AbstractWe argue that prioritization, simultaneity, and mutual exclusion are mind-body integration functions that can't be addressed meaningfully at the psychological (computational) level alone. We describe the outlook for an integration between Kurzban et al.'s profound discussion of opportunity cost/benefit prioritization and decades of related development in biofunctional science.

Adults of the monogenean genus Protopolystoma infecting Xenopus species occur in an extremely space-limited habitat, the urinary bladder. Xenopus wittei, from a population in Rwanda naturally infected with Protopolystoma fissilis and Protopolystoma simplicis, were exposed to reinfection in captivity (for 1–3 months post-capture) and then monitored in the laboratory for up to 5 months in transmission-free conditions. The two parasites co-occurred in individual bladders less frequently than expected if they were dispersed randomly. Distribution of bladder infections was significantly non-independent (n=157) and gravid worms of both species were never found in the same host. This pattern might be explained by interference competition between the parasites or by genetic differences in susceptibility within the host species, which is of allopolyploid origin. Other distributional data for sympatric polystomatid species pairs, including P. fissilis and P. ramulosus, show concurrent infections at frequencies consistent with random distributions (i.e. no evidence of interspecific competition or variability in species-specific susceptibility of the hosts). Interference between P. fissilis and P. simplicis (assuming host genetic factors are not involved) may therefore result from a mechanism specific to this species pair. Observations on infection turnover in captive hosts suggest that loss of adult worms may be related to the arrival of juveniles (of either species) in the urinary bladder. Ectopic infection of the host urinary ducts by adult and subadult P. fissilis was observed in some single-species infestations and may be density related. However, the use of an ectopic-site ‘refugium’ has never been observed in concurrent polystomatid infections.

ABSTRACT Based on the assumption that seasonal patterns have been identified in stock market assets and also in the context of equity mutual funds, the aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between the seasonality presented by the January effect and the net flow of Brazilian equity funds. The study extends the potential effects of seasonality beyond the return on stock market assets, demonstrating that seasonal patterns can also be observed in Brazilian mutual fund flows. The literature mostly points to common factors related to the performance of equity mutual funds; therefore this study investigates mutual fund flows, demonstrating that different factors influence the decisions of fund investors, including seasonal factors. The study has practical implications for fund managers, as it highlights a set of variables that can be used to anticipate variations in fund flow, reducing their effects on performance and avoiding costs. The results were estimated using panel data regression analysis. The study sample consisted of 1,010 equity funds, covering the period from January of 2004 to June of 2018. It was found that the average net inflow of Brazilian equity mutual funds is higher in January than in other months of the year, which characterizes the existence of a seasonal pattern in their net flows. However, the effect is different between exclusive and non-exclusive funds. As contributions, our findings: (i) provide a better understanding about the factors related to investor decision-making; (ii) point out new aspects in which exclusive and non-exclusive funds differ; and (iii) present factors that influence mutual fund flows.

The authors explore the discourses around the exclusion of the Roma in Serbia in two dimensions: social welfare sector and media reports. The paper is structured around the presentation of dimensions contributing to multiple deprivation of Roma in society (from education to labor market participation, social welfare and health care, as well as housing); a review of public policies directed toward the improvement of their position; and analysis of the discourses on Roma within the contexts of the social welfare sector and media reporting. A review of related literature and public policy documents was followed by a qualitative analysis of media reports as well as a review of the secondary sources regarding media discourses on the Roma. This was followed by evidence gathered from semi-structured interviews and discussions with stakeholders in the social welfare sector. The main conclusions of the paper point to the mutual reinforcement of the discourses on the Roma in the social welfare sector and media reports, with their subsequent mutual contribution to social exclusion.

In distributed processing systems, especially when processes constitute collaborative groups, it is necessary that, when allocating resources to processes, decisions are made based on agreements regarding access to resources; decisions may be related to the performance of a certain activity that requires or not the synchronization of processes, requiring the use of shared resources in the mode of mutual exclusion. Thus, the following question arises: What are the decision models and aggregation operators that will have to be generated by incorporating the global cognitive perspective to the classical models to make more intelligent decision making in the management of resources and groups of processes taking into account self-regulation? How will the algorithms of the different decision models be implemented? How to validate the new proposed algorithms by comparing them with each other and with traditional algorithms? For this, it is necessary to have a simulator that implements the traditional and the new proposed algorithms and allows to observe their behavior and results under different types of workloads. Classical models are considered for accessing shared resources in the mutual exclusion mode using critical regions to the centralized algorithm, the distributed algorithm of Lamport, Ricart and Agrawala, the token ring algorithm, among others. A prototype simulator is presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed new decision models and aggregation operators against the main traditional models.

Les combinaisons booléennes utilisées sont (Mutuelle communautaire) AND (Nutrition) ((Sécurité alimentaire) OR (sécurité nutritionnelle)) AND ((Afrique) OR (Mutuelle santé) AND/OR (Enfant). This study looked at the scientific findings concerning the contribution of community mutuals to the food and nutritional security of children in Africa and especially in Benin. It has set itself the objective of systematically reviewing scientific journals directly or indirectly related to the study theme. To do this, the main digital databases consulted are AGORA, GoogleScholar, Pubmed and Scopus. Agora made it possible to constitute the database of scientific journals for statistical processing. The Boolean combinations used are (Community mutual) AND ((Food security) OR (nutritional security)) AND ((Africa) OR (Health mutual) AND / OR (Child). A total of 1213 articles were listed on the server. After inclusion of the exclusion criteria, 321 articles were directly or indirectly related to our research topic. All in all, after reading the abstracts and / or text, 34 articles are directly related to the research topic of 33 journal articles and 01 book chapter. Analysis of the data revealed that the majority of articles were published between 2000 and 2021. In addition, from the point of view of the fields of study covered, the treatment of the information collected showed that the fields which registered more publication are: public health, medicine, economics, sociology, education, political science and literature. However, it is important to notify that of the 1213 articles identified, only 37 articles dealt with the contribution of mutual health organizations to food and nutritional security for children in Africa once the interest of this study. At the end of this review, it appears that the mutuals, basing themselves more on criteria such as solidarity and democratic participation, play a significant role in the well-being of the populations. It should also be noted that these mutuals have a lot of shortcomings that need to be corrected to make them even more efficient.

The procedure for eliminating contradictions in evidence, as noted in the article, is directly related to the substantiation of the court's conclusions in the verdict and, in general, to the peculiarities of judicial knowledge. The author addresses the problem of comparability of evidence in a criminal case and points out that in criminal proceedings there are situations of inconsistency of information in which individual contradictions in the evidence examined do not entail their mutual exclusion. It is noted that working with contradictions in the evidence shows the true ability of the law enforcer to think analytically.

This article aims to highlight Islamic exclusivism in the form of popular Islamic novelS for children’s reading books in Indonesia after the reform of 1998. Building on the media theory of Gill Branston and Roy Stafford, this study explains Islamic pop novels as Islamic educational materials from a semiotic approach, structuralism, and critical discourse analysis. In particular, this study uses qualitative research methods by descriptively analyzing the reading of Islamic pop novels spreading in the Qur’anic Education Centre in Central Java. The results showed that since the Reformation, the movement used books, newsletters, magazines, and children’s readings of Islamic pop novels to shape the religious thoughts of urban Muslim children and youth in Indonesia. There is hardly a story related to diversity, the value of tolerance, and mutual respect between religious people in those materials. The awareness of religious comprehension in children's reading seems exclusive. It must be realized by various parties that the media utilizing Islamic literature is very influential on the growth and development of children's religious thinking in the educational space in the metropolis.

This research focuses on efforts to form a Palestinian Unity Government after the 2017 Cairo Agreement during the 2017-2020 period. The concept used in the analysis is the concept of transitional justice, which is closely related to the issue of human rights. This study uses a descriptive-analytic method to examine variables relevant to the research objectives. The results of this study indicate that among the obstacles to establishing a Palestinian Unity Government is the incomplete accountability for human rights violations committed by the two groups against each other, the existence of mutual distrust of one another, and the exclusion of other factions from the reconciliation efforts.

Incidents of prejudice and discrimination in K–12 schools have increased over the past decade around the world, including the United States. In 2018, more than two-thirds of the 2,776 U.S. educators surveyed reported witnessing a hate or bias incident in their school. Children and adolescents who experience prejudice, social exclusion, and discrimination are subject to compromised well-being and low academic achievement. Few educators feel prepared to incorporate this topic into the education curriculum. Given the long-term harm related to experiencing social exclusion and discrimination, school districts need to create positive school environments and directly address prejudice and bias. Several factors are currently undermining progress in this area. First, national debates in the United States and other countries have politicized the topic of creating fair and just school environments. Second, the COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted children's and adolescents’ education by halting academic progress which has particularly negatively affected students from marginalized and ethnic/racial minority backgrounds. Third, teachers have experienced significant stress during COVID-19 with an increase in anxiety around virtual instruction and communication with parents. Three strategies recommended to address these converging problems include creating inclusive and nondiscriminatory policies for schools, promoting opportunities for intergroup contact and mutual respect, and implementing evidence-based, developmentally appropriate education programs. It is anticipated that these strategies will help to reduce prejudice, increase ethnic and racial identity (ERI), and promote equity, fairness, and justice in school environments.

Abscisic acid (ABA) is an essential hormone for plants to survive environmental stresses. At the center of the ABA signaling network is a subfamily of type 2C protein phosphatases (PP2Cs), which form exclusive interactions with ABA receptors and subfamily 2 Snfl-related kinase (SnRK2s). Here, we report a SnRK2-PP2C complex structure, which reveals marked similarity in PP2C recognition by SnRK2 and ABA receptors. In the complex, the kinase activation loop docks into the active site of PP2C, while the conserved ABA-sensing tryptophan of PP2C inserts into the kinase catalytic cleft, thus mimicking receptor-PP2C interactions. These structural results provide a simple mechanism that directly couples ABA binding to SnRK2 kinase activation and highlight a new paradigm of kinase-phosphatase regulation through mutual packing of their catalytic sites.

Abstract The theoretical pedagogue as a homo clausus The contributions to Theoretische Pedagogiek (‘Theoretical pedagogy’, eds. B. Spiecker and B. Levering, 1982) predominantly concern the question how theoretical pedagogy contributes to academic pedagogy, and the related question what characterizes this discipline. Some authors defend a specific method, sometimes as attuned to the specific nature of the pedagogical research subject. For example, phenomenological analysis, conceptual analysis, and empirical research pass review. Though each author substantiates the potential contribution of his or her chosen method, (s)he also introduces this method as disqualifying other methods. That does not only leave academic pedagogy a fragmented discipline, it also overstretches the justifiable pretensions of each method, impeding mutual enrichment of these methods at the same time. Other authors contribute by trying to ground the discipline and its methods in purported unique anthropological characteristics of pedagogical phenomena. However, they cannot solve the problems either, because they leave us again with mutually exclusive approaches and a fragmented discipline. It even becomes questionable whether we can speak of ‘one’ discipline at all, as subsequent authors keep writing as a ‘homo clausus’, culminating in the seeming incompatibility of pedagogy as a behavioral science versus pedagogy as a social science. After reading this collection, one wonders whether a more question-guided, interdisciplinary approach, open to mutual enrichment of various methods would not better serve the discipline.

Abstract This study focuses on the new procedure of electronic deliveries in administrative jurisdictional proceedings, as regulated by the provisions of the Code of Administrative Procedure. The primary research objective was to describe de lege lata the modes of individual deliveries, indicating their mutual hierarchy, while also addressing several issues related to the relationship between the Code and the Act on Electronic Deliveries. Both normative acts necessitate co-existence, and thus determining which of them and in which situational variants will be qualified as lex generali. This task is by no means facilitated by the fact that the characteristics of the framework regulation can be found in the Code, while the Act “model” regulates the rules of communication involving public entities. The main thesis presented in the study underscores the need for a systemic interpretation of the provisions of the latter Act. The author also believes that the definition of the scope of exclusions from the application of the Act was not designed appropriately. The issues raised have not been the subject of articles thus far.

Two large-bodied newt species, Triturus ivanbureschi and T. macedonicus, hybridize in nature across the Balkan Peninsula. Consequences of hybridization upon secondary contact of two species include species displacement and asymmetrical introgression of T. ivanbureschi mtDNA. We set an experimental reciprocal cross of parental species and obtained two genotypes of F1 hybrids (with T. ivanbureschi or T. macedonicus mtDNA). When hybrids attained sexual maturity, they were engaged in mutual crossings and backcrossing with parental species. We followed reproductive traits over two successive years. Our main aim was to explore the reproductive success of F1 females carrying different parental mtDNA. Additionally, we tested for differences in reproductive success within female genotypes depending on the crossing with various male genotypes (hybrids or parental species). Both female genotypes had similar oviposition periods, number of laid eggs and hatched larvae but different body and egg sizes. Overall reproductive success (percentage of egg-laying females and viability of embryos) was similar for both genotypes. The type of crossing led to some differences in reproductive success within female genotypes. The obtained results suggest that processes that led to exclusion of T. macedonicus mtDNA in natural populations may be related to the survival at postembryonic stages of F2 generation or reproductive barriers that emerged in subsequent hybrid generations.

Abstract It can be observed that changing attitude towards the environment and fellow human beings manifests itself as a socially unsustainable relationship, which in different ways and at different levels manifests itself in social exclusion. Social exclusion is increasingly emerging as a phenomenon that is complex in nature and its solutions must be sought in the wicked problem approach, which is characteristic of complex problems and has significant ontological roots. At present, ontology should consider the much more complicated problem of what types of being are formed by both the natural and the cultural evolutionary processes. It can be argued that evolutionary ontology attempts to create a new image of the world and of humans – a new non-anthropocentric cosmology, i.e., a consistently philosophical culturological cosmology that takes into account reality in its real structure as a conflict between the spontaneous activity of nature and the socio-cultural activity of humans (Šmajs, 2008, p. 96). The reasons for social exclusion can be different, and its specific manifestations are various, and the same can be said about the phenomenon of social inclusion, which is the expression of the quality of other relationships and attitudes. Externally observable signs of social exclusion are more closely related to the concept of families at risk. A social risk family can be defined as a family that experiences difficult problems and has limited opportunities to provide favorable living conditions for the comprehensive development of all family members. More and more often it is associated with unsustainable cultural or non-cultural contexts, mainly related to non-ecological culture prosperity in the consumer society. It can be noted that this context in its current form (which includes manufacturing, consumption, material culture, and technology, and both the social, intellectual, and material life of humans) is quite anti-natural oriented in its principle. Unfortunately, the aggressive anti-natural sociocultural strategy permeated also the field of human upbringing and education (Šmajs, 2008, p. 194). At the beginning of the 21st century, it has emerged as the Anthropocene era in a broader sense, in which the geological characterization of the era is complemented by the characterization of the sustainability of public relations in a broader holistic perspective. The aim of the article is to consider a number of real cases in a broader perspective from the point of view of foster family pedagogy, identify the choice of foster care approaches and evaluate the results obtained. From the perspective of foster family pedagogy, foster parents and foster children are participants in the lifelong learning process, where the mutual influence and interaction of foster parents and foster children are studied. The authors evaluated real situations from the perspective of foster family pedagogy and children’s involvement in the family structure. The article also examines the influence of the foster family and its readiness to overcome the effects of Anthropocene unsustainability.

Abstract Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of tumor-associated death worldwide, owing to its high 5-year postoperative recurrence rate and heterogeneity. Although Molecular profiling has been used to predict prognosis and guide targeted therapy, obtaining liver tissue biopsies was still a clinical challenge of advanced HCC patients. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) testing as a novel and convenient detecting techniques, which can revealed comprehensive information regarding to tumor genome profiles. The purpose of the study was to analyze and compare the genomic landscape characteristics of tumor tissue and ctDNA in Chinese HCC. Methods: 187 tumor tissue samples and 293 plasma samples from patients with HCC were collected from Nanfang hospital and 3DMed cohort, respectively. Next generation sequencing (NGS) assay (381/733 genes panel) was performed on tumor and plasma samples to capture tumor somatic single-nucleotide variants (SNVs). The gene variants information was summarized, analyzed and visualize using the maftools R package (Mayakonda et al. 2018.). Results: In total, DNA alterations were detected in 93.86% (275/293) plasma samples and 90.91% (170/187) in tumor samples, which variant levels included pathogenic, likely pathogenic and variant of uncertain significance. The most commonly altered genes in ctDNA results were TP53 (52%), TERT (24%), LRP1B (22%), FAT1 (15%), CTNNB1 (14%). While in HCC tumor testing results were TP53 (55%), TERT (27%), CTNNB1 (17%), SPTA1 (14%) and ARID1A (12%). Both the most variant classification was missense, next were frameshift indel. Both the top five affected pathways were TP53, RTK-RAS, NOTCH, WNT and Cell Cycle. In WNT pathway related genes, the highest alteration frequency tumor oncogene was CTNNB1, and suppressor gene was APC. We analyzed mutually exclusive and co-occurring event on top 25 mutated genes. In ctDNA analysis results, the probability of co-mutation between LRP1B and KMT2A gene was the highest (p < 0.001), while mutual exclusion between ARID1A and EGFR gene was the highest. Conclusion: Circulating tumor DNA mutation detection in HCC is feasible in the absence of HCC tissue DNA. The analysis results revealed the genomic landscape characteristics of blood-derived ctDNA in HCC were consistent with tumor tissues, which can provided HCC potential prognosis and treatment related genes information to further study. The computer screen represents a very important new and rich element as “Skype” seems to have been the most used remote support. The screen plays a filter and separation function but physically represents the related presence in a shared timeframe. It is also a “mutual mirror”, reflecting the exclusive duality and resending to “different” space and time where the therapeutic relationship acts.ResultsIn this way the “analysis room” loses its physical feature to move towards a new dimension where the subjective experience are communicated/lived/re-elaborated by the mean of shared visual, modifyng the codified space of a traditional setting.ConclusionsThe screen is not only a mere vehicle of verbal communication, but fully gets in “hic et nunc” in space relationship assuming however an allegoric value, that, in the individual subjective, could go really beyond its “simple” and usual technological function.

Abstract Objective: We investigated the effects of photodynamic therapy (PDT) combined with low-dose chemotherapy on breast cancer cells. Photodynamic treatment was administered by irradiating indocyanine green-preloaded MCF-7 cells with an IR diode laser source at 805 nm; cisplatin was used for chemotherapy. Methods: The dose-response phenomena associated with the two treatments administered individually and together were evaluated with the following tests: trypan blue dye exclusion, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, clonogenic survival, thymidine and methionine incorporation, and insulin-dependent and insulin-independent glucose transport. Results: Viability and metabolic data demonstrated mutual reinforcement of therapeutic efficacy. However, isobolographic analysis of quantal and variable data indicated that reinforcement was additive according to trypan blue data and synergistic according to MTT data. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying alterations in cell proliferation and apoptosis, we evaluated (by Western blotting) the expression of proteins Bcl-2, Bax, Bcl-XL, p21, p53, and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase. Photodynamic treatment caused transient selective destruction of Bcl-2 and up-regulation of Bax. It also induced apoptosis in a limited fraction of cells (10–12%). Flow cytometry data showed that PDT killed mostly G1-phase cells, whereas cisplatin killed mostly S-phase cells. This disjointed phase-related effect may account for the favorable effects exerted by combined treatment. Conclusions: Our findings imply that low doses of cytostatic drugs may be as effective or even more effective than currently used doses if appropriately combined with PDT.

Abstract Background Rhabdoid tumors (RTs) arise within (atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor [AT/RT]) or outside the brain (extra [e]CNS-RT) and are driven mainly by inactivation of the SWItch/sucrose nonfermentable (SWI/SNF) complex subunit SWI/SNF-related matrix-associated actin-dependent regulator of chromatin subfamily B member 1 (SMARCB1). A pathognomonic hallmark of RTs is heterogeneous multilineage differentiation, including anomalous neuronal differentiation in some eCNS-RTs. Because remodeling of the SWI/SNF complex regulates differentiation, we hypothesized that SWI/SNF Brahma-associated factors (BAF) and polybromo-associated BAF (PBAF) complex heterogeneity are related to both multilineage differentiation and clinical outcome. Methods We performed an integrated analysis of SWI/SNF complex alterations in the developing kidney and cerebellum (most common regions of RT origin) in comparison to eCNS-RT (n = 14) and AT/RT (n = 25) tumors. RT samples were interrogated using immunohistochemistry, DNA methylation, and gene expression analyses. Results The SWI/SNF BAF paralogs actin-like protein (ACTL)6A and ACTL6B were expressed in a mutually exclusive manner in the developing cerebellum and kidney. In contrast, a subset of eCNS-RTs lost mutual exclusivity and coexpressed both subunits. These tumors showed aberrant DNA methylation of genes that regulate neuronal and renal development and demonstrated immunohistochemical evidence of neuronal differentiation. In addition, low expression of the PBAF subunit polybromo-1 (PBRM1) identified a group of AT/RTs in younger children with better overall prognosis. PBRM1-low AT/RT and eCNS-RTs showed altered DNA methylation and gene expression in immune-related genes. PBRM1 knockdown resulted in lowering immunosuppressive cytokines, and PBRM1 levels in tumor samples showed an inverse relationship with cluster of differentiation (CD)8 cytotoxic T-cell infiltration. Conclusions Heterogeneity in SWI/SNF BAF (ACTL6A/ACTL6B) and PBAF (PBRM1) subunits is related to histogenesis, contributes to the immune microenvironment and prognosis in RTs, and may inform opportunities to develop immunotherapies.

West Cilebut Villages has been the target of investors and developers of housing since the 1990s, and now the West Cilebut Villages has changed from an area full of green “romantic” village, into the region filled with concrete. Therefore, this study was conducted to answer fundamental issues related to the issue of land conversion in the West Cilebut Village, first is to see the map and interests between actors in relation to land conversion in the West Cilebut Village, and second to know the social interactions dynamics that occur in West Cilebut community, following the land conversion from the farm into housing estates. The results showed that there are three main actors in relation to issues of land use change in West Cilebut Village: (1) The Housing Developer; (2) Village Apparatus / Government; (3) Society; where the three actors have a role and importance of different orientations. Meanwhile, social interaction between housing and rural communities basically shows a relationship of mutual need. Construction of housing community that luxurious and exclusive slowly turns into inclusive and reflect a resiprocity of the two communities.

Abstract Aberrant DNA methylation plays an important role in cancer progression. However, no resource has been available that comprehensively provides DNA methylation-based diagnostic and prognostic models, expression–methylation quantitative trait loci (emQTL), pathway activity-methylation quantitative trait loci (pathway-meQTL), differentially variable and differentially methylated CpGs, and survival analysis, as well as functional epigenetic modules for different cancers. These provide valuable information for researchers to explore DNA methylation profiles from different aspects in cancer. To this end, we constructed a user-friendly database named DNA Methylation Interactive Visualization Database (DNMIVD), which comprehensively provides the following important resources: (i) diagnostic and prognostic models based on DNA methylation for multiple cancer types of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA); (ii) meQTL, emQTL and pathway-meQTL for diverse cancers; (iii) Functional Epigenetic Modules (FEM) constructed from Protein-Protein Interactions (PPI) and Co-Occurrence and Mutual Exclusive (COME) network by integrating DNA methylation and gene expression data of TCGA cancers; (iv) differentially variable and differentially methylated CpGs and differentially methylated genes as well as related enhancer information; (v) correlations between methylation of gene promoter and corresponding gene expression and (vi) patient survival-associated CpGs and genes with different endpoints. DNMIVD is freely available at http://www.unimd.org/dnmivd/. We believe that DNMIVD can facilitate research of diverse cancers.

Industries like telecommunications, medical, automotive, military, avionics, and aerospace use complex real-time systems. Specification and Description Language (SDL) is one of the leading domain specific languages that is formally defined by international standards and well established in describing such systems. To check system properties abstracted model of the system is prepared in selected modeling language. We use Spin (Simple Promela Interpreter) model checker that is one of the leading tools for verification of complex concurrent and reactive systems. This paper focuses on modeling the SDL timer construct. It is one of the SDL constructs that is not easily modeled with Promela, but is present in many SDL systems. After an overview of the related work we propose a new Discrete Time Model for Promela (DTMP) that is seamlessly integrated in our framework for modeling SDL systems and can be used with the mainstream version of the Spin tool. To the best of our knowledge, this is not possible with the existing solutions. We describe how DTMP can be used to model SDL systems that use timers. Experimental results demonstrate its applicability to non-SDL systems with Fischer’s mutual exclusion protocol and the Parallel Acknowledgment with Retransmission that were used in prior studies. We compare state-space requirements with one of the existing solutions DT Promela and DT Spin. With that, virtues and shortcomings of this high-level solution are exposed. We have shown that DTMP is effective when an extensive range of timer expiration values are used, which is usually the case in real-life SDL systems.

Abstract The elucidation of epigenetic responses of salt-responsive genes facilitates understanding of the underlying mechanisms that confer salt tolerance in rice. However, it is still largely unknown how epigenetic mechanisms are associated with the expression of salt-responsive genes in rice and other crops. In this study, we reported tissue-specific gene expression and tissue-specific changes in chromatin modifications or signatures between seedlings and roots in response to salt treatment. Our study indicated that among six of individual mark examined (H3K4me3, H3K27me3, H4K12ac, H3K9ac, H3K27ac and H3K36me3), a positive association between salt-related changes in histone marks and the expression of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was observed only for H3K9ac and H4K12ac in seedlings and H3K36me3 in roots. In contrast, chromatin states (CSs) with combinations of six histone modification marks played crucial roles in the differential expression of salt-responsive genes between seedlings and roots. Most importantly, CS7 containing the bivalent marks H3K4me3 and H3K27me3, with a mutual exclusion of functions with each other, displayed distinct functions in the expression of DEGs in both tissues. Specifically, H3K27me3 in CS7 mainly suppressed the expression of DEGs in roots, while H3K4me3 affected the expression of down- and up-regulated genes, possibly by antagonizing the repressive role of H3K27me3 in seedlings. Our findings indicate distinct impacts of the CSs on the differential expression of salt-responsive genes between seedlings and roots in rice, which provides an important background for understanding chromatin-based epigenetic mechanisms that might confer salt tolerance in plants.

Cognitive–behavioral family therapy (CBFT) is used for a wide range of psychological and physical problems in integration with different treatment protocols. Effectiveness of CBFT research studies on the control group are limited in literature, even though this treatment is used frequently. Although various studies highlighted the effectiveness of CBFT, no systematic reviews were conducted. The study aims to review randomized controlled trials on CBFT. The study used keywords to identify 402 related articles in commonly used psychology databases (ULAKBİM, American Psychological Association, Psychology Database, Web of Science, Medline, and Scopus). The PRISMA diagram was used for analysis. Studies assessed with control groups were included without a historical limitation. The articles were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Fourteen articles were evaluated in terms of sample characteristics, content, application methods, characteristics of control and comparison groups, assessment tools, and findings. The results indicated that CBFT is especially more effective than individual CBT, psychoeducation or waitlist for various issues, such as anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, pediatric bipolar disorder, substance use disorder, anorexia nervosa and chronic physical problems. The study inferred that CBFT can be used to improve mutual interaction between mental or physical problems with family. In other words, CBFT can be used to improve the effect of disorders experienced by one member on the family and the effect of the family on the disorders. In this manner, the risk of relapse can be reduced in the treatment of certain disorders. Therefore, the study suggests that CBFT should be used increasingly and that this field warrants further research.

Abstract Chromosomal translocations involving t(14;18)(q32;q21) and the chromosome 3q27 region are common in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma of germinal center cell origin. Grade 3B follicular lymphoma (FL), consisting almost exclusively of centroblasts, is a distinct subgroup of follicular lymphomas that has more in common clinically with the aggressive diffuse large B-cell lymphomas than with their indolent FL grade 1 and 2 counterparts. We studied the cytogenetic and molecular genetic aberrations by classic cytogenetics, polymerase chain reaction, Southern blot hybridization, and fluorescence in situ hybridization, with special emphasis on t(14;18), affecting bcl-2, and 3q27 rearrangement, affecting bcl-6, in 32 cases of FL grade 3B. Three distinctive subgroups were identified based upon the existence of breakpoint 3q27, a translocation t(14;18), or the absence of both. Group I involved a t(14;18) and no 3q27 aberrations (n = 13); group II was without a t(14;18) and without 3q27 aberrations (n = 9), but had other cytogenetic aberrations; and group III was without a t(14;18) but with aberrations involving 3q27 (n = 10). None of the FL grade 3B cases harbored both a t(14;18) and 3q27 aberration. These results, in particular the finding of a mutual exclusiveness of bcl-2 and bcl-6 rearrangement, indicate at least 3 different pathways of oncogenesis in FL grade 3B. FL grade 3B with bcl-2 rearrangement probably is part of the same entity as the other follicular lymphomas (1, 2, 3A), whereas the cases with 3q27 abnormalities or other unrelated translocations are more closely related to the majority of diffuse large-cell lymphomas of germinal center cell origin.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify and develop the relationships among the green supply chain management enablers (GSCMEs), to understand mutual influences of these GSCMEs on green supply chain management (GSCM) implementation, and to find out the driving and the dependence power of GSCMEs. Design/methodology/approach This paper has identified 35 GSCMEs on the basis of literature review and the opinions of experts from academia and industry. A nationwide questionnaire-based survey has been conducted to rank these identified GSCMEs. The outcomes of the survey and interpretive structural modeling (ISM) methodology have been applied to evolve mutual relationships among GSCMEs, which helps to reveal the direct and indirect effects of each GSCMEs. The results of the ISM are used as an input to the fuzzy Matriced’ Impacts Croisés Multiplication Appliquéeá un Classement (MICMAC) analysis, to identify the driving and the dependence power of GSCMEs. Findings Out of 35 GSCMEs 29 GSCMEs (mean⩾3.00) have been considered for analysis through a nationwide questionnaire-based survey on Indian automobile organizations. The integrated approach is developed, since the ISM model provides only binary relationship among GSCMEs, while fuzzy MICMAC analysis provides precise analysis related to driving and the dependence power of GSCMEs. Research limitations/implications The weightage for ISM model development and fuzzy MICMAC are obtained through the judgment of few industry experts. It is the only subjective judgment and any biasing by the person who is judging might influence the final result. Practical implications The study provides important guidelines for both practitioners, as well as the academicians. The practitioners need to focus on these GSCMEs more carefully during GSCM implementation. GSCM managers may strategically plan its long-term growth to meet GSCM action plan. While the academicians may be encouraged to categorize different issues, which are significant in addressing these GSCMEs. Originality/value Arrangement of GSCMEs in a hierarchy, the categorization into the driver and dependent categories, and fuzzy MICMAC are an exclusive effort in the area of GSCM implementation.

Abstract Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children. Embryonal brain tumors including medulloblastoma and atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors (ATRTs) account for 15% of all primary brain and CNS tumors under the age of 14 years, with ATRTs being most prevalent in infants. Despite intensive research efforts, survival estimates for ATRT patients stay relatively low as compared to other tumor entities with a median survival of around 17 months. We here describe genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout screens in combination with small-molecule drug assays to identify targetable vulnerabilities in ATRTs. Based on functional genomic screening revealing ATRT context-specific genetic vulnerabilities (n = 671 genes), we successfully generated a small-molecule library that shows preferential activity in ATRT cells as compared to a broad selection of other human cancer cell lines. Of note, none of these drugs differentially affect ATRT cells from distinct molecular subgroups, suggesting that top candidate inhibitors might serve as pan-ATRT therapeutic avenues. CDK4/6 inhibitors, among the most potent drugs in our library, are capable of inhibiting tumor growth due to mutual exclusive dependency of ATRTs on either CDK4 or CDK6. Our approach might serve as a blueprint for fostering the identification of functionally-instructed therapeutic strategies in other incurable diseases beyond ATRT, whose genomic profiles also lack actionable alterations so far.

The stage of world civilization, into which humankind entered and within which it is developing today, was called the information society, then the knowledge society. Today, more and more people are talking about digital civilization. Of course, there are differences between information and knowledge, and digitalization speaks not about the information itself but about the ways of encoding it. However, it must be admitted that all these names are essentially related to one phenomenon. The point is that the production, dissemination, and use of knowledge (and it is, of course, information, although not every information is knowledge) began to play a new and exclusive role in all forms of human life. The author has analyzed three types of relations between philosophical and scientific study of cognition and mind: 1. Philosophy ignores the results of cognitive disciplines, as it deals with meanings and norms of cognition in distinction from cognitive sciences which study the mechanisms of cognitive processes; 2. Philosophy is considered as a general part of cognitive science: “naturalization” of philosophy; 3. Philosophy and cognitive sciences are in a constant dialogue which presupposes cross-fertilization and mutual criticism. Philosophy holds its normative role, as it analyzes the presuppositions of conceptions in cognitive sciences and evaluates them. The author argues the thesis that it is the third type of such relations that is the most fruitful.

Streszczenie:
Background: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis require essential self-management to lifestyle changes to minimize the risk of complications, morbidity, and mortality. Efforts made to improve self-management of hemodialysis patients in previous studies were carried out by health workers that may not provide 'real' knowledge, while peer support programs carried out by patients as peers to share their experiences may provide more benefits.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of peer support programs on improving self-management in patients with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design and involved a total of 33 patients in the control group and 32 patients in the intervention group, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The samples were recruited consecutively. The intervention of peer support programs was implemented through information support, emotional support, and mutual reciprocity in groups of 10-12 people to share experiences related to their self-management. The intervention was given for six sessions; each lasted for 30-45 minutes. The data were collected using the Indonesian version of the hemodialysis self-management instrument (HDSMI) and analyzed using a paired-sample t-test and independent-sample t-test.Results: The results showed that after the intervention, the mean score of self-management in the intervention group increased from 79.47±7.919 to 90.75±7.089, and in the control group, the mean increased from 81.88±8.291 to 82.12±7.692. After the implementation of peer support programs, there was a significant difference in the score of self-management between the intervention and control groups (p<0.001).Conclusion: Peer support programs gave an effect on increasing self-management in patients with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis. Peer support programs should be introduced early to ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis so that they can learn about self-management from other patients.

This study tests the trade-off and pecking order hypotheses of corporate financing decisions and estimates the speed of adjustment toward target leverage using a cross-section of 42 manufacturing, 24 mining and 21 retail firms listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) for the period 2000-2010. It uses the generalised least squares (GLS) random effects, maximum likelihood (ML) random effects, fixed effects, time series regression, Arellano and Bond (1991), Blundell and Bond (1998) and random effects Tobit estimators to fit the two versions of the partial adjustment models. The study finds that leverage is positively correlated to profitability and this supports the trade-off theory. The trade-off theory is further supported by the negative correlation on non-debt tax shields. Consistent with the pecking order theory, capital expenditure and growth rate are positively correlated to leverage while asset tangibility is inversely related to leverage. The negative correlation on financial distress and the positive correlation on dividends paid support both the pecking order and trade-off theories. These results are consistent with the view that the pecking order and trade-off theories are non-mutual exclusive in explaining the financing decisions of firms. The results also show that South African manufacturing, mining and retail firms do have target leverage ratios and the true speed of adjustment towards target leverage is 57.64% for book-to-debt ratio and 42.44% for market-to-debt ratio.

While there are Muslims who hold that the two identities Muslim and homosexual are mutually exclusive and that it is illegal to practise homosexual acts, the ongoing Muslim revisionist movement seems to provide a more understanding approach. Members of this movement argue that although the act of homosexuality is mentioned in the Qur’ān, this term is not inherently similar to the contemporary understanding of homosexuality based on love (mawaddah) and mutual consent. This paper provides a comprehensive understanding of theological, historical and sociological discourses to demonstrate some of the challenges facing contemporary sexual ethics in relation to Muslim homosexuality and its relationship to power (religious, patriarchal and neo-colonialist). It argues that conservative and centrist scholars have always presented homosexuality based on cis-hetero morality standards, but not from a deep understanding of the Qur’ān and the Hadith. It also argues that from a conservative view, homosexuality has never been addressed from either a medical/psychological (essentialism) or a social constructivist perspective, thereby further denying the existence of men who are not attracted to females as explained in the Qur’ān (24:31). On a historical level, this paper offers a discussion of legal, social and political genealogies of the history of same-sex attraction among Muslims by addressing relevant questions related to pre-colonial and post-colonial legacies. This paper then considers sociological and scientific approaches (constructivism and essentialism theories) that explain a place for same-sex unions in Islam.

Highly sensitive information about people’s social life and daily activities flows in smart home networks. As such, if attackers can manage to capture or even eavesdrop on this information, the privacy of the users can be compromised. The consequences can be far-reaching, such as knowing the status of home occupancy that can then facilitate burglary. To address these challenges, approaches such as data aggregation and signcryption have been utilized. Elliptic curve cryptography, bilinear pairing, asymmetric key cryptosystem, blockchain, and exponential operations are among the most popular techniques deployed to design these security solutions. However, the computational, storage and communication complexities exhibited by the majority of these techniques are too high. This renders these techniques unsuitable for smart home components such as smart switches and sensors. Some of these schemes have centralized architectures, which present some single points of failure. In this paper, symmetric key authentication procedures are presented for smart home networks. The proposed protocol leverages on cryptographic primitives such as one-way hashing and bitwise exclusive-Or operations. The results indicate that this scheme incurs the lowest communication, storage, and computation costs compared to other related state-of-the-art techniques. Empirically, our protocol reduces the communication and computation complexities by 16.7% and 57.7%, respectively. In addition, it provides backward key secrecy, robust mutual authentication, anonymity, forward key secrecy, and unlinkability. Moreover, it can effectively prevent attacks such as impersonation, session hijacking, denial of service, packet replays, man-in-the-middle, and message eavesdropping.

The formation of national integrity in the international circuit is essential for a state. National integrity can be seen by fixed territory where a state can exercise their sovereignty in certain area portrayed by a fix border with neighboring countries both in the land and sea. The Philippines has been claimed over its territory based on the Treaty of Paris as the result of the Spanish American war that ceded the sovereignty over the archipelago of the Philippines to the United State. With respect to its history, the Philippines faced the dilemma whether or not it should redefine its baseline law in accordance with the UNLOS provisions. This dilemma then leads to unclear territorial boundary with its neighboring country-- Indonesia.Hence, this article aims to analyze the Philippines-Indonesia maritime border dispute in the Exclusive Economic Zone from Celebes to Mindanao sea. Using the neoliberalism perspective, the authors analyzed the interest of the Philippines to establish cooperation with Indonesia related to the national territory of each country, each legislation, maritime zones, and exercise of sovereignty over disputes maritime territories. Meanwhile, co-operative maritime diplomacy also used to determine the Philippines action in the form of bilateral cooperation, joint exercise on maritime security and regional cooperation to secure the Philippines and Indonesia maritime areas. On behalf of common interest, both countries succeed in maintaining their relations to achieve mutual goals regardless of boundaries. Furthermore, the foreign policy theory will also play an intervening role to explain the regulation about the dispute settlement efforts of delimitation boundary between the Philippines and Indonesia.

Abstract Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children, and atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors (ATRTs) are among the most common aggressive brain tumors in infants. With no standard-of-care treatment so far, ATRTs continue to have relatively low survival estimates, illustrating the urgent need for more efficacious treatment options. We have previously used genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout screens in combination with small-molecule drug assays to identify targetable vulnerabilities in ATRTs. CDK4/6 inhibitors, among the most promising drugs in our study with direct translational potential, are capable of inhibiting tumor growth due to mutual exclusive dependency of ATRTs on either CDK4 or CDK6. We here used genome-wide loss-of-function and gain-of-function strategies to identify modulators of response to CDK4/6 inhibition in ATRTs. Of note, while some well-known resistance mechanisms such as loss of RB1 or FBXW7 are shared by ATRT cell lines, we have also identified modulators of response to CDK4/6 inhibition with opposing effects across ATRT cell lines. As such, loss of AMBRA1, a recently described master regulator of D type cyclins, can either oppose the effects of or synergize with CDK4/6 inhibitors based on the cellular background. We are currently using a proteomics approach to further delineate the mechanism driving this functional heterogeneity of AMBRA1 in ATRTs. Our study will therefore provide deeper insights into the response of ATRTs to CDK4/6 inhibitors, which represent one of the most promising class of targeted agents for the treatment of ATRTs.

The article analyses a social dimension of inclusive education – interpersonal relations of SEN primary learners with other pupils in the class and pedagogical strategies that target at development of school learners’ positive interpersonal relations. The researchers have distinguished four most important aspects of the social dimension in inclusive education (Koster et al., 2009; De Boer, Pijl, & Minnaert, 2010; Bossaert et al., 2013): a) friendship relations between SEN learners and other schoolchildren in the class (mutual friendship links, subgroups of learners linked by friendship); b) social interaction of SEN school children with peers (joint leisure activities, completion of assignments together, joint participation in activities); c) subjective feelings of SEN learners and their belief that they are accepted by other learners in the class; d) acceptance of SEN learners in the class (social preferences of peers and social support). The researchers also single out and indicate the barriers in building up positive relations of SEN learners with other school learners related with the abovementioned aspects: social isolation, loneliness, social exclusion and bullying. The article sets the following objectives: a) to identify peculiarities of development of SEN learners’ positive relations with other learners; b) to single out pedagogical strategies oriented towards development of positive interpersonal relations of SEN learners with other schoolchildren. The article presents the results of the qualitative research. The following aspects of development of such learners’ positive interpersonal relations are revealed: a) natural acceptance of SEN learners’ otherness seeing transformability of their abilities to communicate and learn; b) inclusion of SEN learners into interpersonal communication based on experience of social similarity and tolerance to the diversity. Such processes are encouraged by the teacher’s belief in transformability of SEN learners’ powers and demonstration of this belief in the classroom. Inclusion of SEN learners into interpersonal communication is enhanced by encouragement of social interactions between SEN children and other class learners in the natural school environment: creation of communication rituals, situations, practices and spaces, initiation of acceptance, mediation and assistance to SEN learners.

BackgroundBipedal locomotor control requirements may be useful as classifications for walking dysfunction because they go beyond gait analysis to address all issues contributing to walking dysfunction.ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to determine whether locomotor experts could achieve consensus about the requirements for bipedal locomotion.Design and MethodsLocomotor experts from physical therapy and other related professions participated in an electronic mail Delphi survey. Experts recommended additions, deletions, rewording, and merges for 15 proposed locomotor requirements in round 1. In rounds 2 and 3, panelists commented on and rated the validity, mutual exclusiveness, and understandability of each requirement. Consensus was defined a priori as: (1) 75% or more panelists agree or strongly agree that a requirement is valid, mutually exclusive, and understandable in round 3; (2) no difference between round 2 and 3 ratings with kappa coefficients ≥.60; and (3) a reduction in panelists who commented and convergence of comments between rounds 1 and 3. Content analysis and nonparametric statistics were used.ResultsFifty-eight panelists reached full consensus on 5 locomotor requirements (Initiation, Termination, Anticipatory Dynamic Balance, Multi-Task Capacity, and Walking Confidence) and partial consensus for 7 other requirements. There were no significant differences in ratings between rounds 2 and 3, and there was a decrease in the percentage of panelists who commented between rounds 1 and 3.LimitationsThe study's 6-month time frame may have contributed to panelist attrition.ConclusionsLocomotor experts achieved consensus on several bipedal locomotor requirements. With validation, these requirements can provide the framework for a clinically feasible and systematic diagnostic tool for physical therapists to categorize locomotor problems and standardize intervention for walking dysfunction.

Abstract Abstract 464 Fludarabine-refractoriness of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is due to TP53 disruption in ∼40% of refractory cases, but in a sizeable fraction of patients the molecular basis of this aggressive clinical phenotype remains unclear. Our initial findings from whole exome sequencing of fludarabine-refractory CLL led to the identification of recurrent mutations of SF3B1, a critical component of the cell spliceosome, prompting further investigations of these alterations in a large CLL panel. The study population comprised 3 clinical cohorts representative of: i) fludarabine-refractory CLL (n=59), including cases (n=11) subjected to whole exome sequencing; ii) newly diagnosed and previously untreated CLL (n=301); and iii) clonally related RS (n=33). Tumor samples were obtained: i) for fludarabine-refractory CLL, immediately before starting the treatment to which the patient eventually failed to respond; ii) for newly diagnosed and previously untreated CLL, at disease presentation. All RS studies were performed on RS diagnostic biopsies. Mutation analysis of SF3B1 was performed on genomic DNA by a combination of Sanger sequencing and targeted next generation sequencing. SF3B1 was altered in 10/59 (17%) fludarabine-refractory CLL by missense mutations (n=9) or in-frame deletions (n=1) clustering in the HEAT3, HEAT4 and HEAT5 repeats of the SF3B1 protein. Two sites that are highly conserved inter-species (codon 662 and codon 700) were recurrently mutated in 3 and 5 cases, respectively. SF3B1 mutations were monoallelic, and were predicted to be functionally significant according to the PolyPhen-2 algorithm. Mutations occurred irrespective of IGHV mutation status, CD38 expression and ZAP70 expression. At the time of fludarabine-refractoriness, SF3B1 mutations were enriched in cases harboring a normal FISH karyotype (p=.008) and distributed in a mutually exclusive fashion with TP53 disruption (mutual information I =0.0609; p=.046). By combining SF3B1 mutations with other genetic lesions enriched in chemorefractory cases (TP53 disruption, NOTCH1 mutations, ATM deletion), fludarabine-refractory CLL appeared to be characterized by multiple molecular alterations that, to some extent, are mutually exclusive. We then compared the prevalence of mutations observed at the time of fludarabine-refractoriness to that observed in other disease phases. At diagnosis, SF3B1 mutations were rare (17/301; 5%), and showed a crude association with short treatment free survival (p<.001) and overall survival (p=.011). Remarkably, 5/17 (29%) CLL mutated at diagnosis were primary fludarabine-refractory patients. In CLL investigated at diagnosis, the hotspot distribution and molecular spectrum of SF3B1 mutations, as well as their mutual relationship with other genetic lesions, were similar to those observed in fludarabine-refractory CLL. SF3B1 mutations were restricted to 2/33 (6.0%) clonally-related RS. Across the different disease phases investigated, mutations were somatically acquired in all cases (n=18) for which germline DNA was available. These data document that mutations of SF3B1, a splicing factor that is a critical component of the spliceosome; i) recurrently associate with fludarabine-refractory CLL; ii) occur at a low rate at CLL presentation; iii) play a minor role in RS transformation, corroborating the notion that CLL histologic shift is molecularly distinct from chemorefractory progression without RS transformation. The identification of SF3B1 mutations points to the involvement of splicing regulation as a novel pathogenetic mechanism in CLL. The pathogenicity of SF3B1 mutations in CLL is strongly supported by clustering of these mutations in evolutionarily conserved hotspots localized within HEAT domains, which are tandemly arranged curlicue-like structures serving as flexible scaffolding on which other components can assemble. Also, the observation that SF3B1 regulates the alternative splicing program of genes controlling cell cycle progression and apoptosis points to a potential contribution of SF3B1 mutations in modulating tumor cell proliferation and survival. In addition to pathogenetic implications, SF3B1 mutations might also provide a therapeutic target for SF3B1 inhibitors, that are currently under pre-clinical development as anti-cancer drugs. Abstract AML in the elderly has a very poor outcome. Despite advances in the characterization of molecular alterations in younger AML patients, comprehensive studies in elderly AML are still lacking to uncover their distinct underlying molecular alterations. In this project, we investigated genetic and epigenetic modifications to unravel the molecular background of this unfavorable disease. To capture a broad spectrum of relevant alterations in elderly AML, we performed genomic profiling by target enrichment of 555 candidate genes (mutated in cancer), followed by next generation sequencing on an Illumina HiSeq 1500 platform. Reads were mapped to NCBI hg19 RefSeq and SNV or INDELs were called if they were non-silent coding variations with a coverage of at least > 30x and a variant allele frequency higher than 20%. The mean coverage of the target sequence was 382±160x and 98±2% of the target sequence had a read depth of at least 30x. We applied this sequencing strategy on diagnostic bone marrow samples of 100 AML patients enrolled on the Studienallianz Leukämie (SAL) registry. This cohort was composed of patients 65 to 90 years old (median 72 years), 76% were classified as de novo AML, 19% as secondary AML, 5% as therapy-related AML. In addition, we investigated the DNA methylation profile for this cohort with an Illumina 450k methylation array to further characterize the heterogeneity of elderly AML. Overall, 817 mutations were detected in 292 of the 555 candidate genes, 80 of these genes were mutated in more than two patients. A median number of 7 genes were mutated per patient (range: 1 to 23). Several known mutations were identified with a particular high frequency: DNMT3A 33%, TET2 24%, SRSF2 23%, ASXL1 21%, RUNX1 18%, IDH1 17%, NPM1 15%, IDH2 and BCOR 10% each. We also identified novel aberrations (not previously reported in AML) that provide new insights into the specificity of this disease, including mutations in the PI3K/mTOR pathway (PIK3C2B, MTOR), DNA damage proteins (BRCA2, ERCC2, FANCC, PMS1) and histone modifiers (EP300, JARID2, NSD1, MYST3). When compared to younger AML (less than 65 years, TCGA cohort NEJM 2013), elderly AML showed significantly higher mutation rates in ASXL1 (21% vs 1%), TET2 (24% vs 7%), RUNX1 (18% vs 7%), BCOR (10% vs 1%) and BRCA2 (8% vs 0%). In addition, we found a high rate of mutations in splicing regulators affecting 38% of elderly AML patients (SRSF2 23%, U2AF1 6%, SF3B1 5%, DDX5 3%, ZRSR2 2%), similarly distributed between de novo and secondary AML. Notably, 15% of elderly AML patients had mutations in the DNA repair genes TP53, NBN, ATM, FANCA, FANCC, likely responsible for drug resistance and unfavorable outcome: patients with DNA repair mutations had a median survival of only 4 months, compared to 16 months for patients without these mutations (p=5.99e-5); variations in these DNA repair proteins predicted poor overall survival independently of the TP53 mutational status (p=0.004). To describe the molecular heterogeneity of the disease we included 152 genes (mutated in more than 1 patient) to build a reactome functional interaction network and identified 9 different network modules. The first most prominent module comprised 15 mutual exclusively mutated genes including DNMT3A and genes of the DNA repair pathway (p=0.013; purple network in figure). The second most distinct module included 12 genes also being altered in a mutually exclusive manner (p=4.9e-4): NPM1, RNA splicing and transport genes (green network in figure). Together the alterations from these two modules affected 88% of the patients and showed no significant overlap (mutual exclusivity test p=7.5e-4). These findings indicate that elderly AML is characterized by two distinct molecular patterns, with patients frequently having one of the two modules altered (mutual-exclusive mutation plot of the two modules in figure). In conclusion, elderly AML harbors a high frequency of molecular alterations in spliceosome components, epigenetic regulators and in DNA repair factors, the latter being associated with poor prognosis. The characterization of recurrent mutations may guide the development of new strategies to adapt treatment for older AML patients. In this regard, the molecular categorization of elderly AML into two groups (DNA repair or RNA processing deficient) underscores the distinct biology and the need for molecularly driven therapeutic approaches. Purpose This paper aims to expose the evolution in the use of the so-called reception tools and tourist information that are present at the time of consumption of a trip towards an interest in and a willingness to link local residents and tourists in a friendly, inclusive and conciliatory way. This is the case of territorial signage designed for pedestrians, a growing protagonist of the urban landscape of many cities, which has found in its formulation the appropriate response to unify the messages and criteria that are addressed to all audiences and people with all types of sensitivities. Design/methodology/approach Based on an extensive fieldwork study conducted in 2013 and 2017 in the 62 most populated cities of Catalonia, different variables related to the shape of the signage and the content presented in them were analysed. To this end, a specific pattern of ad-hoc observation and structured interviews were applied to determine the social transition of the content and approaches used in the signage. Findings While signage is initially considered to be a basic solution with purely informative content, poor in qualitative aspects and often neglected by those responsible for its management, over time it has emerged as a tool that serves to unify the interests of the citizens who share the same space for mutual interaction. It is characterised by providing open and transversal information for all citizens without focussing on or thematising tourism in an exclusive and segregated way, separating it from the rest of the aspects that make up the nature of the urban landscape. Originality/value This paper confirms that these tangible instruments of support for tourists, beyond seeking a harmonic fit in the urban planning of today's cities, are also complicit in seeking social cohesion in the present-day paradigm of the conflicts created by urban tourism.

Abstract PURPOSE Rhabdoid tumors (RTs) arise within (Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor-AT/RT) or outside the brain (extraCNS-RT-eCNS-RT) and are driven mainly by inactivation of the SWI/SNF complex subunit SMARCB1. A pathognomonic hallmark of RTs is heterogeneity characterized by multilineage differentiation of tumor cells including anomalous neuronal differentiation in a subset of eCNS-RT. The mechanisms that regulate heterogeneity in RTs are unknown. Because remodeling of the SWI/SNF complex regulates differentiation, we hypothesized that SWI/SNF-BAF and PBAF complex heterogeneity correlates with both multilineage differentiation and clinical outcome. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We performed an integrated analysis of SWI/SNF complex subunit alterations in the developing kidney and cerebellum (most common regions of origin for RT) in comparison to eCNS-RT (n=14) and AT/RT (n=25) tumors. RT samples were interrogated using immunohistochemistry, DNA methylation and gene expression analyses. RESULTS (A) The SWI/SNF-BAF paralogs ACTL6A/ACTL6B were expressed in a mutually exclusive manner in the developing cerebellum and kidney. In contrast, a subset of eCNS-RTs lost mutual exclusivity and co-expressed both subunits. These tumors showed aberrant DNA methylation of genes that regulate neuronal and renal development and demonstrated immunohistochemical evidence of neuronal differentiation. (B) Low expression of the PBAF subunit-PBRM1 identified a group of AT/RTs in younger children with better overall prognosis. PBRM1-low AT/RT and eCNS-RTs showed altered DNA methylation and gene expression in immune-related genes accompanied by increased CD8 cytotoxic T-cell infiltration. CONCLUSIONS Heterogeneity in SWI/SNF BAF (ACTL6A/ACTL6B) and PBAF (PBRM1) subunits correlates with histogenesis, contributes to the immune microenvironment and prognosis in RTs and may inform opportunities to develop immunotherapies.
