Pełny tekst źródłaThis research initially consisted of the production of documentary films and a collection of vernacular images produced in the "Gypsy Quarter" ( "ţigănie") of Diţeşti, a village in the south of Romania. From the start of this investigation, my interlocutors informed me that their ţigănie is populated by images; telenovelas, domestic pictures, “commissioned home movies”, etc. Each filmed situation is therefore the subject of intense negotiations between practices and contrasting filmic experiences. This work is based on a description and the reconstruction of the lived experiences, sedimented with images of my interlocutors. By observing the ramifications of this work, both in the social world and in a history and ecology of images, it has progressively taken the form of an investigation by the filmic arts, a visual and digital history of Gypsy figures of the Romanian cultural industries and an archeology of vernacular film practices in ţigănie. Although the scale of the analysis is that of a monograph, the challenge of this work is to show how this form of experience reconfigures the practice of filmic arts and broadens the phenomenal field of different research traditions that constitute the field of Visual Anthropology ("experimental ethnography", Indigenous media and ethnographic film). In short, this set of visual and textual proposals considers the filmic arts as analytical tools for understanding and making understood the lived experience of filmed people and the agentivity of images in the social world we inhabit. What this thesis proposes, both in its hypothesis and conclusion, is to consider both filmmakers and the anthropologist’s interlocutors as true observers and theoreticians of images and experienced realities. Thus, by understanding images through the experience of the respondents’ images, this research demonstrates the way in which the filmic arts - as a practice and a discipline - generate new anthropological questions. In addition, and more critically, this knowledge of images invites us to reconsider attentively the way in which anthropologists (and filmmakers) sometimes delegate the descriptive, memorial or transactional functions of images to visual technologies

Pełny tekst źródłaThis dissertation reflects on nature writing in French-speaking contemporary literature. Drawing on a corpus of literary texts from Europe (Chevillard, Michon, Mingarelli, Ollier, Réda, Rouaud, Simon, Tesson, Trassard) and the Caribbean (Chamoiseau, Glissant, Maximin), the author examines how awareness of ecological peril determines literary geographies and the representation of space more generally. North-American ecocriticism offers a part of the theoretical framework, but recent findings in European ecopoetics prove to be more suitable to analyse literature in French. The study shows that ecological awareness entails a new worldview that invalidates pre-existing representations of space. Thus, exploring the wilderness does not longer lead the observer to celebrate the sublime landscapes that nature offers him. On the contrary, the encounter with the wilderness tends to be unsuccessful, and if it entails any sublime experience, it is equally a temporary and a fragile one. Likewise, the prehistoric narrative does not longer rely on the literary strategies of the traditional prehistoric novel: rather than to reconstruct a prehistoric time and to show the triumphant arrival of humankind as does the latter, the contemporary narrative conducts in the present an uncertain and troubled investigation regarding the significance of prehistoric human traces. Literary texts thus show the discrepancy between the relativity of human history and the permanence of geological time. They underline the need to reconfigure traditional representations of space and question the central position that humankind attributes to himself. Literature then promotes space as a plastic and mobile entity. The garden more precisely appears to be a motive that reconciles human efforts of planning and managing with the disorderly energy of nature. Contemporary literary aesthetics appear then to be determined by an ecopoetic mobility that signals a new empathy with the world
In deze studie wordt het natuurschrijven (nature writing) in de hedendaagse Franssprekende literatuur ondervraagdUitgaand van een corpus van Europese (Chevillard, Michon, Mingarelli, Ollier, Réda, Rouaud, Simon, Tesson, Trassard) en Caribische teksten (Chamoiseau, Glissant, Maximin), bestudeert de auteur hoe de bewustwording van de ecologische crisis de literaire afbeelding van plaats beïnvloedt. Het theoretisch kader wordt deels door de Noord-Amerikaanse ecokritiek verschaft, maar de recente ondervindingen van de Europese ecopoetiek blijken nog beter aangepast aan de Franstalige literatuur. Het onderzoek toont aan dat de ecologische crisis een nieuw wereldbeeld meebrengt dat de traditionele weergave van plaats in vraag stelt. De verkenning van de wildernis leidt bijvoorbeeld niet tot een sublimering van het natuurlandschap, maar de ontdekkingen van de reiziger blijven beperkt tot een gedempt subliem, een tijdelijke gebeurtenis die op elk ogenblik onderbroken kan worden. Het prehistorisch verhaal vernieuwt evenzeer de literaire structuren van de traditionele prehistorische roman. Daar waar deze laatste de prehistorische tijd getrouw weergeeft en de triomf van de mensheid in beeld brengt, vertelt het prehistorische verhaal veeleer een twijfelende en angstig zoektocht omtrent de prehistorische sporen van de mensheid in het landschap. De relatieve historische tijd van de mens contrasteert zo met de ononderbroken eeuwigheid van de geologische tijd. Wat de literatuur dan naar voor brengt, is de nood om de bestaande verwoordingen van ruimtegevoel te herzien en om de mens te doen afzien van de centrale plaats die hij zich gewoonlijk toekent. Plaats is dan, zoals de teksten aantonen, een plastisch en mobiel gegeven. Zo blijkt de tuin een plek te zijn die de menselijke zin voor ordening en vormgeving verzoent met de ontembare energie van de natuur. De esthetische weergave van plaats in de hedendaagse literatuur beantwoordt zo aan een ecopoëtische beweeglijkheid als teken van een vernieuwde overeenstemming met de wereld

La première, Mécanique de la nuit, est un recueil de nouvelles oniriques qui aborde la confrontation entre l’humain et la nature en mettant en scène des catastrophes naturelles, des animaux sauvages, des parasites, etc. Les textes se structurent par des échos entre les personnages et les lieux. Ils sont portés par une voix narrative qui raconte les histoires à la troisième personne et disserte sur la notion de rêve dans une perspective scientifique. La seconde partie s’intitule Narration et imagination environnementale dans Les larmes de saint Laurent de Dominique Fortier. Elle analyse la place de la narration dans la poétique de cette oeuvre éclatée pour ensuite en étudier la portée d’un point de vue écocritique. De cette façon, elle vise à dégager la contribution potentielle d’une narration atypique au renouvellement de l’imaginaire environnemental contemporain.

Pełny tekst źródłaIn order to hope to develop a political philosophy that immediately recognizes our interdependence, we work in a first part to establish assumptions about what we mean by reality and our access to it. An event-based ontology seems compatible with the narrative ontogenesis which constitutes us individually by constituting a "we". This requires imagining everyone imagining the world and learning through stories, in an inductive logic that can reconcile hermeneutic phenomenology on the one hand and statistical learning on the other. From these stories each identifies universals, interpretable as principal components of a factorial statistical analysis of these stories that constitute us. Time plays a key role in the dynamics of this constitution as well as in the events gathered in these stories. The stakes are ultimately to share these universals in a common story, or, conversely, in a temporal break that may allow better access to a common world. We then work in a second part on the question of living together with republican ideas of freedom, equality and fraternity, and with those of plurality and boundaries. The political ecology that we see then is as republican as libertarian. In this context, justice is expressed by rightness, fidelity, sensitivity and a “fair excess”. The categorical imperative lies in the need to make others beautiful, free, and powerful, and to learn together. Law appears to develop dynamically in the very time that the City is developed. The possibility of the radically “new” worked in the first part allows articulating freedom and institutions. The logic of a code of honor ultimately allows not to surrender to the Almighty Reason without giving up the Enlightenment

Pełny tekst źródłaSince the Independences and until the middle of the 20th century, Latin American literature was largely consolidated in the wake of its relationship with nature. Different currents and concepts such as novela de la tierra are anchored in this relationship. It is in this context that the novelas de la selva appear, mainly in the area around the Orinoco and Amazonian basins. We have based our work on an ecocritical analysis of La Vorágine (1924), Los pasos perdidos (1953) and La casa verde (1965), a framework that is not frequently used in the Spanish-speaking area. Through the study of three ecological tropes (destruction, preservation and sustainability) and a theoretical framework that challenges the classic concept of the Nature/Culture relationship (based in particular on the work of Philippe Descola and Bruno Latour), we will examine the relevance of ecocritical analysis as far as those three novels are concerned, in the light of a growing awareness for ecology
Desde las Independencias y hasta la mitad del siglo XX, la literatura latinoamericana ha tenido la naturaleza como fuente de inspiración. Diferentes corrientes y conceptos como novela de la tierra se basan en esa relación. Es en este marco aparecen las novelas de la selva, principalmente alrededor de la cuenca de Orinoco y del Amazonas. Nuestro trabajo se basa en un análisis de La Vorágine (1924), Los pasos perdidos (1953) y La casa verde (1965), desde un punto de vista ecocrítico, corriente teórica aun hoy poco utilizada en el ámbito hispano. A partir de tres tropos ecológicos (destrucción, preservación y sostenibilidad) y con la ayuda de un marco teórico que cuestiona el concepto clásico de la relación Naturaleza/Cultura (basado en los estudios de Philippe Descola y Bruno Latour), vamos a interrogarnos sobre la pertinencia de un análisis ecocrítico en el contexto de una relectura de estas tres novelas, a la luz de una nueva sensibilidad: la ecología

Pełny tekst źródłaJohn Steinbeck’s works cannot be reduced to a strict aesthetic or ideological categorization. They are often studied at the crossroads of colourful styles that intermingle and clash, in order to grasp the substratum of the work behind its varieties. The challenge of this thesis is to study the link between aesthetics, politics and ethics, starting not from the writer's political positions but from the works themselves, in order to analyze the ways in which these notions can be dynamically and progressively highlighted as the work unfolds over four decades. Moving from the lyrical and picaresque novel to the social novel (particularly Tortilla Flat and the Dust Bowl Novels trilogy: In Dubious Battle, Of Mice and Men and The Grapes of Wrath), John Steinbeck makes it possible for a political critique to be constructed in his work based on a questioning of the linearity of narrative discourse. Like the form of the discourse, the narrative “content” conveys and develops a political vision that substitutes for the American Dream and its utopian “Melting Pot” a more realistic sociopolitical structure in which one perceives “two opposing classes”, by virtue of the system of capitalist domination. Steinbeck reworked the novel genre to develop a providential, humanist and anti-capitalist vision. By testing the notions of plot, protagonist (or “hero”) and temporality, he placed this political critique at the very heart of the writing process, inviting readers to take a fresh look at his more “political” works of the 1930s and 1950s, and at the links between modernism, political engagement and ecology. Although some of his works are radically contested, he has made constant use of the myth of origins. This recourse to the mythical thoughts of the founding American texts acts as a hyphen allowing him to deconstruct literarily the dominant political discourses of his society
