquid and vapor release. Economic implementation of new tank systems has the potential of improving safety at company facilities. The benefit of the full containment storage tank is attractive given that the industry is focused on safety and environmental protection. However, the implementation of this technology is challenging due to the cost. Establishing selection criteria is important for economic implementation of any tank type. The paper explores the key design aspects of each type of tank arrangement based on risk assessment, project requirements and economic factors. The paper provides a case study of a current Saudi Aramco project being planned for new installation of LPG storage tanks at a size of one million barrels for both propane and butane services. The risk assessment examined the compliance, business interruption, environmental impact and other factors related to tank containment failures. The risk assessment and technoeconomic study demonstrates that the double steel full containment design is preferred over the prestressed concrete outer container with steel inner container. The double wall steel full containment tank system has been successfully deployed in facilities at sites around the world including at Marcus Hook, PA in the United Sates and Salalah in Oman. Single containment storage tank is not recommended for large scale of LPG storage or when tank is situated with other nearby facilities. Moreover, single containment type requires more plot area due to external diking requirements compared with double wall and full containment storage designs. Optimization of tank type selection may result in reduction of 6 to 8 months in project schedule and savings to the project of up to 70% of the storage tank installation cost. A risk assessment on different storage tanks designs reveals that the double steel wall full containment design is optimal from a cost and schedule prospective.

Abstract Many scientific developments pioneered by governmental research organizations are subsequently applied to consumer products. The use of shape memory alloys (SMAs) by NASA at the end of the 20th century motivated companies to incorporate these materials and their unique properties into marketable goods. In 1997, NASA reported that the Nicklaus Golf Company had developed a line of SMA-augmented golf clubs; the company claimed that its SMA club inserts reduced vibration and imparted greater spin on balls during contact. Inspired by these claims of enhanced performance, this work investigates the impact of SMA clubfaces on golf ball carry distance and shot accuracy for several clubface contact locations and slice angles. For each combination of shot parameters tested, the ball exit velocity and spin were computed via finite element analysis (FEA) using an explicit dynamic model that accounts for stress-induced phase transformation in SMA material regions and golf ball responses calibrated from experimental testing. The exit velocity and spin rate were used to calculate the ball flight trajectories for each case simulated. Alloy and design assumptions, including the addition of an internal cavity, were made to facilitate the development of stresses necessary for meaningful SMA material responses during clubface-ball impacts. These assumptions lead to findings such as nearly equivalent performances for geometrically identical clubheads with steel and SMA clubface inserts. Overall, this work shows that the use of reasonable SMA materials in a clubhead operating under normal weather conditions is inconsequential to shot accuracy and carry distance.

The T407/GLC38 turboprop/turboshaft engine is a 6000 shaft horsepower (SHP) class gas turbine engine currently under joint development by Textron Lycoming of Stratford, Connecticut, and GE Aircraft Engines of Lynn, Massachusetts, with Bendix Control of South Bend, Indiana, a division of Allied Signal; Ruston Gas Turbines Limited of Great Britain, part of GEC ALSTHOM; and Steel Products Engineering Company (SPECO) of Springfield, Ohio. The powerplant is derived from the highly successful GE27 Modern Technology Demonstrator Engine (MTDE) program, which was conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army in the mid-1980s. The T407 turboprop is currently under development for the U.S. Navy’s new P-7A anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft. The P-7A will replace the P-3 and is under contract to Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company (LASC). A T407 turboshaft model is also in development. The GLC38 commercial turboprop version, planned for both business and commuter aircraft, draws considerably on lessons learned through GE and Textron Lycoming’s extensive commercial experience, thereby ensuring the latest state of the art in maintainability, life, reliability, and ease of operation. The T407/GLC38 engine development program, scheduled for completion in December 1991, is uniquely defined to meet the stringent requirements of both Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and Military Specification MIL-E-008593E. The engine’s primary identity will be commercial, however, as per agreement with the U.S. Navy. The engine’s gas generator core is also part of a joint venture between the Garrett Engine Division of Allied Signal Corporation and GE. Garrett is responsible for developing the fan and power turbine for a new generation turbofan engine, the CFE738. This paper describes the key features of the T407/GLC38 engine design, performance, and development program.

Kuwait currently produces about 3 million barrels of crude oil per day and has a large pipeline network system for handling its oil and associated products (condensate, low pressure and high pressure gas, as well as produced and effluent waters). The total length of the pipeline network is about 4790 Km consisting of API 5L Grade-B carbon steel ranging in diameter from 100 mm to 1830 mm. The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is responsible for the corrosion and integrity management of the pipeline network system which involves: Internal Corrosion Monitoring to assess the internal corrosion status of the pipelines including the occurrence of microbial influenced corrosion; external corrosion protection with the help of coatings and cathodic protection, and periodic intelligent and cleaning pigging operations for internal corrosion assessment and cleaning. The present paper focuses on the internal corrosion management of the export crude segment of the pipeline network system which is very important for a healthy economy. The internal corrosion monitoring protocol includes, online corrosion monitoring, cleaning pigging and intelligent pigging. Bacteria counts’ trending is also included as part of protocol. Some anomalies between the results obtained from corrosion trends, cleaning pigging results and intelligent pigging are highlighted and a sound engineering explanation is attempted to explain these apparent anomalies.

Zinc consumption growth is driven by urbanization and industrialization primarily in developing economies through the galvanization of steel and die casting with end use in the construction, automobile, and machinery parts industries. While global consumption will increase from 13.6Mt in 2022 to 19.8Mt in 2050, growth will slow to 1.2% through structural change in global consumption patterns and decreasing zinc intensities in first use and end use products. To meet this growth in demand, refined zinc supply and mine supply production will need to increase. In the short term, refined zinc capacity at smelters can increase by improvements in utilization rates, and we forecast this to be sufficient until the end of the decade. Later, demand will have to be met with new capacity coming online. The requirement for new zinc mine supply by 2032 is expected to reach 5.6Mt and will necessitate a healthy project pipeline and available finance to construct it. Whilst there is no shortage of projects that could step in, the average lead time from exploration to construction is 14 years and dependent on a variety of risk factors. Recent junior and development company financing has shown strong activity since late 2020 and the size of funding is loosely correlated to the stage of development at which the project is currently in. This suggests that right now, zinc projects are of interest to investors irrespective of which stage of development they are in. Project capital intensities have been in-creasing from their historical average and competitiveness of projects remains linked to their envisaged cash (C1) operating cost. Geology affects a mine’s cashflow in various ways. Projects coming into production have been more polymetallic in nature in recent years, which tends to help to reduce cashflow risk through diversification. Geology also impacts concentrate quality which has implications for product marketing and therefore future revenue. For SedEx, Irish-type and MVT deposits, concentrates typically produced are sought after products by smelters around the World.

Existing industry standards do not adequately address all the issues related to construction and operation of pipelines to transport fluids containing both liquid water and hydrogen sulfide (H2 S), commonly called wet sour service or sour-service applications. The lack of industry standardization for sour service is significant because some commercially available line pipe, fittings and flanges are susceptible to failure when exposed to sour service. The failures that can occur are due to damage of carbon steel as a result of the corrosion reaction between H2 S and carbon steel. Operators of sour-service systems have developed company-specific or project-specific practices and specifications for design, construction, operation and maintenance of those systems. One result of company-specific and/or project-specific specifications is a lack of standardization in sour-service line pipe, fittings and flanges. The lack of standardization in sour-service piping components results in additional costs for initial construction, modification and maintenance of sour-service systems. The objective of this project was to develop recommended practices that a knowledgeable user can apply to the specification of line pipe, fittings and flanges for use in construction of pipelines and piping systems to transport fluids containing both liquid water and H2S. Development of recommended practices for construction, modification and maintenance of sour-service systems was outside the scope of this project. This report includes a discussion of the current understanding of broad issues relating to sour-service pipelines. This discussion is a summary of the more important issues rather than a critical review of all related literature on the subject of sour service. This report includes recommended specification criteria for line pipe, fittings and flanges in expository format. These criteria provide guidance for preparation of the specifications in commercial language for sour-service line pipe, fittings and flanges. These criteria should allow users to modify existing specifications for ordinary-service piping components to specifications suitable for sour service. This project included a survey of LPRSC members and producers of line pipe, fittings and flanges recommended by committee members. The goal of these surveys was to collect current information about the range of member practices and products readily available from surveyed producers.
