Streszczenie:
Recognizing that the central figures of their Faith wrote poems, members of the Bahá’í community rightly honor poetry. Unlike non-Bahá’í artists who may feel unappreciated and estranged from society because they have no shared view of the universe and whose poetry may become increasingly obscure, private, and difficult, the Bahá’í who writes poems enjoys a sense of family with an international audience made up of people who hold similar spiritual values and aspirations, and the Bahá’í poet can joyfully restate the eternal themes traditionally addressed in poetry, taking care to avoid imitating the Sacred Texts. In the process of engaging in this craft, the Bahá’í poet will be performing an act of worship which should not only transform the writer but also hold before readers the possibility of their being transformed too. White’s poem, “Rescue,” is cited to illustrate the point that transformation must originate from within the individual.

The idea of a collection of letters from a Roman senator to his equestrian friend might encourage the reader familiar with the Letters of Cicero to expect a certain kind of self-revelation. Seneca, like Cicero, was one of the most prominent men in Rome in his own time. We might expect his letters to tell us his views on the emperor Nero, for instance, or what his motives were for retiring from public life (as he had done by the time he came to write the Letters). But readers of Seneca's Letters, at least in modern times, have often felt disappointed at his failure to provide information about himself and the world he lives in.

Streszczenie:
Democratic theories that argue for expanding the scope and domain of democracy assume that democratic experiences will transform individuals in democratic ways. Individuals are likely to become more public-spirited, tolerant, knowledgeable, and self-reflective than they would otherwise be. This assumption depends on viewing the self as socially and discursively constituted, a view that contrasts with the standard liberal-democratic view of the self as prepolitically constituted and narrowly self-interested. The importance of the social and discursive view of the self is that it highlights how standard assumptions about the self help to justify limits to democratic participation. As now conceptualized, however, the transformational assumption does not meet standard objections to expanding democracy. I sketch an approach that distinguishes classes of interests according to their potentials for democratic transformation, and strengthens—by qualifying—transformative expectations in democratic theory.

This paper focuses on the process of self-transformation through which a person comes to embody the ideal of her religion’s vision of the divine, as far as that ideal is expressible in a human life. The paper is concerned with the self as the subject of religious commitments, traits, religious aspirations and religiously inspired ideals. The self-transformative journey that people are invited to undertake poses a number of philosophical and practical difficulties; the paper explores some of these difficulties, concentrating on those that arise in connection with the notion of potential future selves. This paper suggests that imaginative reflection upon exemplary individuals provides one way through these difficulties, for these individuals can show us what it looks like when someone achieves, or draws close to, the ideal.

The present doctoral thesis established advanced optical read-out and characterisation methods for the in-depth analysis of chemical reactions, such as the quantification of reaction events or kinetic analysis, via state-of-the-art chemiluminescence systems. Critically, an optical read-out for the quantification of para-fluoro – thiol reaction events was established employing the chemiluminescence of Schaap’s dioxetane on the one hand, and peroxyoxalate chemiluminescence was employed for the qualitative assessment of single-chain nanoparticle unfolding on the other hand. Both chemiluminescence systems present promising tools for the in-depth characterisation of macromolecular architectures and their transformations.

As with utopian promises, where technology contributes to the convenience and welfare of human society, technology also has the contradictory consequences of enforcing humans to conform to a biased politics often without negotiation. How do I, as an individual, challenge such unwanted enforcement? Can I meet this challenge without producing yet another coercive technology? In this thesis, I argue that technologies for transforming the self can function as emancipatory strategies against such coercive technologies, without reproducing them. My hypothesis is that these technologies for transforming the self can be achieved through strategizing and experimenting with the self. This strategizing and experimentation involve identifying and exploring the following conditions: standing on the border of both sides of ambivalence in the self-technology relationship, taking the risk of failure in this position, and expanding these conditions to multiple selves. The repetition of strategizing and experimenting with the self can generate constant self-transformations. To test/experiment this hypothesis, I design and activate performative situations for self-transformative experiences of an individual, and a group. In these situations, objects act as catalysts and structures for action and dialogue, while revealing the ambivalence in them-as technologies of coercion and freedom.

Streszczenie:
This thesis reflectively and critically examines a series of research case studies initiated by a research-whānau. It explores the thinking, experiences and reflections of this research-whānau, as they worked to enhance the educational achievement of Māori students. Authorship of the thesis was undertaken by me (Mere Berryman). However, the methodology involved a collaborative, retrospective and critical reflection of research-whānau experiences and thinking, in the light of the research findings and experiences since the inception of this research-whānau in 1991. In the course of this work, the research-whānau have been able to explore what it has meant to put the principles of kaupapa Māori research into practice while working within a mainstream organisation (Specialist Education Services then the Ministry of Education). Our research work has involved repositioning ourselves from dependence on Western research methodologies to a better understanding and application of kaupapa Māori conceptualisations of research. The thesis begins by identifying mainstream and kaupapa Māori events that have historically and still continue to impact upon Māori students' educational experiences. These events provide the wider context for the work of this research-whānau at the interface of Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Pākehā, and for the 11 case studies that exemplify changes in our thinking and research practice over a period of 15 years. The thesis employs an indigenous (and specifically Māori) worldview as the framework for description, critical reflection, and theorising around these case studies. Common themes are collaboratively co-constructed then each theme is explained in relation to relevant Māori theory. The thesis concludes with the shifts in theorising and practice made by the research-whānau during the course of our work as we sought to contribute in ways that were more transformative and self-determining. We argue that these shifts in theorising and practice are also required of others if we are to change the status quo and contribute constructively to improving Māori students' potential.

Fusaro, Anaïs. "Mourning, writing, (self-)transformation : the autofiction of Serge Doubrovsky". Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/15583.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This thesis investigates the capacity of mourning to transform one's life into writing. Since mourning impacts each individual in a very unique way, its effect in the field of life-writing is incommensurable. In this respect, the changes brought about in the 20th century by the works of Serge Doubrovsky are remarkable: through the exploration of his eight autofictions (word which he coined in 1977) in addition to his six essays on literature, this study demonstrates how his experience of mourning has challenged and redefined the borders of autobiography. This investigation starts with the observation of the writer-narrator's writing drive, which emerges from a threefold experience of death: the loss of his mother, the trauma of World War II, and the perspective of his own death. The first section argues that writing transforms the private experience of mourning into memory. Since forgetfulness threatens memory, memory must be saved and disseminated; this is why Serge Doubrovsky composes his autofiction as literature which is made of, and which belongs to, memories. The second section observes how mourning transforms the experience of writing and reading: a focus on ‘ressassement' shows the impact of mourning on writing and how the writer-narrator turns this uncontrollable sign of trauma into his own distinct writing style, called ‘écriture consonnantique'. These transformations participate in the mutation of the writer-reader, fiction-reality, and autobiography-autofiction relationships. The last section observes these abnormal alloys through the lens of the monster. Autofiction could be considered as a monstrous genre, insofar as it recognises the work of the writer to fashion a whole new story out of fragmented and repeated memories in a creative process. Overall, this study assesses Serge Doubrovsky's ability to challenge existing literary boundaries, and to create, beyond the breach of mourning and within the splits of language, an interdisciplinary work that deeps on renewing literature.

Streszczenie:
The purpose of this self-study research was to create new knowledge about teacher transformation and social justice education. The research was guided by the overarching question: What is the relationship between self-knowledge and social justice education? Over the course of the two-year study, using teaching journals to develop a disciplined practice of self- reflection on social justice practices in teaching, the researcher found that the practice of teaching for social justice is enhanced through an awareness of self. The researcher described transformation with language from Theory U (Scharmer, 2009). Theory U is a learning organization model for transformational leadership. The study is framed within the research literature on critical pedagogy and transformative leadership. The primary data for this self-study research were journal entries, which were coded and analyzed using a grounded theory method to allow for patterns and themes to emerge. This research establishes a new theoretical framework for social justice teaching that weaves self-study, critical pedagogy, transformative leadership theory (U for Social Justice). One of the significant findings of this research is that cultivating a sustained attention to self-awareness through intentional reflective and contemplative practices is a key aspect of developing authentic social justice pedagogy and publicly claiming a role as a transformative leader for social justice.

Honeywell, David. "Ex-prisoners and the transformation of self through higher education". Thesis, University of York, 2018. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/22109/.

Streszczenie:
This study explores how experiences of higher education among ex-prisoner’s impact upon their path to desistance. It examines their initial catalysts for change and how education enabled them to re-evaluate their sense of selves and provide them with new identities. Through the use of 24 face-to-face semi-structured interviews examining the experiences of ex-prisoners who are studying for degrees, have graduated and in some cases gained successful academic positions, the participants were asked to talk about their life experiences including their childhoods, offending, prison, desistance, employment and the reasons behind why they chose to enter higher education. Their catalysts for change ranged from their experiences of prison where they encountered existential crises created by the pains of imprisonment; how others viewed them; the strengthening of social bonds; to the belief and trust afforded by others being prepared to give them a second chance. Beyond prison, they experienced prolonged periods of liminality where they became trapped in limbo between two social worlds caused by stigma, labelling and rejection. But their unfaltering resilience, persistence and belief and hope for a better future eventually enabled them to develop new identities which were further transformed by external influences as they made their transitions into ‘conventional society’. Some preferred to reject their past identities, while others merged their past and new identities to become successful in their chosen career paths. Some have remained in academe where they continue to use their past experiences to inform their teaching and research while others have become counselling professionals viewing themselves as ‘wounded healers’ by helping others with substance and alcohol issues and homelessness. But all of them used higher education as their conduit to aspire towards self-betterment, a renewed self-belief and self-concept which enabled them to transform their lives.

Streszczenie:
This dissertation focuses on the understanding of self from the perspective of classic American pragmatism, of which I select James, Peirce, Mead, and Dewey as representative figures. The central concept of this study is the transformation of self. It is in this particular aspect, which I take also as a major theme of classic American pragmatism, that I find a possibility of fresh and revivifying approach to the old problem of self-knowledge and the ongoing debate of selfhood. I try to demonstrate that for pragmatists, the question What is a self? cannot be answered without placing it into the context of the process of self-transformation and reconstruction. To achieve this, I examine the notions of self and self-transformation in each thinker, while at the same time trying to weave them into a larger picture. Classic American pragmatists, as I try to illuminate, by their unique takes on experience, others, and community, provide us not only a theoretical approach to keep the old project of self-inquiry vibrating, but also a practical possibility to reconstruct an enterprise of humanity.

Streszczenie:
Through an exploration of representations of metamorphosis and the creation of a body of written work, this thesis uses a critical examination of theoretical approaches to metamorphosis in combination with textual analysis of representations of metamorphosis and creative practice as research to arrive at the beginnings of an ethic of writing. The creative work, The Coming, consists of a collection of short fiction, The Coming, and two collections of poetry, Orison and Milagros. The exegesis, Transhuman Change: towards an ethic of writing, explores theories about metamorphosis as a figure for writing, as a trope, and as a motif for exploring identity to contextualise the analysis of representations of metamorphosis from which the ethic is developed. With reference to the psychosexual development theory of Jacques Lacan and Elaine Scarry’s philosophy of the body, pain, language and creativity, the exegesis examines existing approaches to metamorphosis and uses supplementary textual analysis of influential representations of metamorphosis from Ovid to Pygmalion, X-Men and Extreme Makeover to explore assumptions about the body, language, the self, gender in western culture. The limitations of the performance of representations of metamorphosis as a figure for the self’s survival of death are considered in the light of voice as metonym for self to propose an ethic which valorises life. The experience of sex and the construction of gender in representations of metamorphosis are considered in the light of Lacan’s theory of desire and Scarry’s theory of the body and language to propose an ethic of representing gender ironically. The motif of the faithless lover and the Pygmalion myth are considered in the light of the (m)other’s role in language to propose an ethic in which indeterminacy constitutes the condition for being aware of oneself among selves. Each of the three proposals is discussed in relation to the short fiction, memoir and poems produced in the course of this research to test their limits and possibilities as the foundation of an emerging ethic of writing.

Streszczenie:
4D printing is the process through which a 3D printed object or primitive is transformed into another structure under the influence of external energy input such as temperature, light or other extertal stimuli. The 4th dimension is the time in which the primitive changes its appearance. In most cases, the shape changes. We call this a self-assembly or self-transformation process. In the process of printing a primitive, capable of transforming themselves from one shape to another, we often encounter combinations of one or two thermoplastic materials that have different thermal and physico-mechanical properties. The printed primitive is transformed where the active element is contained. The active element is the basic building block of the self-transforming primitive. For this purpose, it is necessary to choose the appropriate combination of thermoplastic materials, to determine the length of the active element and the number of layers of which it is composed. For the printing of the active element two thermoplastic materials can be selected which differ from each other in their thermal transitions and physico-mechanical properties. The process of transformation under the influence of elevated temperature should be carried out in such a way that the printed primitive is heated above the temperature of the glass transition that the material used on the active elements has. This releases the residual stresses created during the printing process and causes the active material to shrink. In this way, a primitive can be transformed from a flat shape to a final 3D shape. This shape is then maintained by controlled cooling below the glass transition temperature of the active element. In this paper the first research results of the primitive transformation were presented. The appropriate combination of materials and the optimal temperature of the water as external stimuli were determined, and finally the primitives’ shape recovery. In the research we used the active element which consists of a single layer of flexible, elastic thermoplastic material (passive material) and three layers of thermoplastic materials with the properties of shape memory polymers (active material). For printing we used the multitool 3D printer ZMorph which is based on Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology.

Streszczenie:
Innovative technologies have an impact on the countries socio- economic development, the structure of labor market and educational services transformation. Rapid IT industry development constantly requires qualified programmers capable of professional self-improvement throughout life, the driving force of which is the individual motivation which activates the individual self-development process, optimizes thinking and develops special professional qualities, moral and ethical values. The main article purpose is to analyze the state of the form of motivational readiness for future programmer’s professional self-improvement, to identify problems of its formation in colleges and to determine the ways of its increase as one of the main factors of quality improvement. To achieve it, a complex of theoretical and empirical methods was used, with help of which a number of problems were revealed which slow down the process of improving the quality of future programmers professional training. To eliminate them, a system of phased motivation for future specialists professional self-improvement has been developed on the basis of general secondary education, which can be integrated into the teaching of both general education and professionally-oriented disciplines; ways of improving the quality of the educational process through the creation of a cloud of oriented environment, the introduction of innovative teaching technologies, special training of teachers in the system of professional development.

Streszczenie:
Research shows that youth who have positive connections with adults at their schools demonstrate higher levels of motivation, self-esteem, and prosocial behavior than their peers in less relationship-centered contexts. Relationship-centered schools also enable a range of positive student academic outcomes, including increased attendance, graduation rates, achievement on English language arts and math assessments, and college-going rates. This report focuses on one relationship-centered high school transformation effort—the Relationship Centered Schools (RCS) campaign, a youth-led effort supported by the community-based organization Californians for Justice (CFJ). Through interviews with CFJ organizers, district and school leaders, practitioners, and current and former youth organizers, this report highlights examples of uptake in two settings—the Long Beach Unified School District and Fresno’s McLane High School. The cases demonstrate how local schools and districts have furthered relationship-centered schooling, the conditions and factors that have enabled or hindered RCS work, and the emerging impacts of RCS efforts on practice and policy.

Streszczenie:
This technical note describes how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected Latin America and the Caribbean, and considers the implications for future population health, health spending, healthcare service reforms, and investments to prepare for future health emergencies. It provides a summary of the few existing empirical studies and then contributes original analysis using administrative data from hospitals and vital registration systems in five countries. It shows substantial declines in health and healthcare delivery during the first year of the pandemic, especially for preventive and elective care. Some countries were able to return healthcare to historical levels, while others were still below average in 2021. The study concludes with reflections on how the pandemic has altered health policy recommendations for the region, generating a greater sense of urgency to make progress on long-standing agendas such as eliminating fragmentation, integrating care, and pursuing digital transformation while reordering priorities toward investments in emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, resilience, and self-sufficiency. In other words, going beyond normal.

Streszczenie:
Fruit thinning is a common and necessary practice for commercial fruit production in many deciduous tree fruit species. Fruit thinning in apple may be accomplished with a variety of chemical thinning agents, but the use of these chemicals is a subject of environmental concern. It has been shown recently that RNase enzyme, secreted from the stigma and the style, inhibits pollen germination and pollen tube elongation. In this study we have been able to show that Aspergillus niger B-1 RNase can effectively inhibit peach and apple pollen germination, and tube elongation in-vitro, as well as thin fruit in peach and apple, and reduce the number of seeds in citrus. The objectives of the research were to detrmine the conditions for effective thinning of (USA and Israel), develop fermentation process for cost effective production of RNase from A. niger. (Israel), and clone apple S-RNase cDNA (USA). All the objectives of the research were addressed. We have determined the optimal fermentation conditions for cost effective production of the A. niger at a 20,000 liters scale. TheA. niger B1 RNase was isolated to homogeneity and its kinetic and biochemical properties including its N-terminal sequence were fully characterized. The field test results both in Israel and California have shown variability in effectiveness and more work is needed to define the RNase concentration necessary to completely inhibit pollen development. Plant transformation vectors expressing anti-sense apple S-RNase genes were constructed (USA) with an attempt to produce self compatible transgenic apple trees. Bovine S-Protein cDNA was cloned and successfully expressed in E. coli (Israel). Plant transformation vector expressing the S-Protein gene was constructed (USA) with an attempt to produce transgenic plants expressing S-protein in the style. Exogenous application of S-peptide to these plants will result in active RNase and consequently prevention of fertilization.

TITOVA, E. HISTORIOGRAPHIC REVIEW ON THE TOPIC OF THE STUDY OF MIGRATION PROCESSES IN THE RUSSIAN FAR EAST AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XXI CENTURY. Science and Innovation Center Publishing House, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.12731/2077-1770-2021-13-4-2-34-53.

Streszczenie:
The article provides an overview of scientific research on the study of migration processes in the Far Eastern regions. The problems of migration, the state mechanism for regulating migration issues, and the peculiarities of interethnic interactions are very topical topics not only at the regional, but also at the national level. In the Russian Federation, studies on these topics have appeared relatively recently. Due to the fact that at the end of the 20th century there was a surge in the ethnic self-awareness of the peoples of the country, together with the intensification of socio-economic transformation processes, there are sharp, often radical, changes in the field of interethnic interactions, in particular, the growth of armed interethnic conflicts, an increase in migration outflows or inflows. etc. Modern scientific research in the field of migration processes is practice-oriented, that is, they are aimed at the implementation of narrow applied problems, there is also an increase in the accumulation of an updated extensive theoretical and methodological base. In particular, studies, for example, concerning the topic of interethnic interactions, are directly related to the topic of ethnic tolerance, which has also become very popular and in demand in the last decade for specialists from various scientific fields - psychologists, ethnographers, lawyers, etc.

Streszczenie:
Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant Peoples, and local communities produce up to 70 percent of the world’s food with lower climate change and environmental impact than agribusinesses, but many remain under the poverty threshold. They are the de facto owners and managers of massive carbon stocks in forested and non–forested ecosystems, but markets fail to fairly reward this. This is all achieved with these communities having legal rights over only 20 percent of their land and receiving only 1.7 percent of global climate finance for self–determined investment and nature conservation. Clarifying their rights and establishing solid tenure security and capital to invest in exercising those rights are a must. The need for Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant Peoples, and local communities to acquire secure tenure over land and resources to achieve conservation and production goals is twofold. First, these groups need to establish a tenure safety network over their claimed lands and resources to prevent unintended consequences, like spillovers and leakages from other global responses to climate change, environmental rehabilitation, and food systems transformation. Second, they want secure tenure as part of a more enabling environment to fully unlock the potential of delivering their own solutions to current systems, threats, and opportunities.
