Streszczenie:
In land seismic data processing, picking the first arrivals and imaging the near-surface velocity structures are important tasks. However, in many areas, the near-surface weathering layer includes high-velocity reversals, causing the first arrivals to exhibit shingling effects, which are difficult for picking at the far offset. We have used an acoustic full-waveform modeling method in a multilayered half-space to simulate first arrivals with the velocity reversal. Numerical tests indicate that under certain conditions, shingling occurs if the seismic wave propagates through a thin velocity reversal layer embedded in the shallow structures. Detection of shingling is essential for the selection of valid near-surface imaging solutions, such as first-arrival refraction, or waveform solutions for the appropriate areas. We find that an automated detection scheme that uses unsupervised machine learning can help identify the velocity reversal. We test the method on synthetic and real data, and the testing shows that the automated detection result matches our visual judgment well. After the automated detection, appropriate inversion approaches can be applied to corresponding areas.

Streszczenie:
Various problems are just rising with regard to mining in massive datasets, among which finding similar documents can be pinpointed. The Shingling method converts this problem to a set-based problem. Some of existing methods have used min-hashing to compress the results already driven from the shingling method and then have exploited LSH method to find candidate pairs for similarity search from all pairs of documents. In this paper, an apriori-based method is proposed for finding similar documents based on frequent itemset mining approach. To this end, the apriori algorithm is modified and is customized for similarity search problem. Modeling the similarity search problem as a frequent pattern mining problem, using a modified version of apriori, and dynamic selection the minimum support threshold are the most important advantages of the proposed method, which lead to its appropriate execution time and high quality results. The proposed method finds similar documents in less time than the combined method and MCVM method because it generates fewer candidate pairs for finding similar documents. Furthermore, experimental results show the high quality of the answers of the proposed methods.

Streszczenie:
Protichnites eremita from the Cambrian Elk Mound Group of Wisconsin is reinterpreted based on new material and trackway experiments. Two new forms of P. eremita suggest that the discrete medial imprints of these traces could be produced by the segmented postabdomen of euthycarcinoids from the same deposit. Form 1 could have been produced by a pair of euthycarcinoids traveling together, like in limulid amplexus, where both individuals made imprints with their postabdomens. In this scenario, if one individual held its postabdomen to the left side, it is possible to produce left-handed shingling in trackways and angled segmentation of each medial imprint. Form 2 could have been produced by a single animal traveling in arcing or tightly looping paths. Experimentally-produced medial imprints yield morphologies that are consistent with both trackway forms. Thus, it seems more likely that P. eremita was produced directly by the animal's body (alone or paired) rather than by employing hermit-like behavior.

Streszczenie:
The growth of the web, authoring software, and electronic publishing has led to the emergence of a new type of document collection that is decentralised, amorphous, dynamic, and anarchic. In such collections, redundancy is a significant issue. Documents can spread and propagate across such collections without any control or moderation. Redundancy can interfere with the information retrieval process, leading to decreased user amenity in accessing information from these collections, and thus must be effectively managed. The precise definition of redundancy varies with the application. We restrict ourselves to documents that are co-derivative: those that share a common heritage, and hence contain passages of common text. We explore document fingerprinting, a well-known technique for the detection of co-derivative document pairs. Our new lossless fingerprinting algorithm improves the effectiveness of a range of document fingerprinting approaches. We empirically show that our algorithm can be highly effective at discovering co-derivative document pairs in large collections. We study the occurrence and management of redundancy in a range of application domains. On the web, we find that document fingerprinting is able to identify widespread redundancy, and that this redundancy has a significant detrimental effect on the quality of search results. Based on user studies, we suggest that redundancy is most appropriately managed as a postprocessing step on the ranked list and explain how and why this should be done. In the genomic area of sequence homology search, we explain why the existing techniques for redundancy discovery are increasingly inefficient, and present a critique of the current approaches to redundancy management. We show how document fingerprinting with a modified version of our algorithm provides significant efficiency improvements, and propose a new approach to redundancy management based on wildcards. We demonstrate that our scheme provides the benefits of existing techniques but does not have their deficiencies. Redundancy in distributed information retrieval systems - where different parts of the collection are searched by autonomous servers - cannot be effectively managed using traditional fingerprinting techniques. We thus propose a new data structure, the grainy hash vector, for redundancy detection and management in this environment. We show in preliminary tests that the grainy hash vector is able to accurately detect a good proportion of redundant document pairs while maintaining low resource usage.

Streszczenie:
We consider the problem of reconciling similar strings in a distributed system. Specifically, we are interested in performing this reconciliation in an efficient manner, minimizing the communication cost. Our problem applies to several types of large-scale distributed networks, file synchronization utilities, and any system that manages the consistency of string encoded ordered data. We present the novel Recursive Content-Dependent Shingling (RCDS) protocol that can handle large strings and has the communication complexity that scales with the edit distance between the reconciling strings. Also, we provide analysis, experimental results, and comparisons to existing synchronization software such as the Rsync utility with an implementation of our protocol.

The purpose of the research is to investigate the seniors who partake in Daoism activities and their successful aging. The study is based on surveys by the followers of Shin Ling Temple that were randomly selected. Three hundred participants were randomly selected, and 268 valid samples were collected, including 136 completed by elderly over the age of 65. In order to understand the relationship between different types of religious activities and their contribution to elderly health, the contents of the survey includes: A、spiritual entrustment;B、social status improvement;C 、 studying of religious text;D、 leisure;E 、 participation in Qigong. This study has found that: (1) Through their participation, the elderly gain spiritual satisfaction and happiness in mind. (2) They elderly are able to openly accept aging as a part of life, and pay special attention to the importance staying healthy. (3) The participation in religious( Daoism ) activities is helpful in the transformation from adulthood into elderly in terms of living conditions and value, so that they accept aging without difficulties and become proud, self-respected elderly. The research findings showed that the intrinsic motivation factors which affect the senior citizens to continue learning are “spiritual sustenance,” “the Daoist scripture studies,” “recreation,” and “Qigong exercise (which is also called breathing exercise)”; the extrinsic motivation factor is to “enhance social status.” Keywords: Elderly, Daoism activities, Health promotion
