Streszczenie:

The terms personality, identity, self or person and many others, are used in the literature in different ways. Sometimes the term implies the personality of the self and the person (Leary, 2004), and sometimes the identity (Harre, 2001). An important source of terminological confusion in the study of self and identity lies in a variety of different perspectives in the social sciences. The subject of this paper is to present the concept of identity in social constructionist paradigm. The paper focuses on works of social psychologist Kenneth Gergen (Gergen, 1991; Gergen, 2002; Gergen, 2009), Rom Harre (Harre, 2001, Harre, 2004; Harre & Tisaw, 2005) and John Shotter (Shotter, 1989; Shotter, 1997) whose speaking of the fragmented nature of identity. The similarities and differences between these approaches are shown. In conclusion, theoretical, methodological and political implications of adopting a new understanding of identity are reconsidered.

This paper contributes to post-crisis, social constructionist psychological literature addressing mainstream psychology’s failure to engage in a relevant way with people’s everyday experiences. We work with a narrative psychology paradigm, focussing specifically on the element of metaphor as a useful way to come to terms with how our ‘selves’ and our interactions with others are sociolinguistically fashioned. We discuss an article by Ian Parker, in which personal accounts illuminate the linguistic embeddedness of psyches. To illustrate the value of metaphor for locating, and potentially transforming, interpretations in daily encounters, we consider a text by Bronwyn Davies and Rom Harré.

Developed as a socio-constructivist theory with the aim of understanding discursive construction of selves, Positioning Theory has been applied to the analysis of conversations and narratives across disciplines. This paper provides an overview of Positioning Theory developed by Rom Harré and his colleagues and describes the basic concepts and principles of the theory. By illustrating how it has been applied to studies in contexts that involve English language learners or teachers, the paper identifies ways that Positioning Theory may positively impact classroom practice and outlines areas for further research that EMI classroom practitioners can carry out. A number of practical guidelines for conducting positioning analysis are also offered.

Presentaremos cuatro diferentes tipos de spam de 450 correos electrónicos, que tengan entre 4 y 52 líneas de extensión. Estos se recibieron entre finales de 2009 y mediados de 2016 y fueron escritos en inglés, español, portugués y francés. Nuestro análisis se realizará en 2 pasos. En el primer paso se describirán las estrategias lingüísticas discursivas. En el segundo paso, se abordará la expresión lingüística de las emociones. In this article, we aim at relating emotions and gender stereotypes through the analysis of the narratives contained in spam e-mails. We will present four different types of spam e-mails from a corpus consisting of 450 emails, their length being between four and fifty-two lines of extension. They were received between late 2009 and mid-2013, and written in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. Our analysis will be carried out in two steps. In the first step, the discursive-linguistic strategies will be described. In the second step, the linguistic expression of emotions will be addressed. We will rely on the Positioning Theory of Rom Harré to identify where authors and readers are positioned in the narratives.

Psykologi har altid været en tosidet videnskab. Allerede Aristoteles hævdede, at det samme psykologiske fænomen, fx vrede, dels kunne forstås som et element i en årsagskæde, og dels i en »retorisk« sammenhæng, hvor vreden er en respons på oplevet uretfærdighed. De psykologiske fænomener har derfor både en NOMISK og en NORMATIV side. Wundt mente nok så berømt, at der derfor var behov for to psykologier: En eksperimentalvidenskab og en kulturvidenskab. I denne artikel søger jeg først at give et overblik over noget af det, der historisk er skrevet om de to psykologier, og jeg forsvarer en dualistisk position, der bygger på, at begge slags psykologi er legitime, men at vi samtidig må acceptere, at den normative psykologi er primær i logisk og videnskabsfilosofisk forstand. In this article, drawing on the discursive psychology of Rom Harré, we show how mapping the exchange of words among people might disclose a complex reality; not merely that which farmers explicitly talk ‘about’ but the reality implicitly at stake within the communication. More specifically, we show how discourses involving modern farmers reveal an underlying placing in an abstract space, having sub-spaces defined by the life-orientation, sense of self and according self-positioning of modern people. In this way, we construct a road map of a set of ‘individualities’ characterizing the life of modern farmers: an individuality of citizenship, an individuality of geographies and an individuality of experience. Consequently, farmers face the problem that this multiplicity of individuality prevents them from communicating, as we will call it, univocally in the public by contrast to the univocal voices of other established social groups. We will analyse the structure of that problem by viewing diverse relations between the authority and the authenticity of different partners in the conversation on land use.

Roughly a half-century ago, R.M. Hare gave us a potent argument against attempts to account for the meaning of moral language in non-normative or ‘descriptive’ terms. The argument relies on the idea that in order to have genuine moral disagreement, we have to be talking about the same thing. Real disagreement requires agreement in meaning: if the words we use in our disputes mean different things, then we're just talking past, and not to, one another. Using this simple observation, Hare argues that if the meaning of an evaluative word such as ‘good’ were primarily descriptive, then groups with sufficiently different standards for applying ‘good’ wouldn't be able to enter into a real evaluative disagreement. But these disagreements are possible. Hence, he concluded, it's the evaluative meaning of ‘good’ that's primary — and any descriptive account is bound to fail because it doesn't capture the crucial element of endorsement that's central to normative language.

Streszczenie:

This study aims to analyze the effect of Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Return On Assets (ROA), and Earning Per Share (EPS) on Price to Book Value (PBV). The sample used was a telecommunications company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the 2009-2013 period, in which there were six companies. The statistical method used is a multiple linear regression model. From the results of the Classical Assumptions test that is a test for normality, autocorrelation, multicollinearity, and heterosecdasticity, followed by multiple linear regression testing. The results showed that simultaneously (simultaneously) the variable Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Return On Assets (ROA), and Earning Per Share (EPS) significantly influence the Price to Book Value (PBV) with a significance of 0,000. While partially only Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) with a significance of 0,000, Return On Assets (ROA) with a significance of 0,000 that significantly influence the Price to Book Value (PBV). While Earning Press hare has no significant effect on Price to Book Value (PBV) with a significance level of 0.273.

This study examined implicit memory for words presented during sleep. Ten experimental subjects were presented with word pairs including a homophone and a close associate (e.g., “tortoise-hare”) and with category-instance pairs (e.g., “bird-cardinal”) during REM or Stage 2 sleep and tested immediately afterward. Twelve control subjects underwent the same procedure while awake. Unlike the controls, subjects in the sleeping condition showed no learning effects on the implicit memory tasks. Recall and recognition were observed in a few cases, but only when presentation was immediately followed by arousal.

This article will present a new way of capturing highly dynamic intergroup differentiation processes through applying a spatial perspective. Drawing from my experiences collected during several field research visits to Bosnia aimed at assessing Post-Dayton intergroup relations, and inspired by the works of Doreen Massey, Michel De Certeau, and Rom Harré, I will suggest that one key to understanding how groups interpret the behavior of other groups lies in the meaning groups ascribe to the place of their interaction. With the rules of a place limiting the range of actions social agents can chose from, an understanding of ’normal’ behavior is established; which in the same second positions all other possible acts as outside the local moral order. Thus making the right to interpret a central place a favorable position and the interpretation of such a place into a strong positioning act influencing the terms of future interactions. Deciphering the dominant political meanings of central places on which intergroup interactions take place therefore becomes a promising way of understanding intergroup positioning processes. Approximating to the meanings local groups ascribe to central places, however, is in need of a thorough interpretational framework; one possible framework, based on analyzing the symbols that are used in the interpretational acts themselves, will round up this spatial approach to understanding intergroup interactions.
