El presente artículo busca mostrar la manera en que dos pensadores judíos del siglo XX, Franz Rosen-zweig y Jacques Derrida permiten pensar lo político, e incluso lo teológico político, más allá de la soberanía. Para ello leeré la noción de decisión pasiva de Derrida como alteridad y alteración de la razón a partir de la noción de Revelación que Franz Rosenzweig desarrolla en La estrella de la redención. En un segundo mo-mento, expondré la deconstrucción de la soberanía a partir de otro punto en común entre los dos pensado-res: la noción de una violencia intrínseca al derecho y la concepción de una política mesiánica.

Este artigo objetiva analisar como a Política Nacional de Alfabetização – PNA (2019) propõe o trabalho com a leitura na Educação Infantil. Utiliza, como metodologia, a pesquisa documental, ao analisar o caderno da PNA. Compreende a leitura a partir da perspectiva bakhtiniana de linguagem. Considera que, desde o primeiro ano de vida (Rossi, 2015), as crianças leem imagens, daí a premência do trabalho com a leitura de imagem da arte e da cultura visual para potencializar o debate sobre temáticas contemporâneas na Educação Infantil. Fundamenta-se em Franz (2008), Franz e Grallik (2006), Bakhtin (2011) e Barbosa (1998; 2005; 2022). Conclui que a concepção de leitura adotada na PNA reduz e invisibiliza o trabalho com a leitura de imagem na Educação Infantil.

The article is devoted to the biography of Justine Frank (1900-1943), a marginalized member of the surrealist movement, a painter and writer who combined Judaism with pornography, a critic of the Zionist project who tragically died in Palestine. Written by an Israeli artist and an expert on the interwar avant-garde, Roee Rosen, it is not only an artistic provocation – a part of a larger experiment in the field of the so-called parafiction also including editions of Frank’s novel Sweet Sweat and exhibitions of her paintings – but also an interesting statement in the discussion on the possibilities and limitations of feminist criticism, as it points out the problem of fabrication of the indispensable precursors.

The article analyses the workings of the Justine Frank phenomenon – a forgotten Jewish surrealist whose oeuvre was discovered in the early 2000s by the contemporary Israeli artist Roee Rosen. It discusses the question of the mutual creation of author functions of the critic and the artist, the researcher and the object of research, the predecessors and successors on the field of art. A reflection of Justine Frank’s ambivalent position in the history of (Israeli and European) art is concluded with a description of a proposed pragmatical approach to such art projects. Based on Massumi, Deleuze and Guattari, this approach does not focus on the creation, influences, formal procedures and produced meanings, but on the effects of artworks and events in the framework of social, political and cultural field into which they enter.

Background. In recent years musicologists revealed an increasing interest in the problem of historical typology of F. Schubert’s composer style. In fact, scholars question possibility to characterize it as romantic, in their turn suggesting another interpretations and characteristics. For instance, M. Brown avoids usage of the term “Romantic” referring to F. Schubert, insisting on him being a part of a Classical tradition. In order to substantiate his viewpoint, the scholar appeals to harmony of the composer, where novelties, according to M. Brown, are not in fact innovations but incredibly skilful incarnation of Classical ideas. More moderate opinion on the discussed problem is stated by Ch. Rosen (2003). While acknowledging “revolutionary” nature of F. Schubert’s harmony, the scholar simultaneously points out a “special status” of the composer in musical art, a status not allowing to apply neither Classical, nor Romantic standards to the works of master. Consequently, as Ch. Rosen says, F. Schubert ended up being “in-between” Classical tradition and Romantic innovations. In his earlier study (1997) abovementioned author uses term “Postclassicism” referring to F. Schubert and other artists of his generation. A collision “F. Schubert – L. van Beethoven” is regarded both by Е.Badura-Skoda (2004) and J. Daverio (2002). The latter one tries to solve it while regarding it through prism of R. Schumann’s observation on this problem. Thus, it is obvious that reception of F. Schubert’s style as typologically ambiguous has a long-lasting history dating back to Romantic era. This intrigue can be found in researches of XX century as well. For example, phenomenon of style of F. Schubert’s chamber works has become a topic of P. Wolfius’ rumination, who defined it as “intermediate” (1974). Mentioned above works of the last third of XX century and beginning of XXI century prove relevance of the problem of historical typology of F. Schubert’s composer style for modern musicology. This calls for its further development through analytical studying of musical material while using historically-typological method of research. In the given aspect, special attention should be drawn to early works by composer, including four Violin sonatas. Objectives. The goal of this paper is to comprehend stylistic phenomenon of these works as a result of mixture of Classical experience gained by F. Schubert and first signs of his oncoming individual view on the essence of music and sound. Methods. In order to achieve this goal, the author of current work uses a periodization of F. Schubert’s chamber legacy, created by H. Gleason and W. Becker (1988) as well as models of “biography scenario”, revealed by N. Savytska (2010). According to the former one, Violin sonatas, written in 1816–1817, don’t belong to the “mature” works; at the same time according to the latter ones, due to F. Schubert’s style evolution being smooth and gradual its starting and finishing points have no radical discrepancies, that would be caused by the change of orientation of composer’s creative method, and as a result, in the early works one can discern some key features of the mature ones. It is relevant, among others, for the sonata genre, where composers first achievements, incidentally, were made in its violin type, preceding highly individual accomplishments of piano sonatas. This situation in the given article is explained as a result of a composer becoming more and more mature as a musician through his life, undoubtedly influenced by special features of this process. Results and discussion. Given that F. Schubert’s Violin sonatas are named differently by performers, publishers and scholars (op. 137 consists of three Sonatas or Sonatinas, op. 162 is also known as “Duo”), it was necessary to conduct a research basing on various sources (Holl, 1973; Vetter, 1953; Deutsch, 1978), in order to ensure righteousness of definition of all the pieces regarded as “sonata”. On the foreground of observation on F. Schubert’s understanding of the cycle it was possible to reveal composer’s loyalty to rules of his time. Sonata ор. 137 № 1 is composed as a classical three-movement model; subsequent ones, including op. 162, embody four-movement model, and that can be a reason to draw parallels between F. Schubert and L. van Beethoven. Individual steps of the journey of author’s self-identification as a composer are traced. Sonata ор. 137 № 1 is marked by frequent employment of variative development in the principal theme of the first movement, that causes its turning into digressive episode; inclusion of contrasting episode in the middle sections of Andante in Sonatas ор. 137 № 2–3 (that is not prescribed by chosen musical form) foreshadows tonal device, favoured by F. Schubert in his mature works – preference to Subdominant sphere over Dominant in four-movement cycle with tonal and dramaturgical highlighting of pair “lyricism – game” in middle movements (slow ones and Minuets); binarity of tonal centres in expositions and even recapitulations of sonata form being substituted by ternarity, that causes a whole section to be a principal unit of structure etc. Sonata op. 162 acquires significance of climax in F. Schubert’s ascent to self-identity in sonata genre. Its expanded structure, including gigantic development of the Finale, Minuet being substituted by Scherzo, parts of performers being completely equal in every respect allow to regard this work as first “Grand Sonata” in F. Schubert’s legacy. Moreover – experience gained by composer while creating it will be applied in cyclic composition for piano in mature period of creativity. Conclusions. In Conclusions analytical observations are summarized and generalized as well as levels of artistic structure of Violin sonatas, incarnating specifics of F. Schubert’s understanding of music as a composer of his historical time, are revealed.

Estas obras, concebidas bajo la premisa de la originalidad de cada propuesta de acuerdo al sitio particular y que tenían al arquitecto Frank Lloyd Wright como principal referente, fueron reinterpre-tadas y teorizadas por él mismo con posterioridad, bajo el tamiz de las distintas teorías que ingre-saron en la disciplina a lo largo de las siguientes décadas y que desplazaron sus intereses a otros ámbitos de la profesión. X-ray astronomy was born in June 1962 with a totally unexpected discovery of a bright X-ray source (presently known as Sco X-1) in a historic rocket flight conducted by Riccardo Giacconi, Herb Gursky, Frank Paolini and late Bruno Rossi. In the last 30 years, astronomy through the newly opened window has made a dramatic expansion.The universe contains enormously rich varieties which had been left unexplored until recent times. From 40’s through 60’s, new wavelength windows, radio, infrared and X-rays successively opened. As a result, the presence of objects and regions distributed over an extremely wide temperature range from a few Kelvin through hundreds of millions of Kelvin were discovered. A burst of surprising discoveries made in 60’s marked the opening of a whole new era of multi-wavelength astronomy.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Twenty rose and ten claret A.O.C. Bordeaux wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Merlot grapes were separately tasted by the same jury of ten professionals. They were asked to classify the wines according to the intensity of the fruity character. The fruitiest sample was given first rank. The wines’ bdamascenone, b-ionone, phenyl-2-ethanol, isoamyl acetate, phenyl-ethyl acetate (APE), 3-mercaptohexan-1-ol (3MH) and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate (A3MH) contents were also measured. The higher the latter three compounds' values, the higher the wines’ fruity character. Highly significant correlation were found between the sensorial analysis results and these compounds contents. In order to confirm the 3MH, A3MH and APE contribution to the fruity aroma of rose wines, a tasting has been carried out. For this, these three compounds were added to a rose wine up to the concentrations found in the wine judged the fruitiest by the tasters. 100 % of the tasters identified the supplemented glasses, and 90 % prefered the supplemented wine. This second experiment clearly demonstrate that 3MH, A3MH and APE can be considered key components of Bordeaux rose wines’ fruity aroma.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The production of APE by yeast has been known for a long time. The 3MH is present in must under cysteinylated precursor form. The transformation of the precursor into aroma is made by the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts during alcoholic fermentation. Thus the choice of yeast strains has a decisive impact on the fruity aroma of Bordeaux rose and claret wines.</p>

The aim of this study was to evaluate the phytochemical profile and antioxidant properties of the extracts from three Rosa species (R. canina, R. damascena, R. cairo), to develop and investigate topical formulations with lyophilized forms of extracts for the treatment of psoriasis. Phytochemical screening and in vitro total antioxidant capacity (DPPH, FRAP, CUPRAC, SOD) of studied samples were examined and compared. Lyophilized extracts of roses were dissolved in Transcutol HP and different formulations of creams were prepared. Franz diffusion method was used to evaluate the drug release and biocompatibility was tested on HaCaT cells. Rosa damascene had the best results regarding all the analyses that were conducted. After the evaluation of topical products, the formulation with Rosa damascena extract in a self-emulsifying drug delivery system was tested on a human clinical study that involved 20 patients. At the end of the clinical study an improvement in the quality of life of the patients was observed and erythema, induration and scaling were reduced. The present study indicates that our examined extracts exhibited great phenolic content, antioxidant capacity and safety profile of topical formulation and therefore can be used as a reliable source of natural antioxidants and may be used as a complementary treatment to improve the quality life of patients with psoriasis or may be tested on another diseases.

This thesis deals with the image of the black madonna, a pre-Christian female deity, in the works of four Italian-Canadian authors: the works include Nina Ricci's novel Lives of the Saints, Frank G. Paci's novel Black Madonna, Vittorio Rossi's play The Last Adam, and Marco Micone's play Addolorata. The black madonna, the central figure of this thesis, is not an exclusively Italian phenomenon. Most people probably associate her with the image of the Southern European, predominantly old, often Italian peasant woman, who is dressed in black clothes from head to toe. The black madonna statues, however, are possibly connected with the veneration of a female divinity, the Great Mother, Great Goddess, primordial goddess, and even earth mother. In his early myth and folklore collection, Sir George Frazer concluded that the "great Mother Goddess (of Western Asia), the personification of all the reproductive energies of nature, was worshipped under different names but with a substantial similarity of myth and ritual" (Frazer 299). The presence of human destitution, impoverishment and degradation in the midst of plenty has puzzled social thinkers for millennia. One of the oldest and grandest of theories: the theory of ideology attempts to provide an answer to the puzzle of domination in society. Michael Rosen, in his book On Voluntary Servitude (1996), argues that the solution provided by the theory of ideology is problematic. Furthermore, on the basis of his critique, Rosen argues that we should abandon the theory of ideology and consider alternatives to it. Even though many contemporary academics have turned away from the theory of ideology, because they view it as an imprisoning meta-theory, this study explores the possibility of there being a meta-theory that could help us to make sense of the world. Through an examination of Rosen's critique this thesis shows that Rosen is too quick in his dismissal of the theory of ideology because he fails to consider that a revised functionalist theory of ideology can be expanded to account for the mechanism(s) that ensure that, over time, the society in question acquires ideological consciousness to further its welfare. This thesis shows that Rosen is correct in his criticism of the theory of ideology's explanation of domination because the content, history and social effects of ideological consciousness cannot be fully explained in terms of their role in promoting or stabilising relations of domination. In light of Rosen's criticism the thesis shows that if one provides both an explanation of the psychological motivations of individuals and of the nature of the oppressive society in which they find themselves then what I call an integrated theory of ideology can be developed. In order to illustrate the importance of an integrated theory of ideology the study moves away from high-level theoretical abstraction to concrete social analyses, focusing on the work of Frantz Fanon and Steve Biko and their explanations of domination. The reason this study focuses on their work is because in their role as social scientists, Fanon and Biko provided a powerful critique of colonial, post-colonial and neo-colonial society. It will be argued that Fanon and Biko were able to provide a lasting critique of colonial reality because they offered their critique within the framework of such an integrated theory. Consequently, this study argues that, as Fanon and Biko's work illustrate, an integrated theory of ideology qua critical theory ought not to be abandoned because it is crucial for understanding and resisting forms of oppression that exist in the world today.

Superati «novant’anni d’impazienza» e dopo un lungo periodo votato all’autocommento e all’esplorazione delle proprie intenzioni, Raffaele La Capria ha raccolto le sue opere in due Meridiani curati da Silvio Perrella. La Capria ne ha celebrato l’uscita nella prolusione inaugurale di Salerno Letteratura, poi confluita nel breve autoritratto narrativo "Introduzione a me stesso" (2014). In questa sede, l’autore è tornato su alcuni punti essenziali della sua riflessione sulla scrittura, come la relazione, reciproca e ineludibile, fra tradizione e contemporaneità. All’epilogo del «romanzo involontario» di una vita, La Capria guarda retrospettivamente alla propria esperienza come ad un’autentica educazione intellettuale. Perciò, muovendo da un’intervista inedita del 2015, riportata integralmente in appendice, la tesi ha l’obiettivo di ricostruire l’apprendistato letterario di La Capria dai primi anni Trenta, quando l’autore ancora frequentava il ginnasio, fino all’inizio dei Sessanta, quando ottenne il premio che ne avrebbe assicurato il successo. This study uncovers and interprets the representation of alterity in Schubert’s Moment musical in Aβ, op. 94 no. 2 (1828) and Wilde’s ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’ from The Happy Prince and Other Stories (1888). Furthermore, the study locates and contextually investigates analogies between Schubert’s representation of alterity and Wilde’s. There is a strong likelihood that Schubert was part of a Viennese subculture that was involved in illicit activities and dissident experimentation. Since Maynard Solomon published his essay ‘Franz Schubert and the Peacocks of Benvenuto Cellini’ in 1989, the possibility of Schubert’s homosexuality has received a vast amount of critical attention. Whatever his sexuality, his music has long been seen as containing distinctly feminine traits and subversive elements. Similarly to Schubert, Wilde’s homosexuality and resulting ostracism forms an essential aspect of his life, oeuvre and of subsequent and current Wilde studies. The way in which both Schubert and Wilde’s marginalisation and illicit activities lent a sense of alterity to their works is intriguing. Taking on the loose appearance of deconstructive readings, the analysis of Schubert’s work incorporates musical semiotics, while the analysis of Wilde’s fairy tale builds on ideas raised in the Schubert analysis. The deconstructive readings focus on the binary opposition between the concepts of redemption and defeat as found in Wilde’s fairy tale. The duality between redemption and defeat is shown to have particular resonance with the Romantic image of the artist as messiah and martyr. This study offers the hypothesis that the sense of alterity experienced by Schubert and Wilde is reflected in their works as a longing for the unattainable, a quest for redemption, and that the representation of this alterity is often subversive and dissident. Specific ways in which Schubert and Wilde represent alterity are by refusing climactic moments, by juxtaposing opposites, by symbolising homoeroticism, and by purposefully disobeying stylistic obligations. What Gall proposed in Vienna, while traveling through various German cities, and after he arrived in France in 1807 was transmitted by word of mouth and by the press to other countries. In particular, his travels and doctrine were covered in British periodicals and books even before Spurzheim went to Britain in 1814. Some of these publications were translations from German and French articles, while others came directly from foreign correspondents. Further, some included commentary, whereas others did not. Those with opinions varied, with some authors coming out for or against the doctrine, while cooler heads called for more evidence and verification before it could be judged. The British press dutifully covered Gall and Spurzheim’s 1808 Mémoire to the Institut de France, and readers across the British Isles were treated to reviews of the first few volumes of their Anatomie et Physiologie du Système Nerveux, which first began to appear in 1810. Although Thomas Brown published a strongly worded attack against Gall, the British seemed to take what they read in stride. No societies were formed, no journals launched, and no leader rose up to champion the new science prior to Spurzheim’s visits.

Abstract The Champion des dames is a debate poem in five books by the Provost of Lausanne and secretary to Amadeus VIII of Savoy, Martin Le Franc. The poem presents a series of exchanges between the ultimately triumphant pro-feminine Champion, Franc Vouloir, and five adversaries representing the Champion’s arch-enemy, Malebouche. Towards the, end of his debate with Trop Cuidier, at the close of Book III, the Champion takes issue both directly and indirectly with the totemic figure of late medieval literary misogyny, Jean de Meun, the late thirteenth-century continuator of Guillaume de Lorris’s Roman de la rose.

Abstract It was for long a matter of folk wisdom that national identity and religious allegiance coincided in Northern Ireland. The nationalist writer Frank Gallagher (1957), for instance, systematically used ‘nationalist’ when he appeared to mean ‘Catholic’. The first scholar to research the correlation between religion and national identity was Richard Rose, in his survey of 1968. In response to the question ‘which of these terms best describes the way you usually think of yourself?’, he obtained the results to be found in Table 4.1.

This chapter examines the intersection of race and loyalty. For all OSS members including Asian Americans, prosecuting alleged Asian American collaborators hinged on varying understandings of loyalty. For Frank Farrell, loyalty was fixed and emerged from the historical self, as George Fletcher asserted, as evident in the successful prosecution of the Tokyo Rose case. But for others, such as philosopher Simon Kellar, and Asian American investigators, loyalty was fluid, multilayered, and contingent, and violation of it by words alone was insufficient for prosecution for treason under Article III of the Constitution. As a result of their work, many alleged collaborators were exonerated.

Abstract When the brief report by Frank and Fuortes appeared in 1957, I was in Canberra, and I remember vividly the excitement that it created. I had an experiment with Rose Eccles planned for the next day and we had no difficulty confirming their findings. I left Canberra soon afterwards and could not participate in the analysis, but in subsequent years, I read, with increasing amazement, the remarkable series of papers on presynaptic inhibition that emanated from there. Two of Eccles’s main collaborators in that body of work, R. F. Schmidt and W. D. Willis, are contributing to the present volume.

Chapter 5 deals with the ordinal revolution in utility analysis inaugurated by Vilfredo Pareto around 1900. The fundamental notion of Pareto’s analysis was that of preference, and he conceived of utility as a numerical index expressing the preference relations between commodities. While Pareto’s ordinal approach was highly innovative, his understanding of measurement remained the unit-based one. The second part of chapter 5 reconstructs an important debate on the measurability of utility that took place in Austria from 1907 to 1912. Franz Čuhel and Ludwig von Mises rejected Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk’s idea that it is possible to identify a unit to measure utility, and, independently of Pareto, they advocated an ordinal approach to utility. Especially through Mises’s influence, the ordinal approach to utility rose to prominence among Austrian economists after World War I. The final part of chapter 5 discusses the differences between the Austrian and Paretian approaches to ordinal utility.

Abstract Frank Anthony opposed Partition at the Sapru Committee, predicting fanaticism and war. The Indo-Pakistani War of 1947–8 erupted within months of independence. Although darker-skinned individuals were barred from Royal Air Force/RAF flight crews, many Anglo-Indians joined. Contrastingly, the nascent Indian Air Force/IAF offered flight training and entry at officer level. Therefore, pilots like Wing Commander Trevor Keelor, and his brother, future Air Marshal Denzil Keelor, were immediately ready for the First Kashmir War, being the first pair of brothers to receive the Vir Chakra, with Trevor having scored the first air kill (a Pakistani Sabre fighter) for independent India. Again in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 (the Second Kashmir War), Anglo-Indians engaged in the fiercest dogfights ever in the Indian subcontinent. While Chief Marshall La Fontaine and Admiral Pereira, rose to become heads of the Indian Air Force and Navy, Lieutenant Mervyn Leslie Middlecoat of the Pakistani Air Force/PAF, was twice awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat (Star of Courage), celebrated as the "Defender of Karachi" and with Middlecoat Shaheed Park, Islamabad. The Frank Anthony Public Schools provided increased employment opportunities while Anglo-Indian women added the emerging fields of travel and tourism, telecommunications, and retail to their existing roles as nurses and teachers.

Abstract Frank Rowlett did not know what the word meant. A country boy from Rose Hill, Virginia, Rowlett had shown an aptitude for science and mathematics almost as soon as he began making the mile-and-a-half trek to the local one-room schoolhouse. After graduating from high school he attended a small college nearby, where he tutored students in algebra and geometry. By the time he was a junior, he was teaching a regular college math class, as well as serving as a laboratory assistant in physics and chemistry. Rowlett intended to do graduate work in math, but during his senior year he saw an announcement for a U.S. Civil Service examination for a mathematician. Shortly after taking the exam a telegram arrived offering Rowlett a job: $2000 a year as a “cryptanalyst.”
