Construite entre les 12e et 16e siècles, l'église gothique remplaçait deux édifices préromans (paroissial et prieural) juxtaposés. Artificiellement unifiée (par l'abattement d'un mur), cette construction était surprenante. Elle possédait six irréguliers vaisseaux parallèles, de hauteurs différentes, séparés longitudinalement, en leur milieu, par quatre marches ; son clocher était décentré. Mais cette vaste et sombre église de paroisse riche tournait le dos à la ville. Dégradé durant la Révolution, l'édifice fut presque entièrement reconstruit au siècle dernier avec les matériaux anciens, intégrant des morceaux d'architecture gothique (remplages, colonnes, voûte d'ogives. . . ). Mieux adaptée aux besoins actuels, l'église a été désorientée, largement ouverte sur Bazouges ; un clocher néo-gothique surplombe sa façade principale
Before the gothic church - built between the 12th and the 16th centuries - was two pre-Romans buildings situated side by side. Artificially reunified, this construction was astonishing. It structure was composed of six irregulars parallels parts, which had different heights, and four longitudinal steps in the middle; the belfry wasn't in the center. This church was spacious and dark. It was damaged during the revolution and the edifice was built again - almost completely - during the 19th century. Then, it was been turned to the west side, broadly open on the city; the principal front is over hanged by a neogothic belfry. Directement ou indirectement, les philosophes rencontrent la pensée de Paul. Néanmoins, ils ne la connaissent généralement qu'à travers une correspondance mise à leur disposition sinon par des théologiens, tout au moins par des critiques engagés. Il s'agit de rechercher la pensée de Paul dans le sens littéral de sa correspondance, en ne considérant que les seules lettres reconnues authentiques par la critique non dogmatique (lettre aux Galates, correspondance avec les Corinthiens, lettre aux Romains et lettre aux Philippiens) et en relevant les quelques passages contradictoires à la pensée de l'apôtre, que nous interprétons comme des interpolations (Rm. XIII, 1-7,1 Co. XI, 2-16 ; XIV, 33b-34 ; Ga. II, 7-8). La mise en parallèle des écrits esséniens ou des textes marqués par cette tradition (parmi lesquels l'évangile de Matthieu), permet de donner un nouvel éclairage sur le sens des concepts tels que : la grçace, la foi, l'espérance, l'amour, le déterminisme, l'universalisme. L'originalité de Paul consiste à concevoir et à proclamer la fin de la loi positive. La relation d'amour succède à la relation légale entre les hommes, autant qu'entre Dieu et les hommes. Paul peut être perçu comme un "anarchiste éclairé". Néanmoins, toute espérance terrestre demeure vaine. Le dualisme paulinien est radical : la création asservie par les lois de l'incarnation est appelée à disparaître avec le monde de la matière au profit d'une création nouvelle de qualité spirituelle. D'un point de vue conceptuel, deux dieux sont en présence : le Dieu extérieur et le Dieu intérieur. Ils ne peuvent se confondre dès lors que leurs paroles ne profèrent pas la meme loi.

O estudo visa mostrar a natureza da metáfora, e em particular seu valor especulativo e fundamento ontológico (ou ontologia implícita) para Santo Tomás de Aquino e Paul Ricoeur, realizando uma comparação entre as duas concepções. Em um primeiro momento, é apresentada a concepção tomista da metáfora, através do recurso a quatro intérpretes do Aquinate (Penido, McInerny, Cruz e Duffy). Em um segundo momento é apresentada a concepção de Paul Ricoeur, especialmente em A metáfora viva. Na parte final do trabalho, são comparadas a incorporação da imagem no discurso especulativo (valor especulativo da metáfora) e a relação metáfora-ontologia (fundamento ontológico da metáfora) nos dois autores.
The study aims at showing the nature of metaphor, particularly its speculative value and its ontological foundation (or implicit ontology), for Saint Thomas Aquinas and Paul Ricoeur, making a comparison between both conceptions. In a first moment, Aquinas` conception of metaphor is presented, recurring to four interpreters (Penido, McInerny, Cruz and Duffy). In a second moment, Ricoeur`s conception of metaphor is displayed, especially as presented in The living metaphor. In the final part of the work, the incorporation of image in speculative discourse (speculative value of metaphor) and the relation metaphor-ontology (ontological foundation of metaphor) in both authors are compared.

While Pauline studies today are grappling with the question of the core of Paul's thought, the investigation of the apostle's social world is also gaining interest among scholars. The study of Paul's argumentation offers a fundamental contribution to both endeavours. Enthymemes, defined by the rhetorical tradition as the basic building blocks of deductive argumentation, constitute an important part of Paul's argumentation which until now has been relatively unexploited. Study of the manner in which Paul constructs enthymemes gives us insight into his thought world. The premisses that he uses as argumentative proofs can be viewed as a reflection of the common "social knowledge" of the Pauline milieu.
The object of this inquiry is to study Paul's use of enthymemes as a rhetorical and argumentative tool and to evaluate what this reveals about his thought, his teaching, and his social world. The study begins with a discussion of the problem of enthymeme definition, followed by a clarification of criteria for identifying enthymemes in texts. A method of analysis is proposed. The entire corpus of Paul's seven undisputed letters is then "combed" for enthymemes, one epistle at a time. Enthymemes are identified and analysed, and their argumentative premisses are catalogued thematically. This exercise permits a serious consideration of Paul's modes of argumentation, rhetorical aims and social world in the context of each epistle. Results from different epistles are compared as a means to consider, in general, Paul's rhetorical habits.
This thesis argues that enthymeme analysis is a necessary first step in Pauline exegesis. It is also argued that more attention needs to be given to enthymeme study in the research into Paul's social world. The question of how enthymeme study can inform the study of Paul's theology and core convictions is also discussed.

Ce travail (3 vol. , 1200p. ) propose l'édition critique (vol. 2, 517 p. ) du Mystère de saint-Pierre et saint-Paul, conservé dans deux imprimés sortis des presses parisiennes de la maison de la Veuve Trepperel et de Jean Janot (entre 1512-1519). Ce Mystère, qui comporte 16724 vers, pour la quasi–totalité octosyllabes, et dont l'auteur nous est inconnu, fut probablement composé, ou remanié à partir d'un noyau plus ancien, vers ancien, vers 1470, par un auteur normand ou normanno-picard. La trame narrative en suit assez fidèlement celle des Actes des apôtres et de la Légende dorée, avec néanmoins des variations significatives que l'étude littéraire s'efforce d'expliquer par le contexte religieux particulier de la seconde moitié du 15e s. This work (3 vol. , 1200p. ) gives the critical edition (vol. 2, 517 p. ) of Mystery of saint-Peter et saint-Paul, preserved by two printed books published in Paris by the Veuve Trepperel and Jean Janot House (between 1512-1519). This long Mystery, which contains 16724 lines, almost all octosyllabes, and whose author is unknown, was problaly written, or refact from a previous center, about 1470, by an author from Normandy or/and Picardy. The narrative follows closely the stories and tales of biblical Acts of Apostles end of Golden Legend, nevertheless with relevant variations that literary study tries to explain on the base of the peculiar religious context in the second middle of the15th century. A large linguistic, literary and dramaturgic commentary comes with the edition, by the form of an introduction (vol. 1, 428 p. ), notes, glossary and indices (vol. 3, 253 p. )

L'experience quotidienne du pieton dans la ville est abordee du point de vue de l'ethnologie "du dedans et du dehors". Cette problematique est d'abord replacee dans le cadre theorique des travaux recents sur l'ethnologie de la ville, puis explicitee du point de vue des methodes de l'ethnologie du present. Les themes principaux sont ceux de la distanciation du regard de l'ethnologue, de la quotidiennete, de la ritualisation du quotidien et de l'art de vivre urbain. On presente ensuite une etude ethnologique et anthropologique du pieton dans la ville qui aborde entre autres les questions suivantes : les modes d'action du pieton, le pieton dans le contexte social, l'environnement du pieton, la perception de la rue par le pieton, les interactions entre pietons, l'appropriation de l'espace, les facons de traverser la me et le choix d'un itineraire. On rappelle a cet egard les resultats obtenus par les chercheurs des sciences du comportement, en particulier dans le domaine emergent de l'environnement humain. L'experience du pieton est decrite dans le cadre concret de divers terrains d'etude situes dans paris: dans un premier temps, on rapporte des observations detaillees des pietons recueillies dans un secteur delimite du quartier st paul (rue saint antoine) ainsi que dans le marais. Ces observations sont replacees dans le cadre historique et culturel de la vie urbaine a paris. Dans un second temps, le theme plus general des promeneurs a paris est aborde sur la base des observations recoltes dans differents lieux et concernant differents modes de promenade: les jardins publics, les quais de la seine, les ponts, les rues et les squares, les manifestations de rue et le marche. Un journal ethnologique restitue l'experience vecue au jour le jour par l'auteur dans le cadre de ses deplacements dans paris, intervenant a la fois comme acteur et comme temoin.

The thrust of this thesis is encapsulated in the title – Paul, Jerusalem and the Judaisers: The Galatian Crisis in Its Broader Historical Context – which reflects the author’s insistence that reconstructing all the events surrounding the crisis that impelled Paul to compose his letter to the Galatians is essential to understanding this letter. The position taken in this study is that the Galatian crisis was initiated by a group of Judaising opponents acting under the direct authority of the Jerusalem church. The origins of this controversy can be traced back to the early dispute between the Hellenists and the Hebrews described in the Acts of the Apostles, which led to the expulsion of the Hellenists from Jerusalem and the establishment of the community in Antioch. Paul’s opponents apparently cited Jerusalem as the source of and the warrant for their Law-observant gospel. In Galatians, Paul alludes to events involving Judaising opponents that transpired in Jerusalem and Antioch prior to the outbreak of the crisis at Galatia. Thus, the immediate background of the crisis is found in the Jerusalem Council (Gal 2:1-10; Acts 15:1-35) and the Incident at Antioch (Gal 2:11-14). Turning to the conflict in Galatia itself this thesis attempts to explore the links between these earlier events and the Galatian crisis. The primary avenue for this examination will be via a consideration of Paul’s argument in Galatians. By the careful use of the mirror-reading technique, this thesis will endeavour to reconstruct the message and the origins of Paul’s opponents. The thesis concludes with a brief examination of Paul’s later conflicts with Judaising opponents at Corinth and Philippi, as well as the autobiographical material in Romans, all of which will provide an insight into the eventual outcome of the crisis in Galatia

Ho kairos sunestalmenos estin, « le temps est écourté », écrit saint Paul à la communauté de Corinthe. La proclamation chrétienne plonge en effet le croyant dans une temporalité abrégée, pressée, contractée, comprise entre la Résurrection et la Parousie. La fin des temps est donc à la fois existentiellement imminente (« le Jour est tout proche ») et chronologiquement indéterminée (« le Jour du Seigneur vient comme un voleur dans la nuit »). Frappée par la surrection brutale d'une telle de crise dans la fluence chronologique, l'existence ne peut qu'en être sidérée. Cependant, malgré la pénurie d'avenir, le temps n'en continue pas moins d'affluer, et de l'angoisse (thlipsis) suscitée doit rejaillir une retemporalisation du temps lui-même. Explorer la temporalité à partir de l'imminence et de l'indétermination de la fin, expliciter le phénomène du temps à partir l'inquiétude eschatologique : telle est la tâche principale de ce travail. Kairos est le nom d'une telle tension existentielle chez Paul, dont les épîtres fournissent un riche matériau philosophique. Martin Heidegger a proposé en 1920 une approche phénoménologique du temps à partir de la situation d'urgence décrite dans l'épistolaire paulinien (Phénoménologie de la vie religieuse). Il était nécessaire d'en développer les prémices. Nous montrons d'abord, par une approche historique, que la conception paulinienne du kairos n'est réductible ni à l'épistémè grecque ni au « cosmos culturel » juif. Nous montrons également, par une herméneutique existentielle, que la tension du kairos (où se mêlent présence et attente) se résout dialectiquement dans une forme inédite de liberté. Nous détaillons enfin, puisqu'un certain savoir est toujours afférant à une situation temporelle critique, les nouveautés anthropologiques (renouvellement de la compréhension de l'homme), sociales (renouvellement de la signification de la communauté) et politiques (renouvellement du rapport au politique) dont l'expérience chrétienne primitive est féconde
Ho kairos sunestalmenos estin, "time is shortened", wrote saint Paul to the community of Corinth. The christian proclamation actually takes the believer into an abriged, squeezed, condensed temporality bound by the Resurrection and the Parousia. The end of time is therefore both existentially imminent ("the Day is near") and chronologically undefined ("the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night"). Struck by the sudden uplifting of such a crisis in the chronological flow, the existence is necessarily stunned. However, despite the lack of future, time is still flowing and generates anxiety (thlipsis) from which must spring out a temporal delimitation of time itself. The exploration of temporality from the imminence and the indeterminacy of the end and the explication of the time phenomenon using the eschatological anxiety are the objects of this work. For Paul, whose epistles constitute a rich philosophical material, that existential tension is referred to as Kairos. Martin Heidegger, in 1920, proposed a phenomenological approach of time based on the situation of urgency described in the Pauline epistolary (Phenomenology of Religious Life). It was necessary to develop those first signs. First, by means of an historical approach, we point out that the pauline conception of Kairos can neither be reduced to the Greek espitémè nor to the Jewish "cultural cosmos". Using existential hermeneutics, we also show that the tension of the kairos (where presence and wait mingle) is dialectically resolved by an unprecedented freedom. Finally, since a certain knowledge is always pertaining to a critical temporal situation, we detail the anthropological (understanding of man renewed), social (significance of the community renewed) and political (relation to politics renewed) innovations of which the primitive christian experience is full of

La fouille de la necropole du valladas a saint-paul-trois-chateaux (augusta tricastinorum) a fourni en ensemble de 230 sepultures (incinerations et inhumations) datees entre 20 et 200 ap. J. -c. , ainsi que les fondations d'un mausolee circulaire. L'occupation du site atteint son apogee a la fin di 1er s. Ap. J. -c. Des groupes de sepultures, parfois delimites par des enclos maconnes ou par des fosses, permettent de restituer des concessions funeraires qui s'inscrivent dans la trame fonciere du cadastre b d'orange. L'evolution des rites funeraires est marquee par l'apparition au cours du 2eme s. De l'inhumation des adultes; par le developpement de l'incineration primaire a partir du milieu du premier siecle, parallelement a la disparation progressive du rite traditionnel, l'incineration secondaire avec urne. Le monde de sepulture le plus frequent est l'incineration secondaire sans urne, beaucoup plus simple et plus pauvre que les autres. Il existe en effet une relation entre la quantite d'offrandes et la complexite de l'organisation de la tombe. Cette organisation obeit a des regles precises que l'on peut notamment observer dans la disposition du mobilier selon sa nature (vaisselle, balsamaires, lampes, offrandes alimentaires, objets personnels. . . ). Excavations at the cemetery of the valladas at saint-paul-trois-chateaux (drome, france) yielded a group of 230 graves (incinerations and inhumations) dating back from between 20 a. D. And 200 a. D. , together with the foundations of a circular mausoleum. The site was most densely occupied at the end of the ist century a. D. Clusters of graves sometimes are enclosed within masonry walls or mere ditches, and so, it is possible to reconstruct the limits of funeral plots, themselves defined according to the pattern of the "cadastre b" of orange. The evolution of funeral rites brought about the inhumation of adult persons during the 2nd century; an extension of primary incinerations, from the middle of the ist century on; and, correlatively, the gradual disappearence of the traditional rite which was a secondary incineration with an urn. The most usual burial technique is secondary incineration without any urn, much simpler and poorer. To understand infant-feeding patterns among Hmong women in St. Paul, MN, this qualitative study used a convenience sample of 21 Hmong mothers who had at least 1 child under the age of 2. Drawing on interviews and questionnaires, this researcher explored (a) how participants described their traditional and American cultural traditions, beliefs, and values, (b) their infant-feeding practices, and (c) how their infant-feeding practices are shaped by adaptations to traditional and American cultures. In this sample, those women who had recently immigrated to the United States were more likely to exclusively use formula. Interviews suggest that American norms of breastfeeding in public, hectic lifestyles in a new country, and lack of cultural knowledge about pumping and storing breast milk influenced 1st- and 1.5-generation participants to exclusively use formula. For 2nd-generation participants, the awkwardness of breastfeeding in public was also cited as an important influence on their decision to use formula. However, quite different from 1st- and 1.5-generation women, 2nd-generation women were more educated and more likely to be employed in less segregated and professional occupations, which exposed them to mothers of different backgrounds who were breastfeeding. This exposure to breastfeeding mothers appeared to influence breastfeeding initiation among 2nd-generation Hmong. This study also found that negative social support from participants' mothers and mothers-in-law, and positive social support from sisters and sisters-in-law had a strong impact on their infant-feeding decisions. Unlike previous research among Hispanic immigrants, this study revealed that 2nd-generation Hmong immigrants were slightly more likely to include some form of breastfeeding in their infant-feeding method. This study also revealed the importance of social support and the role of the ethnic community in infant-feeding choices. More research is needed, however, to further clarify the relationship between acculturation and social support on breastfeeding initiation and duration among various immigrant populations.

This thesis investigates the relationship between the portraits of new creation in the Hauptbriefe (specifically, in 2 Corinthians and Galatians) and Ephesians. The thesis partly responds to those scholars who argue for a limited understanding (whether cosmological, anthropological, or ecclesiological) of the phrase kainh; ktivsiV in 2 Cor 5.17 and Gal 6.15. This thesis also partly responds to the lack of attention devoted to the new creation theme in Ephesians by investigating the depiction of new creation in Eph 1–2. Chapters two and three of this thesis investigate the background of new creation in the Pauline tradition through an analysis of various texts in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, 1 Enoch, and Jubilees. These chapters demonstrate that new creation and restoration were frequently associated with anthropological and cosmological renewal, the salvation of the Gentiles, and an Urzeit-Endzeit typology. The strong correlation between Isaiah’s new exodus and ANE temple-building traditions is a particularly significant contribution of the inquiry of Isaiah. Chapters four and five of this thesis primarily analyze the depictions of new creation in Gal 6.11–16; 2 Cor 5.11–21; and Eph 1–2. A salient point of this analysis is the suggestion that Eph 1.20–2.22 may be understood as an extended discussion of new creation modeled after Isaiah’s portrait of the new exodus as an act of temple-building. This examination demonstrates that the descriptions of new creation in all three of these texts are strongly linked with anthropological, eschatological, and ecclesiological notions, as well as an Urzeit-Endzeit typology. This thesis also points to a number of other correspondences between the portraits of new creation in the Hauptbriefe and that of Ephesians.

This thesis focuses on the investigation of reef communities of the Saint Peter and Saint Paul´s Archipelago (SPSPA) across an euphotic/mesophotic depth gradient. Sampling was performed on shallow and mesophotic areas (0 to 90 m depth) using SCUBA and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The present work is composed of four chapters: Chapter 1 deals with the quantitative assessment of reef fish communities, which were divided in three distinct communities associated with different depth strata. Clear shifts in habitat use and in size-frequency distributions were recorded for some species. Abundance of black-corals and depth were the most important factors affecting the structure of fish communities, with a clear association of fish with branching black-corals in the mesophotic zone. Chapter 2 presents the first detailed qualitative assessment of benthic communities of the SPSPA. The influence of biotic and abiotic variables shaping the structure of the benthic communities was evaluated. A total of 77 benthic taxa belonging to six major functional groups were recorded. Macroalgae was the richest group (41 infrageneric taxa), with 17 new records for the SPSPA. Turf algae were the most abundant group on both shallow and mesophotic reefs. Two distinct communities were detected: a shallow one composed primarily by the zoanthid Palythoa caribaeorum (Duchassaing and Michelotti, 1861), the fleshy alga Caulerpa racemosa (Forsskål) J. Agardh, crustose coralline algae (CCA) and Bryopsis spp., and another deeper community dominated by CCA, bryozoans and scleractinian corals. Abiotic variables were the most important predictors of benthic community structure. Chapter 3 brings information on abundance, distribution size and associated fauna (epibionts) of black-corals. Although two species of black-corals, Tanacetipathes hirta (Gray, 1857) and T. thamnea (Warner, 1981), are known to occur in the SPSPA, they are undistinguishable underwater. Epibiosis, mainly by zoanthids and entanglement by fishing monofilament were important factors negatively affecting the health of black-coral colonies. Black-corals were intensively used as refuge by reef fish, especially by the endemic oblique butterflyfish Prognathodes obliquus (Chaetodontidae). A single black-coral colony repeatedly visited and monitored for ten years showed a decrease in vitality since the first observation, mainly related to fouling by algal detritus and entanglement by fishing monofilaments. Chapter 4 discusses the ecology (abundance, distribution and habitat preferences) of the fireworm Hermodice carunculata, a major predator on mesophotic zone of SPSPA. A total of 278 individuals of bearded fireworm were observed, with significant difference in abundance between euphotic and mesophotic zones. A direct association of H. carunculata with black-corals (Tanacetipathes spp.), the scleractinian Madracis decactis and depth was found. A final session with concluding remarks wraps up information on the ecology of Mesophotic Reef Ecosystems highlighting their possible importance for the stability and persistence of reef fish and benthic communities of the SPSPA, which are under threat of overfishing and climate change, thus requiring urgent protective measures.
O tema central desta tese é estudar a ecologia de comunidades recifais ao longo do gradiente de profundidade no Arquipélago São Pedro e São Paulo (ASPSP), com ênfase nos Ecossistemas Recifais Mesofóticos (ERMs). As amostragens foram realizadas da superfície até a zona mesofótica (0 a 90 m de profundidade), utilizando SCUBA e Veículos Submersíveis de Operação Remota (VSORs). Esta tese é composta por quatro capítulos. No Capítulo 1 foi realizado uma avaliação quantitativa das comunidades de peixes, as quais formaram três comunidades distintas associadas aos diferentes estratos de profundidade e ao uso de diferentes hábitats de acordo com mudanças ontogenéticas (tamanho do corpo). Corais-negros e profundidade foram os fatores mais importantes na estruturação das comunidades de peixes, com uso intenso dos corais-negros por peixes na zona mesofótica. O Capítulo 2 apresenta a primeira avaliação qualitativa das comunidades bentônicas do ASPSP, além de uma avaliação da influência de variáveis bióticas e abióticas na estruturação das comunidades. Foram registrados 77 táxons bentônicos pertencentes a seis grupos. Macroalgas foi o grupo mais rico (41 táxons), com 17 novos registros para o ASPSP. Algas formadoras de tufos (turf) constituíram o grupo mais abundante em ambos os ambientes, eufótico e mesofótico. Foram observadas duas comunidades distintas: uma superficial composta principalmente pelo zoantídeo Palythoa caribaeorum, a pela alga Caulerpa racemosa carnuda, algas calcárias incrustantes (CCA) e Bryopsis spp, e outra mais profunda dominada por CCA, briozoários e corais escleractíneos. As variáveis abióticas, particularmente profundidade e luz, foram mais importantes na estrutura da comunidade bentônica. O Capítulo 3 traz informações sobre a abundância, distribuição, tamanho e vitalidade de corais-negros. Duas espécies de corais-negros, Tanacetipathes hirta (Gray, 1857) e T. thamnea (Warner, 1981), foram identificadas. Epibiose por zoantídeos e estrangulamento por monofilamentos afetaram negativamente as colônias de coral negro, uma delas monitorada durante dez anos. Esta última apresentou uma diminuição da vitalidade devido principalmente à presença de algas e estrangulamento por monofilamento. Corais-negros formam um grupo-chave na zona mesofótica do ASPSP, sendo intensamente utilizados como hábitat por diversos peixes recifais, principalmente espécies endêmicas (e.g., o peixe-borboleta Prognathodes obliquus). O Capítulo 4 aborda a ecologia do principal predador de invertebrados bentônicos na zona mesofótica do ASPSP, o verme-de-fogo Hermodice carunculata, descrevendo sua abundância e distribuição batimétrica e discutindo seu potencial em impactar as comunidades bentônicas, especialmente os corais escleractínios e os corais-negros na zona mesofótica do ASPSP. Observou-se um total de 278 indivíduos, com diferença significativa na abundância entre as zonas eufótica e mesofótica. A thorough architectural study of the cathedrals of saint-paul-troischateaux and arles reveals the complex evolution of their construction and a direct relationship that linked the former to the latter edifice. Thus, the combined relative chronology of both chruches provides important clues to the evolution of provencal romanesque architecture in general. The outstanding construction of saint-trophime influenced several other churches more or less directly related by their structure, construction and decoration; thus, saint-trophime, saint-paul and the related aisled nave churches, analyzed in a series of monographic studies (cruas abbey church, la garde-adhemar, cathedrals of orange and vaison-la-romaine, saint-honorat-des-aliscamps and saint-blaise in arles, saint-paul-de-mausole, the major of marseille and notre-dame-du-chateau at saint-etienne-du-gres), offer a solid base for further general investigations, leading to a more thorough understanding of the development of romanesque church building in provence from the middle of the eleventh to the first half of the thirteenth century

This research was conducted to explore the concept of servant leadership in Catholic schools in Thailand. It attempts to examine Greenleaf's theory of servant leadership and whether is it appropriate in a Catholic educational institution within the Thai culture. The research focused on eight schools of Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres, a Catholic missionary organisation that runs private schools. Four principals were selected by a nomination process and are called 'community designated servant leaders' (CDSLs). Another four principals were selected for comparison using match pair criteria, and are called 'other leaders' (OLs). Data were collected by shadowing each principal for a day, through semi-structured interviews with eight principals and 80 teachers in the eight schools involved in the study, and also through the distribution of questionnaires. A total of 1,150 questionnaires were distributed and 944 (82%) were returned. This study contributes to a greater understanding of the daily activities of the principals, the role of Thai religious principals and the service provided by them. A comparative analysis found both similarities and differences between the two groups of principals (CDSLs and OLs). The results from the questionnaires and interviews confirm that the use of servant leadership accounts for some of the differences between schools (e.g., principals who fully demonstrate servant leadership can motivate teachers better than those who use other leadership approaches). However, the servant leadership as practised by the principals in this research was found to be different from Greenleaf's original theory of servant leadership. This could be due mainly to the Thai culture and Catholic religion. All eight principals identified themselves as servant leaders. They all agreed that service is the most important factor for leading the schools. In this study, a new conception of Catholic servant leadership is proposed by focusing more explicitly on Jesus' teaching. A new formula and extended characteristics have been developed, since the research identified a unique combination of characteristics of both Thai culture and Catholic religion, which are: humility, authoritarianism with benevolence, heart, and Catholic values which are mercy and justice.

Les vitraux légendaires du haut-choeur de la cathédrale de Troyes (XIIIe siècle) occupent les fenêtres supérieures ainsi que celles du triforium. Si ceux des ouvertures sommitales ont peu souffert, ceux du niveau médian ont été très perturbés au cours du XVIIIe siècle, puis restaurés au XIXe siècle. L'ensemble glorifie la cathédrale de Troyes et, par la même, le diocèse, à travers l'évocation des saints et des grands évêques troyens. L'emplacement des oeuvres répond à des besoins liturgiques et le choix de certains sujets s'explique par la volonté de pallier le manque de façade occidentale, réalisée au XVIe siècle. Ces oeuvres sont le fruit de deux ateliers. Le premier travaille déjà sur les verrières les plus occidentales avant l'ouragan de 1228 ayant entraîné l'effondrement du choeur primitif. Le second atelier intervient autour de 1235. Le triforium, non vitré avant 1228, est décoré par les deux groupes d'artistes qui travaillent concurremment à ce projet. Les derniers vitraux sont posés vers 1240.

By the 20th century the Confessions had become a “classic” of western civilization, yet it seems to elude any easy explanation and categorization. While scholars of Late Antiquity puzzled over the nature, structure, and meaning of the work, a parallel reception was occurring by some of the most original thinkers across both traditions of Contemporary philosophy, including Ludwig Wittgenstein, Martin Heidegger, Hannah Arendt, Hans Jonas, Karl Jaspers, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Paul Ricoeur, Jean-Francois Lyotard, Jacques Derrida, Jean-Luc Marion, Jean Louis Chrétien and Stanley Cavell. This study will focus on four of these thinkers, Wittgenstein, Gadamer, Ricoeur and Marion, and the ways that the Confessions has influenced their attempts to address fundamental questions on subjects ranging from time and memory to history and hermeneutics, evil and the will, the self and personal identity, language and narrative, conversion, skepticism and materialism, God and onto- theology, and ultimately the very practice of philosophy itself, its autobiographical and especially its confessional character. In turn, this study also asks whether the engagements of these highly original contemporary philosophers can uncover new dimensions of this highly original work that has been read and interpreted throughout a centuries-long history of reception. The hermeneutic wager is that the past illumines the present philosophical terrain, but also that present insights allow us to read a classic text of the past with new understanding. This study will benefit from the interconnected nature of the problems that these writers confront, in their “family resemblance” of shared affinities and marked differences. Chapter One, “Scholarly Engagements: A Problematic Classic,” introduces some of the key interpretive problems which arose in the course of a century of scholarly engagements, including occasion, veracity, composition, and sources of Saint Augustine’s Confessions. Chapter Two “The Early Wittgenstein: Tractatus, Testimony and Confession” discusses the confessional philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, and the deep affinities he shared with Saint Augustine in his life and his first major work, the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1922), despite its reception and use as a foundational for Logical Empiricism and its spirited offspring. Chapter Three: “The Later Wittgenstein: Philosophical Investigations as Philosophical Confession” discusses the influence of Saint Augustine on Wittgenstein’s second major work, the Philosophical Investigations (1953), which uses a quotation from the Confessions as a point of departure for his own philosophical confession of errors and temptations. Chapter Four “Saint Augustine and Gadamer: Hermeneutic Anticipations and Affinities” discusses the hermeneutical insights of Saint Augustine, through the ways he encountered or struggled with texts in the Confessions, as well as through his idea of the “inner word” which would be for Gadamer the foundation of a philosophical hermeneutics. Chapter Five, “Ricoeur: Sin, Time, Memory, and Narrative” discusses Ricoeur’s engagement with Saint Augustine on the question of evil as well as his appropriation of the Augustinian aporia of time from the Confessions as pivotal for his narrative turn. Chapter Six, “Jean-Luc Marion’s Confessions” lays out Marion’s phenomenological unfolding of the Confessions beyond and before metaphysics, offering his reading of six dimensions of the inaccessibility of the self explored by Saint Augustine in the Confessions. This study will conclude by highlighting the themes that have suggested themselves across the many readings of this classic text

Cette pericope est traditionnellement consideree comme la section centrale de la premiere epitre de l'apotre paul. Elle a donne lieu a d'innombrables tentatives d'explications. L'exegese traditionnelle, protestante et catholique, de type supranaturaliste, litteral et dogmatique, y decouvrit un enseignement schatologique essentiel de paul sur la parousie du christ a la fin des temps. L'avenement de la methode historico-critique remplaca ce type d'interpretation par une recherche libre de la signification de ce texte, fondee sur l'explication philologique, grammatical et historique. Cette mutation profonde fut renforcee par la croissance du rationalisme empirique, qui rejeta le supranaturalisme, et par consequent la croyance en un retour du christ. Aussi n'est-il pas surprenant, qu'une variete d'approches nouvelles (critique litteraire, theories evolutionnistes, explications psychologiques, etc. ) proposees par les partisans de l'exegese liberale remit en cause l'ensemble de la pericope. L'interpretation contemporaine reflete ces positions hermeneutiques divergentes: l'attente parousiaque de 1th 4,13ss est soit maintenue, soit reinterpretee dans un sens intemporel ou existentiel, soit eliminee a l'aide de la critique litteraire ou redactionniste. Les exegetes se sont aussi interesses au "sitz-im-leben", a la place de 1 th 4,13ss dans l'eschatologie paulinienne (phase primitive ?), aux liens avec l'apocalyptique juive, aux traditions employees par paul et a la determination de la "parole du seigneur" au v. 15. C'est l'hermeneutique, en particulier la signification de l'eschatologie apocalyptique, qui divise le plus les interpretes de ce texte
This pericope is traditionally considered as the central section of this first pauline epistle. Traditional protestant and catholic interpretation, of a supernatural, dogmatic and litteral nature, discovers in this text an essential eschatological teaching of paul on the second coming of christ in the end-time. The rise of the historicalcritical method replaced this approach by a free investigation of its meaning founded upon philological, grammatical and historical study. This major transformation was reinforced by a growing rational empiricism, which rejected supernatural events such as the return of christ. It is no surprise that a variety of interpratative approaches (literary criticism, evolutionary theory, psychological explanations, etc. ) proposed by liberal exegesis called into question the meaning of the pericope. Contemporary exegesis reflects these different hermeneutical approaches: some interpreters maintain the expectation of christ's return, others reinterpret it timelessly or existentially, others still reject it entirely. Exegetes have shown special interest in the "sitzim -leben" of 1 th 4, 13ss, its place in pauline eschatology (primitive stage?), its relationship to jewish apocalyptic, paul's use of early traditions and the definition of the "word of the lord" in v. 15. But it is the hermeneutics of the text, particularly the meaning of apocalyptic eschatology, which divides mostly the interpreters

Paul et Virginie, longtemps décrié, fait, depuis 1953, l'objet d'une tentative de réhabilitation. A cet effet, plusieurs lectures ont vu le jour, proposant des éclairages non négligeables. Cependant, à notre sens, aucune ne parvient à octroyer à ce roman sa cohérence globale, à résoudre ses dissonances. Et si la clé du texte résidait ailleurs que dans sa littéralité, c'est-à-dire dans sa structure sous-jacente, dans son symbolisme? Le structuralisme logique et le symbolisme biblique, nous ont permis d'effectuer un tel examen. Sans présomption aucune, nous pouvons désormais affirmer que Bernardin de Saint-Pierre y avait bel et bien place un fil allégorique de l'histoire de l'humanité depuis le paradis édénique initial jusqu'au paradis eschatologique avec, dans l'ordre entre les deux, l'intrusion du péché, ses conséquences désastreuses sur l'humanité, l'apprentissage du savoir et de la culture au fil des siècles, les rachats possibles culminant dans la rédemption ou christ, dont Virginie remplit les attributions dans le roman, sauve tous ceux qui adhèrent à ses principes de vertu; tout ceci, afin d'inciter ses concitoyens à suivre ce fil, cette voie du salut, à se saisir de cette belle pierre brillant d'espérances nouvelle sertie dans sa gangue d'une histoire d'amour visant à toucher les esprits. Ce fil-là rend à Paul et Virginie sa cohérence
Paul and Virginia, after having been disparaged for quite a while, is, since 1953, being reinstated. In fact, since then, several different readings of the novel have come out, bringing to light some important aspects of it. However, none of them, in our opinion, has succeeded in bestowing some overall consistency on this novel or in sorting out any of its discrepancies. What if the key to this text was to be sought elsewhere than in its literality, that is to say in its underlying structure, its symbolism? Logical structuralism and biblical symbolism have made such an analysis possible. Thus, we may legitimately assert that Bernardin de Saint-Pierre definitely weaved in his text the allegorical thread of the story of mankind, from the edenic paradise to the eschatological paradise with, in good order between the two, the intrusion of sin, its disastrous consequences on mankind, the apprenticeship of culture and knowledge throughout centuries, the different possibilities for one to be redeement culminating into the redemption of Christ, whose role is being played by Virginia in the novel, granting salvation to all those who adhere to his principles of virtue; all this in order to prompt his fellow citizens into following that thread, that path to salvation, into seizing that dazzling magnificent stone, owing to the hopes it offers, mounted in its gangue of a love story aiming at hitting the senses. Such a thread restores its consistency to Paul and Virginia

L'accès des femmes aux activités physiques et sportives a été à l'avant-garde de ces évolutions. Dans la micro-région Ouest, l'occupation des temps de loisirs bouleverse la société et l'espace de vie des femmes. Les loisirs sportifs constituent les nouvelles formes d'expression et d'organisation spatio-temporelle des femmes de la micro-région Ouest. Forme, bien-être, plaisir sont les principales motivations de la pratique sportive. Sur ce territoire particulièrement voué aux loisirs et au tourisme, les conditions et les réalisations spatiales se différencient suivant les loisirs sportifs investis par les femmes. Ces loisirs deviennent alors un enjeu géographique, pour tout acteur agissant pour le developpement durable de l'île de La Réunion et ils occupent une place croissante tant dans l'organisation spatiale de l'île que dans la vie des pratiquantes
The century which was completed was that of the women, their emancipation and the considerable evolutions in their way of living. Women access to physical and sporting activities was the prelude of these evolution. In the Western micro region, the occupation of leisure times upsets society and women life space. Sporting leisure constitutes the new form of expression and spatiotemporal organization of women of the west micro region. Being in shape, well being, pleasure are the principal motivations of the sporting practice. On this region particularly dedicated to leisure and tourism, depending on the modes of investments and available time, the spatial realisations and conditions are different according to the sporting leisure invested by women of the west micro region. The sporting leisure then becomes a geographical stake for anyone acting for the durable development of Reunion Island and occupy important place in the spatial organization and in the life of the practicing

This thesis is an investigation of the place and function of repentance in the theology of Paul as determined by the critical application of the categories "getting-in" and staying-in" to the passages where the term is used and to passages where the concept may be implied. It contains an exegesis of those passages and an analysis of Paul's conversion experience. Consideration is also given to the implications this study has for other areas of New Testament study.
The main theses are that repentance was used by Paul in a variety of ways and played a more important role for him than has been thought and that Paul's place in early Christianity was in line with the teaching of Jesus and the early Christian church.
