Over the centuries, China still respectfully treasures rich Asian cultures, traditions, and customs. China is now famous all over the world for its mysterious wonders and cultural & natural heritages such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Terracotta Army, etc. The Chinese history is full with the exposition of outstanding features of Chinese culture such as great thoughts of Confucius, religious beliefs, traditional festivals and customs e.g., Chinese new year, language and calligraphy e.g., Shu Fa, four great inventions of ancient China e.g., papermaking, printing, gunpowder and the compass, traditional architecture and sculpture, traditional art forms, etc. The era of history of China before the time in power of Qin dynasty is known by name as the period of Warring States. This period started from 475 BC and ends at 221 BC. Seven Warring States were included in it i.e. Qin, Wei, Han, Yan, Chu, Zhao, and Qi. Zheng was the King of Qin, who started his journey to triumph over 6 states in the period of 230 BC. Qin was the 1st emperor of this unified state of China. Thus he was known by the name of “First Emperor of Qin” or “Qin Shi Huang”. This study provides a deep insight of Chinese history and it is illustrated that major achievements in Chinese culture and history are contributed in the era of Qin dynasty.

In Ying Xian Fogong Si Shijia Ta 應縣佛宮寺釋迦塔 (Sakyamuni Pagoda of Fogong Temple in Ying County), Shanxi, there are statues set on each floor, and 26 exist in total, with six murals painted on the first floor. The pagoda was designed as a vertically rising Buddhist temple, and the interior space of each floor was customized for the statues. Based on previous research and through surveying and mapping of the architecture and statuary (including the murals on the first floor) combined with geometric design analysis, this paper proposes the following: First, there exists a clear geometric proportion among the interior space and statues on each floor of the pagoda. Second, clear proportional relationships also exist among the statues on each floor, and each of the 26 statues has ‘classical’ proportion rules. Third, the height of the giant Buddha statue on the first floor is the module for not only the height of the statues on each floor but also the construction of the whole pagoda such that the height of the statue on the first floor is 1/6 of the total height of the pagoda (excluding the base). And the ratio of the pagoda’s total height to the first floor’s diameter, the ratio of the total height to the top-story height under the column capital, and all the other geometric proportions are closely related to the architectural modeling. And finally, in the construction of the pagoda, statues, and murals, the scale is deduced to be 1 chi 尺 (Chinese foot) = 29.5 cm. These values give clear scale logics not only to the construction but also to the details of the statues. Accordingly, the most frequently used proportions in the architectural space, statues, and murals of the Pagoda of Fogong Temple are 2, 3:2, 5:3 (or 8:5), and 9:5, which are imbued with cultural messages, like Zhou Bi Suan Jing 周髀算經 (The Mathematical classic of the Zhou shadow-gauging instrument), Ying Zao Fa Shi 營造法式 (Treatise on Architectural Methods or State Building Standards), the ancient Chinese world view—tian yuan di fang 天圜地方 (the dome-shaped heaven and the flat, square earth) reflected from “ yuan fang tu 圓方圖 (rounded-square map)” and “fang yuan tu 方圓圖 (squared-circle map)”, ancient Chinese ideas that ”san tian liang di er yi shu 參天兩地而倚數 (‘three’ is the number of the heaven and ‘two’ is the number of the earth, and all numbers are based on them)” and “jiu wu zhi zun 九五之尊 (nine and five are the numbers of the honorable central position)”, and most probably related to the “mandala” of Esoteric Buddhism and to the Western “Golden Ratio”, which all need further research in depth.

Abstract *Zi Chan in Volume 6 and *Shi fa in Volume 4 of Tsinghua University Collection of Warring States Bamboo-slip Manuscripts were written by one scribe. This study aims to use features of the brushwork to demonstrate this. In addition, this study will also examine physical features of the bamboo slips, handwriting, character forms, the orthography of different states, punctuation marks, erasures, and the binding of the bamboo slips. The texts of both manuscripts were first written and then bound. Research on the arrangement of *Shi fa and the layout of its text enriches our understanding about the activity of writing among Pre-Qin people, how ancient books were compiled, and how scrolls were opened.

Abstract Fanconi anemia (FA) is a genetic disorder characterized by bone marrow failure, a predisposition to cancer, congenital abnormalities and a cellular hypersensitivity to DNA interstrand cross-linking agents. This hypersensitivity in FA cells correlates with a defect in ability to repair interstrand cross-links. We have shown that the structural protein, nonerythroid a spectrin (aIISp), plays an important role in the repair of DNA interstrand cross-links and that there is a deficiency in aIISp in FA cells. The reduced levels of aIISp in FA cells are due to reduced stability of this protein. We propose that the stability of aIISp is dependent upon one or more of the FA proteins. The present study was undertaken in order to get a clearer understanding of the proposed role of FA proteins in maintaining the stability of aIISp in the cell and the functional importance of this relationship in the repair of DNA interstrand cross-links and the repair defect in FA cells. For these studies, FA proteins were examined for their ability to directly interact with aIISp and, if so, to map the sites of interaction. Four overlapping regions of aIISp were constructed and binding of FA proteins to each of these regions was examined using yeast two-hybrid analysis. Of the proteins examined, FANCG was found to interact with one of these regions of aIISp and specifically with the SH3 domain within this region. The site of interaction in FANCG was mapped to a SH3 domain binding motif, which contains a consensus sequence with preference for the SH3 domain of aIISp. The sites of interaction in both FANCG and aIISp were confirmed using site-directed mutagenesis. Two FA proteins that did not contain any SH3 binding motifs, FANCC and FANCF, did not interact with the SH3 domain of aIISp or any of the other regions of aIISp. These results thus demonstrate that one of the FA proteins, FANCG, contains a class of motifs that has specificity for binding to SH3 domains and binds to the SH3 domain of aIISp via this motif. This binding is important in the DNA repair process and in the FA repair defect, as is shown by our in vivo studies in which FA-G cells, transformed with the FANCG cDNA and stably expressing FANCG, showed normal levels of aIISp and a correction of the defect in ability to repair DNA interstrand cross-links. We therefore propose that the binding of FANCG to aIISp is not only important for the stability of aIISp in cells but also for the role aIISp plays in the DNA repair process. Thus a deficiency in FANCG, such as occurs in FA-G cells, could lead to reduced stability of aIISp which in turn could be an important factor in the defective DNA repair pathway in FA cells.

Atividade física regular pode ajudar a reduzir o estresse e melhorar as condições para o sistema musculoesquelético. Programas de exercícios terapêuticos chineses são utilizados por milhares de pessoas, porém poucos estudos avaliaram seu efeito sobre trabalhadores de serviços administrativos em uma população ocidental. O objetivo do presente artigo foi avaliar o efeito do exercício terapêutico chinês Lian Gong Shi Ba Fa na condição dolorosa de trabalhadores de um serviço administrativo. Foi realizado um ensaio clínico analítico tendo como amostra 48 trabalhadores de um serviço administrativo. Foi utilizado o Questionário Nórdico de Sintomas Osteomusculares (QNMQ) e a escala visual analógica (EVA) associada à algometria de pressão. O programa de exercícios consiste em 18 exercícios realizados em 15 minutos, 2 vezes na semana e implementado em um período de 1 mês. Abstract BACKGROUND Outcome of children with medulloblastoma (MB) and Fanconi Anemia (FA), an inherited DNA repair deficiency, has not systematically been described. Treatment is complicated by high vulnerability to treatment-associated side effects, yet structured data are lacking. This study provides a comprehensive overview about clinical and molecular characteristics of pediatric FA MB patients. METHODS Clinical data including detailed information on treatment and toxicities of six previously unreported FA MB patients were supplemented with data of 16 published cases. RESULTS We identified 22 cases of children with FA and MB with clinical data available. Biological subgroup was SHH in all cases with data available (n=9), confirmed by methylation profiling in five patients. FA MB patients exclusively belonged to complementation groups FA-D1 (n=16) or FA-N (n=3). Patients were treated with postoperative chemotherapy only (50%) or radiotherapy (RT)±chemotherapy (27%). 23% did not receive adjuvant therapy. Excessive treatment-related toxicities were frequent. Severe hematological toxicity occurred in 91% of patients treated with alkylating chemotherapy, while non-alkylating agents and RT were less toxic. 14 patients (63.6%) developed 20 other malignancies, of which ten occurred before, five simultaneously with and five after MB diagnosis. Median overall survival (OS) was 1 year (95%CI 0.3-1.9). 1-year-progression-free-survival (PFS) was 26.3±10.1% and 1-year-OS was 42.1±11.3%. Adjuvant therapy prolonged survival (1y-OS/1y-PFS 0%/0% without adjuvant therapy vs. 53.3±12.9%/33.3±12.2% with adjuvant therapy, p=0.006/p=0.086), with no difference whether the patient had received chemotherapy only or RT±chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS MB in FA patients is strongly associated with SHH activation and FA-D1/FA-N. Despite the dismal prognosis, adjuvant therapy may improve survival. Non-alkylating chemotherapy and RT are feasible in selected patients with careful monitoring of toxicities and dose adjustments. Unlike in standard MB protocols, focal RT may be considered in FA MB patients. Curative therapy for FA MB-SHH remains an unmet medical need.

ABSTRACT Src kinase is a crucial mediator of adhesion-related signaling and motility. Src binds to focal adhesion kinase (FAK) through its SH2 domain and subsequently activates it for phosphorylation of downstream substrates. In addition to this binding function, data suggested that the SH2 domain might also perform an important role in targeting Src to focal adhesions (FAs) to enable further substrate phosphorylations. To examine this, we engineered an R175L mutation in cSrc to prevent the interaction with FAK pY397. This constitutively open Src kinase mediated up-regulated substrate phosphorylation in SYF cells but was unable to promote malignant transformation. Significantly, SrcR175L cells also had a profound motility defect and an impaired FA generation capacity. Importantly, we were able to recapitulate wild-type motile behavior and FA formation by directing the kinase to FAs, clearly implicating the SH2 domain in recruitment to FAK and indicating that this targeting capacity, and not simply Src-FAK scaffolding, was critical for normal Src function.

The Camuno dialect uses an auxiliary fa ‘do’ in an interrogative construction that strongly resembles English do-support. Stages of its grammaticalization remain within the different valley dialects. When optional, fa-support (FS) coexists with verb-subject clitic inversion (SCI), e.g fa-la mangià (does she eat) / màngia-la (eats-she)‘l peh da hena? (the fish for supper?) There are semantic restrictions on the type of supported verb: manner > result > state. Questions are pragmatically marked with speaker answer expectations, and are opinion-seeking. A wh-item (normally ‘insitu’) has specific reference. Impersonal questions are agrammatical with optional FS but not obligatory FS. A biclausal model with a lexically rich fa ‘do’ is suggested for optional FS.

This essay attempts a critical rereading of the well-known film by the Chinese director Fei Mu. When first released in 1948, Spring in a Small Town was judged derogatorily by critics in the then-rising communist China as a reactionary work, one that they considered to perpetuate China's feudal beliefs and customs. Through a reading of the Yuwen's voiceover narration, the scenes in which she and Zhichen play out their strong passion for each other in words and gestures, and the melodramatic ending of the reconciliation between Yuwen and Liyan, this chapter raises questions about the relations among female sexuality, culture, and nature in this specific context. Above all, the chapter interrogates the basis that seems to unite the film's director and his critics-that is, a collective consensus on the necessity of repression, as expressed in the Confucian moral-aethetic dictum, fa huqing, zhi hu li ([poetry is] springing from the emotions, stopping at the rules of propriety), a dictum that was not only conveyed by Fei Mu as an instruction to the actors but also reiterated as an ethical principle in much of the critical literature on the film.

Abstract Esprit-Claude-Franc, ois Calvet was born in the papal enclave of Avignon on 28 November 1728 at 6 p.m. with two teeth. His father, Claude-Joseph, was 54,a man of some substance in the city living of fa private income in his own house on the Rue Pugelle, which was located in the parish of Sainte-Madeleine, one of the rich quartiers of the city to the west of the Palaisdes Papes. Claude- Joseph (see Ill. 1) had married late, and his only immediate family were two sisters-Claire and Anne (see Fig. 1.1). Calvet’s mother, Marguerite, on the other hand, was only 29 and belonged to a large brood of three brothers and four sisters. She was the daughter of Esprit-Franc, ois d ‘Hugues, and belonged to a family of merchants and lawyers with close links to the city government (see Fig. 1.2). The couple had married three years before on 9 January 1725, and Esprit-Claude-François was their first and only child. The Calvets were a prominent family both in Avignon and Villeneuve-le’s-Avignon, the neighbouring town across the Rhone in the kingdom of France. One Gabriel Calvet had moved to the area from Toulouse in the mid-fifteenth century and his son and heir, Nicolas (died 1512), had had four surviving sons who went on to establish their own separate dynasties. Doubtless capitalizing on the fact that Gabriel was descended from a capitoul of Toulouse, two branches of the family at least established the right to be considered noble. At the turn of the eighteenth century a number of Calvets of Avignon were serving officers in the French army and navy; others were local lawyers and judges.

This paper provides an account of more than a year’s fieldwork with a small group of Falun Gong members in New Zealand. The narrative begins in 2005 with my hopes of helping the group, and ends in a haze of mysterious communications, threats and accusations, which continue today – a decade after the research project was finished. The chapter shows how Falun Gong members in Western countries have forged an identity for their spiritual path as a group subjected to human rights violations for simply doing breathing exercises. The Rachlin media group (Falun Gong’s former Public Relations organisation) created the narrative, re-casting apocalyptic leader Li Hongzhi as a hero akin to Gandhi, who has mobilised millions of followers to non-violently resist an oppressive regime. In accord with this story, practitioners have staged headline-generating events, despatched thousands of press releases, and protested any portrayal that is not in accord with their new image. But Li’s writings to members tell a different narrative to the one told in the Western media. Drawing on my ethnographic research, the author discusses the differences between the group’s public and private communications. Using James Scott’s frame – the higher the stakes involved, the greater the discrepancy between an oppressed group’s public and hidden transcripts (Domination and the Arts of Resistance: Hidden Transcripts. Yale University Press 1990) – Heather Kavan observes that while practitioners revised their publicly proclaimed ideology to appeal to Western moral ideals of amelioration of suffering and personal freedom, these ideals were not part of their in-group communications. Rather, sacrifice, martyrdom, and exclusivity were intrinsic to members’ beliefs and life choices. To illustrate the focus on suffering and martyrdom, the author analyses practitioners’ responses when a frail, older member was denied refugee status and was returning to China to her likely imprisonment. Heather Kavan discusses why practitioners refused to pass on a message that would assist the woman and possibly save her life, preferring to embrace Li Hongzhi’s views that suffering is to be prized. The chapter closes with an outline of the responses to Heather Kavan's study. She discusses the internet passages about her that resulted in several Falun Gong authors being banned from Wikipedia, and the lingering shadowy harassment of which she could never be sure whether the protagonists were from the Chinese government or Falun Gong. Heather Kavan interprets harassment from Falun Gong as an expression of Li Hongzhi’s ‘stepping forward’ ideology in which practitioners must defend his version of the fa to compete for entry into heaven, which only allows for limited numbers.

Introduction: Phyllodes tumor (PT) of the breast is an infrequent neoplasm, which corresponds to less than 0.5% of the breast tumors. The age group at the greatest risk in women is between 35 and 55 years of age. They are classified as benign (60%–75%), borderline (15%–20%), and malignant (10%–20%). In their less aggressive form, they behave like benign fibroadenomas (FA), however, with a tendency to recur locally after excision without wide margins. In contrast, they may present a metastatic component in its most aggressive form. In general, they are referred to as voluminous tumors, larger than 5 cm, painless, of firm consistency, with a raised or lobulated surface, well defined, movable, and without compromising the skin or deep tissues. They are associated with inflammatory axillary nodes in 17% and metastatic in about 1%. Systemic spread is rare and primarily affects the lungs, bones, liver, and brain. However, the preoperative diagnosis is very difficult, since its clinical presentation, in imaging examinations and in biopsies, is like to FA, requiring surgical excision of the lesion for diagnostic confirmation. Surgical treatment alone is the first therapeutic choice. In smaller tumors, general segmental surgical resection with margins of at least 1 cm is necessary for local control. In very voluminous tumors, total mastectomy or adenomastectomy is performed, without the need for axillary dissection, due to the low probability of lymphatic metastasis. Adjuvant radiotherapy is controversial, with a reduction in the rate of relapses, but without a reduction in mortality. A 67-year-old patient came to the gynecology emergency deparment reporting an ulcerated lesion in the right breast for 3 months, associated with intense right breast tenderness and local fetid secretion. She reported an involuntary weight loss of 6 kg and a progressive increase in the lesion, which at the time of the consultation affected practically the entire breast. She reported active smoking for 40 years. On physical examination, a necrotic-looking tumor was observed, occupying all quadrants of the right breast, with local fetid secretion. She underwent core biopsy, which resulted in a poorly differentiated, high-grade malignant neoplasm in the breast and skin on the right, with breast neoplasia to immunohistochemical marking of prognostic factors: estrogen receptor (ER) negative, progesterone receptor (PR) negative, KI67 positive 50%, and HER2 negative. She underwent right mastectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy. The anatomopathological conclusion reported histological aspects of a malignant PT of the breast (cystosarcoma phyllodes). The tumor measured 21×15×9.5 cm, with a high-grade epithelioid appearance and necrosis in 60% of the neoplasm, in addition to the ulcerated skin affected by the malignant lesion, with areola and nipple free of invasion. The margins were free and there was no evidence of vascular invasion. In all, 30 mitotic figures were present in 10 CGA in sarcomatous areas. Two sentinel lymph nodes were isolated and were free of neoplasia. Immunohistochemistry was repeated: KI67 is 45%, HER2, ER, and PR are all negative. The patient was referred for outpatient follow-up at Clinical Oncology, which started adjuvant radiotherapy.

Fibroepithelial tumors of the breast are part of a heterogeneous group of biphasic neoplasms, which include common fibroadenomas (FA) and phyllodes tumors (PTs). The PT is a rare fibroepithelial tumor that is histologically divided into three grades: benign, malignant, or borderline. Although only about 10% of these tumors are malignant, even benign tumors are prone to local recurrence and can become very large in size. The standard management of PT is surgical excision with negative surgical margins, due to the propensity for local recurrence. Therefore, the report about this type of tumor with multiple recurrences and malignization in the same person is important for the literature. A female patient, 30 years old, without comorbidities, with an obstetrical history of an abortion due to anembryonic egg and with a previous oncological history of four left breast segmental resections for the removal of solid nodules, confirmed anatomopathologically as borderline PT, benign PT, FA, and benign PT, respectively, in the years 2017, 2018, 2018, and 2019, was observed. No intercurrences were noted in the follow-up with a mastologist who found, in the physical examination, the presence of nodules and a palpable left breast, which caused discomfort when lying in the left decubitus position, with painless, nonsecretive, without palpable lymph nodes, and with accelerated growth. Ultrasonography revealed the presence of simple cysts in the right breast and two solid nodules BI-RADS 4 compatible with the diagnostic hypothesis of PT; therefore, surgical resection was indicated. However, with the increase in the volume of the nodules, it was not possible to obtain free margins and a simple mastectomy was chosen. On November 11, 2021, a left mastectomy was performed with partial resection of the pectoralis major muscle due to an intraoperative infiltrative lesion and immediate breast reconstruction with the placement of silicone prosthesis, without complications. In the anatomopathological examination, a malignant PT was identified with an infiltrative border pattern and the presence of neoplastic infiltration in the underlying skeletal muscle tissue. On December 23, 2021, the oncologist informed that the CT-PET performed days before denoted the absence of sites suggestive of a neoplastic process and the presence of a probable inflammatory scarring process in the left breast around the breast prosthesis. She is currently being followed up by the mastologist and the oncologist, through imagining examinations together with the clinical consultation, without the use of chemotherapies.

En l'àmbit de la pilota valenciana s'assisteix a un escenari en què la gestió de la pràctica obeeix a interessos particulars i no a l'expressió d'un conflicte o a la denúncia de la desigualtat. La classe hegemònica valenciana ha fet una política institucional en què s'ha apropiat de les emocions i els afectes. A través d'una pràctica tradicional ha articulat un discurs que dota als valencians d'història i identitat. La pilota en el trinquet tradicional és, de fet, una pràctica cultural que encarna una resistència al canvi cultural. Aliè a les revolucions burgeses és una pràctica subalterna contrahegemònica que tensiona el debat institucional sobre la pràctica sense voler erigir-se com una institució a l'ús. Ultra això, roman com una pràctica en què la vessant tradicional, cultural i local preval per damunt de l'esportivització completa. Si el neolliberalisme ha trobat en l'esport l'escenari perfecte per plasmar el seu poder hegemònic, les institucions públiques valencianes han cercat un consens a fi d'esportificar aquest joc arrossegat en la lluita per adaptar-s'hi o morir, per mirar el present i afrontar el futur, és a dir, han intentat sotmetre la pràctica a una domesticació segons els canons esportius. D'aquesta manera es tempta la capacitat de renunciar a allò que fa aquesta pràctica diferent. S'ha entès el paradigma globalitzador com una relació de poder simètrica en una escala micro local-macro global i no s'ha considerat que la relació pot ser asimètrica i que, per tant, podria contemplar un canvi polèmic i conflictiu en què sentiments i emocions formen part d'aquesta política, si més no, tenint en compte que el desencant ha emergit entren els agents que configuren la pràctica arran d'aquestes decisions i que els conats de rebel·lia i inconformisme han estat eliminats quan els agents han intentat empoderar el canvi. La fraternitat i l'empatia amb els poder fàctics han estat els sentiments naturalitzats de manera que no s'atisbe cap element conflictiu i qüestionable a fi d'evitar incomodar i fer resorgir el conflicte. S'ha optat per amagar-ne d'altres com la resignació. Així, en un col·lectiu que, històricament, ha estat estigmatitzat per la ideologia hegemònica hi ha una desafecció cap a les institucions democràtiques valencianes que són vistes com alienes i contraproduents.
