Streszczenie:
Given the high prevalence of sexual assault within both the general population and among college student samples, professionals working in a wide range of medical and mental health care settings should be prepared to address the acute and long-term physical and psychological consequences of sexual assault. It is also important to be aware of the prevalence and service needs among victims of sexual assault who seek acute medical care. This chapter reviews data regarding the prevalence and characteristics of rape and sexual assault, approaches to assessing sexual assault history, acute and long-term victim concerns and consequences associated with rape, access to and utilization of post-assault medical care and other agency services, and prevention and early intervention approaches that may be implemented in the medical setting.

Streszczenie:
Psalm 139 has been used by pro-lifers and gay rights activists to argue for foetal rights and LGBT rights, respectively. The poet speaks of God’s surveillance from the womb, but why is God’s surveillance so valued by interpreters, rather than dreaded (as in the book of Job)? This essay explores why this Psalm is so politically potent, using a metonymic feminist reading strategy to interrogate the ways in which scripture is used to confer rights. Spinoza’s comment on Psalm 139 leads to a consideration of scripture in relation to bodies and affect. The Psalm’s surveillance produces bodily experiences of threat and bodily fragmentation, while also ameliorating that threat by providing a sense of security through time. The results are the positive emotions of allegiance to God and appreciation of surveillance. Identifying readers gain a feeling of agency, a model for rights-bearing political subjectivity as interior, fixed, and known by God.

Ward, Tony, i Anthony Beech. The explanation of sexual offending. Redaktor Teela Sanders. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780190213633.013.3.

Streszczenie:
This essay focuses on four core issues and their normative implications associated with the “theory problem” as it relates to sexual offending. First, a critical task is to build multi-level and interfield theories that are directly responsive to the complex nature of human functioning and psychological architecture. Second, an important cognitive task is to take seriously the level of human agency and mental state psychological explanations of action. This requires accepting the significance of values and personal meanings, and appreciating that social and cultural practices causally influence a person’s sense of self and purpose in life. Third, we need to shift our attention from construct validity procedures and look to understand underlying causal processes. A preoccupation with measurement may trap us into surface-level explanations. Finally, some degree of integration should be attempted between research and conceptual work on dynamic risk factors and that on aetiological theories.

Streszczenie:
This book provides answers for the questions of the when, who, how, and what of sociopolitical change and finds solutions to the dilemmas inherent in the idea of the political subject. It introduces the idea of the moment of the limit to theorize the moment when feminist agency is possible in late capitalist societies despite the ways in which power subordinates people. It introduces the idea of the political subject-in-outline to theorize the who of sociopolitical change, which challenges political and feminist thought that aims at giving up on the subject or theorizing it as a “constantly shifting” identity. Such a political subject moves within the tension of a certain coherence (the subject) necessary to effect change, and permanent openness (the outline) necessary to counter its exclusionary character. It shows that theory and practice are equally important tools of how people can change the world, and that they must conceptualize theory and practice as never finished, but rather as ongoing projects, to become transformative. It conceptualizes a new concept of suffering that envisions what spurs on social change in the bodily moment of suffering that tells people that things should be different. It also explains the ways in which the idea of the political subject-in-outline embraces the concept of the unconscious, and rejects the language of recognition. Finally, it shows that for theorizing a mediated relationship between oppositions, people must make the unconscious link of the working classes, women, racial, and sexual minorities to the negative pole conscious.
