This book is a highly practical guide to efficiently address cases of youth with school attendance problems at different levels of severity and complexity. School attendance problems are a pervasive and difficult dilemma faced by many types of mental health professionals (e.g., psychologists, psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists), school officials (e.g., administrators, guidance counselors, school-based social workers, school psychologists), and others (e.g., pediatricians, probation officers). School attendance problems, even in mild forms, are a significant risk factor for social, behavioral, and academic problems in middle childhood and adolescence as well as psychiatric, economic, and occupational difficulties in adulthood. This book takes a “nuts and bolts” approach that provides very specific and detailed recommendations and guidelines for assessment and intervention across a short period of time (e.g., four weeks). The book focuses less on descriptions of overall programs for absenteeism and more on specific procedures for many different types of cases. Many mental health and school-based professionals cannot logistically implement large-scale programs or even detailed manualized treatment protocols for their clients and schools. Thus, this book is meant to be a very practical guide to address school absenteeism at a relatively fast pace, and within the constraints of most private practices and school settings, while relying on empirically supported techniques. The book also considers developmental levels, with some chapters more applicable to elementary school children and others more suited to middle and high school adolescents.

In this book, faculty from top-ranked industrial-organizational (I-O) master’s programs provide best practices and discuss important topics for the training of master’s-level I-O psychologists. The book begins with a definition of the field of I-O psychology; an explanation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by master’s-level I-O practitioners; and a description of I-O master’s professional practice areas. I-O graduate training is introduced, highlighting differences between master’s training and doctoral training. Advice is offered about applying to graduate school, including program selection, undergraduate preparation, and the application process. The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology’s Guidelines for Education and Training in Industrial-Organizational Psychology are reviewed, as are various methods for teaching the identified competencies. Guidance is offered on implementing important applied experiences such as course projects, practica, simulations, and internships. The pros and cons of a thesis requirement are outlined. Issues faced by faculty in I-O master’s programs, including strategies for balancing teaching, service, and research, are covered. The final chapter gives advice for developing and maintaining an on-campus I-O consulting entity. The best practices presented in this volume, offered by faculty with substantial expertise and experience in successful I-O master’s programs, should be of interest to faculty teaching in I-O master’s programs and other teaching intensive institutions; to I-O faculty and non-I-O psychology faculty advising undergraduates on career options in psychology, specifically as an I-O master’s practitioner; and to undergraduates evaluating potential I-O master’s programs.

This book that you have in hand was built from the master's research entitled "Environmental Education at school as a tool for the resignification of the identity of the place" concluded in the year 2019 in the Graduate Program in National Network for the Teaching of Environmental Sciences (PROFCIAMB), authored by Cliciane de Souza Meduna under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Helena Midori Kashiwagi. The research was carried out at the Escola Municipal do Campo Cipriano Librano Ramos, in Colônia Pereira, a rural area of the municipality of Paranaguá, Paraná coast. This memory game was created from photos recorded by students of basic education participating in the research. "Rediscovering the Pereira Colony" is composed of images that have meaning and are part of the historical context of the community. We understand that recognizing oneself within one's physical space goes beyond working on geography, sense of location, map interpretation, data collection and everything else that is involved in this process. It is to plant the seed that "it is possible to be "someone" in life even staying in the field" (original title of my Project to join PROFCIAMB), is to understand that many struggles are to come, that we will have many challenges to overcome, difficulties to be overcome, among them our location, but that it will not be an obstacle to continue studying and be who we want.
