Baumann, Patricia. "Les résidences services pour personnes vivant seules : de nouvelles formes de voisinage". Lyon 2, 2002. http://theses.univ-lyon2.fr/documents/lyon2/2002/baumann_p.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe residential flats with services have the characteristics of gathering small housings (equiped and furnished), of including collective areas (laundry room, TV room, etc. ) and of greeting a type of special household: single household. Their recent appearance shows the break with the way accomodation of people living alone is traditionally considered, and which consists in gathering standard-aged individuals (old people's homes) or people from the same background (students'housings, young workers'hostels). Here, the domestic structure appears as the discriminating criterior and a "transversality" of situations is claimed instead. This research aims at understanding and analysing the effects which the aggregation of inhabitants - close regarding their domestic situations but diverse under other criteriors - infers on the sociability of the neighbourhood (mutual perceptions and relations). It shows that the two main categories of inhabitants (students and non-students) constitue a relational configuration of the type established/unconventionals (reference to Norbert Elias, Logiques de l'exclusion). Non-students are in an unfavorable position in power struggle which brings them into conflict with the students (they are "the unconventionals"). They are stigmatized. Their presence is imposed as weird and illegitimate. It leads us to take interest in the foundations of the status hierarchy, and of the symbolic power of students as well as in the way non-students internalyse, live, interpret and control the stigmatization process

Pełny tekst źródłaThis Phd thesis is about horticulture, relations to plants, human relations around plants, and conceptions of life and living things in Japan. It presents an ethnographic fieldwork conducted among two groups of cultivators in the Ōsaka metropolitan area (2013-2017): volunteers cultivating a wisteria (Wisteria floribunda) in the Fukushima district of Ōsaka, and professional producers growing plum, peach and cherry in the Higashino neighborhood in Itami. In order to monitor these emblematic plants to “bloom” (sakaseru), the cultivators practice traditional horticultural characterized by a fastidious shaping of each plant, and they skillfully display the flowers. However, upsetting events such as lack of bloom or the outbreak of a plant disease (specifically a plum virus) put into question a technical control of plants that was taken for granted. Cultivators are led to modify their practices, and also the way they of appreciate the plants. These actions and assessments lead to inferences, allowing to question the status of plants, and how they work. There are two main purposes in this research. On the one hand, an ethnography of Japanese horticulture, focusing on a description of local social life and the technical actions observed during fieldwork. On the other hand, drawing on an "anthropology of life" engaged with the concrete manipulations of living beings that are both organisms and artefacts, the aim is to grasp the conceptions of life and living things, may that be a flower festival or part of a phytosanitary plan

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study aims to understand the meaning given by two goups of individuals, between 20 and 30 years of age, living in Stockholm and in Paris, to their night-time sociability habits with friends. With the hypothesis that interaction which do not situate individuals in formal roles allow the testing of different expressions of social identity, and thus construct themselves progressively, we have studied the gathering of peers at night, in public and private spaces including comsumption of alcohol. Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis investigates the role of inhabitants and their garden in the management of ordinary biodiversity, based on three towns located within the Greater Paris. This core issue leads us to explore the inhabitants-gardeners' sensitivity towards the living world, to assess the connection between this sensitivity and gardening techniques and, more fundamentally, to consider the link between this sensitivity towards the living, gardening practices and the biodiversity that exists in domestic gardens. This study is based on a database mainly composed of a questionnaire survey (585), enriched by iconographic material (110 pictures taken by the respondents) and by 59 botanical surveys conducted by ecologists. Thus, we demonstrate that inhabitants develop a multidimensional connection with their garden in which nature, order and aesthetics play a central role. Within these plural connections, we identify as biophilic the respondents who justify their interest for the garden by a specific care for the living. Domestic gardens are thus the support to a particular connection to biodiversity distinguished by gardening techniques more considerate of the living. We implement an Index to gauge the state of the Potential Biodiversity in Gardens (IPBG). This index reveals that gardens, areas undertaken by inhabitants-gardeners, are also areas of biodiversity, furthermore when their owners are considered as biophilic. With the aim of improving biodiversity in private green areas, we propose to overstep the connection to nature advocated in several scientific work and by governmental policies, and to encourage a connection to the living and a new aesthetic of the garden

Pełny tekst źródłaPerforming Arts (PA) Medicine, meant as a "medicine for the art of living entertainment", is still not known and not well understood and framed and recognized, in Europe as well as in the other Continents. Starting from a discussion on the philosophical and epistemological meaning of this branch of medicine, we have arrived at a personal ethical and bioethical reading in order to understand its limits and strengths for doctors, rehab professionals, teachers of the arts of voice, music, dance and circus, philosophers and, obviously, artists. PA Medicine (whose name we also dealt about) is far from that medicine today called "complementary"/"not-Evidence Based", and is a branch of medical and philosophical and pedagogical knowledge useful to the artist's and art's physical, psychic and emotional health. PA Medicine is a Medicine not only for the artist but for the PA themselves which, at times, also need to be cured. We have deepened this last topic also starting from an historical and ethic study of the phenomenon of the “care and curing” of arts and of performers, from the origins to today

Pełny tekst źródłaThe aim of this qualitative study is to explore the experience of supporting persons with severe mental disorder their recovery in long-term psychiatric unit of the Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Québec. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine in-patient mental health providers and they answered to the Recovery attitude questionnaire (RAQ-7). Thematic analysis was used to describe the experience, completed with by analysis of RAQ-7 scores. Results: Three interconnected components of the experience are identified: hope, involvement and relationship with the person. Positive attitude toward recovery, vision of recovery as a personal journey and working with providers who believe in recovery positively influence the experience. In parallel, being confronted to in-patient with significant symptoms, a culture of intervention geared towards their stabilization and having past experiences of failure in interventions negatively influence the experience. Conclusions and implications: The experience of supporting persons with severe mental illnesses is influenced by various individual and environmental factors (organisational environment). Knowledge of these factors can promote a successful implementation of favorable modes of intervention in the recovery of users in residential and long-term psychiatric care environments. Keywords: recovery-focused mental health services, recovery, serious mental illness, in-patient mental health providers, long-term psychiatric unit.

Pełny tekst źródłaThe relations, as conceived of by the Masa, between the reproduction of sorghum and that of humans is the main of focus of this thesis. From 2009 to 2010, twenty-two months of ethnographic fieldwork was carried out in several villages of Far-North Cameroon, mainly in Nuldayna, in order to document the technical, cognitive, social and ritual processes by which farmers maintain and reproduce, both on a yearly basis and from generation to generation, a wide array of sorghum landraces. Sorghum is a keystone of the Masa material and social life. It is by far the main crop, the main staple, a widely used ritual ingredient and, through its transmission across generations, a symbol of social identity and of the patrilineage’s continuity. However, after a man’s death, his sorghum seeds become sterile. Their fertility may only be regained by triggering a ritual circuit involving the kinship relationships that had enabled the deceased to marry. The analysis of this ritual, as well as those related to funerals and inheritance, shows that the sorghum’s reproductive capabilities are dependent on those of its owner. While individuals’ procreative powers are held to be a necessary condition for perpetuating the patrilineage both materially and socially, these powers cannot be transmitted in the male line without involving the horizontal relations of affinity. Moreover, the systematic analyses of agricultural practices, of ethnobotanical knowledge regarding sorghum diversity and of seed exchange networks, reveals that affinity is also essential for the inter-annual reproduction and maintenance of sorghum, including those seeds that are proudly presented as ‘the seeds of our fathers.’ More generally, this work attempts to demonstrate that, using mixed qualitative and quantitative methods, the study of crops and of the indigenous conceptions related to their reproduction can provide important insights into the study of human societies

Pełny tekst źródłaBecause of migration, individuals and thier families are confronted to two major events. On one hand, they have to bear the fact of living for away from their homeland where representations and practices are actually experienced and transmitted from one generation to another. On the other hand, in their new country, they have to cope with other cultural patterns, which are different and sometimes opposite to their ownpatterns. To measure the impact of these two events on mothering in general, and on motherhood and mother-and-child interactions in particular, this study is based on the comparison of two groups (a total of 133 families) of Moroccan families. One of these groups lives in morocco while the other one lives in France. The comparison is about : - the amount of cultural representations in the mother-and-child relationships. - the evaluation of the true relationship in the same dyad. - the description of the interactions beetween mothers and babies in two different situations : during breast-feeding and while playing. Most of the mothers are primipara ones and the children's ages range from a few days to twelve months

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis examines the contempory situation of popular experimental theatre in lebanon, through the revealing theatrical modes of al-sindbad, of al-hakawati, and that of ziyad rahbani. In analysing the particular accomplishment of these three groups it is essential to consider a dramatic form, definable first of all as a renewal of links with the popular culture in the wider sense, with its traditions and its ways of life; and second as a quest to provide elements of a response to the problematic of the rule of the theatre and its pertinence in social life. In this respect, the al-hakawati genre of theatre is probably the most successful initiative at the level of adaptation of the theatre to popular language (the term language here being understood in its broad sense, including here the "gestus social" of b. Brecht). In spite of its specificity, this initiative can be related to others, both local and international, in the traditions of "theatre of the real", where the common objective is to go beyond the notion of catharsis in search of social and esthetic authenticity at the level of the relationship of the theatre with its public. The study provides a historical perspective on the different modes of dramatic presentation in the lebanese tradition. Particular emphasis is placed on the al-hakawati troup, which has tried to apply one of these modes to theatrical art. Complementary to this histori cal aspect, the approach of the study is based on an analysis of the work of al-hakawati. A parallel is drawn between this activity and other local and international initiatives which show comparable tendencies in same respects although nevertheless not necessarily addressing it the same manner the problematic of the relation between the theatre and its public

Pełny tekst źródłaThis book offers a theoretical and practical reading of online satirical and critical content, in the light of aesthetics and communication theories. We analyze the online content produced before, during and after Occupy Wall Street, September 2011, United States, and Gezi Resistance, June 2013, Turkey. In search of lost meaning, we analyze online artivist productions, such as memes published in Know Your Meme and Bobiler, satirical hoax news published on The Onion and Zaytung and finally two satirical and critical candidate campaigns, Reverend Billy, 2009 and Şafak Başgan, 2014. We discover both activist and artistic aspects of these projects and we aim to understand the new trends in Internet Aesthetics by connecting them to the Net Art projects of the 1990s, and by establishing links with debates around truth, humor and post-industrial society. We also observe the participative quality and the community functioning of these projects

Pełny tekst źródłaThis work focuses on the roof terrace, the courtyard, the street, the square and the abandoned site, seeing them as neighbourhood open spaces whose use is or can be shared. The thesis argues that these spaces can establish conditions of liveability that respect planetary limits and other forms of terrestrial life.Soil renaturation and greening, food gardening, DIY manufacturing and reuse, the so-called subsistence activities, potentially undertaken by inhabitants, activate neighbourhood open spaces. The spatialisation of these activities transforms these spaces into places of subsistence: the vegetable garden on the roof, the rain garden in the courtyard, the itinerant repair workshop in the street, or the orchard in the park.So how do places of subsistence contribute to the new conditions of liveability in the urban environment? And how can architects use neighbourhood open spaces to develop tools for incorporating these new conditions and qualities of liveability into the design process?Composing a conceptual framework and building reading tools.A variety of projects and sites representing places of subsistence are brought together to form the corpus. Drawings were used to sketch out the interactions produced and enabled by the places of subsistence. These representations, combined with a selective review of the state of the art, give rise to the concept of a regenerative self-subsistence system. This concept describes the capabilities of subsistence areas, by setting out the three complementary qualities it contains. Firstly, environmental quality, which contributes to decarbonisation, adaptation to heatwaves and floods, and the circularity of resources. Then there's the relational quality, which puts people back among and with other forms of life in the environment. And finally, cooperative quality, which recognises the collective ingenuity of inhabitants in the process of transforming and living in the area. These three qualities are then considered as levers that contribute to the emergence of new conditions of liveability.Producing planning tools based on a reading of places. The corpus, made up of examples of projects and study areas, is mobilised once again to create design tools. A reading grid, formulated on the basis of the three qualities of the system, uses the drawing tool to extract knowledge, by schematising, isolating and highlighting the qualities contained in the situations observed. This localised knowledge, through a process of abstraction made possible by re-drawing, has the capacity to produce generic knowledge: the design tools. These take the form of thematic repertoires or project principles.Projecting new conditions for living in San Lorenzo. The final stage consists of testing these tools in the Roman district of San-Lorenzo. A two-pronged approach is used to assess San Lorenzo's potential for transformation. It combines calculations of climatic performance with drawings to highlight the district's vulnerabilities and qualities. The tools are then used to guide the transformation of the neighbourhood's open spaces, offering new opportunities for inhabitants to come into contact with living plant life. Finally, the thesis highlights the knowledge production mechanisms used by the architect to read and project the qualities of the liveable. The permanent adjustment of these reading/design tools will enable him to respond appropriately to the challenges of his time

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study suggests a reading of the relationship between the living and the dead through the prism of documentation unique to Ancient Egypt, Letters to the Dead, which are revelatory of the mechanisms of this relationship. From the definition of the genre and comparison with other sources, two paradigms emerge. They are characterized by distinct rituals and a different treatment of the subject of judgement after death. While Letters to the Dead belong to the First Intermediate Period, the conclusions drawn from their study appear, due to different reasons, to apply to egyptian funerary religion at least until the end of New Kingdom. By deciphering the organisation of relationships between the living and the dead, this study seeks to shed light on topics such as fear of the dead and ancestor worship in Ancient Egypt, but also to understand the peculiarity of egyptian interaction with the dead

Pełny tekst źródłaOur starting point is the observation that the status of women in Arabia today is inferior or even degraded compared to that of men. This position of exclusion and infantilization is the reversal of an excessive male power exerted on women. This work consists in studying the evolution of women’s position in Arabia through time, in order to better understand its current form. Our chronological departure point is the Pre-Islamic period (6th century A. C. ), during which infanticide of little girls was a parental right, bearing no sanction or punishment. This infanticide was particularly violent, since it consisted in the father burying his daughter, who was considered a disgrace, alive. Keeping in mind a historical perspective, we call upon the contribution of psychoanalysis in an attempt to clarify the psychic processes through which fathers in this period were urged to commit infanticide. Bringing to front the theoretical concepts of narcissistic seduction, Oedipus complex and incest, we attempt to draw a clinical profile of these fathers. The analysis of this historical period also sheds light on the origins of the consideration of young girls as a disgrace and the reasons why paternal honor was affected by female offspring. The examination of masculine and feminine shame evokes the issue of guilt and their transmission. We then proceed to the Islamic period and its role in establishing the women’s position in Arabia. This period marks the end of girls’ infanticide but contributes, among others, to maintaining a culture of women’s reclusion. Through the concept of pathological mourning we uncover how the representation of the Pre-Islamic father remains a motor figure in the Arab-Muslim psyche. We perceive the confinement measures, the reclusion and the veiling of women ordered by Islamic law as a substitution of the burying of young girls encountered in the period preceding this religion. In what ways could the status of women in the Arabian past influence their future? What is the role of tradition in what a woman experiences in that place? These are the final questions which, through a psychoanalytical perspective, this work attempts to provide some answers

Pełny tekst źródłaIn Africa, malnutrition and malaria remain major causes of childhood mortality. To better understand the interaction between these two affections, we have analysed data collected during an intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) of malaria trial conducted on preschool children. Our findings suggest that advertising on malaria and the basic medical services offered during the trial may have improved the height status of the children. We also investigated the impact of malnutrition on susceptibility to malaria. Our results show that, on one hand, wasting was associated with a decreased risk of having a subsequent clinical malaria attack and on the other hand, that specific antibodies (IgG) levels were significantly lower in stunted children compared to well-nourished ones. Altogether, these findings highlight the importance of integrating children nutritional status when defining malaria control interventions, particularly in the development of a malaria vaccine
