Streszczenie:
Abstract Several optical diagnostics in the ITER fusion reactor make use of big mirrors which are placed within the ITER vacuum vessel (VV), and therefore cannot have high accessibility. Plasma deposits developing on these mirrors may hinder the reflectivity of the mirror themselves, requiring a remote cleaning operation. The radio-frequency (RF) discharge mirror cleaning service operates a plasma discharge in the vicinity of the mirror, eroding the deposit layer and therefore cleaning the mirror remotely. In order to achieve this, RF power needs to be sent from outside the VV to the mirror, using a transmission line. Very stringent design requirements are applicable to the design of this RF line, such as vacuum compatibility, high power handling, low losses, overall matching, no cable over-heating, etc. This paper analytically addresses the design optimization of the RF mirror cleaning transmission line, taking into account ITER requirements, in order to give robust guidelines for the possible ad-hoc cable design adaptation that is to be undertaken case-by-case. The design guidelines are based on underlying transmission line theory, from which a set of design equations are drawn. The optimal design is achieved using design optimization considerations in the available design space. These guidelines are considered to be a useful design tool for optical diagnostics requiring mirror cleaning operation, and are aimed at harmonising the transmission line design procedures across the different cases.

Streszczenie:
Deposition of synchrotron-radiation-induced carbon contamination on beamline optics causes their performance to deteriorate, especially near the carbon K edge. The photon flux losses due to carbon contamination have spurred researchers to search for a suitable decontamination technique to restore the optical surface and retain its performance. Several in situ and ex situ refurbishing strategies for beamline optics are still under development to solve this serious issue. In this work, the carbon contamination is removed from a large (340 mm × 60 mm) Au-coated toroidal mirror surface using a capacitively coupled low-pressure RF plasma. Before and after RF plasma cleaning, the mirror was characterized by Raman spectroscopy, soft X-ray reflectivity (SXR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. The Raman spectra of the contaminated mirror clearly show the G (1575–1590 cm−1) and D (1362–1380 cm−1) bands of graphitic carbon. The SXR curve of the contaminated mirror shows a clear dip near the critical momentum transfer of carbon, indicating the presence of carbon contamination on the mirror surface. This dip disappears after removal of the contamination layer by RF plasma exposure. A decrease in the intensities of the CO bands is also observed by optical emission spectrometry during plasma exposure. The AFM and SXR results suggest that the root-mean-square (r.m.s.) roughness of the mirror surface does not increase after plasma exposure.

Abstract We present an electro-mechano-optical radiofrequency (rf)-to-light signal transducer robust against laser heating and thus operational at room temperature. A metal-free, low-loss metasurface mirror and an aluminum electrode made separately on a Si3N4 membrane oscillator comprise a chain of electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems, mediating electrical and optical signals through the (2,2)-mode characteristic oscillation. We demonstrate up-conversion of rf signals at 175.2 MHz by 6 orders of magnitude in frequency to an optical regime with the transfer efficiency of 2.3 × 10−9, also showing stable operation due to reduced laser heating of the mirror.

The Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) system of China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is designed to inject 20 MW RF power into the plasma for heating and current drive (H&CD) applications. The ECRH system consists of 20 gyrotrons, the associated power supplies, the transmission lines and one launcher. In order to compare the launcher performance from equatorial and upper ports, two types of launcher are designed in this paper. In equatorial launcher (EL), twenty in-vessel transmission lines are divided into four groups. Every five gaussian beams from in-vessel transmission lines face one fixed focusing mirror and one steering mirror. All gaussian beams are injected into the plasma with optimal toroidal and poloidal angles calculated by C3PO/LUKE code. In upper launcher (UL), twenty-one transmission lines are supposed and divides into three groups. Every seven gaussian beams are injected into one fixed focusing mirrors and all twenty-one beams reflected to one common steering mirror finally. The optical transmission characteristics and the convergence information of gaussian beams are checked and optimized. The EL or UL is installed on the equatorial or upper port with a port-plug modular structure.

Calcium phosphate coating films were fabricated on mirror-polished or blast-treated titanium substrates using radio-frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering and they were evaluated in vitro. Immersion tests for the films were conducted using phosphate-buffered saline (PBS(-)), and apatite formation and the elution of calcium ions from the films were investigated. The bonding strengths between the calcium phosphate films and titanium substrates before and after the immersion tests were evaluated. After the immersion tests, a decrease in the bonding strength was observed for the coating films on the mirror-polished titanium substrates, while that for the blast-treated titanium substrates was almost the same as that before the immersion tests.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Full duplex-in band (FDIB) is a well-established solution for increasing the data rate and spreading the link range for future communication systems. FDIB systems need no additional bandwidth requirement. However, they are confronted with a major interference challenge on the same site, called co-site interference (CSI). Long-established co-site interference cancellation (CSIC) methods achieve a cancellation depth upto 35 dB, conversely it has space containments, manufacturing imperfections, induces noise penalties and limits isolation bandwidth. To overcome these problems, RF photonic CSIC methods have been developed, which have produced 30 dB wide-band interference suppression. They also increase bandwidth, have a flexible structure, minimize losses and prevent periodic power fading. But these systems have a problem of inherent DC drift, low maintenance of coherence, and low isolation at low transmission power. Thus, there is a high need for photonic CSIC designs of FDIB systems that operate over wider bandwidths and at higher transmission powers. Here, a newfangled CSIC system based on a non-linear photonic loop and frequency down-conversion is proposed. It shows excellent CSIC suppression of greater than 61 dB, for a single frequency signal of interest (SOI) with maximum RF power of 13 dBm. Without frequency down-conversion, the system maintains an average cancellation depth of 62.541 dB for single frequency SOI. After frequency down conversion, the system maintains an average cancellation depth of 61.208 dB for narrow band SOI. The system attains 18% error vector magnitude at −20 dB RF output power, which confirms the comprehensive quality of the system.

In this study, in order to prevent the silver film from being oxidized, a layer of tungsten(W)was deposited on the silver(Ag)film to form the WO3/Ag/W/WO3(WAWW)conductive multilayer films, which were deposited on the B270 glass substrate with W and Ag targets by using radio frequency magnetron reactive sputtering system at room temperature. The WAWW multilayer films were electrically conductive when the thickness of the W layer must be greater than 2 nm. The sheet resistance of the WAWW films was 4.6 /sq when the thickness of the W layer was 2 nm. Based on the structure of the WAWW multilayer films, the WAWW 7-layer coating was designed by the Essential Macleod optical film software and was fabricated to investigate its optical properties and electrochromism. The design of electrochromic WAWW 7-layer coating was WO3(29.46 nm)/Ag(14.2 nm)/W(2 nm)/WO3(68.58 nm)/Ag(16.97 nm)/W(2 nm)/WO3(30.4 nm). The average transmittance of the WAWW 7-layer coating in the visible light range and the infrared range in the bleached state was 71.5% and 9.9%, respectively. The average transmittance of the WAWW 7-layer coating in the visible light range in the colored state was 23.6%. The WAWW 7-layer coating has electrochromic properties and electrical conductivity and can be used as a transparent heat mirror.

Streszczenie:
RF discharge excited slab-waveguide carbon dioxide lasers have been developed as relatively inexpensive sources of good beam quality, high power, far infrared radiation (10.6µm). They commonly incorporate a hybrid resonator design which involves waveguide propagation in the transverse direction and a confocal-unstable design in the lateral (wide) dimension. Such resonators offer excellent beam quality, adequate for most applications. However, they may exhibit variations in the beam shape when mirrors are tilted, and scaling the laser to high powers requires use of wide spherical mirrors, which causes increased sensitivity to unwanted spherical curvatures (bending and twisting) overlaid on the mirror shape during manufacturing and/or mounting, To remove this unwanted behaviour, alternative resonator geometries are under consideration.

Gas discharge excitation at 40.68 MHz (ISM frequency in the VHF-band) is proven to be efficient for non-wave-guide, diffusion-cooled, large area CO2 laser employing a novel type of resonator cavity referred to as split-wave hybrid (SWH) resonator [1]. SWH resonator approach represents a custom resonator concept in the design of sealed-off, high power, single mode CO2 lasers for industrial applications. Electrode walls in the SWH resonator act as wave-front-splitting mirrors similar to a Fresnel double mirror or Lloyd mirror interferometer [2].

Streszczenie:
Two types of photonic processors for generating the properly phased signals for a dynamically steered phased-array antenna are presented. Both methods make use of a class of spatial light modulator known as a deformable-mirror device (DMD). These devices can be envisioned as an N × N array of mirror elements, each capable of (computer-controlled) independent motion that is typically on the order of optical wavelengths. Varying this optical path length produces a substantial rf phase shift through photomixing. Because the number of elements in a DMD can be large (each DMD element corresponds to an array element, the highly directive antenna radiation patterns necessary for radar applications can be readily achieved. It is further demonstrated that a DMD-based system can be used to synthesize a variable rf delay line. Continuously variable true time delay in the rf regime has never been previously obtained, and, as such the scheme presented represents a significant contribution to the rf/microwave community as a whole. Experimental results that demonstrate both systems' performance are presented.

In the past few years, an area scaling technique with the advantages of simplicity and easy achieving compact high power lasers have been well developed and applied in the field of RF excited waveguide carbon dioxide and Xe and Ar lasers, which employs an RF gas discharge excited slab hollow waveguide and an unstable optical resonator combined with a diffusive cooling technique to obtain a compact high power laser. In this paper, we shall present an RF gas discharge excited carbon monoxide area scaling laser. In this laser, the top electrode was cooled with the tap water and the bottom electrode was cooled with the liquid nitrogen to maintain the slab waveguide gas discharge region at a very low temperature The discharge region has a size of 500mm length × 178mm width × 2mm height. In the experiments, a slab waveguide region was excited by a RF transverse gas discharge at a frequency of 93MHz, a new type of optical resonator consisting of a concave mirror with a curvature radius of 5390mm, a convex mirror with a curvature radius of 4330mm and a flat feedback mirror was employed, the output aperture size is 2mm × 45mm, a gas composition of CO : He : Xe : O2 at a ratio of 8.7 : 87 : 3.9 : 0.4 with operation pressures between 50 torr and 70 torr was used, by which a maximum of laser power output of over 1 Kilowatts was obtained.
